hiya ava, happy wincest wednesday <3 -- what's your opinion on wincest + a normal!AU?

happiest of days to you!!! answering this ask from february (😬) before i have to rush to work-- i think the most compelling wincest in a normal au is the flavour where they live in poverty as kids, sharing a room and having little to no privacy until sam leaves for college, and then looking at them as adults reuniting with that shared, unspoken past that sam left behind while dean stayed and cared for john. maybe sam's been through a divorce or two, maybe dean has kids and a home and a wife he treats well because it's what john wanted for him before he passed. i find the idea of them initiating a relationship under those circumstances unlikely, but imagining a scenario where sam shows up for the first time in years because he heard that john had passed, and trying to pay for the funeral because he's grieving and he's guilty and he doesn't know what else to do, and coming up against a version of dean who didn't come to stanford to get him because he had no good excuse, who dreamt about it for years with no word from him, who genuinely resents sam for--

i think the idea of sam just... continuing to truck along in his normal life makes sense when there's no looming sense of responsibility that comes with monsters existing. i'm sure he would think about calling, think about visiting, but the bitterness would rise up like bile when he remembers the way they grew up, and, well, he's working 60+ hour weeks and he has that thing with his inlaws tomorrow night etc. etc. until he wakes up one day and it's dean's birthday and he's got a letter letting him know the date for his stanford classes ten year reunion.

that sam coming up against a dean whose dad didn't go missing, who never had the breakthroughs canon dean had after john sold his soul for him, after john laid sam's life in his hands as his parting gift... i want to see that.

When the school buses stopped routing to Aura's housing she had to start taking the city bus for the next 3 years with short walks to and from the bus stop to school to her house and sometimes that meant missing the bus every now and again. This scorching end of sprint enter of summer with sprinkles of severe wind blowing not only desert heat but desert sand. If you weren't wearing a pair of sunglasses you were going to be uncomfortable. She had missed the first end of school bus, she knew as soon as far as the football field behind the elementary attached to the high school parking lot soon. The wait usually kept her from completely looking like a vampire with her knowledge of good skin habits and a strict routine with the bonus of daily sunscreen and a good shade lighter of dream matte mousse makeup looks. But she could unfortunately admit she would sometimes omit her arms from the same treatment, giving her a little glow. It took 30 minutes for the next bus to come around, 10 for her to take long strides from the bus stop to her house; 15 is she took her time to greet her brothers playing outside in the middle of the suburb off a main road street and fuck knows for Aura to rational what she was seeing. Marie's eyes were rolled back into the back of her head, her loud agape and foamy drool built up and over her lip while her chest and shoulders convulsed and it felt like she was slammed by a train, her blood rushing and her heart jumping from her chest to her mouth to her stomach slowing time down. Aura rushed to the back of the house to the kitchen where they kept their wireless land line phone and rushed back to Maria, her heart felt like someone was gripping it so hard it was going to pop and flood her eye balls but that might have been the feeling of her eyes flooding with hot tears as she dialed 911. She wished she could say this wasn't something that happened before but it was scary how calm she felt in the moment despite her voice cracking in reply to the operator, "I think my mom is having an overdose, please send help." followed their address. She pushed Maria from giant spider on the couch saved from the 70's that was Momma's wedding gift from her inlaws to the 'Why the fuck do you do this you selfish dick of a mother.' she muttered out gasping from a sob as she tried to empty her mouth of anything that may make her choke. She could already year the sirens down the street now as she cleaned her off with a crumbled up paper towel, keeping her on her side.

It felt so quick, in three walked in, two helping the dead weight spider from the couch to the stretcher and one trying to give details of where they were going and a piece of paper repeating the same. Where the fuck was Momma? The car was gone from the driveway, she had no idea how long Maria was alone and out or what she was on this time. It felt fucking awful and Aura started going through a Rolodex of guilt and responsibility shame. Like this was somehow her fault or like as if she could have prevented Maria from using like DARE said but the truth was she was the child, Maria was the mom. When they were gone and the boys could chill out enough to state a full sentence with a mix of baby talk and newly acquired words her brothers gave her a minute to explain the situation and what they needed to do and to stay calm while they wait for Momma to come home. After, Aura called her beloved cousin from her father's side that was just her partner in crime those days. Effy, her 20 year old cousin just got her and all that pent up pain and angst Aura had to go through. That's when she finally broke down in sobs and whimpers, whisking away to her room to break down. "Okay babes take deep breaths and I'll be there in a literal minute." And it honestly felt like a minute before Effy was in her room, sitting on the edge of her futon bed. Giving Aura a secure hug, giving a safe space to release all that deep emotion and cries. It felt like thousands of utter cut punches to her upper gut, near panic attack level of emotion all out at once and Effy was there to help navigate through those feelings because she was just a 17-year-old girl trying to survive a situation she had no say or choice in. When Momma came back from a grocery store, after a little mid-day casino game room visit, Effy did the same for her while Aura freshened up from her day and got ready for the weekend night and switched from her school tote to her weekender tote that had all she needed to survive a night out. All Effy had to say was "Get ready and we'll go fuck around and get ice cream." This was the best part about being an angsty angry troubled teen was her obvious lead to the darkling fashion and moody vibes with a purple trimmed tripp skirt paired of Halloween fishnet tights and heeled booties with a matching tokio hotel shirt since she was in her Bill era, dark purple eye shadows and pop of color eyeliner, lashes that pop and snarled and two curly half pigtails. When she came out, she found Momma in the entrance of the mall house's kitchen speaking to a nurse at the hospital they took Maria to find out what they needed to do from there. Aura stood beside her Momma and rubbed her shoulder and spine area where she always got tense and out of place. When she was finally off the phone and finished writing the information down she turned to Aura, "You're dealing with this tonight while I watch the boys." Aura gave a nod and knew what all she had to do. Before the girls really went off on their adventure they would stop by a taco bell to pick up dinner for the family to make sure everyone ate. Despite what you may imagine they weren't too bad all things considered. Effy never actively put Aura in bad situations or hurt her, it was always honest fun on a guy's dime for being so cute and it was usually soothing to her senses and often lead to surprising experiences she wouldn't otherwise have if it wasn't for her being in Aura's life and that was invaluable and necessary for her and something she'd appreciate all her life.

You'd think with how long Hubs and I have been married I would know what to get my inlaws for yulemas. I do not.

1- I utterly despise his mother and I have been banned from getting her anymore ballerina hippo ornaments (sometimes I am not a nice person and to be fair they are cute as fuck).

2- his grandmother's idea of a small, cheap gift is more than what I spent for a semester of college.

3- it blows all ass that I have to get them something when I know Hubs and I won't get anything for each other because we just can't afford it. I only wanted to buy things for the people I love this year, so like us, Moose, and a friend. (Not that I don't love my other friends but when the whole family has adopted you). I made a really cute door sign for my mother and step dad that cost me time only. They are easy to please in that regard. For all their faults when I make them things they love them, its just the stuff I make for us and myself they don't tend to like but we have VASTLY different tastes. So when they do like one of those its like a gold medal in I Made This.

The nice thing about being married for over a decade is I can pull this:

Lex Luthor trying to be like a not terrible dad and be supportive but is definitely off the mark;

Tim and Kon get married, he is there like unsure how affectionate to be but is like, here's the original Luthor farm because idk he doesn't use it and they clearly have a place in Gotham but Connor loves Smallville so maybe they want a place there and mercy and several parenting books are like sentimental things are good though, this is a good idea. And it is tbf. Connor can still do farm chores at the Kent's and stuff but they have their own space and can like add to it. It becomes like less haunted by the terrible childhoods had there over a few years.

Timeskip, slightly

They've been married like over 3 1/2 years and Lex while getting better is still lacking some like emotional intelligence and awareness, genius doesn't mean smart in all ways. So he's always given gifts on theme to the classic wedding anniversary themes which at 4 years is fruit or flowers which is stumping him to plan. Because like sure he could gift them like enough trees to plant a sizeable orchard but that doesn't seem like it's hitting the mark and Bruce can definitely gift them that with like extra oomph from Dr.Isley (because obviously, the gift giving is still in a way a competition between inlaws) So he's looking over the files he has on both of them, and a parenting book, and as he flicks through the files there's like the closest thing to a baby photo Conor has, which is a small tube with a blob. But this sparks a train of thought that goes through several stations and none of them are common sense ville in Lex's head right. Fruit > Fruitful Loins > Children > Expertise in Kryptonian human blended clones > A gift only I could easily do for them > Average time in a marriage before having kids > current public opinion of the couple > increase in public standing for them and me by having kids > ?? > Wins all round tbh!

It's not necessarily hard for lex to get both their DNA, but it takes some time and then getting viable clones is another little bit so he's delayed on getting it to them. So they get an anniversary card ( hand delivered by mercy who's so happy to not be around "Soon to be a grandfather" Lex Luthor) and it says something along the lines of sorry your gift this year is slightly late, my plans were going perfectly so I blame their tardiness on the Kryptonian" So they call Clark to be like Hey, did you bust any of lexs more morally dubious plots recently because looking at this card it seems like you did, not mad though, just let us know. He's like no, I didn't, I'll like scope it out though, btw here's a weird Kryptonian house plant for the apartment that I got Ivys help to grow, happy anniversary. Tim is slightly worried because Clark comes back being like nope, it's all a-ok, totally fine. But like he can't do much because him and Connor have a Hawaiian holiday booked to just relax and be themselves, nice anniversary present from Bruce (While he brings several hundred trees to the farm and Ivy to plant them so a surprise orchard appears when they get back - let's see lex top this) they come back after a week and the next day...

Meanwhile Clark went to go talk to Lex to be like I hope you're not doing anything too weird because like co-parenting is weird but don't scar our son anymore right. Only Lex is like at yet another secret lab checking final development on the fraternal twins so when Clark finally tracks him down (mercy ignored him for a solid 5 hours because she had too much cover work to do and also no patience for this) he's standing in a classic evil pose watching a pair of growth chambers with babies in them. (He says it's just a power pose and it's kind of a default for him after years in board meetings) Clark is immediately like dude what the actual fuck! Why did you try and make more clones when your parenting at the moment is freaking out the son we do have?? "Aah, but these aren't our children, they are our grandchildren." Pauses for dramatic effect "Do you think Kon-El and Timothy will appreciate the gift of children the way their parents have not?" Clark bluescreens. Reboots. Thinks really hard at super speed. And then starts politely asking Lex questions to find out why, how, have you talked to anyone else about this plan at all, why again, etc. Lex's train of thought finally gets diverted for an emergency service in common sense ville. Communication is a thing, that he has not done. But at this point it will ruin the surprise and this way you can say you knew about the grandchildren before batman "The worlds greatest Dective" so please don't tell them.

A definitely not misty eyed Batman steps out of the shadows of this lab "We won't tell them, that's for you. Though I will make sure Alfred prepares the nursery" He will say he found it through detective work and careful following - he tracker tagged Clark and once it took more than three hours for him to find and talk to Lex, Bruce was prepped to Zeta wherever he found Lex and provide backup because he was also sus of the in-law. Clark goes home and tells Lois and she's like, normally parents just complain and guilt you into having kids like yours did, not decide it was taking too long so I'll make them for you and hand them over wrapped in a nice blanket. But this is Lex so she isn't as surprised and also excited because babies.

Batman and Superman have totally been acting weird this whole week which only like a dozen people noticed but one of them was the Flash so there's a JL betting pool on why. The only thing they can for sure tell is that it's good news. Tim and Conor get called for a Titans mission as soon as they get back from holiday and even though it's short it's tiring but like Bart fills them in afterwards about the Goss while they wash up before heading back to the Gotham penthouse and neither of them have any idea about why their dads are acting weird, it disturbs them.

Next morning they're having a slight lie in, or that was the plan if not for them hearing the intercom buzz and the faint sounds of crying babies while Lex asks politely to be let up. Tim doesn't actually hear this, being an insomniac who needs sleep and cuddles, but Connor does and him getting up to let Lex+ in disturbs Tim. They get dressed and make coffee while Luthor is in the elevator. Tim is drinking gods nectar when Connor moves to let Lex in who comes in with a pair of the fanciest nappy bags slung over his shoulder and a file folder. Mercy (the ever tired absolute boss in need of a payrise) is behind him pushing a double buggy which she pushes into the apartment and then leaves to let them have privacy while she gets the rest of the stuff. Tim starts drinking the coffee faster when he sees the buggy because he's not awake enough yet. Connor asks whos are the kids. Lex is like "Yours, I informed you that your gift for your anniversary would be slightly late. You'll need to pick names for them in the next three days and fill out the forms located in this file to register the birth. Don't worry we've got paper work to show they were created as part of an experimental surrogacy program for LexCorp so no one will know they're created with cloning technology" He's said this barefaced to try and not give away that he's nervous about their reactions. Tim does a spit take and Connor Bluescreens.

Thoughtful Gift

Here’s to another year of wholesome Dadcademia content!

Starting with Loud Dad.

You look up at the sound of the doorbell. From your spot on the couch, you can see a delivery driver walking back to the truck and your husband jumps up to grab the package off the porch before you can struggle to your feet. You’re six months into your pregnancy and still have a lot of time to grow, but already you’re unsteady with the new weight around your middle. “It’s cute watching you try to get up,” he laughs. You roll your eyes but still find yourself smiling as he sits back down next to you. “Oh hey, it’s from my parents.”

You eye the package with curiosity. You’ve only met your inlaws a few times; they retired to some small, blissfully quiet town on the other side of the country years ago. Sure you’ve talked on the phone and through video chat often enough, but it’d be nice to see them face to face again before the baby comes. “Well, open it. They always have great taste in gifts.” You eye the new stereo system they gave you for your wedding. It’s gorgeous, top quality, and came with a special set of custom noise cancelling headphones for you. You couldn’t love these people more.

Mic nods and tears at the outer layer of tape. “They said they were sending over a gift for the baby. Wonder if it’s a monitor or something.” He pulls out a plain box with a note in his mother’s neat handwriting.

This may come in handy, just in case. We can’t wait to come visit once our new grandbaby is born. All our love to both of you!

“Aww, that’s so sweet.” You cuddle into his side for a closer look. “Let’s see what it is.” He gets the box open and hands it over, and you reach into the tissue paper to grab…a thing. ”I don’t...what am I looking at?” You tilt your head in confusion and turn the item over in your hands. There’s a pacifier in the middle of it, that you recognize, but it’s attached to some kind of harness with several straps coming off of it. You hold it up to Hizashi, completely baffled. “What even is this?”

His face brightens and he gives a delighted little laugh. “Wow, I didn’t know they still made these!” He takes the weird, weird thing from you and holds it up. “I had one of these pacifiers when I was a baby,” he explains. “It’s for voice quirks. See, these straps are nice and padded.  You put ‘em around the baby’s head so they can’t spit it out, and it keeps the little kiddo quiet!”

You stare at him, horrified. “Oh my god,” you groan, shaking your head. “Honey, that’s a muzzle. They had to put a muzzle on you because of your quirk.”

Hizashi goes quiet and turns the muzzle-pacifier in his hands, and for a minute you’re worried that you’ve upset him. “Huh,” he finally says with a shrug. “That’s actually a really great way to handle it.” He holds it up for a better look. “Man, can you believe my head was small enough to fit in something like this?” He laughs, way more amused by this situation than you’d expect.

You stare at him, baffled. “You are way too chill about this.”

“Hey, it’s better than letting the little tyke scream their head off in public.” Yamada wraps an arm around your shoulders and guides you back against his side. “It’ll be fine, we’ll just avoid crowds until we get an idea of what quirk we’re working with.”

“No baby muzzle?”

“No baby muzzle,” he confirms and kisses your forehead. “I’m sure they make some kind of fancy silencer teething ring by now, or something like that.”

You nod, already pulling out your phone to look it up. “We’ll put it on the baby shower list.”

Hizashi grins. “I bet we can scare Aizawa into buying ten of them if we ask him to babysit.”

I only stopped it because my mom was theorizing that it may have been making my nightmares worse, because her dad had AWFUL nightmares on it. I don't know if it did or didn't foor me, honestly. Venus came from The Gourmet Rodent, a snake breeding (and F/T rat provider, as the name suggests) business from Florida. I highly recommend them. Their customer service was fantastic when I was worried about Venus not eating. They even checked up with me a few months following my emails to ensure she was doing well. Take THAT executive dysfunction. I finally, FINALLY took care of a bit of Holiday business. I have 3 sets of inlaws, and some grand in-laws, plus my parents. So my kids have 4 sets of grandparents (my parents, my mil and her husband, my fil, and his wife, and my husbands step mom who raised him, his dad is on his third marriage and it seems to be the one that’s sticking,) and 1 set of great grandparents who all like to give us mountains of toys the boys play with for a months, then are forgotten about. So I did a shit ton of research to find out the cost of a bunch of fun activities I know my boys like, things like karate, softball, soccer, and I’m trying to get littlest bug into therapy riding.  So I created a group message for all the grandparents, asking them to please get the bugs experiences this year, to collaborate, and to please keep any under the tree gifts small. I’ve been stressing so hard over this cause I don’t want to upset anyone, or presume, or anything, to the point that simply being assertive and asking for less toys this year feels like I’m rocking the boat, or asking too much? Who am I to tell them how to spend their money. But like, we only have 1 income, the bugs were all so upset they didn’t get to play, or participate in anything this year, cause registration is in January, and we just couldn’t afford to sign them up.  I really hope that all my inlaws, and my folks embrace this idea this year, It took me way to long to work up the nerve to even suggest it.

Need help shopping for teens

Hi, tis the season to struggle with shopping. Between my siblings and inlaws I have a grand total of 8 nieces and nephews which presents issue one; I gotta keep it cheap. I'm looking to spend between $15-$20 per each child.

Issue two kids are easy, so most of my nieces and nephews are taken care of. Teenagers are harder and thats where I need some ideas.

My niece is 16 years old. She's not very into fashion favoring comfort. She's very creative and involved in most of our school districts arts programs including the band and theater. She does have a car. I'm unsure if she's allowed to wear makeup.

My nephew is 13. He's into superheros and pokemon. I know he used to like leggos but I'm unsure if that's still age appropriate. He either talks your ear off or doesn't talk at all. He shifts interests frequently and these two things make it difficult to get a grasp on what he likes at a given point in time. In years past I got him something along the lines of what my son(12) would ask for as their interests normally align but nowadays my son wants only video games and an iPhone (🙄) well outside my current spending limit for my nephew. Nephew does not have a phone.
