Waiting on Our Miracle
Finished….hm….simply the thumbnail. Dunno if I’ll put it on YouTube. You know they be striking folks 😭
ANYWAYYYYY start to finish, this took me roughly 6.5 hours. About an hour per character, give or take a few minutes obviously. Initially I was only gonna do what was in the original animatic, but decided I wanted to at least a half body of every grandkid. Dunno why 😭
I’m actually pretty proud of did this though! I don’t render as often as I should (especially my ocs they need some love…) but for what it is, I think it’s not too bad.
Should I render more?? I mean I’d like to but I just dunno which aus lmaoooo plus it took me forever
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ALSO NOTE UH. Some of you may have seen the bug au drawings. Those are what I call “comic rendered”. They typically don’t have as much detail, specifically in the lighting and shading. These drawings are fully rendered.

The Vally of the lost
This is basically my idea for a massive crossover of a lot of @toaverse au’s
Many of the casitas in different universes are interconnected and have ways of sharing memories
In most universes the madrigals are a good and loving family
Unfortunately in others some members are cruel and abusive
So some of the casitas who are forced to watch their favorite Madrigals suffer because of an entitled village and so called family members plan prepare and bide their time
This all comes to a head when one of the casitas collapses
It rebuilds itself in a world where non of the madrigals survived the raid and the Encanto does not exist taking its favored madrigals with it
The other casitas then abandon their worlds merging with the first casita and taking their madrigals with them as well
It’s pure chaos and confusion as everyone tries to figure out what happened
In the shitty Pepa au most of the family lost their gifts cause casita took them and then gave them to the family members that deserved it
The other casitas like that idea and copy it
They eventually calm down and start talking about their respective worlds and what it was like
Basically like a giant bonding/group therapy session
They all have some trouble at the beginning with expecting people to act like their counterparts but they work through it
Found family but it’s better versions of your actual family
The village gets started when yellow butterflies start leading refugees of la violencia to the vally

Giftless Julieta AU
Here's another giftless AU!
Or basically Julie and Mira swap gifts!
Enjoy!
Alma didn't expect three magical doors to appear for her children, but here they were.
And not only that, the triplets also got gifts.
But while Pepa got the gift of controlling the weather with her emotions, and Bruno could see the future, Julieta's door vanished in front of her, and she didn't get a gift like her siblings...
And unlike her siblings who both got their own magical room, Julieta was send back to the nursery...
The girl cried all night, simply wanting to be special like mamá and siblings...
From that day on, Alma treated Julieta like a burden, ignoring her and pushing her aside for her siblings.
While Julieta was obviously the scapegoat, Bruno became one as well, as Alma forced him to give the town visions and everyone blaming him if the vision was negative. Pepa however, was Alma's golden child for being the most like her and providing perfect weather.
As a result, Pepa didn't bother interacting with her siblings, snapping at them whenever they're "in her way", and gossiping about them with the townspeople.
Obviously, Julieta and Bruno grew closer, as they understood each other when it came to being neglected and scapegoated for something they couldn't control.
As the years went on, Julieta continued to sleep in the nursery, even when she was an adult.
As a way to cope with her lack of a gift and being treated badly for it, Julieta started to cook meals for the family, wether it would be breakfast, lunch or dinner. While Bruno appreciated his sister's hard work, Alma didn't acknowledge her while Pepa rolled her eyes and scoffed.
It went on like that for a while, until , when she was 23 years old, Julieta met Agustín.
He was the only person aside from Bruno who was nice to her, appreciated her for what she did and who she was. Agustín saw her for her, not for her lack of a gift.
The two became friends, and quickly fell in love and started dating.
But Julieta was too ashamed to tell him that she still slept in the nursery at 23. She even told Gus that she had a normal looking room in Casita.
But when Julieta finally introduced her boyfriend to her mother, she didn't approve...
"He'll be an embarrassment to the family." Alma told Julieta after Agustín left. "Besides, I wouldn't be looking for a husband if I was you."
That comment saddened Julieta quite a bit, especially when her mother did approve of Pepa's relationship with Félix, but that didn't stop her from being with Agustín.
Their wedding was a quiet affair. Only, Alma, a begrudged Pepa, Bruno and Agustín's parents attended.
Pepa's wedding however, was grandiose and huge. The whole town attended, and it was held outside instead of the church. The only person who wasn't invited was Julieta, who was forced to stay in casita.
"I don't want any giftless Madrigals at my wedding." Pepa said at a dinner before her wedding, to which Alma agreed...
Unfortunately, Bruno made a joke that "it looked like rain", causing a hurricane. It ended up with Pepa and Alma screaming at him, the former even striking him with lightning before being send back to Casita while the rest continued the party.
It was afterwards that Agustín finally saw Julieta's "room", and he was horrified. His 27 year old wife was still sleeping in a nursery?! No! Just no!
Agustín had a huge argument with Alma about it, saying that Julieta deserved her own room in this house, but Alma just brushed it off, doing nothing.
In the end, Julieta often slept at her in-laws' house with her husband, and having to do cooking and chores at Casita when it was day...
But that ended when Agustín's brother and his wife moved back in with their parents, taking the spare room and forcing Julieta and Agustín to sleep in the nursery for a while until the spare room was free.
But then Julieta and Pepa both found out that they were each expecting their first child.
While Alma was happy for both of her daughters, she focused more on Pepa than Julie...
"It would be best if you don't have any children." Pepa remark to her older sister. "We don't want them to end up giftless like you."
That comment broke Julieta. In the end, Bruno heard it and called Pepa for her awful behavior.
But on the 7th of August 1928, Julieta and Agustín's baby girl was born, who they named Isabela. (In that time, they had the spare room at Gus's parents' house back).
Pepa and Félix's daughter, Dolores, was born about 3 weeks later, and Alma clearly paid more attention to her than to Isabela. Obviously because Alma thought that Pepa's children had more chance of getting a gift than Julieta's...
That would be proved wrong when the girl's ceremonies arrived. While Dolores got the gift of super hearing, Isabela got the gift of growing flowers and plants.
This utterly surprised Alma and Pepa. They didn't expect Julieta's child to get a gift.
So, after the ceremonies, Alma and especially Pepa tried to steer Isabela away from Julieta and Agustín, and tried to take over raising her, saying that they're so glad that she had a gift and that she didn't end up like her mother.
Isabela however, saw through her Tía and Abuela's bullcrap.
"Mami is awesome! She doesn't need a gift to be special!" Isabela told her Tía before going to her parents.
Julieta and Agustín were proud of Isabela for that, and the two considered leaving the Encanto in search for a better life.
But they couldn't. It was impossible to leave the Encanto, every house in the town was taken, and there wasn't enough room at Gus's parents' house.
"If you walk out this door and take Isabela away from us, you are dead to me!" Alma yelled at Julieta after Agustín threatened they'd leave.
But it was to no avail. They were stuck...
It was then that the first cracks appeared...

How do you think the giftless grandkids reacted to Antonio getting a gift?
On one hand I think they would feel like "Why not me?"
But on the other hand, I don't think they would care and would just be happy for him.
All of them would be a mix of both. At varying levels, sure. But all of them would be really happy for Antonio but also wanting it for themselves.
Before Antonio, it just hadn’t seen like the miracle was intended for anyone besides Alma’s immediate children. And that was fine. If the grandkids weren’t meant to have gifts, then there is nothing wrong with them. Antonio then getting a gift proved it was possible and subsequently the other grandkids were then pushed aside.

I Don’t Want A Miracle
Camilo watched as his family stood proudly around Antonio, all displaying their Gifts. He was furious that they didn’t wait for him, even when he called out to them. Bruno mustn't have heard him, and Antonio was having the time of his life, so he could understand them.
But for the rest ? No excuse. They wanted to exclude Camilo because he was “ungrateful” and “didn’t deserve to be in a picture with los Madrigals”.
They haven't grown up since his ceremony at all. Still stuck in time apparently.
Time slowed down, and the song began as he slowly walked to them with a mirthless smile.

I’m not upset, or even mad
I don’t regret, or feel sad.
I chose this path among the Madrigals
That doesn’t mean I am not special
Yet they don't seem to feel the same
I love them, there’s no shame

Moving all the mountains
Making cloth or flowers bloom
Not for me, I can stay in my room
Without aaaa-ny miracles.

I can’t heal injuries
Making visions or prophecies
I love to be seen as me, for all I do
I don’t want a miracle, I don’t need to

I am not all aloooone
I am not monotoooone…
I shine with all my colors
I’m an actor, a painter, a tailor

I can show my talents
If you give me the moment
So give it to me right now
Look at me now, look at me now, look at me noooow !

Seeing the future
Healing what is broken
I’m already pure
But all you see is a bad omen

I don’t want any magic
I have enough magic
Under my mask, I am enough
I don’t need you, any of you

I am me, can’t you just see that ?!
I am special when’ver I’m on my own
I don’t want that Miracle that
Everyone is depending ooooooonnnn !!!

Why would I want a miracle ?

in the spirit of the season (mutuals posting about their encanto aus) i wanted to post about mine bc i love them and am not active enough on here and wanna change that bc sharing my stuff is fun! so without further ado here they are lol
next gen au
pretty self explanatory. the story outlines what all the madrigals (mostly the grandkids) are up to in the years following the movie. mirabel gradually takes on more of a leadership role as time passes and eventually becomes the matriarch after alma's death and with enough time to prepare for the role. under her leadership, the madrigals are less shoehorned into roles and are encouraged to express themselves more freely, but being the leader still isn't easy and things still aren't perfect - while alma is still alive, mirabel often finds herself going to her for advice and repairing their bond further in the process. she also gets a gf (lorena), i've been playing around with the idea of her being an outsider that finds her way into the encanto but i would have to flesh that plot out a little more before i make it official. dolores eventually marries mariano, but only on her terms - she realizes quickly after the movie that though she loves mariano, she wants to take things slow, and mariano is more than happy to respect that. he puts in a lot of effort to understand how her gift works and help her out with it whenever he can, and for once, she feels like the one being heard. isabela, now free of her old role as the golden child, begins to let her more adventurous side out, exploring the outskirts and forests of the encanto to observe the plant life. she hones her gift and is able to bring even more exotic plant species to the encanto and starts up a very successful garden. she also ends up marrying two village women - lilli and rosa - and the three of them adopt a daughter, jacinda, together and spoil her rotten. lilli runs a flower shop and isa helps her out immensely with this. luisa finally learns to take it easy, prioritizing rest and relaxation after so many years of working hard to serve the community - though she definitely still loves to lift and hang out with the donkeys in her spare time bc old habits die hard. she probably takes over the care and raising of the donkeys as a whole bc they love her. she marries a village woman, inés, and they adopt two daughters, valentina and ciela. camilo is actually the first grandkid to settle down - he marries his childhood best friend and love of his life marco, and the two of them have six children together - amelia, imelda, brunito, ignacio, felipe, and sofia. they have their hands quite full with fatherhood but on top of that marco works as a teacher at the encanto's school while camilo continues to volunteer in the community, eventually becoming the drama director and soccer coach for the school. antonio grows up and starts his own animal sanctuary in the encanto that becomes wildly successful. he enlists dolores' help to scope out any injured or sick animals in the forests and nurses them back to health at the sanctuary, and he often accompanies isa on her trips to the forest to keep taxonomy records of the encanto's diverse wildlife. he never had much of an interest in romance - though plenty of people swoon over his kindness to the animals - but he is very fulfilled nonetheless and couldn't be happier helping take care of his animal friends. i have a more detailed timeline and bios for the kids that i'll be posting eventually but this is the main rundown of where the grandkids are at years down the line!
swap
essentially follows the plot of the movie but the sides of the family swap roles. instead of alma, pedro is the head of the family. pepa has the gift of healing food and felix is her clumsy husband, camilo is the golden child with the wonderful floral gift, dolores is the middle child with the gift of super strength, and antonio is the baby of his side of the family, cursed to a giftless existence (and being the main character of the storyline). on the other side of the family, julieta's emotions control the weather while agustin keeps her calm, luisa is the eldest with the ability to hear a pin drop from miles away, isabela is the mischievous shapeshifting middle child, and mirabel is the youngest member of the family and gains the ability to speak with animals. bruno is still bruno.  did i make this au entirely to put camilo in pretty pink outfits and make him a mean annoying gay? maybe.
pirates
the warm color family is a fearsome and renowned pirate crew descended from the notorious husband-wife pirate duo alma and pedro madrigal (the latter is dead and the former has long since retired), with pepa as the captain and felix as the first mate. pepa was estranged from her mother and siblings in her youth as she attempted to learn more about her parents' past, and she soon set out on her own to live the pirate life that alma tried so hard to keep her children out of. in the meantime, julieta and her family form their own rival crew and set sail in search of pepa to take their vengeance. bruno tries his best to be a good mama's boy and stay home, but he is soon taken hostage by the fearless captain hernando, a legendary pirate who has feuded with both madrigal sisters and their crews for a while now. he grows rather fond of his bargaining chip over time and bruno eventually becomes the captain's lover and first mate. when the sisters finally put aside their squabbles and unite to save their brother from their enemy's clutches, it's a very awkward family reunion. also everyone has their gifts and uses them to help their crew in one way or another. eventually when the two sides of the family unite, the grandkids take up a ship of their own with mirabel as the new captain.
roommates
marco and camilo are college roommates with luca and alberto. that's literally it no linear plot just vibes. luca is a first year astronomy student, alberto is a second year student and undeclared, marco and camilo are third years and marco is majoring in education while being on the soccer team and camilo is majoring in theatre (🤢). alberto and camilo despise each other but also camilo is lowkey crushing. camilo and marco are already dating and alberto and luca are also definitely together but heavily in denial about it. they fight over dishes being left in the sink and decorate their dorm all cute
the fall
wrote a ten chapter fic about this one so read that if you wanna know what it entails but tl;dr au where the family never recovers after the fall of casita and they go their separate ways, with dolores camilo and isa fully moving out, their whereabouts unknown - until, ten years later, mirabel takes it upon herself to track them down, reunite the family once and for all, and save the miracle for real this time. will she succeed? what have the runaways all been up to over these past ten years? read it and find out i'm not telling you! also this fic/au is quite old compared to the others so no marco 😔 fly high king
mamma mia
the silliest dumbest most self indulgent au ever. camilo centric of course. the storyline is literally just mamma mia but with camilo. he has twin daughters and one of them (ima) is getting married and wants to invite her other biological father to the wedding - the only problem is she doesn't know who that is, and if camilo's old diary describing all his old hookups in detail is to be believed,  there's three possibilities - marco osma, dante velazquez, and nicolas sorelli (the latter two are ocs, i'll probably post their bios at some point lol also nicolas is trans so he's definitely not the other dad but he's stealth so he's just going along for the ride). she invites all three of them to her wedding and they reunite with camilo for the first time in twenty years. drama ensues. camilo marries marco at the end regardless of if he's the dad or not (but he probably is - they never find out for sure). isa is tanya (so lilli is pepper ofc) and mirabel is rosie (except she doesn't end up with one of the dads at the end bc she actually respects herself). ima's fiancées identity is yet to be determined bc i don't have a partner oc for her but i do know she's a lesbian so. gay greek weddings! camilo in overalls! love wins!
runaway camilo
this one is a rewrite of the canon plot to a degree but not really enough to be considered a full on au. plays with the scrapped concept of camilo looking completely different after the fall of casita that didn't make it into the final movie, which is like one of my favorite concepts ever especially because of how easily it plays into trans camilo. in this rewrite, camilo has basically used his gift to masculinize himself perpetually since his ceremony, which all but cures his dysphoria - that is, until casita falls, he loses the gift he had become dependent on, and it all blows up in his face. he's unrecognizable when the dust clears, and rather than be seen in such a state, he flees the scene and goes missing just around the same time as mirabel. the family is split as pepa and felix go looking for their son while the cool color family goes looking for mirabel, and both are found within a few days - camilo in the depths of the forest, skin scraped and clothes ragged from running into the forest with reckless abandon, practically digging his own grave and ready to give up for good. when he's found, it takes a LONG time for him to allow anyone to see him, much less recover from the trauma. the rewrite basically involves these events and the aftermath. luckily camilo does get his gift back when casita is rebuilt but the scars are forever and he probably still has nightmares about losing his gift well into adulthood and has to learn to become comfortable going without his gift for short bouts of time in order to get more comfortable lest the worst case scenario happens again! more or less a transmilo angst fest add-on to the main plot of the movie. mimi needs a hug 💔

Beauty and the beast au tidbits @gamerbearmira
*Antonio is basically the chip of the household. As the baby of the family, almost all of the members have their ways of entertaining him.
Camilo and Bruno tell him stories and act them out with Bruno's rats. Felix also helps by doing shadow puppets. He acts as a stage light.
Julieta makes him treats and teaches him how to make some. Isabela has been keeping them alive for the ones who are still capable of eating by learning to grow crops instead of just flowers. She lets him help harvest them.
Luisa has tea parties with him and Pepa tries to do cloud watching with him.
Agustin taught him how to play piano and Dolores tells him about animals in the jungle.
Also because of the curse, some of the gifts have been limited. Dolores can only hear loud things at night, Isabela can only grow on Casita's property
Also on the 6th of the month they're completely giftless

Decay AU | Asking for a Change
Tumblr media
Mirabel did her best to ignore the looks she was receiving as she wandered through Encanto’s streets, a flush on her cheeks enough she felt embarrassed about the attention. The wrong type of attention for certain and she wished for once she had a gift of invisibility to avoid the pitying look and the whispers she could hear.
Her sister’s name on their lips, no doubt as well.
Another thing Mirabel didn’t want to be known for among being a Giftless Madrigal was… a victim of assault—or attempted murder (depending on who saw it). Every part of her still itched for the distance from Casita but… she certainly didn’t want to be in town. It made her pity her eldest Hermana a little more…but she had to make this right. Her sister still had to come out at some point than hide away forever. That wasn’t a life she wanted for her, even with what she did.
Her eyes scanned the crowds a little though she idly watched Dolores and Luisa talking to Mariano by his front door though her eyes found the three she was looking for by the church steps, playing together with their wooden toys and a leather ball.
“Mirabel!” Cecilia lit up happily, putting down her wooden cup and ball onto the nearest wall. Alejandra and Juancho. “You’re back!”
Mirabel composed her expression into a tight smile at the three. “Is Antonio with you guy?”
“No, his Mami took him away earlier.” Alejandra shrugged though remained light and oblivious to the issues they had a hand in spreading.
“Good, because I would like to talk to you and this isn’t for his ears.” Mirabel watched as the smiles died a little in confusion. “ and given what you three started, I don’t partially want him to be your friend?” Mirabel squashed the little rise of guilt but she had to protect her family. Isabela and Antonio.
“What we started?” Juancho frowned, taking a sip of his coffee. “We didn’t do anything?”
Mirabel sighed, if a little bit dramatically into the more disappointing side. “But you did, at least you two did,” her attention to the young girls. “I am…so disappointed in you and the little plan you concocted to trick my little cousin into telling you what happened to me.”
“But… but it wasn’t that bad!” Alejandra swallowed looking a little nervous. “We just wanted to know—“
“I don’t care what you wanted to know. It wasn’t about you. What happened was between me and my family, not you two, and I didn’t want this to spread around… it’s hurting my family. It’s not okay.”
“but…but what she did—“
“—was none of your business, Cecilia.” Mirabel gave her a stern look, trying to ignore how the girl’s eyes welled up. “You told your parents and they talk to other people and they talk… and that story spreads but it also changes. By now, people will now assume that my sister is a psycho waiting to kill… when all she did was essentially throw a tantrum that I happened to be in the way of.” To put it as basic as possible for these kids to understand. “She didn’t mean to hurt me… but like the adults in our lives, she is being appropriately punished by them for that. By my parents and our Abuela.”
“I’m sorry.” Cecilia's lip quivered.
“My point, you three. Our family is handling Isabela. You three need to learn from what I’m saying that… tricking someone for family secrets is bad. Gossiping or spreading that secret is also bad. I don’t want you to be friends with Antonio if you continue to do that… and I certainly don’t want to be friends with people like that as well.”
“No! I’m sorry! Please stay our friend!” Alejandra cried.
Mirabel swallowed thickly, even as she dove and hugged her legs. Patting her head softly, she tugged the girl’s arms from around her. She’d give the three a day to see how they’d cope nothing too harsh but she hoped they’d learn. Abuela would deal with the angry parents later if it came down to it.
“Adios.”
 -
Mirabel didn’t have to go far really, straight to her mother’s stall where her mother was trying to feed the injured line but two other women were trying to pull her mother into a conversation. With the grip, her mother had on her bowl of Arepa’s she was clearly growing frustrated and trying to focus on her patients.
“Excuse me, you’re distracting my mother. She needs to focus to heal effectively.” Mirabel interrupted the woman, all three heads turned though Mirabel could see some relief on her mother’s face.
“Oh, Mirabel.” The first woman spoke, “I hope you’re doing well, I’m so sorry to hear about what happened…”
“Okay.” Mirabel bluntly answered, to not expand on the opening they were trying to use. “Now, can you please leave my mother alone? As you can see, she had a long line of people to treat and you’re distracting her from her job…”
“Oh, we weren’t going to take too much time.”
“Oh, good you’re done then. Adios.” Mirabel gave the two a firm look, waving them off, despite the offending looks and neither of them moved.
“Now see here—“
“Is there a problem here?” Luisa’s shadow cut through the second woman efficiently before the mass of her sister stood behind the two. Luisa didn’t stand to be intimidating, arms by her sides with a piece of fabric-covered furniture tucked under one arm but it was enough for the women to walk away hastily with hushed voices.
Luisa blinked after them in confusion
“Thank you, Mija” Julieta smiled but it was still tight. “Both of you.”
Mirabel smiled softly though her eyes fell onto her mother’s next patient; a long cut across the back of his palm; it had stopped bleeding and while the blood on the handkerchief made her queasy it was a fairly shallow cut. It was gone by the time man swallowed his bite and went on his way with nothing short of a pleased nod.
“Ma,” Mirabel frowned, though the next guy’s injuries were reasonable with a broken arm, Mirabel realized that…most of these people barely needed to be magically healed. Most of this was…superficial, she hadn’t really noticed and the people who really needed to be helped had to wait in line. “Can we talk later?”
Julieta looked at her and nodded without any hesitation. “Of course.”
“Señor,” Mirabel directed her attention next to the man, letting him be healed swiftly, “how’d you break your arm?”
The man looked a little surprised at being addressed before he flexed his newly repaired arm. “I was assisting in building one of the new houses downtown, and I just slipped.”
Mirabel nodded softly, “Señor, why don’t you purchase some rope and appropriate security for the building, it’ll save you a nasty fall. A broken arm might be the best-case scenario and… I’d hate for you to land on a passer-by.”
“Err… Okay?” The man remained uncertain but took his leave back to his duties.
Her mother raised an eyebrow but there was an uplift to her lips nonetheless. It gave her a great sense of relief to see that.
“I’m going to find Abuela.” Mirabel decided, quickly giving her mother a hug and getting a peck on the cheek as she left. Luisa was gone when she turned, the view of the back of her heading back towards Casita so Mirabel didn’t think much on that as she headed off before Dolores stepped into her line of view with a direction gesture down a near alley.
So Mirabel complied. A new mission but to succeed, she needed Abuela’s help… if she could convince her. Despite the time Mami had off in helping her after the incident and the change of schedule there needed to be a better way for this and one that wasn’t unreasonable.
“Abuela?” Mirabel called, her eyes searching through the few people, again ignoring the looks and whispers and finally the flash of magenta that she saw her, helping move bricks with fellow townspeople but she didn’t look overly thrilled either.
“Abuela?” Mirabel hung back, flushing at the draw of attention though Abuela’s head turned.
Mirabel.” Abuela’s place in helping was replaced as she moved from the line, “is everything okay?”
“Can we talk? Privately.” She added. With a firm nod, Abuela led the way through town until they got somewhere quiet.
“Do we need to go to Casita?” Abuela asked, slowing down.
“No, this is…okay.” Mirabel spared a look about “nothing too personal for me but… I think it might be important.” She added that she suddenly realized that… this was the first time ever she had ever pulled Abuela from her work without it being an emergency. It made her flush with nervousness, her hands sweating a little.
“What is it?”
“Well… Mami’s being interrupted by people trying to get gossip from her. I know it’s... early days and it’s the topic of the town but it took Luisa standing there to get the unwanted people to carry on. It…might affect her work. It is stressing her out.”
Abuela’s lips pursed, “Is that all?” she didn’t sound displeased but…stern.
“I talked to the three kids earlier who….helped spread the gossip from…Camilo” She almost said ‘tricked Antonio’ but held back last second. “We might get some angry parents but… I just told them that it wasn’t their news to spread, it wasn’t their business, and that it wasn’t okay, and… that getting Camilo to tell them was wrong. Nothing…unreasonable, Abuela but I just…wanted them to learn. I plan to talk to them tomorrow to soften the edges.”
Abuela inhaled deeply, “Camilo told the kids… makes sense.”
“He… he was probably worn down as well, children can be exhausting. Antonio was very needy when he was put into the usury with me” Mirabel chuckled dryly, her comment on her younger primo was with fondness. She didn’t regret the time when he moved in; he was adorable and a loveable baby and toddler but it was tiring; she could only imagine how Tia Pepa and Tio Felix helped when they were at his beck and call in his first few days of life.
“Also, Abuela does this town have any more doctors? Aside from Mama?”
The change of topic made Abuela’s frown deepen, “Si, the Lopez family further downtown.”
Mirabel nodded, “great… I had an idea that… could one of the doctors be there to take care of those with superficial injuries while Mami handles the major ones?”
“Your mother can handle them both.”
“I know she can but…” Mirabel hesitated, “there are people waiting in line with small cuts and bruises and people that have broken bones and possibly internal injuries waiting after them… I know it’s a small thing and something Mami can plow through quickly but… surely we need to be…efficient with the family gifts, right?”
Abuela’s head tilted if a fraction in consideration. “What are you suggesting?”
“We have the doctor handle cuts and bruises, something that’s otherwise not much of a handicap of the day-to-day business. Wounds can heal on their own and it means that there’ll always be doctors available when Mami isn’t about or is needed elsewhere…” like when she had been recalled to Casita. The Lopez Family must have dealt with those issues. “Mami can heal the worst of the injuries, broken bones, births, ruptured tensions... that sort of thing. Plus, with people going to the doctor, they might be more careful.”
“Careful?”
“One guy broke his arm falling off the building he was working on because he didn’t have any means of safety. I’m sure the majority of the injuries can be prevented but because mami’s always there; they take the injuries and the quick fix and…go back to do it all over again.” she rolled her eyes as she spoke. “I know it’s a lot to ask but I just…want to make things better and with a little less stress on Mami’s plate.” She fidgeted with her shirt nervously.
The hand on her shoulder made her flinch in surprise but didn’t pull back though there was a slight hesitation on her Abuela’s touch at her response.
“I will think about it, Mirabel.”
“That’s all I’m asking for, Abuela.”
 -
Today had been one of the few days, Isabela happily threw herself into her chores, taking her time with them to keep her hands busy and to not let her mind wander too far from her task. Anything to keep her mind from wandering to the fact she was now public enemy number one outside her own home.
It was a mercy and a relief that her father had talked her mother out of dragging her into town for the day so it gave her more reason to do her chores without complaint. Unfortunately, she was left a little spare given that the workload was halved with Camilo for later.
Ultimately, Isabela found herself back in her room, but to keep her hands busy, she focused on her gardening tool and what she had brought the previous day. Filling a few with soil halfway though she was disturbed as she was deciding which seeds to pot by a knock at the door.
“It’s open” She called, setting down the silk bags and wiping her hands down the front of her blue skirt.
She half expected her parents or Abuela though she was surprised to see Luisa standing awkwardly in the doorway with a long, covered object beside her.
“Luisa?” She stepped away from her desk. “What’s that?”
Luisa tugged the long thing in though she wavered a little as she realized she was walking straight onto a bridge across the large pond; leaving little chance to set it down without coming in any closer. Luisa looked a little more distracted by the pond, carefully walking across it. Isabela idly realized this was probably the first time Luisa had ever seen the new changes to her room.
“This is…new?” Luisa eyed the pond a little more. “Piranhas?” she muttered, more to herself.
“What’s that?” Isabela asked again.
Luisa eyes the place a little more though set the object down beside the now broken up white flagstone pathway that led towards the bridge and door that had once been whole when she had first remade her room. Isabela’s eyes flickered between Luisa and the object before Luisa’s attention returned.
“Er.. Dolores asked me to bring this down from Mariano’s place to you since he probably had an old shelf and you said you needed one.” Luisa shrugged, “She told me to keep it wrapped so…. I did.” She looked around the room, “Want me to…put it somewhere?”
Isabela frowned but there felt like there was a bit missing but Luisa clearly didn’t know herself.. but the girl looked a little more anxious to leave more than anything else.
“No, but thank you.”
Luisa nodded but turned and strode quickly from her room before Isabela let out a soft sigh and tugged away the tight fastenings and her eyes widened at the flash of blue before the familiar, beautiful six tire bookshelf came into view with all its weaved and carved beauty.
“Oh…” her breath caught, her hand coming to touch along a shallow leaf pattern up its side but Isabela blinked as she noticed an envelope wedged into its side weave. Curiously, Isabela tugged it free but to her surprise, rugged hand-writing across the front:
Isabela.
She didn’t recognize the writing but with the shelf, that was the signature alone. Why did Mateo write to her? Did Marian buy this shelf on her behalf? Of course, Isabela would pay him back if he had…
To Isabela,
I hope that you’re feeling much better today than yesterday and I am so very sorry for my family’s part of that obnoxious behavior you were unfortunate to be at the front of. I am…very embarrassed and I hope to make it up to you.
The shelf you were interested in, I hope you can accept as a token of an apology. I would have brought it up myself personally but… my family is very difficult. They would be…against me being so close to Casita if they thought for a moment I was up there to see you. I didn’t want them to ruin the work I put into the shelf either if they knew it was coming to you so I asked Mariano to be the middle guy. I hope this is acceptable? He seemed very open to the idea.
If you’ve got any more requests for furniture or other goods that require my services, I have a box you can drop in a note. I must ask that you use a code name for that, as there could be a chance my sister or mother finds it.
Again, apologies on yesterday,
Mateo Marquez.
Isabela smiled softly, a little bubble of hope rising.
It was…a small thing but…to know that someone was more open-minded… that didn’t seem to hold the gossip up as truth… it felt wonderful. And an apology as well? She felt a surge of warmth, her eyes watering but she knew she had to follow up with something. She… could tell he was trying to be professional but… an apology gift? Maybe a little less professional and more personal. Still, she wasn’t going to complain.
It felt wonderful.
Was there a chance she could…have a friend? Not just the ones she used to have in town (unlikely they’d remain friends with her now—they were the gossip type). She could make friends with a guy, right?
‘No boys’ that rule came to mind, but… this was just an apology gift. Abuela wouldn’t read into this, would she? Isabela frowned but she could easily see Abuela would immediately disapprove at the notion; she’d jump to the assumption of her trying to find a new boyfriend, not a new friend.
Maybe… it’d be best to keep this quiet? Maybe she could talk to Dolores and Mariano for a little help? Mariano wasn’t her concern as much as Dolores was but nothing would get past Dolores if either one make it known what they were doing if she did want a new friend. Maybe she could convince her to stay quiet?
Isabela eyed the door before she used her plants to lift and pull the shelf along her room, at least get it settled and filled before she could come up with an idea.

Giftless Pepa AU
Another giftless AU!
Enjoy!
Alma didn't expect her three children to have glowing golden doors, let alone magical gifts. But here they were.
While Julieta got the gift of healing with her food, and Bruno could see the future, Pepa didn't get a gift or a door...
So, she had to stay in the nursery...
As the triplets grew up, Pepa grew jealous of her gifted siblings. She often lashed out at Bruno, insulting him and putting him down to hide how miserable she felt.
Pepa realized her behavior, and stopped bullying her brother when she was 12, but her jealousy didn't.
But things got better when, a week after the triplets' 26th birthday, Pepa met Félix, a boy who liked her for her, and didn't see her as the giftless Madrigal.
The two quickly fell in love, and married a year later.
Sure, they had to stay in the nursery, but the couple was happy.
And a year later, both Julieta and Pepa found out they were pregnant.
The family couldn't be happier.
And 8 months later, Isabela and Dolores were born.
Since they stayed in the nursery, Pepa and Félix often looked after the girls.
And when Isa and Dolores were 5, their ceremonies arrived.
Admittedly, Pepa didn't want Dolores to get a gift. She knew it was petty to feel that, but she couldn't help it...
But Dolores did get a gift; super hearing.
At first, a wave of jealousy hit Pepa, until she saw Dolores' huge room, and she got an idea.
"Can Mamí and Papí sleep in your room too?" Pepa asked her 5 year old daughter. It wasn't malicious, that's why she asked, but Pepa and Félix didn't want to sleep in the nursery forever, and there was more than enough space in Dolores' new room. Besides, that way, they could still watch their daughter. Alma even agreed to the idea.
Luckily for Pepa, Dolores agreed.
So, Pepa and Félix moved into Dolores' room.
It went okay at first, until the yellow couple started to forget about their daughter's gift.
They talked pretty loud, which bothered Dolores quite a lot.
As the years passed, it didn't change. Pepa and Félix stayed in Dolores' room despite the girl being bothered by them.
While Pepa and Félix thought that their daughter was still okay with it, Dolores disagreed...
She felt like it wasn't her room anymore, that she didn't have a space for herself. Dolores even strongly considered moving into Isa's room if that was allowed. At least than, she was sharing a room with one of her prima.
And if she was honest, Dolores resented her parents for it, she resented them for years, especially after her brothers were born and got gifts and rooms for themselves...
And Pepa and Félix? They thought their daughter was still okay with it. It wasn't intentional or out of malice, but they didn't ever ask her about it, they just assumed it.

For the giftless grandkids (minus Antonio) au-
Luisa works as a construction worker? (Or something that has to do with building things.)
Isabela is a botanist and/or owns a flower/paint shop. It’s up to you.
Dolores could possibly be a librarian. It’s simple, quiet, and doesn’t require much work. Unless you think she would be fit for something else.
Mirabel is learning how to be an embellisher. (reference to your HC).
Camilo is a theater kid, always will be. Probably learning how to be an actor and make costumes and such.
Camilo used to drag Mira into helping him finish up detailing his costumes and outfits. Or just ask her about what she would put here or there and do it himself instead. After a while he bothered her less and figured things out himself but they still hang out.
(And sorry if this doesn’t align with your perception of Camilo but I HC that he likes making clothes. Especially outfits for his family and costumes for his plays. Yes, he’s lazy. He will give up if a project it’s a bit much too much. But if buddy can chase kids around all day in canon I do think he can have energy to make clothes in an au)
I’m not entirely sure what to do for angst. Do you think Alma would still pressure Isa into being perfect/marrying mariano?
I’m assuming we’re dropping the royalty idea then? Because obviously none of them would be working in that case. And I’m going to assume we’re in the canon setting as well for this.
Completely agree!
Luisa would definitely work in construction. She’s a huge construction nerd in canon, so getting to do that right off the bat? Amazing! She probably still helps out a lot around town, especially without a gift, I can imagine she still is a bit of a workaholic.
Mirabel, once old enough, would definitely be hired by a local seamstress as an embellisher. She wouldn’t be getting any of the credit, but I think she would rather it that way. She wouldn’t want to be swarmed by people or anything. Probably unintentionally lets herself be treated unfairly by her boss subsequently.
The other three? Not so much. People forget that this is a small, rural town, that hasn’t modernised beyond the 1890s:
Flower shops weren’t a thing in such areas yet. (Flower shops originated in 1875 and only got popular in later years). There may be a small market stand or two for bouquets in Encanto, but that would be about it. Most people would just pick flowers or grow their own in their gardens. Besides Isa would rather work with more interesting plants than flowers anyways
Though libraries have been around for thousands of years, the chances of Encanto having one are very slim. There would just be bookshops. And it would be very different from what we know in the present day. Bookshops were fairly small and just ran by the owner, there wasn’t a need for more employees
Encanto probably has a small, local theatre (that is probably used for other things in the “off season”), but it wouldn’t be active so frequently. Jobs would be few and far between, as it would only be used every so often. Costume designers wouldn’t really a thing as there would be much budget for it. Costumes and props were just collected from people’s own belongings, things rarely would have been specifically made
If Isabela were to have a vaguely nature related job, she’d most likely work as a fieldworker on another family’s farm. That would be the best source of pay and most in demand job. If we don’t force her into a nature related job at all, I could see her being a dance teacher for children. (As dance was a lot more common practice back then). She wouldn’t overly enjoy it the same way Luisa and Mira would enjoy theirs because teaching children isn’t something I think Isa cares about, but dance is something within her skill set.
Considering how musical she is, it is fair to say that Dolores would definitely pursue a music related career. Either joining a local band/orchestra or being part of a choir or playing the church organ, etc. There would be a lot of option. I can imagine that she takes one of the aforementioned jobs, but secretly would rather be out and composing her own music than doing this. Not that she dislikes it per se, but she would want to make something herself.
Camilo would probably still be an actor, but definitely would need a second job to keep himself going. Looking at his skill set and interests, working with children is something he’d really enjoy. It’s already canon. He probably still does a lot of babysitting; people are always going to have children, so he’d always be needed. He is the Mary Poppins of Encanto, if you will.
In question to Abuela marrying them off? I think she still would - more children may equal more gifts. But I don’t think she’d be as set on making it happen right now. I’m sure she’d be convinced to wait a few years before trying to marry Isabela (and later the others) off. Antonio would be the only one she’d want to make a truly spectacular marriage.

I love your giftless sisters au, and I have my own little ideas for it if you don't mind. I like to believe the miracle saw how overworked Julieta was and decided her first daughter wouldn't get a gift, hoping it would show Alma the pressure she put on her, obviously it didn't work so the miracle tried once again to show she was overworked by not giving her second child a gift either, that didn't work either, so the miracle stepped back to think of another strategy, it saw how now there was even MORE pressure on not just Julieta, but Pepa and her children as well, and after seeing how the pressure increased on Camilo after he got his gift, the miracle made a decision, NONE of the children would get gifts from now on, I know it's implied that Antonio will get his gift, but I love the idea that the miracle sees how the gifts are causing so much stress and the giftless sisters are happier then their cousins, so the miracle decides there will be no more gifts given until Alma lays off the pressure, I also like the idea that when Antonio doesn't get a gift and Alma inevitably starts panicking, pointing fingers and overworking everyone even more, the gifted Madrigals gradually start losing their gifts, not like the house is breaking and the miracle is dying like in canon, but the miracle has finally had enough of Alma's bs and realizes it will need to take extreme measures to make her see what she's doing to her family, I really like the idea of the miracle consciously deciding to withhold and take away gifts instead of the magic getting weaker, once all issues are resolved the gifted Madrigals will get their gifts back, but I'm not sure if the sisters or Antonio should get gifts too, I like the idea of one or two people (possibly Bruno because we all know he'd be happier without his gift) remaining giftless and the Madrigal family continuing to have a few giftless members (although without the traumatic door fading, they would still get rooms) through the future generations as a reminder not to overwork the family and that their gifts do not define them as people, although the sisters all getting gifts as a reward for their perseverance and helping the family would also make sense, but I do like to believe at the end of the day if they don't get gifts they at least get magic rooms. I'm not sure if that's how you want the au to go, it's your au and you can do what you want with it, but I think it would be a cool way for the au to go
ooh, these are great ideas! I'll probably use some of them.
