Payroll Processing Challenges in the Manufacturing Industry – Exela HR Solutions
Tumblr media
Few industries of the economy play as paramount a role in creating new valuable job opportunities as the manufacturing sector, and fewer even can successfully embody the rapidly evolving workplace following the pandemic. Yet, the manufacturing industry was one of the few sectors that performed an expert pivot and managed to, at times, even profitably, hold the fort.
While this rapid growth is, as many will bear witness, a good problem to have, a manufacturing business must fill several roles to ensure smooth functioning, for example, machine operators, management, packers, shippers, and many others with varying pay scales. The sheer volume of employee and payroll management that manufacturing industries need is a definite HR nightmare. One must also consider aspects of the administration process, such as different pay cycles, different rate calculations, and the breakdown of various labor when handling payroll for businesses in the manufacturing industry. To summarize, dealing with the intricacies of payroll for the manufacturing industry should be efficient and adaptable. To establish a working payroll system in the manufacturing industry, one must first understand the industry’s main challenges or payroll issues.

"I’m pleased to announce that today PayPal committed to me that it no longer services this entity," he said. "For American companies, national security should be more important than the bottom line. Doing business with fiscal sponsors of Palestinian terrorists is not acceptable."
The revelation is the latest blow to Alliance for Global Justice's ability to rake in cash for itself and the 140 organizations it fiscally sponsors, including Samidoun, which has shared staffers with the Popular Front, according to Zachor Legal Institute, a think tank that contacted the Treasury Department and IRS about companies working with the Arizona group. Alliance for Global Justice also sponsors the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, a coalition accused of having terror ties that the Democratic fundraising giant ActBlue recently booted off its platform.
AFGJ had to move its fundraising operation to PayPal after Stripe, the Irish-American payment processor that handled $817 billion transactions in 2022, parted ways with it in early September. Salsa Labs stopped working with AFGJ in February, prompting the Arizona charity to put out a 1,000-word statement urging donors to send paper checks. Watchdogs, including Israel's NGO Monitor, have also zoned in on how AFGJ has sponsored Collectif Palestine Vaincra, which it says has coordinated with the Popular Front for a child "indoctrination" camp in the Gaza Strip.
AFGJ's online fundraising portal now produces an error that reads, "Your payment has been declined," when the donation button is pressed. The organization, which did not return a Washington Examiner request for comment, published a press release on its website noting that its projects have "found themselves to be targets of right-wing media attacks.
"The accusations caused financial institutions to cancel AFGJ’s contracts for accepting credit card donations for itself and its projects, distributing funds to projects, and carrying on other vital forms of business, without any investigation or due process by the banks," Alliance for Global Justice said this week. "AFGJ and its 140 fiscally-sponsored projects were suddenly de-platformed, blocked, from using these services. Projects that depend upon these tools have seen their payrolls, rent payments, and other critical financial transactions blocked."

Boosting Efficiency:  The Role of ERP Software in Modern Manufacturing Operations
In today's fast-paced manufacturing landscape, efficiency is not just a desirable trait; it's a necessity.  To stay competitive and meet the demands of the market, manufacturers must streamline their processes, optimize resource utilization, and enhance decision-making capabilities.  This is where Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software steps in as a game-changer.  In this article, we'll delve into the pivotal role of ERP systems in revolutionizing manufacturing operations, particularly in India's thriving industrial sector.
Tumblr media
Understanding ERP for Manufacturing Industry
ERP systems for manufacturing are comprehensive software solutions designed to integrate and automate core business processes such as production planning, inventory management, supply chain logistics, financial management, and human resources.  By consolidating data and operations into a unified platform, ERP empowers manufacturers with real-time insights, facilitates collaboration across departments, and enables informed decision-making.
Streamlining Operations with ERP Solutions
In the dynamic environment of manufacturing, where every minute counts, efficiency gains translate directly into cost savings and competitive advantages.  ERP software for manufacturing offers a multitude of features that streamline operations and drive efficiency:
1.   Enhanced Production Planning:  ERP systems enable manufacturers to create accurate production schedules based on demand forecasts, resource availability, and production capacity.  By optimizing production timelines and minimizing idle time, manufacturers can fulfill orders promptly and reduce lead times.
2.   Inventory Management:  Efficient inventory management is crucial for balancing supply and demand while minimizing holding costs.  ERP software provides real-time visibility into inventory levels, automates reorder points, and facilitates inventory optimization to prevent stockouts and overstock situations.
3.   Supply Chain Optimization:  ERP solutions for manufacturing integrate supply chain processes from procurement to distribution, enabling seamless coordination with suppliers and distributors.  By optimizing procurement cycles, minimizing transportation costs, and reducing lead times, manufacturers can enhance supply chain resilience and responsiveness.
4.   Quality Control:  Maintaining product quality is paramount in manufacturing to uphold brand reputation and customer satisfaction.  ERP systems offer quality management modules that streamline inspection processes, track product defects, and facilitate corrective actions to ensure adherence to quality standards.
5.   Financial Management:  Effective financial management is essential for sustaining manufacturing operations and driving profitability.  ERP software provides robust accounting modules that automate financial transactions, streamline budgeting and forecasting, and generate comprehensive financial reports for informed decision-making.
6.   Human Resource Management:  People are the cornerstone of manufacturing operations, and managing workforce efficiently is critical for productivity and employee satisfaction.  ERP systems for manufacturing include HR modules that automate payroll processing, manage employee records, and facilitate workforce planning to align staffing levels with production demands.
The Advantages of ERP for Manufacturing Companies in India
India's manufacturing sector is undergoing rapid transformation, fueled by factors such as government initiatives like "Make in India," technological advancements, and globalization.  In this dynamic landscape, ERP software plays a pivotal role in empowering manufacturing companies to thrive and remain competitive:
1.   Scalability:  ERP solutions for manufacturing are scalable, making them suitable for companies of all sizes – from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to large conglomerates.  Whether a company is expanding its operations or diversifying its product portfolio, ERP systems can adapt to evolving business needs and support growth.
2.   Compliance:  Regulatory compliance is a significant concern for manufacturing companies in India, given the complex regulatory environment.  ERP software incorporates compliance features that ensure adherence to industry regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements, minimizing the risk of non-compliance penalties.
3.   Localization:  ERP vendors catering to the Indian manufacturing sector offer localized solutions tailored to the unique requirements of the Indian market.  From multi-currency support to GST compliance features, these ERP systems are equipped with functionalities that address the specific challenges faced by Indian manufacturers.

1.   Industry-specific functionality:  Choose an ERP system that offers industry-specific features and functionalities tailored to the unique requirements of manufacturing operations.
2.   Scalability and flexibility:  Ensure that the ERP software can scale with your business and accommodate future growth and expansion.
3.   Ease of integration:  Look for ERP systems that seamlessly integrate with existing software applications, such as CRM systems, MES solutions, and IoT devices, to create a cohesive technology ecosystem.
4.   User-friendliness:  A user-friendly interface and intuitive navigation are essential for ensuring widespread adoption and maximizing user productivity.

University Professors Are Losing Their Jobs Over “New McCarthyism” on Gaza
As brutal police repression sweeps campus encampments, schools have been cutting ties with pro-Palestine faculty members without tenure.
There’s no official tally of the number of academic workers who have lost jobs or faced suspension over support for Palestine, not least because higher education in this country is disarticulated, often privatized, and reliant on short-term contract labor. By and large, professors facing job loss and suspensions over Palestine have brought these allegations into public view by speaking out themselves. Scores of academics across the country are likely under investigation, and many stand to have their contracts quietly expire without renewals. The Intercept spoke with more than a dozen professors, both adjuncts and those with tenure, whose employment has been imperiled by their pro-Palestine speech. Of the professors I talked to, all were at one point under investigation since October 7; some of the probes closed without findings of wrongdoing. Several faced varying degrees of suspensions, and four of the professors lost their jobs or expect to lose them next week when the semester ends without the renewal of their contracts. The interviews, including those with campus labor activists and academic associations, revealed a pattern of politically motivated repression where campaigns by pro-Israel advocates can mar the careers of academics because of comments that express outrage at Israel’s ongoing occupation and its war in Gaza. “The bulk of our inquiries, even our cases, have to do with violations of due process related to non-reappointment, to dismissal, to tenure award, et cetera,” said Anita Levy, senior program officer with the American Association of University Professors. Levy told me that the nonprofit organization, which advocates for faculty rights and academic freedom, currently has opened five cases in recent months related to pro-Palestinian speech. “When we get five or six of these cases in a two-month period, where there are suspensions related to social media posts over a current event, shall we say, the war in Gaza, that is unusual,” she said. “Of the cases that we’ve opened, none of them have been related to pro-Israel speech. All of them have been in support of the Palestinian cause.” We are at the dawn of a “new McCarthyism,” Levy said. “This may be the tip of the iceberg.” Institutions are well positioned to eliminate political dissenters from their payrolls under the misleading banner of protecting Jewish people, primed by heightened Republican attacks on higher education. “This is beyond the new McCarthyism. This has to deal fundamentally with Islamophobia, anti-Muslim racism, anti-Arab racism, anti-Palestinian racism,” said Mohamed Abdou, who is a visiting professor in Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African studies at Columbia University — that is, until this semester ends. Columbia President Minouche Shafik announced that the university was cutting ties with Abdou during a congressional hearing last month about antisemitism on campus. Abdou was one of five professors named by the school administrator but the only one without the relative protection of tenure. His one-year contract ends this month. “What she effectively did was blacklist me globally,” Abdou told me of Shafik’s testimony. (Columbia did not respond to a request for comment.) Abdou said he was smeared for words in a Facebook post on October 11 that were taken dramatically out of context. The activist-scholar was framed in Congress and in the right-wing media as an antisemite and Hamas supporter. His lengthy post asks readers to think about a future for Palestine, and support for resistance, beyond the binary of a secularized, Eurocentric state formation, or “Hamas and Islamic Jihad’s neoconservative idea of Sharia.”

Ways to efficiently structure your company's payroll function
Tumblr media
Organizational structure is an essential component of every company, whether consciously acknowledged or not. It serves as the framework for assigning roles, responsibilities, job functions, accountability, and decision-making authority within the organization. Similar to the overall organizational structure, the structure of the payroll function is equally important. It should be designed to align with the company's goals and objectives to ensure efficient payroll management and overall organizational success.
Managing payroll involves various tasks, such as calculating employee hours, processing payments, tax withholding, and maintaining accurate financial records for your business. The intricacies of payroll management, from handling sensitive employee data to tax calculations and fund transfers, can be complex and carry legal responsibilities. It is crucial to ensure compliance with legal requirements when managing payroll. Additionally, structuring the payroll function is vital to any organization's payroll strategy. So, let's discover ways to structure your company's payroll for better efficiency and employee satisfaction. Also, find the 7 FAQs when it comes to the ideal payroll solution for your organization.
Why do you need to structure your payroll function?
Structuring your company's payroll function is crucial for many reasons. By investing in well-designed payroll processing, organizations can effectively manage one of the most critical aspects of their operations while supporting overall business success.
Here are a few reasons why you must consider structuring your organizational payroll.
 ·        Accuracy and timeliness
A well-structured payroll function ensures accurate and timely payment to employees. Organizations can minimize errors in calculations, deductions, and tax withholdings by establishing transparent processes, roles, and responsibilities and leveraging technology. This, in turn, helps build trust and maintain positive employee relations.
·        Compliance with laws and regulations
Payroll structuring ensures organizations comply with various labor laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements. By staying up-to-date with changing regulations, implementing internal controls, and conducting periodic audits, companies can avoid penalties, legal issues, and reputational damage associated with non-compliance.
·        Efficiency and productivity
Structuring payroll optimizes efficiency and productivity within the organization. By automating manual processes, integrating systems, and streamlining workflows, payroll staff can focus on value-added tasks instead of repetitive administrative work. This frees up time for strategic initiatives and enhances overall productivity.
·        Cost savings
Effective payroll processing can lead to cost savings in multiple ways. Automation reduces manual labor and associated costs, while accurate calculations and compliance prevent costly errors and penalties. Moreover, streamlined processes reduce administrative burdens, allowing staff to work on other critical areas.
·        Employee satisfaction and retention
Timely and accurate payment is crucial to employee satisfaction. A well-structured payroll function ensures employees receive their wages and benefits without delays or errors, fostering a positive work environment. This contributes to higher employee morale, engagement, and retention.
·        Data security and confidentiality
Payroll structuring emphasizes secure data management practices, protecting sensitive employee information. Organizations can mitigate the risk of data breaches and maintain confidentiality by implementing appropriate safeguards, encryption measures, and access controls.
·        Reporting and decision-making
Structured payroll systems provide accurate and comprehensive reporting capabilities. This enables management to access key payroll data, such as labor costs, tax liabilities, and benefits expenses. Such data support informed decision-making, financial planning, and strategic resource allocation.
 How to structure your payroll?
A well-functioning payroll department is crucial for maintaining high employee satisfaction and improving overall organizational productivity and efficiency. Employees have a rightful expectation that their organizations will consistently and accurately compensate them according to their employment contracts.
However, a slow, overly complex, or error-prone payroll process can strain employee and employer relationships and waste valuable time for HR teams. To avoid such challenges and achieve efficiency, compliance, and timely payment, it is essential to structure the payroll function effectively.
Determining the structure of the payroll function is a key component of any organization's payroll strategy, regardless of its global or domestic operations. The structure primarily depends on two factors: the concentration of payroll activities and the desired level of outsourcing versus in-house management of these activities. In the following sections, we will guide you through the considerations for each of these factors.
 ·        Degree of concentration in payroll activities
As a company expands its operations across different states, provinces, or national borders, the workforce grows in size and diversity. Consequently, the payroll function becomes more intricate due to the diverse regulations and laws in each specific region.
Initially, companies often opt to establish separate payroll departments for each business unit or location, which usually leads to inconsistent processes, duplication of tasks, and inefficiencies. However, best practices suggest adopting a centralized model for administrative and transactional finance activities, including payroll.
According to a survey, 77% of businesses have implemented centralized payroll systems.
In the case of large global organizations, centralization is typically implemented regionally, as relying on a single centralized team may not suffice for the entire global workforce.
In an optimal scenario where organizations have well-developed payroll departments, they aim to create a Payroll Center of Excellence (COE) responsible for overseeing governance, policies, processes, continuous improvement, standards, technology, automation strategy guidance, and establishing performance metrics for the entire organization's payroll operations. Subsequently, these policies and guidelines can be customized as per the specific requirements of individual regions or locations.
Moreover, assigning a global process owner who can oversee the entire payroll processing is beneficial, ensuring dedicated governance and focused attention to the process.
For organizations with a wide geographical presence, exploring the option of establishing regional payroll shared services centers may be beneficial. These centers promote the growth of process knowledge, standardization, improved reporting and analysis capabilities, enhanced compliance oversight, and eliminate redundant tasks.
·        Level of activities managed in-house vs. outsourced
Typically, businesses opt to outsource non-core tasks or those that external parties can perform more effectively. This decision is driven by factors such as cost reduction, improved efficiency, adherence to regulations, and access to specialized knowledge.
Payroll processing can be intricate and challenging, especially considering the dynamic nature of rules and regulations across industries and countries. It is not surprising that many businesses opt to outsource their payroll operations, either partially or entirely, to external providers. This approach offers several advantages, making it a popular choice for organizations. Here are some of the key reasons why businesses choose payroll outsourcing:
Saves time
Minimizes     payroll errors
Improves     security
Maintains     compliance
Integrates     data
Facilitates     employee self-service
Typically, experts suggest considering a comprehensive payroll outsourcing solution that seamlessly integrates various components of workforce management with the payroll system. This inclusive platform covers the entire spectrum, encompassing recruitment, benefits, performance evaluation, and more. By consolidating these functions into a unified system, businesses gain advantages such as generating comprehensive reports, improving efficiency by replacing multiple platforms with a single one, fostering effective communication between employees and employers, and other benefits.
How to Manage an Effective Payroll Department
Managing an effective payroll department is crucial for any organization's financial stability and employee satisfaction. A well-run payroll department ensures accurate and timely payment processing, compliance with tax regulations, and seamless communication with employees. This section will explore essential strategies and best practices to manage a payroll department efficiently. From establishing streamlined processes to leveraging technology and prioritizing compliance, these insights will empower businesses to optimize payroll operations, reduce errors, and enhance overall organizational effectiveness.
·         Have a standardized and streamlined payroll system
·         Ensure payroll integration with other business functions
·         Update payroll software
·         Stay up-to-date on the latest employment laws
·         Establish a payroll calendar
·         Have a backup
·         Outsource your payroll process
·         Perform regular audits
·         Hire qualified staff
Choosing the Right Payroll System - 7 FAQs
1.      What features should I look for in a payroll system?
When evaluating payroll solutions, key features to consider typically include automated payroll calculations, tax management, direct deposit capabilities, benefits administration, reporting and analytics, compliance support, and integration with other HR or accounting systems.
2.      Should I opt for an in-house or cloud-based payroll system?
Both in-house and cloud-based payroll systems have their advantages. In-house systems provide more control and customization, while cloud-based systems offer accessibility, scalability, and automatic updates. Consider your organization's size, IT infrastructure, budget, and data security requirements when making this decision.
3.      How do I ensure data security and compliance?
Data security and compliance are paramount in payroll management. Look for payroll solutions that employ strong encryption, data backups, access controls, and compliance features for tax regulations and labor laws. Additionally, consider the system's track record for security breaches and their measures to address them.
4.      Can the payroll system handle my organization's specific needs?
Evaluate whether the payroll system can accommodate your organization's unique requirements, such as multi-state or international payroll, complex compensation structures, timekeeping integration, employee self-service portals, or specific reporting needs. Ensure the system is flexible enough to adapt to your evolving payroll demands.
5.      What level of customer support is provided?
Consider the availability and quality of customer support the payroll solution provider offers. Look for prompt assistance, training resources, user forums, and a responsive support team that efficiently addresses your inquiries or troubleshoots issues.
6.      How much does a payroll system cost?
Payroll system costs can vary depending on factors like the size of your organization, the number of employees, and the complexity of your payroll processes. Consider both upfront costs, such as software licenses or implementation fees, as well as ongoing fees for maintenance, updates, and support. Evaluate the system's return on investment (ROI) regarding time savings, reduced errors, and improved efficiency.
7.      Can the payroll system scale with my organization's growth?
Ensure that the chosen payroll solution can accommodate your organization's growth and future needs. Assess its scalability, ability to handle an increasing employee count, and compatibility with expanding business operations. Consider long-term partnerships and whether the system can adapt as your organization evolves.
Conclusion
Outsourcing payroll management to third-party service providers has emerged as a prominent trend in the business world. This trend is observed among companies of various sizes, as they recognize the significant cost savings achieved through outsourcing. Particularly for small business owners lacking the necessary resources to develop or update their payroll systems, opting for a professional, comprehensive payroll management company offers a strategic and economically viable solution.

Weeks after being flagged for her pro-Hamas agit-prop pushed on toddlers at PS 59 on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Siriana Abboud remains on the payroll and unpunished — because it’s next to impossible to discipline, much less fire, misbehaving New York City teachers.
And also because she has friends in high places.
Last month, The Post’s Susan Edelman broke the news of Abboud pushing an anti-Israel agenda on pre-K tots and sharing tips on indoctrinating kids online: Her site’s Allusio Academy preschool program seems to have come directly from a Hamas pre-K curriculum guide.
Her Instagram page is chock-a-block with pro-Palestinian content: skewed teach-ins on the history of Palestine, Zionism, European colonialism, and “orientalism,” plus how to help your child advocate for Palestine.
Days after Hamas’ Oct. 7 atrocities, she wrote on Instagram, “we stand with those still tearing down border walls” and “we show solidarity with those still fighting to free their stolen land.”Last month, The Post’s Susan Edelman broke the news of Siriana Abboud pushing an anti-Israel agenda on pre-K tots and sharing tips on indoctrinating kids online.Instagram @sirianajanine
Parents have asked the city Department of Education to investigate this teacher’s hate, but so far all that’s happened is that she’s gone on indefinite “medical leave” — an obvious sign that the DOE is simply hoping to wait out the storm.
State law makes it nearly impossible to fire a bad or even dangerous teacher who has tenure: The union-inspired arbitration rules can drag out the process for years.
In one infamous case, a city teacher accused of misconduct toward his students earned over $1.7 million in salary in the course of a 20-year “rubber room” stint.
But that’s not all that’s going on here.
Abboud’s issues go back at least a year: Jewish parents and teachers at the school complained back in October 2022 when she put a crude antisemitic poster on the bulletin board outside her classroom.
Other than having her take it down, the only official response was a single “restorative justice” session, where her colleagues could express their feelings.
Within weeks of that, the city Department of Education honored Abboud with a 2023-24 Big Apple Award, applauding her work “as a liberation-inspired educator” who “centers children’s agency and global consciousness,” raises the “societal expectations” of young children and other woke claptrap.348
In other words, she won official acclaim for the radicalism that now has her out of the classroom, but still getting paid.
Schools Chancellor David Banks plainly hasn’t cleaned house at DOE headquarters, if he’s even tried.
No wonder alert middle- and working-class families are fleeing the DOE’s schools.

Please people are now speculating Rose Hanbury's twins are actually William's and how he wants to divorce Kate so he can marry Rose but that would cause a succession crisis because the eldest son would have a better claim to the throne than George 💀
Lmao I've seen the main user speculating about that. They in fact, does not know shit about how this works. And I wanna get into how hard they don’t know how this works.
a) He ain't doing that. Like, I don't know him, but I'd be really surprised if that happened. I think that is a horrible dude, but those are still three kids who've known him as their father and have known their role in this family their entire lives. I think we'd have to go from "an abusive husband and bad father" level to "a psychopath" level for that lmao.
And I mean... listen. William is clearly all about the firm. Those kids? Are in the same place he was in. I think he prioritizes legal, legitimate children born in wedlock over some by-blows~ (their words, not mine!) lmao.
b) It would not in fact cause a succession crisis.
-Regardless of DNA, unless they wanted to go through the rigmarole of getting the marquess to have his name taken off the birth certificate and William's name added to it, which seems... so unlikely! I mean, it's one thing to claim another man's kids, another to literally say "take my name off the birth certificate, I am a clown". This is a 60-something aristo, and if he doesn't have any legal sons, he has no legal heir. If he's the legal father, that's what matters in terms of succession. The kids don't become legally William's because he marries their mom, says he's the dad, and is the biological father.
-You actually can't change the succession just because you want to! I see people citing the change in the primogeniture-based succession made "for Charlotte" "by Elizabeth". First off, that wasn't actually for Charlotte, it was changed (or set into place, can't remember if they got it done before the birth) before George was born. The idea was that if the firstborn was a girl, a younger brother wouldn't supplant her as heir. George's birth made it irrelevant for William and Kate's kids. The only way that it matters is if something horrible happens to George; Louis can't leapfrog over Charlotte.
Anyway, that didn't happen just because Elizabeth wanted it. There were actual legislative processes involved. It's... a legal process.
If William did ACKNOWLEDGE his children by Rose, if they do exist, this would not suddenly supplant George, or Charlotte, or Louis for that matter. Acknowledgment does not equal legitimizing, and frankly, legitimizing does not mean leapfrogging over the line of succession. Do people honestly think Kate, or for that matter her family, or for that matter WILLIAM'S family who have a vested interest would just... go with that? It would probably cause a legal crisis within the monarchy, and it would also make William look VERY BAD!!! The public that does support the monarchy loves those kids; they're the cute mascots. George's birth was celebrated globally. Money is made off those children.
-Legitimate children of the Prince of Wales/the King of England have access to taxpayer dollars. Just adding 2-3 kids onto that payroll? Haha. Have fun with that.
-Past English kings have acknowledged their illegitimate children. William would not in fact have anywhere near absolute power. Kings who have had close to absolute power? Still haven't been able to get this done lmao. Henry VIII actually had (or was rumored to have) discussions about his acknowledged illegitimate son Henry Fitzroy being legitimized, which would place him in the line of succession over Henry's legal wife's daughter. He didn't even try to get it done... for many reasons. It's not easy, and Henry VIII was actually a lot closer to being able to do whatever he wanted to any king today.
So, the idea of him legitimizing kids born prior to his marriage is very far-fetched if not borderline impossible, and if he did, the kids would not automatically leapfrog over Kate's children, potentially not only supplanting them of their inheritance of the crown, but their inheritance of different monetary/land-related inheritances that they would typically be entitled to or expected to be given by their father.
