Global Health Crisis Spurs Call for Universal Coverage
Tumblr media
The Dire State of Global Health Access
Over 4.5 billion people worldwide lack access to essential health services, according to a stark warning from the United Nations health agency. Furthermore, this glaring deficit underscores the pressing need for stronger political commitment and increased government investment in healthcare. Additionally, the report, a joint effort by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank, reveals that a staggering two billion people face severe financial hardships when they must pay out-of-pocket for necessary medical treatment.   A Threat to Stability and Development Goals "The fact that so many people cannot benefit from affordable, quality, essential health services not only puts their own health at risk, it also puts the stability of communities, societies, and economies at risk," emphasized Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. This crisis poses a major threat to the global health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which ambitiously aim to achieve universal health coverage for all by 2030.
Slow Progress and Catastrophic Health Spending
According to the report, over the past two decades, fewer than one-third of countries globally have improved health service coverage while reducing "catastrophic" levels of out-of-pocket health spending, which often exceed 25 percent of household income. To regain momentum toward these ambitious goals, the report calls for substantial investments in the public sector by governments and development partners.   A Call for Radical Reorientation To address this critical issue, the report emphasizes the need for a "radical reorientation" of health systems, with a primary focus on prioritizing primary healthcare, enhancing equity, and providing financial protection. It underscores the necessity for reform to combat the devastating impact of COVID-19 on health systems and the global healthcare workforce, as well as to address the challenges posed by economic downturns, climate change, and shifting political priorities.
Escaping Poverty Through Universal Health Coverage
Mamta Murthi, Vice President for Human Development at the World Bank, highlighted the significance of achieving universal health coverage in alleviating poverty. She noted, "We know that achieving universal health coverage is a critical step in helping people escape and stay out of poverty, yet there continues to be increased financial hardship, especially for the poorest and most vulnerable people."   A Global Pledge for Universal Health Coverage The report's release precedes a UN General Assembly high-level meeting, during which world leaders are expected to renew their commitment to making universal health coverage a reality for all. This significant event underscores the pressing urgency of addressing the global health crisis and ensuring access to essential healthcare services for billions of people worldwide.   Sources: THX News & United Nations. Today it's so beautifully stormy in Cape Town.
To think a year ago we were all so worried about reaching day zero and actually dying of thirst, prayer groups was established; South Africa was in unity and then BOOM 💣 its starts pouring💦💦💦

I must admit I was scared too. We were recycling water, suddenly everybody became concern about the plants 'cause they need water too😂
And now with this pandemic where we need to be indoors majority of the time, things are happening all around the world, most of us are experiencing similar problems, frustration, hopelessness, re evaluating our life's decision, thinking: "is this really how it's going to end?" , lives are being lost not only by the coronavirus but also by the hands (or knees) our fellow brothers😢
We constantly watch movies where there's this one person that wants to restore the world and repair the damage we as human beings have caused.
🌍Global warming
🌍Wastage of water
🌍And many more
What if? 🤔
This is all attempts of God trying to restore humanity? Nevermind restoring Earth(Not that it's not important)
What if it's all about us joining in harmony again?
#worldpeace #peaceworld #worldpeacewanted #worldpeacekeepers #worldpeaceispossible #worldpeacestartswithme
Just thinking out loud🤷‍♀️

On lockdown? Nothing to do? Not sure about your future? Most people are feeling scared, worried and hopeless during these challenging times. While the ultimate goal is to resolve the current global crisis and get things back to normal, there is also no guarantee that similar epidemics won't happen again. What can you do? How can you protect yourself and your family? Can you be safe from financial and personal ruin from unforeseen and uncontrollable global catastrophic events? The only way to do that is to be prepared, and if you've been waiting for the "right time"... Chances are, you will continue to wait until it's too late. There is no "right" or even "perfect" time. That time is now. Turn this lockdown period into opportunity... Watch this video lesson to learn how: https://youtu.be/aLEMQGYnaEw #coronavirus #covid19 #covid_19 #covid #corona #coronavirusvlog #lockdown #lockdownvlog #malaysialockdown #lockdownmalaysia #malaysialockdown2020🇲🇾 #malaysialockdown2020 #malaysialockdown14days #malaysialockdownday1 #epidemic #pandemic #recession #crisis #globalcrisis #healthcrisis #globalhealth #globalhealthcrisis #crises #globalpandemic #globalepidemic #hardtimes #toughtimes #challengingtimes #simonleung #thesimonleung (at Malaysia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B96Vk86JzBT/?igshid=kw8bcyrntf28

Global health crisis
Poverty and world hunger
Although it may seem that every girl has the chance to go to school, this is far from correct. 62 million girls do not attend school because of child labour, early marriage, conflict within countries, cost gender bias, and many more barriers that prevent girls from getting the education that they deserve. Organizations such as the Malala fund give girls around the world, especially in developing nations, a chance to use their right of education. Malala Yousafzai spoke to 193 member countries of the United Nations and asked world leaders to promise that every child will have the right to safe, free and quality primary and secondary education. Advocates like Malala will stand up for these helpless girls through uniting worldwide nations on a matter that affects millions.
Health crises are global issues that impact everyone, no matter who they are. Diseases move around quickly and easily, making everyone vulnerable to it, which is why organization such as The World Health Organization exist. WHO is a United Nations agency at the centre of international efforts which identifies and controls health threats that prevail. An example is when SARS broke out in 2002 and killed nearly 800 people and WHO officials helped coordinate measures that limited the spread of this disease and prevented outbreak from infecting people globally. There is a threat of another pandemic outbreaking soon and so in response, WHO has set up the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network. This international group links different countries plans and their responses to ensure that help will be there in case an outbreak occurs.
Poverty and world hunger is an issue that many people don’t care to pay attention to, but it is something that many people struggle with. In 2006, the World Bank estimated that more than a billion of the 6.65 billion people in the world lived in absolute poverty. Lack of education, lack of necessary resources, discrimination and war are only a few of the causes of poverty. The dilemma identified by Robbins has become the focus of international efforts. 185 countries and the European Community met in Rome of 1996, and the United Nations made the first World Food Summit whose goal was to half the number of people who live in hunger and poverty. Even in developed countries like Canada and America, people still live in poverty and organizations like food banks and drop-in centers helped over 720 000 Canadians alone in March of 2007.
