So I saw that newer trailer for Minus One and I'm kind of freaking out from this theory I'm having.
The vibe I'm getting from the marketing (and the time period this movie is set in) that a major theme of this movie is how the US Occupation of Japan killed a huge amount of its culture. Setting them back to -1 so to speak. In that trailer two shots really shook me the most: that shot of the people just standing and watching as an explosion engulfs them and the other is the shot of Godzilla looking like he's covered in burns.
What if America drops a third nuke... and it doesn't even kill him...
If I'm right this movie is going to haunt me.

saw Godzilla - 0.1 and can’t stop thinkin about Jaeger pilot Steve who lost his partner to a cat4 kaiju. under orders not the leave the shatterdome because they’re bringing in someone from Juneau to test potential drift compatibility even though he’s tired and in mourning for fuck’s sake.
lo and behold Hop (who everyone thought was dead) rolls up with a mechanic named Max with a helluva chip on her shoulder and you, the sole survivor of a cat6 event.
Steve hasn’t seen you since the academy and it’s not like you were friendly then, so why does Owen’s think this shit’ll work now? and where’s your partner? … he could’ve sworn it was Hargrove or something.
smash cut to! idk quasi rivals to lovers type beat.

I think there's a tendency to picture a dramatic revolution or collapse that sweeps away everything that came before it, when history has far more examples of gradual shifts and periods of long grinding stasis, with our expectations being the thing that rises and falls.
for example consider Japan at the peak of its economic bubble, when people were making movies about how soon it would take over the world: thirty years later its GDP is slightly lower than it was then (while China's has increased twenty times over the same period, but that's another story).
but Japan still exists! and that's exactly the point: if you visited Japan in 1995 and 2025 you might not notice that much difference? I mean that famous capsule tower is getting demolished but other than that Tokyo is still much as it was, the dramatic collapse affected expectations, it didn't involve a literal Godzilla attack.
and you could tell a similar story about Russia, which some people believed was on track in the 1960s and '70s to overtake the US, before those expectations also collapsed -- albeit in slightly more dramatic fashion -- to be followed by a long period of relative stasis.
financial crises like the GFC follow a similar pattern, where it turns out that the actual value of companies and houses is lower than it seemed on paper, and that crash of expectations can have painful real world consequences, but in most cases the companies (Lehman aside) and the houses still exist, even when the mortages are underwater the homes (coastal towns aside) as a rule are not.
there are dramatic stories in progress today but most of them also involve projections into the future that make our expectations swing wildly up and down as new events transpire, even if the actual impact of each event is very modest; +0.1% compounded takes you to heaven and -0.1% compounded takes you to hell, but at any given time they're almost indistinguishable.

My Spotify Wrapped (Kinda)
My family all share the Spotify account, but I'm for sure the one who uses it the most. Mainly because I tend to stay up until sunrise writing fanfic or scrolling Tumblr or reading fanfic while letting my playlist run in the background. ADHD babeyyyyyyyyy
But yeah so there's some of my family members mixed in here and I'll be doing the fun game of identifying where their influences show up in the wrapped!
Tumblr media
Oh the scorecore is my brother. He made a whole playlist of Movie and Video Game scores he loves and he listens to it all the time. I know the Kung Fu Panda and Godzilla: King of the Monsters soundtracks so well (not complaining they slap).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry for them all being different sizes. Anyway the middle orange one is for sure my brother's tastes mainly and the morning yellow one is probably largely him as well (though I do enjoy a good Energetic song that makes me writhe while grinning so it's not purely him). The last one is all me though and yeah mostly at night.
Tumblr media
Goh fucking hell- I mean like I said my family of 4 all share this one account but still. I know a huge chunk of that was me, I-I'm looping Playing with Bad Luck by Set It Off right now and the other night I just sat there listening to Tainted Love for literal hours.
Tumblr media
Oh this is for sure because the song is so fucking short. No way in hell this'd be winning if it was for the fact it's like 1 minute long and worked great for a couple night as Writing Background Music while I wrote Hobbit fics. If I had to guess my most looped after this I'd bet on an AJR song or a Set It Off or MCR one.
Tumblr media
... Okay so I was almost right- I really listened to Lift Me Up that much? It is a fantastic Bagginshield song, granted, and just a fantastic song in general. I fucking love OneRepublic.
Cut Off is because of OFMD. I'm sorry that is exactly the song playing in Ed's head at the end of the finale.
Tumblr media
This isn't a surprise except for the 0.1% TOP LISTENER HOLY FUCK UM YOU'RE WELCOME BOYS I GUESS HOLY- WHAT
I say as I loop one of their songs making this post.
Tumblr media
Yeah this one is all me, except Imagine Dragons is probably a combo me and my dad, he also loves them.
Tumblr media
WHAT THE- MY BROTHER AND I HAVE LIKE 3 PODCASTS WE LISTEN TO AND ONE OF THOSE ONLY UPLOADS A SINGLE EPISODE A YEAR
I KNOW THEY'RE ALL 1 HOUR+ BUT STILL
Tumblr media
I cannot stress enough that these are the only 5 podcasts we have ever listened to on Spotify and that I've only listened to like 5 episodes maximum from G!MFST and The Cryptid Factor.
Tumblr media
This is the one that only uploads a single episode a year by the way. And between my brother and I we spent over half our entire podcast time on it. Granted, I did use it to fall asleep to for a couple of months there. After a few gos around learning the jokes in and out, it was a very reliable Background Noise to lull me to sleep and make sure my dreams didn't get too anxiety-inducing. Highly recommend it!
Tumblr media
I can't tell if this is because my brother loves a lot of music from past decades or if it's because I almost exclusively listen to songs form the early 2000's or 2010's with the exception of a few select bands and songs. ... It's probably both, neither of us keep up with current music trends.
SHOCKED that no Goo Goo Dolls made it onto this!

The New Year (2023)!
Hi there and happy new year!
I'm back after a short break for the holidays! As of writing, I've been maintaining my blog on my own website for over a year. I've grown that blog by extending it out to a newsletter and a Tumblr. Happy anniversary to the blog and let's get to it! This one's going to be pretty personal and then next week I'll get back to talking about comics, storytelling, the not-so-secret life of an editor, and pressing issues of social and societal import!
Being self-reflective, the transition from one year to another is a complicated time. It is the period when what has been and what could be really collide and force one to define what is.
I tried to get out of a little bit of that by posting a whole week into the year, but honestly, that feeling's still coming for me. Professionally and creatively, that transition feels like a bit of a metamorphosis as I transition from what I've been doing to what I hope to do. While there are plenty of constants being maintained, things like Sonic which I've now been working on for 5 years (and which will soon have been releasing for 5 years), I've also recently said goodbye to Transformers and hello to Godzilla as an editor. This time last year, the last issue of TF Wreckers was about to be released and I knew I had at least a little bit of other writing work in the hopper. This time this year, I don't have any releases currently scheduled, and yet, I'm hoping/already in some ways planning for this year to have my highest writing output yet. I am a writer and an editor and I want both sides to feel equally nurtured.
For a long time, I haven't really made resolutions with the new year. Not because I feel the distinction of years is arbitrary or I don't believe I'll stick to them or anything.More, the goals I was already setting for myself existed outside the scope of the year change and so it wouldn't feel genuine to call them resolutions when they were pre-existing. And this year, for the first time, I have some. I'm not going to share them in full--a few people close to me know, but they're personal and outside the scope of the transparency I usually try to provide. But it's an interesting feeling having some "resolutions" and, like so many people, at least right now, they're energizing me even when other things aren't.
The other part of the new year, of course, is reflecting on the previous year. What you did, what you enjoyed, the moments big and small and that seemed so important, but were quickly forgotten. Fortunately, through the blessing of a blog, here's some of the stuff that I was reminded I did proudly in 2022.
I got engaged to Rebecca Ann. They're my best friend and favorite person and I love them.
I launched a website and a blog that posted *nearly* weekly and made a few sales.
I went to WonderCon, Tucson Comic-Con, San Diego Comic-Con, and a ton of smaller events around CA.
I released multiple Transformers comics that I wrote, including finally getting to contribute to Beast Wars, a lifelong dream.
I saw my sister graduate high school.
I made some weird little drawings and comics for myself, many of them posted here.
I wrote more than I probably ever have, though there's plenty of it that'll likely never see the light of day.
I ended up in the top 0.1% of Lizzo listeners on Spotify for the second year in a row. I don't know that this is actually as momentous an accomplishment as some of these other things, but it is funny.
I somehow managed to do a little bit of traveling, spent a lot of time with family, and had some very rough moments in crowded places without getting sick.
I saw Transformers to it's end with some of the best TF books of all time.
I hit a milestone issue, #50, with Sonic and then kept going and have a lot more to come.
I made progress on various other deals and titles that you'll be finding out more about from IDW in the weeks and months to come.
I met various other professional goals in creating comics I'm proud of and working with some of the greatest creators ever to practice the craft.
I was a good cat dad.
I made new friends.
I tried really, really hard to find a balance that works for me between work and life and the ways that so many of my interests and hobbies overlap with my job. I'm not sure I've quite got it down just yet, but I'm getting there.
I also, liked a ton of stuff! So, if you're maybe new here for one reason or another, here's your chance to get an idea of what sort of stuff I like and if you like it too, maybe we can talk.
What I enjoyed last year (not a comprehensive list, but a lot of it):  Blank Check (Podcast), Smallville (TV show), Special by Lizzo (Album), Bar Rescue (TV show), Chainsaw Man (Manga & Anime), Honkai Impact (Video game), She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (TV show), Ted Lasso (TV show), Genshin Impact (Video Game), multiple comics unions forming, Pokemon games, Dr. Gameshow (Podcast), Spy x Family (Manga & Anime), Jack Johnson (Musician), The Flophouse Podcast, Willy's Wonderland (Movie), Barbarian (Movie), Dungeons & Daddies (Podcast), Persona 5 Strikers (Video Game), My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix (book), Komi Can't Communicate (Anime), Hello From the Magic Tavern (Podcast), The Afterparty (TV show), X (Movie), Pearl (Movie), Junkwraith by Ellinor Richey (Comic), Aeonian Red by Gigi Dutreix (Webcomic), Solve this Murder (Podcast), Pokemon cards, Medallion Status by John Hodgman (Book),  Beastars (Manga), Mark Darkly's Dark Room #1 (Comic), Escape This Podcast, Nancy (comic strip), Dicktown (TV Show), Garth Marenghi's Dark Place (TV Show, doesn't fully hold up, but still some great bits), My Lovey-Dovey Wife is a Stone Cold Killer (Manga), The Batman (Movie), the Sonic 30th Anniversary symphony, Turning Red (Movie), Inventing Anna (TV Show), Jujutsu Kaisen (Manga), Shrek! by William Steig (Book), Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls (TV show), Tomie by Junji Ito (Book), Woke Season 2 (TV show), Young Justice (TV show), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Movie), Moon Knight (TV show), Chopping Mall (Movie), Dead Eyes (Podcast), Mr. Mayor (TV show), Kaguya-Sama: Love is War (Manga & Anime), Secret Identity by Alex Segura (Book), Maniac of New York (Comic), Catherine Full Body (Video Game), Hey Riddle Riddle (Podcast), The Rock Cocks (Webcomic for Adults Only), Alfie (Webcomic for Adults Only), Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (Movie), Squirrel Girl The Unbeatable Radio Show (podcast), Venom (Movie), The Quick and the Dead (Movie), A Simple Plan (Movie), Army of Darkness (Movie), Sweat & Soap (Manga), Obi-Wan Kenobi (TV show), Vixen: NYC (Webcomic), Ms. Marvel (TV show), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW Comic),Witch Watch (Manga), Persona 5 Royal (Video Game), Wotokoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Manga), Sonic Origins (Video Game), Only Murders in the Building (TV show), Monthly Girls Nozaki-Kun (Manga), Lore Olympus (Webcomic), Gil Thorp (Comic), Halloween Kills (Movie), Cyberpunk Edgerunners (Anime), My Hero Academia (Anime), Uzaki-Chan Wants to Hang Out (Anime), Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Video Game), Godzilla (1954 movie), Werewolf by Night (Movie), Far Sector (Comic), Abbott Elementary (TV show), The Simpsons (TV show), The Loneliest Time by Carly Rae Jepsen (Album), Prom Queen by Beach Bunny (Album), House of Leaves by Mark Z. Announcements: Arizona Comic Book Arts Festival - 2/25! Becca and I will be coming to the AZ Comic Arts Fest! It's a one day comic-focused event in Phoenix, AZ. Tickets are only like $10. And besides us, there's an incredible group of folks going. Mitch Gerads! Steve Rude! John Layman! Henry Barajas! Jay Fotos! Jeff Mariotte! Marcy Rockwell! John Yurcaba! Andrew MacLean! Alexis Zirrit! Meredith McClaren! James Owen! Ryan Cody! And many more! Come and see us!
Next week: Over the break, I saw some chatter about whether or not some of the larger publishers are due for another reboot/relaunch/continuity reset of some sort and we'll talk about why limited continuity is so appealing for pitches and creators and new readers, but how leaving continuity behind is also a headache and a half for everyone involved!
Pic of the Week: Becca ended up having one last little event right at the end of the year! They tabled at the New Year's Eve party for fundraising for block reconstruction in our neighborhood! So we spent our NYE doing something we did a lot this year, tabling and selling cool merch.

Hello Everybody! I want to remind you that I made four Kaijus who are not mine but belong to their rightful owners. I really love the design that their artists made for them. I love how unique they were so I wanted to draw them because I want to make a gift for their owners. They've done a wonderful and awesome job with their Kaiju OC's. I hope you know who they belong to. If not you can find their names on the pictures or I can put down where to find them!

Hi Red. Your reconstructions are sooooo damned good and expertly done that whatever version you post, it's going to look amazing. DVD/Blu ray companies who own certain titles don't give these films the love and respect you have given to them. I'm sure I speak for everyone on this site that we are looking forward to the posting of Godzilla vs. the Thing plus all the other treats you have planned on your to do list (for me especially your planned Terror of Mechagodzilla reconstruction).
Ahh, you flatter me! I’m looking forward to my other projects as well; Son of Godzilla is going to present some unique challenges that I haven’t really made up my mind how to approach, but I’m kind of getting my excitement for these projects back up now that I’ve actually gotten to work on Godzilla vs. the Thing. I was a little fatigued after NGE:0.1 and the Shin Godzilla edit but this one’s kind of revitalized me.

No one knows what lingers outside creation. Outside everything that exists and does not exists. You know why? Because only Nueva Prym knows. Because He created existence at his fingertips. And that made Him exhausted. Using 0.1% percent of His powers. His more of a "Try to do something stupid, for the 115th time, and I'll whoop you out of existence. Obliterated. Gone. Forever." Kind of Primordial Being. He's the Eldest of the Triuminous. His younger brothers, Time and Knowledge/Forbidden, is inside Creation and is handling His job. I mean He did create His brothers too. Which required 1% percent of His powers. So He just let them handle creation for the time being. Well, until Armageddon. Nueva Prym even gave a special magic throughout creation, that no one, not even the gods, nor death can pronounce His name. So they just call him "The One of Presence". His two brothers are the only ones who could say His name though. From time to time, Dronos(Time) would whisper to Nueva, and ask for His guidance. Even Gnosis(Knowledge/Forbidden) asks for his counseling. Oh! The little black smudge at Nueva's left, that was a failed creation. He completely obliterated it for reasons only He could understand. But yeah, that's Nueva Prym. Eldest of the Triuminous. Primordial God of Everything/Creation. But there are lesser gods of Creation. Which He secretly created just right after the big flood. That's another story to tell. Don't think that He is not a Loving God. Because He is. He just wants His baby to walk on it's own feet and see how much it'll grow. Until it needs His guidance once more. Oh! And He also has a champion. I'm guessing you already know who he is? No, not Godzilla. It's the King of The North.

Machines, Steam & Godzilla
Hello, Ni hao, G’day, welcome to another episode of rambunctious fun and games from those Nerds we all love. We wish to say an especially warm welcome to our friends in China, and thank you for listening, you are awesome. Now this week we have Buck up first with news about the rise of the machines. Now please note we said rise, not uprising, two totally different things which we explain in the show. We discuss the different attitudes between countries like Japan who are excited to see advancement in AI and robotics; compared to the sad grumpy people in Hollywood who think Robots are going to take over the world in a violent revolution. But honestly, if the robots are going to take over can they hurry up, I mean have you looked at what those apes we call politicians are doing to the place? Things are so bad we have idiots somehow gluing themselves to the road, we all learned about glue in at 5 years of age making arts and craft. Even then we never managed to glue ourselves to the floor.
Next up we look at France and the judgement against Steam finally coming down. Now this is going to be an interesting topic as we look at some of the ramifications. Plus we ask the real hard hitting question that really defines the situation. That’s right folks, you will hear it here first, are the French gamers really going to care what the courts and government say? Are Valve really going to be concerned about this? If in space no one can hear you scream are all farts silent but violent? Um, yes, well if anyone can answer those let us know, these are truly hard hitting facts that we wish to know.
This week we have a review from the DJ on the anime trilogy of Godzilla movies, and wow these are looking really cool. Spoiler, they rock and you should really take the time to go and watch them some time soon. While it is cgi animation it still works well and is a whole lot of fun with the usual Japanese drama that makes Anime so much fun. These movies are Godzilla: Planet of the monsters, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, and the last movie Godzilla: The Planet Eater. Check them out and let us know what you think in the Nerds Amalgamated group page on Facebook.
As usual we have the games being played, shout out, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. Once again thank you for listening and we hope you enjoyed the episode. Take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

During its beta phase, Firefox proved to be popular with its testers and was praised for its speed, security, and add-ons compared to Microsoft's then-dominant Internet Explorer 6. Firefox is the spiritual successor of Netscape Navigator, as the Mozilla community was created by Netscape in 1998 before their acquisition by AOL. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox

Remembrances
21 Sept 2019 - Aron Eisenberg, American actor who played Nog, a Ferengi, through all seven seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Although the part called for him to appear under heavy makeup, he appeared without makeup as a news vendor in the episode "Far Beyond the Stars". He later guest-starred as a Kazon called Kar in "Initiations", an episode of Star Trek Voyager, and was a host and producer of the Star Trek themed podcast The 7th Rule. He died at the age of 50 in Los Angeles, California - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aron_Eisenberg
21 Sept 2019 - Sigmund Jähn, Germancosmonaut and pilot who in 1978 became the first German to fly into space as part of the Soviet Union's Interkosmos programme. He flew on board Soyuz 31, launched 26 August 1978 to the Soviet space station Salyut 6, where he conducted experiments in remote sensing of the earth, medicine, biology, materials science, and geophysics. After 124 orbits he returned on Soyuz 29 and landed on 3 September 1978, having spent 7 days, 20 hours, and 49 minutes in space. Because the Soviet and American space programs maintain distinctive vocabularies, he was a cosmonaut rather than an astronaut. During and after the flight, the socialist authorities of the GDR acclaimed him as "the first German in space", emphasizing an East German victory over West Germany. Upon his return he headed the East Germany Army's Cosmonaut Training Center near Moscow until German unification in 1990, when he left the East German military with the rank of major general. Jähn was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union on 3 September 1978. He died at the age of 82 in Strausberg,Brandenburg - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigmund_J%C3%A4hn
23 Sept 1939 - Sigmund Freud born Sigismund Schlomo Freud, Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. In founding psychoanalysis, Freud developed therapeutic techniques such as the use of free association and discovered transference, establishing its central role in the analytic process. Freud's redefinition of sexuality to include its infantile forms led him to formulate the Oedipus complex as the central tenet of psychoanalytical theory. Nonetheless, Freud's work has suffused contemporary Western thought and popular culture. In the words of W. H. Auden's 1940 poetic tribute to Freud, he had created "a whole climate of opinion / under whom we conduct our different lives." He died from a drug overdose at the age of 83 in Hampstead, London - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigmund_Freud
Famous Birthdays
23 Sept 1869 - Mary Mallon, also known as Typhoid Mary, was an Irish-American cook. She was the first person in the United States identified as an asymptomatic carrier of the pathogen associated with typhoid fever. She was presumed to have infected 51 people, three of whom died, over the course of her career as a cook. She was twice forcibly isolated by public health authorities and died after a total of nearly three decades in isolation. She was born in Cookstown,County Tyrone - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Mallon
23 Sept 1897 – Walter Pidgeon, Canadian-American actor. He earned two Academy Award for Best Actor nominations for his roles in Mrs. Miniver and Madame Curie. Pidgeon also starred in many films such as most famously Forbidden Planet which he played as Dr. Morbius. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 and a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 1975. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Pidgeon
23 Sept 1917 - Asima Chatterjee, Indian organic chemist noted for her work in the fields of organic chemistry and phytomedicine. Her most notable work includes research on vinca alkaloids, the development of anti-epileptic drugs, and development of anti-malarial drugs. She also authored a considerable volume of work on medicinal plants of the Indian subcontinent. She was the first woman to receive a Doctorate of Science from an Indian university. Chatterjee also wrote around 400 papers which were published in both national and international journals. She was born Calcutta now known as Kolkata - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asima_Chatterjee
Events of Interest
23 Sept 1846 – Astronomers Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier, John Couch Adams and Johann Gottfried Galle collaborate on the discovery of Neptune. The planet Neptune was mathematically predicted before it was directly observed. With a prediction by Urbain Le Verrier, telescopic observations confirming the existence of a major planet were made. It was a sensational moment of 19th-century science, and dramatic confirmation of Newtonian gravitational theory. In François Arago's apt phrase, Le Verrier had discovered a planet "with the point of his pen". The discovery of Neptune led to the discovery of its moon Triton by William Lassell just seventeen days later. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discovery_of_Neptune
23 Sept 1962 – The Jetsons premiered in prime time with its very first episode, a little bit of lunacy entitled "Rosey the Robot.", it was Hanna-Barbera's Space Age counterpart to The Flintstones. While the Flintstones lived in a world which was a comical version of the "stone age", with machines powered by birds and dinosaurs, the Jetsons live in a comical version of a century in the future, with elaborate robotic contraptions, aliens, holograms, and whimsical inventions. The original series comprised 24 episodes and aired on Sunday nights on ABC America. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jetsons
24 Sept 1957 - In 1954, the US Supreme Court ruled in the famous Brown v Board of Education case that segregation of schools in the American South was unconstitutional. Despite this ruling, integrating the schools was not a simple act. The conflict over segregation in schools reached its height at Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas. Nine black students attempted to enroll in 1957, prompting a fierce backlash from the pro-segregation state government of governor Orval Faubus. On September 4, 1957, the Arkansas National Guard were mobilized by Faubus to prevent the integration of the students. The intervention of President Dwight D. Eisenhower proved decisive: he ordered the National Guard be federalized, taking them out of the Governor's control, and ordered the US Army to support the integration of the school. The students were successfully integrated on September 23, 1957. The photo was taken on the 24th of Sept 1957. - https://www.onthisday.com/photos/little-rock-crisis

ICYMI:
Forexlive Americas forex news wrap: JPY pairs taking it on the chin
USD/JPY held its early session high into the Tokyo fix but once that was out the way the strong yen flexed again, taking USD/JPY below 109.50, but not too much lower. Yen crosses fell along with the lower USD/JPY. Its circa 109.50 as I update.
On the news/data front from Japan we got improved machine orders, the highest bank lending for the month since May 2009, and PPI that was neither here nor there really.
Bank of Japan JGB buying was smaller in the 3 to 5 year space compared with their previous operation – the Bank has told us this would happen in April. Bank of Japan Governor Kuroda was in parliament (again) today, not adding anything he hadn’t said before really, though.
Australian consumer confidence data fell on the month (WPAC data), confirming the weekly sentiment data slide (it bounced this week but the trend is lower). But the focus was on China inflation data (March), which showed a small tick higher in y/y CPI (but a lower m/m change) and a small drop in the PPI (admittedly from an 8 year high in the previous month). CPI is still short of target, but with a strong PPI Chinese authorities will not be dissuaded from their (very) gentle winding back of accommodation (it was the 13th consecutive day the PBOC skipped OMOs, for a net small drain (again) on the day due to maturing reverse repos).
EUR, CHF, NZD and AUD all lost ground against the USD. Ranges were not large though.
GBP is pretty much unchanged against the big dollar, not as strong as the yen but a good (relative) performer on the session nonetheless.
Politics news – a House ‘special election’ in Kansas resulted in a Republican victory, but it was a close-run thing apparently.
Regional equities:
Nikkei -1.20%
Shanghai -0.32%
HK -0.15%
ASX -0.03%
Still to come (tomorrow):
More China data due – March trade balance due tomorrow

Hi Red...I can hardly wait for you to get to Godzilla vs the Thing. In your capable hands, it's going to look 100 times better than it ever did in its original 1964 release. It happens to be my personal favorite of the three Godzilla films AIP released in the United States with the Titra/Titan Sound dubs.
You flatter me! I know I've put it off kind of a lot but I am looking forward to doing it; I'll try and get through the subs for Eva 0.1 quickly so I can do it (Aegisub's interface is kind of opaque but I'm getting the hang of it)
