Google I/O Developer Conference 2019 Round Up: Flutter News and new Updates:

Google I/O which simply mean Innovation In Open – From all around the world Google I/O brings together the globe for talks, First look at Google’s Latest development product and hands-on learning with Google.

These Google I/O events get organized every year by Google is also known as a tech giant and at the ongoing 2019 Google investigate to its Flutter Framework.

Google has announced a number of updates towards its products and services with the aim as we interact with the technology and live our lives.

Today we gonna talk about highlights from the event – Flutter news at Google I/O:

The core flutter project has been under progress that enables desktop-class apps, with input prototypes such as window resizing, tooling for chrome OS app development, keyboard, and mouse.

1. Flutter for WEB:

As per Flutter at I/O ’19 with flutter for web, you can create graphically rich and highly attractive content. It also allows web-based applications to be built using the Flutter framework.

Flutter announced to continue evolving this version with a focused performance and according to a codebase which allows developers to compile existing Flutter code written in dart into a great client experience that can be embedded with the browser that can be deployed to any other browser easily.

The Flutter 1.5 has added different updates in terms of the latest update for new App Store iOS SDK requirements, Updates to the iOS and material widgets and more.

2. Android Q Beta 3:

As per the announcement, there are currently 2.5 billion active Android devices which get increased on daily basis, just after these Google has launched Android Q Beta 3 for the developers at the I/O ’19.

The exciting news is that Android Q Beta 3 will not be limited to Pixel devices like the first two beta versions. It can be installable on more than 20 different smartphones from 12 decided OEMs that offer us an opportunity to analyze various Android Q features like;

Native dark mode

Native support for foldable devices and 5G network

Focus mode to prevent some apps to send notifications for a certain time interval.

An introduction towards the new emojis that includes 53 new non-binary designs for icons that define as ‘unisex’.

Support for system-level biometrics and passive authentications methods.

Different options to apply security patches to avoid Reboot of the devices.

3. Kotlin-First Development:

Another official android development programming language – Kotlin.

Some of the changes will make every android developer or business leader to get the answer for the question ‘ The right time to begin Android app development with Kotlin’ and gives them insights to join the campaign of brands like Pinterest, Square, and Uber who have switched to Kotlin for a better future.

4. A lot of improvements in Android Studio:

At the event, Google developer also endorsed a huge number of improvements in Android Studio 3.5 Beta, In three basic categories: Feature polish, System Health, and Bugs.

5. Flutter for Embedded Devices:

Google-built features for the smart display platform which are powered by Flutter and one of the example is Google Home Hub. This means that now Google Assistant actions can run with Flutter App in upcoming years.

6. Simplified UI Development:

At the event, Google has shared that they have introduced 11 new JetPack libraries with an open sourced preview of Jetpack compose.

JetPack Compose is a new toolkit with the aim of streamlining the UI Development experience.

Some Minor Updates shared by Google I/O:

Apart from these Google I/O has also informed about some of the minor updates in the existing processes, features, and gadgets in order to deliver a personalized and highly secured experience to the Android app users and developers as well.

Let me brief some of them are Google Nest Hub Max, AI and ML updates, Android Auto new Design, Digital Wellbeing Update, AI and Ml Update, Google Home update, Update in ARCore and Better Privacy Control.

There is no word “subfluence,” or only barely one. This started with the self-written biographical note of poet Jack Hirschman, in A Caterpillar Anthology (Clayton Eshleman, ed., 1971) —

“Influence” — that word — led to thinking about variations, e.g., effluence, outfluence, pre-fluence... “subfluence” — an underground stream a less-than fluency (stammering, stuttering) a brittleness?

Little — or nothing — surfaced in a google books search, save for errors — typically a “sub” at the end of one line, a “fluence” at the start of the next (in a different column). Quite enough for present purposes. And so these subfluence derivations are built around a word that isn’t quite a word. Some license has been taken with the text in this post: dispensing ellipsis or [brackets] where text is erased (or rather, dropped); in some instances, some words that preceded the subfluence, are moved to follow it.

And yet, the word does appear, in some (and only a few) geological texts, typically having to do with the geotectonic unterströmungshypothese (undercurrent) concepts — and field work done in the Northern Calcareous Alps — of and by Otto Ampferer (1875-1947). New framework seems to have performance issues

This version of ABP for the new Safari framework unfortuantely seems to kill performance on my computers. Maybe it’s partially related to them being a bit older (one is a Mid 2011 Mini, the other is a 2012 iMac), but with ABP enabled I can’t even open a new tab/window and type a URL into the bar and expect Safari to accept the input without having to hold down the return key until it goes or wait a minute after opening a new tab or window. I also noticed that using Twitter was jumpy and lagged even with simple typing, it felt like all the dynamic content it relies on was just struggling to be processed through whatever framework Apple is forcing. Hopefully the devloper can figure out the performance issues because it’s really, really bad now.

why isn’t this working?

I have ABP and it wasn’t perfect but worked fairly well for my needs. Recently, it simply disappeared. (I see someone else said that could be from the latest iOS update, but I don’t have that on my desktop yet). When I tried to reinstall, it showed me two boxes to check. The way I read it, if you checked the box that said you wanted the icon visible in the toolbar, it would be able to read sensitive information of all kinds on any page. What good is an app of any kind that allows for that?! As it was, with only the one box checked, it only blocked very few ads, and I was still getting requests from sites to be whitelisted without being able to fnd any way to do it. I’ve got all kinds of garage showing up on my Facebook page, and you guys have ruined what was a reasonable product. WHY?

Still works for me

Almost didn’t download the new version based on the recent reviews, however after looking at the other apps here that claim to be ad blockers I didn’t’t see too many alternatives. I decided to go ahead and get the new version and so far its pretty much the same as the old version, lots of ads blocked. I’m happy, just make sure you go through the simple set-up.

Works well but

After much research, I understand the issue with Apple changing the rules on the devs so they had to build this app from scratch. Works well for me so far, except for one annoying problem. I use Yahoo mail and it's not hiding the ad that appears in the top line of the inbox even with unchecking the Acceptable Ads box, which is super annoying. I know the devs are watching these reviews, so if someone can point me to an extension or something that will fix that, I'd appreciate it. Was using AdGuard and it fixed that problem, but that app behaves like spyware and is constantly running in the background even after you close Safari.

Karp and Thiel have both described these controversial contracts using the language of “nation” and “civilization.” Confronted by critical journalistic coverage (Woodman 2017, Winston 2018, Ahmed 2018) and protests  (Burr 2017, Wiener 2017), as well as internal actions by concerned employees (MacMillan and Dwoskin, 2019), Thiel and Karp have doubled down, characterizing the company as “patriotic,” in contrast to its competitors. In an interview conducted at Davos in January 2019, Karp said that Silicon Valley companies that refuse to work with the US government are “borderline craven” (2019b). However, Karp has cultivated a very different public image from Thiel’s, supporting Hillary Clinton in 2016, saying that he would vote for any Democratic presidential candidate against Trump in 2020 (Chafkin 2019), and—most surprisingly—identifying himself as a Marxist or “neo-Marxist” (Waldman et al. 2018, Mac 2017, Greenberg 2013). He also refers to himself as a “socialist” (Chafkin 2019) and according to at least one journalist, regularly addresses his employees on Marxian thought (Greenberg 2013). On one level, Karp’s dissertation clarifies what he means by this: For a time, he engaged deeply with the work of several neo-Marxist thinkers affiliated with the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt. On another level, however, Karp’s dissertation invites further perplexity, because right wing movements, including Trump’s, evince special antipathy for precisely that tradition.

As a case study to demonstrate the usefulness of his modified concept of jargon, Karp takes up a notorious episode in post-wall German intellectual history: a speech that the celebrated novelist Martin Walser gave in October 1998, at St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt. The occasion was Walser’s acceptance of the 1998 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. The novelist had traveled a complex political itinerary by the late 1990s. Documents released in 2007 would uncover the fact that as a teenager, during the final years of the Second World War, Walser joined the Nazi Party and fought as a member of the Wehrmacht. But he first became publicly known as a left-wing writer. In the 1950s, Walser attended meetings of the informal but influential German writer’s association Gruppe 47 and received their annual literary prize for his short story, “Templones Ende”; in 1964 he attended the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials, where low ranking officials were charged and convicted for crimes that they had perpetrated during the Holocaust. In his 1965 essay about that experience, “Our Auschwitz,” Walser insisted on the collective responsibility of Germans for the horrors of the Nazi period; indeed he criticized the emphasis on spectacular cruelty at the trial, and in the media, to the extent that this emphasis allowed the public to maintain an imaginary distance between themselves and the Nazi past (Walser 2015, 217-56). Walser supported Social Democratic Party member Willy Brandt for Chancellor and even joined the German Communist Party during that decade. By the 1980s, however, Walser was widely perceived to have migrated back to the right. And when he gave his speech “Experiences Composing a Sermon” on the sixtieth anniversary of Kristallnacht, he used the occasion to attack the public culture of Holocaust remembrance. Walser described this culture as a “moral cudgel” or “bludgeon” (Moralkeule).

“Experiences Composing a Sermon” adopts a stream of consciousness, rather than argumentative, style in order to explain why Walser refused to do what he said was expected of him: to speak about the ugliness of German history. Instead, he argued that no further collective memorialization of the Holocaust was necessary. There was no such thing, he said, as collective or shared conscience at all: conscience should be a private matter. Critics and intellectuals he disparaged as “preachers” were “instrumentalizing” and “vulgarizing” memory, when they exhorted the public constantly to reflect on the crimes of the Nazi period. “There is probably such a thing as the banality of good,” Walser quipped, echoing Hannah Arendt (2015, 513). He did not spell out what ends he thought that these “preachers” aimed to instrumentalize German guilt for. He concluded by abruptly calling on the newly elected president Roman Herzog, who was in attendance, to free the former East German spy, Rainer Rupp, from prison. Walser’s speech received a standing ovation—though not, notably, from Ignatz Bubis, then the president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, who was also in attendance. The next day, in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Bubis called the speech an act of “intellectual arson” (geistiges Brandstiftung). The controversy that followed generated a huge amount of debate among German intellectuals and in the German and international media (Cohen 1998). Two months later, the offices of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung hosted a formal debate between the two men. It lasted for four hours. FAZ published a transcript of their conversation in a special supplement (Walser and Bubis 1999).

I asked at the beginning of this paper what beliefs Karp shares with Peter Thiel and what their common commitments might reveal about the self-consciously “contrarian” or “heterodox” network of actors that they inhabit. One answer that Aggression in the Life World makes evident is that both men regard the desire to commit violence as a constant, founding fact of human life. Both also believe that this drive expresses itself in social forms like language or group structure, even if speakers or group members remain unaware of their own motivations. These are ideas that Thiel attributes to the work of the eclectic French theorist René Girard, with whom he studied at Stanford, and whose theories of mimetic desire, scapegoating, and herd mentality he has often cited. In 2006 Thiel’s nonprofit foundation established an institute to promote the study of Girard and support the further development of mimetic theory; this organization, Imitatio, remains one of the foundation’s three major projects (Daub 2020, 97-112).

The text that Karp chose to analyze, as his case study, also shares a set of concerns with Thiel’s writings and statements against campus multiculturalism and political correctness; Walser’s speech became a touchstone of debates about historical memory in Germany, in which the newly imported Americanism politische Korrektheit circulated widely. In his dissertation, Karp does not celebrate Walser’s taboo speech in the same way that Thiel and his associates have sometimes celebrated violations of speech norms.[11] However, he does assert that jargon, and the unconscious aggression that it expresses, plays a role in the formation of all social groups, and refrains from evaluating whether Walser’s jargon was particularly problematic. Of course, the term “jargon” itself became a commonplace during the U. S. culture wars in the 1980s and 1990s, used to accuse academics and university administrators who purported to be speaking for vulnerable populations of in fact deploying obscure terms to aggrandize themselves. Thiel and his co-author David O. Sacks devote a chapter of The Diversity Myth to an account of how the vagueness of the word “multiculturalism” enabled activists and administrators at Stanford to use it in this manner (1995, 23-49). The idea that such terms express ressentiment and a will to power is consistent with the theoretical framework that Karp went on to develop.

My first blog and Introduction to Android Studio

Hello,

First, I would like to introduce myself to you, and once more time if you already know me 😊. My name is Nguyen Phan, but I prefer Andrew as my English name. I am an International Student currently taking the Information Technology (IT) program at The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). I’m writing this blog on Sunday, January 26, 2020. When you are reading this blog, it may be a few days, months or years after today (when I’m writing this). The reason for writing this blog is introducing about the technology I will use to build my own first project, which is Android Studio. Moreover, I will give a brief description of the project in later.  

Second, as I mentioned it above, Android Studio is the official Integrated Development Environment (IDE) built for Google’s Android Operating System or Android Platform or Android devices. The first version of its was released in December 2014. On January 26, 2020, the newest version is 3.5.3 available for download and install on all three operating system Windows, MacOS and Linux. Before the Android Studio was announced in May 2013 in I/O Google Conference, its predecessor was Eclipse software, an IDE used in computer programming language.

In Android Studio, there are two primary programming languages, they are Java and Kotlin. It’s very simple to understand why Java is one of primary languages. Android Studio is built and developed based on the JetBrains' IntelliJ IDEA software which is another IDE written in Java for developing computer software purpose. Personally, I intend and consider using Java to build my project. The second language is Kotlin. Its first appearance was in 2011. According to the new updates from Google on May 2019, Kotlin is now the official preferred language for Android application developers. Still, Google gives developers options to choose which language for programming in the newest version.

However, developers can also use C/C++ programming language to build their own project. Additionally, we will need to install the Native Development Kit (NDK) and CMake in order to use and compile C/C++. In detail, NDK or the Native Development Kit for the Android Platform is a set of tools allowing the developers to use the native library including the C/C++. CMake is an external build tool working along/side-by-side the Gradle in order to build the native library in Android Studio. This CMake tool is unnecessarily needed if you only want to use the NDK tool only. I would suggest installing both of them because you may need them in near the future. Moreover, you may want to consider LLDB which is used to debug the native code or C/C++. To install them, you can follow this link (https://developer.android.com/studio/projects/install-ndk.md) to learn how to install and configure NDK, CMake, and LLDB as well.

Finally, as I mentioned it above, I will give you a brief introduction about project that I am working on by using Android Studio. Firstly, my idea is creating group chat application, not like Facebook’s Messenger or WhatsApp. My group chat application is more private focusing on the internal operating system of a business. Thus, it is a private group chat application; and there is no advertise included in app. Also, it’s free. Second, there is no 1-to-1 conversation in this application. It will be only group chats between colleagues and colleagues where they can communicate about their jobs. Also, reducing the risk of leaking info is one of reasons that I want to build this application.

Un paio di settimane con Google Stadia

Il nuovo servizio di gioco in streaming di casa Google è stato per giorni sulla bocca di tutti e ora tutto tace, o quasi.

Questa direi che è la migliore occasione per scrivere qualche riga in merito al Google Stadia.

Iniziamo con una veloce cronologia degli eventi: 

6 Giugno 2019: Google annuncia Stadia

7 Giugno 2019: Io pre-ordino Stadia Founders Edition

19 Novembre 2019: Google lancia ufficialmente Stadia

21 Novembre 2019: Io ricevo Stadia Founders Edition

Come potete notare, ho dato estrema fiducia a Google per questo servizio, il motivo? Una delle esclusive di Google Stadia sarà a quanto pare Baldur’s Gate III, non è un motivo sufficiente? Per me si, rassegnatevi.

Per chi giungesse qui per caso, cosa è Google Stadia?

Lascio la parola a Wikipedia.

Tra le caratteristiche principali vi sono quelle di riprodurre i giochi in risoluzione 4K, l'integrazione con YouTube, la possibilità di giocare dal proprio browser Google Chrome.È il principale concorrente di PlayStation Now, Project xCloud di Microsoft e GeForce Now di Nvidia. E tu chi sei?

Ora che vi siete fatti un’idea di che roba sia questo servizio, contestualizziamo la mia posizione: il sottoscritto può essere definito un “casual gamer”, ovvero una persona a cui piacciono i videogiochi ma non spende tempo in modo costante con questi ultimi, per motivi di lavoro o altri impegni della sua vita. Adesso sapete a grandi linee che cosa sia il servizio Google Stadia e come io mi ponga all’interno del mondo dei videogiochi. Bene! Direi che avete gli ingredienti fondamentali per interpretare la mia posizione in merito a Google Stadia.

Quindi, cosa ne pensi?

Il mio primo pensiero è che Google ha dimostrato che il gioco in streaming è tecnologicamente possibile: da questo punto di vista Stadia è un successo.

Tuttavia, sebbene la tecnologia ci sia, questa non è necessariamente disponibile a tutti: per giocare decentemente ad una risoluzione coerente con lo standard minimo odierno (ovvero 1080p), è necessario avere una connessione molto stabile. Una delle accuse che vengono mosse è Google è che la banda minima indicata nelle caratteristiche del servizio non è veritiera: questa accusa è accettabile in parte.

Facendo riferimento al grafico ufficiale di Google, si evince che i requisiti minimi di banda per giocare a 1080p sono 20Mbps (Megabit per secondo). Bene, questa è la banda minima reale e disponibile che bisogna avere. Facciamo attenzione alle mie parole:

Questo significa che se avete una connessione ADSL con ampiezza di banda nominale di 20Mbps, molto probabilmente non riuscirete a giocare a 1080p; questo perché la banda nominale non è la vostra banda reale né tantomeno la vostra banda minima garantita (mi riferisco alle connessioni casalinghe).

Quindi si può dire che Google in qualche modo abbia fatto il furbetto nella gestione del marketing di Google Stadia, lasciando libera interpretazione a questi dati e quindi creando aspettative impossibili di soddisfare verso gli utenti meno tecnici.

Un altro problema di comunicazione è relativo al lancio del servizio: il 19 Novembre è stato rilasciato, di fatto, un accesso in anteprima al servizio. Quindi gli utenti che hanno comprato la Founders Edition (come il sottoscritto) o la Premiere Edition, hanno comprato l’accesso ad un servizio beta (o early-access, se preferite).

Anche in questo caso, la macchina di marketing di Google è stata, volutamente o meno, poco chiara. Il lancio reale del servizio corrisponderà, a mio parere, con il rilascio del livello di servizio gratuito.

Si ma, visto che hai pagato, il servizio come si comporta?

Bene. Con una connessione TIM Fibra 200Mbit (di cui io riesco a sfruttare 60Mbit reali), il servizio funziona senza problemi. Se poi utilizzate giochi di qualche anno fa, come Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, le prestazioni sono impressionanti: la reattività dei comandi è tale che non sembra di giocare in streaming.

L’esperienza migliora se utilizzate il controller ufficiale: il pad è direttamente collegato alla vostra Wi-Fi di casa e con i server di Google, quindi i comandi non subiscono l’intromissione di driver e altro, recuperando un minimo di latenza.

Utilizzate Chromecast Ultra: anche in questo caso, in questo momento garantisce l’esperienza ottimale. Google Chrome è un pachiderma che richiede comunque che il vostro PC riesca gestirlo e questo non è scontato su una macchina un po’ datata o su un PC da supermercato (per capirci, sotto i 500 euro).

Basta, dacci un giudizio!

E’ ancora troppo presto per sbilanciarmi con un giudizio: a mio avviso se ne potrà parlare quando Google inizierà a dare la possibilità di attivare gli account gratuiti.

In questo momento posso riassumere alcune considerazioni:

si può davvero giocare senza avere una console o un PC da gaming

se siete dei giocatori assidui, non fa al caso vostro in questo momento

se avete dei dubbi, aspettate Febbraio 2020 e la possibilità di creare un account gratuito

se siete dei casual gamer, 50/60 euro ogni 4/6 mesi per comprarvi un gioco potete anche spenderli, non lamentatevi

Cloud Gaming - E se non servisse una console per videogiocare?

Mentre il mercato dei videgiochi si prepara ad accogliere le nuove console targate Sony e Microsoft, mentre i due colossi sono pronti a scontrarsi nuovamente, gli "estranei" si preparano a varcare la barriera. Nel Marzo di quest'anno, durante la Game Developers Conference di San Francisco, Google ha annunciato il progetto Stadia , piattaforma di Cloud Gaming che nascerà con l'intento di fornire agli utenti accesso ai videogiochi supportati senza l'utilizzo di alcun hardware (console o pc), semplicemente utilizzando il browser Google Chrome. Ciò significa, non soltanto che non bisogna possedere una console fisica per usufruire del servizio, ma che qualsiasi dispositivo munito del browser targato Google è praticamente abilitato all'utilizzo di Stadia.

Sì, avete capito bene. L’azienda statunitense intende fare dei videogiochi ciò che Netflix (e tante altre piattaforme) ha fatto con i film e le serie tv, ciò che Spotify ha fatto con la musica. In fondo forse tutti c’abbiamo pensato almeno per un momento, ma alla fine a vincere è stata la convinzione che tali enormi moli di dati non potessero essere trattate allo stesso modo. Tutto questo è reso possibile grazie all'ampio utilizzo di server capaci di elaborare una quantità enorme di informazioni ogni secondo, che avranno l'importante scopo di ricevere gli input che il videogiocatore darà attraverso il suo joypad (che può essere qualsiasi!) e restituire il "risultato" di questi comandi. In poche parole, l'utilizzo di questi centri di elaborazione dati libererà i nostri dispositivi dalla necessità di possedere potenza di calcolo in locale.

Ma la cosa che più entusiasma i videogiocatori che seguono con interesse le vicende di Google Stadia è che a detta degli sviluppatori, questo trasferimento dati non inciderà sulla qualità dello streaming, permettendo a Stadia di non eguagliare, bensi di superare, in potenza Playstation 4 Pro e Xbox One X. Tutto ciò non è di certo passato inosservato in casa Sony, che ormai da anni lavora senza molti successi alla sua piattaforma streaming che ha però preso forma soltanto negli ultimi mesi (PS Now). Preoccupata di perdere il trono del mondo videoludico (e chissà se Google sia interessata proprio a questo) ha perciò deciso, inaspettatamente di annunciare la partnership con casa Microsoft, ma soltanto per quanto concerne il cloud gaming.

Non sappiamo ancora come si evolverà la vicenda, in che modo questa piattaforma potrà gestire i problemi derivanti dalla latenza o i costi eccessivi per i server, ma sappiamo oramai con certezza che qualcosa è pronta a stravolgere il mondo dei videogiochi, forse per sempre. Cloud is coming.
