The Dire Wolf In The White House

I could not resist drawing parallels between the resurrection of the dire wolf and the return of Donald Trump to power. Both things are equally foolish and dangerous. Thanks to Trump’s tariff policy we are in dire trouble globally. The dire wolf in the White House is hell bent on damaging the world economically in record time. The decision to genetically recreate a dire wolf from grey wolves seems to be symbolically on par with Trump’s global tariff policy – ‘all show and no go.’ Together, these are testament to the shallowness of America’s desperate desire to hang onto the appearance of hegemonic power amid its rapid decline.

Congress, on the GOP side, have abandoned their responsibilities to the American people. These self-serving careerist politicians are more concerned with keeping their well paid positions than standing up for the country. They have been emasculated by Trump and the MAGA forces. Congress is a joke in 2025. It is frightening to see how easily the American system has been gamed. Courage and fortitude are in short supply to put it mildly. It is a dire situation on Capitol Hill. Did you ever regret writing any of your fics and why??

Hmmmm... generally no? I have small regrets about several here and there, though.

I wouldn't have written my werewolf au if I'd known the implications of greywolves in Türkiye before starting it. I've discontinued it and the sequel I had planned will never get made because I've learned more about it now. Sorry, Deniz, you were accidentally politically inappropriate and thus never meant to be. I can't help past ignorance but I can learn for the future and be more aware going forward.

I wouldn't have written that fic where Fade and Deadlock hook up for several reasons. I still pretty frequently get people asking me to make more Nightlock content and I suspect that fic is part of the reason why. I got some pretty nasty messages for writing it behind the scenes, too, and also for personal reasons (nothing against anyone who ships it) I no longer enjoy that pairing and don't want to associate with it. I feel similarly about that one threesome fic and Fadeshockstorm in general.

Aside from these, my regrets on the whole are more about small aspects of fics. Most of my work is written from a really personal place and it has a point to make that's important to me at the time of writing. Party rock was an extremely personal fic about insecurity in a relationship and self-harming through sex, for example, so even though I had some pretty horrible drama related to that fic, I can't regret writing it. I had something to say and said it, and I'm proud of how it came out.

When it comes to things I regret, it tends to be wistful thinking and lessons I learned in the process of making something. I regret forgetting a scene I was excited about while working on freckle fic because I hadn't learned how to properly outline yet, for example, and I regret that the cowboy au finale feels a bit rushed. I think noticing mistakes in your work is an important, healthy part of the creative process, and I try not to dwell on it. Instead, I take what I've learned from each project and try to improve the quality of my work for the next thing I write, and I at least can notice a marked improvement from when I started this AO3 to now.
