So I decided to get the Body Shape product 'Fit Vanilla' to substitute my lunch.ĪDVERTISEMENT Bad move: Far from attracting would-be dieters to the brand in question (Body Shape Fit Vanilla), the former TOWIE star simply received negative remarks from her followers about the dangers of dieting while breastfeeding as she posted a picture of her sat at her kitchen table brandishing a milkshake bottle Contact us please!'Īmy, 26, was sure to lay the sales pitch on thick as she posted the photo, captioning it: 'OMG! I have such a busy lifestyle and don't have much time for a nutritious breakfast or lunch. Others were more distracted by the reality star's back garden, with one company posting: 'Hey Amy, your patio needs to be pressure washed.

Arlington, TX
Tumblr media
Wow!  We love Arlington!  After 7 years of traveling around the country, we found somewhere we would seriously consider moving to.  Besides the people being super nice and "mostly" polite drivers, there is EVERYTHING here.  Every store and restaurant, several hospitals, plenty of geocaches, an AMC 18, Six Flags, a big airport, Interstates and mild winters.  We stayed two months.  Early on we took a wrong turn out of Aldi's and turned around in the driveway of the cutest little red brick house.  Ever since then Arlington has been pulling at my heartstrings to settle down.  The only thing that's missing is Shorty!
Along with giant Wal-Marts, Sam's, WinCo and several Aldi's, here are some of the places where we ate and shopped:  CiCi's, Peter Piper Pizza, Canes, Panda Express, In & Out, Boston Market, Furr's Buffet, Spaghetti Warehouse, Taco Bueno, Taco Cabana (awesome nachos), Krispy Kreme (walking distance from KOA!), a new fav Chinese Harbor Buffet and a new fav Pancho's Mexican Buffet.  There are many new-to-us restaurants we didn't have a chance to try.  Shopping:  Fry's ($7 click belts), Trader's World flea market, Half Price Books, Dave & Busters (we had a groupon).  And all the usual chain stores.  There is a mall just a couple miles south of the KOA.  It has an arcade/bowling alley bigger than Dave & Busters that is open late.  I just went in to look around after a day at the theater; we didn't stay to play.
So the downside.  Just after we got here, we went to an Urgent Care because Corny's back was killing him.  They did a simple x-ray and diagnosed him with sciatica.  They gave him a few pain pills until we could get an appointment with a primary care doctor.  They gave him better pills.  He bought a Hurry Cane.  We used the wheelchair at Trader's World.  By the end of the two months in Arlington, he was much improved.
I got a new doctor I like but his med tech screwed up big time when she entered my Rx's into the computer.  It took two trips to Walgreens and a smart Pharmacist to get them straightened out.  I'm supposed to be back for an appointment in October, but we'll see how that goes...
One of our A/Cs was acting up (capacitor), the microwave quit on us, and we had to replace the kitchen faucet.  The RV turns 8 this year and we've talked about getting a new smaller class C RV.
Geocaching.  The whole reason for coming here was for GeoWoodstock in Fort Worth.  I drove separately on the way up from San Antonio and did a big county-run.

I/we went to events all week.  We went to the one DDD in Fort Worth - Fred's Texas Café.  It was very good, and very pricey.  There are a dozen DDD's in Dallas but we didn't make it to any.  There was a nice CITO (cache in/trash out) event by the river.  There was an 8pm-12am trading event where I traded pathtags and gave away a bunch of camo'ed pill bottles.  I saw the famous Stockyards and the traveling Geocaching Adventure Maze - a geocaching museum of sorts.

The actual GeoWoodstock was a bit less than I had expected.  It was all indoors in a big hall with a few tablers.  It paled in comparison to the GW at Coney Island in Cincinnati last year.  A big part of it was no more lab caches for me (until I break down and get a Smartphone).  Groundspeak made lab caches unavailable by computer this year.  I don't know if I'm repeating myself, but I tried using a Smartphone years ago for about 3 months and never swore so much in my life.  I just couldn't take it, trying to do computer stuff on a little 3" screen with little 3mm buttons for a keyboard.  I remember sitting at a Pizza Hut (in Oregon?) after eating and spending about a half hour trying to log in to their wi-fi and kvetching.  I just don't have the patience.

My vintage flip phone
Anyhow, I can't believe so much negativity crept into a blog about a place we loved!  Back to geocaching...
Shortly after we got to the KOA I rode my bike up the street a few miles to the oldest cache in Texas "Tombstone".  Texas geocachers sure do love their cemetery caches.  A new geo-art series was put out and many of the caches required a ladder.  Corny got me a spiffy, beautiful 12' aluminum telescoping ladder.
Tumblr media
We soon found out whoever placed the series must've had a 30' ladder, because even with an extending 10' pole, we couldn't reach some of them!  The ladder fits nicely in the back of the Jeep.  I took it on a 3 day county run skirting along the TX/OK border, into Arkansas and Louisianna.  I found great caching in Denton and Gainesville.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got home and wanted to go right back out on another trip - and started planning it... but it was Corny's turn.  He had an appointment with his Florida urologist for some imaging test.  He took a week and a half van trip and saw Shorty and some friends from Fay's RV Park.  The day after he left I signed up for a Six Flags membership, Dining Plan and drink refill bottle.  I went almost every day for lunch - turkey legs, tacos, tamales, Panda Express "Chop Six" and giant pretzels until Corny got back.
Tumblr media
The current plan is to stay in northern New Mexico for the summer (at an elevation around 7000') then southern AZ for the winter.  Corny will take another van trip to Vancouver to see some filming in July/August.  He got his passport renewed.  The van is in storage at Arlington.  All six of us (Corny, me, Dolly, Poco, Ruffles and Piggie) will take the Jeep back from NM to get it; then I will solo back to NM in the Jeep geocaching and visiting the Six Flags in Arlington and in Oklahoma City.  Yay!
For those of you keeping score, here are the movies I've seen on three visits to the AMC 18.  During one visit, it felt like my seat was shaking.  I changed seats, but still felt the shaking.  The theater is on the third floor of the mall.  I found out there were two tornadoes nearby!  Corny had packed everybody into the van and drove to the mall parking garage for a couple hours, listening to the radio and studying the atlas, learning all the cities and counties in Tornado Alley.
Penguins, Intruder, Poms, Curse of La Llorona, Breakthrough, Ugly Dolls, Avengers, Little, The Hustle, Pokemon Detective, Aladdin, A Dog's Journey, Booksmart, John Wick, Brightburn, Toy Story 4, Secret Life of Pets 2, Annabelle, Child's Play, MIB International, Other Side of Heaven, Midsommar.
Life is Godd! We fit out.

Essential Money Saving Tips
Here are the latest ways to save money. Hope you haven't bothered yet. Well, then we continue.
Food
Plan your meals in advance. If you take 1 hour and plan out your week’s menu, you will only buy the food that you actually need and save on all the food which is thrown away every week.
Always shop with a grocery list. The supermarket industry is masterful at getting you to buy things you really don’t need. Resist the impulse by planning your purchases in advance.
Shop on a full stomach and you will be less likely to buy things you don’t need.
Use local markets where food is often fresher and usually much cheaper than at your local supermarket.
If you do shop at the supermarkets, consider trying their own-brand products instead of your usual name-brand products. Most of the time you won’t be able to tell the difference and you will save a lot of money.
Learn to cook. Learning to cook from scratch with save you a fortune on ready-made meals.
Buy food in bulk; it’s way cheaper.
Use coupons – search online for coupons for any purchases or meals out.
Buy a bread maker or make your bread from scratch – cheaper and so much better than supermarket bread.
Eat less meat. Several nights a week eat beans, lentils, tofu and vegetables. There are lots of delicious vegetarian meals which will fill you up as they also fill up your purse.
Fruit which has gone a bit mushy is perfect in a smoothie – you can even freeze it and use it later.
Save your leftovers instead of binning them. Pop them in the freezer and enjoy another meal later.
Grow your own vegetables. Even a small vegetable patch can provide quite a lot of food and it tastes so much better!.
Get to know your butcher: he can suggest all kinds of cheaper cuts of meat and how to prepare them in ways that you will never know the difference.
Eat at home rather than going out.
If you do end up going out, go for breakfast or lunch which are always cheaper than dinner.
Don’t order wine in a restaurant – there is a huge mark-up; or try to find a restaurant which allows you to bring-your-own.
When you go to the grocery store, use a basket instead of a cart – you’ll buy less as a result.
Bring your own bags with you when shopping. You will only save a small amount each time but it adds up over the year.
Instead of boiling your vegetables until they are cooked, bring the water to a boil and then put a lid on the pot and turn the heat off. The steam and heat in the water will cook most vegetables.
Turn your oven off 10 to 20 minutes before the cooking time is finished and allow the built-up heat in the oven to do the work.
Personal Finance
Shop around for the best deal on your mortgage. Small savings on your interest rate can amount to large savings in cash.
Pay attention to the overall cost of the mortgage not just the interest. A slightly higher fee and lower interest may be a better deal overall.
If you can, overpay on your mortgage. This will result in a shorter duration of payments which will also save you a bundle on interest payments.
For poor credit borrowers, I also have something in a store, I hope you are not tired of reading. Pay off your credit cards each month – or switch the debt to a lower-interest card with resulting savings in interest payments.
Instead of spending Saturday kicking a ball around, nursing a hangover or wandering through the shops, do you have a skill which you could use to generate some more income? Whether you create something with your hands, teach or tutor someone in one of your hobbies, or write the next best-selling novel, you will be generating extra income.
Don’t let a screaming child rule your finances! Adults decide on purchases in supermarkets, not screaming children. Learn to say ‘no’ and save a fortune on sugary snacks and quickly-forgotten toys.
Take advantage of any tax-free savings vehicles available in your country. Many offer ways of saving for retirement which shelters the money from being taxed – meaning savings for you as you build your financial future. It’s foolish not to use what few breaks the government offers you.
Set up a direct deposit so money goes from your everyday account to a designated savings account each month. If it happens automatically, over time you won’t even notice it’s gone and you will adjust your spending habits accordingly.
Get tax advice: many people overpay on their taxes simply because they don’t know about things which they can claim, or rebates they are eligible for.
Get a cashback credit card which will pay you a percentage of your purchases back in cash. Even 1 or 2% over the year can add up to quite a lot.
Look for deals on Groupon-style sites like Spreets, Jump on It or Living Social.
Health
Cut back on one or two nights a week of drinking alcohol and not only will you save money but you might also lose weight. If you still want to go out, drink water.
Quit smoking. It’s a filthy, unhealthy habit and it costs you a fortune. Do your lungs and your bank balance favor and quit now.
Walk or ride a bike instead of driving to work. You can flatten your waistline while you pad our your wallet.
Cancel your gym membership. Take up running. Do push-ups and sit-ups. You’ll be fit as a fiddle and financially prudent.

Skip the experience and go straight to the gifts for mom.
We celebrate dog moms, too!
Brunch like Royalty
On May 11 and 12 at 12 noon sharp, a Scarborough Faire Mother's Day Brunch is offered to mothers and families at the Crown Pavilion to kick off her special day. Over the admission price, each adult is $20 and children are $10. They offer a full brunch buffet with mimosas, coffee and tea. The King and members of his royal court will stop by to honor the mothers.
Brunch on a Boat
Take a drifty two-hour cruise by gondola on Lake Carolyn in Irving! With dessert, brunch, dinner and no-food cruises available, it's a nice time to be on the water with just the two three of you. A few other boaty options at the link, too.
...On Lake Lewisville
Arispop runs cruises year-round, but on Sunday, May 12, you can choose from a day cruise with a brunch, or an evening, CHILD-FREE dinner cruise. Ooo how would you choose? With music and activities, and a rose for mom, you can't go wrong. Or for you land lubbers, Sneaky Pete's is putting on a fab brunch for moms for $33 adults, and they've got indoor/outdoor seating, with a pier bar that gets full service, too.
... On Lake Ray Hubbard
Harbor Lights Cruises are doing it up in the morning and in the evening on Mother's Day. Live music with Caribbean steel drums. About two hours for each cruise, $65 and up.

It's a miracle our moms let us live to become adults.
Find local fun stuff with great deals on Groupon (aff) to get the lucky lady in your life a spa experience, massage, salon trip, fitness, food, personalized gifts, and more—all in her own neighborhood.

Lavish brunches we love
These are the kinds of brunches that go vast and deep. The Ranch does them rarely but we hear they do it up right. We've been to the Warwick one for Easter and there was food tucked into every part of the first floor - fresh gourmet dishes of all kinds.
Warwick Melrose at the Landmark Restaurant in uptown Dallas. We can vouch for the luxurious and delicious options. The huge cold cocktail shrimp, the bloody mary bar, omelet station,  carving station, fruit and cheese bar and desserts galore. It's my personal favorite special occasion brunch, hands-down. $70 for adults.
Who knew The Colony could rock so hard?? Taking their smorgasbord brunch to the next level, Lava Cantina is going all out for moms Sunday, May 12 from 11a - 2p. Adults are only $25, kid $10. See the whole menu here.
The Ranch in Irving — 9:30am until 3 pm

From 2-4 pm on Saturday, May 11, sign up for the High Tea—wave your pinky in the air like you just don't care! They say it sells out fast. $45 adults, $35 each child. RSVP required.
...And in the evening, visit FWBG for the Lanterns in the Garden, $18 per person.
Dallas Zoo Safari Nights
While not an "official" Mothers Day event, this is a Friday evening date night opportunity at the Zoo that's included with admission. 6 to 9 pm that includes DinoSOAR. More details here.

We share a lot about staying healthy while traveling and keeping the kids’s learning wherever we are, and that’s because we know how important it is and because we love to give out free advice. 😉 Well here’s another helping of advice that’s extremely useful, both for parents and for those who might have to watch over somebody else’s kids at home or on the road. Keeping kids healthy involves everything from ensuring they have proper nutrition to maintaining a clean home environment.
As part of our partnership with Know Your OTCs, we’re sharing our top five tips for keeping kids healthy, particularly when traveling.  Also, take note of some of the retro advice that we call out, as it’s nice to check what you know vs what’s actually doctor recommended.
Top Tips for Keeping Kids Healthy While Traveling
To get it started, take a sec to watch this fun video we were a part of for sharing tips and recommendations for ensure kids stay healthy and safe in the sun and more.
Tip 1:  physical activity does a world of good
It doesn’t take much to make your body feel better when you wake up a bit sore or when you think you’ve been sitting too long on an airplane.  Physical activity gets the blood moving and helps your body recover by moving vitamins and nutrients where it’s needed. The same goes for kids’ bodies. Keeping kids healthy while traveling starts with keeping them moving.
In addition to the benefit of good circulation, keeping kids physically active teaches them good, healthy habits that with sustain them and keep them physically fit all life long. This doesn’t mean that you take you nephews on a trip with you and then figure out where they can do Cross-fit for Kids, but it’s ensuring that when you’re the adult in charge that you don’t just plop the kids in front of a screen. They’ll have their whole live for that.
Easy activities to keep kids healthy and active when traveling
Plan time outside – going for walks or to the park is easy, doesn’t cost anything and can happen nearly anywhere.  We love visiting National Parks and historic places.
Go for a hike – you don’t have to climb Kilimanjaro with kids to teach them the value of a nice hike; mild, easy hikes are great to inspire future hiking habits. Check out great Washington state hikes with kids.
Biking – most kids love it and most destinations have cheap and easy bike rental options; if a child is too small for biking or doesn’t know how yet, child carriers and double bikes are often available.  We love biking in the Golden Isles of Georgia or Seattle.
Paddling – watch for Groupons and other travel deals for where you’re heading to score inexpensive kayak rentals that are great exercise for any age.  Kayaking in Florida and around Washington is fun and available nearly everywhere.
Taylor Family Kayaking in Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo Obispo County, CA
Tip 2:  proper sleep has big benefits
Whenever we travel without our kids we always are sure to give clear but flexible instructions around sleeping schedules.  We know what they need and how they behave when we through their regular sleep times out the window, so communicating that with whomever is watching over the kids is very important.  Example: kids go to auntie’s how for the weekend and stay up until 10pm and the youngest skips naps, two days after we’re all together again we still have cranky kids, worn out kids susceptible to getting sick more easily.
Retro advice:  kids don’t need naps after they’re two or three.
Actual advice:  you know your kids’ needs and what they can handle and still remain healthy and human; share those needs with their caregiver or if you’re traveling with your kids, keep in mind what you know is good for them.  If you know your kids need naps or just downtime in general to stay happy and healthy, build that into your travel schedule.
Tip 3:  sunscreen even on the gray days
Traveling or at home, sunscreen is something we’re sure to use for keeping kids healthy.  We know that there is a lot of value to getting sunshine, particularly in teaching young bodies how to produce Vitamin D, but we also know that too much sun exposure can both cause sunburns and make kids physically ill.
We are careful about using sunblock with the kids in a few different ways.
We want our kids to be protected from sunburns, particularly when we travel to tropical locations where the sun is extra intense
We only use reef-safe/fish safe sunblocks because we need to be thoughtful about the impact we have on the world
We apply sunscreen on warm gray days too; overcast skies sometimes produce some of the most intense and unexpected sunburns.
We don’t use TOO MUCH sunblock on the kids or TOO HARSH of products; they still need to get sun for healthy Vitamin D production and we don’t want to coat our children in chemicals. No thank you.
We’re not doctors, so we’re going to refer you to your own pediatrician for advice around how much time in the sun is good for keeping kids healthy. Like with anything, researching on the internet can be helpful, but when you have a live resource who you know and trust, like a family doctor, they can be the most help.
Retro advice: block that sun; lather kids up and don’t let them get too tan.
Actual advice: using a gentle, environmentally responsible sunblock in moderation helps to protect kids’ skin as well as allow them to benefit from natural sunlight.
Tip 4:  follow instructions for medications and remedies
Most kids don’t need to be taking medications on the regular, but there are times when a cold or allergies sneak up on them and you choose to give them a remedy or over-the-counter drug (OTC), or even if they become ill and the doctor prescribes something for them and you’ve been instructed to see the medication through to completion. Whenever you are using a medication or remedy, with yourself or your children, always follow the dosing instructions provided. And this may seem odd to call out, but use the measurement tool provided with children’s medications. You don’t want to just eye it when you’re giving your child something to help them feel better.
Retro advice:  using a kitchen spoon is fine for dosing cough syrup and such.
Actual advice:  pay attention to the clearly written dosage on any medication or remedy and use the tool provided; some are listed in mililiters (mL) and some in ounces (oz).
And don’t be afraid to remind the babysitter or grandparent of this too. Even though it is logical to follow instructions, some people have their own ideas of what works. FYI, this goes for vitamins too.  FYI, gummy vitamins aren’t a treat and they DO HAVE dosing instructions to make sure kids don’t get too much and become ill.
Tip 5:  good hygiene has lasting effects
Keeping kids healthy is as easy as good hygiene.  We travel a ton, A TON, with the kids and whenever we’re in airports, train stations, theme parks, National Parks, restaurants, ferry terminals, elevators, forts, museums… we always make certain that they’re washing they’re hands and not touching their faces. This goes back to our article on flu prevention while traveling. Keeping clean keeps kids healthy.
This also goes for teaching young kids to be sanitary/hygienic. This one falls more to parents or primary caregivers than to babysitters or the random friend who watches your kids for the night so you can have a nice dinner in a new city (always do that). Teaching kids to mind their bums and wash themselves well when bathing is very important. We’ve all known or been around the stinky kid in school and often it came down to them not bathing well or wearing clean clothes, and sadly that kid was probably made fun of and didn’t have a good sense of self esteem or positivity. Outfit your kids with the skills to take care of themselves personally and they’ll grow up to be healthy, happy, confident individuals who in turn with raise their own little healthy kids.
Retro advice: kids will be kids and they’ll make fun of other kids for one thing if it’s not another.
Actual advice:  teach your kids self-care and how to be a part of society so they can have a positive impact on others, starting with teaching them to take pride in themselves. It’s true that you can’t control other children and how they might hurt your own kids’ feelings, but setting your children up for success as best as possible is a step toward keeping kids healthy into adulthood, both mentally and physically.
Whether you’re taking care of your own or watching over somebody else’s children, keeping kids healthy is easy and shows them just how much you care and love them.  The tips above apply to traveling with kids just as much as being home with them or leaving them with a trusted friend or family member. Being active, getting sleep, being mindful of the sun, using medications as directed, and proper hygiene are simple and effective ways to keep kids healthy (and yourself too!).
Want to pin this for later when you need leave your kids with a sitter, or when you know you’ll be watching somebody else’s children? Go for it!  Parenting and childcare is hard enough, so good and simple advice can go a long way in making it easier. 🙂
Keeping kids healthy while traveling (and at home too!) We share a lot about staying healthy while traveling and keeping the kids’s learning wherever we are, and that’s because we know how important it is and because we love to give out free advice.

Groupon
We appreciate Groupon simply for its existence! Although, Mom’s Cafe Blog is not an affiliate of this site, we still love them and use them HABITUALLY! Finding new things isn’t as easy as it seems. After you’ve sung the “Daddy Finger” song a million times, colored outside the same lines, and read the same stories to the point of memory…you and your littles, just need something else. I am often searching Groupon for activities, for a discount price…hence the name! Whether it is roller skating, or painting classes Groupon is perfect for finding what’s in your area!
This past school break my daughter and I experienced a different activity each day of the week-long break on some awesome steals ! We went bowling (3 games for $10), and the bowling alley was not even 10 minutes away with traffic lights! I couldn’t believe that deal myself! We had a great day and it cost close to nothing. We even found some meal deals for an afternoon lunch. Definitely gets rid of the cabin fever!
Craft Day at Home
Sometimes it’s easier on us mamas, if we just hang out with the kiddies at home and that is A-OK. Crafting at home is a great activity that your kids will forever remember. You can plant at home, make bird houses…or my daughters favorite…make slime ! You can choose the craft or brainstorm with your littles on the options. You choose the time and the level of mess mama…although making a big mess is more fun! Visit your local art supply store or check out what can come straight to your door on amazon. Here are two cute amazon craft options :
Build & Paint a Birdhouse
Make your own Terrarium
Movies Out or Movies IN
Catch a matinee! Early movie showtimes at the theater, often are easier on the pockets, than prime time. Even if the theaters aren’t showing anything you or your little’s fancy, curl up and have a family movie night at home ! Make it an event mama ! Be themed if you want to…pajamas, Disney characters…just have it all in fun!
Playdates
This may be a tough one to organize but if you know of any other mamas looking for something to do with/for their children to do, connect with them and see if it is possible for a mommy-kiddie play date ! This gives moms a slight break on entertaining the young ones, as they tend to entertain themselves together. You can even double it…pick a groupon activity for the kids to participate in together. My daughter and her bff will be painting pottery soon!
Visit the Local Library
Visiting your local library is free…you get fresh new stories to take home…can spend a few hours outside of the house, and more often than not, the local library hosts plenty of events for children at little or no cost. Register your child(ren) for one of the free activities there ! They may even have something mom can participate in too!
  Camp
If you are looking to give your child something to do that is out of the ordinary, check out some Camps ! The misconception of the word “camp” to most parents…at least to yours truly…in the beginning, was that these are programs geared during one season only. It was kind of…a don’t know until you know…topic for me, but camps are not just for the summer. Often times, aside from your local daycare and recreation centers, there are facilities and organizations that offer programs for your child to participate in, particularly during scheduled school breaks. Perfect also if a “Spring Break” from work isn’t doable this time around.
I discovered these camps when I became fed up with paying daycare prices for little return. Don’t get me wrong mom, daycare is great and serves its purpose. Plus it provides a great social experience for the kiddies, however for a tirrrrreeeedddd working momma, I wanted to see a little bit more out of the hundreds of dollars spent for my daughter than the same routine day-in and day-out, now that she is a bit older. She was not learning a skill or a hobby, she had already passed their curriculum level…she was just there bored all day long until I picked her up in the evenings after work. I wanted a change and I could see, so did she. So I began googling.
No one told me about these programs…and as a new mommy I found out on my own.
Now while it is not commonly known (so I thought), these programs often begin enrolling around the first half of the school year (September-ish)…on a first come-first serve basis for winter break and the second half of the year (January-ish) for the spring programs. (All relative to their own specific guidelines.) There may be extended enrollment periods, or acceptance closer to spring break, but once they’re full, THEY ARE FULL…and by the looks of how quickly camp slots filled EVERYONE knew about them EXCEPT  me!!
I now have these programs on my Mama Radar, and I plan accordingly.
Here’s where to look:
Local Museums: Art, Science, History etc…
Local Aquariums & Zoos: For the aspiring veterinarian or marine biologist the local zoo or aquarium may offer a week long program to the young ones to learn all they can about the animals they house and how to care for them
Local Dance Schools: Dance schools often offer dance camps for certain hours throughout the day…if it fits your schedule go for it ! Your child has fun + learns a skill
Local Theatres: Theatres (stage) also offer Drama Camps and acting classes…improv etc…during these school breaks. If you’re child is into the arts it may be a perfect fit for their passion !
Stop by, give a call or just browse the website for information on any camp offerings. Don’t think it’s too late momma…there may still be availability !
If your children are a bit older, there are even camps that will give them school credit or some sort of incentive for completion (good for H.S. and college prep)…subject specific. Your child’s school guidance office may have sign-up sheets for these programs and further information readily available.
What do you have planned for the little one’s this spring? Do you have a large age-range (if more than one child) ? How do you keep your children occupied? Share your #momstory! We’d love to hear from you.

Miscarriage: 8 Things You Can Do To Help
Here are 8 ways you can support someone experiencing a miscarriage. No crystal ball or mind-reading required.
In the wake of my recent miscarriage, it occurred to me how much more resilient I am since we lost our first pregnancy almost five years ago.
In 2012, I didn’t have the coping mechanisms I do now. I also didn’t know I had endometriosis, an inflammatory women’s disease, which explains why it’s been so hard to get pregnant and why my periods so often feel like I’m passing a bag of nails. It’s been a wild ride to say the least.
These days, I am incredibly grateful to have a small village* of people supporting me and my husband. After adopting an anti-inflammatory diet (bye bye gluten and dairy) my periods are pretty non-eventful (hello living)! But, even with a huge support network, it was terribly difficult to ask for help when I needed it during my miscarriage, especially when I was in so much physical and emotional pain.
When asked, “Do you need anything?”, my grief was too all-encompassing to say yes. It wasn’t that I didn’t want help. It wasn’t that I didn’t need help. But how could I possibly ask for what I needed when I could barely speak? After all, we’d been trying for FIVE YEARS.
Now that the pain of my miscarriage has lessened a bit, I decided to write a short list of things I would have appreciated when I was really down and out.
And because very few of us are mind-readers, I hope this list will help you help someone you love (trust me, if you do even ONE of these, she’ll think you’re full of magic and a pretty damn good human).**
1. COOK A MEAL (OR TWO)
Consider delivering groceries, takeout, a home-cooked meal or snacks. When your whole body aches you don’t have the strength to go to the store, let alone prepare a meal. Personally, I didn’t want to go to restaurants because I was prone to unpredictable fits of crying. Pressed for ideas, I emailed my naturopath who told me to concentrate on bone broth, soups, and stews (things that are gentle on the stomach) as well as iron-rich foods. I found this recipe for Bok Choy Miso Soup online and both my husband and I really liked it. Does she like chocolate? I’d never turn away Double Chocolate Zucchini Muffins, especially if they’re made with extra-dark Guittard chocolate chips (just sayin’)! And, even though beggars can’t be choosers, as a person with dietary restrictions I always appreciate when people ask me what I can and can’t eat.
2. TAKE THE KIDS (OR DOGS)
Miscarriage is a physically exhaustive process now matter what. But depending on how far along her pregnancy was, she may have also had surgery which is some next level sh*t. Needless to say, she needs sleep. Lots of it.  Schedule a time to babysit her kid(s) or take her dog(s) for a few hours so she can get some rest. I guarantee she will be grateful.
3. MOVE TOGETHER
My acupuncturist suggested a light hike or slow jog would speed the healing process. At first, I didn’t think I had the energy for it. But once I got going I discovered light exercise helped me feel better mentally and physically. Gentle yoga felt wonderful, too. Suggest something. No matter what, I guarantee she will appreciate the company.
4. LAUGH TOGETHER
Laughter really can be the best medicine, so if she feels up for it, treat her to a hilarious movie in the theater or binge-watch reruns of Broad City at her place (don’t forget the popcorn and gummi bears)!
5. CLOTHE HER IN COMFORT
To this day when I wear the pajamas and socks my mother-in-law gave me after my first miscarriage (and later D&C) I am reminded of her kindness. Soft drawstring waists felt wonderful to my sore belly (my jeans felt like a corset)! If you’re not sure where to look for lounge pants and jammies, check out Gilligan and O'Malley at Target. They don’t last forever but they sure are comfortable!
6. GIVE HER WARMTH
Creature comforts really brought me peace in the days following my pregnancy loss.  Consider gifting her some items for her self-care toolkit such as a heating pad and natural bubble bath (my favorite is this one) topped off with a new book or novel you think she’d like.
7. TREAT HER TO A MASSAGE
My whole body ached for weeks after my miscarriage, so when my doctor suggested a massage, I went for it. Since massages are often expensive, you might look on Groupon or Google ‘massage deals’ in your area. Or, you could go in on a gift with girlfriends.
8. DON’T BE A GHOST
As many as 20–25% of recognized pregnancies end in a miscarriage, which is a staggeringly large number. If you know someone who lost their baby, ask how she is doing. When she crosses your mind, reach out. Mail a heartfelt note. Send a quick text. Experiencing a miscarriage can be very isolating, especially if she is seeing pregnant bellies at the grocery store and strollers in her neighborhood. Bring up her loss. Say her baby’s name. And if she brings up her loss, please don’t change the subject. Just listen. You don’t need to offer solutions.
There is no finite end to grief. For me, it evolves, recedes and resurfaces. After my first miscarriage, I was a train wreck on Henry’s due date. Mother’s Day was (and is) the worst. Even my birthday is tinged with sadness because every year I am closer to being physically unable to conceive or carry a child.
Though I lead a full and very happy life, I carry my grief with me every day. I haven’t forgotten our babies for a moment. There is no way someone could “remind” me of my sadness. It is here with every breath I take.
There is no dark without light. There is no sadness without happiness. And in that, I take comfort.
- - - - - - -
PLEASE share this blog post! Miscarriage shouldn’t be a taboo subject. It’s real, it’s heartbreaking, and it happens to more women than you think.
*namely, my beloved husband, family, and friends, plus a team of badass health care professionals including my compassionate therapist, acupuncturist, hypnotherapist and naturopath who’ve taught me that self-care is a necessity. If we are to be loving and compassionate with others we must begin with ourselves.
**Though this list is geared towards miscarriage specifically, these ideas could work for any life-changing event, such as a new cancer diagnosis, or a sudden death of a friend or family member.
***Please skip the unhelpful platitudes such as “everything happens for a reason”. Sometimes, things don’t happen for a reason. Sometimes, life just sucks. Hard. Same goes for “Just relax!” and, “Have you considered adoption?”. Even with the best of intentions, these phrases can do more harm than good.

Here are some fun activity ideas…(and places to look) to help mommas everywhere get through Spring Break !
