Discovering or understanding these mechanics, however, is a complex task due to the inherently subjective, experiential, and often non-empirical nature of these practices. So how do we find them? 

Definitions:

Magic:

The practice of influencing oneself, others, or the environment through rituals, symbols, gestures, energies, spirits, and spoken or written words. These practices to tap into unseen forces or energies. Magic is a means to manifest change, guided by the will and intent of the practitioner.

Theory:

The set of ideas, principles, philosophies, mechanics, and logic systems that explain how and why magic works, which is verified through multiple means including: experimentation, reproduction, peer review, and divination. It encompasses various conceptual frameworks that practitioners use to understand the nature of magic, its relationship with the practitioner, and its interaction with the world. Magical theory often includes discussions on the nature of energy, the power of intention, the symbolism of magical tools, and the structure of rituals.

Mechanics:

Specific methods, processes, or techniques used in magical practices. This can include the steps of casting a spell, the use of specific tools or ingredients, the timing of magical workings (such as phases of the moon), and the physical actions or words used. The mechanics are the practical aspects that make the theory of magic operational.

Models of Magic:

Frameworks or paradigms through which magical practice is understood and explained. Examples include the psychological model (viewing magic as a means of influencing the unconscious mind), the energy model (seeing magic as manipulation of energies), and the spirit model (interpreting magic as interaction with spiritual entities). Mechanics

The mechanics of magic, a subject in which, historically, information has been intentionally obscured. Time and Date: The timing of a magical experiment can be a critical variable. This includes not only the time of day but also the date, which might encompass considerations of lunar phases, astrological conditions, and specific days of spiritual or cultural significance. Different times and dates are believed to hold different energies and can be more or less conducive to certain types of magical work.

Weather Conditions: Weather can play a significant role in magical practices. Elements like rain, wind, thunderstorms, or sunshine can influence the energy of the environment and, in turn, the experiment. For example, a spell for growth or fertility might be more potent during a gentle rain, while a banishing spell might be more effective on a windy day.

Emotional and Psychological State: The emotional and psychological state of the practitioner(s) is an essential external variable. Feelings of stress, excitement, calmness, or anger can influence the practitioner's energy and focus. The mental and emotional preparedness of the person conducting the experiment can greatly impact the effectiveness of the magical working.

Presence of Others: The presence and energy of other people, animals, or even plants in or near the experimental space can affect the outcome. This could be due to their physical presence alone or their emotional and psychic energies. For instance, performing a ritual in a secluded area might yield different results compared to conducting the same ritual in a crowded public space.

Measuring and Observing While Avoiding Bias

Carefully observe and measure the outcomes of the spell, striving to remain objective. Employ techniques to avoid bias, such as waiting to interpret results until after the spell has completed its course, or using blind or double-blind methods if applicable.

Acknowledging Limitations

Be aware of and openly acknowledge the limitations of your method. This could include the subjective nature of the experience, the influence of personal belief, or external variables that cannot be controlled.

Peer Reviews

If possible, share your findings with other practitioners for peer review. This can provide valuable feedback and insights, helping to validate or refine your approach. Peer reviews can be informal, through discussions with fellow practitioners, or more formal, such as presenting your findings in a community forum or publication.

Using Theories of Mechanics to Dissuade Misinformation

The goal is to align common magical practices with the underlying mechanics as described by various theories. This involves examining popular rituals, spells, or techniques and assessing how they align with, or diverge from, the theoretical frameworks of magic. For instance, a common practice might be the casting of a protection spell. By analyzing this through the lens of different models - like the energetic model or the psychological model - one can discern whether the practice is consistent with the theoretical mechanics proposed by these models. This exercise helps in demystifying practices, clarifying their basis, and possibly dispelling misconceptions.

This involves a respectful and careful examination of traditional and indigenous magical practices through the frameworks of established magical theories. It's crucial to approach this comparison with cultural sensitivity and an understanding that indigenous practices may have their unique theoretical underpinnings that don't always align neatly with Western magical models. uhh more shiro theory stuff?

im tired its late but okay.... this could easily be me missing dialogue or something because i was crying all throughout season 3, or it could just be a plothole because they didnt wanna give away where shiro was by having lotor mention him but

lotor literally knows nothing about the paladins. literally,, nothing. The first time he interacts with them he’s just studying them, and he notes the paladins are not at they're best and they can’t form voltron. From the sounds of it, Lotor has 0 idea what’s going on w/ voltron’s situation. He’s the kind of guy that would purposefully stab at their weaknesses, which he clearly doesnt know yet, and is why he’s studying them.

like?? i know lotor and his fam arent on good terms. theres some civil war shit going on w/ the galera. But like, if Lotor was really studying the paladins wouldn’t he know that they have Shiro? I mean capturing Shiro is a pretty big deal- he’s the black freakin paladin !!! Lotor should know they have him !!! He should’ve went “hmm wheres the freak that killed my dad! oh we got him? cool” But he never does. lotor knows literally nothing dude . he never brings up having the black paladin once, and clearly he doesnt know Shiro is missing, as he shows in scenes where he’s surprised that the paladins can’t form voltron and arent working together very well.

i think my only explanation is the Kuron theory.. Maybe the Galera don’t even have Shiro? He’s hanging out with matt or something, but he’s not with the galera. It wouldn’t make much sense why he’d be with the galera, anyways. 

The Galera having a clone of Shiro and Lotor not knowing about that makes a lot more sense to me lol, cloning Shiro probably isnt as big of a deal as capturing the man, the myth, the legend himself . Lotor wouldnt have any reason to invest his time into studying a stinky clone .

Introduction

Regardless of the type of working, all spellwork follows the same basic principles. These principles, when thoroughly understood, can be used to increase the effectiveness of a spell. While knowing and applying this concept isn’t necessary, it can be greatly beneficial. Since it is the basic underlying property of spell design, all spellwork will utilize it regardless. 

{Note: STEM concepts are not necessary for magical practices, but using them can be invaluable.}

Nodes

Commonly referred to as correspondences, nodes are bits of information that tie objects, people, spirits, concepts, places, thoughts, feelings, and emotions together in order to create a desired effect. Each node is connected, at least subconsciously, by further bits of information. It can be helpful to think of these connections as a web or a woven cloth. It is because of this that creating your own correspondences is completely valid and functional. Nodes can also be constructed solely of mindsets and concepts. This type of working allows for the means of casting without anyone noticing. Especially when combined with gesture magic and/or energy work.

Thresholds

Thresholds are the foundations of spell work. Whenever Nodes come into contact with one another, it always results in a threshold. It is essentially the doorway through which a spell is projected. When a spell is constructed and cast, the threshold opens and passion projects the spell through it. The more nodes that make up a threshold, the more specific the results will be. However, bogging yourself down with a plethora of nodes could hinder your headspace. There is a balance between simplicity and complexity that is the most efficient. Finding this balance is something that is best understood through experience.

Statistical Dimensions

Whenever a new set of potential variables is added to a sample, the multitude of possible results expands exponentially. When casting spells, the more variables involved in the casting and goal lower the probability of it succeeding. I typically refer to this concept as the path of least resistance. Statistical dimensions can be controlled by creating networks and connections between each component of a working. They can also be controlled by choosing a goal that can happen within circumstances that have the least amount of variables. It is so important to try to avoid higher dimensional situations, which means that the number of dimensions are staggeringly high — so high that calculations, estimations, deductions, and inductions become extremely difficult. With high dimensional data, the number of features can exceed the number of observations. For each spell circumstances should be carefully considered. There will always be unknown variables like environmental happenings, intersocial happenings, seemingly random events, etc. It is best to try to minimize the number of possible unknowns when constructing a spell. One can use statistics and neural network structures to prepare for unknown variables. Actual math isn’t necessarily required to do this. A solid conceptualization can also work. One way would be through adaptive control, which is “the control method used by a controller which must adapt to a controlled system with parameters which vary, or are initially uncertain.”** Another method is estimation theory, which is “a branch of statistics that deals with estimating the values of parameters based on measured empirical data that has a random component. The parameters describe an underlying physical setting in such a way that their value affects the distribution of the measured data. An estimator attempts to approximate the unknown parameters using the measurements. In estimation theory, two approaches are generally considered:

The probabilistic approach assumes that the measured data is random with probability distribution dependent on the parameters of interest

The set-membership approach assumes that the measured data vector belongs to a set which depends on the parameter vector.”***

Sympathetic Magic

Whenever objects, herbs, tools, colors, etc. are used in a spell, the spell is considered a sympathetic spell. The nodes are constructed from associations rather than direct connections. Sympathetic spells have higher statistical dimensions because circumstances cannot be directly observed, and thus one has to account for much more unknown variables. Oftentimes sympathetic magic can be incorporated into direct magic, or non-sympathetic magic, in order to develop a more thorough threshold. Pure sympathetic magic requires a taglock and an anchor for a working. Whether it be hair, photo, candle, or crystal, the spell will have to be bound to associated items. Sympathetic magics are best used for protective or warding spells, while direct magic is best for curses, cleansing, grounding, or cursing. 

Non-Sympathetic Magic

Anytime a spell is cast directly onto a target that is within line of site or within one’s energetic awareness, the circumstances in which the spell must maneuver are, for the most part, observable. Non-sympathetic magic is easiest to do via energy work or gesture magic, as they are less conspicuous. Binding spells directly to a person’s subtle body allows for the manifestation of the working to be evoked from the inside outwards, rather than the outside inwards. Working directly with that target allows for substantially more control over the spell and its outcome. Direct magic can be used to ward as well if you are in the space and working with it directly. The more familiar with the space/target you are, the more effective direct magic will be.   

Sustaining Thresholds

Thresholds are only as lasting as the caster’s headspace and focus. As a practitioner loses focus, the threshold will start to break down. While a threshold is typically sustained by the practitioner throughout a working, they can also be crystalized and anchored to an object that can sustain them. However, the medium that is used to anchor it will affect how long it can be sustained. To read further on mediums for anchoring, check out my article on anchors linked above. While a threshold is anchored it is best to hold the object while casting, entering into the proper headspace. If the practitioner has a solid grasp on energy work and the energetic senses, then they need not interact directly with the anchor to use the threshold. 

Self-Modifying Thresholds

When creating a complicated threshold that accounts for a large number of circumstantial variations, it may be best to actually create a thoughtform that embodies the spell. This thoughtform must contain as many logical processes as possible so that it has the tools to adapt as the situation changes. Thoughtforms do require being physically anchored in order to be sustained, and their binding should allow for them to stray from the anchor as needed. When creating a thoughtform-bound spell, it is important to have a way to banish it on standby.

Magical Experiment #1

This experiment revolves around energy work and the language that is used to describe it. I have compiled a list of terminology and correlating properties that will be tested against the views and experience of the subjects. There will be two controls for this experiment: physical properties & the completion of a survey by a non-practitioner.

What does the experiment look like?

Applicants are selected at random, or at least as random as possible.

Selected applicants will be sent an invitation to a private discord server where they will find a list of items to obtain, if possible.

Once all obtainable items are in hand, the applicants will take a survey about each item’s energetic properties. This survey will be in multiple stages, each with multiple choice answers and short text responses.

Each applicants responses will be compiled and compared before being posted publicly, while keeping them anonymous, along side the results. The final results won’t be posted publicly until three rounds of applicants are completed.

Qualifications for success:

Answers align within an 80% margin.

Answers that align correlate with assign values for each item.
