His Majesty The King’s address to the Nation and the Commonwealth

I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow.  Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved Mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.  Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.  

Alongside the personal grief that all my family are feeling, we also share with so many of you in the United Kingdom, in all the countries where The Queen was Head of State, in the Commonwealth and across the world, a deep sense of gratitude for the more than seventy years in which my Mother, as Queen, served the people of so many nations.  In 1947, on her twenty-first birthday, she pledged in a broadcast from Cape Town to the Commonwealth to devote her life, whether it be short or long, to the service of her peoples.  That was more than a promise:  it was a profound personal commitment which defined her whole life.  She made sacrifices for duty.  Her dedication and devotion as Sovereign never waivered, through times of change and progress, through times of joy and celebration, and through times of sadness and loss.  In her life of service we saw that abiding love of tradition, together with that fearless embrace of progress, which make us great as Nations.  The affection, admiration and respect she inspired became the hallmark of her reign.  And, as every member of my family can testify, she combined these qualities with warmth, humour and an unerring ability always to see the best in people.  I pay tribute to my Mother’s memory and I honour her life of service.  I know that her death brings great sadness to so many of you and I share that sense of loss, beyond measure, with you all.

The role and the duties of Monarchy also remain, as does the Sovereign’s particular relationship and responsibility towards the Church of England – the Church in which my own faith is so deeply rooted.  In that faith, and the values it inspires, I have been brought up to cherish a sense of duty to others, and to hold in the greatest respect the precious  traditions, freedoms and responsibilities of our unique history and our system of parliamentary government.  As The Queen herself did with such unswerving devotion, I too now solemnly pledge myself, throughout the remaining time God grants me, to uphold the Constitutional principles at the heart of our nation.  And wherever you may live in the United Kingdom, or in the Realms and territories across the world, and whatever may be your background or beliefs, I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love, as I have throughout my life.

My life will of course change as I take up my new responsibilities.  It will no longer be possible for me to give so much of my time and energies to the charities and issues for which I care so deeply.  But I know this important work will go on in the trusted hands of others.

This is also a time of change for my family.  I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla.  In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage seventeen years ago, she becomes my Queen Consort.  I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much.  As my Heir, William now assumes the Scottish titles which have meant so much to me.  He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall which I have undertaken for more than five decades.  Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty.  With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.  I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.

In a little over a week’s time we will come together as a nation, as a Commonwealth and indeed a global community, to lay my beloved mother to rest.  In our sorrow, let us remember and draw strength from the light of her example.  On behalf of all my family, I can only offer the most sincere and heartfelt thanks for your condolences and support.  They mean more to me than I can ever possibly express.  And to my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you.  Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years.  May “flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest”.

Ok, I do not believe they are Prince and Princess until Charles or the Royal Family website updates or Royal Family Social media updates. But, legally they are entitled (yes they said no to titles at Archie's birth but it was not tied up by HMTQ and needs to be tied by HMTK) so I guess she got word Charles is working (likely more Camilla and William) on something legal to tie it up so she is announcing it now when she can so when it is pulled her squad can scream foul. Something is very off.

I am angry over the lies. For months we have been hearing leaks from palace sources that the Letters Patent were not retroactive, and now the palace is saying that the titles were the kids all along, they were just waiting to see if Harry and Meghan wanted to use them. Bullshit. It's the same MO as the Princess Consort debacle - lie to the public for years/months and then turn around and tell another story and expect everyone to believe it. I loathe being lied to, and Charles is now "Charles the Liar" in my mind. I have lost every small shred of respect that I was starting to have for him and there is no chance of him regaining it. He had a second chance after the Princess Consort debacle, which is more than I give most people, and he blew it. He is now permanently at the top of my "People I don't Trust" list.

Palace Syndrome

I haven't read Valentine Low's newly-published book yet (no spare money at the moment) so I'm just scooping up reviews in the Press. Mr Low said in an interview,

'There is a way in which the courtiers are to blame. So the people around them were doing their best, these were people who believed in Harry and Meghan and they wanted to help. But there were signs early on, in the first year or so of their marriage, of how unhappy Harry and Meghan were. And no one really did anything about that. No one picked it up, no one flagged it up and there were no big discussions with the most senior courtiers in the institution.' However, he concluded that he did not think it 'would have made any difference' [...] (Because) what Harry and Meghan wanted and what the Royal family, what the Queen felt able to to give, I don't think there was ever a meeting point.'

More to the point, when you are a working Royal your job is to represent and deputise for HMTQ (and now for HMTK), not to do what you want. You may have interests in certain areas (mental health, children's well-being, domestic violence, etc) but you take on charity rolls and events on HMTQ's behalf, not your own. You shine the spotlight on the charities and hosts, not on yourself. You shake endless rows of hands to make the hand-owners feel valued and appreciated, not for adulation. You are, in effect, a personal ambassador for the head of state, not a celebrity.

I get the impression that Before Meghan, Harry was increasingly unhappy as The Spare, but when he met her it was clear that her ego, ambition and desire for stardom became the driving force in the relationship. Markle didn't understand that HMTQ was always the star. When she, Markle, realised she'd never even make "Best Supporting Actress", she encouraged his unhappiness for her own ends.

The courtiers were not to blame - their job was to work within the royal hierarchy and help the Sussexes support HMTQ. When Harry complains about 'the Palace Syndrome' and courtiers 'not fighting for him', what were they supposed to be fighting about? It's not a battle, not a war. It's not the World Cup; it's not the Sussexes vs the Cambridges, or the Sussexes vs the Rest of Them. You're all on Team Queen.

And as we all now know, unfortunately Markle didn't want to be a team player. So she ran off home with the spare ball and locked it in her closet so nobody else could play with it.

And yet Harry still looks unhappy.

He escaped his life as The Spare to William, only to find himself The Spare to Meghan - swapped his gilded cage within the Royal Family for one in Montecito, and he can't blame courtiers for that.

Like new lamps for old, he's swapped Palace Syndrome for Netflix Syndrome.

My dear Skippy, reports on Quora is that HMTK is prepared to offer TW $100 million to go away and shut up, forever, yet others say $50 million. Do you believe this, or is it the usual Meghan propaganda? The $100 million figure comes courtesy of "Benjamin Smallbrook," who claims he has inside information coming from his contacts at Buckingham Palace.

Any such deal would not be out in the public 🐼

I know you and others are upset, but so much of the Harkles PR has been ended this week. No more pretending the couples are at the same level because the Cambridges got a massive upgrade - they are no longer both Dukes. No more pretending MM is Diana 2.0 because the PoW title is now Catherine's. No more pretending that they're coming back to the BRF because HMTK emphasized their life is overseas. William's driving the bus (car), literally and physically.

I hope you are right, I just have no faith in my country's media.

I want to write something here which I am hoping reaches its intended audience and is read, assimilated and remembered for in the future.

Why doesn't it matter? Well, for many reasons:

HMTK is HRH The PoW’s boss

HRH The PoW reports to HMTK

Yes, they're a family but on the world stage, the BRF is run like a business. That's why there is a hierarchy

As the DDoS are (unfortunately) ranked immediately behind TRH the PPoW, and they are both HMTK's sons, it makes sense that HMTK would want them to be together

Everyone, everywhere, has at some point had to carry out a task or a job they have hated or disliked on the orders of their boss. Some people have to do so more than once, some on a regular basis

HMTK had already stated in his first speech exactly where his younger son and his wife will be going after the funeral, he is not rolling out the red carpet or ordering the slaughter of the fatted calf

RE: the travel to Scotland. I didn't see it anywhere, I said "probably" because I was just thinking through the logistics. It doesn't make sense for 2 private plane flights up from Windsor, and I don't expect any of them to be flying commercial for this trip. I guess they can't travel all together with HMTK because that wouldn't be safe, succession-wise.

I think William and Catherine will travel alone. Harry and Meghan can travel with other royals who will be attending.

I imagine W&C will need to be there before anyone else.
