Hyundai Begins Accepting Pre-Bookings for the New Tucson in Indonesia
Tumblr media
PT Hyundai Motor Indonesia brings major break-through into the world of automobile enthusiasts and SUV lovers in Indonesia as it launches the All New Tucson. It will then break its conventional models that SUV has been firmed by cutting-edge technology, super designs, and superb performance, as South Korean car manufacturers take it seriously.
"Ready to take the ordinary to the next level? Now it's your turn to be the first to own the All-New Tucson."
Hyundai said that All-New Tucson is available for early order across Indonesia effective on November 12. This marks an important milestone for Hyundai as it was established as an innovator of pioneering vehicles in Indonesia's increasingly competitive automotive market. The All-New Tucson is just something more than an automobile for those who would like to make their statement with a bold expression of self.
"Ready to dominate the ordinary? Now's the time to be first to own the All-New Tucson. Pre-book now at the nearest Hyundai dealer," the company tweeted, inviting interested customers to book a spot beforehand for this exciting new model.
A Symbol of Class and Bold Expression Right from the very exterior design, Hyundai went all out with the All-New Tucson, ensuring that this SUV becomes more than just a function. It is a declaration in modern form. On Hyundai Indonesia, the official All-New Tucson description goes this way: "a symbol of classy, bold self-expression" ready to "go beyond standards." This car breaks every mold set before when thinking of what an SUV can be-luxury, performance, and the latest tech all in one body. That is, the All-New Tucson has an innovative, distinctive "parametric jewel" evolutionary design where it is in its league because there is more aggression and sportiness in its looks. Hyundai focuses on designs since it owns sharp lines and elegant aggressiveness, signifying readiness to face any road.
Strong Hybrid Engine for Kinetic Performance
Under the bonnet, there is much more ride thrills in the All-New Tucson. The model comes with the Smartstream Gasoline 1.6T-GDi Hybrid Engine, a motor good for 235 hp at 5,500 rpm and 367 Nm of torque in the range of 1,000-4,100 rpm. Meanwhile, this power train besides offering the far-from-some performance also improves efficiency, much more ecological for the environmentally conscious driver.
It would be whether on highways or navigating through the cities, the All-New Tucson's engine would give responsive handling and smooth acceleration to the driver. Hyundai's focus has been put into the arena of making its performance more sustainable with this newly introduced hybrid-powered SUV that is going to meet the demands of a new generation of drivers for whom power and efficiency would be their need.
Interior With Maximum Comfort. Inside, the All-New Tucson offers a spacious and modern cabin with maximum comfort and convenience. Inside, the layout is horizontal to give an open, airy feel to the cabin; and, of course, the floating-type console adds a sense of sophistication to provide flexibility to drivers. An integral part of the design is providing for a flexible driving experience with intuitive control and easy access to the must-have features.
Hyundai has ensured what goes on inside the vehicle is just as fashionable and livable as the way it looks. The cabin, put together with good quality materials and the latest advancements in technology, coupled with that extent of space, forms a place not to sit but to enjoy each journey.

HP Indigo helped Diageo deliver an exclusive product experience
Tumblr media
Diageo India’s leading beverage company set out to launch India’s first small-batch, artisanal craft, 100% rice whisky in just 80 days, it knew it wasn’t only the blend that had to be flawless.
“This was an opportunity to create a luxury whisky in India and a key part of our company’s premiumization strategy,” recalls Vikram Damodaran, Diageo India, chief innovation officer. “So, there was enormous pressure to get every detail – from the flavor to the packaging and product experience – perfect.”
The beautiful golden liquid blend is like no other whisky in India as it’s made of locally-sourced rice from the northern frontiers of Punjab, which then travels over 2,000 km to be matured in Goa in bourbon casks over 3 years, and then finished in PX Sherry and Cherrywood casks in a 50-year-old warehouse. This limited-edition whisky has been launched in an exclusive batch of 2,000 numbered bottles, another first for the country. To emphasize the exclusivity of its whisky, Diageo India called on Trigon Digital’s expertise and the cutting-edge HP Indigo 25K Digital Press to help it create individually numbered bottles.
HP Indigo - Delivering small-batch and variable printing at a speed
“Due to the small batch size and variable printing needed, we knew it wasn’t going to be possible to use conventional printing technology here,” says Hiren Dedhia, Diageo India’s design head. “We also needed a fast turnaround if we were to meet our extremely ambitious timeline for launching the brand—which was just 80 days.”
After weighing up the options, the team at Diageo India recognized that Trigon’s HP Indigo 6900 Digital Press would be much the best choice for its job. As digital printing doesn’t require printing plates, the HP Indigo 6900 Digital Press enables Trigon to offer its customers print runs with no minimum size, greater flexibility, and shorter lead times. It also allows Trigon to automate more production processes, helping them to deliver jobs with maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
The printer’s variable data printing feature, used in combination with HP SmartStream Designer software, meant Trigon was able to easily accommodate Diageo India’s request for each bottle to feature its own unique number.
Providing exceptional color matching capabilities
HP Development Company, L.P. The information contained herein is subject to change without notice. The only warranties for HP products and services are set forth in the express warranty statements accompanying such products and services. Nothing herein should be construed as constituting an additional warranty. HP shall not be liable for technical or editorial errors or omissions contained herein.
For Diageo India’s design team, HP Indigo’s ability to print on a huge range of substrates – from plastic films and foils to glass and wood – and exceptional color matching capabilities were also significant advantages.
“Even though each bottle was different, we needed our branding and the rest of the packaging to be consistent across the whole print run,” says Dedhia. Experimenting with an uncoated substrate for the first time meant the stakes were even higher for the company.
“It was a risk but HP Indigo’s ability to produce consistently amazing print quality regardless of the substrate meant we got the perfect color match we were after,” says Dedhia. “The team at our design agency Butterfly Canon was amazed at how good it was.” With the HP Indigo 6900 Digital Press, Trigon was also able to turn the job around quickly without compromising on quality, helping the company to meet its tight timeline for completing the project.
“Using the HP Indigo Press enabled us to realize our goal of giving each bottle of our limited-edition whisky its own unique number,” says Damodaran. “By doing so, we’ve been able to create an exclusive product experience that will delight whisky connoisseurs, collectors of artisanal liquors and younger generations of whisky enthusiasts who particularly appreciate hyper-personalized experiences. This approach is also helping to bolster our position as a leader in the premium alcoholic beverage market.”

2021 Kia K5 review: The one to beat
New Post has been published on https://appradab.com/2021-kia-k5-review-the-one-to-beat/
2021 Kia K5 review: The one to beat
Tumblr media
The K5 is one snazzy-lookin’ sedan.
Antuan Goodwin/Roadshow
The Kia K5 — formerly known as the Optima — arrives on the scene with a new name, a new look and new powertrain options. All of these work to not only differentiate it from its predecessor, but help it stand out in the crowded crop of competing midsize sedans.
Like
Lively 1.6-liter turbo motor is now standard
Nimble, easy-to-drive performance
Solid standard cabin and safety tech suite
Don’t Like
Only the smaller screen offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
Automatic lighting is a touch too sensitive
The aesthetic is mostly new, but the K5’s proportions aren’t too far off those of the previous Optima. Overall, the sedan is about 2 inches longer with a 1.8-inch longer wheelbase. Cargo and passenger volume are within a few cubic inches of last year’s numbers, too. The roofline is about an inch lower, which accentuates the more “Stinger-like” fastback profile. Along with the increased length, this gives the K5 a much more planted and menacing look than the Optima it replaces. However, unlike the Stinger, the K5 is not a liftback, retaining a trunk separated from the cabin. A chrome accent arcs from the base of the A-pillar all the way back to the rear of the vehicle — a hallmark of the Optima design — but now flows smoothly into the window graphic rather than just tapering off to an arbitrary point.
Up front, the K5’s “tiger nose” grille is flanked by amber LED daytime running lights with a zigzag design. The new sedan also ditches the old one’s faux fender vents for a cleaner look. At the rear you’ll find a new full-width LED taillight assembly that ties the design together nicely, making the sedan look wider despite being the same width as before.
My example is a midrange GT-Line model, which adds flashes of sporty flair without the performance upgrades of the more powerful, full-on K5 GT. The GT-Line features 18-inch alloy wheels, a gloss black rear spoiler and unique front and rear bumpers with LED foglights. Inside, there’s a flat-bottomed steering wheel and unique SynTex leatherette upholstery on the seats.
1.6-liter turbo engine
Kia’s 1.6-liter Smartstream turbo engine replaces the old 2.4-liter I4 as the K5’s base engine, making 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. That’s 5 hp less than the 2.4-liter engine but, perhaps more importantly, a boost of 17 lb-ft, which keeps this engine feeling lively around town.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The GT-Line model features styling and feature upgrades without the performance gains of the true GT model.
Antuan Goodwin/Roadshow
The 1.6T is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that feels like a good match for the engine. Together, they’re not a supersporty pair — particularly with the GT-Line’s lack of paddle shifters — but they do make an engaging duo that balances quiet performance in the Normal drive mode with smooth and ample thrust when flicked to Sport.
Driving the K5 is best described as light and easy. From the steering to the throttle response, the sedan feels light on its toes, nimble and not fatiguing. There’s less feedback through the wheel than in a Honda Accord or Mazda6, which have better steering, but the Kia is nevertheless responsive. In a class where your options are usually either numb and detached or overly firm and “sport-tuned,” the K5 stands apart as one of the good ones, a particularly balanced and joyful drive.
This year also marks the first time the Optima/K5 is available with all-wheel drive. Checking this box adds $3,700 to the bottom line because it also rolls in a premium equipment package. Of course, optioning all-wheel drive nudges the K5 fuel economy estimates down to 26 miles per gallon city, 34 mpg highway and 29 mpg combined, so if you live in a state where you don’t need the extra grip, consider sticking with the front-wheel drive configuration, where most K5 models are good for a stated 27 city, 37 highway and 31 combined mpg. During my week of testing, I averaged 29.9 mpg with FWD. The base K5 LX model stands apart, gaining 1-2 mpg across the board versus the higher trims, most likely thanks to its lower weight and fewer creature comforts.
If you want a higher level of performance, the K5 GT has a more powerful 2.5-liter engine with 311 hp and 290 lb-ft. I’ll be evaluating that soon in a separate review, so stay tuned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The K5’s list of standard safety features is impressive, but there are a few quirks.
Antuan Goodwin/Roadshow
Excellent driver-assistance tech
The 2021 Kia K5 keeps current with the automaker’s suite of standard safety and driver-aid technologies, with lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, forward precollision warning, pedestrian detection, driver alertness monitoring and automatic headlamp and high-beam systems fitted to every model. Kia’s auto-light technologies are a touch too sensitive for my tastes, though; while driving around in broad daylight, I’ll catch the headlamps momentarily activating if I pass under a dense tree or overpass, causing the map to flick from day to night mode, which is distracting. I also find the automatic high-beams annoying, activating even at low speeds on my reasonably illuminated residential street.
On higher trim levels, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are added to the feature set, and Kia’s full-speed adaptive cruise control comes online as optional equipment. The latter works well, even at stop-and-go speeds, without any jerkiness when other vehicles merge into or out of my lane. These upper trim levels can also upgrade the emergency braking assist setup with cyclist detection and junction assist, which helps prevent collisions during cross-traffic (left-hand) turns.
Cabin tech: Bigger isn’t always better
Kia’s cabin tech is usually fairly straightforward and easy to understand, but 2021 adds a few odd details you’ll want to keep an eye on. You can get the K5 with either an 8-inch or a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the dashboard. Both run versions of the automaker’s latest-generation UVO software, depending on trim and options chosen. Both are smartly organized and easy to use with features ranging from surprisingly useful (voice memo recorder) to sort of weird (ambient cafe sounds).
Both also feature standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, while the smaller unit has wireless connectivity for Android and Apple phones, the 10.25-inch model only connects via USB. For this reason alone, I’d personally stick with the smaller screen. The difference in visual real estate isn’t huge, but the wireless phone connection is more convenient, making for a less cluttered cabin without dangling cables. It also makes the optional wireless phone charging slot a more compelling and useful upgrade.
Of course, if you’re planning on using the onboard software, this is less of a nit to pick. Kia’s built-in navigation is pretty good and easy to use with natural language voice recognition and address input. The menu structure makes sense and is very easy to get around thanks to dedicated hardware shortcut buttons just below the screen leading to every major function.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The smaller UVO system (pictured here) features the wireless Android and Apple connectivity that the larger unit lacks.
Antuan Goodwin/Roadshow
Pricing and competition
The 2021 Kia K5 starts at $24,585 for the base LX (including $995 for destination), an increase of only $100 over last year’s starting price. Considering the K5 comes with more standard equipment than the Optima, not to mention the once-optional upgrade to the turbocharged engine, I think it’s worth the extra dough.
While the thriftiest will be tempted by the LX’s lower price and slightly better fuel economy, I think the sweet spot in the lineup is probably the front-drive GT-Line. It’s slightly more expensive, starting at $26,485, but adds more standard features, looks better and has a higher level of safety equipment. Consider the optional $1,600 GT-Line Premium Package with its LED headlamps and interior lights, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, smarter collision avoidance tech and stop-and-go adaptive cruise. As tested and so equipped, you’re looking at $28,085 out the door. Drivers who need the surefootedness of all-wheel drive are looking at a still-reasonable $30,185 with the Premium pack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2021 K5 sits in a sweet spot of great performance, desirable features and excellent value.
Antuan Goodwin/Roadshow
That’s about two grand less than a comparably equipped Toyota Camry — with or without all-wheel drive — with more engaging performance and easier-to-use tech. Honda’s Accord is only available with front-wheel drive, yet manages to be more expensive than the K5 AWD. The Mazda6 is slightly cheaper and more fun to drive, but also boasts less space for people and cargo as well as a more spartan tech.
The 2021 Kia K5 and the new Hyundai Sonata stand as my top picks in the affordable midsize sedan space, the Kia matching its cousin’s tech, safety features, build quality and value. However, the K5 pulls ahead on more subjective metrics, with more palatable style and sharper performance.

2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line First Look: Nürburgring Sonata
The big-name German performance brands all sell performance in various packages and steps, from BMW’s M Sport or Mercedes-Benz’s AMG packages to full-blown M and Mercedes-AMG models. Hyundai aspires to follow in these footsteps with N models like North America’s Veloster N and Europe’s i30 N at the top of the retail pyramid (factory racing N cars occupy the ultimate peak of the pyramid) and a widening line of N Line models occupying the rung beneath them. First to get the N Line treatment was the Elantra GT N Line, and next up are the Elantra and Sonata sedans.
Not too much info has been shared on the full Sonata N Line package, but at a powertrain backgrounder in December 2019, we learned that the heart of this new beast is a turbocharged 2.5-liter “Smartstream” gasoline direct injection (TGDI) engine that should make 290 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. That represents a 52 percent power bump and a significant 71 percent more torque than the next-hottest-performing Sonata, a turbocharged 1.6-liter good for 191 hp and 181 lb-ft. Relative to the Elantra GT N Line’s 25 and 30 percent bumps in power and torque, that’s pretty impressive.
A performance boost of that magnitude will require commensurate reinforcement and re-tuning of the brakes, springs, and dampers, which engineers are no doubt putting the finishing touches on. Will the team be able to transform this sizeable front-drive sedan into a credible back-road burner that performs somewhere between an Elantra GT and a Veloster N? Consider our fingers well and truly crossed.
Performance aside, the N Line kit comes with a number of visual updates relative to the standard Sonata, including a new fascia, racier grille, and three large air intakes. Around the back sits a new rear bumper with dual exhaust outlets flanking a new lower fascia. A set of 19-inch alloys help complete the sportier look. Inside, the model benefits from dark chrome trim, more heavily bolstered seats, red stitching on the steering wheel, and N Line badging (how else are you supposed to know you’re in a Sonata with a little extra flair?).
Then comes the question of what Hyundai will charge for such a device. If it applies the same roughly 20 percent upcharge that one pays to upgrade a base Elantra GT automatic to an Elantra GT N Line with its seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, then that should bring the price of an SEL-spec Sonata N Line to around $34,000, or a Limited grade one to $41,000. It’s a bad idea to load a performance car up to Limited spec anyway, and with the Accord 2.0T Touring topping out at $37,355 and a loaded Camry XSE V-6 just cresting $39,000, we’d expect the Sonata N Line to be spec’d to price out a little shy of $40,000.

2. Interior
Tumblr media

Fresh off the back of a new generation of the Sonata that brings more style, functionality, and practicality to Hyundai’s mid-size sedan, the South Korean automaker has delivered a new hybrid version for those seeking better fuel economy. The hybrid drivetrain consists of a 2.0-liter gasoline engine working with an electric motor. The gas engine generates 150 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque, and the electric motor contributes another 51 hp and 151 lb-ft, although the combined figure rests at just 192 hp. That drivetrain, along with excellent aerodynamics from the Sonata’s sleek new design, brings a fuel economy estimate of 52 mpg from the EPA. That level of fuel economy puts the Sonata Hybrid firmly in Toyota Prius territory for fuel economy.
There’s little difference style wise separating the Sonata Hybrid from the regular Sonata until you get to the Limited model. That boasts a slick-looking array of solar panels built into the roof for recharging the batteries. Inside, you’ll find the same premium-level feel and level of features that are, thankfully, becoming typical of the segment. All in, the Sonata Hybrid may just have leapfrogged the competition, which comprises the likes of the Toyota Camry Hybrid and Honda Accord Hybrid.
2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Changes: What’s the difference vs 2019 Sonata Hybrid?
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is an all-new arrival this year, forming part of the more upmarket seventh-generation Sonata range. The much sharper styling is functional, too, with the Sonata Hybrid boasting a low drag coefficient of just 0.24 – a cross-hole grille features active air flaps and even the alloy wheels have a special aerodynamic design. The combination of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor produces a combined output of 192 horsepower; the 2.0L motor generates 139 lb-ft of torque on its own and the electric motor a further 151 lb-ft. The combination enables an EPA-estimated 52 mpg combined and a 686-mile range for the Blue trim.
Also debuting with the Sonata Hybrid is Hyundai’s Solar Roof System which can recharge the battery and prevent battery discharge when the car is switched off. A more premium look to the interior is matched by enhanced practicality, with Hyundai increasing the trunk size by 2.5 cubic feet relative to last year’s Sonata Hybrid.

Sonata Hybrid Exterior
The Sonata Hybrid shares the completely fresh styling with the rest of the Sonata range, which employs the brand’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design direction. Although not everyone will love the design, we must commend Hyundai for ending up with a unique look that sets this midsize sedan apart from more conservative rivals. The cross-hole grille with active air flaps is unique to the Sonata Hybrid, and all trims receive LED headlights (the integration of the LED DRLs with the chrome hood trim is brilliantly executed) and power-folding mirrors. The top trim features Hyundai’s clever Solar Roof System which the manufacturer says increases the range by a couple of miles after six hours of charging. The base model has 16-inch alloy wheels, increasing to 17s on the higher-spec trims.
  Dimensions
At 192.9 inches long, the Sonata Hybrid is lengthier than the Honda Accord, one of its key rivals. It measures 56.9 inches in height and 73.2 inches in width excluding the side mirrors. The sleek design conceals a 111.8-inch wheelbase. The curb weight varies from 3,325 pounds for the lightest base trim to 3,530 lbs for the heaviest model. By contrast, the heaviest non-hybrid Sonata weighs in at 3,336 lbs.
Length192.9 in
Wheelbase111.8 in
Height56.9 in
Max Width73.2 in
Front Width64.3 in
Rear Width63.9 in
Exterior Colors
The Sonata Hybrid’s color palette is made up of seven shades: Hyper White, Nocturne Black, Hampton Gray, Calypso Red, Shimmering Silver, Portofino Gray, and Oxford Blue. Where in the past one would need to go for a vibrant shade to spice up the appearance of a generic Hyundai sedan, today’s Sonata looks interesting and assertive even when painted in simple white.
Sonata Hybrid Performance
With a focus on efficiency, the new Sonata Hybrid isn’t the most powerful competitor in its segment. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 150 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque, with the electric motor contributing another 51 hp and 151 lb-ft. According to Hyundai, the maximum combined system output is 192 hp. Power goes to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai hasn’t released official performance figures – no surprise since this isn’t the focus of the powertrain – but last year’s similarly powerful Sonata Hybrid (not the plug-in version) took over eight seconds to hit 60 mph. The new base Sonata Hybrid is lighter, though, so may end up being a bit quicker than this. Honda’s more powerful Accord Hybrid will get to 60 in the low seven-second range. As with many other hybrids, towing isn’t recommended for this Sonata.
Engine and Transmission
Hyundai’s Smartstream G2.0 GDi HEV four-cylinder engine produces 139 lb-ft of torque, with another 151 lb-ft served up by the permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. Combined system power output works out to 192 hp. The setup is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode.
The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid’s drivetrain accelerates it strongly from a standstill. The engine and electric motor are aided by a six-speed automatic transmission rather than a continuously variable transmission, which is unusual for a hybrid. Hyundai’s new Active Shift Control system is designed to monitor the engine and use the electric motor to match the transmission speed, and the system is quick to shift but not quite as smooth as advertised. The overall result is that you can quickly forget you’re driving a hybrid around town.

Handling and Driving Impressions
It is easy to forget you’re driving a hybrid version of the Sonata around town, right up until you use the brakes. That’s not a bad thing, though. The brakes are on the aggressive side, so take a little getting used to for stopping smoothly. The regenerative braking is strong, letting you know you’re recharging the battery as you come off the gas and saving some wear and tear on the brake pads.
The ride is smooth and quiet, and a move upscale for the Sonata in general. On the highway, the Sonata is a great cruiser, but getting onto curvy country roads and it’s extra weight starts to show and the body roll is noticeable. During our week with the Sonata Hybrid, it’s didn’t take long to realize that outside of the city or a freeway, the Sonata Hybrid isn’t ideal for swift driving if you don’t want passengers to complain.
Sonata Hybrid Gas Mileage
The Sonata Hybrid is an exceedingly thrifty midsize sedan. In its Blue trim, EPA estimates work out to an exceptional 50/54/52 mpg on the city/highway/combined cycles. The pricier trims return figures of 45/51/47 mpg. The Sonata Hybrid Blue is, therefore, more efficient than the Honda Accord Hybrid (48/47/48 mpg) and closely matches the most efficient Toyota Camry Hybrid (51/53/52 mpg). Even though the 13.2-gallon gas tank isn’t especially large, it’s still enough for a maximum combined cruising range of 686 miles. Hyundai says that the Solar Roof System (standard on the top-line Limited) adds around two miles of range per day – or about 700 miles over the course of a year.
In the real world, our Limited trim tester sat around 42-43 mpg. But, that was biased towards freeway use and a trip out into the desert for some sight-seeing to escape the lockdown. What we couldn’t discern is exactly how much difference the solar panels on the roof made a difference despite leaving it parked in the sun for a couple of full days.

Sonata Hybrid Interior
Hyundai has stepped up its game in the Sonata Hybrid’s cabin, too. Much like Mazda right now, Hyundai has achieved a premium look by going for a simplified, fuss-free design and fewer physical buttons than before. The climate control panel, for instance, is a model of clarity. The seats are supportive and space utilization earns high praise both front and rear. The nitpickers out there will be able to find one or two bits of trim that aren’t especially solid, but overall, it’s a fine effort. All trims are equipped with cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, and dual-zone climate control, while higher-spec trims have power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, and wireless device charging. A color head-up display is standard on the range-topping Limited trim.
Seating and Interior Space
Inside the Sonata Hybrid, you’ll find room enough for five adults, but that last center-rear seat is best saved for short journeys. The new sportback styling of the Sonata doesn’t impact rear headroom as much as the sloping roof suggests. In the back, there’s 37.8 inches of upright room, just a shade less than in the standard Sonata, while there are the same 40 inches up for driver and front passenger. Both front and rear legroom are the same at 46.1 inches and 34.8 inches, respectively.
Like the standard Sonata as well, the Sonata Hybrid has an excellent driving position with decent visibility all around. The level of adjustment in the steering wheel is fine, but the driver’s seat would benefit tall drivers by being able to be set a little lower.

Interior Colors and Materials
While the Blue and SEL trims have premium cloth seats, the Limited gets leather upholstery. The base model has a urethane-trimmed steering wheel but more appealing leather wrapping is applied to the steering wheels on other versions. Hyundai has made good use of soft-touch materials on the armrests and door panels, surfaces that will most often be touched. On non-hybrid models (reviewed separately), a mix of black and light grey or brown interior color schemes can be chosen, and the Sonata Hybrid has access to a similar range of colors, although the Dark Grey/Camel color scheme is only available on the leather found in the Limited model.
Sonata Hybrid Trunk and Cargo Space
The high-voltage hybrid battery has been optimally placed so that there is no reduction in trunk capacity compared with the non-hybrid Sonata. At 16 cubic feet – although not the largest in this segment – the trunk is big enough to accommodate about seven carry-ons or a weekly grocery shop. The back seats can also be folded down in a 60/40 split to further increase overall cargo capacity, and hands-free smart trunk access is a big plus when your hands are full.
Interior storage space is generous, too, with a usefully-sized center console and well-placed cupholders. The doors are also equipped with their own pockets for stashing phones, wallets, and the like.

Sonata Hybrid Infotainment and Features
Features
Hyundai continues a tradition of offering plenty of standard features across the Sonata Hybrid range. The entry-level Blue trim gets LED headlights, automatic high-beam assist, power-folding mirrors, dual-zone climate control, and six-way manually-adjustable front seats. A tilt/telescoping steering column helps in finding a good driving position, too. Along with an impressive nine airbags, all models also receive a rearview camera, forward collision avoidance, lane keeping assist, and driver attention warning. The mid-range SEL adds console-mounted vents for the rear passengers, wireless device charging, and power-adjustable/heated front seats, while the range-topping Limited has ventilated front seats, the solar glass roof, rear parking sensors, and a color head-up display.
Infotainment
An eight-inch color touchscreen is standard for the Sonata Hybrid, while a 10.25-inch unit comes standard on the Limited trim. Both screens are quick to respond to touch inputs, and the displays, controls, and settings are intuitive to move through. Hyundai has stuck to the tried-and-tested physical volume knob and simple physical controls for the HVAC system. The forward and back controls are a less-traditional capacitive-touch design. Bluetooth streaming, Apple Carplay, and Android Auto are standard on all trim levels, as is HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car system. A 12-speaker Bose sound system is standard on SEL and Limited trim along with wireless phone charging capability.
A 4.3-inch digital gauge cluster is standard on the entry-level Blue trim and the middle SEL package. Limited trim gets a 12.3-inch digital display, but either way, the displays are vivid and easy to grab information from at a glance. The 12.3 in. display automatically adds navigation capability.
Sonata Hybrid Problems and Reliability
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid was recalled twice for a faulty remote smart parking assist system and incorrect tire size information, both of which have also affected the Sonata Hybrid. As an all-new model, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get an accurate picture of the range’s reliability.
One of Hyundai’s major advantages is its superb warranty coverage, with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty. Even better, the brand recently added three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary maintenance.

Sonata Hybrid Safety
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata was named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS (when equipped with LED projector headlights), with an excellent spread of Good ratings for crashworthiness. The only blemish following its evaluation was a Marginal rating for the standard headlights. The NHTSA awarded the 2020 Sonata a five-star overall safety rating.

     Key Safety Features
Hyundai has equipped the Sonata Hybrid with nine airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag and side-curtain airbags for both front and rear occupants. Active safety features common to all variants are blind spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, rear occupant alert, lane keeping assist, lane follow assist, driver attention warning, and high beam assist. All versions also have vehicle stability and tire pressure monitoring systems in place. The top-spec Limited additionally has a surround-view monitor, parking collision avoidance assist (rear), and front/rear parking sensors.
Verdict: Is the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid a good car?
We are fans of the new Hyundai Sonata for its stylish practicality, a long list of standard features, and added exterior design flair that doesn’t stretch into gimmickry. Adding the hybrid system improves fuel economy, but adds weight to the chassis that’s detrimentally noticeable on back roads. However, for a daily driver and family car that’s going to spend most of its life in the city or on the freeway, Hyundai has pulled off a slam dunk, even if it doesn’t quite reach the level of the Toyota Prius in terms of fuel economy. Still, the Sonata Hybrid doesn’t have the excessive “Look at me I’m a hybrid!” styling elements or the irritating interior design of the Prius.
Like most of its competitors, the Sonata Hybrid doesn’t make a meal of being a hybrid. However, we would also shop around and look at the Honda Accord Hybrid and Toyota Camry hybrid as closer competitors.
What’s the Price of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid?
Pricing is yet another strong suit for the Sonata Hybrid, with the base Blue kicking off at just $27,750. The SEL is priced from $29,900, while the top-spec Limited asks $35,300 excluding a destination charge of $975. For reference, the Honda Accord Hybrid ranges from $25,620 to $35,290, while the Camry Hybrid starts at $28,430 and tops out at $32,730.
2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Models
Hyundai’s all-new Sonata Hybrid is offered in a choice of three trims: Blue, SEL, and Limited. All are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a combined power output of 192 hp. A six-speed automatic gearbox is used and power is directed to the front axle.
Starting with the Blue trim, it comes with LED headlights (with LED DRLs), power-folding side mirrors, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The interior features cloth-trimmed seats along with dual-zone climate control, an eight-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, and safety equipment like blind spot monitoring and pedestrian detection.
The mid-range SEL adds bigger 17-inch wheels, power-adjustable front seats with heating, a Bose premium audio system with 12 speakers, wireless device charging, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The range-topping Limited enjoys the brand’s Solar Roof System, LED matrix headlamps, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen interface with navigation, and a color head-up display.
Additional Packages
Hyundai generally doesn’t overwhelm with millions of available options, but a few choice examples can be equipped to improve the Sonata Hybrid’s spec levels. All three trims can be optioned with an auto-dimming rearview mirror at $295, but the rest of the options center around accessories such as a first aid kit, mudguards, and carpeted floor mats.
What Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Model Should I Buy?
There’s very little to complain about with the Sonata Hybrid. It’s tech and safety feature list and fuel economy level for the money is excellent. Even on the basic Blue trim level, there are LED headlights, dual-zone climate controls, alloy wheels, and the best mpg estimates. We would go with that or the middle SEL trim for a balance of cost versus benefits that include things like power and heated front seats, the Bose sound system, and wireless charging.
At $35,300, the Limited Trim looks pricey, but it is a full-featured car complete with leather upholstery, the larger screens, and a color head-up display. We’re still not convinced about the solar-paneled roof, though.
2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Fresh off the back of a new generation of the Sonata that brings more style, functionality, and practicality to Hyundai's mid-size sedan, the South Korean automaker has delivered a new hybrid version for those seeking better fuel economy.

Now, in my reviews I always mention the horsepower and torque numbers that a vehicle has, but what does that really mean and how does it apply to how you use the vehicle.
What exactly is Horsepower and Torque?
Horsepower is a unit of measurement used to denote power or the “rate at which work is done” by an engine or motor. Your car’s horsepower denotes how quickly that work can be done with more power allowing for quicker work.
Torque is force multiplied by distance. In the case of cars, “the rotational equivalent of linear force.” Essentially, it’s the amount of force applied to an object with a twisting motion, such as a motor applying force to a crankshaft, which in turn, rotates your tires.
So, what’s the difference between horsepower and torque?
The two are very much two sides of the same coin as one goes with the other…torque being the force and horsepower being the rate at which that force is done. The difference is torque is doing the work, while horsepower is how fast that work is being done.
So, now you know.

2021 Genesis GV80 First Look: Better Late than Never
Finally, Genesis has unveiled what is likely to become its bread and butter: the midsize 2021 GV80, which is also the brand’s first SUV. The full wraps were taken off at an event in Korea, where it will go on sale this month before making its way to North America in the second half of the year.
This first of three planned SUVs is hugely significant not only through its mere existence—the others are the smaller GV70 and one that remains shrouded in secrecy—but also because it rides on a new, brand-specific platform that will be used for the next G80 midsize sedan. The rear-wheel-drive architecture also offers optional all-wheel drive.
We’ve been waiting to see the production vehicle since Genesis first showed the four-seat, fuel-cell-powered GV80 concept at the 2017 New York auto show; while the production model carries over much of the show property’s look, the one people can buy is carries five passengers as standard (a third row is optional) and will feature conventional combustion engines. Among those powertrains is the first six-cylinder diesel for the brand, a Genesis-exclusive 278-hp 3.0-liter unit—although that is unlikely to come to the U.S. We will, however, get two turbocharged gasoline engines.
These include a modified version of the new, 290-hp and 311-lb-ft 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Smartstream engine used by Kia and Hyundai, the latter of whom installs it in the Sonata N Line. The other engine will be a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 that appears poised to replace the 380-hp, 390-lb-ft 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6 in Genesis’s lineup. In the GV80, they will mate to an eight-speed conventional automatic transmission controlled via an electronic rotary gear selector in the center console.
The new GV80 SUV also has an electronically controlled suspension with an integrated road-preview function that uses forward-facing cameras and navigation information to scan the road ahead for bumps; once an imperfection is detected, the suspension primes to make it all but imperceptible to the occupants. All-wheel-drive versions will feature Multi-Terrain Control with sand, mud, and snow modes that work on the electronic limited-slip differential located at the rear axle.
The 2021 GV80 was designed collaboratively by studios in South Korea, the United States, and Germany under the direction of Hyundai Motor Group chief design officer Luc Donckerwolke. Aesthetically, the GV80 wears many of Genesis’s recently adopted signature design cues, including the crest grill stuffed with the so-called “G-Matrix” mesh pattern, quad strips of headlights, and a parabolic line that traces the body side. “The quad-lamp graphic will become the most recognizable, unique signature of Genesis design,” Donckerwolke said. “Two lines will come to define Genesis,” he said of the dual strips of LEDs that serve as head- and taillamps. (They’re echoed in the fender garnishes, as well.) The G-Matrix pattern can also be found on the optional 22-inch wheels; the regular wheels are 19-inchers.
Inside, you’ll find the expected open-pore wood and quilted leather, the latter of which carries over the G-Matrix pattern. The wide dash is marked by vents that appear to span its width and was designed to create a greater sense of space and impart a minimalist theme; the spare number of hard buttons and switches reinforce the clean and simple look. Soft materials cover every surface, from the inside of the door handles to the quilted knee pads that line the lower sides of the center console.
A 14.5-inch, split-screen-capable display sits atop the dashboard, and Korean-spec vehicles even get a 3D instrument cluster. If you don’t like using a touchscreen keyboard to enter a destination or other information into the infotainment system, the GV80 has handwriting recognition via a touchpad.
While the body structure is made from high-strength steel, the doors, hood, and tailgate are fashioned from aluminum to lighten the load. The GV80 also introduces road-noise cancellation technology to the brand, and it will of course have a host of driver-assist technologies to offer buyers.
When the 2021 Genesis GV80 reaches America, it is expected to have a base price of around $48,000. The primary competition will be the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Lexus RX, and Jaguar F-Pace.
