In a setting where technology has basically been hit with a reset button, the battle between new visual and old audio media isn’t really much of a fight.
Instead, Alastor and Vox represent two different approaches to life in the post-war Wasteland:
Alastor grew up in a very remote, rustic homestead in the swamps of the deep south. Self-sufficiency was paramount to survival - you couldn’t rely on purchasing pre-packaged food or medicine from traders, so you had to forage, hunt, or grow your own. Without easy access to new supplies, you needed to be able to repair and maintain your own clothes, shelter, and equipment. This, amusingly, makes him much more tech savvy than his canon incarnation. He’s still somewhat of a Luddite, though, with a disdain for robotics, power armor, laser and plasma weaponry, and even Pip-Boys and terminals. Give him some old radio equipment to tinker with and a proper projectile rifle over that fiddly nonsense any day. He has a whole library of almanacs, both pre-war and newer hand-written ones by Wastelanders, and his more normal talk segments often come with tips and instructions for repair and survival, encouraging independence.
Vox grew up in the ruins of Pentagram City, and began running with local organized crime at a young age, until an Overlord took him under their wing (that is, until Vox could gather allies and stage a hostile takeover of his mentor’s territory). He sees the value in consumerism and convenience products, peddling quick fixes and new distractions to the people of the Wasteland to build up his empire. He adores the latest, greatest shiny examples of Progress, being an adept programmer and wielding a decent understanding of mechanical engineering, despite most of his products being stolen inventions or re-engineered pre-war tech.
#Vault 666#fallout au#hazbin au#hazbin hotel au#Vox hazbin hotel#hazbin vox#alastor#Hazbin Hotel Alastor#Alastor Hazbin#Vox does still have a media empire though - it's just print media and movies instead of tv and streaming#working TVs are rare in the Wasteland and it isn't cost-efficient to make holotapes for home viewing or broadcasting#so he makes movies and maintains theaters#including adult theaters where his collaborative projects with Valentino play#There is also a VoxTech radio station but it's mostly whatever popular music played between various ads for his products#alastor being essentially an anarchist troll amongst his 'co-workers' who need the Wastelanders to depend on them for survival

Leasing office equipment is becoming the preferred option for businesses looking to manage expenses while maintaining efficiency. Copier leasing in Riverside, Inland Empire offers businesses a practical way to access advanced printing solutions without significant upfront costs. Instead of purchasing expensive machines outright, companies can lease equipment, keeping cash flow free for other essential areas. This approach allows businesses to remain agile while still enjoying reliable printing technology.

yeahhhhh pretty much, except the only thing is it's less individual investors and more Hedge Funds.
Hedge funds use algorithms to maximize profits by any means necessary, up to and including certain tactics that will deliberately tank a stock. If it's not performing well or if they just don't want it to, they can bet against it and whip out a variety of bullshit of varying legality to push the share price down, which causes other HFs to sell to stay ahead of the market, which leads portfolio managers and accountants and regular folks to sell, and then when the selloffs are done the original HFs make fucking bank off strangling the stock. (This also works in reverse: betting a stock will rise, baiting others to buy in, profit, then bet against it again)
So a "strong" company is one with lots of gains and very few/short losses (harder to break/less room to manipulate, generally Big Name stocks like Disney/Apple/etc) whereas a "weak" company with more losses than gains or lots of volatility is a prime target for the piranhas. The people running companies are terrified of stagnation, let alone losses, because it can very, very easily be taken advantage of and even outright kill the company in just a few weeks or months. Perpetual growth is virtually required to survive the market as it is today.
Individual, casual/hobbyist investors with at most a couple dozen shares in a handful of companies don't have the numbers/margins to seriously affect a stock price. Even hobbyist/semipro "traders" who obsess/hoard and attempt to imitate The Big Guys are comparitively few in number and just don't have the weight to affect much more than their own account balance. But hedge funds do have MASSIVE weight in the market, throwing around thousands of shares at a time, several times a day, for dozens of different tickers, in multiple markets and across multiple industries.
And then there are "market makers." These are giant companies whose SOLE purpose is to manipulate the market ensure "market liquidity," or, "a buy for every sell, a sell for every buy." What this means is that if demand is high but there aren't enough shares available to sell, they make more by "borrowing" them, potentially infinitely. If these market makers feel a stock is too "overvalued," they can dump loads of those borrowed shares to saturate the market and drive the price back down. There is extremely little regulation on this, which leads to situations where the same one share can have dozens or hundreds of "owners."
This can happen because regular everyday investors don't actually "own" stock at all. Like, very literally, their "shares" are 1) not real and 2) can be liquidated by their brokers at any time, because, as the go-between third party, their brokers own the shares "on their behalf," and brokers essentially just "deliver" digital IOUs. All Actual Real Shares are held in the DTCC by a company called Cede & Co, and everything else is traded on credit.
If you buy a "share" in a company through a broker, it's not your name on the company shareholder list, it's your broker's. If you're submitting paperwork to your broker for voting for that company's policies at their annual meeting, your broker is pooling aaaaall the votes and "proportionally" voting "on your behalf." And your broker can decide to lend out your shares without telling you (to their own profit) and you may or may not ever get them back -- this is called "failure to delivers" or FTDs and there is a massive backlog of them that just ... never get addressed.
this is hella over-summarized and sloppy but the tl;dr is that supply and demand economics are beyond broken, the entire stock market is more fake than you ever imagined, it's propped up entirely by computer programs trading IOUs-of-IOUs-of-IOUs, and is easily manipulated at the literal whim of bank-and-billionaire proxies.
companies really have got to be okay with stagnant profits. what is wrong with earning the same amount every year? why does it always have to be more? it's not sustainable. there are only so many people on the planet you can profit from 😭
#stock market#it was a hyperfixation i try to forget#but sometimes i ... cannot#it still makes me so ANGRY#its a bernie madoff wet dream#and there is just SO MUCH INFO to try and organize and communicate#like i could prob make a nice masterpost with a cpl days of prep#but i rly can't right now bc irl stuff#and i shouldn't#BUT IM SO TEMPTED#a great primer tho is Jon Stewart's episode on Dark Pools#anyways#rambles#FUCKING STOCK MARKET AAAAAAAA#financial law enforcement can take YEARS and fines are often LESS THAN 5% OF PROFITS FROM THE CRIME#and they reversed the last charges from the 2008 crisis#and they're still fuckin DOIN THE SAME SHIT#when it finally implodes its gonna be like. so ungodly bad#it was never supposed to be this#it was supposed to be regular ppl supporting good companies products and employers#until a handful of ppl figured out how to turn it into a terrifyingly efficient money printing game#with a 0% chance of legal consequences#and 'only' like a 5% chance of total economic annihilation via catastropic chain reactive system failure#aaaaaAAAAAAAAAA okay. okay im done#im done im good im... letting go now#going back to normal. i can be done. i can.#sorry

Manufacturing Look: Energy-Efficient Strategies for a Greener Industry

As businesses worldwide are increasingly required to reduce their environmental footprint, achieving maximum productivity while minimizing energy consumption has become a key strategy for adopting sustainable practices. By effectively utilizing energy, industries can save significant amounts of money, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and contribute to environmental preservation. This article explores some of the most common approaches to improving energy efficiency, along with their benefits and drawbacks.
The Importance of Energy Efficiency in Production
The manufacturing sector is among the most energy-intensive industries globally and is a major contributor to both energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. With the growing need to address climate change, manufacturers are being urged to reduce energy use while maintaining productivity and product quality. Implementing energy-efficient manufacturing processes provides two main benefits: it helps companies meet regulatory requirements by reducing energy consumption and offers a competitive advantage by cutting costs and enhancing their reputation.
Implementation of Energy Management Systems
One of the most effective strategies to boost energy efficiency is the adoption of Energy Management Systems (EnMS). EnMS involves a systematic approach to measuring, monitoring, and optimizing energy use in the production process. When combined with big data and real-time monitoring technologies, companies can track energy waste, evaluate progress, and make data-driven adjustments to eliminate inefficiencies.

youtube likes to twist a particular knife into my gut and brings up Luigi's valedictorian speech often when i'm there watching something completely unrelated and every single time i feel like crying
#that kid is like a smol child to me altho i am barely older than he was then#it just feels so bad seeing it now#he was so smol#and the calm confidence with which he carries himself there is kinda exemplary#like kids look at that and learn how to speak publicly that's an excellent example#love how he'd printed out the speech in huge fonts because he was turning pages so fast and was able to read so easily#i've never thought of doing that#guess my ability to be efficient is hampered by my wish to not waste resources#also the way he's laid his left hand on the podium so calm and casual and confident#also the one time he slips up but doesn't react except for arching his eyebrows#i'd have said sorry immediately i don't have any impulse control#anyways excellent public speaking 10/10 no notes

There's knowing you're working on a backlog and there is looking at the papers you're sorting and realizing you're the first person in ten to fifteen years who has looked at them.
#there has to be a more efficient way to do this than just. piles and piles of paper#i know my colleagues sometimes still dont understand even excel but this is getting ridiculous#honey those are printed out emails from 2010#why do you even have those??#fighting for my life here against my immediate need to fix this shitshow while repeating like a mantra#i don't get paid enough for this#do not work more than what youre paid for#this close to assign myself the task of “built a searchable database for this”#just a small lil thing#for my own sanity if not for theirs

i saw this post and decided that i had some time spare, i could give AI another go. (link to post https://www.tumblr.com/dibelonious/778852078032404480/now-that-ai-made-troubleshooting-ridiculously. dont harass the poor old sod obviously.)
i hear a lot of people irl at uni and some online say ai is great for coding, and so every couple months i try it out. sometimes with a very small project in a popular language (python or c, usually. though im forgiveful with c as everyone fucks up c.), sometimes with something simple (i.e. a couple lines tops with a naive approach if written idiomatically) but in a more unusual language with full documentation online. (like sed! yay!)
but every single time i come to the conclusion that even with being handheld chatgpt could not do what it was asked to do. even if someone tells it every issue in its outputs, itll remember for only one prompt. even if someone tells it the solution, itll find a new way to fuck it up.
below the cut is me trying to get chatgpt to make a working sed script that prints "meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..." (long post warning)
(if anything reads weirdly, this was originally a reblog to the screenshotted post, then i decided to make it its own post. so that may be why.)
i cant remember the last time i ran into an issue that i couldnt fix in like ... 5 minutes. but knowing what chatgpt is like, any ask i give it will give me issues to troubleshoot. (yes this example is code, not linux proper. but its more of the same doing that.)
the other day i decided to write "meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....." in many different languages, after seeing @brainfuck-official do it in BF. (link to post https://www.tumblr.com/brainfuck-official/773510105608192000) as is my blog, i asked it to do this in sed.
great! this script doesnt work! it doesnt even come *close* to working, giving me plenty to try out chatgpt's troubleshooting skills! it also just doesnt make much sense. why the shebang but not making it executable? and why are the flags different (ones -f, ones -nf). also a counter? why though? thats not what im asking for? (you can see tags for a brief explanation on how to add a counter)
after telling it the script doesnt work (and why, something someone troubleshooting likely wont know) it just adds in a P. a command that prints a damn newline. but it lies about it printing a newline.
(if you dont believe it prints a trailing newline and believe the AI instead, just try echo -n foo | sed -n 'P ; P')
anyways it alternated between no print statements and printing with newlines for the next ... 8 prompts, by which time i felt sorry for the poor bugger and told it to use e to print without a newline.
all the while it was trying to be more useful and add a count - making it print my string after n repeats instead of the infinite that i asked for. it was trying to subtract 1 with effectively s/[0-9]+/&-1/ which just appends the string "-1" to a number!
anyways, i tell it to use "the e command". there are three different versions of the e command in sed, and only one of them makes sense here. which did chatgpt use? none! it used the e regex modifier! which executes your pattern hold, then turns the output into the new pattern hold. and does not print anything.
ill just screenshot the last couple interactions minus only the useless exposition it adds to every response so you can see how stupid it is
ignoring sed's requirement for an input this is equivalent to the python
to be fair i never said there shouldnt be infinite meows, and this does have infinite Ws. but come the fuck on. this is clearly not whats being asked for.
#linux is best - yes. but learn to troubleshoot properly.#blindly copying code online without understanding it isnt troubleshooting.#regardless if that code came from stackoverflow or chatgpt.#anyways maybe it wouldve been better to write the equivalent in C with gotos and labels?#but at least everyone knows python#and i dont need to write c this way#also decided to see if it could find any info about me if i give it my name and county of origin#which is identifiable information but its outdated as ive changed my name (trans :3) and moved away.#anyways it thought i was from l*nd*n.#i told it where i was from (West Country. Very Much Not london.) and it thought i was a londoner. what in the hell.#yes if i said the name of most counties to an american online theyd probably think its in london.#but thats before they google the damn place! and this bot has access to the whole internet!#(for the yanks: it did the equivalent of calling an appalachian a californian)#(or at least i think thats close enough. im not really all that sure about what happens over the pond. and i like my ignorance here.)#wait the documentation tells you how to make a counter. at least twice.#IT COULD COPY CODE FROM THE INFO PAGES FOR THE COUNTER AND IT STILL GOT IT WRONG EVEN AFTER BEING TOLD WHY ITS WRONG#oh my god.#anyways in the docs they wanted to print the number. you can just hold n chars and remove one each loop#then break the loop when your hold is empty.#thats the easiest way ive found of looping n times (if you need the hold do this on a prepended line)#(not efficient but you can make it more efficient if you want. the docs explain how to! but its more effort and easy to fuck up soooooo...)#printing n ws though? just use e printf like it bloody demonstrates itself#no need to do inefficient shit in sed when someones written it in c for you.
