One of the things I love about kdramas is that it really subverts what masculinity is supposed to be. You see the loser who's down bad for the female lead (Lovely runner, queen of tears, Love Next Door, Strong Girl Do Bong Soon, the Judge from Hell), you see the soft masculinity in hometown cha cha cha, summer strike and Doctor Slump and extraordinary attorney woo, the protective kind of masculinity in any of Ji Chang Wook's and Ahn Bo Hyun's works, the reassured and confident masculinity of Seo Kang Joon in Undercover High school and Lee Jun Hyuk in Love scout, the playful masculinity in Twinkling Watermelon and Crash Course in Romance, the stoic but gentle masculinity in Doctor Romantic and Hierarchy, and the "I care about you and only you" kind of masculinity in Vincenzo to name a few.
This is progress from the old kdramas and I get that it's fictional and in real life, some of these actors are assholes. But in the era where Toxic masculinity is rampant, I think we can turn towards kdrama to have some inkling of what kind of man we should strive to be and what kind of man we should want. This should not something we see only in fiction. We should raise our sons (I'm 21) to be like this so that one day it's not just a concept for fictional love stories.

Dr. Romantic Series
Tumblr media
Rewatching these three seasons one after the other has helped me appreciate the details I missed when watching each after the years of separation. I loved going back to the first one and then seeing that Kim Sabu kept in contact with Kang Dong Joo, Yoo Seo Jung and Do In Beom now that they were doing different things. I also made the connection between the mother of the paramedic in season 2 with season 3 as she appeared now and we can see her relationship with Seo Woo Jin. And of course the return of Kang Don Joo and Yoo Seo Jung is so much sweeter! I really love this series. Each season brings something new and just watching how Kim Sabu helps each of his students become better doctors and nurses, it warms my heart. The relationship between them all, the friendships and their love for what they do is in deed a beautiful romance.

UPRISING
GENRES: Historical, Action
SUMMARY: When you’re born into Joseon slavery, you’ll stop at nothing to find a way out.
THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: Switches, abhorrent paternity laws, sparring, branding, fog fighting, crow dinners, greed, royal insanity, hunters, rock-throwing, questionable friendships, true friendships, robes, invasions, and loyalty.
HOT TAKE: The plot of this movie was swift and succinct, perhaps to the detriment of its believability. The action scenes were excellent, the cinematography was epic, and the resolution of the third act big-boss fight was one of the best I've seen in a while. Also, some great long-overdue comeuppance for a King that should have just shut the hell up.
That being said, our main characters were a little unmotivated, there were more 'Monty Python-esque' limbs severed than I was expecting, and some real hard choices to be made--ones I'm not sure I would have been strong enough to execute.

DR. ROMANTIC 3 // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 8,4 Benim puanım: 9
Drama: Dr. Romantic 3
Hangul:
Director: Yu In-Sik
Writer: Kang Eun-Kyung
Episodes: 16
Date: 2023
Cast: Han Suk-Kyu, Ahn Hyo-Seop, Lee Sung-Kyung, Byeon Woo-Min, So Ju-Yeon, Kim Joo-Hun, Lee Sin-Young, Yoo Yeon-Seok, Kim Min-Jae, Jin Kyung, Lim Won-Hee
OST:
Doldams - Thank you for the memories
Doctor Romantic 3 was a series I personally anticipated with great excitement. I have to admit—I have a soft spot for medical dramas. This season offered not only continuity in the storyline but also a sense of nostalgia and emotional connection through the return of familiar faces. Compared to previous seasons, the team felt more mature, both in terms of storytelling and character development. Alongside new cast members, seeing characters from the first two seasons was incredibly enjoyable and exciting for me. It truly felt like reuniting with old friends.
The third season tackled Doldam Hospital’s universal struggle from a broader perspective. It wasn’t just about personal conflicts or internal hospital politics anymore—it portrayed the bigger picture of the healthcare system and how this small hospital became a symbol of resistance and hope. Under Professor Kim’s (Han Suk-Kyu) leadership, saving lives wasn’t the only focus; standing up against systemic challenges also took center stage. The return of characters like Kang Dong-Ju (Yoo Yeon-Seok) from Season 1 and Seo Woo-Jin (Ahn Hyo-Seop) from Season 2 added significant emotional depth and continuity to the narrative. My only criticism? Kang Dong-Ju appeared far too late. I was thrilled when news broke about his return this season, but honestly, it wasn't enough to call it a proper comeback. I wouldn’t even say he was a guest appearance—it just didn’t satisfy me.
That said, seeing a familiar face from the original lineup was still gratifying. Watching Kang Dong-Ju transition into a leadership role and realizing he hadn’t lost any of the spark from Season 1 was a real treat. The evolving bond between Seo Woo-Jin and Cha Eun-Jae (Lee Sung-Kyung) was one of the season’s highlights. Meanwhile, the unwavering trust between Professor Kim and Head Nurse Oh Myung-Sim (Jin Kyung), as well as the quiet but powerful presence of Park Eun-Tak (played by Kim Min-Jae), continued to be some of the show’s strongest points.
Another noticeable element this season was the addition of new young doctors. These characters revitalized the hospital dynamic and helped reinforce both Professor Kim’s leadership and the veteran staff’s expertise. The small personal storylines given to each of them allowed viewers to connect with and embrace the newcomers more easily.
While the patient-centered stories continued the show’s classic formula, this season delivered them in a more dramatic and impactful manner. Still, the true heart of the story lay in the personal battles fought by the Doldam staff. We witnessed not only their professional growth but also their development as individuals.
Doctor Romantic has evolved beyond being just a medical drama—it now touches on social issues and emphasizes individuals’ struggles within the system. This season struck a beautiful balance of nostalgia and freshness by revisiting past characters while introducing meaningful new arcs. Even the final scenes didn’t feel like a farewell—they carried a quiet hope for continuation. And if a fourth season ever comes, I’d absolutely love to see Professor Kim and the Doldam team once again.
