as the 19 day baha’í fast ends, i think it’s important to keep turning our thoughts to the palestinians who are hungry right now in gaza, not because they are choosing to fast, but because they are being actively starved in an attempted genocide by the israeli occupation. please consider donating to the palestinian children's relief fund today. have a happy and blessed naw-rúz 🪷

Quote
On this blessed day of Naw-Rúz, our hearts are drawn ever closer to you. This is a happy and joyous season. The fields and meadows are adorned with blossoms, and the air is fragrant with their perfume. In the northern hemisphere, nature stirs with new life, arrayed in spectacular beauty. The world of existence is rejuvenated, and all created things are in a state of motion and change.
The Universal House of Justice, in a message to the Iranian Bahá’ís, 21 March 2010

Happy Naw-Rúz! (Happy New Year!)   Glorified art Thou, O God of all names and Creator of the heavens! I render Thee thanks that Thou hast made known unto Thy servants this Day whereon the river that is life indeed hath flowed forth from the fingers of Thy bounty, and the springtime of Thy revelation and Thy presence hath appeared through Thy manifestation unto all who are in Thy heaven and all who are on Thy earth. 19 months and 19 days makes the Bahá'í calendar - and it also starts today
Naw-Rúz might sound remarkably similar to Nowruz. And that is because because it is - the word, along with the celebration, has been around for centuries, translated and mutated by different dialects, its roots in the Persian words for new day, and for light.
But Naw-Rúz, the Bahá'í new year is a distinct new year. It celebrates the calendar that forms the basis of the Bahá'í year, as instituted when the religion was founded in the 1840s.
I have friends that celebrate Bahá'í new year, so I'm going to update this blog post once have spoken to them. I love the internet, but a real person beats it any day. So, watch this space. And meanwhile
Happy New Year
