Tutorial: Customize Header & Avatar on Your Theme Page

When customizing our header and avatar image, we usually go to our “Edit Appearance” page. But there comes a few problems, such as if you have HTML tags in your description, they would disappear once you update your appearance. Secondly, it seems that it’s impossible to upload gif header on the edit appearance page (at least that’s what I’ve encountered) 

Therefore it would be much easier to change your header and avatar on your theme customize page. Question is, if you’re not using the default theme, there’s usually no such options. So what can we do?

The solution is pretty easy. As long as the variable tags for the options are in your code, they would appear on your customize page. You might say, but I don’t need them in my code! Actually, all you need to do is something like this:

And put them at wherever you want in your code (for example, I put them before </head>), which will do no harm to your theme at all. Then, you will see these options on your customize page:

The Facebook header size is changing and I looked into it a little more. It turns out Facebook is optimising it’s current FB page headers for mobile and video so now instead of the header being cropped when viewed on the mobile it will be the other way around. The new dimes Zion’s are 1920px by 1080px, standard video dimensions. The cropping will take place on the desktop instead of the mobile which means that FB is thinking mobile for best user experience first. Otro tip de diseño:

Puedes usar la imagen de cabecera de tu blog como tu imagen preliminar para compartir en redes sociales como Facebook, Twitter y otras plataformas con soporte para OpenGraph; simplemente copia la siguiente meta-etiqueta y pégala en el encabezado del código de tu sitio (entre las etiquetas <head> y </head>) en el Editor de temas HTML de Tumblr:

<meta property="og:image" content="{HeaderImage}">

(a menos que tu tema actual instalado no la incluya ya por defecto, en cuyo caso puedes buscarla antes presionando Ctrl+F con el editor HTML abierto, sólo para corroborar).

Luego, pulsa en 'Vista previa' y después en 'Guardar' para publicar tus cambios en tiempo real. De ahí en adelante, cada vez que publiques o compartas la dirección URL de tu blog en Facebook, lucirá así:

(excepto en el mismo Tumblr tristemente, xq sospecho que su plataforma de blog no utiliza OpenGraph; ...eso o las dichosas nuevas publicaciones NPF, no he probado en publicaciones de legado).

Nota: Recuerda incluir la meta-etiqueta 'og:image:alt' para describir tu nueva imagen preliminar para temas de accesibilidad visual.

I made the site a little more fancy again as you can see we now have a sticky nav bar and a custom header! very exciting stuff. Because im fucking shit i didnt get position:sticky to work so i had to write my own little function for it in jquery. Enjoy this new revolutionairy browsing experience. – That one guy from IT PS: tumblr doesnt allow the use of proper text editors(atom) so i didnt bother to write clean html/js/css. If you notice anything wrong send this account a msg.
