Palemon and Lavinia
Artist: Henry Singleton (English, 1766–1839)
Date: c. 1792
Medium: Oil paint on canvas
Collection: Tate Britain, London, United Kingdom
Description
This painting illustrates a story from James Thomson’s popular poems The Seasons 1726–1730.
The rural lovers Palemon and Lavinia appear in Thomson’s Autumn; they are adapted from the Biblical story of Ruth and Boaz. Palemon, a gentleman, professes his love for the country girl Lavinia, in a harvest-time setting. Thomson’s sentimental fantasy of rural romance was particularly attractive to a generation brought up on the ideals of Sensibility.

So I think this is the only "Wake up" moment in 1899 where the "wakee's" pupils stay round the whole time (as opposed to going from triangles to normal or vice versa), right? This is from episode 5, about 33 minutes in (after Henry injects her with the black syringe and she wakes up back in her cabin).
I assume this is because Maura didn't experience a memory in that moment, but rather an actual thing that happened to her in real time during the sim. But she still needed the "Wake up" prompt, which is interesting...
I don't know--further thoughts, 1899 hive mind??

I have to think about henrys statement a lot. That life of an avoider is pure bliss and that of a seeker has only a painful path ahead. Because sometimes i really think you are better off not knowing a lot of things.

Inspired by some of the @prometheus-ghost earlier posts, one thought won't leave me alone, and I drilled it into my own mind.
Why does Henry seem to not acknowledge Eyk's existence at all?
I mean, I could be wrong, and I could have missed it over 67 times I've actually seen all the episodes, but I'm pretty sure I'm not.
Henry talks about everyone in general and to some of the characters he faces, but it's a completely different thing for him to not acknowledge, I don't know, Ling Yi for example, or any other character that doesn't directly have to do with him. But not once showing of being aware of Eyk's existence is very, very strange to me.
He's worried about the sim and its run, about the key, the shutdown, Maura waking up, everything. But all these things actually depend on one person, and that person is none other than Eyk. Because he's the strongest link in the sim. It's his decisions everything depends on, story wise and sim wise. Especially when we see Eyk's link to Maura and how much she's bound to him in every way possible, even though she doesn't know why.
I would really like someone else's insight. Maybe someone's noticed something I haven't. But it simply won't leave me alone, because it seems pretty important, and I wanna know the reason.

Not sure who here is still having 1899 thoughts but I have a theory I'm chewing over
That triangle symbol that's everywhere... Dark taught us that Bo and Jantje like a good symbol with structural significance to the show. So I've been wondering what the triange could indicate, and here's my current proposal
(Spoilers for the series below!)
Three keys
You know how in Stranger Things s3 (stay with me) when Joyce and Hopper try and shut down the gate and they need to both turn keys in order to do so, because the system is designed so one person alone can't switch it off? What if the simulation is like that? Maura's key opened one section, but like a puzzle box it's only opened up a new puzzle to open?
I'm playing with the idea that there are two more keys the characters need to find and use to actually break free of the simulation. I just love the idea that to spite Henry's jibe that they keep failing because their emotions get in the way, that actually escape can only be possible with the characters working together.

Ariel on a Bat's Back
Artist: Henry Singleton (English, 1766–1839)
Date: Exhibited 1819
Medium: Oil paint in canvas
Collection: TATE Britain, United Kingdom
Description
This picture depicts Ariel, the magical spirit in Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. It was first exhibited accompanied by lines from Ariel’s last song: ‘On the bat’s back I do fly, After summer, merrily.’ Singleton’s decision to paint this entertaining and theatrical subject was a response to popular tastes of the time. The artist had begun his career as a promising history painter but many felt he did not realise his full potential.
The Tempest Summary
Prospero uses magic to conjure a storm and torment the survivors of a shipwreck, including the King of Naples and Prospero’s treacherous brother, Antonio. Prospero’s slave, Caliban, plots to rid himself of his master, but is thwarted by Prospero’s spirit-servant Ariel. The King’s young son Ferdinand, thought to be dead, falls in love with Prospero’s daughter Miranda. Their celebrations are cut short when Prospero confronts his brother and reveals his identity as the usurped Duke of Milan. The families are reunited and all conflict is resolved. Prospero grants Ariel his freedom and prepares to leave the island.

I've long had a somewhat convoluted theory that Elliot and Sebastian are the same person (the latter being in disguise within the sim), but this visual parallel with Dark just clicked and I...

Dammit, what if Sebastian, Elliot, AND Henry are all the same?? Is this already a theory I'm late to the party on?

Henry Singleton: Stay flexible
“I know a lot of people have very strong and definite plans that they’ve worked out on all kinds of things, but we’re subject to a tremendous number of outside influences and the vast majority of them cannot be predicted. So my idea is to stay flexible.” —Henry Singleton.

The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
dir. Mike Flanagan
“No live organism can continue to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality. Even larks and katydids are supposed by some to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills holding darkness within. It had stood so for a hundred years before my family moved in, and might stand a hundred more. Within, walls stood upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm. Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House. And whatever walked there…walked alone.”
