Some families with kids moved into our apartment complex, and I've been hearing them playing. They're out there creating games with rules that change every time they decide rules should change, running around yelling about things they care about, making bases, telling the world what it is.

I saw one of them with a homemade fox mask and a fox tail climbing a tree, and they looked at me, and I waved back and smiled. Didn't want to interrupt. Don't want to interfere.

But oh, God, the envy and the loss and the longing, to see someone climbing a tree in a paper-plate fox mask, high spring, living entirely in the present tense without thought, and to have every cell of your being respond "that was you once, and never again".

Anyways this is my ranger/druid Leaf, who is a halfling/goblin hybrid that I like to call a Hobling :) Their main companion is a erythristic giant badger named Honey, and they recently met their wildfire spirit in the form of a phoenix, which they named Cináed!
