Review: Lamento stageplay

I've been waiting for a Lamento stageplay since the DRAMAtical Murder stageplay in 2019, so I'm really happy that it's finally real and that I got to watch this one! Since I also wrote a blog post about the sweet pool stageplay, I wanted to write one about the Lamento one too. I really enjoyed it! As usual the pictures I used in this blog are pictures posted by the staff and the official Twitter account! Please check it out if you want to see more.

First of all, this stageplay is pretty long! It's almost three hours long, an hour longer than Nitro+Chiral's previous stageplays. As usual, the first 45 minutes were a bit of a common route in which all the characters appeared. This was mostly the same in every route, but it did change a bit near the ending. After a short 10 minute break, it split into three different routes, so I had to watch three different shows to see all of the endings. It's technically a "musical drama (音楽劇)" which means it combines elements of a stageplay and a musical. I was kind of expecting only the Sanga to sing, but the main characters (Rai, Asato and Bardo) also sing together with Konoe sometimes! My favorite song was probably the opening song, when all of them sung a new version of Itou Kanako's "Lamento" with different lyrics! They also sang a slightly different version at the end of the stageplay. The common route also has two duet songs sung by Rai and Konoe, as Konoe learns about his power as a Sanga.

The new music was really nice, especially the background music. I love how they brought back the composers who made the game's OST to create new songs! I lowkey wish the devils had more songs because whenever they did sing during the opening and ending song of the stageplay, they sounded amazing together! I think it would also be great if they released studio recordings of the songs, as they are always a bit better than the live versions. So far they did already release an album of the instrumental songs which you can buy here, Ototoy shouldn't be region locked, so I think anyone can buy it!

The stage This time the venue was the same as the DRAMAtical Murder stageplay (Shinagawa Stellar Ball), which I've actually been to before, however it looked completely different this time! I liked how they turned the stage into one big forest. Whenever Leaks used his power on Konoe, they used this effect which made the stage look strange and trippy, it was really cool! I also really liked the green light effects they used whenever Konoe would use his Sanga abilities. The screenwriter Uchida Hiroki posted this picture on his Twitter account which kind of gives you an idea what it looked like!

Plot I was curious how they would turn a rather long game into a stageplay, but I think it worked surprisingly well. They kind of skipped over some of the stuff that happens early in the game when Konoe is still in Karou, but they do explain the general story, like the problems caused by the Void and the Sickness. Shui's character also kind of functions as a narrator in the stageplay, similar to Kamiya in the sweet pool stageplay and Virus and Trip in the DRAMAtical Murder stageplay, which is always a nice addition. It's not unusual for fans of the actors to watch stageplays without knowing the original source material, so I think this makes it possible for everyone to enjoy the show, no matter if they're familiar with the game or not.

Now for the different routes, I think all of them were great and the actors definitely put a lot of effort into their roles. Bardo's actor was really funny, especially in the scenes in which he teased Konoe (when he wanted a kiss lol), but I think he also did a great job during the serious scenes! I think Bardo's and Rai's actors had a lot of fun messing around with each other, like jokingly pushing each other, or fighting each other with their tails, which happened during one of the curtain calls people were allowed to record. Asato's actor definitely was a lot more calm compared to these two, but he did a great job at showing Asato's gentle personality! His actor mentioned listening to the drama CDs too including Lamento Love Love Gakuen, doing some extra research! (And for some reason he suddenly got into Togainu no Chi if I look at his Twitter account now...). They ended the stageplay performances on Sunday with Rai's route. Rai's actor, Katou Shou, did an incredible job as Rai during the more emotional scenes, like when Rai insists Konoe finds another Touga because he's afraid he will hurt Konoe. That scene in which Konoe realizes Karou (his hometown) had been completely consumed by the Void was also incredible.

I should probably mention that they showed the good ends only, so no devil endings in this one sadly. Razel's actor agreed that Razel should have his own route because every devil gets quite some scenes depending on the route, but Razel is always kind of left out! Also, can I just say that I absolutely love Froud's stageplay actor, he did such a great job at making the character look intimidating (he's also very tall...) even his voice sounds similar to Froud in the game. I also really liked Leaks' actor, he has a nice deep voice, and Shui's actor liked teasing him sometimes!!

I'm just happy that Lamento has been getting new content again lately, first the webtoon and now the stageplay. You can find lots of pictures and recordings that were taken with permission if you look for the ラメステ hashtag on Twitter! I saw that both Froud's and Konoe's original voice actors (Sasanuma Akira and Hatano Kazutoshi) actually went to watch the stageplay in person. Slow Damage's artist Yamada Uiro, who's also in charge of lots of other official Nitro+Chiral illustrations, also watched the stageplay and drew some new art of it! Always happy to see new Lamento art in the year 2024, I've been enjoying all of the new fanart posted on Twitter as well.

I wonder what stageplay they're planning on doing next, only Slow Damage and Togainu no Chi remain (unless they're planning on bringing Itsuwari no Alkanet or World End's Nightmare back). Next year is Togainu no Chi's 20th anniversary, so I am curious if they are going to release anything new! The director of Nitroplus (Digitaro) also mentioned that N+C is currently working on a new project, though it's currently unknown if it's a new game, Slow Damage fandisc or something else. I guess I will be patient!

Alasan kenapa nonton "Kono Hatsu Koi Wa Fiction"

Sudah sampai episode ke 23 dan sama sekali gak bosen dong 🥺. Jarang banget bisa gak bosen nonton dorama genre school sampai puluhan episode, ini karena menurut aku ceritanya menarik.

Ceritanya sebenarnya simpel tentang kumpulan anak sma, tentang apa yang akan mereka lakukan setelah lulus, pertengkaran antar sahabat dan juga cerita cinta mereka.

Apa yang menarik? Sosok Sobue Hiroki yang gak pernah keliatan wajahnya dan absen dari sejak awal mereka masuk sekolah, sampe aku nyari di Google siapa yang berperan sebagai Sobue, gak ada ternyata 😅.

Sosok misterius Sobue sukses bikin penonton penasaran, aku jadi mikir "jangan-jangan emang gak ada" 😂, tapi tenang guys episodenya masih panjang karena doramanya sampai 40 episode, berharap aja sosok Sobue, tinggi, tampan dan mempesona 😁.

Anw aku juga suka cerita jadiannya Izumi dan Noji, jadi senyum-senyum sendiri liat anak remaja yang baru rasain cinta #uhuk.

Semoga dramanya semakin menarik sampai episode 40, jya nee~~

Crunchyroll, le novità in arrivo annunciate al Virtual Crunchyroll Expo

Nel corso dell’edizione 2021 della Virtual Crunchyroll Expo sono state svelate alcune novità che entreranno a far parte del ricco catalogo anime della piattaforma. Partiamo subito con i nuovi simulcast confermati in vista delle prossime stagioni televisive.

OTTOBRE 2021

MUV LUV-ALTERNATIVE

Atteso adattamento del popolare terzo capitolo della trilogia sviluppata da Âge, che ha dato origine al celebre franchise sci-fi. Uscita in Giappone nel 2006, la visual novel è arrivata in Occidente solo da qualche anno, sbarcando per PC su Steam, tradotta in inglese.  

La storia del legame tra coloro che combattono in un mondo portato al suo limite. In uno degli innumerevoli universi paralleli che esistono nello spazio e nel tempo, l'umanità ha lottato per decenni un lunga guerra contro i BEETA, ostili invasori extraterrestri, usando delle macchine da guerra umanoidi chiamate Tactical Surface Fighters. È una storia di vita e di morte di un'umanità sull'orlo della sua estinzione...

La regia della serie è affidata a Yukio Nishimoto (The Galaxy Railways, Tsukiuta The Animation 2), mentre la sceneggiatura è curata da Tatsuhiko Urahata (Baki, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere). Il character design è ad opera di Takuya Tani (Ms. Koizumi loves ramen noodles, Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn) e le musiche sono composte da Evan Call (Schwarzes Marken, Violet Evergarden). L’adattamento è prodotto dagli studi FLAGSHIP LINE, YUMETA COMPANY (My Sweet Tyrant, Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna) e GRAPHINICA (Record of Ragnarok, Hello World),

THE FARAWAY PALADIN

Serie animata tratta dalla light novel fantasy dal titolo “Saihate no Paladin”, scritta da Kanata Yanagino e illustrata da Kususaga Rin, giunta attualmente al 4° volume, che ha ispirato anche una versione manga curata da Mutsumi Okuhashi (Hai to Gensou no Grimgar).

In una città in rovina popolata dai morti, lontana dalla civiltà, vive un ragazzino umano chiamato Will. È stato cresciuto da tre non morti: l'eroico guerriero scheletro chiamato Blood, la mummia sacerdotessa chiamata Mary e il mago spettrale chiamato Gus. I tre hanno insegnato al ragazzo ciò che sanno e gli hanno dato tutto il loro amore.

Il ragazzo inizia un giorno a chiedersi: "Chi sono?". Will inizierà a scoprire i misteri dei non morti di questa città. Comprenderà l'amore e la pietà degli dei buoni, ma anche la paranoia e la follia di quelli malvagi. E una volta imparato tutto ciò, si cimenterà nella via che porta a divenire paladini.

L’anime è in produzione presso lo studio CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND ENTERTAINMENT (Hatena Illusion, Tsukiuta The Animation 2) ed è diretto da Yuu Nobuta (High School Fleet, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear) e sceneggiato da Tatsuya Takahashi (I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level, Eromanga Sensei). Il design dei personaggi è invece affidato a Koji Haneda (Scared Rider Xechs, Yarichin Bitch-bu).

WORLD'S END HAREM

Serie animata tratta dal manga ecchi sci-fi, scritto da Link e disegnato da Kotaro Shono, edito in Italia da J-POP Manga e conclusosi con il 12° volumetto.

Ambientato nel futuro prossimo, a Tokyo nel 2040. Reito, un ragazzo che soffre di una malattia incurabile, vuole incontrare di nuovo la sua amica d'infanzia Erisa, decide poi di ibernasi per curarla dalla sua malattia. Quando si risveglia cinque anni dopo, nel mondo è in atto una pesante trasformazione. Il MK (Male Killer), virus ha ucciso il 99,9% degli uomini del pianeta. Questo rende il mondo un harem composto da 5 milioni di donne per ogni 5 uomini.

Solo 5 uomini, "Number" sono resistenti al virus MK. Uno di loro è Reito che deve "accoppiarsi" per il bene di ciò che resta dell'umanità. Lo aspetta una vita da harem in questo mondo pandemico. Nello stesso momento, Reito resta coinvolto in una cospirazione globale. Potrà resistere alla tentazione di salvare il mondo?

L’adattamento è in lavorazione presso STUDIO GOKUMI e AXSIZ (Ms. vampire who lives in my neighborhood, Seiren) e alla regia troviamo Yuu Nobuta (High School Fleet, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear), mentre le sceneggiatura sta venendo curata da Tatsuya Takahashi (Domestic Girlfriend, Val x Love). Il character design è ad opera di Masaru Koseki (Happiness!, Demon King Daimao) e le musiche per la colonna sonora sono invece composte da Shigenobu Ookawa (Kurage no Shokudou, Miss Monochrome).

Serie animata basata sulla light novel fantasy di Shinkoshoto, dal titolo “Shikkakumon no Saikyou Kenja”, giunta attualmente al 10° volume in patria. Dal 2017 ne viene serializzata online anche una versione manga, disegnata da Kansho e Hyoko.

La sua forza è limitata dallo stemma con cui è nato, Mathias il più potente saggio del mondo, decide che reincarnarsi è necessario per ottenere una potenza inarrivabile. Dopo la sua rinascita, il ragazzino scopre di essere nato con lo stemma perfetto per essere il combattente magico perfetto, alla prima prova! Sfortunatamente, il mondo in cui è nato ha degli standard atrocemente bassi in quanto a magia e tutti pensano che sia destinato al fallimento. Ora sta a lui provare quanto tutti sbaglino... alla maniera del saggio più potente del mondo!

L’adattamento è diretto da Noriaki Akitaya (Ms. vampire who lives in my neighborhood, ORESUKI: Are you the only one who loves me?) e sceneggiato da Hiroki Uchida (Gamers!, Merc Storia: Mukiryoku no Shounen to Bin no Naka no Shoujo). Il tutto sta venendo prodotto presso lo studio J.C.STAFF (DaMachi, Food Wars! SKELETON KNIGHT IN ANOTHER WORLD

Serie animata basata sulla light novel fantasy isekai dal titolo “Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu”, scritta da Enki Hakari e illustrata da KeG. L’opera ha debuttato nel 2014 e ad ora conta nove volumi publicati in Giappone. Dal 2017 ne viene serializzata online una versione manga, disegnata da Akira Sawano.

Un giorno, un ragazzo si è addormentato giocando a un videogioco... e quando si è svegliato si è trovato in un mondo di gioco nei panni di uno scheletro! Dotato delle armi poderose e dell'armatura del suo avatar, ma intrappolato nell'aspetto terrificante di uno scheletro, Arc si trova in un nuovo e fantastico mondo. L’action love story si basa sul manga “Koroshi Ai” di Fe, lanciato nel 2015 in Giappone e giunto attualmente al 12° volumetto.

La silenziosa e stoica Chateau Dankworth è una cacciatrice di taglie. Il suo obiettivo: Son Ryang-ha, un famigerato assassino noto per aver ucciso 18 ufficiali di alto rango in una sola notte. Mashiro no Oto

I loved Kono Oto Tomare! I'm interested in Japanese music instruments. I'm intrigued to learn more of Shamisen. Its sound is beautiful and unique. Ofc main va is Shimazaki Nobunaga along with Umehara Yuuichirou, Hosoya Yoshimasa, Kaji Yuki and Suzuki Tatsuhisa. So I'm very excited about this one. Possibly going to be this season's jewel/positive surprise.

Can't wait how Moriarty brothers' and their companions' big plan plays out and Sherlock Holmes trying to dig up/solve mysteries and master mind behind the scenes. New PV was intense and new OP is awesome. Excited to hear more of Mycroft's voice (Yasumoto Hiroki).

Comedy/Fantasy, lots of interesting characters. Nice to see how Dragon's house-hunting goes?

Vampires, good cast (e.g. Suwabe Junichi and Hatanaka Tasuku). Intriguing setting: year 1923. Characters seem to be interesting and animation style looks neat.

Romance/Fantasy. Interesting plot, isekai but main character seems interesting. Vas: e.g. Sakurai Takahiro and Eguchi Takuya

Five good looking guys working in the bar and helping clients for their troubles. Animation style looked cool in PV.

My Review of Grand Blue

How did I get into this anime? Well, I heard there were some good reviews about this particular title. It was one of those animes I probably should have watched in summer 2018, but more than likely I was watching some sequel no one remembers.

Iori Kitahara just moved to an ocean-front town to live with his uncle since he lives near Izu University (a school Iori was accepted into). His uncle owns a scuba diving shop that serves as a local hangout for members of the school’s diving club. Little does Iori know that this is a local hangout to get FUCKING SHIT-FACED!!!

I am not making this up. These members drink like it’s going out of business. And usually these drinking binges end up with blackouts and public nudity. In Iori’s case, he got so black-out drunk that he woke up in front of his new university’s courtyard…on the first day of school…only wearing his boxers! I’m beginning to see why Amazon put out an advisory at the beginning of each episode about drinking responsibly. But aside from drinking with a bunch of meat-head senpais, there’s also diving. Yeah, club activity is actually diving into the ocean.

So let’s dive into this college-leveled, binge-drinking club as we meet some interesting characters like, a raging otaku (Kouhei), Iori’s cousin with “Permanent Resting Bitch-face Syndrome” (Chisa), a girl who should get a makeup tutorial on Youtube (Aina), two meat-head senpais (Bukki and Tokki), Drinky McStripsItAll (Azusa), and Chisa’s “loving” older sister (Nanaka).

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: So this is an Anime Prime exclusive, so I doubt I’d be hearing a dub to this any time soon. The sub has quite the line-up of seiyuus including that upcomer I’ve been raving about all 2019, Yuuma Uchida. But a lot of well-known folks like Kana Asumi and Hiroki Yasumoto (who can literally play anything at this point) shine in this anime. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

*Iori is played by Yuuma Uchida (Kyo on Fruits Basket 2019, Uenoyama on Given, Chika on Kono Oto Tomare, Sun on Oresuki, Ash on Banana Fish, and Shirazu on Tokyo Ghoul :re)

*Kouhei is played by Ryouhei Kimura (known for Hinata on Angel Beats, Hachiken on Silver Spoon, Takizawa on Eden of the East, Judar on Magi, Taishi on Tokyo Ghoul, and Hiyori on Free!)

*Chisa is played by Chika Anzai (known for Mina on Attack on Titan)

*Aina is played by Kana Asumi (known for Taneshima on Working!!, Ran on Shugo Chara, Kazakiri on Index, Yuno on Hidamari Sketch, Nagisa on Madoka Magica: Rebellion, and Tachibana on Nisekoi)

FAVORITE CHARACTER: I’m gonna say that after watching all 12 episodes; Aina (a.k.a. Cakey) grew on me. Horrible caked-on make-up aside, let’s be real here.

I think it’s because of the development we see with her ever since she was introduced early in the series. We see a girl trying her damndest to fit in with the tennis club only for it to blow up in her face (literally when we’re talking about all that makeup that’s “caked” on her face). Yeah, these guys treated Aina like garbage! But after joining the diving club, we see her be herself and slowly trust those around her. I think it’s more of this character resonating with me in some sad aspect, but I too feel the pain of trying to fit in or not wanting to let anyone down. Anyways, Cakey is my girl!

Poor dear, I feel your pain.

SHIPPING: So Iori is now a college lad and getting smashed eight ways from Sunday. And I’m sure he’s going to have his own picks of the ladies when he isn’t drinking with an otaku and a bunch of meat-heads.

…Or he can get freaky with his blood cousin!

*eyeball twitch*

ANYWAYS, Chisa has made her point clear with the disgusted face she makes whenever she’s around Iori. But in anime terms, we know that she has that classic tsundere syndrome. So when someone like Aina comes into the picture and Iori sticks up for her, jealousy arrives like a fucking A-bomb! Despite Chisa announcing to a wide, public setting that Iori was her boyfriend (while he was passed-out drunk), nothing too scandalous happened with this. It was just so she could keep creepy boys away. Honestly, I really have no problem if Chisa and Iori hook up. It’s actually better than Chisa being with someone who has an unhealthy obsession with her.

I don’t want to say Nanaka has a thing for her baby sister, but this is getting too borderline Yuru Yuri that I have to say something about it.

I’m pretty sure Aina might be a contender after all Iori has done for her throughout the series. It’s just that she can’t stand all that binge-drinking and getting buck-naked at any moment.

And then there’s wild card Azusa! She’s a flirt! What else can I say about her? She teases Iori every chance she gets. Hell, near the finale she tantalized Iori in sex. Wasn’t sure if she was kidding or if she really meant it! However she did shove a leek up Iori’s ass, but that’s because he was sick.

I swear this is normal behavior.

By the end of the series, we really didn’t get much in terms of full-on hookups. Many misunderstandings have occurred involving word-play. Iori, Kouhei, and their band of geeky friends are still virgins (though one of them came very close to sealing the deal). One of the meat-heads has a girlfriend (did not see that one coming). But on a positive note, Chisa and Iori’s friendship has been pretty steady. I wonder how long that’ll last!

ANIMATION: I gotta say it, the facial expressions on these characters were a laugh-riot. It wasn’t like this was pathetically sad that I have to laugh at it. But more of how expressive these characters got when they have to express hatred or disgust! This is more for comical expense and I happened to like it. It’s like with the anime Prison School, all the facial expressions worked in their favor. This, while out of place some of the time, never fails to make me laugh.

ANIME REFERENCE: While shopping for gear for an upcoming diving expedition, Kouhei came across two suits that would make any old-school otaku squeal.

The suits of Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion in diving suit form. And Kouhei got Chisa and Aina to try them on!

ENDING: At the end of episode 9, the diving club is heading to Okinawa for a special trip that is promised we will never forget. They made sure of that when the anime gives us a two-minute preview of what to look forward to in these final three episodes. Just be warned a lot of things mentioned really didn’t happen. It almost felt like one of those gag previews Gintama is notorious for.

Well Iori, Kouhei, and Aina are going to attempt at getting their divers license so that they can go even further down the ocean. It seemed like all three were doing pretty well when it came to the basics of diving underwater. However, it was quickly noticed by Nanaka that Iori was having trouble keeping water out of his goggles and that could result in immediate failure. So Iori practices all night (with help from Chisa and Aina). However, Iori ended up in some trouble when a patrolling policeman comes upon him in the pool. And Iori spent the rest of the night in the water because he was naked.

Because I’d be concerned if he wasn’t naked!

Well, the next morning, he caught a cold. Then dumbass thinks it’s a good idea to get rid of a cold by drinking vodka.

Because I’d be concerned if he wasn’t drinking!

And as a result he ended up missing his chance for obtaining his diving license. Kouhei and Aina were able to get their licenses. So the big diving expedition of Okinawa is about to commence and Iori has to sit this one out. But he remains hopeful to one day dive with his friends in Okinawa. After all that, the group travels to another spot and get fucking hammered. You all see the theme to this series, right?

But the last few episodes gave us a few moments involving Kouhei and Aina. Kouhei ended up stumbling into this group on accident (much like Iori), but discovered how much fun he had (aside from getting drunk as a skunk night after night). As for Aina, she learned that despite the diving club being full of a bunch of drunken meat-heads, these people care about her (unlike the previous club she belonged to).

So it was a memorable trip.

This was absolutely NOT what I expected when I picked up this anime. I notice Grand Blue being taken place in a cute ocean town and thought it would be just as cute as Tsuritama. But it turned out to be the anime equivelant of Animal House. I can easily tell you that my college years were NOTHING LIKE THIS.

Despite going to school in a state where the drunk-driving rate is sky-high, I did not witness any strange anomalies like arriving on campus and seeing a bunch of drunk, naked lads sprawled across the courtyard.

Now then, I do feel like this series could have focused a little more on diving and oceanography. It felt like the majority of the series involved characters binge-drinking, meat-heads fighting with tennis club members, more binge-drinking, sad geeks never getting laid, studying for a German test where you only get 20%, and drinking more than Sterling Archer. Not so much on the ocean like I would have hoped. And even though Iori gets the short-end of the stick in almost every episode, I do feel bad that he couldn’t join the rest of the club under water in the finale. That felt a little disheartening, but that’s just me. Short answer, I like this anime! If you’re in for a good laugh and are not turned off by all the drinking and nudity, I say go for it.

For what it’s worth, it’s a silly adventure I can see myself rewatching one or two more times. And if you’re interested in watching, Amazon Prime has all 12 episodes available for streaming.

Okay, this was quite the trip! Let’s pick our next Amazon/Netflix/Crunchyroll exclusive anime!
