Mistakes I've found in the SAFT LN english translation:

I've discovered that there are some typos in the official english translation by Yen Press and it's been bothering me.

1. Volume #1: When Anne gives Challe his wing back, the text says that it's been 7 years since he had it in his hands. But it's actually 70.

How long has it been since I held my wing in my own hands? Seven years… No, I feel like it’s been longer.

2. Volume #3: When Anne is talking with Kat in the Radcliffe Workshop where they were refining the silver sugar, about the religion of the Kingom and why women weren't allowed to be sugar crafters, Kat's name gets changed to Keith one time. Keith isn't even on that scene! Why is the translator not paying enough attention? 😭

3. Volume #5: When Challe faces Lafalle at the end of the vol, their names get mixed one time after Lafalle reveals his true identity:

But now, thanks to the sugar candy made by the Silver Sugar Viscount my strenght is entirely restored! Look, I'm able to fight, like this." A silver blade had appeared in Challe's hand, too. It should said Challe, not Lafalle. Even in the anime Challe is the one who says that. And logically it should be Challe speaking that dialogue because Lafalle is the one who revealed his identity.

This is dissapointing, I wonder what other mistakes they will make in future vols. 😒 These typos are easy to spot, but I hope they don't make more.

Marionetta is somehow shaping up to be way better than Hooky in almost every way. The depth of the story and characters, the world, the gravity, the levity…

And I say this as someone who loves Hooky and owns all 3 physical volumes.

Books I've read this year (so far)

Since I did this for movies, I might as well do it for books. Also, I watched a video where someone was saying that we always perform when we post out thoughts publicly and that is true at least for me. I am mentioning this because I intend to keep my full reviews private in my journals. That doesn't mean I can't give a short sentence about my enjoyment of the media I consume though. I am not including rereads.

Hooky volume 2 by Máriam Bonastre Tur - I am so into this. This comic is so fun and reminds me of stuff I watched as a teen. The art is also adorable. Too bad we decided to imitate the french and we will have 6 volumes instead of 3 (if they sell). I am still waiting for more. Could I read it on webtoons? Yes. But, I prefer to binge and not have to wait and see ads.

Westmark by Lloyd Alexander - Good, but I was bored at times. I certainly prefered Prydain. However, I am curious about where the plot is going so I might continue the trilogy someday.

The New Girl by Cassandra Calin - I love the author's short comics about her life, but this wasn't really my thing. At this point I am not interested in high school plots. I guess I am too old for that.

The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson - I really enjoyed this and intend to read more books by the author. It feels like a new fairy tale.

A Guest in the House by Emily Carroll - Good, with a twist. I prefered the short stories in Through the Woods though.

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare - I liked it, but it's far from the best of his plays and I wish there was more context to understand the characters' actions and feelings.

When we were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro - So far, the novel I like the least by this author. Could take it or leave it, really. I only have one of his novels left (The Unconsoled).

O Outro Lado de Z e Conversas de Banda Desenhada - A portuguese comic and a book about portuguese comic artists. Both average, but there is a comic artist that I like being interviewed in the last book and that was the best part of it.

Slewfoot by Brom -I enjoyed it and the art is amazing, but I still don't think I will read any other of his works.

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins - Too many callbacks and lacks original stuff that all the other books in the series before it provided. I was a bit disappointed, but it was still good because I can't help but like some characters and the messages.

Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett - Unfortunately, one of the Discworld books I like the least so far. It is okay.

E Depois do Abril by André Mateus e Filipe Duarte - A pretty good and short portuguese comic about our most famous revolution.

The Ballad of Reading Gaol by Oscar Wilde - I love a lot of Wilde's works, but he is not a great poet... That said, this is probably his best poem and it manages to be actually good if repetitive.

hows a guy get into new order? i like a lot of their singles(?) (dont quite know where the songs are from they just show up sometimes and Are Good) but whenever i listen to a full album i go "ahhh, this isnt it" and i assume that is because i am listening to the wrong albums. Hello beloved anon you have come to the right place. Only a year ago I had no idea what any of New Order was about and now I know too much. You too can know too much

There's two ways you can go about this:

Listen to a few compilation albums and ease into it

Full immersion experience

Part the 1: normal people method

I'll start off with the first one. I have two compilation albums that I recommend, Substance and TOTAL. Here they are on Spotify:

Funnily enough, Substance was released specifically so people could be exposed to New Order. It's a compilation of all their singles, which are some of their best songs in my opinion. It should be noted that for a lot of New Order's history, their singles were standalone and not included on albums. Disc 1 (Ceremony to True Faith) is the A-sides, Disc 2 (In a Lonely Place to 1963) is the B-sides.

TOTAL is another compilation album, it also includes a few Joy Division tracks, I don't know if you also want to get into Joy Division, but it's good for that too. It's (relatively) short and sweet and gets you through all their greatest stuff.

Once you love the singles, if you still want to get into the albums, I would recommend Power, Corruption & Lies first. It's from the same era as Blue Monday, and is quite similar in tone (5 8 6 literally has elements of Blue Monday in it).

Technique is also a great album, a lot more electronic heavy, which may be more up to your speed if you like The Other Two.

Part the 2: I am not normal about things

So I went with this method because I wanted to know all the lore of Joy Division and New Order so I could Understand them. And, as it turned out, the best way to do that was to read the autobiographies, and listen along to the albums when prompted.

Here is the order that I read them in:

Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division by Peter Hook (has an audiobook version too)

Substance: Inside New Order by Peter Hook

Chapter and Verse: New Order, Joy Division and Me by Bernard Sumner

Record Play Pause: Confessions of a Post-Punk Percussionist: The Joy Division Years by Stephen Morris (has an audiobook version)

Fast Forward: Confessions of a Post-Punk Percussionist: Volume II by Stephen Morris (has an audiobook version)

You can also read Peter Hook's autobiography about the Hacienda and some other Joy Division related books if you like.

If you don't want to buy them, the first three books listed here are available on Archive.org. They are also all available from someone named Anna.

As I mentioned above, Hooky (Peter Hook) was very comprehensive with his autobiographies. In both books listed above, he does a track-by-track analysis of every Joy Division and New Order album. I recommend reading, then listening along to the albums when you reach each track-by-track section. (okay admittedly there are a few albums he doesn't cover because Hooky is just Like That but at that point you'll be fine to listen to them on your own)

Then I recommend reading Bernard's book so you can see another perspective, and find out that Hooky is a wanker.

Then I recommend reading Stephen's books because he reveals that both Hooky and Bernard were in some sort of toxic situationship the whole time.

After that point, feel free to listen to the Transmissions podcast.
