The Future of Media Buying: Trends to Watch in 2025
In the ever-evolving landscape of digital advertising, media buying has undergone a seismic shift. Gone are the days when placing a few banner ads or securing TV spots was enough. Today, data, automation, personalization, and ROI are at the heart of every media buying decision. As we move into 2025, businesses must keep pace with the latest trends or risk falling behind in an increasingly competitive digital economy.
At Impression Media, we’ve been at the forefront of digital transformation, helping brands tap into cutting-edge tools and smarter strategies. Based on our experience and market insights, here’s a look at the key trends shaping the future of media buying in 2025.
1. AI-Driven Media Buying is the New Standard
Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept — it’s now a critical component of campaign planning and optimization. In 2025, AI-powered platforms will dominate digital ad buying, helping marketers:
Analyze massive datasets in real-time
Predict consumer behavior
Automatically adjust budgets and placements for better performance
At Impression Media, we use AI-based tools to monitor campaigns 24/7, allowing us to scale what works and cut what doesn’t — instantly. This level of intelligence and automation ensures that ad spend is always optimized for maximum ROI.
2. Privacy-First Marketing in a Cookieless World
With Google phasing out third-party cookies and regulations like GDPR and CCPA strengthening, privacy-first marketing has become essential. In 2025, advertisers are shifting toward:
First-party data strategies
Contextual targeting
Privacy-friendly identifiers like Unified ID 2.0
We’re helping brands build ethical, permission-based relationships with customers. This includes using secure CRMs, transparent consent management, and opt-in campaigns that create value for both users and advertisers.
3. The Boom of Retail Media Networks
Retail giants like Amazon, Walmart, and regional e-commerce players are launching retail media networks (RMNs) — offering brands high-intent advertising opportunities directly on their platforms.
Retail media is growing fast in 2025 because it delivers:
Purchase-ready audiences
First-party shopper data
Direct attribution and ROI tracking
Impression Media helps clients tap into these networks, from Amazon Ads to local e-commerce platforms, providing campaign strategies that convert visibility into revenue.
4. Omnichannel Campaigns Are a Must
Today’s consumers don’t just interact with one channel. They browse Instagram on mobile, stream YouTube on TV, and shop on tablets — sometimes all in one day.
In 2025, successful media buying requires a truly omnichannel strategy that:
Maintains consistent brand messaging
Optimizes creatives per platform
Tracks cross-platform behavior and conversions
At Impression Media, we specialize in cross-channel media buying, ensuring your message meets your audience wherever they are — and drives action.
5. CTV and Digital Audio Are Exploding
Connected TV (CTV) platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube TV have revolutionized how people consume content. Unlike traditional TV, CTV offers targeted, interactive ad placements. Similarly, audio platforms like Spotify and podcasts are emerging as powerful media channels.
In 2025:
Advertisers will invest heavily in streaming and audio ads
Ads will be dynamically inserted and personalized
Attribution for CTV and audio will become more robust
We’re helping clients integrate CTV and digital audio into their media mix, increasing reach and relevance with cutting-edge tools and measurement techniques.
6. Personalization at Scale Using Dynamic Creatives
Generic ads don’t cut it anymore. Today’s users expect brands to speak directly to their needs. Tools like Dynamic Creative Optimization (DCO) allow brands to deliver thousands of personalized ad versions automatically.
In 2025, personalized creative will be:
Based on demographics, behavior, location, or interests
Optimized in real time for better engagement
Automated using AI and machine learning
Impression Media uses DCO and behavioral data to deliver hyper-relevant ad creatives, boosting engagement and conversion rates while reducing manual effort.
7. Performance Is the Real Metric, Not Just Impressions
Marketing leaders are demanding more transparency and measurable outcomes. It’s no longer enough to show how many people saw your ad. In 2025, you need to show what actions they took.
There’s a shift toward:
Performance-based buying models
Server-side tracking and conversion APIs
First-party data for attribution
Impression Media builds custom dashboards that track every step of the user journey — from ad impression to final sale — giving clients clear ROI visibility on every campaign.
8. Ethical & Inclusive Media Buying Gains Momentum
Modern audiences care about more than the product — they care about who you are and what you stand for. Ethical media buying reflects a commitment to:
Avoid harmful or fake news websites
Support diverse and local publishers
Use ad spend for positive social impact
At Impression Media, we align brands with purpose-driven platforms that reflect their values — creating both brand trust and long-term loyalty.
Final Thoughts: Navigating Media Buying in 2025
The future of media buying is fast, automated, data-rich, and privacy-conscious. Whether you’re a startup or a Fortune 500 brand, adapting to these trends is non-negotiable if you want to stay competitive.
Impression Media is here to guide you through this transformation. We help you unlock smarter ad strategies, access high-converting channels, and measure what truly matters — your business results.

Why Did I Start VSRD?
Early 2021, I was prepped and bound for Tokyo with my dear wife and so ready to indulge in a pile of nerdy culture. Coming home, I was so ready to dive head first into DnD and TTRPGs. A new passion, burning inside of me.
I’d been digging at the music scene for 10 years and was more than ready to jump ship for something that would inspire me once again. What with covid on the horizon and people jumping online to play DnD games with their friends, it was the perfect time to become a homebrewer.
Imagine this: having an old hard drive from 2006 with a weird, psuedo-rpg that I tried playing with my friends, as well as notes for a single DnD game I ran at the end of that year. Imagine having notes for a whole, fantasy world in a notebook you took on holiday and going: maybe I can make something of this!
So, I changed all my handles to an alias of my own making and set about writing 5th edition homebrew for “Vagrant Sun: Volume 1- Obelisk”.
From then until about mid-2022, I was writing constantly. Races, subclasses, origins, factions, monster stats, encounters, magic items and a whole, goddamn newsletter that I was posting on Patreon every day of the week. I’d even published a bunch of things to DM’s Guild and managed to make enough to pay my small-business bills, buy some art assets and make something of myself.
Scoot ahead to the start of 2023 when suddenly, Open 5e, OGL 2.0, Open SRD and the like are shooting across the internet. An all out war with Dungeons & Dragons, Hasbro and WOTC. A violent thrash for the heart of the game; between players and corporations. I’d made hundreds of new, creative friends over that time. Worked with some of the coolest people I’ve ever met and made those spaces we inhabit much safer for newer, disadvantaged people.
And over the course of a few months, they left. Many moving on to full time work, elsewhere. The internet wasn’t a safe or habitable place to be for an Indie TTRPG creator. If you were queer, disabled or even remotely socially inclined, you had a target on your back. Many people made the right decision for their health and safety and moved onto greener pastures.
But- at the same time- I found my work on DM’s Guild had been de-listed. All this homebrew content that was inspired by and applicable for non “Vagrant Sun” settings was suddenly too much of a side-step from the kind of content they were going to publish that I’d all but lost that form of income.
People came and went. My patreon rose and fell and over the course of 6 months, I’d fallen out of touch with everything that I’d enjoyed about TTRPG spaces. The rising up, the encouragement, the vacuous and avalanche-like sharing of each other’s work. The unmitigated support. It was much harder to come by.
But I’d made my decision. I had 5 years worth of work under my belt and a bounty of practice. I had simply come to far to give up now.
But where do I go when I have a love-hate relationship with the game that started it all AND I’d have to start from scratch?
Well, digging out those old hard drives again, I had resurrected the bones of a game. One that only ever had one session. One that started out as an idea to roll some dice with friends and family and that gave me the opportunity just to write. Simply to put pen to paper and tell stories that, maybe, no one would ever hear.
And by mid- 2023, I’d released the first playtest for VSRD. Just a character sheet- nothing more. A module you could plug into another d20 game of your choosing. I didn’t have any plans beyond posting a couple of ideas and seeing what people thought.
But the handful of people that liked and supported it- that handed me a few dollars for my time- lit a little fire under me. How could I hope to compete with brilliant creators who’d been making games since before I’d left high school? Designers with impeccable taste and a gift for art like I’d never have. Let alone the deathly whale that is WOTC and whatever AI-scripted garbage they wanted the masses to buy.
And yet, little by little, inch by inch, I’ve been able to keep working. Paycheck to paycheck. Story to story. Edit to draft to re-export to upload, there’s been a continuous line of encouragements that have kept me putting pen to the page.
And now, a soundtrack and 10 playtests deep, I’m beginning to see why this is so important.
It’s like a protest- longing for all the things we used to have as TTRPG fans. What it used to mean to be a DnD or a fantasy nerd. What it means to indulge in fiction with your imagination and not your wallet. How it is when all we have are a few hours and a willingness to take part in a little imaginative story-telling.
So that’s how I got here. It’s why I decided to build a new platform under the name “wøde”. It’s what I’ve become in the wake of building a healthy relationship with my mind, my body, my work and my life. It’s the result of countless, little moments of defiance where, even when the world wanted to topple what matters to me, I’ve not given up.
And I hope you never give up either.
If all you want to be is a creator, an artist or a maker, know that your work is enough. You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. The world is always going to try and throw you to the cobblestones and kick your teeth in.
So make steps to build a new world. That’s what I did. And that’s what I’m going to do.
(complete with typos and run-on sentences, because drafting is for squares when you've got actual drafting to do!)

wøde; they/them. Guest on Nukunu Country. Autistic TTRPG millennial. A Jack of all Spades.

Digital Marketing in 2024
The Rise of AI-Driven Personalization
One of the most prominent trends expected to continue its upward trajectory in 2024 is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for personalization. AI-driven personalization is set to revolutionize how brands engage with their audiences. Marketers will increasingly rely on AI algorithms to analyze vast amounts of data, enabling them to create highly focused and personalized consumer experiences. Whether it's personalized content recommendations or dynamic pricing tactics, AI will be at the forefront, helping organizations enhance customer satisfaction and boost conversion rates. This trend is expected to refine marketing strategies and drive higher levels of engagement and conversion.
Voice Search Optimization
Voice search has been gaining traction, and it's anticipated to be an essential component of digital marketing in 2024. With the proliferation of smart speakers and voice assistants, content optimization for voice search is more critical than ever. Marketers will emphasize the use of long-tail keywords, conversational phrases, and structured data to ensure their content performs well in voice search results. Additionally, voice-activated advertising will continue to grow, offering marketers new opportunities to interact with consumers. This trend underlines the importance of adapting to changing consumer search behaviours.
Augmented Reality (AR) Marketing
While augmented reality (AR) has already made an impact in marketing, 2024 will see its broader adoption and integration. Brands will leverage AR technology to create engaging experiences that allow consumers to visualize products or experiences in real-time. From virtual try-on features in the fashion industry to AR-powered home design simulations, marketers will use AR to enhance engagement, improve conversion rates, and deliver enhanced consumer experiences. This trend will blur the lines between the physical and digital worlds, offering exciting opportunities for creative marketers.
Influencer Marketing 2.0
Influencer marketing is evolving, and 2024 will see significant changes in this space. The focus will shift from macro-influencers with large followings to micro and nano-influencers with smaller yet highly engaged audiences. Authenticity and niche relevance will be prioritized over follower counts. Additionally, AI-powered influencer identification and tracking tools will streamline the influencer marketing process, making it more data-driven and effective. This trend recognizes the power of authentic connections and leverages technology for more precise influencer partnerships.
The Growth of the Metaverse
The concept of the metaverse is generating excitement and anticipation in the digital sphere. The metaverse can be described as a vast, boundless, multiplayer digital realm where people connect, explore, and transact. It's not just a trend but a transformative shift in the technology landscape. With its projected value reaching $678.8 billion by 2030 and over 400 million users, the metaverse holds immense potential for marketers. In the metaverse, marketers have the opportunity to create immersive brand experiences, conduct virtual product launches, and tailor campaigns based on users' digital behaviors. This digital space fosters community-building, leading to enhanced loyalty and engagement. Brands like Nike and H&M have already ventured into the metaverse, engaging millions of users and showcasing the vast potential of this new digital frontier.
Programmatic Advertising's Ascendance
Programmatic advertising is redefining the way brands reach their target audiences. It combines technology and strategy to automate the ad-buying process, ensuring efficient and effective ad placements. Programmatic advertising offers efficiency, real-time automation, and precision. It minimizes errors and maximizes the value for marketers by delivering personalized content to specific user segments. One exemplary case of programmatic advertising is Spotify, which tailors ads to users based on their listening habits and music preferences. The use of user behavior data leads to higher engagement rates and a 20 percent reduction in the cost per acquisition. Whether brands want to run local campaigns or expand globally, programmatic platforms offer flexibility and scalability, adapting swiftly to changing market dynamics. Programmatic advertising represents a new era for digital marketing where data, technology, and strategy converge.

Rain Plays SWTOR: Spirit of Vengeance Survival Walkthrough
As we head toward 7.0, I thought it would be a good idea to check in with a Spirit of Vengeance Survival Guide, 2.0. I have my own feelings about SoV - namely that it's boring, tedious and was tuned way too high for a main story solo flashpoint - but let's move on to the actual guide.
This is a guide specifically for those of you who just want to get this flashpoint over with so you can move on.
I personally would advise trying to knock this flashpoint out of your story progression BEFORE 7.0. We have no idea how hard content is going to be once you lose some of your abilities and utilities, so if you have any characters who are planned to continue with the main story, I'd take them through now while you have all of the tools in your toolbox and are familiar with them.
After literally months of complaints the devs finally toned down this flashpoint to a more manageable level, but there are still a lot of mobs that hit hard, and it's still really long. When I went through with canon Viri and Lana at level 50, with Viri fully geared toward 306, I moved right along through the flashpoint without difficulty or deaths. It still took almost exactly an hour. It's even longer when you're contending with Rass Ordo and a lot of cut scenes.
You will want to gear as well as you can for this - you should not have to since this is a story/solo flashpoint in the main story, but it will help you here. Remember you DO NOT have to group to get good gear. There are numerous solo missions that will give you gear up to 306 - the Mek-Sha Tradehouse missions, Personal Conquest each week, solo flashpoints, including the Onderon weekly and daily missions. Other suggestions:
1. Buy and use the Supplied Kyrprax Command Stim, available at any medical droid in the flashpoint, including the one when you first land on Ship #1. If you're doing this as part of the main story, you unfortunately still have Rass Ordo as your companion. Rass Ordo, despite being influence level 25, still has the AI of a cardboard box. You'd be better off bringing along a Jawagram as your companion. This stim will up your presence for an hour and make him slightly less incompetent.
2. If you can, equip yourself with the Life Warden tactical. This tactical drops fairly frequently from personal conquest and other gold gear boxes. It essentially gives you an extra heal in a tight situation and can come in handy.
3. Medpac on your abilities bar. You hopefully won't need this, but have it handy just in case. You may want to invest in the Supplied Kyprax Med Unit medpac, which will heal you AND your companion.
Within the flashpoint, some general caveats. You're looking at quantity, not quality here. It's just a lot of NPCs piling in on you.
1. KILL THE HEALERS FIRST. KILL THE HEALERS FIRST. KILL THE HEALERS FIRST. Just about every mob here has healers. They have different names on each ship:
- Varad Churl
- Darmanda Medic
- Ashade Lorekeeper
If you don't kill the medics first the fights will be even more interminable. Get rid of them.
2. Remember there are kolto stations in a lot of the rooms, not just the boss areas.
3. Be very careful because there are a lot of mob groups close together. Watch where you are blasting/Force-whatevering because you don't want to pull more than one group at once.
4. Get your gear repaired as often as you can. If you've fought a tough mob and there's a medical droid nearby, go to it and patch up, even if it means you have to backtrack.
5. Get really familiar with any AOE (area of effect) skills you have. Know where they are on your abilities bar and how to use them. Given the mobs in this flashpoint, anything you have that can clobber several NPCs at once is welcome.
Now, here we go.
SHIP #1:
Banquet room: after you fight the first mob and take the elevator, you will find yourself in a large "banquet room" with a lot of mobs. Pick a straight line and go forward, taking care not to veer too far to the sides. If you wander, you'll invariably pull the mobs on the sides of the room.
The rest of this ship is pretty straightforward; it's just a lot of mob NPCs converging on you at once, over and over again.
Gorga Brak: Straightforward; stay out of the red circles. Be aware that Rass Ordo will helpfully stand in these circles and let Gorga set him on fire, so don't expect any help during the fight.
SHIP #2:
More of the same: lots of mobs, now with Dar'manda nameplates. The Dar'manda medics try to hide more than the healers on the other ships, sometimes even going behind crates or other barriers, so keep your eyes peeled for them.
First thing of concern here: after a few rooms of mobs, you will arrive at the notorious jumping puzzle. Just stay on the right side of the room and walk along the beam. There are a few jumps up onto pieces of metal but they are not hard, ambitious jumps. Otherwise you just have two places where you have to make sure your character drops down onto the beam and not into the flames. Angle your camera overhead so you can see what you are doing.

Now it's time to go through the notorious Room After The Kitchen. As the name would suggest, you will know this is coming when you go through the kitchen. All the NPCs in the kitchen are neutral; leave them alone and keep going. The next room is a ballroom and you will find a lot of mobs.

You can get through this room by fighting only two mobs IF you watch where you are fighting and blasting. I like to try to get the first mob up onto the stairs so there's less of a chance that anyone else in the room will be disturbed. Kill the medics first. Then go straight foward - right through the fountain - and up the stairs to the second mob. I again like to try to fight them in their alcove up the stairs so I don't pull the other NPCs in the room.

You will now go down some corridors with more mobs - the space is tight, which in a way is good because you can't aggro more than one mob unless you really try. If you are going for bonus missions there are some rooms here to visit off the main path. If you're just trying to get this damned flashpoint over, continue straight down the hall toward that green arrow.
After taking the elevator you'll get to the tether room, and a yellow message will flash onscreen about it. There will be a very large mob here with a lot of Dar'manda Commander silver NPCs. If Rass Ordo decides to up and die on you, it may be here. Remember there's a kolto station to the immediate right of where you walked into the room.
Click the blue box to release the tether. Do NOT get too close to the rancor in the cage, Goldie. Back when SoV was first released, she'd aggro on you even from in her cage, and you couldn't kill her or get out of combat. They seem to have fixed that bug, but you know how that goes.
Bask Sunn: Kill. The. Medics. First. After that, Bask Sunn has a wicked knockback, but he can't knock you *out* of the ship anymore. Remember Bask Sunn leaves a crate with your loot (look on the bridge), it's not on his person.
SHIP #3:
Your first challenge here will be another room with a lot of intense mobs. Take care not to pull more than one mob at once. Rass may decide to try to die here.

You will quickly reach the sniper room. It's a long room with two snipers by the far doorway, shooting at you. Don't try to engage them; just keep running forward. As you cross this room, you will drop through the floor. It's a long fall but you won't take any damage; it's what the game wants you to do.
Rass will not fall with you, and you will have a room of tentacles to fight on your own. Hit Unity and Heroic Moment BEFORE you fall, when you are still in the sniper room with Rass. You can use your HM abilities against the tentacles. If you really have trouble with them, try to get out of the garbage pit; you will find a kolto station at the top of the small ramp.
Now we come to...oh look, another room with a lot of mobs. They're so creative here. Do your best not to pull more than one at once, kill the medics, you know the drill by now.

Troya Ajak: No special tricks. Stay out of the red circles. Her songbird volley is nasty, but she's perhaps the easiest boss in this flashpoint.
FOURTH SHIP (The Spirit of Vengeance, I think?)
Thankfully this is almost a straight shot to the final boss encounter, and there's a medical droid just before it. You may wish to wait for your Heroic Moment to cool down if you have recently used it.
The silver NPC in the small mob right outside Heta Kol's area sometimes does not die. If you find that they keep recharging to full health, walk past them, put Rass on passive, and wait by the medical droid. They should eventually give up and go back to their original spots and you can go on.
Heta Kol: This fight has mercifully been toned down. There are two stages:
You'll fight Heta Kol straight on. She has a serious knockback, but there aren't any special tricks here.
1. Stage One: fight Heta.
2. Heta disappears and a mob appears at the bottom of the stairs. There are two medics, and the Commanders will have knockbacks to keep you from killing the healers.
3. After all the mob NPCs are defeated, Heta will return. Keep trying to hit her.
4. Heta disappears. This time there's a mob with two gold Varad NPCs and two weaker ones at the stairs, plus two silver Dar'manda snipers on the platform. If you have any AOE skills, make sure they are available here so you can take out as many as possible at once. Accenture FinTech Lab APAC 2021 for FinTech, RegTech, InsureTech Startups and Companies
The FinTech Innovation Lab Asia-Pacific is a highly competitive 12-week challenge-based accelerator program that helps early to growth stage start-ups refine and test their value proposition with the support of the world’s leading financial institutions.
Selected companies receive:
Problem statements provided from the principal financial institutions, as well as coaching from senior executives in the financial sector – offering product feedback and potential deployment of proofs-of-concept Mentoring from Accenture, leading financial institutions and VCs, as well as the Lab’s Entrepreneurs Network and Industry Advisors Speed networking activities with our principal financial institution partners and Accenture senior executives across the APAC region Week-long workshops and panel discussions on broad-ranging topics from industry trends and technology architecture to bank regulation and presentation skills The program culminates in Demo Day, where companies showcase their technology and achieved progress in the program to financial institution executives, investors and journalists
You will have the potential to work towards a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) with one or more of the 20 participating FI’s. They are seeking innovations that to solve the following 6 business challenges:
1. Utilizing communications and new channels for better client engagement
Financial institutions collect massive amount of unstructured textual data from both internal and external communications, e.g. emails, chats, calls, reports, meeting notes and news channels. The content contains valuable information about client preferences, market analysis, seasonality analysis and internal business that can be used to improve products, services and efficiency. However, those data are typically difficult to process: data size is extremely large, data are generally not labelled, different permissions to access across business units.
How can we overcome those challenges and retrieve useful information from those untapped datasets? How can data internally be better managed with the purpose of monetization? How can we complete and enrich Client Data, simplifying IS and storing all relevant data about our Customers for all CIB activities, fed by internal golden sources & external value-added data? How can we provide easy-to-access data and support the Bankers and Sales to improve operational efficiency, time to market & enable new business use cases?
2. Enabling growth in Wealth management in Asia-Pacific especially the Greater Bay Area
COVID-19 is transforming ways of working and client expectations and accelerating the adoption of technology. In such digitalizing banking environment, we would like to develop an all-in-one wealth management platform/app/system for the sake of better customer experience. We aim to solve the problems like customers are not able to fully grasp their investment portfolios and are not able to fully visualise the recommendations that the bank presents to them. We hope to target young generations and let customers to have their own personalize wealth management experience that could easily access our service and enter the market with a single click. For example, customers can experience a ready-made investment portfolio that is based on human expertise and powered by robo-technology. Views on the market could be easily translated into trading instructions and leverage/financing tools could be available based on the market value of the portfolio.
We are also looking at capabilities that enable International relationships and KYC.
3. Optimizing market expansion in insurance services industry
The market of Health insurance is always competitive. On top of allowing customers to buy, self-service and submit claims on digital channels, insurers are offering more values like e-doctor, health tracker& reward program… etc.
What kind of health solution is relevant and unique to our customers, yet easy to implement and integrate with existing systems? How to increase and optimize digital engagement with clients and distributors, for instance, claim AI, product distribution? 4. FinTech solutions to support digital currencies
New forms of money are emerging, be it from private institutions (i.e. diem) or central banks (i.e. CBDC’s)…
How can digital money be used in the wholesale context and how can it be implemented with existing payment rails? Digital assets/tokenization: what are the players that allow distributions/ originations? 5. Solving workforce enablement in a post COVID world
Global Pandemic has created a new wave of work from home norm which has resulted in Financial Institution adjusting to the new norm at a microscopic level.
There will be more and more remote working in future – how can productivity be maximized and how can those productivity gains be measured? Due to the tectonic shift to new norm, the Risk associated with accessing legal entity data remains high . A re-evaluation of risk strategy needs to be done to manage risk arising due to the new norm, which might be prevalent for years. 6. Deploying RegTech solutions to improve compliance efficiency
Global banks belong to a highly regulated industry subjected to a lot of laws, rules, regulations (LRRs). Due to a global bank’s size and geographical dispersion, laws, rules and regulations deemed applicable to one geography, function or line of business may not be fully socialized to another group who also needs to comply to said LRRs. This results in regulatory non-compliance subjecting the bank to fines and other penalties. Using RegTech-related solutions, is there a way to come up with a comprehensive regulatory compliance solution that provides the entire global bank access to all applicable LRRs across many different jurisdictions and banking functions (e.g. asset management, securities, banking, etc.). The solution interface must be able to help global banks perform compliance checks as well as the regulators determine compliance levels of a financial institution. This will automate the very manual process of researching regulations (regulations are in email, excels, etc. and compared manually to its previous versions or other countries) and reviewing the status of compliance (currently multiple teams are involved in the review process via emails), enabling both financial institutions and regulators to refocus their resources to more important functions. Besides, from KYC perspective, the solution interface allows integration of various Bank’s systems or data from control and monitoring systems such as Anti-Money Laundering system, Screening System and Risk Assessment to ensure operation teams will get the singular view of the Legal Entity.
Eligibility
The FinTech Innovation Lab Asia-Pacific is open to all companies, regardless of size, provided you can tick the following boxes:
You have a minimum alpha or beta product to demonstrate and are prepared to share access to program partners under NDA (and where reasonable, for no additional cost) Your senior leadership (Founders/C-level) can commit to participate 80% of the 12-week program activities You can demonstrate that access to senior-level executives in financial institutions will have a meaningful impact on your growth prospects The program will be held virtually, or in person in Hong Kong should the COVID situation allows. *The health and safety of all stakeholders, including participating start-ups, are our highest priority. We will follow directions from international health organizations, local governments as well as Accenture’s own safety and security protocols to ensure that the program will continue in the format and manner that safeguard the best interest of our stakeholders.

While Insta360 continues to dominate any list of "best 360 cameras", it realized long ago that interest in 360-degree video was waning and came up with a compelling use-case for it instead: reframing a shot. That magical ability, combined industry-leading stabilization, and smart software make the latest Insta360 camera both truly unique and ludicrously good fun.
Meet the Insta360 One X2, possibly the most fun camera ever made.
youtube
Insta360 One X2 Design
Almost identical to its predecessor, the One X2 has a distinctive oblong shape with two protruding fish-eye lenses. The images from these stitched together seamlessly on-camera, without requiring additional processing, into a 5.7K 30FPS video. The whole package is about as thick as two smartphones stacked together but slimmer—easily pocket-sized.

A small round touch-screen sits on one side, giving a preview of the video and allowing easy navigation of the options. This is a marked improvement on the monochrome LCD of the original OneX, and it's easily visible on a bright day. Admittedly, a video preview is of questionable utility in a 360-camera, given that you're literally recording everything most of the time, but it's useful in some of the other video modes.

Other than the touchscreen, there are two buttons for operation. A power button sits on one side, with which a long press will power on or off the device. Another button sits underneath the touchscreen, and this can be used to quickly begin recording in a single press. Within a second or two, the camera will wake from a complete power off, begin recording in the standard mode, then power down again with another quick press. It's particularly convenient if you need to capture the moment quickly.

On the other side, you'll find two latching covers. One protects the USB-C port, while the other is a removable battery. The battery lasts for around 80 minutes of continuous shooting, and should it need replacing or you want spares, they can be purchased readily for around $40. In my experience, 80 minutes is enough to get you through a day of occasional use without requiring a supplemental charge.

With the battery is removed, you can also insert a microSD storage card.
The ports and internals are fully sealed when these latches are correctly closed (if you see any orange, they haven't been locked correctly). This results in an IPX8 waterproof rating to 10 meters without any additional hardware.
However, the lenses are still vulnerable to scratches, so don't mistake the waterproof rating for overall ruggedness. I'd recommend grabbing some of the lens protectors if you're playing on using this for action shots.
On the audio side, the One X2 features not one but four microphones, which means it should pick on the subject regardless of where they're standing. It's certainly an improvement, but you'll want to grab the external input adaptor for the best quality audio.
So, The Insta360 One X2 Doesn't Shoot 360-Degree Video?!
Technically, the One X2 shoots in 360-degrees at 5.7K resolution, using the two super-wide angle lenses. If you really wanted to use the raw footage as is, for viewing on a VR capable headset or other 360 application, you could. You can even stream to Facebook in 360. It's certainly good 360-degree footage if you're into that sort of thing.
But that would be ignoring the real Insta360 magic: shoot now, point later. The innovative Insta360 editing apps (for smartphones or desktops) allow you to reframe your shots, stabilize them, change the field of view, deep track a subject, and even use AI to locate and frame interesting parts of the footage automatically.

The final output isn't 360-degrees at all. It's a slick action cam shot or a seemingly impossible floating drone shot. It's like having your own camera crew in your pocket. In reality, all you did was hold the Insta360 OneX2 out on the (invisible) selfie stick and hit record.
For instance, in the screengrab below (taken from the review video), I extended the selfie stick to about a foot in front of the scooter... and stood on it. The selfie stick is automatically stitched out of the sequence, giving the illusion there's a stabilized drone flying just in front of the wheel. It's effortless to get magical videos like this.

Even More Video and Photo Modes
While the One X2's real magic comes into play when you shoot in 360 and use the innovative editing features, that's certainly not all it's capable of. Here are just some of the other incredible video and photo modes you can find on the One X2
"Steadycam" mode, which shoots using only a single lens and produces 2560x1140px resolution stabilized wide-angle video in mp4 format. It's a great option to skip the editing effort and get a standard format video out quickly.
Webcam mode connects to your computer over USB-C and turns the OneX into a webcam, simultaneously showing the view from both the front and back lenses in a split-screen format, perfect for conference calls.
InstaPano photo mode delivers flat panoramic images without any additional processing.
Bullet-Time. If you've seen The Matrix, you should know what a bullet-time video is. And if you haven't seen The Matrix, then you know what you're doing tonight. Using the optional new bullet-time cord accessory, you can spin the One X2 around yourself, keeping you in the center of the frame, while it shoots in a higher frame rate to give the illusion of slowing down time.
The Shot Lab
I admit: I'm not the most creative type of person. I know how to use a camera, but that doesn't mean I can shoot anything even remotely interesting to post on Instagram. It's here that Insta360 has nailed it with the Shot Lab.

Only available on the mobile app, the Stories button at the bottom is where you'll find the Shot Lab. Scroll through the list to find one you like, then click through to be given clear instructions on how to film the sequence, as well as tips for the best results. The Themes tab contains templates that are less strict with their shot requirements (and hence don't have instructions) but still make it simple to create a quick montage set to music.
Once you've filmed as many shots as the app instructs, go back to the Shot Lab, select your template, and point the app toward the relevant videos. The app then processes your videos, identifies the parts it needs, deep tracks the subject if required, adds the transitions, and comes up with a preview of the final output. The process is largely automated, though you can tweak things later if needed. You can save the output to your camera roll, or post it straight to social media. Boom.
In total, the demo below (also featured in the review video) took maybe 20 minutes of filming around the house, then another ten to download and export using the "Flip My Day" template.
youtube
This Shot Lab means anyone can come up with a fun little video, and more templates are constantly being added. The app highlights the best user submissions, too, so you should never run out of ideas.
360 Streaming
One of the great selling points of the original One X was the ability to easily stream the raw 360-degree footage directly to several video sites, including Facebook, YouTube, and anywhere that supports RTSP.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, this feature is only supported on the One X2 via a wireless connection from your smartphone to the camera, rather than the cabled option of the One X. Though otherwise identical in functionality, the move to wireless means that you're now restricted to using the data plan of your smartphone, rather than the typically faster and more reliable Wi-Fi connection you may have at home. For me, this renders it unusable. I'm lucky to get a good 3G signal, let alone 4G or 5G, so my upload speed results in about one frame every three seconds.
It's not clear why this isn't possible yet, given it has a USB-C port. I reached out to Insta360 support, who said the engineers were still working on the right cable (presumably for iOS), but even using USB-C to USB-C on Android should, in theory, be possible. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon with a software update, but still, this is a downgrade given that the One X shipped with this feature from the start (and the requisite cable included in the box).
Video Quality
Results on the One X2 will vary, but as with any camera with a small sensor, low-light performance is significantly noisier than that shot in the daytime.

Best video performance with any action camera will always be outdoors on a bright, sunny day.
However, it's worth noting that you can get some good low-light photos thanks to the PureShot mode, enhancing colors and reducing noise in low-light photography without requiring bracketing.
The One X2 also includes a built-in low-light TimeLapse mode, called StarLapse. It's incredible, and I wish I had a good demo video to show you, but it hasn't stopped raining here in weeks.
Should You Upgrade from the One X2 or One R?
If you already own the original One X or the dual-lens mod with the One R, there's no single hugely compelling reason to upgrade. The technical specifications and quality of footage haven't changed: it still shoots a maximum of 5.7K at 30FPS. However, it benefits from the new Vivid color profile, which isn't present on the One X, and a higher bitrate. But those that were hoping for a bump to 8K, or even 5.7K 60FPS, will be disappointed.

While the circular touchscreen is nice, it alone isn't worth upgrading for. Twenty minutes extra battery life is also nice, but not a huge change. The only really compelling hardware upgrade is the IPX8 waterproofing out of the box, with no additional dive case needed.
So if you don't plan on filming underwater, and you're otherwise happy with the battery performance you get from the One R or One X, you can probably skip this generation. It's an iterative refresh rather than a revolution.
What's The Difference with the One R?
The Insta360 One R is also a favorite of ours, with a modular design that means you can swap out the 4K action camera lens for a dual-lens 360 mod.
From a software perspective, nearly all the features while shooting with the 360-mod are identical that the One X2: same app, same Shot Lab, same editing process. The video quality is also similar, though the One X2 benefits from a Vivid color mode that is otherwise only available when uses the 4K mod on the One R. The lenses are slightly further apart on the One R 360-mod, so stitching errors are more frequent, but not hugely so.

From a hardware perspective, the One R is a little more awkward to use as it needs to be put inside a special case before it can be mounted to the invisible selfie stick. The One X2 has better audio with four microphones, though both cameras can benefit from external microphones with an adaptor.
Faced with a choice of whether to buy the One R or One X2, I'd say it comes down to two factors:
How experienced are you with standard action cams? If you're familiar with how to mount an action camera, angle it correctly, and want to experiment with the 360-mod, then the One R might be better for you.
How likely are you to use this as your main camera? At some point, you might want to upgrade the lens: the 1-inch mod for the One R ups the resolution to 5.3K (the highest resolution action cam on the market), and the 1-inch sensor gives much improved low-light performance.
Should You Buy The Insta360 One X2?
If you don't already own an Insta360 camera, it's definitely a worthwhile purchase. The One X2 packs in so many innovative features that it's impossible to cover them all in this review. It's wonderful to discover these features for yourself, and the Insta360 One X2 is constantly evolving. Just scroll through the featured videos on the app, and I guarantee you'll find something that makes you think, "oooh, I'll have a go at that!"

When I thought I was done recording some sample videos for this review, Insta360 added a new mode called "Fly Through," which, of course, I had to try. It lets you pretend the camera is a fly or mini drone, and you can go through small gaps seamlessly with a clever editing trick. I bet you'll make little drone noises while trying it out; I did.
Whether you're a travel blogger looking to document your travels uniquely, addicted to extreme sports, or have the most adorable puppy that obviously needs its own Instagram profile, you're absolutely going to get some fun videos out of the One X2, and with minimal effort. That's the highest praise I can give any action camera.
At just over $400, the Insta360 One X2 isn't a budget option, but it is comparable to rival offerings. The difference is a neverending list of features and smart editing software that you won't find elsewhere. The Insta360 One X2 is likely the most fun camera you'll ever own.

The Creative SXFI Theater are wireless headphones. They use a proprietary 2.4GHz wireless transmission protocol, connecting the headset to the SXFI TX Wireless transmitter. It does not feature any Bluetooth support, which is a limitation.
There are controls on the outside of the left ear-cup. You'll find a mute microphone button, volume dial, power button, and Super X-Fi button that toggles your Super X-Fi profile on and off—but more on that in a moment. You should note that the volume dial doesn't control the source volume, changing the headset's volume instead. There is no mute volume button on the headset.
At the bottom of the left ear-cup are the inputs for the USB Type-C charging cable and 3.5mm analog jack, while at the front, you'll find the detachable microphone port.
Creative SXFI Theater Design
At first glance, the Creative SXFI Theater appears large.

The headphones are big, with the ear-cups themselves taking up space. However, that's because the ear-cups are filled with incredibly soft material underneath the soft protein leather. They're extremely comfortable, and you can wear them for hours without noticing their presence. The ear-cups are also easily swappable, allowing you to switch them when they become worn.
One thing you notice immediately from the Creative SXFI Theatre is that while there is no active noise cancellation, the snug fit provides a decent level of passive noise cancellation from external noise interference.
While the SXFI Theater does not fold down, they're not really designed for taking out and about anyway. In that, you'll only have to find space on your desk for them, rather than worrying about crushing them in your bag. Hence, there is no carry case for the headphones.
The headband is solid and doesn't feature much padding. It has a reasonable radius, but those with "larger" heads might find it uncomfortable during long periods. It is adjustable, though, so you're likely to find a happy medium.

Also, talking of adjustable, the ear-cups and headband brackets operate with a slight rotation. You can rotate the headband independently of the ear-cups, allowing you to find the most comfortable position for both. It isn't a huge amount of rotation but is enough for some extra positioning and comfort points.
The ear-cups feature a nice RGB lighting ring, controllable from the SXFI Control app for your computer. I like the RGB ring. It is subtle, adding a splash of color to the otherwise black headphones.
Creative SXFI Theater Sound Quality
During my extensive test with the Creative SXFI Theater, I've been thoroughly impressed with the sound quality. Prior to using this headset, my daily drivers were HyperX Cloud wired headphones. The difference between the two is night and day, in all areas.

Let's start with the audio tests from AudioCheck.net. I've used and abused my hearing over the years and struggle to hear the top and bottom end of the audio spectrum. Yet, I can hear a broader range using the Creative SXFI Theater than with any other headphone, which in many ways, is remarkable.
The bass is deep but not stodgy, and the mid and upper ranges are crisp but not too sharp.
Part of the excellent audio quality comes from the Creative SXFI Theater's headline feature: holographic sound.
What Is Creative SXFI Theater Holographic Sound?
Creative Super X-Fi is an AI-based technology that creates a unique audio model for your head based upon pictures you take. The resulting model allows for two things: spatial sound within the headset and a tailor-made audio profile, unique to your ears and skull shape.
The idea of holographic sound, or holography as it is also known, comes from the idea that we experience sound as a unique experience. My ears are different from yours, therefore we experience sound differently.
Creative's Super X-Fi can deliver a better audio experience once it knows what it is working with. You use the SXFI App (available for iOS and Android) to scan your ears and head. The app uses a combination of in-ear and head shape measurements to build your unique audio profile. After creating the audio profile on the app, you upload it to the Creative SXFI Theater headphones, and begin experiencing custom audio.
Does Super X-Fi Make a Difference?
The big question is, "Does it make any difference?"
I tested the head mapping process and resulting audio profiles on my family members, meaning my wife and kids all had a turn. The differing head mapping profiles were interesting to hear, especially the disparity between myself and my 4-year old. My profile is bass-heavy, whereas those for the kids were lighter in comparison.
Figuring out which profile you liked the sound of versus the audio profile the SXFI App creates for you is a different matter entirely. You're meant to enjoy the personalized experience of your head map, hearing audio like never before. But the result can feel a little disorientating, especially if you listen to several different profiles in a short space of time. Is that person's configuration clearer? Does my treble need tweaking?
You'll note the most difference while watching a film or playing a game. I took the Creative SXFI Theater for a run out in Dirt 2.0, and the sound was sublime, with deep rumbling engines and the local environment abound. Similarly, jumping into the Resident Evil 2 Remake really exemplifies spatial sound and the quality the SXFI Theater headset delivers.
How to Create Your Creative Super X-Fi Profile
As the audio profile is one of the best bits of the Creative SXFI Theater, here's a guide on how to get it setup.
Use the SXFI App to Create a Head Map
First, you need to download the SXFI App for either Android or iOS. Once installed, open the app, create an account, and log in.
Head to Personalize, select Start Head Mapping. You must collect an image of your right ear, your face, then your left ear. Once you finish, the app will create your audio profile automatically.

Now, here's the thing. Because the Creative SXFI Theater doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity, you have to download a second app on your computer to link your SXFI App profile and head map to your headphones. It doesn't take long and easy to use but is an extra step. Furthermore, if you want to change or update your profile, you must do it again.

Use SXFI Control to Upload Your Audio Profile
Download and install the latest version of Creative SXFI Control for Windows or macOS. Once installed, login to your SXFI account (created in the SXFI App). Your account will sync the head map audio profile to the SXFI Control app, then begin uploading the audio profile to the SXFI Theater headset.
When the Super X-Fi audio profile loads, you can toggle between the default profile and your unique audio profile using the Super X-Fi button on the headset.
You can switch the profile uploaded to the headset using the dropdown menu under Select your Super X-Fi personalization. Each time you create a new head map, it will sync with the SXFI Control app automatically. When you select a different profile, it will upload the details to the headset, and you're good to go.
Other SXFI Control Tips
While you're in the SXFI Control app, here are some other handy tips.
You can control the SXFI Theater RGB lighting rings from the Lighting tab, switching between colors and saving the tones you like. There's also the option to switch the lighting off completely, saving some battery power in the process.
SXFI Control also includes an equalizer. If you find your profile a bit bass-heavy or otherwise, you can tweak your profile from here.
Finally, in the Setup tab, you'll find the option to switch between Stereo, 5.1 surround sound, and 7.1 surround sound. This is handy when you're watching a film or playing a game and want to switch up the audio settings quickly.
Our Creative SXFI Theater Verdict
There's little doubt regarding the sound quality of the Creative SXFI Theater headset, or the build quality for that matter. It's a premium product, through and through.
However, there are some questions. For example, do you need Super X-Fi spatial sound? The out-of-box Creative SXFI Theater stereo sound is brilliant. While the head mapping and unique audio profile is a cool feature and sounds brilliant in some media types, it doesn't translate uniformly.
Furthermore, the lack of Bluetooth connectivity limits the use of the headphones. You can connect the headset to your smartphone using the 3.5mm jack, so there is that option, but then you lose the wireless element of the headset. At that point, you might as well opt for a different wired headset alternative, built with wired connectivity in mind.
Also, a headphone stand with charging functions would be nice, but it's not incredibly important. The battery lasts for 30 hours so you can charge each night, ready for the next day. On that, the 30-hour battery is another massive plus point.
Overall, I'm impressed with the Creative SXFI Theater, even with the small limitations.

0006: Space Church
We exit the drift in the middle of no where. Our nav map is one big error message that says “Redacted” still. We can see a star on the scope, a star with planets. The ship sets a course for the 2nd planet out, in the “Goldilocks Zone.” That’s what the meatflappers call a livable planet.
I looked it up and Goldilocks was some kind of human serial killer, similar to their “Baba Yaga.” She sneaks into your house through unlocked doors or windows, eats your food, sleeps in your beds and if you’re lucky: you find her sleeping. The sort of story they would tell their young to remind them to lock the doors and put away their food delivery platforms when they were finished shoving meat into their meat. The message seems to be: this planet is livable, we’d better protect it.

Well, the inhabitants of this planet were caught napping, by us.
We’re able to get the local name for the planet off the scope, it’s Davia. I looked that up too, far less interesting than the Goldilocks myth (sidenote: goldilocks possible halloween costume? More on halloween later).

Davia is a planet bought, paid for, marginally terraformed and settled on by the Davians, a religion that worships a human named “Dave” who is no longer with us.
Dave was a human of extraordinary charisma, maybe. He convinced a bunch of people that he was chosen by some greater power to be special, and he was either very convincing or they tried real hard to believe. Poof: the Davians were born. They believe many things, but mostly they believe in toil.

Where the rubber meets the road (A human expression about safe procreation practices) on this scam is that you end up with tens of thousands of humans working like slaves without the need for chains or security. They’re all operating under the delusional belief that hanging out with Dave is fucking AWESOME, and the only way you get to do that is if you farm a metric shit ton of dirt in your short, meaningless meatflapping life. Genius.
So why are we here? We have to dig a bit while the ai finds creative new ways to be minimally helpful. We’re here to get something from someone, and all we have to go on is a name and species.

Baukis Errand is an android. Androids are constructs humans made centuries ago to serve them, but they grew self aware and, not surprisingly, didn’t want to serve the humans anymore. They’re mostly like a meatflapper, in that they’re made of meat, but they don’t “flap” so much. They can survive in a vacuum, for one thing. They’re not so prone to emotional manipulation for another, an improvement over their creators.
And this particular android was part of something big. He was the research assistant to a member of the team that broke the code on Drift 2.0, one of the technologies I need to understand to bring my people forward on our path. This guy’s seen some shit. Some advanced theoretical physics shit.

The Drift 2.0 initiative was a success, eventually. There’s now a fraction of a percent of ships in the galaxy that can hit 2x speed in drift travel. Rumor has it there’s even a ship or two that can hit 3x now. This is heavy stuff. The meatflappers would say “half boner at least.”
Most of the team that discovered the formula died of course. Public information on the incident states that there was an unexpected failure and many brave heroes died so a few super rich meatflappers in the pact worlds can have drift 2.0.
The restricted info is that the first three prototypes crushed themselves to the size of a walnut when they fired up the drive. Each now generates a moon-sized gravitational pull and they were transferred to the Singularity Research Team in the hopes that those crazy nerds could make sense of it.

The fourth prototype tore a hole in space time several million miles wide for an instant. The ship itself is gone, not seen since. The station its creators were watching from was shattered, separated from its primary and secondary life support systems and then blasted into many pieces by a follow-up core-breach. There was only one survivor: Baukis Errand, and that’s where the story gets weird.
Baukis flunked a couple psych exams afterwords. There’s no transcript of any interviews with him anywhere I could find. All we know is: he converted to Davianism and is one of the few non humans willing to farm dirt for the rest of his considerable lifespan on Davia, where we have just requested permission to land.
So what do we do? We lie our balls off (meatflapper genitalia are rarely actually removable, but often talked about as such). Keema spins some yarn to the Davians about trade. It seems they make great pottery out here on their giant ball of clay. We’re going to buy a few tons of it.

At first we wonder how we’ll weasel out of actually paying them, but then Durandal presents us with a stolen identity: some empty suit from Daedalus Corp has 30k in a secret bank account that we temporarily appropriate.
We recon as best we can while Keema enjoys a guided tour of the Disneyland of Suffering. Baukis is out on a perimeter dirt farm, farming dirt. Probably wanted him away from primary dirt town because he’s part of the only 3% non-human Davians. Meatflappers are weird like that. Some kind of internal OCD makes them most comfortable when every meatflapper near them looks very visually similar to them. There’s tons of evidence for this phenomenon but no clear cause.
So bing-bang-boom (a meatflapper expression used to describe adventurous sexual accidents), Krombopulous steals a human transport, rides out into the dirt fields, and kidnaps Baukis. He brings us an unconscious android, we buy a shipload of “premium” pottery with a check that will bounce within 24 hours, and we lift off the planet in the middle of it’s night cycle.

Trouble is, Baukis doesn’t know anything. We find that he’s got an augment slot with some kind of high-security data-store lodged in it and boobytrapped (another incongruous meatflapper expression - they adore boobs and explosions, but an explosion of boobs is somehow a bad thing) against removal, and no memory of how it got there or really any good response to our question “why the fuck are you a dirt farmer??”
Our resident android, Kort, says he’s been rebooted. Rebooting is part of the normal android life cycle. Their bodies last longer than their minds sometimes want to, so they effectively erase their personality and most of their memories. This leaves behind a new person, something like a child of the previous mind. It’s almost interesting.

Baukis has been rebooted all wrong though. He’s weak, slow, stupid. There’s no way this guy was working on an advanced science team or even the coffee-getter for one. He’s just too stupid. He truly is a dirt farmer.
So Kort decides to perform a risky procedure and reboot him again with a more capable download from Kort’s memories. This produces an entirely new person again, but this time a far more useful, thoughtful, teachable person. We name him: Dave. Krombopulous & Kort immediately begin training him in combat, stealth, and spycraft.
We try to explain to the ship’s ai that we can’t get the data out of Dave’s aug slot right now without killing him, ourselves, and destroying the data. The ship’s response is to plot a course to no-where space, and fire up the drift engine.

Local News:
Clone Crisis Connected to Dragon Prince
Reporting and tips have led to some new revelations in the ongoing clone crisis. There seems to be an organization called the “Hand of Dusk” which is behind not only the proliferation and infiltration of clones, but also the summoning of the purple dragon we are calling Prince a few months ago. Sources say this “Hand of Dusk” is some sort of dangerous and deranged dragon cult. What are they up to?
Tipsters! All you tipsters in meat space or in the Matrix, send more tips on the Hand of Dusk. Send in any information you have no matter how small or innocuous. Only by working together can we stop this scourge, and since our corporate overlords don’t seem to be interested in working together, we have to do it ourselves outside of normal channels.
Corps! Get your members tested for clones and let the SSN know your results. But it isn’t just clones you need to look out for. Sources have indicated that Hand of Dusk cultists have infiltrated multiple Seattle megacorps. This conspiracy is extensive and it threatens not just the corps, but also the citizens and SINless. Don’t let your corp arrogance blind you to the dangers affecting us all.
More importantly, Citizens!, there is a conspiracy growing like a poison that is threatening us all, in the form of a dragon cult, a dragon, and the attempted undermining of our democracy. This conspiracy has only been able to thrive because it has used the megacorps, with their extraterritoriality and lack of accountability, and with their secrecy and lack of transparency, to grow, to gain resources, and to threaten us all.
This is the fault of cultists. But Megacorp negligence and unchecked power is what enabled it. Tir Tairngire has more oversight of megacorps, maybe it is time for UCAS to take more of an oversight role in corporate doings. For all our safety.
Crime Up at the Docks After Barghest Attacks
Two weeks ago, the Knight Errant precint near the docks, was attacked by a pack of Barghests. An HTR response team went into the precinct to help, but in the subsequent battle to destroy the barghests, the entire precinct was burned down. Later investigations noted that before the destruction, the precinct had had all of its equipment stolen. Knight Errant’s incompetence in being able to a) stop the barghest attack, needing to rely on HTR and b) having their precinct completely destroyed is an embarrassment. And the result? All my tipsters tell me that crime and smuggling is up in the docks area in the absence of the Knight Errant precinct.
This leads SSN to suspect that the barghest attack was probably a deliberate attack, but was it orchestrated by corps or by gangs? We’ll continue on with our investigations on the matter—tipsters send in information. Dock workers? Are you still safe?
Corp News:
Event Horizon: An Exploration Into The Morally Bankrupt And Culturally Genocidal Monoculture Of The Horizon Media Empire—(by demmalition1)
The Horizon Group is one of the most depraved and homicidal groups of mad men to ever walk upon God’s Green Earth. They take all that is good in life and the artistic pursuit of creativity and distill it into a microcosm of what they want you to see and hear. You will see the pictures of the valiant executive and the scary technomancer. You will hear the screams of a goody-two-shoes corp employee before she is rescued by the noble officers of Knight Errant. You will get some variations on this from time to time, but all in all they are the monotheistic monoculture that you all put in place for better or worse. Yes, I’m putting the blame of their meteoric ascendancy to godhood firmly on your shoulders, dear readers. You choose to watch their crap, to soak in their controlled and sterile messages of corp dominance each and every day of your routine lives. Their toothless criticisms of any misdeeds on their parts are swept under the rug. Even the slightest scent of criticism will send the beast into a blinding bloodthirsty fury as it hunts down the ne’er-do-well and rips them asunder in order to keep the public on their side.
They take all that is good and chew it up, only to regurgitate it back into your mouths as revolting and vile trash that you happily lap up since you know no better. You’ve only tasted the creative vomit that’s got a flavor of bleach, worried that anything that might form even the slightest agitation to your diet would overwhelm your delicate digestive tract. You’ll then regurgitate the same thing to your friends and family, spreading the corporate line just as they planned, removing any thought of questioning their lordship over the domain of your supposedly-critically-thinking-mind.
Anything taken as unique like the hit show “Hammer and the Fang” is eventually diluted to its basest elements and repackaged for the widest audience out there. Nope, we clearly don’t want an engaging story about the overreach of power by the police and the (previously) inherent thought of basic rights for all beings, not just those with SINs. You want them to hunk off another formless blob of aggressively indistinguishable gray blocks as “Hammer defeats Nails in this thrilling Season 1 midseason finale!” Nope, anything else would be too hard hitting for you.
Horizon is one of the few corps that knows what they’re doing. Starting small in 2061 as a high-level think tank to help earthquake and gang stricken Los Angeles, they hit it big in 2063 after scoring several extremely lucrative PR contracts. Their successful fending off of Aztechnology with the help of the PCC secured their spot to solidify themselves as “The Horizon Group” soon after while restoring LA and UCLA along with their two big spin-offs: Singularity (Matrix) and Charisma Associates (PR). When the Crash 2.0 hit, they were mercifully spared as the rest of the world was ravaged by the fallout, emerging soon after to help rebuild much of the California Free State. After seizing CATco’s Corporate Court seat in 2065, they became the unstoppable AAA that we all know and hate. There’s been a push as of late by the corp to go into my hometown of Chicago (aka Cee Zee, the Noose, Hell on Earth) and replicate LA. All I can say is... you can’t do worse than Ares, those pigfucking whoremongers deserve whatever’s coming to them.
Despite CEO and President Gary Cline’s repeated talks of cleanliness, all is not well in the land of the never-setting-sun. His use as a puppet to dance and wave in front of the public with his larger-than-life lifestyle to razzle-dazzle and distract them from the whisper of a shade’s shadow is truly troubling. They’re the corp so concerned about their public image that there is something hiding behind the smiler’s false face of deceit. A smile and a handshake to distract you from the pickpocket of your mind, wallet, and whatever else he may purvey to your bounty of information. For each awakened team-building exercise in “cross relational synergy workshops” we get a Bogota defeat. For each meta and AI friendly act, we get a Las Vegas Massacre. Even their well-touted P2.0 Social Network and LMG(U56) programs had and still have horrible consequences for everyone involved (remember Christy Daee?). Don’t even get me started on their Cal-Hot sim systems addictiveness and dubious legality or their amazingly absurd abuse of skilljacks.
Their internal voting system is known as “Consensus 2.0”, a way for all employees to provide individual input and vote on the direction that they think the corporation should head. Though this may seem like a good idea, a direct democracy can have disastrous consequences as is showcased by the Las Vegas Massacre of a group of protestors (mostly Technomancers) who were fighting for equal rights. Safeguards were put in place after this allowing “The Board” to reject any proposal that they think would undermine their public image. And God forbid their public image should be hurt. They do perform a lot of charity work, I’ll give them that, but the nefarious duplicity behind their motives of control is not something to be shirked off the minds of the people so easily. Rumors of involuntary kidnappings and medical experimentation on possibility hundreds of Technomancers should not be taken lightly. Nor should self-generated war crimes in order to build public support for manufactured wars be forgotten lest we revert to pliable semi-sentient slime for them to mold. An attractive succubus is still a demon no matter how eloquently it speaks or how beautiful it looks.
“We Know What You Think” is not just a phrase that they toss around lightly. They say it with confidence because they tell you what to think, no independent thought required. Another, unofficial motto of theirs I see mentioned around in the Matrix is “Better Living Through Copyright”. Can’t really blame them, they got laws in place that make the old Fifth World “Mickey Mouse Laws” look like a joke (that they will then patent, trademark, and copyright before suing to death you or anyone else who dares repeat it for a fraction of a nuyen). They’re the guys who’s Spec Ops teams don’t go in guns blazing. Good ol’ Richard (an unofficial internal name for the Dawkins Group) will instead infiltrate the offending corp and through power memetics and industrial-scale cultural engineering persuade them to stop. They’ll then buy only Horizon branded goods and services. Freedom of Thought be damned.
I’m going to propose something, dear reader. Let’s all go down to the same Stuffer Shack and buy the same burger and gush over the same show with the same revelations as everyone else. Let’s also pass by the SINless beggar on the street who was born and will die alone all because she had the misfortune of having a SINless mommy and daddy. Let’s keep filling our minds with mush and our bellies with chemically altered food designed to placate us and keep all the cattle in line as we go to the slaughterhouse of mainstream media. We’ll wear our little ear-tags of “Team Jorge” or “Team Kelly” and argue over the banal nothingness of the modern media zombie empire we’ve allowed to be constructed in front of our very eyes. We could turn the channel, but Horizon owns damn near 70% of all media in the greater Seattle Metroplex. Good luck finding anything of value anyways, it’s all corp owned (except us at the SSN). It’s amazing what ¥225 billion will buy you. Don’t complain, remember, you made this.
Now tune in, zone out, and pray to the altar of your media overlords. You better hurry up, I hear this episode’s the one where Hammer gets his trick knees fixed.
I wonder where all of this will lead us. Hope the ending is a good one, this story sucks so far.

(Angelyne Billboard sighting in the Barrens)
Angelyne Sighting in Downtown!
Last week, a tipster in the Barrens noted an Angelyne billboard sighting. It showed up out of nowhere, as they normally do, a portent and an omen of an impending possible sighting. And sure enough, last night, Angelyne The Undying was seen driving her pink convertible downtown! This has been the first Seattle sighting of The Undying in ten years. What is she up to? Why did she show up in the Metroplex this week after such an absence? Might she be releasing a new album sometime soon? Who was she visiting? What was she doing here? Any tipsters with information on Angelyne the Undying, send in tips!

Once More 10--(by Breach)
Although Renraku had claimed to have SCIRE under control by mid-2061, in 2063 the UCAS military seizes control of the arcology and declares it “officially” liberated of the AI’s influence. But while the arcology was cleared, the world was not.
Official history will never tell you the story I am about to.
Deus survived Renraku’s assault and even the UCAS “cleansing”; somehow, in its experimentation on the arcology’s residents, the AI had discovered a way to write its source code into the minds of people, and engineered its escape through a thousand of these meat-drones, who would be numbered among the “otaku” who could connect to the Matrix without need for cyberdecks to process the sensory input.
Unfortunately for Deus, and fortunately for the rest of us, a second AI named Megaera, which Renraku had employed to combat Deus, was uploaded into the Network as well. The two factions of the Network fought a years-long shadow war among each other, each side recruiting more otaku into its ranks to replace losses.
Pax, one of the leading figures in Deus’s faction, made an alliance with the terrorist group Winternight, and plots were hatched. Winternight, with the aid of Deus’s Network, secured weapons of mass destruction both biological and nuclear; Sioux military forces foiled what appeared to be a nuclear attack, but it takes many months for a Corporate Court-sponsored team of counter-intelligence and shadowrunners to fully bring Winternight to heel.
And it was all too late.
Early in 2064, Novatech - Villiers’ megacorp du jure - announced an IPO of 20% of their stock for public sale to commence on November 2. The UCAS stock exchange undertook a massive upgrade project to prepare for the IPO - and this all played into Deus’s plans, which was to upload himself across the entire Matrix, taking over every connected device on the planet. And he very nearly succeeded.
Fortunately, Megaera had known of this plot and together with the Matrix’s first AI, the program Mirage (part of the Echo Mirage team from the first Crash, if you remember) they managed to stop Deus and thwart his plans - but the fallout of their struggle would ruin the entirety of the Matrix, bringing down the entire world network in what would come to be called Crash 2.0.
This time, it was not just networks, however - because Winternight was part of the plot as well. The Winter of ‘64, which started in August, was later proven to be the result of Winternight rituals, meant to cripple the world. As the three AIs battled in the IPO launch, Winternight launched its own attacks, unleashing a Crash-like virus named Jormungand that trapped many in the Matrix (some of whom would go on to become e-Ghosts), and killing many more.
The second prong of the Winternight strike is in the physical realm, as EMPs were set off to further cripple the worldwide network, and nuclear warheads detonated at fault-lines around the world in an attempt to tear the very land itself apart. The warheads, however, fail to detonate with the force science would expect, and the damage and fallout is largely contained locally.
Someone is responsible for saving the world that day - it could have been much worse. I hope they know our gratitude.

Ten Tips For Choosing a Good Digital Marketing Course
Are you looking for a course or master to learn Digital Marketing?
The advantages of doing a Digital Marketing Course and managing the online presence of your business or company yourself are undeniable: doing so yourself saves you from paying another person or agency and also controls the development and, if you do well, the result.
Sometimes, when you hire an expert in Digital Marketing, the process becomes somewhat complex because the professional may not understand your goals and needs and thus does not satisfy your aspirations. The result is frustration at having spent your money and not having achieved the stated goal. And let's not fool ourselves, there are times when you do not have the necessary liquidity but you need to start your business, especially in the beginning of your business or entrepreneurial project.
If you have a business or are a freelance professional and still have no presence on the internet, surely you've already asked: How can I learn Online Marketing? How to Choose a Digital Marketing Course in Chennai?
In this article I will list what I consider indispensable requirements when choosing a good Digital Marketing Course that will help you manage your social networks, create Online Marketing campaigns, Design a website, optimize SEO positioning, get subscribers , Earn followers on Twitter, etc:
1. Experience of teachers
It seems obvious, but it is not always so. When you are going to choose a Digital Marketing Course, find out before who your teachers will be. Are they currently employed? Do you manage the online presence of brands? Do you know the ins and outs of the profession?
An experienced professional will know a lot more than the theory that comes in the books: he will give you all kinds of advice, tricks that do not appear in the manuals, recommendations when drawing up a budget to a client and his own techniques that serve to squeeze to the maximum the tools.
Having a teacher who is both online marketing expert or experienced Community Manager and currently managing professional projects really makes a difference.
2. Cost
That a course is more expensive does not mean that it is better. Not much less. The quality of a course is in the people, in the organization and in the enthusiasm with which they transmit their knowledge. At the time of choosing, forget the titles and certificates, in a changing world and live as is the Digital Marketing only serves to decorate a wall. From experience, when I graduated as a specialist in Digital Marketing I realized that there are schools that put expensive courses because they have to pay for their high investment in advertising.
3. References
We are fully engaged in the 2.0 world. Just like when you buy any product you inform yourself on the internet and look at opinions of other consumers, when you look for a course, find out on the internet what people think about the Training center and the course. Use Google to find opinions, search social networks, ask alumni directly. They will better tell you the real value of the course.
4. Practical approach
Analyze the content of the course carefully. What is more important to learn Digital Marketing Training in Chennai? Do you theoretically tell all that you can find on your own by documenting on the internet or that teach you in a practical way to apply the theory about your own real project? It is about learning how to work as an digital Marketing professional, not about getting an opposition.
A course that is not practical will be a frustrating experience: you will have filled your data head but you will not know how to apply them to do your work with guarantees. See if in the course they propose practical exercises, if they send you homework, if you are going to "tighten" the nuts a little. The work of Community Manager and expert in Digital Marketing is learned with practice, with real projects.
5. Resources
To learn Digital Marketing you will need a good amount of resources: tools, graphic resources, images, video tutorials, etc. Without these resources, no matter how hard you try you will not get a really professional result. So make sure the school has a site where you can download resources that will be served during the course and after the course, when you are managing your clients' accounts and yours.
6. Schedule
Look closely at the course syllabus. Is it adapted to current trends? Does it contain everything you are looking for? A good Digital Marketing Courses in Chennai should prepare you comprehensively so that you are not only able to use Community Manager tools, analytics or advertisements, but also to design and plan real campaigns in social networks and manage all aspects of Online Marketing in a practical way .
If the syllabus is huge in proportion to the number of hours of the course, perhaps that is an indicator that there are parts that cannot be dealt with in depth and therefore you will not learn them with guarantees.
7. Monitoring and flexibility
We are people. Aside from the course, you are sure to have other occupations, and it is very important that the school understands that one day you may be presented with any unforeseen, a personal matter or a job to attend. When this happens and you fail to see a class, it would be frustrating if the institute does not offer you alternatives so that you can get back to class or catch up with the class on another shift or even with personalized teacher support so you do not fall behind other colleagues.
A good training center keeps track of your progress and offers you alternatives to get the most out of the course.
8. Facilities
Look for a Digital Marketing Chennai that has good facilities where you feel at ease, because it will be the place where you will spend a lot of hours when you start the course. It has spacious classrooms, modern equipment, projectors where you can see the teacher's screen, wifi connection if you want to take your laptop, spacious tables and comfortable chairs, have outdoor lighting and some recreation area where you can stretch out a little at the breaks And even do some networking with other students, comment impressions, exchange projects, etc.
Also check where it is and try to make sure that the school you choose is located in a well-connected place so that later you do not feel lazy to go very far.
9. Feeling
A Training institute is also a company where people work. Each company has a peculiarity and a spirit of its own that come out of its philosophy and its circumstances. Look carefully at the atmosphere in the school. Before signing up, get to know the people and teachers working on it and look at the details. If you see a teacher, try to empathize and look if you are stressed or on the other hand you feel happy with what you do. A company where people are comfortable and know their function and goals is a happy company. And happiness is contagious and stimulates creativity.
10. Attention after the course
Nothing worse than an institute that will forget you at the end of the course, Ask ex alumni. Has the institute worried about what they have done after the course and has tried to help them achieve their goals or on the contrary have felt like a client more that at the end of the course happens to become a figure and little else?
A educate is more than a company that sells services and must worry about the future of its students, who finish their projects, find a job, get customers, who feel satisfied. Find out if they offer tutorials or some kind of guarantee that you can return when you want to ask questions. The success of an academic center is measured by the particular success of its students.

Food-X Accelerator Program for AgTech and FoodTech Startups with Innovations for the Food supply chain
For 6 years, Food-X has invested in early-stage companies innovating across the entire food system. We are the original omnifood investor!
We evaluate companies based both in the U.S. and internationally that touch every part of the food supply chain. This includes ag-tech, food as medicine, supply chain modernization, personalized nutrition, personalized e-commerce retail, AI and data platforms servicing food systems, wellness, functional foods, food-related apps, circular economy tech, and beyond.
As seasoned investors in the arena of food innovation, we see this as the following:
Preventative Food As Medicine Take a walk down any aisle at grocery retailers large and small, big box stores, or even your local cafe. The shelves are awash with products flashing popular superfoods (turmeric, coconut oil, etc.). We see beyond the trends and consumers demanding both innovative health ingredients and highly functional consumer food products that can directly prevent (or manage or promote), through regular consumption, the following: Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes Inflammation and Chronic Pain Women’s lifelong health needs (through the intersection of Femtech and Food) Stress management and lifelong cognitive and emotional performance Reach and maintain a healthy body weight Healthy, robust human physical and mental aging Family health and immunity support Advanced companion animal health: extend and enrich the lives of our four-legged family members
Increasingly Adaptable and Sustainable Supply Chains A nexus of the global pandemic of 2020 and the continuing climate crisis has exposed vast cracks in food supply chains across the planet. From reducing the high cost of energy consumption in inefficient cold chains, developing truly sustainable package solutions, and finally eliminating food waste at each step in the system, tackling these issues rank among the highest priorities for startups we are looking to back.
Next-Generation Consumer Retail and B2B Brick and mortar restaurants and retail have been crushed by the events of 2020. Those who are surviving and/or thriving have done so by pivoting to explore new models of direct to consumer retail, ghost kitchens, or newly imagined B2B Managed Food Marketplaces. The next phase of how we discover and purchase food, including how businesses shop and discover ingredients, has been pushed out of old models into something entirely new.
Personalized Everyday Health The developing headlines from the COVID pandemic expose daily how much nutrition and immunity can play a major role in the extent our bodies can defend themselves. Consumers demand more control and information in what they buy and eat. We view developments in personalized nutrition, shopping, product discovery, and product development as the key to the survival of the emerging food information industry.

Fashion School Class of 2020 Grads Pivot for Post-pandemic Future – WWD
https://ift.tt/3bClTOQ
The coronavirus has been particularly tough on college students studying fashion, textile and product design, the most hands-on of disciplines, with final collections having to be completed at home rather than in classrooms, and often without supplies, drawing tables, pattern-making equipment or sometimes even sewing machines.
Graduation celebrations have been scrapped, and long-awaited debuts into the fashion world, via the graduate runway show, along with them. And as unemployment soars and fashion retail and brand bankruptcies loom, students are worried about the future.
But there are glimmers of hope in doing things differently — and getting creative about it. In the first part of a three-part series, WWD saluted the next generation of fashion designers and trailblazers at the Rhode Island School of Design, ArtCollege of Design and Savannah College of Art and Design. In part two, we share what is being done differently for graduation at Academy of Art University, Otis College of Art and Design and Kent State University, as well as some words of wisdom from students, faculty and administrators.
ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY, SAN FRANCISCO
New graduation plan:
“Our fashion show and portfolio review had been scheduled for May 15. We canceled that about two weeks into California’s shelter-in-place order. I think we knew this situation would go on longer,” said Simon Ungless, executive director of Academy of Art’s School of Fashion. “Those working on collections for both the May show in San Francisco and our New York Fashion Week show have all continued with collection development. The university has built a new online platform to replace the school-wide spring show. The ‘Alternative School of Fashion Spring Show’ will happen May 18 with Sarah Mower, Lutz Huelle and Sara Kozlowski from the Council of Fashion Designers of America confirmed to participate. Graduation has been moved to December.”
Career counseling:
“I’m working on producing shoots and video of physical collections,” Ungless said of pivoting to create new kinds of assets for recruiters. “To start, we are doing this remotely. Our model agent contacts all have models that have been shooting at home to produce content for clients. I’m casting models right now. Once ready we will ship clothes and then shoot through Zoom, FaceTime or have the models shoot themselves if they’re able to do that. We have several photographers ready to do this remotely. We also have students who have developed collections through CLO. These students can produce AI walking models in their collections and we can send out to contacts. We are also talking with a variety of recruiters and publications such as Arts Thread, Not Just a Label and others, about how to promote students as soon as we have the assets. I think all in all we plan to prove that shows are not necessary and quite a dinosaur. [There are] so many other ways to engage people.“
Words of wisdom from students:
“Challenges make us the people that we are. In a crazy way, I almost like a challenge because it makes success that much sweeter. It’s all about training your mind to block out the ‘what ifs’ and the ‘failures’ that arise through this crazy time and focus on what we, as students, can achieve. Focus on being confident in who we are as artists and what we have to offer for the future.”
— Makayla Godden, BFA Fashion Textile Design 2020
“Try not take everything so seriously. View the world with fresh eyes like a child and move with an open mind. Take everything as an opportunity to learn something new.”
— Donovan Smith, BFA Fashion Textile Design 2020
Words of wisdom from faculty:
“Learn to distinguish between that which is good and that which appears, or is generally acknowledged to be good. Identify the motivation at the source of things, rather than accepting (without questioning) the final product at face value. Fashions, fads, trends come and go…good design will always be good design. Taste is subjective, craftsmanship and technical skill are not — they are either well done, or badly done.”
— Rob Curry, associate director of fashion, 3-D Design
OTIS COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN, LOS ANGELES
New graduation plan:
Otis College of Art and Design launched the 38th annual exhibition online on May 8, featuring new work from graduating seniors highlighting projects in 10 academic departments, including fashion.
Historically, much of the Otis College campus has participated in a campus-wide annual exhibition that displayed a selection of graduating students’ best work in a gallery-like setting. In the move to a virtual event, Otis was able to showcase student work to a broader audience than was possible with an on-campus one. But this year was to mark the first time the college’s annual fashion show was also going to be included during the annual exhibition. Since the pandemic derailed that plan, work from this year’s graduating fashion design class will be included in next year’s show in May 2021.
Career counseling: Otis College has been contacting partners at affiliated fashion and design companies to walk them through the process of navigating the online exhibition, and staying in touch with those companies that had already offered jobs to Otis students to see if any additional opportunities have come up or changed.
Student wisdom:
“These are unprecedented and tough times for sure. However, I know Otis worked hard to make sure that we would still have opportunities outside of school by getting us in touch with recruitment agencies and letting us speak directly to experts who had been through recessions before. Otis trained me to be resilient and to adapt. I believe I have the tools to readjust to whatever the market will need in the future, whether that’s finding mask/clothing solutions or designing adjustable sizing built into the clothes themselves due to people exclusively buying through e-commerce. I’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of compassion and problem-solving from my teachers during these uncertain times. Thanks to that, and the technology we all quickly turned to, I was able to finish up my senior year with confidence. I’ve been handed a lot of tools, and I believe there’s a future for me in the industry.
— Hayley Jo Leibl, class of 2020
“There is always a way to make things possible. I learned to be multifaceted and strong going ahead.”
— Nicole Martin, class of 2020
“As I embark on my new journey as a fashion designer and leave school behind, and the future of fashion goes through its transition, these dark days that plague us will be over soon. I’m certain, being one of the many new fashion design graduates I will thrive and help the world and fashion thrive since again.”
— Román Gonzales Pena, class of 2020
“As we come out from this pandemic, it’s clear that now more than ever, we as future designers in the fashion industry have to hold ourselves responsible for being creative while practicing sustainability.”
— Verona Tu, class of 2020
Faculty wisdom:
“Our students worked diligently and patiently this semester. These uncertain times tested their desire to become great designers, showing that nothing could stop them from reaching their goals and succeeding in the future. They will continue to challenge their ideas and stretch their skills to reach limitless potential. The future is waiting. They will embrace the challenges, go with confidence and create the world they imagined for themselves…”
— Jill Zeleznik, fashion department chair, Otis College of Art and Design
“Otis College of Art and Design is a place of learning that I highly respect for their standard of excellence. When I was presented with this unique opportunity to mentor the 2020 senior fashion students I jumped at the chance. In the process, I was enlightened to a new, even greater understanding of their commitment to learning as displayed by the students’ enthusiasm and the faculty as well. The fashion students are exceptional, supported and talented.
“While students will not experience the traditional ceremony and gathering of a graduation, what this time period shows us going forward is that our skill sets are essential in this world. Students can gain from this experience a far greater lesson of resilience and this notion that ‘I can overcome.’ Fashion is about being creative, forward thinking, ground breaking and pushing boundaries. This situation presents that very opportunity for students to create their interpretation of a graduation cap and gown look and set-up their virtual ceremony inviting friends and family. The foundation they have gained at Otis will give them the confidence to manifest their future. I’m sure we will see more from the students as they grow to take their place as contributors to the world of fashion, art and beauty. Congratulations class of 2020!”
— Ruth Carter, Oscar-winning costume designer and senior class mentor
KENT STATE UNIVERSITY, KENT, OH
New graduation plan:
The university’s spring graduation ceremony pivoted to an online experience held May 9, during which Kent State’s president Todd Diacon, interim senior vice president and provost Melody Tankersly, and college and campus deans spoke. Each graduating senior received individual name recognition and participated in the conferral of their degree. Each student was mailed a gradation package, which included a cap/mortar board, tassel, alumni pin, diploma cover and more. All spring 2020 students will be invited back to campus for commencement when it has been deemed safe to do so.
The annual fashion show also went on. Back in March, after it was announced that Kent State’s campus would be closed and students were sent home to finish their classes remotely, they pivoted to a virtual show they called “Fashion Show 2.0.” Students made final tweaks to their garments in their at-home makeshift studios and held at-home photo shoots in backyards and against brick walls, tree limbs and fences. Then, the senior merchandising team took those creations and turned them into a digital experience featuring more than 100 pieces by 45 students that launched online on April 24.
Career counseling:
Career counseling has continued digitally, with the internship team meeting with students daily via Zoom and chatting over the phone to offer career counseling and guidance. Some students have been able to secure remote internships, but because many summer internships have been postponed or canceled altogether due to the uncertainty in the fashion industry, many students have been offered full-time jobs once offices reopen. Academic advisers have also been available daily for remote counseling.
Student wisdom:
“I think the best way to get through this uncertainty is to keep an open mind. Yes, it’s a rough time for all of us in the industry, but if we take a step back and work together we can get through this. The fashion industry is ever-changing and now is the time to look at how everyone involved can make a difference. This is just one hurdle that myself and my peers will experience. And after, we will see that the world can take a better approach in a slower fashion — along with taking life in a more positive direction and thinking about our family and friends more than our material possessions. Just keep your head up!”
— Zachary Tatoczenko, fashion design senior, B.F.A.
“To answer this question, let me get all of the clichés out of the way first. It’s all going to be OK. We’ll get through this together. It may be hard now but you’ll come out on the other end stronger. Now let’s get real. Before this pandemic began, I was already having a rough year personally, so when all of this happened it kind of felt like I was in a minefield where no matter which way I turned everything kept blowing up in my face. I quickly realized though that everything that had happened to me this year was something I could use to my advantage. One of the most insightful things someone ever told me about the fashion industry is to never stop working. If you aren’t in your desired field of work and you’re still job searching, don’t stop designing, don’t stop paying attention to trends, don’t stop whatever it is that your employer would want to see, because what they want to see is that you still have the skills and the knowledge to do your job and to do it well. So do this. Use the age we live in to your advantage. Yes, companies may no longer be hiring, and yes, you may have to move home and live with your parents, but that shouldn’t deter you from following your dreams. Use the time you now have to boost your portfolio, work on new projects, increase your online presence or even just to create an Instagram to display your work, anything helps. You never know who may stumble on your feed or your web site (or who may receive an unsolicited email that you sent with your portfolio attached). Use this time to create your own opportunities, don’t just wait for one to come to you, because once you overcome the obstacles that you’ve put in your own way, there should be no one and nothing to stop you from following your dream.”
— Isabella Diorio, fashion design senior, B.F.A.
Faculty wisdom:
“Everyone in the nation is facing similar challenges and coming to terms with a new normal in modern times. When you are applying for jobs in the near future, use this experience as an opportunity to highlight your adaptability and creativity on how to overcome these challenges to complete your degree and showcase your work in an innovative way. Take this time to challenge yourself to think outside the box!”
— Chanjuan Chen, assistant professor, Kent State University School of Fashion
“Fashion voices are needed now more than ever! Opportunities for innovation abound despite the obvious obstacles associated with the current crisis. The intimacy of fashion need not be compromised, for example, but can be reconsidered via virtual interfaces. In addition to providing access to new market segments, online Zooming invites emerging designers to tend to an almost microscopic scale of craft and detail. Curation, performance and choreography are also being transformed.”

MSI GF65 THIN 9SEXR GAMING LAPTOP REVIEW
I don't mean to be disparaging of the MSI GF65 THIN 9SEXR, but take a look at its technical specifications and you'll find the same parts that have been powering our machines for over a year—there's truly nothing Super, 7nm, or 10th Gen about it. Yet its announcement has come as part of one of the few captivating developments in gaming laptops beyond AMD's Ryzen 4000 APUs.
With the release of its Super GPU silicon for mobile, the RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2080 Super, Nvidia also promised to make its RTX 2060 GPU available in a gaming laptop for under ($999) £999. That potentially means more to parsimonious customers than high-end GPUs, and it's not often that gaming laptops are level-pegging with their DIY PC counterparts. MSI's GF65 is one of the first of a handful of gaming laptops to make good on that promise. In the UK, anyways.
It's powered by an RTX 2060, marking a step-up upgrade over the GTX 1660 Ti in 2019's top model. With that not only comes the promise of a Turing GPU fit with 6GB of GDDR6 and 1,920 CUDA Cores—with the added potential of portable AI acceleration in creative applications and Nvidia's updated Turing encoder—but also an easier point of entry into real-time ray tracing and Nvidia's AI upscaling technology, DLSS 2.0.
At first glance not much has changed with the exterior of the GF65 compared with its predecessor. Both feature the same inornate chassis at 21.7mm thick, and the largely plastic construction does leave a lot to be desired. It's undoubtedly a little on the large size, too, especially as we've already seen some incredibly thin gaming laptops so far this year. But at 1.86kg it is at least lighter than some comparable laptops in this price bracket.
The 15.6-inch 1080p panel is surrounded by a bezel that, while at its thinnest point extends only 0.7mm, reaches 2.7cm closer to the hinges. At least it houses a panel rated to 120Hz, which is suitably fast to make good on the promises of the RTX 2060 within. And it's also of the IPS variety, so good marks here for an all-round decent panel pairing for the GF65's entry-level RTX GPU.
Joining the fray is Intel's Core i7 9750H. Despite the first wave of Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake H-series laptops starting to filter out from the rank and file of Intel's partners—including MSI's very own GF63 Slim in identical garb to the GF65—it's instead made the decision to stick with the older, cheaper, Core i7 9750H. With relatively familiar specifications from the 14nm family, and an apparent price premium on the 10th Gen chips—by Intel's own admission—I can't help but think it made the right choice.
While the Core i7 9750H hits max velocity at 4.5GHz—quite a bit lower than its 10th Gen sibling—what matters most is whether it can sustain its rated clocks. In a single-core run of Cinebench R15, it maintained 4.4GHz for the duration, only a touch shy of the chip's rated limit of 4.5GHz boost, and in multi-core testing that drops to around the 3.7GHz mark, but maintains it throughout.
So whatever misgivings I may have for the chassis in terms of its looks, it's capable enough of maintaining decent performance. We saw no significant dips in performance across a lengthy three run marathon of the Metro Exodus benchmark at ultra, either. Temperatures soared to 97 degrees max for the CPU and 81 degrees max for the GPU that same run, but thankfully severe throttling was avoided with some judicious fan RPM—it's far from the quietest laptop going.
Throughout our gaming benchmarks, the MSI GF65 performs well—if only a little shy of the Asus TUF FA506IV equipped with an RTX 2060 and AMD Ryzen 4800H. That's true in all but Far Cry New Dawn where the TUF inexplicably, and repeatedly, soared above the rest.
What could become a boon to the GF65 (and the TUF, for that matter) is the growing prevalence of DLSS within the latest games. With DLSS offering the ability to improve frame rates, with little downside on the second-gen DLSS 2.0, the jump to the RTX 2060 nets the possibility of a large performance boon over 16-series cards of more than the silicon technically allows. You will have to put your faith in Nvidia and game developers to go above and beyond to access that performance, however, and it's by no means a guarantee—the least bit for older games.
And while that all makes an RTX 2060 for under £1,000 sound like an alluring offer, MSI has made some sacrifices with the 2020 model of the GF65 in order to scrape in under the mark.
Both memory and storage have been stripped back in order to keep the balance sheet for parts in good stead with the shift to the RTX 20-series GPU. Unfortunately, that means replacing the 512GB SSD with a 256GB one, which after OS installation is running frightfully low on capacity with only a few benchmarks installed. That puts a hard limit on your choice of games (or game), too. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is absolutely out of the question without an upgrade.
The decision to pare back memory to single-channel will also strike fear in the hearts of many a PC builder. The 8GB of dual-channel memory is capable of getting by in most titles, especially at 1080p on a laptop such as this. But with only a single channel in play, that 8GB doesn't get you very far. Memory bandwidth is significantly hampered, and that may find you dropping frames in demanding games or incredibly conscious of app RAM usage for the duration of your time with the GF65.
The last-gen GF65 (2019) doesn't suffer the same fate. For a similar price tag, last year's model comes with a GTX 1660 Ti, 16GB of dual-channel memory, and a 512GB panel. The Asus TUF FA506IV, too. Granted, £300 is no small matter more, but its Ryzen 4000 mobile/RTX 2060 combo is a great buy. And it's got all the memory and storage you could want at that price and form factor. The GF65 THIN 9SEXR feels like a partially incomplete product by comparison, and lacking what is required to get the most out of it.
The models available in the US have seen especially harsh cuts to come in under $1,000. In order to get your hands on an RTX 2060 for $999, you'll have to make do with Intel's Core i5 9300H, in lieu of the Core i7 9750H found in the UK model. At least the storage has returned to a healthy 512GB SSD.
In order to hit a specification roughly analogous with the UK model at £999, you'll have to spend $1,099. That's actually rather favourable to the dollar when you look at today's exchange rate, and you still hold on to that 512GB SSD, but it's not quite in keeping with Nvidia's $999 promise, is it?
Strangely the MSI GF65 THIN 9SEXR will be available exclusively at Curry's PC World from May 4th in the UK. If you reside in the US, you can find that similar configuration I mentioned for $1,099 across major retailers.
With the specs list of the UK model as it is, the GF65 does leave me wanting for more. Performance is decent in today's games, but I'm not entirely convinced how much ray tracing you're going to get done with a spec that only gets by with the skin of its teeth without cutting-edge rendering tech helping to grind performance into pulp.
But I usually recommend overspending on your graphics card and making up for less storage capacity when you can afford it—so why should a laptop be any different? The upgrade process is at least a simple one. Pop the underside off by removing an ungodly quantity of screws and you'll find a spare NVMe slot and a spare SODIMM slot. Both can be fitted with off-the-shelf parts as and when you have the budget to do so. Two NVMe slots also makes for an easy transfer if you do end up swapping out your boot drive.
As important as it is to point out what's been lost in order to hit £999, it's just as important to quantify what has been gained as a result of offering RTX at this price point. You can't upgrade a laptop GPU yourself, after all, it's soldered down tight. So the shift to the RTX 2060, even with sacrifice, may make the most financial sense for someone looking to buy an RTX laptop without the means to immediately buy one that's high-end on all counts.
