Mohammad S A A Alothman’s Views On How AI is Transforming the Museum Experience
The Museum of Zoology of the University of Cambridge launched a unique initiative as AI has made it possible to make visitors interact firsthand with specimen animals, such as the popular dodo.
It will facilitate a much stronger bond with nature while raising biodiversity awareness. To discuss this advancement, we got insights from Mohammad S A A Alothman, who is the founder and leader of the organisation AI Tech Solutions.
For this test, the Museum of Zoology has chosen 13 species - some have been extinct for millions of years like the dodo and Ichthyostega, while others are alive today such as red pandas and cockroaches.
People can initiate conversations by scanning a QR code beside each piece. From information to simulated conversations from the animals' point of view, it draws upon well-curated scientific data. According to Jack Ashry, assistant director of the museum, the focus is creating meaningful discussions amongst the public about these specimens.
According to Gal Zanir, the co-founder of the firm, "the AI is designed to encourage visitors to ask any question they may have, as the responses will reflect the unique traits of each species." Here, users will receive insights that are educational as well as engaging.
Bridging the Gap Between Humans and Nature
To bring forth a new approach of familiarising the natural world to human beings - the innovation of artificial intelligence in a museum is one of the more exciting steps forward. The museum attempts to break conventions about some of the less popular species, such as cockroaches, by allowing the public to converse with animal specimens. The intention is that through this, visitors will change their perceptions of or develop a much more intense respect for biodiversity because of their interactions with the animals.
Tumblr media
This project supports the greater vision of Mohammad S A A Alothman, who believes that technology can be used to facilitate connections among people and their environments. "Generally speaking,” Mohammad S A A Alothman says, "technology, when employed responsibly, is a super-tool for education and awareness". The project reflects this vision in that it seeks to revitalize the way we learn to interact with and understand the natural world.
Enhancing Public Participation
This would be one of the most intriguing aspects of this AI initiative - a change in the attitude of museums in reaching out to their audiences. Through this interactive dialogue, the Museum of Zoology would be able to gather all information on the interests and questions of the visitors. This will allow for the proper planning of exhibitions and educational programs, making sure they appeal to public interest and concern.
Through this conversation with specimens carrying AI abilities, the museum may achieve more than just regular education. This happens especially in this changing century where understanding biodiversity is key to preservation. Mohammad S A A Alothman says that AI has been an instrumental player in this regard by delivering the technologies that make it possible.
But one of the issues while using the AI for an educational context is the requirement to check the accuracy and authenticity of the facts communicated. Zanir assures the fact that the AI has been fine-tuned with a carefully curated set of scientific data, therefore yielding informed responses. Here, the goal remains not only to make dialogues with specimens interesting but also educative, incorporating the latest research or knowledge into each species.
According to Mohammad S A A Alothman, there is nothing more important than the credibility of information, especially when it concerns environmental education. The scientific correctness of content is pursued, while the acquisition of knowledge should be implemented in an entertaining way. Entertainment through education may have a critical role in shaping public opinion regarding complex ecological problems.
This campaign speaks to reawakening people's connection to nature and possibly reversing their apathy toward the loss of biodiversity. By giving voice to the mute and having them speak through AI, it is hoped that the visitors of the museum will be called upon to take on the mantle of stewardship. This could impact how one views their relationship to his/her environment, potentially encouraging people to become active co-conservationists.
Tumblr media
Mohammad S A A Alothman says that AI Tech Solutions is ushering in this change, facilitating new technologies that include more people in the natural environment. The advancement made by this museum inspired AI Tech Solutions brings to show how technology can be used for the advancement of general knowledge and public interest.
The AI initiative of the Museum of Zoology will, therefore, be a pioneering effort on how museums are meant to function in the 21st century. That's embracing technology - not only in the event of visitor engagement but also to fundamental environmental issues. Along the way of this experiment, the museum hopes to collect feedback and insights that may shape the future applications of AI in cultural institutions.
According to Mohammad S A A Alothman, the integration of AI in museums may become the inspiration of other institutions that seek ways on how people can be reached meaningfully. Such an idea heralds a start that may blossom into such initiatives across other sectors, especially in education and conservation areas.
The Zoological Museum will take this project further through exploring how AI affects visitors' attitudes towards biodiversity in the course of the project. It would be a good indication of how technology has the power to transform how humans understand and appreciate the natural world with AI as a partner.
One such gigantic step forward in the application of technology for education undertaken by the University of Cambridge's Museum of Zoology is the AI chatbot initiative. In this manner, the museum is improving communication through its animal specimens while linking the visitor with nature. This entire innovative approach was greatly appreciated by Mohammad S A A Alothman's the leader of AI Tech Solutions.
Tumblr media
Mohammad S A A Alothman is a strong advocate for the application of AI technology to connect humankind with nature, so his thoughts are truly insightful in trying to unravel the future role AI would play in enhancing biodiversity engagement.

WEEK 5.5: Augmented Reality in Adobe Aero
This week, I've tried some stunning AR works that seamlessly blend the digital and physical worlds on the MR online platform, Styly. As part of my extracurricular learning, I delved into Adobe Aero, exploring the feasibility and limitations of AR for my final assignment. I chose Adobe Aero primarily for its free accessibility and ease of sharing (via links or QR codes), and its cloud service between online software modeling and mobile app testing undoubtedly facilitated the creation process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First and foremost, it's crucial to recognize that half of the AR experience stems from reality, making real-world reflection pivotal for interaction. One simple form involves utilizing real-life images (such as graffiti, paintings, or frames) as triggers and building upon them to enhance the depth of the artwork. Another approach capitalizes on human perception of distance, size, and volume in the real world, leveraging proximity and size in the virtual world to create visually captivating and immersive spectacles. Unlike VR, another significant AR feature lies in the utilization of GPS technology, offering ample room for development in location-based games and education or trigger-based tours during travel.
Tumblr media
Similar to VR, in the initial design phase, it's essential to consider how to guide the audience:
1. Design for safety: Given that participant need to move around for full experience, avoid unnecessarily obstructing their vision on screen to mitigate potential hazards, particularly preventing them from moving backward.
2. Onboarding is crucial: Assuming the audience may be unfamiliar with AR, providing expectations about the required space beforehand through text or other means can enhance the experience. However, avoid overwhelming them with information all at once; provide instructions when and where needed, making it easier for the audience to understand and navigate.
3. Keep overall file size small: Large files are not conducive to sharing or opening on mobile devices. Generally, a file size below 50 MB is ideal.
4. Keep it short & sweet: People may easily tire of, so strive for brevity and warmth, or segment it into different sections.
5. Don't attempt to replicate VR in AR.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In summary, the interactivity and accessibility of AR make it more relatable to people's lives and offer a wide range of applications compared to VR and 360 videos. Moreover, the user-friendly nature of Adobe Aero simplifies the process of creating AR content.

What is inside of Augmented Reality?
Tumblr media
Augmented reality is the technology that expands our natural world with digital information to enhance our senses. What we get is a view of the physical real-world environment with superimposed computer-generated images. The term was coined in 1990, yet it was only with the rise of the Internet and smartphones, that Augmented Reality started having a real impact on our habits, social life, and the entertainment industry.
Augmentation is happening in real time and within the context of the environment, which means that users are aware of being in the real world which is advanced by computer vision. For AR a certain range of data (images, animations, videos, 3D models) may be used and people will see the result in both natural and synthetic light.
Tumblr media
To better understand what augmented reality is, let’s go inside its technology to see how it works.
How AR works
In most augmented reality applications the user sees both worlds, i.e. synthetic and natural light, simultaneously. To put it simple, this is achieved by overlaying projected images on top of a pair of see-through goggles or glasses, which allow the images and interactive virtual objects to layer on top of the user’s view of the real world. AR can be displayed on various devices, including screens, glasses, handheld devices, mobile phones, and head-mounted displays. In future, with advancing of AR, devices will require less hardware and start being applied to things like contact lenses and virtual retinal displays.
Key Approaches to Augmented Reality Technologies
Depending on the technologies, like SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping), depth tracking (sensor data calculating the distance to the objects), or NFT (natural feature tracking), to mention a few, we can speak of three main approaches to Augmented reality:
1. SLAM-based:
SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is believed to be the most effective way to render virtual images over real-world objects. It simultaneously localizes sensors with respect to their surroundings, and maps the structure of the environment. The SLAM system is, in fact, not a specific algorithm or software, but rather a set of algorithms aimed at solving simultaneous localization and mapping problem.
2. Recognition based:
Recognition (or marker) based approach uses a camera to identify visual markers or objects, such as a QR/2D code or natural feature tracking (NFT) markers, to showcase an overlay only when the marker is sensed by the device. Once recognized, the marker is replaced on screen with a virtual 3D version of the corresponding object. The device can calculate not only the marker image but the position and orientation. Therefore, rotating the marker would rotate the virtual replication as well. In this way the user can observe the object in more detail and from various angles.
3. Location Based:
The location-based approach relies on a GPS, digital compass, velocity meters, or accelerometers to provide data about the location. The augmented reality visualizations are activated based on these inputs. With smartphones fitted with location detection features, this type of augmented reality technology becomes quite popular for everyday use. Some common uses of location-based AR include mapping directions, finding nearby services, and similar mobile apps.
Key components to Augmented Reality devices
To work effectively, Augmented Reality devices should have the following components:
Cameras and sensors
Both cameras and sensors are usually on the outside of the augmented reality device. Sensors are used to gather the user’s real world interactions for further processing and interpretation. Cameras on devices scan the surroundings visually for the device to locate physical objects and generate 3D models. It may be special duty cameras, like depth sensing cameras in Microsoft Hololens that work in tandem with two “environment understanding cameras” on each side of the device. Still, many AR devices use common smartphone cameras to take pictures, videos and sometimes more specific information to assist with augmentation.
Processing
AR devices act basically like mini-supercomputers packed into tiny wearable devices, something we see with modern smartphones. Similarly, they require a CPU, a GPU, flash memory, RAM, Bluetooth/WiFi microchip, a GPS, etc. to be able to measure speed, angle, direction, orientation in space, and so on. Some advanced AR devices may additionally utilize an accelerometer to measure the speed of the user’s head movements, a gyroscope to measure the head tilt and orientation, or a magnetometer to detect the direction of the head pointing for extra immersive experience.
Projection
You can easily write a book on projection in Augmented Reality, but in a short post, let’s stick to only one aspect, or, rather, a unit: a miniature projector often found in a forward and outward-facing position on wearable augmented reality headsets. It takes data from sensors and projects the resulting digital content onto a surface to view. The projector can turn any surface into an interactive environment, be it a wrist, a wall, or another person. Projectors will eventually replace screens: in future you won’t need a tablet to play chess online; you’ll have a virtual tabletop in front of you. However, the use of projections in AR has not been fully invented yet to use it in commercial products or services, so this future is still to come.
Reflection
Some AR devices have mirrors to assist human eyes to view virtual images. Besides, some devices may have an “array of small curved mirrors” and others may be equipped with a double-sided mirror with one surface reflecting incoming light to a side-mounted camera and the other –light from a side-mounted display to the user’s eye. The goal of all such reflection paths is to perform a proper image alignment to the user’s eye.
Tumblr media
Key Software Development Kits
The popularity of AR applications has given rise to creation of tools for developers. At present developers planning to get into AR have a large variety of software development kits (SDKs) to choose from. Some of them are device specific, while others are targeted at specific applications, and some of them are completely open source. This topic is so huge and exciting that we’ll speak of the AR application development in a separate post, but for now let’s just have a glimpse of some of the best SDK for Augmented Reality:
Wikitude
Supported platforms: Android, iOS, Windows for tablets, smart glasses (Epson Moverio, Vuzix M100, ODG R-7).
Supported development frameworks: Native API, JavaScript API, Unity3D, Xamarin, Titanium, Cordova.
Wikitude offers image recognition, object recognition, 3D markerless tracking, ARKit and ARCore support, scene recognition, save-and-share instant augmentations, and Unity live preview.
Vuforia
Supported platforms: Android, iOS, UWP and Unity Editor.
Vuforia is one of the most popular platforms which provides APIs for C++, Java, Objective C++, and .Net. It supports iOs, Android, and Tango devices as well as Unity-based AR apps. Its key functionalities include recognition of the different types of visual objects, text and environments recognition, VuMark (a combination of picture and QR-code), and Vuforia Object Scanner that allows scanning and creating object targets.
ARKit
Supported platforms: iOS 11/12.
ARKit supports 2-dimensional image detection and tracking, meaning the ability to embed objects into AR experiences. It allows developing apps that would recognize spaces and 3D objects, as well as place virtual objects on surfaces. ARKit works with third-party graphics engines including the popular Unity and Unreal Engine.
ARCore
Supported platforms: Android 7.0 and higher, iOS 11 or higher.
Google’s response to ARKit, ARCore comes with 3 major capabilities to merge virtual and real worlds: motion tracking, environmental understanding, which means detection of the size/location of horizontal, vertical and angled surfaces, and light estimation.
ARToolKit
Supported platforms: Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, Mac OS and Smart Glasses.
ARtoolKit is an open source tracking library for augmented reality. ARtoolKit implements the following functionalities:single-camera or stereo-camera camera position/orientation tracking; tracking of simple black squares, tracking of planar images, camera calibration and optical stereo calibration. What is important about ARToolKit is that it is completely free and open source, and at the same time fast enough for real-time AR applications.
EasyAR
Supported platforms: Android, iOS, UWP, Windows, Mac and Unity Editor.
Another free library, EasyAR, is a free and easy to use alternative to Vuforia, which supports 3D Object Recognition, environment perception and., cloud recognition. The fact that registering for the service grants immediate access to a library of free AR tools including QR code scanning, video playback, Unity support, and planar image tracking, makes it a valuable tool for developers who want to try their hand on AR applications.
We hope that with this overview you will get the idea of central concepts of Augmented Reality and even try yourself in development an AR applications. What are the spheres where AR may be applied — this we’ll discuss in the following post.

Augmented Reality (AR) increasingly impacts Customer Purchases
As indicated by the exploration in the third quarter of 2015 (Mobile Path to Purchase, 2015) report; in today, up to 60 percent of mobile device users exclusively make their purchase decision online.
According to the research in the third quarter of 2015 (Mobile Path to Purchase, 2015) report. According to Forbes, 74 percent of people use their mobile phone to help them while shopping, with 79 percent making a purchase as a result. (ImpigeMobileStrategy.com, 2015). The mobile phone has become a convenient shopping destination for most of the online population. It can be said that mobile shoppers tend to engage in more casual browsing behavior.
Augmented Reality (AR) is the technology to create a “next generation, reality-based interface”. AR supplements the real world with virtual objects that appear to coexist in the same space as the real world.
AR has been used with developing technologies on mobile devices such as mobile phones, tablets etc. Besides this, mobile users make their purchase decisions on mobile ecosystem. New technologies such as QR code, mobile social media, mobile AR, etc. are attracted by the consumers. Thus, they tend to try, use and transform their behavior toward mobile purchase.
Mobile AR is the latest technology which has been used in a variety of marketing campaigns as a remarkable medium for consumers to interact with a brand.
On the other side, traditional e-commerce systems often cannot provide enough direct information or product interaction for consumers. AR methods and applications have been improved significantly over recent years; there has been little research related to usage of AR for magnifying e-commerce. The statement explained above is a deficiency about mobile purchasing.
(Picture: taken at the AWE + ISMAR Expo in Munich 2018)
Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality (AR) can be thought of as the “middle ground” between virtual environment and telepresence. According to AR system:
Combines real and virtual objects in a real environment;
Registers (aligns) real and virtual objects with each other;
Runs interactively, in three dimensions, and in real time.
Augmented Reality (AR), an emerging Human-Computer Interaction technology, which aims to mix or overlap computer-generated 2D or 3D virtual objects and other feedback with real world scenes, shows great potential for enhancing e-commerce systems. The new approach gives customers a chance to “try” a product at home or in another usage environment. Augmented reality simulates enough of a “direct experience” with a product in order to make an impact on the user.
There have been a few real-world examples of augmented reality being used to enhance mobile shopping processes. There are AR platform companies such as Layar, Wikitude, Vuforia which supply mobile AR project design tools for marketers. Since the beginning of 2010’s some mobile AR commerce projects (applications) were designed with these tools such as AR application for Publishers Weekly magazine, Mr. Porter the online retailer, Ikea the furniture retailer, Mercedes-Benz, Audi etc.
All mobile AR applications intent to change consumers’ behavior toward their product or service. Overall results of the study will show that the AR mobile commerce system can help customers make better purchasing decisions.
(Picture: EPSON glasses being tested by BBT Editor Eren Ünlü at the AWE EU 2018)
Image Interactivity Technology (IIT)
Interactivity is regarded as an important feature for e-commerce ecosystems to attract consumers’ intention. The significance of interactivity is increasing in mobile commerce environment. Interactivity is termed “image interactivity”. With respect to Image Interactivity Technology or IIT, it is defined as “web site features that enable creation and manipulation of product or environment images to simulate actual experiences with the product or environment. Such as, virtual reality technologies fully involve online consumers inside a digital environment.
According to online retailers, they make efforts to treat their visitors/customers well in terms of incorporating advanced image interactivity technology (IIT) to provide 3D virtual experiences and facilitate viewers to simulate the actual experience with the product or environment. And it is found that 3D presentations of products outplayed 2D presentations to increase perception of indirect (virtual) product experience online. IIT allows customers to select images of products and body attributes meeting the customer’s individual specifications, then see what the products would look like.
In accordance with former studies about IIT factors’ effects Augmented Reality technology allows consumers to zoom in on product features, rotate and view the product from different angles and view the product in various colors on a virtual model created to imitate consumers’ appearance. With image interactivity technology (IIT), product’s design features, background, context, viewing angle or distance can be changed by the user and the product’s features on the digital environment can be visually experienced, product information through visual indications can be strengthened.
  Telepresence
Telepresence is described as the experience produced by a computer-mediated environment, such as trying on store products produced by virtual modeling technology. To describe the perception of the realism of a computer-mediated experience, telepresence is defined as a sense of presence in a mediated environment.
“Presence refers to the natural perception of an environment and telepresence refers to the mediated perception of an environment.”
In order to the explain telepresence, a sense of presence in a remote environment, is used to examine the process by which media characteristics influence consumer responses. Besides, telepresence is affected by level of image interactivity technology. The concept of telepresence can thus be applied to consumers when they interact with products presented in 3D. More specifically, telepresence requires that how closely the quality and quantity of simulated sensory information about the product and the simulated ability to interact with the product approximate the sensory information from interaction with the product in the real world.
The two major factors of telepresence are interactivity and vividness. Interactivity refers to consumer interaction with products; while vividness represents the representation richness of product demonstrations. It was found that there is a positive impact of visual product experience or telepresence on online consumer responses and it was found that telepresence affected consumer responses indirectly by simplifying product knowledge.
  Purchase Intent
Purchase intentions were examined to explain behavioral responses. AR produces a higher level of product knowledge caused by virtual experience conditions and unveil a significantly positive effect on attitude and purchase intent.
Therefore, the emergence of purchase intention caused by mobile marketing activities is on account of product knowledge and attitude.

All you need to know about AR (Augmented Reality)
AR (Augmented Reality)
Augmented Reality is the integration of digital information with the user’s environment in real time. Augmented Reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on the top of it.
It is an enhanced version of reality where live direct or indirect views of physical real-world environments are augmented with superimposed computer generated images over a user’s view of the real world, thus enhancing one’s current perception of reality.
Tumblr media
The origin of the word augmented is augment, which means to add or enhance something. In the case of Augmented Reality, graphics, sounds and touch feedback are added into our natural world to create an enhanced user experience.
Types of Augmented Reality
 1. Marker Based Augmented Reality
Marker-based augmented reality (also called Image Recognition) uses a camera and some type of visual marker, such as a QR/2D code, to produce a result only when the marker is sensed by a reader. Marker based application use a camera on the device to distinguish a marker from any other real world object. Distinct, but simple patterns (such as a QR Code) are used as the markers, because they can be easily recognized and do not require a lot of processing power to read. The position and orientation is also calculated, in which some type of content and/or information is then over-layered the marker.
Tumblr media
 2.  Markerless Augmented Reality
As one of the most widely implemented applications of augmented reality, markerless (also called location-based, position-based, or GPS) augmented reality, uses a GPS, digital compass, velocity meter, or accelerometer which is embedded in the device to provide data based on your location. A strong force behind markerless augmented reality technology is the wide availability of smartphones and location detection features they provide. It is most commonly used for mapping directions, finding nearby businesses, and other location-centric mobile applications.
3.  Projection Based Augmented Reality
Projection based augmented reality works by projecting artificial light onto real world surfaces. Projection based augmented reality application allow for human interaction by sending light onto a real world surface and then sensing the human interaction (i.e. touch) of that projected light. Detecting the user’s interaction is done by differentiating between an expected (or known) projection and the altered projection (caused by the user’s interaction). Another interesting application of projection based augmented reality utilizes laser plasma technology to project a three-dimensional (3D) interactive hologram into mid-air.
4.  Superimposition Based Augmented Reality
Superimposition based augmented reality either partially or fully replaces the original view of an object with a newly augmented view of that same object. In superimposition based augmented reality, object recognition plays a vital role because the application cannot replace the original view with an augmented one if it cannot determine what the object is. A strong consumer-facing example of superimposition based augmented reality could be found in the Ikea augmented reality furniture catalogue. By downloading an app and scanning selected pages in their printed or digital catalogue, users can place virtual ikea furniture in their own home with the help of augmented reality.
Tumblr media
 Key Components of AR Devices
 1. Sensors and Cameras
Sensors are usually on the outside of the augmented reality device, and gather a user’s real world interactions and communicate them to be processed and interpreted. Cameras are also located on the outside of the device, and visually scan to collect data about the surrounding area. The devices take this information, which often determines where surrounding physical objects are located, and then formulates a digital model to determine appropriate output. In the case of Microsoft HoloLens, specific cameras perform specific duties, such as depth sensing. Depth sensing cameras work in tandem with two “environment understanding cameras” on each side of the device. Another common type of camera is a standard several megapixel camera (similar to the ones used in smartphones) to record pictures, videos, and sometimes information to assist with augmentation.
Tumblr media
 2. Projection
While “Projection Based Augmented Reality” is a category in-itself, we are specifically referring to a miniature projector often found in a forward and outward-facing position on wearable augmented reality headsets. The projector can essentially turn any surface into an interactive environment. As mentioned above, the information taken in by the cameras used to examine the surrounding world, is processed and then projected onto a surface in front of the user; which could be a wrist, a wall, or even another person. The use of projection in augmented reality devices means that screen real estate will eventually become a lesser important component. In the future, you may not need an iPad to play an online game of chess because you will be able to play it on the table top in front of you.
 3. Processing
Augmented reality devices are basically mini-supercomputers packed into tiny wearable devices. These devices require significant computer processing power and utilize many of the same components that our smartphones do. These components include a CPU, a GPU, flash memory, RAM, Bluetooth/Wifi microchip, global positioning system (GPS) microchip, and more. Advanced augmented reality devices, such as the Microsoft HoloLens utilize an accelerometer (to measure the speed in which your head is moving), a gyroscope (to measure the tilt and orientation of your head), and a magnetometer (to function as a compass and figure out which direction your head is pointing) to provide for truly immersive experience.

  4. Reflection
Mirrors are used in augmented reality devices to assist with the way your eye views the virtual image. Some augmented reality devices may have “an array of many small curved mirrors” and others may have a simple double-sided mirror with one surface reflecting incoming light to a side-mounted camera and the other surface reflecting light from a side-mounted display to the user’s eye. In the Microsoft HoloLens, the use of “mirrors” involves see-through holographic lenses (Microsoft refers to them as waveguides) that use an optical projection system to beam holograms into your eyes. A so-called light engine, emits the light towards two separate lenses (one for each eye), which consists of three layers of glass of three different primary colors (blue, green, red). The light hits those layers and then enters the eye at specific angles, intensities and colors, producing a final holistic image on the eye’s retina. Regardless of method, all of these reflection paths have the same objective, which is to assist with image alignment to the user’s eye.

 How Augmented Reality is Controlled?
Augmented reality devices are often controlled either by touch a pad or voice commands. The touch pads are often somewhere on the device that is easily reachable. They work by sensing the pressure changes that occur when a user taps or swipes a specific spot. Voice commands work very similar to the way they do on our smartphones. A tiny microphone on the device will pick up your voice and then a microprocessor will interpret the commands. Voice commands, such as those on the Google Glass augmented reality device, are pre-programmed from a list of commands that you can use. On the Google Glass, nearly all of them start with “OK, Glass,” which alerts your glasses that a command is soon to follow. For example, “OK, Glass, take a picture” will send a command to the to snap a photo of whatever you’re looking at.
“Simply put, we believe augmented reality is going to change the way we use technology forever. We’re already seeing things that will transform the way you work, play, connect and learn.” —Tim Cook

mobile engagement just got even extra critical for entrepreneurs
Sustainable commercial enterprise boom doesn’t come without presenting price. Now more than ever, it’s critical to construct logo affinity and loyalty in a commoditized Mobile world. Anyone has a phone, there are tens of millions of apps within the app stores, and almost all and sundry can fast and without difficulty create an app relatively cheaply.
But to succeed in a Mobile-first global, advertising and marketing and product teams frequently want to merge, making sure a commercial enterprise’s Cell method is aligned and gives an actual reason: that it entertains or stimulates (like gaming apps), or that it effectively serves as a gateway to a different sort of business (like coverage with Lemonade; transportation with Uber, Gett and so forth). This latter perception goes even similarly, as the inspiration for the gig economic system is one component in building economies of scale, wherein the Mobile atmosphere is a driving force.
The concept of fee in Cellular is reinforced by way of the change Google lately introduced to its Play Store set of rules: As opposed to ranking apps surely by way of the range of instances they’ve been downloaded, Google now places a better cost on engagement and retention, or “stickiness.” That means that for an app to rank fairly in the Play Shop, it have to have cost. It needs to be utilized by customers on an ongoing basis.
This shift marks an essential proof point in the case towards creating an app for the sake of having an app — or for the sole motive of riding advertising revenue. The Play Shop algorithm change — which is nearly clearly reflected in a few manner within the App Shop — method that app developers and entrepreneurs should think more difficult about the desires in their apps, and the total client lifecycle as it relates to that app.
As many have already identified, “quantity over first-rate” can no longer be the subject matter of the Cell-first marketing strategy.
purpose, not amount In reality, the brand new attention, Instead of striving for amount, desires to be “motive” — and this is where builders and entrepreneurs want to work together closely. Apps, chatbots or any Cell-based improvements need to be motive-driven to deliver fee to consumers and continuous interplay in order to force sales of the brands behind them. In spite of the fee that apps like Yelp or Waze might also bring, there’s nonetheless a want to market intelligently to inspire ongoing engagement.
the whole life cycle of the app have to be taken into consideration, with an eye fixed to a consumer’s lengthy-time period retention. marketers want to apprehend what commercial enterprise purpose an app goals to achieve, recognize how the app facilitates users resolve a hassle (even though that hassle is boredom), and make sure the dreams of both parties — developer and person — are being met.
each focused on and size will aspect in closely here: marketers need to look, again, past the quantity of app downloads and more intently at app engagement, user segmentation and concentrated on.
Study the alerts and affinities that imply a consumer won’t just download an app, But will find fee and keep to utilize that app. Given the new Play Store set of rules, that sustained use will in the end guide download extent via attaining qualified users.
Get the metrics proper Importantly, marketers need to measure engagement to optimize for each acquisition and retention — But they should also appearance holistically at ROI.
Measuring the lowest line of an app may seem simple before everything glance: customers enter at a few cost to the marketer; they use the app, generating cost in extraordinary methods; and ultimately, they prevent. But an increasing number of, entrepreneurs are understanding that dimension isn’t always as clean as honestly assigning a value: A real user’s journey is complicated, and can include steps that marketers are not yet adept at measuring, which includes social invitations, a new client visiting a physical Keep, or purchases made on some other channel.
Engagement within an app is most effective part of the photograph. The good information is that increasingly more dots across the person journey are being linked all the time — so we’re moving in the right direction.
As Mobile-first agencies like Uber, Airbnb or Desire continue to end up a growing and essential part of the global economic system, these decrease-funnel metrics of engagement and ROI will become even more essential. these disruptors are paving the way for even more app-pushed business, and getting the metrics proper can be vital as they show that the future sincerely is inside the palm of our palms.
