Hiring a customs broker in the USA can help speed up this process and avoid any delays.

How will Tariffs effect the Historical Costume Community?
How will Tariffs effect the Historical Costume Community?
Maybe it was divine inspiration that I chose the summer of 2025 to semi-retire, because textiles are about to increase, ya'll! - so are avocados, strawberries, and fruits and vegetables from Mexico; electronics (from China) - like your cell phones and computers, televisions. But it doesn't stop there: building supplies, car parts, clothing, toys, medical supplies, medications, and much, much more is about to increase!
Why?
Because of Trump's brilliant economic plan to implement tariffs on countries like China, Mexico, and Canada on "Day one," to quote him directly.
Yes, that was sarcasm. For those who haven't been following the dire warnings economists worldwide and in America were shouting to the rooftops, i.e., that tariffs will cause economic disaster for many companies in the USA, and you still think the cost of gas and eggs and groceries are going to decrease in the Trump administration, boy oh boy are ya'll gonna have a huge awakening come January 20, 2025.
The way tariffs work is like this: American companies, who purchase goods outside of America, "are the ones who pay the tariffs" - NOT the companies sending goods to America for American consumers to buy. American companies will be paying MORE to import goods from other companies, and that increase will be passed on to the American people. These large corporations, who have already been recording record breaking profits since 2020, will use Trump’s tariffs as an excuse to raise their prices even more! – because there are no regulations on what they can charge the public. ALSO, they will be receiving more tax cuts, while the rest of us, especially the middle class who already carry the burden of the majority of the taxes in the USA, will see an increase in our taxes. These tariffs will cost us an additional $2500 a year per household. That doesn't sound like much, but it adds up, especially for many who are already barely scraping by - myself included.
How will these tariffs impact the historical costume community specifically?
While Mexico, China and Canada are our top exports (places we buy from), the following countries are ALSO popular sources that USA consumers import textiles and clothing:
Vietnam
India
Bangladesh
Indonesia
Honduras
The majority of fine woolen textiles are exported from the UK. The cost of wool will also be affected, with costs going up from 10 to 20%. Maybe that doesn’t sound like much, but when you’re already paying $30 to $40 (and more) a yard for a good wool product an additional $3 to $6 per yard will carry a punch on my client’s budgets.
Companies like Silk Baron, who import silk fabrics in bulk from places like India, will have to increase their prices by a minimum of 20%. The price of silk is already $20 to $30 or more a yard through Silk Baron, and we can expect their prices to increase to $22 to $24, or $33 to $36 a yard.
Fabric-Store.com, used to only charge $12 a yard for linen, but beginning in 2020 they have raised their prices every year and are now charging $18 a yard. The impacts of tariffs will only increase these costs.
Trump’s tariffs on China will raise prices by 60%, and 10 to 20% to other countries who import goods to the USA. Tariffs impact consumers, NOT the companies who produce the products and ship them to American businesses.
Walmart and Lowes have already rung a warning nell that their prices are about to increase. According to an article by Reuters, a Walmart spokesperson stated, “We're concerned that significantly increased tariffs could lead to increased costs for our customers at a time when they are still feeling the remnants of inflation"…"Trump has vowed to make tariffs, which are a fraction of U.S. tax collections, central to his economic agenda. Executives have been increasingly fielding questions on the subject, with many noting ongoing efforts to continue to diversify their supply chains, particularly away from China, Trump's top target.”
Additionally, the CFO of Lowe’s, Brandon Silk, said: "Roughly 40% of our cost of goods sold are sourced outside of the U.S., and that includes both direct imports and national brands through our vendor partners"…"And as we look at the potential impacts (of tariffs), it certainly would add to product costs." These tariffs will impact the cost of appliances and building supplies, which means the cost of new construction will increase.
Grocery stores, who were already price gouging consumers since the pandemic, are beginning to raise their prices. By the way, the President of the United States (or the Vice President) does not control the prices that big corporations charge consumers, it’s greed on the part of these companies like Albertson’s, Fred Meyer, etc., who set the prices. Harris planned to institute regulations to control their greed and lower the cost of groceries, etc., but Trump’s “tariffs,’ WILL absolutely affect American consumers.
Furthermore, voters, pissed off about Biden’s handling of Hamas, voted for Trump in protest. By the way, Trump and his entire administration are 100% pro-Israel, and support the atrocities Netanyahu has perpetrated against innocent civilians who have nothing to do with the terrorists of Hamas.
Voting is the equivalent to an open book examination in college or high school. All the information needed to educate yourselves on the issues are available at your fingertips, but you have to open the damn book! Voters, angry about Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people, chose not to educate themselves about what control or influence on world politics a Vice President actually HAS. Harris was not pro-Israel, but publicly stated she was against Palestinian and Israeli aggression.
When textile and supply prices go up, those increases affect the cost for costumers. The tariffs that will be implemented will increase costs by 60% from any goods purchased from China. For my business, this will impact such items as “freshwater pearls,” that I use on my costume embellishment. China is the world’s largest exporter of pearls, which are “grown” or farmed in that country.
Coates embroidery thread, which I use in my embroidery machines, are based in Mexico. With Trump’s tariffs the cost will go up 20%. A spool of Coates gold metallic thread is $12.99 at JoAnns. That will increase by roughly $2.60 per spool.
Faux Baleen from Germany, used in corsetry, will go up anywhere from 10 to 20%.
American Duchess, who contracts with shoemakers in China to produce their historical shoes will have to raise their prices by 60%!!
Buttons, thread, fabric, notions, everything you can imagine used in the creation of historical costumes are imported from China. Tariffs will have a noticeable impact on the entire historical costume community, which is already an expensive hobby.
At a time when American’s are paying more for goods and groceries than other countries, not only will tariffs impact the economy, but Trump and the Republicans as outlined in Project 2025, plan to cut Social Security by no less than 20%, but they also are planning to do away with it entirely, to include social security disability, which millions of disabled and retired Americans depend on to exist.
In a word, and I don’t give a flying fig that I’m bringing politics into historical costuming, you voted for more inflation and higher cost of goods. It would behoove all ya’ll among the younger generations to use Google and research how the stock market crash of 1929 happened, and how tariffs played a significant role in exacerbating the Great Depression.
The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, passed in June 1930, was a key factor. This act raised tariffs on thousands of imported goods in an attempt to protect American industries and farmers, which had unintended consequences such as:
Retaliation by Other Countries: Many countries responded by imposing their own tariffs on American goods, which led to a significant decline in international trade.
Reduction in Exports and Imports: American exports and imports fell by about 67% during the Great Depression. This decline in trade worsened the economic downturn.
Global Economic Impact: The tariffs contributed to a global economic slowdown, making it harder for the U.S. and other countries to recover from the depression.
These consequences ended in joblessness, as companies closed down. Read about the how the banks went under, people lost their jobs, resulting in widespread foreclosures, and the rise in shanty towns to house millions of homeless who were once productive members among the middle class.
Is this hyperbole? No! If you do not educate yourselves, history will repeat itself. Trump’s tariffs will impact Americans on a catastrophic level, as well as impact the global economy.
So, next time, maybe study for the “open book test” rather than sourcing your information from word of mouth like, you know, Fox News.
Hang on to your butts, it’s gonna get rough for all of us.
P.S: If you voted for him, and your fee-fees are hurt by this article, don't you dare say one hateful thing in my blog or my Facebook page or you will be blocked.

What would happen to the richest countries in the world these days because they export oil when my story takes place in 2400 and and the oil is all gone and these countries are where my story actually takes place. Where all the money is now is pretty much the countries that produce cutting edge technology.
Licorice: 2400 CE is 376 years in the future.
Which countries were the richest 376 years ago? That would take us back to 1648. The richest country in the world was China, with India not far behind. The Ottoman Empire was another superpower, and most of today’s Middle Eastern oil states were its posessions. The USA didn’t even exist. The British had barely begun building their empire; the Netherlands and France were both far richer and more powerful than GB, but the European powerhouse was Spain with its Latin American colonial empire pumping out seemingly inexhaustible supplies of silver and gold bullion, inspiring a golden age of piracy in the Caribbean.
China, India, France: their wealth was based mostly on strong diverse domestic economies.
Britain, Portugal and the Netherlands: they were too small and poor to build a China-type self-sufficient diverse economy. They grew rich on trade.
Ottoman Empire: a multicultural melting pot covering roughly the same geographic area as the Eastern Roman Empire, the Ottomans had it all. But they fell behind in the 19th century, and the empire was torn apart by the waves of nationalism that swept across the globe after the French Revolution. The Ottoman Empire no longer exists.
Spain grew rich in the same way the oil economies grew rich, by mining a single commodity and using it to pay for everything
A country like the USA is going to be as fine as anywhere can be after the oil is gone. Like China, India and the EU they will diversify into renewable resources and keep right on truckin’ because their economies are sufficiently wealthy and diverse, their population sufficiently educated, and their governments sufficiently forward thinking to do this.
Back in the 18th century, the measly little island of Britain took the wealth it earned from trade to invest in R&D, invented the industrial revolution, and used its tech advantage to conquer an empire the likes of which had never hitherto been seen.
Spain, on the other hand, didn’t invest in itself. The gold and silver from the Spanish Main trickled through its fingers the way easy money always does with lottery winners. Much of the bullion ended up in China via British, Dutch, and Portuguese ships. Spain’s empire disintegrated in the 19th century.
In short, if you’re a country with a booming economy dependent on a single non-renewable commodity, and you are smart, you will use that wealth to build your competitive advantage in diverse areas of human economic activity. You will educate your population to be creative and entrepreneurial. This is more likely to happen if your government is some flavour of democracy.
If you’re not smart or if your government is controlled by a small clique of aristocrats or a dictator and his court with no accountability to the future, your elite will simply take most of the wealth for themselves, stick it into Swiss bank accounts, and leave the country impoverished and under-developed when they flee the inevitable coup.
Since the history of the years 2024-2400 hasn’t yet been written, it’s up to you to decide what the countries in your story are going to do. All of them are well aware that the oil bonanza will not last forever. You might find this useful: “How the Gulf Region is Planning for Life After Oil”.
So, which of your countries will be smart and which will be foolish? Which ones will have the foresight to build a viable post-oil future for themselves, and which ones will slide backwards into poverty, ignorance, and oppression? You decide.

Reciprocal and Import Duty Tarrifs Announced on “Liberation Wednesday.”
· · ────────── · ·
Wednesday April 2nd, 2025, on the day President Donald J. Trump declared “Liberation” Wednesday, he said, “Today will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America's destiny was reclaimed and the day that we began to make America wealthy again."
Trump has introduced a 10% universal import duty on all goods brought into the U.S, intended to go into effect on April 5th. He has also introduced reciprocal tariffs toward the “worst offenders” set to go into effect April 9th. Mr. President reports that reciprocal tariffs vaguely mean “If they do it to us, and we do it to them. It can’t get any simpler than that.”
Reciprocal tariffs apply the same tax on U.S. buy-ins that other countries place on American exports on a product-by-product basis. Trump says that these reciprocal tariffs will affect the calculations to cover non-monetary trade barriers.
Even with Trump’s promise for this action to lower US prices, economists say the tariffs will boost prices on many products purchased by American consumers, at a time when inflation still remains elevated. Many leaders across the world have reacted negatively to the news, stating things along the lines that they don’t want a trade war, or trade barriers. That they’re going to try the best that they can to still work with the US, however they don’t see exactly how both countries benefit from the raise.
"The tariffs' only clear beneficiaries, meanwhile, will be corporate cronies, K Street influence peddlers and American adversaries who profit from the United States' tarnished international reputation," report two trade experts, Grabow and Lincicome.
Trump says, “These tariffs will help rebuild our economy and to prevent cheating."
“China will be hit with a 34% reciprocal tariff, the European Union 20%, Vietnam 46%, Taiwan 32%, Japan 24%, India 26% and South Korea 25%. The chart showed Cambodia facing the highest reciprocal tariff, at 49%, followed by Laos at 48% and Madagascar at 47%.”
Trump says that his spearhead goal from this is to reduce US dependence on foreign goods. Administration says that tariffs will bring both foreign and domestic companies to expand in the U.S., lead to more balanced trade with economic allies, and generate federal revenue that can be used for other priorities.
“Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens,” says Trump. Although for many people, they won’t be able to afford the raise of prices with the increase of tariffs.
While we cannot be sure about the result of this action, it will cause a radical change in either a good direction for the American Peoples, or it’ll spool down the drain and only aid the rich.

Thanks to 2024!
The last day of 2024… I still remember how excited we were at the turn of the millennium, and now a quarter of a century has passed.
It’s been an interesting and challenging year. But the way it ends reminds me of December 2021. I’m not going to compare fertiliser and agricultural commodity prices or make any sort of direct comparison; I’m talking about that general feeling. At the end of 2021, apart from the political tension between Ukraine and Russia, there was deferred demand. Consumers in the main “spring” markets had missed the chance to buy at lower prices and decided to wait until the application season, essentially hitting reset.
This year, by contrast, we’re on the verge of some kind of de-escalation between Ukraine and Russia. However, demand remains deferred: India, which is supposed to be urea self-sufficient in 2025; the US, which is lagging behind its usual purchase pace; and the EU, with rising gas prices and decreasing production.
A quick word about gas prices. Let’s closely watch whether “third-country” gas will be allowed to flow through Ukraine’s gas infrastructure. Interestingly, history seems to be repeating itself. For those unfamiliar, just google RusUkrEnergo. The idea of “third-country” gas flowing through Ukraine isn’t new.
But until (or if) this happens, the EU remains in a highly uncertain position regarding gas supply, especially during the winter months. Add to that Iran’s production challenges and Southeast Asia’s unstable supply...
I haven’t forgotten about China. It could be a game changer if or when they decide to export. However, I sense the country is undergoing some kind of internal regulatory shift, and those rules haven’t been clearly defined yet.
I stopped categorising years as “good” or “bad” a long time ago. Every year is a part of my life and personal history, and I’m grateful for each one. I’m also thankful to all of you who read my posts, to my sellers and buyers, shipowners and logistics providers, banks and financial institutions. And, of course, my biggest shout-out and best wishes for 2025 go to my business partners and colleagues at GG Trading DMCC. What an honour it is to be part of this amazing team!
Happy New Year, everyone! Best wishes, and enjoy this wonderful life!

Its many gifts to the world's palate include a wide variety of mouthwatering fruits that thrive in its fertile soil and beneficial environment. The demand for these delicious Indian fruits has sharply increased in recent years on a global scale, with the United States emerging as a significant market.

A lot more goes into the process of exporting fresh Indian fruits to the US than simply taking them off trees and sending them across the ocean, as this Farm to Fork story explains. The delivery of a piece of India's thriving agriculture to American customers is the result of careful cultivation, exacting quality control, global logistics, regulatory compliance, and intelligent marketing. Here you will get information about the export and import of fruits from India to the USA.
How To Export Fruits from India to USA
Fruit exports from India to the USA can be successful but demand careful planning, consideration of various rules, and compliance with industry standards. The following is a guide for exporting fruits from India to the USA:
Market analysis and selection of products:
Perform a thorough market analysis to determine which fruits are popular in the USA. Think about elements like consumer preferences, seasonal availability, and current rivalry. Choose fruit kinds that are appropriate for long-distance travel and have export potential.
Regulation Compliance Requirements:
Understand the phytosanitary and quality standards set out by the United States Department of Agriculture, also known by its abbreviation USDA, and the Food and Drug Administration, also referred to as FDA. Validate that the fruit types you have chosen to comply with all import regulations in the USA, including pest control procedures and pesticide MRLs (Maximum Residue Limits).
Certification and quality assurance:
Put quality control systems in place during the production, harvesting, and packing phases. Obtain the required certifications, such as Global GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) or applicable organic certifications.
Harvesting and Packaging:
To ensure the best flavor and durability, pick the fruits when they are at their ripest. Make sure you use packaging materials that adhere to international standards, such as cartons, crates, or containers. Put adequate labeling in place that includes product details, barcodes, and the country of origin.
Logistics for Cold Chains:
Operate the cold chain to keep the fruits fresh and of high quality while they are being transported. To guarantee temperature control, spend money on refrigerated containers or storage spaces.
Documentation and Customs Clearance:
With the assistance of fresh fruit exporters in India, put together the required export paperwork, such as the bill of lading, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, and invoice. Follow customs laws, such as those relating to tax compliance, labeling requirements, and import permits.
Selecting Export Partners:
Find trustworthy US export partners or agents who can help with distribution and local marketing. To manage the difficulties of the American market, work with knowledgeable importers or distributors.
Logistics and Shipping:
Pick a trustworthy freight forwarder with experience shipping perishable goods. Plan the delivery schedule well in advance, accounting for seasonal changes and transportation times.

Create a marketing plan to market your Indian fruit in the US. Attend trade events, use digital marketing, and establish connections with regional wholesalers and merchants.
Feedback and Continuous Improvement:
To improve the efficiency of your export operation and the quality of your products, gather distributor and consumer feedback. Continually enhance your export processes using the knowledge gained from past shipments.
