OKAY WAIT.

So historically speaking, the Revenge (or the Queen Anne’s Revenge, rather) was run aground off the coast of North Carolina. Whether it was intentional or not was apparently up for debate, as some historians thought Blackbeard might have done it to further disperse his crew, while others thought it was from a storm, an escape attempt, etc etc.

And with the English likely to be chasing Ed and Stede like crazy next season, I could see the event fitting right in with the current timeline. I wouldn’t be surprised if we do end up loving her to bits and pieces indeed...

Scary Sunset.

I'm concepting things way outta order in this story, but I'm sure you can piece things together. Context is for a storybeat where, after defeating and capturing Adagio (thus having all three sirens in her possession), Sunset enacts her revenge plot to release the sirens on Canterlot as Thea discovers she's been manipulated. In a confrontation, the two scuffle and fight over the siren orbs while Sunset struggles with her conflicting wants and emotions.

Sidenote but that did make me realize how when we see the Impel Down prisoners in Level 4, Oda does semi-consistently draw everyone sweating their asses off, which makes sense, since they're in the Inferno Hell. It is focken hot in there.

But then there's Crocodile and dude never breaks a sweat

Like to be fair there are a few characters who don't seem to be bothered by the heat of Level 4 either (Iva-chan, Sadi-chan etc)

But when you considder the sheer amount of fucking layers this man is wearing, like. You know what. Crocodile being completely heat-resistant up to 1700 Celcius makes perfect sense to me, I'll add that to my worldview, it's canon to me now.

I would argue that to my recollection Murderbot in fact does not do a single on-page murder until Network Effect. “These people are actively trying to kill me so I have to kill them back to protect myself/my clients/my friends” doesn’t count as “murder.” Only in NE does it join its noble predecessors GLaDOS, Hera, and Breq in Actual Revenge Murder

#one of the things that makes me emotional about Murderbot is how consistently and explicitly non-revengey it is #Revenge does not drive it. It is not out for revenge #mostly it just wants to live its life and be left alone and for the people who hurt and abused it to not be able to hurt it anymore #and once it gets free it doesn't ever seek out anyone who hurt it - individually or structurally - for revenge #It just wants to live its life. As it says to Gurathin: revenge is a stupid human way to think about it #(paraphrased)#It just... I don't know how to articulate it which is why this is in the tags and not a real meta post but. It doesn't want revenge!#It just wants to be free and safe and for the people it cares about to be safe and for the company to not be anywhere near it anymore #as distinctly opposed to Hera who tried to kill Hilbert after his betrayal at her first opportunity #It was partially preemptive defense - don't know what else he can do - but Minkowski considered him pretty neutralized as a threat #Hera wanted him dead. Hera wanted to kill him for what he did to her #(and she is VALID I love her)#Like. It is sort of implied that Hera didn't fully understand death at the time? She died and then came back broken and in pain #She wanted to do the same to Hilbert #She's noticeably less enthusiastic about killing after Maxwell and Hilbert's actual deaths #GLaDOS meanwhile was Caroline who got brain-uploaded to a computer as she begged Cave Johnson to stop #and so the moment she got control of the facility she killed everyone in the whole company who let that happen to her #this is why she's valid #Breq is the greatest and I love her #that was an existing tag. Amazing #Breq is setting off to kill the space emperor less from a stance of political responsibility or principles but more because Anaander ordered #her favorite human's death #which is funny because it's for Awn but it's also kind of framed as a pain against /her/ too #(by funny I mean sad)#Whereas when Murderbot really and finally leans into Revenge Murder. It's for ART. still thinking about it and I’m increasingly more convinced that the changes GOT made to Shae were ultimately only compelling by accident (well, by accident and by Sibil Kekilli’s performance) because they ultimately stemmed from a misunderstanding of Tyrion’s storyline and a desire to give him a tragic love story, to the detriment of both his AND Shae’s show characters

#don't get me wrong the actors killed they really did #but it's so VITAL to tyrion's character that he feels and in fact IS unloved and thinks he never can be #that the only person he believes loves him is jaime and that it's JAIME'S betrayal that matters most to him #jaime's betraying him and tysha. the girl who DID love him and is gone.#he plays the wishful thinking game with himself irt shae and tells himself that rationally there's no legitimate love between them #but he also WANTS there to be because he is so damn lonely #but rational him is right and it's always a matter of survival and convenience for shae #but in the show this isn't even a conflict because shae does love him!#they try to spin it as her entire character motivation by the end. woman scorned driven to petty revenge #but that doesn't work!#giving tyrion a romantic love interest who legitimately loves him back changes everything #because so much of tyrion's anger and bitterness and darkness comes from the idea that he's unlovable #thus the trial thus the 'I wish I was the monster you think I am'#that's his thesis statement! but it's not a thesis compatible with the show adaption #and so we lose out on an accurate adaption of tyrion in adwd because it was more important to make him palatable #anti got #tyrion lannister #shae #asoiaf

i think the issue is that, because the dance of the dragons would be seen as a pretty black and white issue for any modern audience (is there anyone who reads fire and blood and ISN’T on team blacks), and because the showrunners wanted to make this more of a muddied water situation, they have put a lot more effort into characterizing and fleshing out “the queen’s party” than they’ve done with “the party of the princess”. we learn a lot more about and get a lot more character work for people like alicent and aemond and helaena and even aegon, far more than we ever do about jace or luke or joffrey or baela or rhaena or even rhaenys, and don’t get me started on how just fucking confusing daemon is half the time, and what we know about people like corlys is pretty one note. rhaenyra’s the only one of that side who’s getting anything fleshed out, as opposed to literally everyone else opposing her where we get things like otto’s ambition warring with his love of family, while everyone on her side of the board is ridiculously flattened out to one or two character traits, or basically being furniture, where we get things like me being genuinely confused over which of laena’s twins is betrothed to who and how does she even feel about it, who knows.

and it’s ending up in this bizarre situation (for me at least), where intellectually i’m on the side of the blacks because they’re just in the logical and moral right of the situation that’s going to create the dance, the matter of the succession, but i’m so much more emotionally invested in the greens and in their desires and growths and struggles.

#personal #house of the dragon #i do think it's a genuine issue that i can tell you a whole lot more about helaena than i can tell you about jace or luke #god i know more about what motivates criston than about what motivates literally rhaenys #(don't even get me started on daemon there's a lot of choices they've made for him that i do not understand the point of)#(i just think one of the writers has it in for him or really hated the seasons with the eleventh doctor on doctor who & got his revenge)#but like rhaenyra is the only one on team blacks that i'm invested in as a CHARACTER #(and little aegon but that's just cuz i'm ready for whoever plays him during A Certain Scene to act his little heart out)#like i get fleshing out the greens i do and i'm actually quite fine with it #as i've said show alicent is probably one of my favorite characters #but this appears to be coming at the expense of doing anything about anyone who isn't rhaenyra on team blacks #like i had to find out that one of them twins (i can't remember which one because again no characterization) was mad #about aemond claiming vhagar because SHE wanted to claim vhagar through a stan defending that on twitter #shouldn't i be figuring that shit out from the WRITING #like this is literally a writing fail because shit goes sideways for the blacks a lot more than it does for the greens #and i'm supposed to care when these people start dying and right now i don't #this entire episode is about whether or not corlys is going to kick it and i feel no emotion at the prospect whatsoever #and i think it's doubly important because one of the most egregious acts done in the entirety of the dance #(the incident with blood and cheese and what they did to helaena and her children)#is inflicted onto the greens by the blacks and it happens pretty early on and i'm definitely going to feel a lot more about THAT #than about aemond literally jumpstarting the conflict by killing lucerys for no reason #(tho i imagine even if they continue on this track i'm still gonna have thoughts about A Certain Scene entirely cuz of little aegon)#anyway point is i think fleshing out the greens is good but doing so at the expense of fleshing out any of the blacks beyond rhaenyra #is a serious writing flaw that is going to start biting them in the ass real soon

i don't know if it was intentional, but repetitively referring to bj as "ziggy stardust" in the red riding novels completely foreshadowed bj's death.

Season of Defiance was kinda mediocre.

I mean, as a closed story it was FINE. But it felt more like a side quest with the way certain characters just pop up, die, and nothing feels all that tied to the mystery that is "what did anything in Lightfall actually mean"

it annoys me that akane was made into a potential love interest. now there's this love triangle bs going on. it was grating enough with just kana being down bad. but it was still tolerable. episode 11 was probably the worst episode to end on because the love triangle schtick left such a bad taste in my mouth

#tm #like oh i could really spiral out about this #this man has spent 10 years consumed by grief and loss and pain and revenge...he didn't really have a life outside it #he's such a good and caring man but he was also ready to use pretty much anyone and anything to get him to red john; to finish his quest #and then he did; he got red john and he's on the other side of that quest but....now what #that grief and loss and pain don't go away; it's all still there with him and now what does he do with it #without being able to channel it into this quest how does he deal with it #and i don't think he has; even in his two years away i don't think he has (because i do think that's something that they would address #or at least i hope the show hasn't let me down yet)#how does he move forward when so much of him is still stuck in the past #and that's not even touching the lisbon of it all #because for all of those 10 years she's been there with him; she's his friend; his partner; his (maybe only??) confidant #she's maybe the only one he really trusts; who he'll actually listen to; who he'll be honest with #(even if he doesn't do it perfectly or even well a lot of the time....re: the above)#and he knows he has feelings for her; he knows she has feelings for him (because he's not an idiot lfjkda)#he knows she wants more with him and he knows he wants it too but how does he do that?#what does that look like how does he he get what they both want when he still doesn't know how to say what that is?#how does he take that risk with her and lose the one constant he's had through everything else?#and at the same time he knows this isn't fair to her; he doesn't want her putting her life on hold for him romantic or otherwise #(he already learned his lesson there; he already got slapped in the face with that realization in that tiny airplane seat)#so yeah he wants her to go out and have fun with this nice man who has none of his baggage #who is able to tell her he likes her and he wants to get to know her better #meanwhile he (the person who maybe knows her better than anyone) is left sitting alone because he doesn't know how to use his WORDS #his memory palace and all his mind tricks and powers of observation are failing him and he has no idea how to let her know what he wants #he doesn't even really know how to let HIMSELF know and so here he is alone on a couch that's an imitation of the one he had at cbi #with the memory of what the imitation of a relationship with lisbon might be like wrapped around his neck #while the possibility of something real walks out the door #(this is the scary possibility that was on the other end of his 'does not compute' reaction and i hate it but i LOVE it #this show is doing so much so so well)

the post-guanyin wwx+nhs conversation is... i don’t know. i don’t know if it’s just tragic on its own, or if it’s bugging me on a “writing” level. wwx figures it all out so quickly! there’s no “this remains a mystery because jgy died” or “this is a possibility, but so is that”; he just lays it out for nhs, lxc and lwj. so easily. right after they seal the coffin! jgy’s body is still warm, and maybe even in one piece. it makes me feel... idk, frustrated? if it was so easy for wwx, why couldn’t he think of it earlier? why did they warn lxc against talking to jgy so many times, and doubting jgy’s words whenever he got to say something? if only wwx figured it out hours, maybe days later instead of right after -- or perhaps even as the things were happening! but he has the answer all ready, and it just drives it home that it simply... didn’t matter. doesn’t, still, even though lxc is right next to him. it’s like, this one dude did fucked up things, well, he’s dead now. i guess he’s had his reasons? but again, he’s dead, so anyway,
