I might be misremembering but it's crazy that real lestat (that we know of) never refers to claudia as "ours", only ever refers to her as Louis' daughter. But dreamstat (AKA louis' imagined version of lestat) refers to her as 'our daughter'. This version of Lestat is both a taunting presence and also a comforting one and in this moment it's clear he's supposed to be comforting- meaning I think that Louis longed to hear Lestat take paternal ownership of Claudia the same way Lestat longed to hear Louis say I love you. Like a "this is it. We're a family. You're my husband and the father of our daughter"
A lot of notable things happened in this episode obviously but this is the one thing I can comprehend at this very moment

And even though Lestat isn't really there with Louis, Anderson loved filming all their scenes together because it's such a different relationship than what they shot in season 1.
"Something I really liked about their dynamic this season, which is weird because it is not really them, it's Louis' idea of him, and it's something that I wish that we had more of last season, is them just sort of hanging out," Anderson says. "You see them as friends or people that just enjoy each other's company way more in season 2 than you do in season 1, talking about photos or what are we supposed to do about our daughter? These sort of domestic vignettes. I've really loved doing that stuff."

Yeah! The memory of the person that he chose to be with, aside from the vampire bond and the sensuality of their relationship — there was always something else there. They could make each other laugh. It's a real relationship that has layers to it, and it's nice that you kind of get a glimpse of that at least.
Totally. Without all the violence and gore.
[Laughs] Yes, exactly. Sam and I have talked about how nice it would've been to have had a little mini-series where you just see Lestat and Louis just hanging out in New Orleans.
Being happy?
Yeah. And not even necessarily hunting, just like walking, sitting on a bench, chatting, really like the norm.

rewatching episode 6 is so hard because it kills me to see Louis' heavenly beautiful face wrought with pain as he tries to extend loving gestures to someone who is completely undeserving. his attempts to repair what they had and salvage their family are so sincere. meanwhile Lestat continues to lie and fuck about, making no real effort to be a better husband, while Louis is giving as much as he can despite still walking around nursing mortal wounds with some scotch tape he found in a desk drawer.
and upon finding out that essentially nothing had changed, Louis' immediate response was to dissociate. the fact that it was only after resolving to kill his abusive husband that he was able to 1) break out of that dissociative state and 2) allow himself to fully inhabit all of his feelings for Lestat, is agonizing. he's like, with everything that you've done to me. i can only love you with all of myself if i know that one or both of us will be dead.

How dare you tell me my problematic character is problematic. I mean, you’re right, but—
