I’ve been working all week like 7-2 or 8-3 at the Hilton hotel restaurant and I enjoy it but I must’ve been exhausted coz I passed out on my couch at 5pm and woke up at 11pm 💀 lol I have to be awake again tomorrow for my shift at 7-2, my niece has began working with me…shes 16 and her second shift there from a week or 2 ago and she’s nervous again bless. ✨ she’ll be fine I work there all the time lol and she has me, she got nervous coz last breakfast shift (afternoon wasn’t as bad mostly just setting tables for later or polishing cutlery etc) it got very very busy but it’s not always like that so she got flung in the deep end her first shift lol. Anyway I hope I can sleep soon bc I have to leave at 6:15am to get into town for just before 7 to clock in lol it’s now 12:45am 💀

More of a real life ramble than anything else but...

This year has been weird. At the start of the year it did not look like it would be a good one. I’m not going to touch on shit like the Capital Riots, but more in light of the fact I had a goddamn seizure through my medication. That was theorized to be a result of me just being so stressed out over things like the pandemic, and the fact that at that point I’d been out of work since June 2020. Pandemic paranoia to some extent started to drop once both me and my grandma got vaccinated (I qualified pretty early due to the epilepsy; I actually got a weird look when I arrived for my appointment due to how young I am and then mentioned the epilepsy and got an understanding nod). The only good thing was with the Pandemic Unemployment Act for once I qualified for unemployment insurance (since my previous jobs had been contractor positions I didn’t which is BS), since it had been changed so that contractors/temps could qualify. None of my job applications seemed to be working, I was barely getting interviews, and it was just frustrating.

Then one day in March I get an email from an employment agency I’d sent my resume to in the past but never heard from. It was an email to ask me about if I would be interested in a two month temp contract to work at a small bank helping process PPP loans. I said yes, curious and frankly bored if nothing else. To be honest I wasn’t even entirely sure it was legitimate, since that does happen at times. That discussion went well, and I was then set up to do an actual interview with the bank the next morning.

I was given a verbal offer by the bank within five minutes of my interview. Two thirds of my interview was the HR person going over what my specific duties would be. I had the official offer letter in my email the following morning, did all sorts of paperwork, and by Friday of that week I was working at the bank (remotely). Did my one day training, and then started to process loans. 

So initially I was on one team, that dealt directly with applicants, and being supervised by someone from the credit division. It seems however, that I was not supposed to be on that team. To some extent it had been a matter of me getting some degree of experience (I assume), but I’d actually been supposed to be on the team run by the head of risk management that dealt with brokers rather than direct clients. My previous supervisor tried to convince HR not to move me in terms of teams (she was very satisfied with my work), even offering up another team member. HR said ‘no’ and the following week (my third week at the bank), I was now on the brokerage team.

Now for that first week my boss actually wasn’t there (he’d been on vacation), and I was under the supervision of the CFO. Lovely man, did enjoy working with him and I get along well with him. Made a few errors, but I picked up quickly what I was doing wrong and fixed it. Actually lead to the semi-irritating aspect of realizing some of the temps/interns who’d been there months still hadn’t picked up some of that shit...But next week my actual boss came back.

First thing Monday morning was a meeting with him. He’d gotten progress reports on me from both the prior supervisors and HR and had been pleased. I’d demonstrated that I could pick things up quickly and fix errors. I was also willing to reach out if I felt I was missing something or needed help. So I chat with him and make the off handed reference to how I was looking for full time, permanent employment. Didn’t really think much of saying it, more was as a forewarning that if I found something I’d take it and likely be leaving very quickly. He got a very interested look at his face, but at that moment didn’t say anything else. It made me wonder, and there had been a part of me already wondering that if I did good enough job with the loans if they’d keep me on long term. I figured though if that did happen, I wouldn’t be asked anything until basically the end of my two month contract. 

So here’s what I didn’t realize. My boss had recently convince the bank president to let him hire on an assistant/team member. Previously the bank president didn’t really believe him on just how overworked he was, but PPP (where everyone at the bank basically had to do it on top of their regular duties) made the president realize just how bad it was. So boss now has approval, but hadn’t yet been allowed to post the job.

And that’s apparently where I came in.

Again, I’d been getting praise, demonstrated interest in what my boss’s regular job was, and also had a skill set that could easily be transitioned to doing risk management (my background is in libraries/archives/information governance). I also proved over the course of that week I could easily handle the PPP workload and that again, I picked up new skills easily. I got along well with my boss, and did things also like give him heads up when I thought something was going weird.

So Friday of that week comes, and my boss, maybe a half an hour before my work day was over asks me the question I was not expecting. “What would your expected salary be for a full time position?” Again, I’m figuring even if heard something, I’d be hearing it closer to the end of my contract. Not barely a month into it. I spent the weekend figuring out the salary range I should ask for, asking my sister’s partner what he thought I should ask (he works risk management at a much larger bank but still had an idea on what I should ask for). Monday comes, I give the range, and from there my boss spends like the next two weeks practically chasing down the president to set things up.

Did have to do an ‘interview’ for the job with the CFO and my boss, but honestly the interview with my boss was mostly us chatting about random shit, and the meeting with CFO was more just verifying certain things (also he was nice and took the generous look at my previous work history as ‘they may just like doing short term jobs’ [I in fact very much do not]). A few days later I got my verbal job offer, and a few days after that my official letter. Part of why it took a bit was due to the temp contract and there were some things there apparently. But I now had a full time, perm job that gave me a salary I was very happy with and basically all the benefits I wanted (the only one I didn’t get is tuition reimbursement and I know HR is trying to convince the President and bank owner they should do it too; also I admittedly already have a Masters degree, but depending on how much I like this job [which I am] I may try to do either a Masters of Legal Studies or an MBA).

Part of also why was apparently due to PPP. They didn’t exactly want to transition me over to the permanent job until it was closer to over, which they expected to happen by late month. Then, as some of my may know, PPP ran out of funds faster than expected. My boss and I had chatted about it, but both of us were still expecting at least a week longer than what ended up happening. Which then lead to a different issue at that point; HR wasn’t quite ready for me to do all my paperwork stuff, but since they’d done my offer and the like what ended up happening was I was kept on the temp contract, but started my new duties. Also there was apparently a certain ‘we get hit by a fee’ thing there, if they took a temp ‘too soon’.

In a very technically sense there was still PPP stuff going on. They were starting to set up things like the forgiveness program, and dealing with applicants complaining over rejections or that they had applied and gotten nothing since the funds had run out (and there wasn’t much we could do there). However my boss didn’t want me doing that. He wanted me to focus on figuring out how to do my new job, which meant reading up on a bunch of stuff. Which was nice since I didn’t have to deal with applicant complaints, of which there were a lot.

So I started to transition over to doing risk stuff, learning, training and like experimenting with writing policies and procedural stuff (though looking back at that I still don’t really get why he was having me do that but whatever). He started me doing the real reason he’d hired me in June, doing IT due diligence reviews. The reviews on average take me at least a day and a half (there’s generally a lot of information and I have to read all of it and write up a report). First time I did one he assured me ‘don’t worry if you mess up, this is your first time’. Did it, spent a day or so paranoid, and then we had a meeting to discuss it. Apparently I did it perfectly which delighted him since it meant I could start doing it seriously.

And it’s just been nice. I’m working something I find interesting. I have a boss who  has the view of ‘work to live, not live to work’ which he views as an incredibly unhealthy mindset. Meaning if something comes up like say, visiting my parents and I’ve been able to do half days so I can get to their house, including this past Friday (thought that was also partially a result of how messed up public transit due to Ida but that’s a different matter); he actually said I could head out Thursday but since public transit was such a mess it wasn’t viable (my train line was down). Back during PPP the one broker kept annoying him by emailing/calling him at fuck o’clock and not respecting that it was after work hours. My boss also trusts me to attend things like meetings that are with senior management, and I suspect he’s starting to groom me to take over his position (especially based on a comment from last week).

It’s just very weird to realize this year started so shitty, showed no signs it would really get better and yet now all this. And it’s just really nice.

Okay. I started a new job. Yeah. You heard right. The ever so fucking afflicted depressed, intoroverted, frustrated, book crazy, bisexual who cant hold down a job, found a new one. Through a temp agency. I work with ______ _____ ____, at _____ _____, which is just 10 minutes from my house. The job is way better than the piece of shit I put up with for 6 mths. I love the different calls we get. But the mother fucking training at this call centre was mother flipping shit. There are so many 'processes’ you have to remember when helping a 'guest’ with a request that I want to cry. (I hope I keep at the job). Please fucking pray for me.

Did you know I didn’t always used to curse the way I do? Throughout high school, I would only curse when I would get hurt (like for example that time an anvil crushed my toe. Lol. This totally didnt happen. Though, this one time. I cut myself on this chunk of thick glass from a broken lamp at 12 urs old, that I was taking to the dumpster. It sliced my thigh, blood was gushing out I imagine. I started screaming. My mom, uncle, and cousin freaked the fuck out. I obviously lived to tell the tale. Y'all should see the scar.) And then I was influenced by boys (since I only hung out with guys through the last two years of high school) to curse. And now, I can’t seem to stop.

What other facts to share.. I made a friend on Slowly, but work really got me busy, plus I am always freaking tired. Why the hell wouldn’t I try to influence my American self with my Mexican self? (Totally Hispanic in case y'all cohldn’t guess. My mom says I speak Spanish like a white girl. Well, shit… Time to go to Mexico and get ridiculed for being too white and not knowing Spanish or customs) Joking aside, I’m looking forward to teaching myself Spanish and Italian. (Don’t tell the family, but I prefer Italy over Mexico).

Did I mention that today is my 3rd year anniversary with the Nicholas? Totally is. What did we do to celebrate? Time to go to psychologytoday.com to look for weekend available therapists who take my insurance. I hope if I am to become a psychologist, that I’m a tiny better than Tim. He was lovely, I was just unnerved by someone focusing such time on me. But, that is kind of what he is paid for? So….

Oh. Have I mentioned at all to you, Charlie about how I want to start a YouTube channel? I want to read stories I find on the internet. Annnd, I’m pretty excited. I get my mic maybe with next weeks paycheck.

I feel like there is more to add. For anyone you may have lost touch with over the years, Charlie, does the thought of that person and the memories you shared together ever make you cry? I found a CD an old friend left to me for my birthday. And it broke my heart that we aren’t close anymore. I feel like I .. let my true relationships go in my worst state of mind.. And, I miss her so much. It really really hurts. I’m crying just thinking about it.

Also, I’m not sure if I mentioned, there are rare cases where I will laugh so hard at something I found to be funny, that I make others worried or uncomfortable. But the laughter turns to sobbing (sobbing such as my mom dying, or my brother getting hit by a car, or someone killing me) just as severe. I tried asking like crazy, and no one seems to know. That is, until a month ago, a friend from the meetings I go to (please tell me I’m not so vapid that I forgot to tell you I go to Monday meetings with DBSA for my depression) showed me what I have.. which I forgot the name of. But it is a treatable condition. Something to do with sensitivity.

I can’t hear well out of my right ear. I need to see a doctor.

Solace - drabble #02

A/N: Not every day is a good day... (Please make sure to check my Solace scenario and the previous drabble if you haven’t yet. Otherwise, I don’t think this one will make much sense.)

A.

One phone call. That was all it took to end your happiness. You were about to meet your boyfriend at the boxing studio when the agency you worked for called, informing you were going to work for another month in the same office. The one you hated so much.

You tried to fight it every way you could. It didn’t make any sense for you to stay there since everyone was always unsatisfied with your work. But they gave you no option. It was working for them or not working at all.

Jinyoung looked tired, his smile weak when he finally saw you, dropping his face on your neck as you wrapped your arms around his middle. You were not the only one who had bad news from work. And with no mood for working out, you headed to the burger place you both enjoyed, eating junk food became your favorite remedy for frustrating days.

“Everybody is at least twenty years older than me,” you told Jinyoung after he sat with your orders, the same burger you two always ate every time you visited the place. “They treat me as if I don’t know what I’m doing. Always talking behind my back. And the manager… He’s disgusting. You should see how he talks with all the women.”

“Have you talked to the HR?”

“Yes, they told me that any complaint that I might have must be directed to the agency since I’m just a temp. And the agency said that they don’t have anyone to replace me, which is obviously bullshit. I can decide not to work, but then, they don’t have any place to put me right now.”

“Then quit,” Jinyoung said.

“I can’t just quit. The last girl who refused to work in the place she was allocated stayed almost 4 months without a job. I can’t afford to be all that time without work.”

“Then quit the agency. You’ve been working with them for almost a year now. Maybe you should try finding something more stable.”

When you first moved to town, you tried to find a job in the same area you used to work before leaving your past life behind. Maybe working with something you were used to would help you on the transition to a new life. You even got an interview with a big company. But as it went on and you were asked about past experiences, the memories you were so willing to forget started to take over you.

You left the interview shaking, tears rolling down your face. Not long after you found out about the agency you were now working with, and never considered trying to find something else since then.

You haven’t told this to Jinyoung. You weren’t sure if you should.

“I don’t know…” you said vaguely, playing with your food.

“I just really don’t see the point of staying there,” Jinyoung said, fixing his posture, looking a bit annoyed. “You may not hate all the places they send you, but you sure hate this one. You complained about it for a whole month and now you’re going to stay there for another five weeks? Do you think you can handle it?”

“I didn’t know I was annoying you this much,” you said, reaching for your soda.

Jinyoung let out a heavy sigh, “Honey, that’s not what I’m saying. It just bothers me to see you all stressed up for something that is not worth it. You are so bright, you could easily find something better If you tried.” Jinyoung leaned a bit over the table, his fingers putting some strings of your hair behind your ear before caressing your face. “Just think about it, okay?”

You turned side to side on your bed, unable to sleep. Jinyoung asked you to go to his place again, and you refused as gently as you could. And as he walked you home, even if he didn’t say a word, you felt how much he wanted you to ask him to stay. But you didn’t. And now you were regretting it.

You grabbed your phone, decided to call him just like he had you promise you would do every time you had insomnia. Except you never fought with him before. If that could even be called a fight. It was just you, taking things to unnecessary extremes. And being selfish. Jinyoung was also having a bad day and instead of listening to him, you pushed him away.

Sleeping wasn’t something you could just do. And waiting until the morning felt hellish. So, you decided to be selfish again, grabbed a sweater and called for a cab.

You entered his building with no problem, knowing the door codes by heart now. But you didn’t want to just enter his apartment. You considered for a minute if you should knock, go back to your place, stay on the cold corridor until it was time for him to get up for work.

But then, your phone started to buzz, Jinyoung’s name appearing of the scream.

“Tell me I didn’t wake you,” his said, voice sounding croaky on the other side of the line.

“You didn’t. I’m outside.”

“Outside?” you could hear Jinyoung getting up from his bed, he sounding more alert now. “Are you at the park?”

“No,” you let out a breath “I’m outside your door.”

There was a noise inside his apartment, and then the door opened. Jinyoung’s image being illuminated by the corridor’s lights, the rest of the apartment in complete darkness behind him.

“I couldn’t sleep,” you admitted the obvious.

“Me neither,” he said, a weak smile on the corner of his lips.

“I’m quitting my job tomorrow. I mean, I’m leaving the agency.”

“Honey, I didn’t want to push you…”

“You didn’t.” you cut him off “You are right. I shouldn’t stay in a place that doesn’t give a shit about me or how I am treated. I need to at least try to get something better.”

“You will. I’m certain.”

You smiled weakly, stepping closer and grabbing one of Jinyoung’s hand. “I don’t like fighting with you.”

“It wasn’t a fight, we are just having a weird day,” he said, tilting his head to the side. The softness in his eyes showing how much he loved you without needing to say any words. “You should have called me, I would have gone to your place.”

You shook your head quickly. “I wanted to come here.”

The corner of his lips twitched up a little, Jinyoung pulling you to a hug, kissing your forehead before your bodies were glued together.

“So, you are back at walking on the streets wearing your pajamas,” Jinyoung’s voice sounded playful, you chuckling in response. Everything was just fine.

He parted the hug, lifting your face by the chin and giving you a chaste kiss. “Let’s go to bed.”

Jinyoung made you breakfast, as he always liked to do when you stayed over. You barely slept, spending the night talking about him, his day, asking everything you should have before, while your fingers ran through his silky hair. And still, you didn’t feel tired.

“What if I don’t get another job soon?” you asked, resting your head on his arm as he sat by your side. Even if you were certain that leaving the agency was the best to do, you worried about doing so without having any other job prospects. “I think I can be okay for about three months with what I have saved.”

“You will get a job soon,” Jinyoung gave a little squeeze to your tight. “And if you don’t, I can help you.”

You smiled, looking up at him. “You are always taking care of me. I’m getting spoiled.”

“Imagine how much more I could spoil you if we lived together.”

“What?” you lifted your body almost in a jump.

“Don’t freak out,” Jinyoung turned his body to you, holding both of your hands gently over your lap “I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. We already spend most of our time here or on your place… And now you’re quitting your job I don’t see why we shouldn’t do it.”

“Jinyoung…”

“You won’t have to worry about running out of money and focus on finding a new job,” he moved even closer, and you could feel how nervous he was, his thumbs moving quickly on your palms “I know it’s maybe too soon. And you don’t need to answer right now, but…” Jinyoung let his eyes fall to your hands together before his gaze could meet yours again, wrinkles forming on the corner of his face as he opened a smile “I’m so much happier when you are by my side. So please, come live with me.”

I always have a hell of a time finding jobs. The conventional wisdom is that it's easier to find a job if you have a job, so take whatever you can get and keep looking. Unfortunately, the McJobs of the world don't want me. Employers who just need a warm body who can show up sober-ish and demonstrate a basic skill do not call me back. A temp agency got me an interview once -- once -- with someone who needed a phone dispatcher. It went very confusingly until the hiring manager and I compared paperwork and realized that the resume the agency had sent him was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike the resume I had sent them. He then told me, and this is an actual quote, "You're too smart to be here," and that was the end of that. The only time I ever managed to get one of those jobs was by volunteering to work graveyard, which everyone else hates, and by lying on the application and telling them I'd dropped out of college. I've been bidding on pet-sitting on Care.com for months and gotten nothing. They are massively, worthlessly underpriced in my area anyway -- they want to give me $12/hr (minus their cut), when cat-sitting in the Camberville area runs more like $35/day, more for a plurality of cats or if they need any special care. I could probably charge more than that, since I have long experience with cats and even the psycho ones tend to like me, but I have a hard enough time with this already. I'm also signed up with Lessons.com, but they're equally useless. I made an account and promptly abandoned it when I discovered they wanted to charge me up front for submitting quotes. They emailed me asking me why I wasn't using their service and I promptly bitched them out for demanding money for giving me the chance to maybe possibly investigate the opportunity to get hired by some rando I had never met with no references. They comped me a few credits. It did not help, because they keep sending me requests to teach ballet to 8-year-olds 25 miles away, all boxes which I have left unchecked on my profile for a reason. On the other hand, once I finally run into a job that plainly needs me, I can get hired more or less by showing up. I've just been hired on by the Boston branch of the Murder Mystery Co, run by American Immersion Theater, which I think is going to be great. There were three very good signs right off the bat: One was that the earliest audition slot I could even sign up for was 1:30 in the afternoon. I do not function before brunch so I liked them immediately. Two was that they do not schedule you. You indicate availability and are cast for shows accordingly. Whatever job I get needs to have either a perfectly regular schedule that I can predict and work around at all times -- which lets out retail and food service -- or a gig-based schedule that requires people to ask if I can work at any given time -- which means contracting everything. There is a very hard limit on how much work I can do. I can choose to overextend myself for short periods of time, essentially borrowing against future effort, but I also need to know exactly when that will end, and be able to schedule recovery days afterwards that cannot be interrupted. I can't do that if I'm always waiting on a manager who may or may not care much about my health and sanity to hand me a weekly roster. Historically, asking if I can be excused from shit I cannot handle has not worked out very well, so now I just tell people I won't be doing the thing and let them cope accordingly. I have had to quit jobs in a hurry because the stress and exhaustion led me to an actual, medical collapse. My main goal for the foreseeable future is to not have any more breakdowns. Three is that it is an acting job that pays in actual US dollars. Don't underestimate this. I have never found it that difficult to get myself on stage (or on the radio, or in front of a camera) but apparently other people do, and a lot of them derive some sort of visceral emotional validation from being there, so they'll throw themselves at any chance to do it, even if it means wading into a cesspool of abuse and exploitation for free. This murder mystery gig is largely improv. The mysteries are all fair-play, and it's expected that at least some of the guests will solve it correctly, but there's very little script and most of the time the actors are roaming around playing the suspects. The main point is to be entertaining while giving out a few very specific clues. I don't know how other people handle this, but for me, that means the gig is about 20% knowing how the event runs and 80% just showing up and chattering at people while pretending to be someone else. I will never have to think about this if I am not physically at work, and frankly I don't have to think about that much while I'm doing it either. Working a room is energy-intensive, so I will have to limit how many shows I do in a given span of time, but it's not mentally stressful for me. Doubly so if I'm in character and don't have to give two shits about what any of these people might think of me if I run into them in CVS later. I get the feeling that I am an acquired taste. I get surprisingly little work from open auditions. I'm on the list with a couple of general casting services, but almost all of what they put out are 'cattle calls' -- auditions or film extra gigs that want to draw hundreds of people who can act as background scenery for long hours and very little pay. I have learned the hard way that they, and large dance companies, do not want me, I suspect because I cannot make myself look generic if I try. I auditioned for a corps-style modern company downtown once and I was the only person in the room wearing turquoise eyeliner. In a room full of modern dancers, who have a well-earned reputation for weirdness. Also the only woman there with noticeable boobs. I got a lot of compliments from the other hopefuls, but I was clearly not what they were looking for. [There's also a local event staffing service I'm signed up with, which provides promo models and smiling reception staff for premieres and club events and so forth. They, like Lessons, keep sending me notices for things that are a million miles away and not what I indicated interest in, so they're of basically no use.] The lion's share of my paid work comes from people hunting me down and asking. I still sign up and audition if that's how they're casting the production, because they haven't necessarily seen me do that specific thing yet, but I know about the audition because they have asked me to be there. 2019 So Far...

So finding a job in this day in age is hard. I’ve elected to put my resume out to two temp agencies, and I’ve been hooked up with a few gigs here and there that have kept me in the black. But it’s not enough apparently. Not according to my parents. 

Oof, I’m gonna stop myself right there. This post has the potential to be super angsty and come across as whiny and petulant, so I’ll save that rant for another post. 

Anyway, the short of the long is I do still live with my parents and I know they just want me to succeed and be my own person (which I am, I just also happen to be super broke) but there will always be a disconnect between us because they are baby boomers and I am a millennial. It sucks, but that’s the truth. 

MOVING ON. 

Some good things to say: my friend Ariel and I have been working on a comedy skit series which we are writing, filming, producing, and acting in. That’s been taking up a large part of my time since the start of the year, which has been a good motivator to actually do things since recovering from gum surgery (which I’ve recovered from flawlessly, actually). 

I’m with two temp agencies, and while jobs may not be pouring in, I’ve gotten training at some very well known establishments with skills I can take most anywhere in the corporate world. 

It’s kind of like how retail skills are universal, but these skills are typical business universal. 

The Boyfriend came out to Chicago for Valentine’s Day, making it the best Valentine’s Day I’ve had in years (long distance sucks, I don’t recommend it, if your relationship can survive it you can survive anything). 

I signed myself up for an aerial silks class, and it’s kicking my ass. But in a good way. 

And probably the coolest thing: I’ve almost completely paid off my student loan debts. I could, potentially, pay the rest of them off with my incoming tax return. 

And I just might. 

Currently I’m revamping my resume so I can apply to more jobs and maybe get something that’s actually decently professional to me? And this is no shade to my old jobs, I appreciate them very much. But there’s a pressure on me to always be more than I am and keep reaching new heights. As my dad said today, I’m at the age where I should have about four or five different careers. 

No pressure there, dad. 

While I know I want to go more into theatre and dance with my career, the next step is moving out. Moving out will hopefully hopefully hopefully get done after the summer. I’m going back to Stagedoor this summer, and I hope that I can get shit done like I thought I would last year.

I see it a little differently. If someone offers to cook for you, its better than pay. Its like a sign of trust. We talked a little bit about beauty blogging and then she took a selfie of us which she posted to her IG. He taught a makeup class and my friends and I were front row! It was kind of a small room so we were really close. VivaGlamKay was his model, but I didn't know who she was then. And guess what this morning I found I have lost 2 lbs since the first class, I'm so happy about myself. I lift lightest dumbbell and run at lowest speed at the whole class, but as long as it works for me. I wouldn't blame myself.. Beauty lies in people's eyes, in their voices, in their smiles, and of course in a person's words, behaviour and overall personality. All this can make a person "beautiful", or "ugly" for that matter. Physical beauty is something we can all have, by simply making the decision to so and taking steps to make the very most of the bodies (and faces) we are blessed with. It controlled everything in my life. I had to let it go for me and my loved ones. It has been the hardest thing I've ever done. I also do not really have strong feelings either way. As Lauren says, drugstore brands have been duping high end brands for years and it has not been as big of a deal until now. At the same time, in the past, these palettes have been more inspired than straight up copies. This can be done everyday with a very gentle exfoliant, or I'd suggest maybe 3X a week with a stronger one. After that, you can use a serum, then moisturize, and if you are going out for the day, don't forget an SPF!! Starting with at least SPF 30! As far as more affordable products that are pretty good with decent ingredients, Pixi products that you can find at target is something I'd suggest. It has changed a lot of people's skin! A more affordable higher end brand, is Face Reality! This brand is amazing!! And the benzagel is probably drying your skin out more so for those little breakouts, maybe try using something like this pimple patches! They can do wonders and won't dry out your skin! I hope this didn't come off harsh or judgemental! I get super into skin care haha. Anyway, the day was terrible, I still cry thinking about it, but you know what? I got to marry the love of my life. My amazing husband who cares for me and supports me and is compassionate, and generous and fun and. You get the idea. She still actively makes plans and carries them out.You know what? Dad Letter 120119

Dear Dad--

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to December! I got a couple of gifts from you, and I want to thank you for them! It looks like one is a paracord bracelet (which I’m going to keep in my car in case of emergencies) and the other looks like a big scary knife! That’s a really good-looking knife! I am ready to be the heavy in a Steven Segall movie. Thank you thank you! I may keep the knife in my car too, just because I don’t have anything for self defense in the car, other than a viciously-thrown handful of sugar-free Werthers. Being here in Yankeeland, I’m supposed to have an emergency survival kit in my car, in case I go off the road and get stuck in snow. I believe it’s supposed to contain warm clothing, and a snow shovel, and food. (What I really need in that situation is a tow truck, so I’m going to have to be better about taking my phone with me wherever I go. 

Job hunt! I have an interview tomorrow at a temp agency called Bangor Area Staffing Solutions (BASS!) where they will take my references, review the results of four assessment tests I will have taken by then, and hook me up with a job. I’ve taken the first two assessments, which were a typing test and a clerical skills test (math, grammar, punctuation). I have to take another assessment on my abilities with Microsoft Word, a word processor program, and a final assessment to gauge my abilities with Microsoft Excel, which means spreadsheets. I’ve worked with spreadsheets before, but never created one, or did anything really complicated in Excel, so I’m watching tutorials on YouTube. They not only have Excel tutorials, but they have tutorials specifically geared to help you through an Excel assessment as part of a job application, so I’m getting that knowledge packed into the ol’ brain in preparation.

I believe I’ve made a new friend! Found him on a website that specializes in, not to put too fine a point on it, fat gay guys, and their admirers. It’s a bit silly in concept, but it’s also how I met Zach. Now most of the guys who go on this website are trying to find love, or, more likely, trying to get laid. I am the rare exception to this rule. I’m one of the few who use the site because they just want to make a new friend, and specifically NOT do any fornicating. And I got lucky! I found a big friendly fellow named Josh, and he even lives in Old Town (and not Bangor) like me, so he’s quite close. I’ve been chatting with him online. I’ve learned a few things. 

I thought I liked decorating for Christmas. Nope, I’m an amateur with no hopes of ever going pro. Josh is a pro. While I was chatting with him, he sent me a pic of his Christmas tree, which he had decorated. It was gorgeous. It had red and white lights on it, with blue accent lights nearby, just like the tree in my living room! Then he mentioned that he was decorating another tree. This made me stop and think, because how many single people have multiple Christmas trees, much less the stuff to decorate them? Turns out, Josh does! I asked him how many trees he had, and he wasn’t sure (!), but he thinks 7 to 10. He mentioned getting 15 totes full of Christmas shit at a yard sale once. 

So that’s my new friend Josh’s big secret; He has a vicious Christmas addiction. It’s cunning and baffling and powerful, and the first step is admitting that he has a problem. I saw snowshoes in one of the photos, and mentioned that he owned snowshoes. He had to correct me; he doesn’t own snowshoes that he can use to walk in the snow, those are antique snowshoes he borrowed from a friend for purposes of a Christmas display near the entryway in his apartment. They’re decorative holiday snowshoes.

So now I’m fascinated by this guy. You don’t meet too many people in life who are so committed to Christmas. I don’t have many friends who are that committed to anything. And he’s allergic to beef, and nuts, so we’re going to cook his ass a lasagna with pork Italian sausage in it. I think he’s earned a lasagna for his holiday efforts. 

So...exercise. Fucking exercise, bane of my existence. I figured I would get more outdoor time and more long walks once I moved north, and so far I’ve been right. It’s a lot more fun to go walking through an empty park covered with snow when it’s 30 degrees (for me) than it is to walk through a park full of hip, young, pretty people when it’s 100 degrees. Yesterday, before going on our walk, I checked my cell phone to see if it had a built-in fitness app that would track how far we walked, and lo, it did! Once I turned that shit on, my phone became a pedometer, and it turned out we ended up walking 1.46 miles. It was about 22 degrees. We really froze our nuts off, but it was a beautiful trail we were on (I’ll include a pic or two) and I slept better last night than I’ve slept since we moved here. Fucking exercise, hahaha! And my depression isn’t noticeable today...I hate when everybody except me gets how healthy exercise is, and then my own body proves them right. I shall have to walk again today. 

I’ve discovered a new TV show I like, and it’s strange but fascinating: The Great British Bake-Off. Start with ten of the country’s best amateur bakers, have them compete against each other, eliminate the biggest loser, and repeat until they have an ultimate winner. The thing to enjoy about the show is just how British everything is. Everyone is super polite, and so eager to bake something perfect, and disasters happen, but because they’re British, they don’t hurl a coffee mug across the kitchen, they just get kind of quiet while they chastise themselves for their feeble effort. One baker was icing his cake, then turning it slightly, then icing some more, then turning it slightly. Only every time he turned it, he was also shoving it forward just a bit, which he didn’t notice. So he turned it one too many times and gently shoved his whole cake onto the floor. The judges (because, remember, it’s England) came over to help him pick up his cake and encourage him to finish the competition as best he could. I think if it were America, the judges would run up and start yelling at him, and make him do push-ups.

National Diabetes Day... Type 1 for me

The 12th was my 12 year diaversary. The 3 of Jan will be my 32nd bday, April 21st will be my 12 year wedding anniversary and May 27 will have been my first date with my first husband, who I married 2 years later.

I've been diagnosed with 5 autoimmune diseases since the age of 14, 2 of which require needles, 2 of which require a special diet, one that requires a life long rx and one that requres a moderate diet or risk stiffening. I was born with a rare genetic anomoly that ages my muscular and skeletal system faster than it should causing hip, spine and all joint pains as well as osteoarthritis.

My husband has seen everything but the thyroid diagnosis from our beginning. Met me and 2 months later it was thyroid cancer. We lived in our car through my radiation treatments. I puked in a hole in a park with a good parking place to hide and sleep in. We ate off what change we could find in parking lots.

I was then diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just 3 months before finding out I was pregnant with our first child. I walked down the isle 3 months pregnant in a size 4 Davids Bridal dress I got on clearence just after we got hired to work through a temp agency at a dog biscuit packaging factory.

We have been through every up and down a couple could go through. And yet he's still here, I'm still alive. He is building a homeless stationing shelter through donations and for nonprofut. I am subbing in the third highest graded schools in Florida and he is doing his dream job of building and maintaining large industrial sized engines and turbines. It took me 7 years but I got my associates and bachelor's degrees.

I was approved for an insulin pump finally 3 years ago. My A1Cs are right at 6 which is the best in 12 years. My daughter won the 5th grade speech contest in her school. Her 8 year old brother just told me he was so proud of me for teaching finally and my 6 year old just won a citezen ship award for kindness.

Being a type 1 diabetic could ruin me if I let it. I could cry and dream and sulk in it all day but I don't. I could give up and let my food eat me but I don't. I survived 3 pregnancies, thyroid cancer, uterine fibroids and a hysterectomy and breast lumps that were removed.

I survived all that.

I'm still surving.

I will give all and always survive, because I can.

"Some Day It Always Does"… (The start of an Actor's Blog)

The agents are back in their offices on Monday. How is this year going to be different from any other year? A few days will pass…you’ll get submitted for a few parts…the auditions will start to roll in…you’ll go to a few castings… you won’t hear anything about most of them…ho hum… I guess I’ll just keep rolling along. What?! NO! Do you know how lucky you are to even get that audition?! This is a huge opportunity! This doesn’t happen to everyone and YOU get to do this!

So how is it going to be different this time? A good story is made when the writer shows us that this day or this year is going to be far different than any other. When the routine of what’s expected gets thrown for a loop. If you’re the writer, the director, and the actor of your own story how is this Monday going to stand out?

Now let’s go back about 40 years. Legend has it that Madonna takes a cab from LaGuardia with $35 in her pocket and says “Take me to the center of everything!” Now that’s the first line of a great story! We’re already hooked and we have to find out what’s next. Ok we know what happened to her but now let’s take yourself back to the first day you arrived in New York City. What made it “shiny and new” for you (to borrow a familiar line)? When were you an NYC virgin? You got off the bus or the plane and…What happened next? Was it a great story or was it just what everyone expected? How did you get to this point? What went right? When were/are you the happiest? When was it exciting? How can we harness that successful feeling again?

I started acting before the digital age just as the internet was dawning. I came to the city armed with my MFA from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music - CCM, one of the best theatre schools in the country, Right? or so I thought or at least I was cocky enough to think that was all I needed. These were the days when the big corporate agencies only represented stars, and if you were a working actor or just a struggling one your agent probably worked out of a dusty old walk-up office somewhere in the theatre district. They were usually older gals with names like Lucille or Claudia. They’d have a couple rotary phones on their desk and they’d use their long nails to flip through rolodexes and open filing cabinets. The only time you would ever hear from them was if they called you. I would check my answering service like 20 times a day to see if any new opportunities came in. It was so exciting when my voice would pick up immediately before a ring. That meant there was a new message!!! One time it was this dirty old man I had been freelancing with. He left me a message saying he didn’t have any auditions for me and probably wouldn’t for the foreseeable future, but if I wanted I could come by and he would watch me clean his office. Nice. My face dropped.

So obviously I didn’t have an agent for very long. I had a few managers though, nothing too notable, but I did have one called Down Right Talented Management. He liked to be called D.R.T. for short. D.R.T. represented African American rap artists of which I was neither, so in other words I had to submit myself for everything I wanted to do. I used to run down to the news stand after midnight to grab my copy of the Backstage newspaper when it was still tied up in a large bundle on the sidewalk. I’d stay up all night licking envelopes, stapling headshots to resumes so they would all be sent out before the mailman collected them the next morning. I’d buy huge packs of preprinted labels with agents and casting director addresses on them from Drama Book Shop. OMG I wasted so much postage and not to mention paper, since I’m sure most of these envelopes were never even opened. An office assistant at a big agency assured me once that they did actually open every single actor submission…in order to separate the cover letters and resumes from the headshots for the recycling bin.

All this sounds like a shit show, and it wasn’t all hard knocks. It was a nostalgic time. I would never go back but I look at it fondly now. Without the lean times I wouldn’t be where I am. “I’m my kids manager,” and they are totally D.R.T.! More D.R.T. than I ever was and they’re only 10. CCM taught me to act and I “have been” and “can often be” brilliant when I do, but in the old days I didn’t have many opportunities to show how great of an actor I could be. CCM didn’t teach me to audition or really anything about the business of acting. They did teach me to access my real emotions in order to apply it to a character… and (as I’ve said) I’m absolutely amazing at it!!!

When I got off the plane back in 19-blah blah blah…I knew nothing about the business that I was about to start. I had to create opportunities for myself and I wasn’t always motivated or disciplined enough to figure out how to do that. I eventually learned and now I’m making sure my children understand the full scope of the business they’re in. I used to wonder “what was it all for?” now I finally get it and can apply it to the their business and mine. I can help my kids find the opportunities then know how to access their real emotions in order to get the role (or at least have a good audition) and then understand how to be a productive part of a professional setting. Imparting on them what I have learned is so thrilling…to be prepared for success, being accountable, and then rewarding yourself for the little achievements. Not that they always listen. I am just their parent after all. One time when our twins were about 4 years old we went to a casting with them because the commercial wanted the kids to have same-sex parents. My son was so embarrassed. “You are NOT an ACTRESS!! You are a Daddy!!!” He never realized until this moment that the whole reason he is in this business is because we are in this business too. So at 4 they quickly realized that some audition fairy doesn’t just wake you up and sprinkle you with acting opportunities. It’s this “Fairy” right here, and my name is “Daddy Chad!”

That’s what can make this Monday different from any other! Just getting the opportunity is an achievement in itself and should never be discounted. Out of all the actors in this city the casting director wants to meet you! That’s amazing! When I see actors being so “Ho Hum” about another audition (EMAILED to them personally from their agent BTW) I just want to shake them awake! Don't worry I don’t shake my children.

My father-in-law is retiring this year and over the holidays we were trying to help him figure out “what’s next?” What does he like to do…where is he happiest? So I asked myself the same question “When am I the happiest?” Instantly the answer came to me: “When I’m on a set with my kids.” The world could be blowing up around me and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Incidentally guess where I was on 911? I was shooting a commercial, which actually never finished filming, but even on the worst day in American history I knew I was right where I was supposed to be. Especially since I often had a recurring temp job which would place me in the twin towers. I should have known back then THIS WAS A SIGN!!! But of course being the dummy that I was I kept on temping and doing the support jobs until I was totally distracted enough so that the support jobs became real jobs and I totally forgot the whole reason why I moved to New York in the first place!

I’m a dumbass, but there’s good to find in that version of the story too. If I had kept on doing extra work and thankless Shakespeare productions that no one ever saw (don’t worry I never went to your shows either) I’d probably still only have $35 in my pocket saying “take me to the center of everything!” If I hadn’t done those real jobs I may never be financially stable, debt free, or married with children! These aren’t little achievements these are huge and all that really matters. But for some odd reason…when I realize these accomplishments weren’t the result of becoming a famous pop diva, or winning The Academy Award, I sometimes forget to count them as successes. I’m trying not to focus on the things I’ve done wrong, but that is shameful of me.

So how do I get more of that…Not armageddon or millions of records sold, but just more life on a film set? So I can post #setlife on Instagram, because if it’s not on Instagram it never really happened right? How can I make sure that I don’t forget the art this time around? How can we approach it differently and not focus on our failures but embrace the good parts of the story? For 2019 in order to access my happy place I’m going to immerse myself further into this business and keep on writing, reading, and learning. An old friend posted on Facebook that she was going to start acting again. She said it’s time to blow some air through this old horn and see what happens. That’s all we can really do I guess and hope that the prep eventually meets the opportunity.

So you’re slugging it as a temp...

I’ve debated whether it would help anyone if I posted my thoughts on temp workers in office situations in general and in creative fields in particular, and decided, heck, yes, maybe. So here goes.

I’ve been a creative supervisor in corporate field long enough to have gone through managing a number of temps, and while some (two, let’s be real) managed to stay on to become permanent additions to our department, we parted ways with a much greater number of temps who did not work out for various reasons.  

If anyone reading wants to break into a design job, and is roughing it as a freelancer/temp for now, hopefully this will help you up your game.

Things to remember right off the bat:

I. If you’re getting hired as a temp, it probably means one of two things:

1. The company is cheap as hell and doesn’t want to pay for full time workers, and/or 2. It’s a temporary and sudden crunch time, and they need bodies to throw at the crisis.

Both of these things mean that the poor shmuck who will be supervising you is overworked, overstressed, and does not have enough time and resources to train you. It’s not their fault. Most of them would train/hire you in a heartbeat if they had that power. Most of them are happy you’re there, and are dearly invested in you picking up the necessary skills to succeed (because your failure will be on that supervisor’s head).

That means:

II. Attitude is everything. I mean, I’ve had workers who came in with false information about what the job would be (for various reasons) and panicked/resented the fact that they did not know the things we needed from them, but because some of them were open to learning, I had no problem teaching them on the fly, and one such former temp just had their second annual review, if you catch my meaning. It was a good review, too. The other ones used their time with my team as a learning experience and a resume fodder. Still others were gone after a couple of miserable days.

Plus, a good reference from your direct supervisor is a commodity (as I’m learning), and when you’re a temp, your supervisor knows you’re most likely looking around, so most of them are less twitchy about being asked for those.

III. If the supervisor tells you to please ask questions if you don’t understand something - TAKE THEM UP ON IT!  I cannot stress it enough. My teammates and I would much rather be interrupted in our work than have to redo something that was done incorrectly due to assumptions or lack of knowledge - or worse, be confronted with the mistake with 15 minutes to hand-off time. If something does not feel right, say something. If something doesn’t add up - speak up. It won’t make you look incompetent, I swear. No one expects a temp to know all the ins and outs of a particular company.

That brings me to next point:

IV. No one cares if you project-managed elsewhere. I don’t care if you delegated tasks to others before. Here and now, I am your boss and if I say we have to do it a certain way, don’t fucking cowboy it out. If you think there’s a better way, and your supe seems cool, by all means, voice it (in a concise way, please) but don’t salute ok and then do it your way because it’s better in your opinion. You may not know something. There might be reasons that are beyond your scope of knowledge. If your boss seems too busy/assholish, ask your teammates. 

V. Ask your teammates about your supervisor. If they seem reluctant to answer, that should be as clear a signal as if they complained to you for an hour. On the other hand, in my experience, if the boss is cool, people will be pretty happy to tell you. Take them seriously, but watch non-verbal cues, of course, as those are more accurate, usually.

VI. If your goal is to learn as much as possible and move on - GO ALL IN. Ask your teammates questions, watch how they do things, pick up the lingo, volunteer for difficult tasks. And most of all, shut up and listen.  I mean it kindly. If your goal is to learn, then don’t waste your time teaching (or explaining how wonderful you are). You’re there for knowledge, not an ad campaign (unless you’re temping at an ad agency (I’m hilarious, I know, shut up)).

VII. Remember, you’re “just a temp”. I don’t mean it in a derogatory way, but as a reality check. So you think you’re more talented/better worker/whatever than this full-timer over here? Watch and learn what it is that made the company hire that person. You might not want to copy them, but you should at least know what the rules of the game are.  Until you find your stride/voice/strengths, it helps to absorb whatever you can.

VIII. Remember, you’re “just a temp”. This also means that your career is not hinged on this job, so if you keep being treated like crap, pick up the subtle (or not so subtle) cues, and talk to your agency about finding another gig. It’s not worth getting shat on if there are other projects out there, and you won’t know until you ask your rep. 

IX. Make yourself useful. Literally if you’re a temp and you become hella helpful to your supervisor, most of them will fight for you to become full time, if that’s at all a possibility. It doesn’t mean you have to be Gal Friday (or Guy Friday) and be a perfect employee. For example, one of my teammates freaks out every time I split her project with another person, but in a crisis situation she’s the one most likely to stay late and get it done, and I value the shit out of her for that. Another one is kind of slow and I don’t give her any of the most urgent projects, but trust me, if there’s anything that takes finesse and painstaking labor, she’s my go-to person. So, if you act like your boss has to, like, deserve your best effort - nobody cares. No one owes you to “get to know you” or discover you. You might be a fabulous painter, but if you can’t cut a straight line (literally a recent problem we had), I’m sorry, but I can’t use you. Go find a job painting, not working in a fast-paced corporate environment.

X. Take them seriously. This should be a no-brainer, but somehow, it’s something that keeps coming up. I respect your right for self expression, but if the company policy states that you can’t wear graphic t shirts, please fucking listen. If you’re supposed to come in at a certain time, please listen. If you’re told that you’re supposed to check in after a certain task, even though you’ve been doing that task since before you were born and can perform it asleep, drunk, in negative degree weather, on your head - please. please. fucking. listen. 

I just had to let someone go who was very surprised at the news, despite having had several private conversations/warnings regarding following instructions, and it was frustrating for both of us. They thought they were being very productive, because they were doing so much. I thought they were a waste of everyone’s time and resources, because they kept screwing up - not for lack of knowledge, but because oh... they really meant it not to do THAT to a cricut machine... huh. And oh, I guess THAT’s why you save this file a certain way. Like, I don’t got time to deal with that, bye. 

BONUS: If you’re let go, very good chances are, no one will tell you the reason. Your now former supervisor is still overworked and overstressed, It’s an unpleasant conversation no one wants to have, and - since you clearly haven’t made good enough impression - nobody cares about you to give you some tips for the future. 

That’s ok - take the silence as your one huge cue, try to remember all the times things went wrong and what, in retrospect, you should have done differently. Again, you were just a temp, it’s not like you messed up your chances at the Project Runway or American Idol or whatever. 

Just learn. 

It’s not fun, and it’s tough, but hey, you’re the one who wanted a creative job.

Plus it could be that it’s not even you - the agency’s fee might’ve gone up, the big boss has deemed that the crisis has passed (whether it’s true or not), or the budget for a temp has dried up. Most big bosses I’ve dealt with really seem to not consider the fact that temp workers have lives and budgets like the rest of us, and it’s ok to just tell the agency we don’t need them to come in anymore. If your supe is cool, and they have insider knowledge, they WILL warn you if they at all can and they feel like they can trust you not to throw them under the bus.

Use this also to figure out if that is the field you want to be in. One of my best teammates had no clue what they wanted to do after college, temped for my team, and realized they were really into consumer goods (vs. say, web or ad jobs). Another temp knew she wanted to do publishing, worked with us anyway, confirmed it for herself, and left to follow her dream. You just don’t always know right from the start, and it’s ok.

All of the above used to seem very common sense to me, but life disabused me of that notion. And because I realize not everyone is on the same level in life, I hope me sharing these tips will help someone to succeed in this field that increasingly wants more and more experience for entry level positions. Because sometimes temp work is how you get there.

A long overdue update.  A dark cloud has finally disappeared...

In many ways, its hard for me to really describe what my life has been like these past two years and ten months since I got out of school.  What I can say is that it has truly been a time of struggle, humility, and discovery of who I truly want to be.

Apologies for this novel of a post, but there’s a lot of things to cover.

First off, let’s begin with the great storm cloud that has hung over my head, a storm cloud in the form of a number: $11,000.  That’s how much I owed for the last semester I was in school, a semester I was unable to cover as I had no means of being able to take out a loan, plus some fees to the university and the state collections agency.  Thus, I was stuck wondering how I was going to pay off this seemingly insurmountable amount of money.  As January of 2015 had rolled around, I received the letter saying that the university had sent the bill over to the state for collections.  At first, I said nothing as I felt as though it was a problem that I had to deal with on my own.  I felt I had some time before I really needed to be concerned about it.

Fast forward to March of 2015.  I receive another letter, this time saying they are going to start collecting on my debt.  Thus I had a decision to make, when to start paying this debt.  At the time, I was working a part-time job and making just barely over minimum wage.  I did however, have a few thousand dollars saved away in my savings account and so I decided that at the very least, I could buy myself some time with that.  When it came time to set up a payment agreement, I decided I wanted to try and pay off this debt as soon as I possibly could, which meant I would try to do it within a year’s time (10-11 months to be exact).  So the initial agreement ended up being $1,000/month taken from my savings account.  In that time, I made absolutely no effort to really change the state of my income (find a new job basically as the one I was in was not going to do me any good at all).  I was left hoping for some kind of miracle to happen where money would just magically fall at my feet and all my problems would be solved because I just didn’t want to deal with it anymore.

Memorial Day weekend, 2015.  I haven’t told anyone about this dream that I had but I figure now is as good a time as any to share it seeing as it involved this dark cloud that had been looming over me...

The dream involved my Grandpa, who had passed away very unexpectedly almost exactly 11 years prior.  In the dream, I was at my grandparents’ house, it seemed like just another normal visit.  We were all sitting in the kitchen just making small talk.  Not really discussing any recent events until we started talking about my financial crisis.  My grandpa was in the kitchen, sitting on a bar stool next to the kitchen counter.  As soon as I realized he was there, I immediately started to question why he was there because I knew at the time he had been gone for 11 years.  Everyone else in the room then started to justify how he was there by saying it was some kind of new medical breakthrough and I wasn’t buying any of it.  I then proceeded to talk about how I was pretty much just hoping for a miracle at that point and that there was absolutely no feasible way for me to be able to pay off over $8,000.  I started approaching him as I was saying this, and he didn’t say a word the whole time.  He just kept giving me this confused look as though to say, “That’s it?  You’re just going to give up?”  I then went back to questioning why he was there and said something along the lines of, “You know he’s been gone for 11 years now, don’t you remember?”  The last thing I saw before I woke up was seeing that confused look on his face one more time.  I immediately woke up completely in tears as I couldn’t believe what I had just seen.  Looking back at it now, I wonder if it really was a sign telling me, “Why am I giving up?”

Cut to June 2015.  My savings nearly completely dry and now in a desperate situation.  My mother decided to step in and worked out a new payment agreement, this time something a bit more manageable, $500/month.  The time had come where I needed to find a new job.  Thus, I decided to go into temp work.  Over the rest of the summer, with the exception of a few weeks in between temp jobs, I ended up working 60 hour work weeks just to be able to cover the bills.  August rolled around and I found myself looking around for a new job once again as the 60 hour work weeks were really starting to take a toll on me.

I ended up getting a full-time job working as a hotel housekeeper right at the end of August.  Going into it, I looked into it as an opportunity to see if the hotel business was an avenue I could look into.  Over the course of nearly a year, I found myself working in a position that I felt was nothing more than a nice paycheck as I was unable to finish all of my rooms on time.  Thus, my more comfortable 40 hour work week was more like 50.  As time grew closer and closer to August 2016, I was just ready to pay off the bill completely as I had so much saved away so I could quit and move on to a better job because I was already so angry and frustrated with everything that was going on there.  Unfortunately, it wouldn’t work out that way as an incident had occurred with one of my inspectors that ultimately led to me completely walking out absolutely furious and quit on the spot.  It was then that I was just ready to move out be on my own for a while as I was sick of feeling like the butt end of a joke (I was 25 and still living in my mother’s basement).

And so after two months of bouncing back and forth between job hunting and beating myself up over quitting my job, I finally found a job in a new town in late September 2016.  What followed was a place to live and I moved in October.  Over the last few months I’m glad to be able to say I’m working a full-time job where I feel like my work is actually appreciated.  Still needing to pay off what was left of my debt, these past few months have been a bit of a struggle, but I’ve managed to make due with a little help from my family.

Now with my $11,000 cloud finally gone, I can finally bring a close to what has been a very dramatic and stressful chapter of my life.  I don’t entirely know what’s next, but I know I’m ready for whatever lies ahead.

For those of you who managed to read this entire post, I hope I have cleared up a lot of what’s been going on these past 2 years and 10 months.  I apologize to anyone and everyone whom I may have pushed away during this time as I hope you will understand.

Our real estate agent told us to purchase and insurance policy from Old Republic to cover anything that could be wrong with the house since it was built in the 80's. An inspector looked at the house prior to our purchase and didn't notice anything with the property. Once the house was occupied by our renter, he noticed that the lights would shut off and stay off for a few hours. Old republic sent an electrician over and he told us that the prior owner had replaced a new breaker on top of a broken buster. He reported back to old republic and they stated that the insurance didn't cover anything that was not installed correctly. We were precise to inform our agent of the policy we needed for the house. We were not sure what work the house had done prior to our purchase so that is why we purchased the insurance. The policy we had was Old Republic Home Warranty Plan. That is what our agent advised us to get. Now, what can we legally do to help cover our out of the pocket expense of over a grand. Is there a policy that anyone would recommend for a rental house. I really dont get it, car insurance on a 2000 plate 1litre yaris is over 10,000 - YES 10K! I do live in manchester, which is the most costly post code to get insured in but 10k is just a joke for a 18year old. What I don't understand though is that he's 18, the same age as me, and I thought you werent able to do short term insurance as a new driver? Although I think he somehow takes it under his parents policy? I'v no idea how this works if someone could shine a light on it?
