author interview
Thank you for the tags @gneebee & @im-immortal
Happy New Year everyone!
1. how many works do you have on AO3?
6
2. what's your total AO3 word count?
43,408
3. what fandoms do you write for?
The Walking Dead - Beth Greene/Daryl Dixon
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
Keep Me
A Stolen Moment
La Dame Blanche
I'll Be Home For Christmas
Something
5. do you respond to comments?
Yes, and I try my best to respond to every comment I get. I massively appreciate all the support and feedback I get so I try my best to acknowledge that.
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Something was definitely the angstiest thing I've written so far, although I do have a second part for La Dame Blanche in my notes that would probably beat it...
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I Want Your Midnights probably πŸ˜‰
8. do you get hate on fics?
No, thankfully I haven't had any hate directed my way since I started posting earlier this year but I know it happens.
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
I want Your Midnights was my first attempt at writing smut and I gotta say I'm so proud of how it turned out. Writing smut always made me really nervous but once I got started it was actually so much fun and it's defintely something I plan to do again.
10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?
No, and I don't have any plans to.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
No.
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, although it sounds like it coulld be fun!
14. what's your all-time favourite ship?
Beth & Daryl - I am literally never getting over them.
15. what's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have a lot of ideas jotted down, snippets of fic ideas or scenes rather than stuff in my WIPs. I do intend to get around to them all eventually. I did have a whole Beth Lives idea that I came up with a while ago about her going back to the farm but I think it's more likely that the idea is going to get incorporated into Keep Me at some point rather than it growing into it's own story.
16. what are your writing strengths?
Oh wow, I don't know. I'm not very good at critquing myself. Hopefully keeping them as much in character as I can?
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Right now I feel like action sequences (I'm trying to write some action sequences for the latest chapter of Keep Me) - creating the right vibe for them and building the suspense. I also think sometimes I'm in danger of repeating the same words a lot when describing something. Having the confidence to trust myself once I've written something out as well, I do look to @im-immortal for a lot of reassurance and I massive appreciate her taking the time to read the stuff I send to her 😊
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I did a bit of this in La Dame Blanche but I don't think I'd ever be confident enough to use more than a few words at a time. Google translate is notroious for messing stuff up and I wouldn't want to do it if I wasn't confident that I was getting it right.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
Alias on FF.net - I post one very short fic there once and then Something was originally posted over there back in 2014 but I didn't write anything from then until earlier on this year.
20. favourite fic you've written?
Keep Me has my heart right now because it's the biggest thing I've ever attempted, but writing I Want Your Midnights was so much fun and really made me feel more confident as a writer.
A lot of you have been tagged already so sorry if I'm tagging you again but anyone who wants to join in please do! @burningupasun @boltthrutheheart @sasusc @fairybellworld

20 Questions for fic writers
@five-and-dimes, @signiorbenedickofpadua, AND @cuubism all tagged me in this, and when three of your favourite writers ask you to do a thing, you do it. SO! Here goes.
How many works do you have on Ao3?
A nice round 25 😊
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
540, 538. I should update my portfolio.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Sandman, right now. Technically I still write for Doctor Who and maybe Lucifer but frankly it's all I can do to manage one fic right now, so.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
They're mostly Lucifer fics, I'm surprised. I thought AWFA would have passed them by now. The Devil You Know (1955), 100 Ways (1696), What Dreams May Come (1626), White Days (1533) and rounding it out with Doctor Who, Fool Me Once (1474). I'm kinda proud of that last one.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Usually, yes. I try to.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't really write angsty endings tbh. Not my jam. Probably a toss up between the ending of The World is Unraveling, because it ends on a cliffhanger, and maybe Out of the Cold, because it ends ambiguously, but nothing I'd characterize as angsty.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I mean, the rest are all definitely happy, enough that I have trouble picking just one. The first one I thought of, though, is To Hell and Back, because it ends with a wedding.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Thankfully not. The worst I get are vague comments about "I wish you hadn't written it like this" which are hurtful, but I ignore.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
The ace kind. In that, I've been told that my smut reads like it was written by an ace person (it was a compliment).
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I write crossovers very rarely, because I find they tend to stray crackier than I intend. However, I am pretty proud of the Doctor Who/Lucifer crossover I wrote based on the Impossible Planet episode. (Mistaken Identity)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so. I've had people write their own version of my fic? Which was flattering, but also made me feel kind of odd.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I'm aware of. That would be really cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not really, no, unless bouncing ideas off a discord counts.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
I don't have one. I get REALLY into one ship in the moment, and then I move on to the next, which doesn't mean that I love the previous ships any less, or that I love the current ship more, it's just what happens to be bouncing around my brain at any given time.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Can I answer 'all of them'? Truthfully I think Locum Tenens has to take that spot, I started posting it with the notion that getting traction on it would make me want to continue, but the idea of writing what I have planned for it is SUCH a daunting prospect. I never say never but that fic will be a LOT of work.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Character. I'm good at keeping voice consistent, at getting into a character's head and really understanding how and why they would react a certain way. I'm also really good at making connections, at drawing on things from canon to use in a new light.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I am SLOW. I only put something down if it's what I really want to say, and I edit as I go, so my pace usually hovers around the hundreds of words per hour. I also think I'm bad at writing emotional scenes, but in this I compare myself to others, and I know that's a false dichotomy, because obviously my writing isn't going to affect me emotionally the same as someone else's. I just feel like I consistently fall short of the ideal in my head, but I guess that's common to all writers for the most part.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Awkward, generally. As a linguist, I couldn't live with myself if I didn't get everything absolutely perfect, and it's hard for me to justify including whole lines in a different language in a fic written in English. That's not to say I've never done it, but most of the time if I want to use other languages I'll just pepper in a few words here and there.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I'm going to draw a distinction here. The first fandom I wrote for, where I was on tumblr and engaged in actual fandom stuff, was Doctor Who. My first published fic on Ao3 was for Dragon Age (Skyhold Slept), and my first fic I ever wrote (published nowhere, I was twelve) was for LotR, but I did not, and still don't, consider myself a part of their respective fandoms. Maybe that's a silly distinction, but I consider immersing myself in and engaging with other fans and content an integral part of how I write now, when it hasn't been, historically.
20. Favourite fic you've written?
That's like asking me to choose between my children. I'm going to cop out and say every fic is my favourite while I'm writing it, so it's Another Word For Ache. Sorry I don't have a more interesting answer to round this off.
Aaaaand I feel like a lot of people have been tagged, so how about @themirokai, @delta-pavonis, @thewollfgang, @moorishflower, @eidetictelekinetic and anyone else who wants to play!

top 5 fics you wrote 😊
ooh thank you! at first i was like oh no self-promo is embarrassing but actually it was fun to think through!
i made a bulleted list of five instead of fully ranking them because they're all rather different:
The Downton Chronicle (Downton Abbey) - this AU set during the Wars of the Roses is a story I loved SO much that there are only 2 chapters posted– honestly I don't think my writing skills at the time (almost a decade ago, good lord) were quite up to it. but it's a whole world in my head and i dream of properly writing it one day.
and i will love thee still, my dear (Downton Abbey) - one thing I loved about Mary/Matthew was that they were such dramatic lil nerds, especially Mary comparing herself to various tragic literary heroines. here I use one of my own favorite books, and Sybil, to get them over themselves much sooner
you're gonna be alright (Ted Lasso) - this is my biggest fic project ever and it's not even done yet (hopefully this summer) but i am proud of it. mum!Rebecca is very special to me as are the children i've written for her here
the way you keep the world at bay for me (Ted Lasso) - T/R + Waitress + Ted learning you can put milk and sugar in tea !
here i stand in the light of day (Ted Lasso) - Rebecca's reunion with Nora, written pre-s2 but I think it holds up okay! But I miss Nora :(

2022 End of the Year Recap
rules: post the top 5 works you're most proud of that you released in 2022 (not necessarily your most popular), your top 4 current WIPs that you're excited to release in the new year, your top 3 biggest improvements in your writing over the past year, your top 2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year, and your number 1 favorite line you've written this year!
thank you for tagging me lovelies @amethystwritesbts πŸ’• and @e-cm πŸ’—
Top five works I’m most proud of
The Woman with the Black Cat on Her Shoulder: I needed to write it and I am so sad/happy/emotional so many readers resonated with it πŸ’—
Handshakes of a Lifetime Chapter 9: I am proud I got through that chapter dealing with so many characters at the same time πŸ˜… like once I realized...oh no there are actually fifteen different characters and even more relationships it felt like a clown car in my head, but somehow I made it through! And it was a good chapter, at least I like to think so 😊
Christmas with a Vampire: no one else seems to like it but I LOVE this story, okay! I love vampire Tae and Jin, I love the way the world is laid out in my head, I love cyber punk stories AND vampire stories. I love the moodtm (I was so obviously depressed when I wrote it lol cries), I love how in the future everyone* ahem human* is vegetarian πŸ˜‹ I love it all! Perhaps because I can see a bigger story and it's living rent free in my head lol but I'm proud I got it out and finally finished my x-mas series, very proud I finished something for once lol cries again
Day Dream: omg making sure all the threads of the story were 'woven' together correctly and made sense to readers and not just me lol, also the story itself referenced a lot of shit...life and dreams and some of my fav fics as well πŸ˜ƒ it was really fun to write and I'm proud how it all came together in a beautiful tapestry...of insanity πŸ˜‚
BTS as Kisses: I love poetry and I should write more of it...and I'm planning to! Proud it was well received. I live for the "cute" comments πŸ˜†
Top four WIPS I’m excited for
Bon Voyage, I just love that world πŸ₯Ί and I'm excited to make readers a n g r y πŸ˜…πŸ˜… (don't blame me tho! blame Tae!)
The Snap, I wanted to read a marvel-bts crossover foreverrrr, so just gonna have to write myself one instead. I'm excited 😝
Run Run Run, because I always have fun writing it and I need some laughter in my life....cries πŸ™ƒ
And HOAL, yes it's still happening, I have not forgotten about it! I appreciate your comments still, like @illnevertrustmyselfagain yes to everything you said, you "get" it πŸ₯Ί, @myspi2010 too, I ask myself the same things when writing lol, my readers are the smartest and I love it πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜
Top three improvements in my writing
I feel like I have gotten better in some aspects and worse in others lol. Pacing and endings are the things I want to improve on. It was fun messing with both in my story Day Dream, even added an alternate endingΒ πŸ˜‰
As I was rereading HOAL and BV:ITS I noticed my sentences are more punchy and concise, now my flow portrays that better even if I get more descriptive. I can't decide if that makes a better reading experience or not, but sometimes I do want to go back and rewrite the first chapters of those stories, so perhaps that is considered improvement? lol idk!
THIS IS HARD. um I definitely can say I never could have written stories like The Woman with the Black Cat on Her Shoulder and You Asked for Help, He Asked Your Name when I first started, there's so much to those stories that is even hard for me to explain properly, my readers do a better job at it for me πŸ˜… I think their reviews/comments make the stories so much better, so thank you dear readers for helping me to improve myself πŸ’•
Two resolutions for my writing/this blog for β€˜23
Somehow get onto one of those author collaboration event story things...wanted to be a part of one since I first opened this blog πŸ₯Ί...even though I am too scared to ask and am not part of any community, I still believe somehow it will happen πŸ˜… lol
find a way to write all the stories I want and not die of exhaustion in the process cries...writing gods please come visit me in 2023 πŸ™πŸ½
Favorite line I’ve written this year
This was so hard to choose! I think probably this line from my Fairy AU You Asked for Help, He Asked Your Name because it feels like energy is transferring into my bones every time I read it, "You gripped it tighter, it was real, it was your freedom in the palm of your hand. It made you cry, made you angry, made you happy,Β made you stand up." But also there is a really good line in The Flower Bridge that came in close second...should I share it? Is that cheating? πŸ˜… think readers should find it for themselves maybe? πŸ˜‹
Tagging: @daydreamer-writing @justanotherstarlightmonger @trifoliumrex @jimilter @aris-ink @park-jimin-isnt-real @jiminiesfavouritecolourisblue @bangtangalicious @smasmashie and whoever hasn't done it yet, 2022 is not yet over!
