THE 12TH HOUSE 🤝 MALADAPTIVE DAYDREAMING

Hello, this is Magnolia once again :)

By definition (though it is has not been recognized as a formal mental disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders at this time) Maladaptive daydreaming is when intense daydreams interfere with daily life and responsibilities due to being so immersed into them. The act of daydreaming is not necessarily a negative activity but when done in excess then it becomes detrimental.

Daydreaming and fantasizing fall under the 12th house since it rules the subconscious, imagination, and the space where boundaries between reality and the unseen blur. It is essentially an activity that activates the 12th house. It also represents the astral plane, the realm we exist in before entering the material world through the 1st house, our physical body.

When you’re in the astral realm, the cares of the physical world vanish, as well as the physical body, since it’s just a vessel we use to interact with the physical world on a face-to-face basis. In the astral realm, you have an astral body, which differs greatly from the physical body. It doesn’t need food or water to sustain itself like the physical body does. It’s interesting that when someone falls into excessive daydreaming, they often forget to eat, drink, and neglect the physical body’s needs because they become too focused on occupying the astral body.

Time in the astral plane doesn’t function the same way as it does in the physical world. A single day in the spirit realm could feel like a thousand years in the physical world. When you engage in deep daydreaming or fantasizing, you tap into this altered perception of time, which is why it often feels like time speeds up or disappears entirely. You’re no longer anchored to the physical world’s structure of time and space, which can make excessive daydreaming feel all-consuming and difficult to break out of. Though the 12th house is one of escape, it is also imprisonment.

The 12th house represents the dissolution of boundaries, it’s easy to get lost in its influence, whether through dreams, fantasies, or other forms of escapism. While this can be a source of comfort and relief as a coping mechanism, it can also lead to detachment from reality if there’s no balance. That’s why grounding activities are important, especially if you find yourself constantly drifting into 12th house energy.

Come back to earth, come back to reality. Don’t neglect the physical body cause in turn you are neglecting the 1st house cause the 1st house is the physical vessel which we use to interact with this world. We’re not meant to neglect it. We must use it, there’s a purpose for us in these bodies of ours.

♡ Are you interested in technology or body modification? Whether you said yes or no, you have no choice in listening to the endless conversations you’ll find that Mallek springs on you. You aren’t sure at times if he’s talking to himself, but when he turns to you to see if you’re following him, you know for certain that he’s waiting for a response. While you might not always understand what he’s talking about, you try your best to be a good listener. You ask questions - and even if he doesn’t outwardly express it, there’s a certain happiness that comes from people showing an interest in your hobbies. It’s something you can see in his eyes. When you notice it, it's hard to forget it. There's no way to explain how someone's eyes can become soft, but they can. Of course, Mallek doesn't always dominate your conversations. If you haven't been speaking much about your interests, he'll seek you out to ask you about them. He's constantly checking in with you, and if you need to remember something, he's your walking, talking memory card. Even if no words are shared between you both, the silence that follows is filled with a contentness to simply exist in the same space. After all, it's a miracle you're even beside him.

♡ One day you’ll find that he has printed out and sourced thousands of pages worth of Alternian education. It’s what he would have been given when he was younger, and it’s what all trolls are taught. Most of it is instructional material given to the Jade's that raise the offspring to begin with, but a lot of it sheds light on their society as a whole. Half of it seems like propaganda. Mallek turns his nose up at that sort of stuff, but after you spent so much time telling him about your world and how your species worked, he wanted to return the favour. It wasn't just for your entertainment, however. Anything that he gives you will help you survive in Alternia. That means your education also involves a lot of films, confusing diagrams of quadrants you still haven't gotten your head around, and some videos you wish you'd rather not seen. Even by listening to Mallek himself, there was plenty of valuable knowledge for you to pick up about Alternian society in his musings.

♡ There’s times where Mallek will savour your affection in the sweetest ways. When you’re helping him out with something, or you’re busy, he won’t hesitate to show you his appreciation by wrapping his arms around your waist and holding you close to him. Since he’s there he might as well remind you how much you mean to him. It’s not like he’s great at it, but he tries. He'll call you sweet names in his tongue that click and rumble in his throat. A soft kiss to your shoulder says more. The way he shares your space tells you that he enjoys your company. Hip to hip, he’ll wrap his hand around your shoulder if he has one to spare. When he does, he’ll play with the outline of your ear, or he will run the tip of his claws against your skin in delicate strokes. With the two of you together in his hive, the outside world melts away. The dim lights of computer screens flicker as you curl up beside him and rest your head in his lap. Sometimes, you’ll even wake up with him hung over you, fast asleep himself, your body his pillow. Never expect big romantic gestures from Mallek though. It's not his style. Outside, you don’t display much affection towards each other, but you’re quick to pick up on the fact that public displays of affection are much more frowned upon than you originally thought. Despite Mallek’s laid back composure, you have noticed that when you’re outside with him, he is always ready to direct you somewhere else at the slightest sign of trouble. You supposed with your looks and blood colour, you should care more about what you were doing too.

♡ Homemade meals are more of a delicacy, and your food is more of an afterthought rather than anything else. Once you’ve put a packaged meal in the microwave, it only takes five minutes for you to be able to shovel the goods into your mouth mindlessly. It's mobile, so you can eat while you do other things at the same time. Being low effort is a bonus too. They’re suited for long nights listening to music and playing games. After all, it's not the healthiest, but you're not sure what is healthy on Alternia. Mallek recommends ones you might like often though, constantly trying to accommodate for your different tastes the best he can. When something is made from scratch, however, you’re in charge. It helps to have him explain what different things are, or how you’re meant to cut them up - if they’re even edible to begin with.

♡ On the odd occasion, you will find Mallek wearing your clothes. He’ll shrug it off by saying he picked up the first thing he saw, but you’ll catch him later in the night with one of your shirts one. He'll have his face tucked under it, with the hem sat along the bridge of his nose. Of course, when you get the chance you’ll do just the same, and slowly you begin to have a blended wardrobe. Buying clothes become a joint venture of finding things you'll both like. You've bought things that you thought would look cute on him knowing he'll end up in it eventually. Likewise, Mallek will approach you with a new jumper or pair of jeans. He will hold it out with narrowed eyes like you've tried them on in his mind and he's judging the end result. Then with a satisfied huff, he'll hand them over to you to put on. You'll look good, he reassures you.

♡ Mallek will always be better at eyeliner than you, but that's okay. He can teach you how to do the sharpest wings you've ever seen in your life. Pout at him enough, and he might even do it for you. It’s a sure way to sneak in some physical contact as he holds your cheek to steady your face. There's a lot of concentration in his expression, and it won't even occur to him how close you are until it's too late. He's looked you in the eyes. Suddenly, he's way too close. A healthy cerulean blush dyes his expression, but he's trying not to let himself get distracted. With knit eyebrows, he'll try his best to finish your makeup before he leans in for a kiss. Grooming has become a shared routine for you, one that you didn't expect. It's a simple trade. You shave the sides of his head, and he'll do your eyeliner.

♡ The future is something Mallek wants to avoid and considers more often than he wants to admit. He's terrified of what it means for both of you. It's not just him anymore. Before you came along, he had his own problems to deal with. Yet the inevitable future crept closer to him night by night. Then you appeared. He can't help but see your smiling face erased from existence, so he plans on ways to save you both. At the very least, you have to stay together. He does want to see anymore pain or suffering. He doesn't want to be cause of it. He just wants everything to be alright. Night by night he's counting down the seconds until you're ripped apart from each other, and you don't even know it yet.

I think one of the most interesting parts of deltarune's ch34 are the tree rooms like can we talk about the tree rooms for a second?? Ive been dying to talk about the tree rooms

WARNING IS VERY LONG AND PRETTY MUCH JUST MY UNHINGED RAMBLES ABT IT

SO!! what do we know about the egg rooms?? they are constantly referred as rooms in between rooms or in chapter 3 nowhere, as in that you need a ticket to nowhere dialogue, which the bibliox gives to you (fooooor some reason) we know that you or at least kris cannot go to these rooms with other people

as its not a good idea to do so according to the bibliox, they are rooms between the reality of the game that break away from it, anyway chapter one the room seems like nothing else but a reference to eastereggs right its simple you go in between rooms you get the tree room the man gives you the egg not much to see here i think, in chapter 2 we learn that the man the man is fond of you, or i think he is more fond of kris

as when you input yes after this dialogue text box he gives you the egg, and thats it for chapter two i think [(one little side tangent though is that in snowgrave/ the weird route the room between rooms is found in the same place where you find spamton and he give you the thorn ring to begin the snowgrave, which could mean nothing, also it seems that you cannot get the egg while on a weirdroute, me and my sibling tried to but we werent able to get the egg room, however we could get the egg in chapters 3 and 4 idk what that is about)]

NOW CHAPTER THREE OOOH CHAPTER THREE EGG ROOM, this one is the most elaborate egg room to get too and also the one with most stuff in it, the reason why i personally think this is is bc chapter three focuses a lot on nostalgia and kris' childhood and how simple things used to be right!

[i also think this is why this egg room has this gameboy aesthetic calling back to a simpler time in videogames] this chapter is also a lot about how things change and how scary that is

this is also how we get that the egg rooms and the egg man are very likely tied to kris's childhood,[ also the little ruddins we se here got lost in the couch you know an inbetween space] b4 i move to the tree man in this room though i wanna talk a bit more about some of the dialogue the little ruddins have, in particular this little ruddin here that says

talking about the place you see when you look through the binoculars

that is all grayscale which could mean nothing but you know what else is heavily tied to gray scale?? the goners and who are they tied to?? thats RIGHT DR PHD DW GASTER, which again could mean nothing but lets put a pin in that for a second, then there are these pieces of dialogue

even if people have contact with the man they forget about him shortly after, OKAY now to the actual egg man, to get to him we have to enter this room

i only highlight it bc it has the symbol of the delta rune which is interesting (and could mean nothing) anyway here we meet the egg man and he says

then he asks if you will forget him too, if you say no then he will go on asking

which lines up with the little ruddins dialogue and the bibliox, then he asks again if you will forget him if you say no then he says this

and now this might be a stretch but i feel like this parallels one of goner kid's dialogues also i just think the whole exisitence of the forgotten man seems to parallel what goner kid says

and i know goner kid is usually connected to dess and her disappearance and while i see it, i think it fits more with the forgotten man since with dess, stuff pretty clearly doesnt go on as normal with her disappearance it has had and has a pretty big impact on her family and friends, and the story of the game, while with the forgotten man stuff just goes on, is like he has never existed, he doesnt really affect the story of the game or even the world of the game directly, you have to go out of your way to break out of the boundaries of this reality to be able to interact with him, now does this mean that i think the forgotten man is goner kid? not really but i think their words pretty clearly parallel him.

anyway next piece of dialogue i want to highlight would be

TO BE COMPLETELY REAL WITH U i dont know what this could mean exactly other than the man is mayb not originally from this reality or has access to other realities constantly and mayb thats what he got them mixed up?? idk idk its just interesting to me

then he says that this part of reality? this dimension? nowhere?? is the only place left where he can speak, i dont know what this could mean, i think you could make a connection to gaster with this one but i am pretty sure the man is not gaster,

then he tells you that the island will soon disapear and that you might not be able to meet again, he then asks you if you wanted to meet again after this he tells you his schedule, which im not that sure what the schedule could mean, he says that he goes to sell doughnuts on thursdays, on friday he tosses the leftovers, fridays he lets it (the doughnuts?) cool on the windowsill on sunday he harvests wheat, then he says

NOW i dont know what any of this could mean, i dont think you could make a connection to any utdr character we know, the only character that comes to mind that sells doughnuts would be muffet but i dont think she could be the egg man, and then that last part maybe its a clue on how to find chapter 4's egg?? but you dont hold your breath nor you count backwards, nor you go to the left, maybe chapter 5's egg, or mayb its a reference on how you break out of the game to get here? with doing croackonx being an attack that you blow on and then you go left to break out of the game?? i dont knoooowwww

ANYWAY THEN HE GIVES YOU THE EGG, he says that you may loose it, and says that you have to put it somewhere, and says other stuff BUT the next piece of dialogue i would like to highlight is this one

that place?? what place does he mean, the next time we meet him is in a hospital, maybe he just means nowhere??, then he says

maybe he means deltarune, and look at the way its spelled, usually characters will spell deltarune like ''delta rune'' the only other character i can remember that spells deltarune like that would be

gaster, and also how this dialogue seems to parallel gaster's speech at the end of chapter 4

WHICH COULD MEAN NOTHING, but maybe the egg man means the game deltarune thats where he will meet you or kris?? im pretty sure he speaks more to kris rather than the player but the lines blur sometimes and i cant tell for sure, anyway i think what this could mean is that the egg man, is connected to gaster in some way, maybe he is a goner? or maybe the egg man is just another entity like gaster, but i personally like to lean more on him being a goner,

anyways after the man says that, he disappears and when kris leaves the island it also disappears as the come out of it, now i have a lot on interpretations on what this could mean, since this world, this island is very connected to kris' childhood with the little ruddins they made, and how they scold them for growing up and as we established b4 the egg man seems to be very much connected to their childhood,[side tangent now i know that the egg man is pretty commonly associated with something traumatic that might have happened to kris in the past, but i dont think the man himself is meant to represent that trauma idk how to explain it, like yes the situation of something behind the tree seems to represent their trauma but not really the man?? idk idk] maybe the fact that island disappears when they leave could mean like moving away from that childhood, or not im not entirely sure, maybe its a memory they lost [connecting back to the childhood trauma] maybe the man himself is the memory?? or some1 trying to help kris remember? or maybe move on?? i am not very sure... THIS GOT LONG ANYWAYS PT 1 OUT OF 2 IG

Hello. When I read the tragedy about Shay, I could not believe that this was someone else's problem. Because right now I want to be gone. And not only from fandom. I would like to talk to you if you would like. I feel as if I am the only one in the world right now. I have been a Radiohusk shipper for about two years now, posting pictures on Twitter and even interacting with some of them. It has been a fruitful environment and time for me. It was a peaceful time, as Doc said. I have OCD and often feel unstable. Radiohusk and my shipmates were the ones who calmed the waves until now. Since the publication of this edition, those waves have remained rough. My favorite ship is constantly denounced, and even my not-so-great drawings get cruel quote retweets. I hated drawing. Now I don't even pick up a brush. Also, a number of shippers who were my friends have already left the fandom. It is like an island in the sea. My OCD has been tormenting me for a long time, but what torments me the most is that the trend doesn't seem to end. Is there any safer space anywhere? I think what seems to have worked for most of those we have spoken to is to form their own little "niche" of like-minded people. Value quality over quantity, so to speak. Find those who feel the same as you (and trust me, they exist), create your own little community, may it be on Twitter, Discord, etc. Draw together, write together, share ideas and build up from there.

What seems to have helped another member is to make their own iteration of some of the characters, with a mix-and-match of Ms. Medrano's old versions, which they liked better. Again, it's fiction, so the limit truly only is the sky.

However, please do not make Shay's mistake to try and find the solution to your personal struggles within internet communities. Reach out to your friends and family, talk to them. Find like-minded people to connect with.

HA HA HA I HAVE TOO MANY (Litteraly writeing a post/essay on him right now in drafts after getting a comment on a recent post) but here are the basics

Really really bad at taking care of himself. mans is constantly forgetting what he needs in order to live

Copper sparrow spoke through a speaker on his chest rather than mouth

*refer to storming sacrifices world building* He has the longest comas/takes the longest time to switch between hybrids

Scott found and read/watched his studies while Sparrow was bust being copper

Skulk sparrow wears extra jewelry and noise makers because if hes still enough he becomes invisible to himself and that's not a fun feeling. to feel like you don't actually exist. he also stomps around a lot for this same reason. basically Skulk sparrow is extra loud.

Hates being underground. this is mainly for angst purposes. but also because he was a pilot who i feel would love being up and in the sky and underground is like the furthest you can be from that.

Before he studied hybrids he studied birds!

He loses more of his memory with each life change. but if he had to pick the thing he wants to remember the most it would be his friends and interactions with others.

Skulk sparrow hates the texture of wool. Copper sparrow hates being to close to sources of heat and dirt. The human sparrow doesn't like small spaces.

Responds to the name Owen but never understands where the nickname comes from. hes never used it before landing here yet he knows its his.

why does minato get so much slander on this app by kakashi and obito fans?

Interesting question. I may not necessarily be hanging in the same circles of tumblr as you, so I may be wrong, but I haven’t seen a lot of Minato slander, especially from Kakashi fans. His fan base generally tends to be rather chill. However, if push comes to shove, Kakashi fans are passionate and will defend him through thick and thin. But I don’t see them typically intentionally tearing down or attacking another character, especially his sensei. Or maybe I just tend to only see and follow the “nicer ones”🤷🏽‍♀️.

Because most of what I do and focus on is Kakashi-centric, I don’t see a lot of Obito content, unless it’s related to Kakashi in some way with a little Madara thrown in from time to time, so I can’t really say much regarding that space, but even what I do see is more Obito-centric from his fans. I really don’t see the Obito fans that I do interact with going out of the way to bash Minato, either.

That all being said, I don’t want to invalidate you, as I know not all fans are angels - people are human. tumblr is huge and every light side also has a dark side, so I believe there may indeed be some fans out there who do slander Minato, as I’ve definitely seen some fans talk negatively about Kakashi and I’m sure some do the same to Obito. So, it would be unrealistic to not picture the same for Minato.

You don’t mention in what area or ways he’s being slandered, so I can only conjecture as to why and can’t really say why people do what they do, though as I’ve never seen the point in bringing another character down just to make your favorite look better.

Personally, as I can only speak for myself, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Minato and think he’s an awesome character. I think people forget how young he was. Kakashi became a jonin at 9 or 12 - verdict’s still out on that one - which means Minato was his and Obito’s sensei at 19 or 22. And in a war. He lost not one, but two of his students because he was so in-demand that he could only be in one place at a time. The amount of guilt he must have felt is immeasurable. And he kept going.

I will say, if anything, I have seen Kakashi and Obito fans erroneously, in my opinion, call Minato a “bad sensei.” I think for the Kakashi fans I’ve seen do that, they’re reflexively being defensive about Kakashi being labeled as a bad sensei for 20 years, like “Kakashi’s not a bad sensei! Minato was the worst, his students died!” I will say I have seen that. But again, it’s erroneous to say that for both. Due to their talents and demand, both were exceptional and exceptionally in demand. Minato in war and Kakashi because he was spread way too thin and was expected to be a sensei and simultaneously a one man team financing the village with solo S-rank missions.

As for Obito, again, I don’t really have an exorbitant amount of interaction with his fanbase. I’ve seen a lot of power scaling between Minato and Obito on other apps, which is not my thing because it can cause arguments, has potential to bring out the worst in people- people are passionate about what they like, and is inherently biased towards a person’s favorite character. But I don’t see a lot of that on here. If anything, even with that, it’s usually the other way around with Minato being praised for his abilities and Kakashi being “slandered” as the weakest thing that has ever existed compared to everyone else. I have seen fans defend Kakashi in that regard, but even then, they’re not insulting Minato.

So, all that to say, I’m not seeing a ton of slander, but do believe it exists. As a Kakashi fan, I think it may be that his fans constantly feel as if they have to defend him and some may get carried away and degrade Minato in the process 🤷🏽‍♀️? But can’t see the chilled out Kakashi-stans just hating on Minato for no reason. And for Obito fans, again, I’m not a huge Obito fan - I don’t hate him by any means; just not a major fan - so, don’t know much about his fanbase.

Chapter 7: Unchanged

You rest a bit when you get to your room, but you don’t sleep. Having a private room was a commodity on the space-efficient submarine, and you appreciated the gesture for what it was. The room itself was small, but there was a porthole that let you see the ocean as the ship traveled, a small and comfortable bed, a little storage room under it, a couple shelves and a flat surface for writing. There was even a small lamp that hung from the ceiling to provide light for reading when the main lights needed to be off.

Laying on the bed you watch the dark ocean shift idly by, barely taking note of the occasional fish or shoal that passes by. Dozing a little you try to relax, at least physically. Every time your mind wanders to the past, you force yourself to think of the crew.

The Heart Pirates didn’t exist centuries ago. So you pull their voices and their interactions into your mind. It’s difficult, there’s similarities that trigger older memories, mostly because from your perspective the other memories aren’t that old.

Eventually you fall back on a mantra.

“Every time I close my eyes, the ceiling changes, and the people change.” You murmur into the quiet room. “But the last few times I have closed my eyes, it has been the same. The world has changed, and yet it seems, for me it has stabilized.”

A bittersweet smile plays at your lips. Lami would be happy for you. Banchina would probably scold you for holding onto the past, but you could see her smile just as well.

Resting was beginning to lose its effectiveness, and before your mind could wander off again you left your room. Making your way easily through the mostly identical halls, you reached the mess hall and walked into the back to see Bepo beginning to prep for dinner.

“I hope I am-hem – that I’m not too late to help?” You smile as Bepo turns to you.

“Not at all!” He answers, indicating the board and knife. “If you want to start prepping vegetables, I’ll get the rest.”

“Of course.”

You get to work breaking down the vegetables, following Bepo’s guidance. The mink talked while he worked, but it was mostly what he needed to do, or what he needed you to do, and what he was going to do. It was like he was keeping himself on task by talking everything out. It was extra useful for you, because it was easier to determine what he’d need from you since he was constantly listing off steps and next steps.

According to Shachi it was something he did all the time when it came to chores. Fighting and working in the operating theater, however, and Bepo was almost completely silent, aside from the occasional apology.

“We’re making two dishes tonight?” You ask after a moment, quietly proud of yourself for sounding informal.

“Yes, tonight’s meal is pasta and red sauce with garlic bread. The captain isn’t fond of it so I’m making him some rice balls instead.” Bepo explains, never turning his attention away from his work. “Will you deliver them?”

“I bet he’s gonna forget to come eat.” Bepo says, and then promptly apologizes. “He gets focused on a plan or an experiment and if we don’t force him, he can go days without eating or sleeping properly.”

“That is… surprisingly unwise for someone so smart.” You say, grinning deviously at Bepo. “I shall be fierce in my delivery.”

Bepo’s face shifts oddly, and he gets a hand over his mouth before he laughs. It’s a short laugh and he looks away, apologizing again. “Sorry – pfft, hahaha!” He falls into a small fit of laughter, apologizing between outbursts for a few moments before he manages to get himself back under control.

It’s so adorable you don’t even feel bad that he’s probably laughing at you.

“Fierce.” He finally manages to say. “I’m sorry.”

You smile, taking the rice balls. “It is quite alright.” You stop and close your eyes in a grimace. “It’s… all good?”

Bepo tilts his head. “Um?”

“Law has stated- said, that I need to speak informally, for safety’s sake.” You explain. “Mister Bep-er… Bepo I haven’t ever spoken casually before now. I am aware, I mean, I know how to, and I’ve had friends who do, and all of the crew does, but it is proving difficult.”

Your face scrunches up a little in continued frustration. “Hearing and knowing translate poorly to speaking, it seems.”

“Hmm… I can let everyone know. We can… help?” His head tilts a little. “Like if you revert without correcting yourself.”

“Thank you, I think that would be most ideal. It will aid me, ah, it’ll help.”

“Best.” Bepo offers. “It would be best.”

“It would be—Oh! Oh, it’s better to say ‘best’ than ‘most ideal’?” You question and Bepo nods with a smile. “Very well then, thank you. I shall deliver this to the Captain.”

Bepo gives a very quiet sigh as you leave, realizing that this is going to be a lot of work.

Law’s cabin is located fairly centrally in the ship. It gives him access to the bridge, mess, and operating rooms within nearly equal distance. Considering it was easily the largest cabin on the ship, you imagine it had been designed with that kind of perk in mind.

Knocking on the door you wait for a moment in silence before knocking again with a little more force. Your brow crinkle, but you’re certain you can hear movement on the other side of the door. You give it another moment before you open the door and let yourself in.

Law is hunched over the desk, books open and papers set around. It looked a bit chaotic, but there was method to the madness of it, and you realize he’s trying to figure out what he can about your tears.

“My apologies for the intrusion,” you begin to say as he glances over at you before looking back down at what he was working on.

“One moment.” He looks around from book to book and makes a few notes on the paper in front of him before he sets the pen down. He straightens up, stretching a bit and letting his back crack, before looking back toward you. “Dinner time already?”

“Indeed.” You reply, handing over the plate of rice balls, not wanting to risk setting them on something important. “After you eat, I could stay and assist you.”

“Mm, can you phrase that differently?” He prompts, taking the plate and beginning to eat.

You consider for a second. “When you’re done eating, I can give you…. Ah, what was the phrase? Give you a hand job?”

Law chokes on his food and sets the plate down on the desk. Even with all the times you’d caught him off guard before now you’d never seen him so flustered as this.

“I said it incorrectly.” You state apologetically, pouring him a glass of water and handing it over. He’s still trying to clear the food caught in his throat, but he’s nodding as he takes the offered glass. “Sorry.”

He puts his hand up as he drinks, coughing a couple more times before he’s finally cleared things out. There’s a moment of stillness between the two of you as he considers his next words, and without looking at you he speaks.

“It’s just ‘give you a hand’.” He says finally, his face is red from the choking spell, but his ears look red too. “When you’re offering to help someone, you don’t need the qualifier of ‘job’ at the end.”

“Is a hand job something else then?” You question innocently. “Perhaps assault?”

Law lets a breath out slowly; eyes closed, shaking his head. “It’s intimate in nature. Just… don’t go around offering people hand jobs.” He says finally, returning to his meal with a scowl.

“Very well.” You smile a little, staying by the desk, trying not to think too much about how you had accidentally propositioned the captain.

Law regards you while he eats one of the rice balls and finally asks. “Is there something else?”

“Oh, I was waiting for you to finish eating so I could be of assistance.” You answer, gesturing to the research laid out on his desk. “Should I come back later?”

Law considers things for a moment. “No, you can stay. Read over what I have while I eat, and we’ll go from there.”

You nod, stepping around the desk and looking over the notes and books that were laid out. There were history books, referencing the void century and the theories around what may have happened. A book about the Ope Ope No Mi specifically. There were more notes in the margins in, you assumed, Law’s handwriting than there was original text. Whole sections were crossed out in some places just from what little you skimmed.

Connecting the books to the notes you realize that half his query was about the variances and safety of the tears you could create, and the other half was on the Devil fruit’s possible impacts on you.

“You… appear to be looking for a… cure?” You question tentatively.

“… yeah.” He replies quietly, finishing the last of his meal.

You're quiet for long moments, but Law doesn’t say anything. He hardly moves as you look over the notes again. You purse your lips, fighting back the emotion welling up inside you. Control is difficult after so long without any emotions, but you manage.

“I wouldn’t have to count my tears?” Your question is quiet, and you’re blinking rapidly trying to beat back the tears threatening to fall.

“You wouldn’t have to hold them in either.” He admits, a tone of frustration in his voice.

The dam breaks at the statement and you step back from the desk as a few tears escape you along with a stifled laugh. A breath of air with a note behind it, nothing more - relief captured in a single beat. Heavy tears slip past your chin and thunk onto the floor with the crinkle of breaking glass.

“Sorry, sorry the gold ones always break.” You explain automatically, wiping your face and trying to calm yourself. “The glass is so thin.”

“Please don’t apologize.” Law says softly, carefully walking over to you and handing you a couple tissues before he crouches down. “Gold comes from… relief?”

“Historical data and personal experience compel me to admit it comes from several, generally positive, emotional states. Though, you are correct that relief is one.” You answer, face warm. “I would prefer to not match all my emotions to tears, doctor.”

“I won’t tell anyone else. Part of it is wanting to keep my crew safe, but part of it is specifically wanting to keep you safe.” He explains, standing back up. “People know you have a unique gift, but I don’t think the exact details of your ability have survived all this time. Would you rather someone experiment on you for the details?”

“… I would rather someone believe the heart was lost at sea.” You admit, eyes more on the floor than Law.

“Are your tears all that change?” He asks quietly, but the implication and concern are obvious.

Your fingers flex, and you chew on your bottom lip. Your hesitation alone is enough of an answer, and you know if you tell him no now, he’ll know better. You had long since decided to trust him implicitly, and with literally not one else alive to have your back, it seemed imprudent to leave him in the dark about anything.

If Law betrayed you, it wouldn’t matter to what degree. You had nowhere else to go.

“If… if I bleed, it… but no one knows. I found out one day by chance, and I didn’t even tell my friends.” You admit.

Law puts a hand on your shoulder leaning down and catching your gaze. The golden-yellow eyes hold your gaze, and he squeezes your shoulder gently. “We’re going to do everything we can to protect you, but people… The Warlords and the World Government will experiment, especially if you don’t give them something.”

“… People believed if I was injured or…” you clear your throat meaningfully and look away. “That my tears wouldn’t… wouldn’t contain anything. All I do know is that be it tears or blood, it needs to be surrounded by air. Soaked into cloth, or dried upon skin, it won’t… change.”

“Use that to your advantage. If anyone presses, then say of course it’s untested. Who would risk it?” He offers.

You nod in agreement as his room fills the small office and he shifts the broken glass and gold into a small pile on his desk.

“I may begin to forget to count my tears, if you continue to gather them for me like that.” You muse, a small smile on your face.

Law reaches out for you, the back of his finger brushing across your cheek. “That wouldn’t be so -.”

A knock at the door causes you both to nearly leap out of your skins.

“Captain!” Shachi’s voice calls from the other side of the door. “Is Bell in there with you?”

Something in the question compels you to take a step back from Law. You can feel your heart trying to pound in your chest, but you were doing your best to keep it from showing on your face. The captain regards you for a moment before answering Shachi.

“Yeah.”

The door opens and Shachi smiles when he sees you. “Sorry, Bepo said he sent you off to bring the Captain his meal before you had gotten to eat.” He holds up a bowl and a couple pieces of bread wrapped in a napkin. “When you didn’t come back, I got sent to make sure you ate.”

You can feel Law’s eyes on you, but you keep your focus on Shachi with a smile. “Thank you, and please thank Bepo for looking out for me like that.” You say as you take the offered bowl and bread. “I can set this on the plate from earlier, and I’ll bring them back to the mess hall later.”

“Oh, that was almost informal.” Shachi beams. “Good job, Bell.”

Law sets his plate down on an open spot on the desk, and you set your meal on it. “Did you ask the crew for help?”

“Mm, Bepo specifically, but he promised to pass the word.” You answer, seating yourself. “Hearing the crew has not – hasn’t effected my affect, it seems.”

Shachi makes a face, but you only catch a split second of it before he smiles. “Well, enjoy your meal. Bye Bell, later Cap’n.” He says cheerfully before leaving the office.

“Effected your affect?” Law prompts, a grin pulling at the corners of his mouth. “You couldn’t be more formal if you tried.”

“I mostly certainly could.” You say with a grin. “Would you like me to speak as though you were the king?”

“No.” He answers quickly and flatly, and you smile as you begin to eat.

I am watching the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, for the 10th time. And, yes, I know it's controversial. I know almost everyone in this fandom who has something to say about it hates it. And yes, I know its faults. I know that it portrays Paul Prenter as a Disney Villain. (Sure he was an arsehole, but god-damn, he wasn't the devil-incarnate.) I know it straight-washes Freddie and makes Mary seem like the love of his life (which she wasn't) and it makes Freddie seem like a moody little lonely brat (which he wasn't) but GOD-DAMN it brought a lot of us to this fandom, and the actors did a good job. And I still watch it and enjoy it, even knowing all these things.

A lot of non-Queen fanatics always tell me they loved the movie and they ask me if I loved it, and I am the type of person who can't say "NO! I hated it because--" (and rattle off 75 reasons that don't mean shit to an average person). I'm just more of a people person than that. I genuinely have friends and seek to get along with other people, regardless of differences. Sure, I can offer my opinion about how Freddie was actually gay and not bisexual and how he truly loved Jim Hutton more than Mary Austin, but again, I would prefer to interact with living-humans than be stuck on some dead man's past that I don't actually even know.

In other words, I don't believe Freddie would have been the type to sit and try and drill his opinion into other people's heads. I think he's the type who would want to hear about their views and to talk with them and get to know them rather than fight all evening. Don't you all love to connect with humans rather than constantly pit yourself against them? Isn't it nicer to connect and find common ground in this short life than to isolate yourself over petty differences forever? Of course, I'm not talking about people who actively negate your existence as a person or make you feel uncomfortable... but I'm talking about people who differ from you in opinion.

That being said, it's not so horrible to feel uncomfortable once in a while. We have gotten so accustomed to "safe spaces" that we don't realise that it's not always horrible to feel discomfort sometimes. We have conflated uncomfortable with unsafe, which is not the case. If someone tells me they disagree with me, that they believe Mary Austin was the love of Freddie Mercury's life, I am not inherently unsafe. Sure, I might disagree, and I can tell them as much, but that doesn't make that person a fucking animal. People spend so much time online that they forget how to actually interact with people who disagree with them.

Throwing around hideous terminology towards people that disagree with you on very petty, relatively meaningless terms is just another symptom of a society that has lost its ability to debate healthfully with each other. Not everyone is the fucking enemy. Get offline for a bit. Talk with people. Have conversations with human beings that do not involve a keyboard. Meet people who are from different walks of life, different age groups, etc. Of course, don't be unsafe. You don't need racists or legitimate homophobics in your circle, but conversely, not everyone who disagrees with you is Hitler.

The Internet can be great, but it can also lead people to believe that their circles are the only ones that exist.

People love Freddie Mercury without knowing his entire life story, and they feel the same pull towards his music even if they believe he was bisexual or that he loved Mary best of all. I don't agree with them, but they're not the fucking devil.

A non-serious attempt at comedy/list about what your favourite incarnation of the Master says about you:

Roger Delgado: They just like more dialogue and richer themes in your storyline, preferring character interaction and chemistry rather than spectacle. They also make sure their outfits are neat, stylish and elegant. Always colour co-ordinated. Usually quite calm and collected until you say Terror of the Autons is just a remake of Spearhead From Space.

Peter Pratt: Basically a Fourth Doctor fan who refuses to admit there are flaws with The Deadly Assassin or a fan of horror films. More than likely grew up in the seventies. Definitely looks into their KFC bucket and sees lots of little Masters staring back at them.

Geoffrey Beevers: Basically the same as the Pratt fan, although this one refuses to admit there are flaws in the Fourth Doctor's era as a whole. If you tell them Tom Baker stayed on for too long, prepare to have your intestines made into a scarf. Usually forgets about 90% of the plot of Logopolis. Almost certainly a child of the 70s, hence why they see this Master in the mirror each morning.

Anthony Ainley: Likes to just have fun, no matter how corny or wierd the stories are. Will happily just sit and watch the Master basically trolling the Doctor with minor inconveniences, waiting for the inevitable moment when that character hovering in the background with a not-quite-as-clearly-defined backstory pulls off a mask and wig to reveal a goatee. Is somehow able to enjoy Time Flight. Do not ask them their opinion on the TV Movie.

Eric Roberts: A legend amongst humans. Saw the campy, over-the-top dressing gown/robe, the bad cgi snakes, the wierd terminator references and thought "yes, this is clearly the best one." Constantly annoys purist classic series fans simply by existing and does not care. Knows the TV Movie is mid and does not care. Knows that the Eye of Harmony was originally on Gallifrey and does not care. Has definitely said "I always... dress for the occasion" and does not care that no-one gets the reference.

Derek Jacobi: Sold their soul to Big Finish for the War Master range. Religiously watches Utopia to see that reveal again, and wishes Chantho had been fully fried before shooting the Master. Now all they can do is offer sacrifices to Nicholas Briggs and sit in a darkened room, staring at the Big Finish website.

John Simm: Probably has fan art saved to their phone, and has almost certainly read Ten/Master fanfiction at some point. Will defend Last of the Time Lords and The End of Time Part 1 with their dying breath (and for good reason, those episodes slap and those two slightly dodgy scenes don't ruin them, Moffat did worse retcons, fight me). Cried when their Master showed up in The Doctor Falls and usually has good relations with Missy fans because of it. Thinks Sacha Dhawan is a lazy rip-off. Can usually be found comforting the Jacobi fan after their War Master box set has been delayed.

Michelle Gomez: Basically the same as the Simm fan, only this one defends the Moffat era and their fanfiction search history is a bit more varied. Thinks Death in Heaven was a good episode, and that The Doctor Falls should have been the last Master episode. Hates Chibnall for bulldozing all their character development and rendering this incarnation's redemption slightly pointless. Usually slightly more forward-thinking than some other fans and great with their friends. Has formed an unlikely alliance with Delgado fans... somehow.

Sacha Dhawan: Took one look at the most quirked up Master and decided that was the one. Thinks John Simm was OK, but lacked the "evil four-year-old on a sugar rush" energy of this one. Usually bitter rivals with Missy fans, as everyone started re-evaluating the Moffat era instead of watching S12, and will go strangely quiet whenever the Timeless Child is mentioned, praying that someone will say that it should have been the Master and thus giving them a "get out of jail" card. Was absolutely overjoyed when people enjoyed Power of the Doctor. Convinced that the Chibnall Era will receive a massive reappraisal in the future, despite the fact that the odds of that happening are about the same as the Terry Nation estate accepting that the Daleks are overused.

Alex Maqueen: Sold everything to Big Finish. Doesn't even watch the show. Can't watch the show. Who needs the show when you've just spent all your month's wages on that box set? It's not like you need to eat or anything. The most likely individual to end up in a padded cell when someone doesn't know what Dark Eyes was.

Gina McKee: Missy fans, but with small social circles and a heavy dose of Weezer.

Online Safety Relevant to the Current State of the Internet

On twitter I made a tweet about how online safety lessons in school can be very out of touch but that the advice of people who are familiar with the current internet shouldn't be disregarded. So here's my informal collection of online safety tips

Sources: unrestricted internet access since elementary school (not recommended), being a formerly involuntarily home bound person for several years that amassed way too much online experience

This could possibly hold upsetting reminders to people who had bad experiences online including mentions of grooming and emotional manipulation so please proceed with caution!

Information Sharing

Make an online pseudonym for public profiles and websites.

Don’t feel like you have to list everything about you for the world to see.

Sometimes it’s not a question of “can this information be used to locate and identify me irl?”, but simply “do I want this information publicly available and linked to my online persona?”

Unlike offline, being online leaves a constant trail of who you were accessible at all times. People are constantly growing and changing. Try to limit the information you share so you can ditch that trail and start over if need be.

Sharing information with people you make friends with and trust is a judgement call on your part, but always be on the safe side and be protective of your information.

Start as cautious as possible with online safety. Any risks or judgement calls can come later when you are 1. aware of the risks, 2. ready to address them if they occur, and 3. have gathered plenty of information instead of doing something blindly and hoping for the best.

Do not share your triggers publicly, they can very easily be used against you. Instead use websites with a large amount of filtering options to curate your online experience. If you are going to share them, only do it privately with people you trust.

Importance of Boundaries

It doesn’t matter how mature you are, don’t enter age limited spaces you don’t qualify for. It’s disrespectful to the boundaries of the people who made that space. Boundaries like this exist for the comfort of both sides involved.

Just because you can “handle it” doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Desensitization is not something to brag about.

Venting or making r18 posts as a minor on a public account is VERY dangerous. Intense emotional vulnerability is something manipulators will look for as a way to get to you. The same with sexual jokes to develop your comfort talking about those topics casually and eventually escalating the situation. If you are going to talk about such things please keep that in private conversations with people you trust in your age group.

Note the difference between public and private online space. Tweeting something on a public account is not the same as having a conversation in the cafeteria with your friends.

If an adult tries talking to you about r18, run the other way. Doesn’t matter how cool you are, it says something weird about THEM if they’re willing to talk to a minor about that stuff.

If someone( like 3+ years, honestly depends on how old you are) older than you wouldn't be comfortable saying what they're saying to you in front of other people (like a teacher or guardian), that's suspicious as hell. Run in the other direction.

The younger you are, the more age gaps matter. There's a bigger difference in development between a 13 year old and a 17 year old than there is between a 20 year old and a 24 year old. It helps to try to contextualize it with real people instead of numbers. Instead of thinking "oh just 4 years? that's not that weird" consider "oh. that would be like a freshman (13/14) dating a senior (17/18). yikes."

Be just as wary of people your own age talking about things that make you uncomfortable. Just like irl, sometimes you’ll meet people your age that are hurtful.

Friends complain to each other and talk about their issues, that alone is fine. But when people are doing it without permission, draw a line. When people are making it feel like you’re responsible for maintaining their mental health, you need to draw a line. When it starts to effect your mental health, PLEASE DRAW A LINE! I know it feels like your responsibility sometimes, but it’s not. You cannot be there for others if you’re not taking care of yourself first and foremost.

Don’t be afraid to block people. Even for petty reasons. It’s good to block people. Don’t force yourself to see stuff you don’t want to see.

Being Constantly Online

The 24 hour news cycle is not a good thing to follow 24/7. Taking social responsibility is a good thing, but your brain is NOT built to worry about every issue in the world at once. One strategy I use for staying sane is I try to only check the news once a day, and if something needs more attention to set aside an amount of time I’m going to focus on it before I need to take time to step back.

Touch grass. Not literally, unless you can in which case I highly suggest it, sometimes it’s just good to lay in a field. What I mean is you need to dedicate a good portion of your time to being offline (sleep does not count). What your offline time looks like is going to differ depending on your level of ability, but even if you are house bound it’s important to build some hobbies that don’t rely on the internet. Talking to people offline is also a good goal if possible, even just to your housemates.

Social etiquette greatly differs online and offline and sometimes the reminder that were all just Some People gets lost behind the numbers and the fabricated personas. Keep in mind the difference in how information is shared without forgetting that the fact we are all people remains the same.

Be generous with your etiquette. You will avoid a lot of stress if you conduct yourself with the same politeness you would have in an offline interaction. Master the art of "minding your own business" for your own sake.

Arguments and Competition

As soon as you can, you need to internalize the fact that leaving an argument is not losing.

It is inevitable you will be exposed to many people who disagree with you. Some people only want to argue to rile you up. Sometimes that’s not their intention, but it’s what they’re doing. You do not have to remain in conversation with people, especially if they’re not interested in actually coming to an understanding. Even if they are interested, sometimes they just suck!! Leave!! You can leave!!

On that note, sometimes you are going to get valid criticism and it’s going to hurt. That is part of learning. If someone says you messed up and did something hurtful, take a second to step back from your defensiveness and consider: intent ≠ effect. Apologize, repair what you can, and move forward with the ability to do better in the future. You’re going to mess up every once in awhile, it’s inevitable.

To summarize the past two points: don't waste your time on unnecessary hostility but don't close yourself into an echo chamber either. Debates should be about learning.

Sometimes people are not going to like you. This happens offline too but people tend to be a lot more blunt online. Sometimes people dislike you for no reason or for really petty reasons. That’s not your problem, move on.

Don’t actively seek out people you don’t like or who don’t like you to argue with. Whether or not your side is the “right side” doesn’t matter, it’s going to cause you so much unnecessary stress. Feel free to keep posting your opinions on your own profile but don’t seek out unnecessary conflict.

This is a different type of competition than previously mentioned, but be aware of the danger of comparing yourself to other people. Especially if you’re a creative or student, DO NOT GET SWEPT UP IN THE GRIND CULTURE. It’s more subtle in some places than others, but anytime you see the notion that you should be working yourself to the bone be VERY critical. Also be critical of any online cultures (such as gaming and art communities) that brag about unhealthy habits or act like it’s ~part of the culture~ (ex: all nighters, not taking breaks, getting hurt. Any activity that neglects health to work toward a goal).

Not just grind culture, any community of subculture that shares anti recovery sentiments is a huge red flag. Even if they're joking, it's not worth the risk of internalizing those statements.

Everyone’s social media presence is to some degree doctored because it’s a purposefully selected collection of what they allow you to see. It’s fine to like the persona you see being displayed, but never forget that it is not reflective of the entire person. Everyone online is JUST SOME PERSON. Do not forget that and start holding yourself to a standard you can’t even see every side of.

By posting online you are opening yourself to criticism. Whether or not it’s justified can vary, but either way it’s going to happen. Mute stuff, go private, disable comments, etc if you need to.

Misc Tidbits

these are technically just general info that is also good for offline but I have seen things that make me think people online need the extra reminder.

Learn what cults are, how they recruit, and what they do to their members. I'm not kidding. This is particularly relevant at the moment because of current societal unrest and widespread loneliness. here's some more fandom analysis nobody asked for!! this is gonna be my charlie day moment this is gonna be me standing in front of a red-string corkboard shouting about how i've connected the dots bc i cannot sleep and i am in desperate need of a topic to take my mind off Other Things. so here's me breaking down what i mean when i say that consumer culture is the root issue of all (? or at least many of) the problems i currently see in marauders fanfic/fandom spaces (the only fandom i am plugged into; perhaps some of this can be generalized outwards, perhaps some of it cannot. i'm not an expert on anything i'm just overthinking shit i Observe).

Part 1: The Black Hole of Consumer Culture

ok so first we need context first we need to make sure we're on the same page and the page that we're on is that late stage capitalism is destroying our ability to see literally anything outside of a consumer culture. like we are reaching a point where literally every facet of our lives is monetized, including our hobbies, our entertainment, our art.

like. ok. part of the sort of like...promise? expectation? assumption? with capitalism is that work, money, the consumer economy, all that jazz is a contained sphere, right? you have your home life, and you have your work life. but that just...doesn't really exist anymore. no matter where you are, no matter what you're doing, you are consuming or being consumed. everywhere we turn, somebody is selling us something; everywhere we turn, our lives, our data, our attention is being sold to advertisers, who then use that information to sell us back their products. we are all stuck in this endless consumer cycle. and because we're stuck in this cycle where the lines between our private interior interests and thoughts versus our public selves and images are constantly blurred, it's getting to the point where we are being taught to literally always see ourselves as products for the consumption of those around us. this was only exacerbated by the pandemic, where suddenly everyone was lonely and isolated and seeking connections through algorithmic social media platforms that turn you into a product for advertisers and then work to sell shit back to you. i mean, i think about margaret atwood's whole "you are the male voyeur in your own head," right, but with the growth of social media and the surveillance state there's almost this constant sense of being watched that i think applies to practically everyone, and there's also this sense that the only way to assuage our loneliness is to boil ourselves down into byte-sized (couldn't resist the pun sorry) aesthetic photographs or 30 second tiktok clips or pithy little tweets to gets as many likes as possible, and that's--fuck, sorry, i'm already ranting, but it's just. it's just. that's not what being human is, and yet because we are stuck in this consumer cycle it is becoming more and more difficult to see ourselves outside of it, and that means boiling ourselves down to the most shallow and basic little pieces of meaningless shit in a desperate attempt for some part of ourselves to just be seen by strangers on the internet. and social media is tugging us in with these algorithms, destroying our attention spans, getting us addicted with little dopamine hits until we literally do not know how to connect with each other as people, as human beings, because all of our social interaction is coming from people's boiled-down internet personas and these parasocial relationships we develop with what essentially amounts to cardboard cutouts of humanity, and we wonder why we're all so fucking lonely all the time, and we open our phones to scroll through tiktok to get that dopamine hit and try to forget. fucking FUCK it's a nightmare and we're all stuck in it. sorry.

the point: it is becoming more and more difficult to see any aspect of life outside of the framework of a consumer culture, where everything--even our very personalities, our very selves--is a product for consumption by someone, somebody, somewhere, anywhere.

so if this is what's happening to us, what's happening to our art?

Part 2: The Deterioration of Art

look, let's get my personal stance on art established and out of the way, alright? i think that good art, dare i say real art, is one thing: a conversation. i think good art (using "art" broadly here--literature, music, performance, etc all included) asks us questions, good art makes us think, good art sits with us and says: what does it mean to be human? good art does not hold up a set of moral guidelines and say "this is how you're meant to live your life"; good art holds up a mirror and says "how do you think you're meant to live your life?" good art engages our critical thought.

the consumer economy is not conducive to critical thought. the consumer economy is not conducive to good art. the consumer economy wants your attention now, right now, and now it wants you to look at something else, and now it wants you to look at something else, and it wants you consuming as fast as possible, and it doesn't want you sitting and thinking and reflecting on what you consume. and it is extremely difficult to find any art that exists outside of the consumer economy, at this point, because like i said--we're all stuck in it.

and the thing is, like. it is incredibly difficult (maybe even impossible) for any art, any media, that is created within the consumer economy to actually challenge its hegemony, because like...i mean, the organizations producing so much of our art are businesses. the tv shows and movies we watch, the books coming out of these big publishing houses, the music that gets played on the radio--all of it ultimately has a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, because the status quo is what puts money in the pockets of these giant corporations.

so what does that mean? what does it mean that so much of our art is being produced by corporations that want to keep us happy and distracted and consuming as much as possible, as fast as possible?

it means we aren't getting art as a conversation. we aren't getting art that challenges us to think deeply, and critically, and to struggle with what it means to be human. instead, we are falling prey to this insidious idea that art ought to exist with moral guidelines built in, that art is supposed to tell us how to live. and it concerns me to see this growing spread of moral puritanism that aligns in many ways with what i've seen in the conservative christian spaces i grew up in, which decries any moral ambiguity as Supporting Moral Wrongs--as though art is something meant to be morally pure, and if it's not then it is a corrupting influence that must be eradicated. and because we're being brainwashed into thinking that art is no longer meant to be a conversation, but instead a simple product to consume that already has all the answers pre-packaged for us, we end up seeing so much mainstream art and media that is so incredibly shallow, as well as increasing censorship surrounding art. i'm just gonna link to this jen silverman essay, which talks about this really well.

Part 3: Bringing it Back to Fanfic

ok so here's where i finally start to get to the point. and the point is that fanfiction is meant to exist outside the consumer economy (if you've read any of my other posts about this, you'll probably think i'm starting to sound like a broken record. that's because i am). and that is so incredibly unique in this day and age. there is so, so little art left that exists entirely outside the realm of the capitalist meat-grinder, and we should be striving to protect it at all costs.

but! but. of course, the consumer economy is insidious and it spreads like a mold over everything. and the thing is--here's my theory, okay? here's my theory. not an expert, new to fandom spaces, disclaimer disclaimer blah blah blah. here's my theory.

i really think that tiktok is largely the reason that fanfiction has become so much more tied into a consumer economy over the past 3ish years. like, marauders fandom specifically--it seems like atyd going viral on tiktok is what essentially started this wave of people going, "oh, fanfiction can be TikTok content," and then suddenly...it was. and once fanfiction became TikTok content, it got placed inside a consumer economy, because tiktok is an algorithmic social media that does all the shit i discussed in part one of this fucking. rant. essay. whatever.

SO suddenly people are interacting with fanfic within the framework of a consumer economy, and we see this shift in fandom culture that i think has left a lot of people really confused and upset and has also led to just a lot of people talking over each other, because if two people are engaging with a form of art using entirely different frameworks, it's just like...well ur starting with different premises. like of course you're going to have communication issues.

anyway here are some problems that i personally have observed that i think all tie back to this issue of engaging with fanfiction through the framework of a consumer economy:

unnecessarily criticizing fanfction the way you might criticize a product that you paid for and didn't like

demanding that fanfic writers produce a certain amount of content or produce content in a specific way, as though fanfic writers are making a product for audience consumption

engaging with fanfiction under the assumption that anyone writing fanfic wants it to be advertised and go viral and gain a huge audience

when a fanfic does go viral and someone gains a huge audience despite never seeking it out, treating that person like an influencer or celebrity and placing expectations + responsibilities on them that they literally never asked for

on the flipside of that, people getting into writing fanfiction who like...advertise their fic as though their goal is to go viral. i mean there's nothing wrong with sharing your work on the internet and wanting people to see it, y'know? but just like...evaluate your own motivations behind why you're sharing your writing. if your main priority is to just to get as many likes as possible, it will probably not end up being a very sustainable or joyful hobby for you.

treating fanfic as though it is meant to be a set of moral guidelines (rather than a conversation about morality) and loudly declaring fanfic problematic when it contains subject matter that does not align with your personal moral code

acting as though there is a clear delineation between writers and readers of fanfiction in a way that plays into the dynamics of producers and consumers

i'm sure this isn't a comprehensive list but this is everything that's coming to mind for me right now. so. yeah. when i say that placing fanfiction within consumer culture is like the Root of All Evil this is what i mean! and this is why i think it is so so so important to push back against fanfiction being placed in a consumer economy and to try very hard to keep it separate in its own little oasis.

PHANTOMMY HCS

So I realised that I have a Completely Different interpretation to Phantommy then like,,, Every other post I've seen, so I thought I'd write 'em down

(Very Long Details Below)

He still goes by Tommy and actually gets Offended when people try to use different names for him.

He's heavily associated with red and can (Occasionally) give out said red, which results in different effects

Unlike ghostbur, who really only has one Stable state, Tommy fluctuates between Three states quite often. There's no pattern or time limit, nor is there a certain trigger that brings on these states, its mostly just random and unpredictable.

STATE ONE: L'mantom

-Dresses in the L'manberg uniform he wore, and has a constant arrow in his chest and a scar along his back that bleeds into his clothes (Similar to Ghostbur's) His hair is short and fluffy, and is styled similarly to how Wilbur styled his hair in the first war.

-In this state he's consistently happy, energetic, hopeful and extremely loyal to L'manberg. He still believes it exists as it did Pre-election and any attempts to tell him otherwise are immediately forgotten.

-He's Literally blind to the truth. He sees everything, but he sees the server how it was back before the election. So instead of seeing the huge crater, he sees L'manberg.

-He sees Tubbo and all of the other former citizens of L'manberg in their uniforms, and anyone who wasn't involved in the war Or wasn't in the server at that point he can't see at all. They're literally invisible.

-He can still Hear them, but he has no concept of who they are and will consistently forget.

-In this state, if he hands out red to people, they gain the ability to see the world like Tommy does.

-He hands out red by reaching into his open wound and literally pulling the red out of him.

-It's not so much era specific, it's more like you see the server in the period in which you have the most happy memories.

-Meaning that most off the L'manberg citizens see the Original L'manberg.

-Phil sees the server how he Imagines what the server Used to be like based on Wilbur's descriptions in his letters

-Techno and Ranboo both see the crater as it is, but while it stops there for Ranboo, Techno also sees his home as it was when Tommy was living with him. (So the cobblestone tower and doghouse are still there ect ect)

-The red lasts for 24 hours and then wears off on it's own, and though people can See the past as they want it, it's not Real so any attempts to interact with it fall flat.

STATE TWO: Exileinnit

-Dresses in an antic empire uniform, only extremely worn and torn. Frequently seen with a green bandana and compass. His eyes are a dark red, and he has bright red scars on exposed skin, as well as plasters. His hair is longer and styled in a loose plait, similar to Techno's. He also has a friendship necklace on a wristband.

-In this state he's mostly quiet, but can get extremely angry. He's violent and cold towards pretty much everyone, with a few exceptions.

-The only people he talks to directly are Dream, Techno and Ranboo. Towards Dream it's mostly confused, lost and sad, towards Techno he's loud and energetic and jokey, and towards Ranboo he's more subdued and careful.

-He hates being alone, but left with anyone who Aren't the people he talks to he becomes increasingly angry and unpredictable.

-In this state, he doesn't actually Hand Out red. Moreso, you feel the effect of red if you look into his eyes.

-When someone looks into his eyes, they're compelled to either say Some truth, a confession or a secret they've been hiding. It's like a momentary truth spell, and the longer they look in his eyes the longer it lasts.

-(So if they only briefly look in his eyes they may only be compelled to say One thing, but if they maintain eye contact for longer, it could last for up to an hour.)

Phil: I feel like I failed as a father

Tubbo: I'm terrified that someone will take my new home from me

Ghostbur: I remember everything (You can pry the hc that Ghostbur actually remembers Everything and just pretends not to from my cold, dead hands)

Ranboo: I killed Tommy (LMAO JUST KIDDING RANBOO NEVER MAKES EYE CONTACT WITH ANYONE)

STATE THREE: Prisoninnit

-Dresses in prisoners clothes, and wears a mask Identical to Dream's. Has shorter hair in a small ponytail and red gloves. pretty much covers As Much Skin as possible.

-In this state he's paranoid, and in a constant state of panic. He feels trapped in small spaces and in the dark, and he flinches at loud noises and anyone wearing armour or holding weapons. He only relaxes slightly around Tubbo, but is still constantly wary of others and often accuses them of working with (or even Being) Dream.

-Red pretty much Leaks out of him in this state uncontrollably, it often stains his clothes and crawls up his skin (similar to the red vines of the egg)

-In this state, touching Tommy will cause the red to activate, so he avoids contact as much as possible.

-If someone activates the red, they're Transported back to the Most Traumatic Moment they have and are forced to relive it. Everything feels Exactly the same and Incredibly real and no matter what they do they can't stop the moment from happening again.

-(So for Tubbo it's his execution, for Phil it's killing Wilbur ect ect)

-This version of Tommy is actually Aware that he's dead.

In all three states, using red has it's drawbacks for Tommy

-In state one he'll become blind until the red wears off

-In state two, he'll be unable to speak for around an hour after the original reaction (I's longer depending on how long the red is in use)

-In state three, he'll become deaf for a short period of time, and the only thing he can hear is music discs, which play when certain people are nearby

(Cat plays when Tubbo is near, Mellohi plays when Ranboo is near, Wait plays when Techno is near, Ward plays when Sam is near an 13 plays when Dream is near)

The Mikaelsons are bad enough to deal with individually but together they're so much worse. If they're not fueling each other's own obsession or behavior then they're constantly trying to one up one another.

You won't know what privacy is after the Mikaelsons have "forced" welcomed you into the family. Whatever you alone time you once had will be nonexistent. All your time will be filled with one or all the Mikaelsons vying for your attention; whether it be Klaus insisting on painting you or just having you sit while he vents, or Elijah reading either to you or with you. Or even Rebekah dragging you out shopping with her or intruding on whatever your doing only to complain about what the others have gotten up to, or dealing with Kol trying to get you to tag along to cause whatever trouble he's aiming to stir up.

Klaus is by far the worst amongst the Mikaelson siblings. All he wants is to keep you safe and with the family, with him. If he had it his way he would lock you away and throw out the key but Rebekahand Elijah call that being immoral and cruel. You're the most important thing to Klaus, he will do anything to ensure nothing happens to you. You'll be the only one to calm his angry tantrums and talk him down from harming any of his siblings. He has such a soft spot for you, all the siblings do, but you could literally get away with anything when it comes to Klaus. You could do no wrong in his eyes unless you were to try and leave him or the family of course, but even then he could never bring himself to ever physically harm you.

Klaus is beyond possessive, delusional and clingy, he demands your constant time and attention. He is known for his very temperamental behavior and he hates to share you with anyone, especially his siblings. But he's highly hypocritical all the same, expecting his siblings to share or give up their own time with you for him but he wouldn't do the same for them, going as far as throwing a hissy fit if ever asked to.

Rebekah is also possessive and clingy, she doesn't necessarily need your attention 24/7 as long as she can be in your presence and stay close to you, she doesn't really mind. She's just as protective as her brother's, as well as petty, if someone rubs her the wrong way they're either dead or she'll surely get revenge against them. Anyone close to you is no exception.

Rebekah is another one who can be much more tolerable then Kol and Klaus. She's more empathetic and understanding of the controlling behavior of mostly Klaus and how he will go to all ends to make sure he has you by his side and as much as that annoys her, she would do the same given the chance. She loves you just as much as her brothers and she's willing to go above and beyond to keep you safe and happy. Your happiness means the world to her, she may not have gotten the chance at her own but she'll be damned if you suffer the same fate. She'll fight for your happiness and do anything to ensure it but all she asks is that you let her stay by your side and be a part of you life.

Even though she herself has been willing, more times then not, to give everything up for love, she won't stand for you doing so. She's more than willing to accompany you to live a somewhat normal, human life but when it comes to love, that's a whole other situation. Of course she wants you happy and she does but she can't accept the thought of you abandoning her for someone else, or the thought of you being happy without her. You make her happy and give her the love she's always yearned for and she's not letting someone's else have that, whether they be friends or love interests. She won't let you leave her behind.

Elijah is far more passive when it comes to you, he knows and is understanding of how you'll react to being taken and brought into the family. Klaus, Kol and Rebekah will be far more impatient to your distress but Elijah will give you the time to adjust, keeping his younger siblings at bay all the while. You'll probably grow closer to him specifically because of this fact but that won't sit well with the others, especially Klaus.

Elijah is by the far the easiest to tolerate. He's always the one to lend his ear to you whenever you have something on your mind about. He'll actually listen to your words of needing space or time for yourself, but you'll only have a limited amount of free time and he's always close by in case anything may go awry. Elijah is the most fair out of his siblings but that doesn't mean that he isn't selfish for your time and attention much like his siblings, he's just much better at getting your willingness to spend time with him then his siblings are.

Even though he is much calmer and empathetic then his siblings, at least regarding Kol and Klaus, he can still be just as cunning, ruthless and murderous as them, but with the added patience in tow. He's just as obsessive but he's more protective then anything else. He just wants to keep you safe and happy. He'll be less likely to compel you, only doing so if it's in your best interest. But your needs will always come first for Elijah, he's not afraid to go against his own kin especially if it's for you. But then again, he isn't opposed to sacrificing your own thoughts and feelings if it ensures you staying with the family, whether that's what you want or not.

Kol is the definition of unpredictable, he's a loose canon waiting to go off, especially when it comes to you. He loves when you're along for the ride to cause whatever chaos he plans to ensue, whether your willing or not, it's his way of bonding and spending quality time with you. He has absolute no shame about killing anyone in regards to you, he'll do whatever he wants as long as he gets to keep you with him.

Kol isn't one for sharing, non of the Mikaelsons are save for Elijah, it's his least favorite thing about you being part of the family. He will encourage you to run off with him and cause whatever trouble the two of you can get into, hell he may even just up and take you away from his siblings without hesitation or a care in the world. He doesn't care too much for your's or other's thoughts and feelings especially in regards to his entitled time both to you and with you.

He is possessive and delusional. He's another one who demands your constant time and attention. He'll often go on killing sprees for you, feeding from anyone and everyone who has so much as looked at or have breathed the same air as you. Sometimes he'll even bring you back souvenirs from his murderous endeavors. He expects you to praise him for his efforts and accept his gifts. He's just showing you how far he's willing to go for you. Rebekah and Elijah are the ones who will usually clean up after him and dispose of his 'gifts'.

Kol and Klaus are the ones who won't bat an eye at killing anyone close to you, let alone your own family. They both go out of their way to get rid of anyone who has interacted with you, feeling the need to prove that they're so much better than any of them.

Klaus and Kol will be the ones to push for you to be turned right away but Rebekah and Elijah will push harder for you to be, at the very least, a certain age so that you can still live a relatively normal human life for the time being until the set date. Of course if anything detrimental were to happen they would change you in a heart beat. Klaus and Kol may even conspire together or separately to change you quickly.

The longer you're human the more the Mikaelsons will be protective and hover around you 24/7. You and your safety are the upmost importance to them, they aren't going to take any risks with you involved.

All they want is for you to be with them and be a family, they're all more then willing to compel you to be willing of and accepting to the family. All the siblings in their own ways will sacrifice your true happiness and what you really want by compelling you, whether they know it or not. At the end of the day they are selfish, immortal beings who want what they want and they will do anything and everything to both get and keep it.

If Esther and Mikael ever take any interest in you or were the ones to actually bring you into the family in the first place, the siblings won't tolerate them trying to get close to you whatsoever. After what they've had to go through with their own parents they aren't going to put you through the same suffering and fear that they've had to live with and runaway from for centuries. The siblings will only be fueld all the more to protect you and to finally get rid of their birth givers for once and for all.

No one will be safe from the wrath of the Mikaelson siblings. If they feel threatened by someone then they will gladly kill that person and use any and all necessary actions to keep you safe and with them. You'll only ever be safe with your new family. They'll keep you safe and happy, at least what they consider happy. But you'll never have to fret, you're family will always be there for you, even if they are the only ones you have left.

Any and all friends and love interests will be seen as threats to the family. They don't want you being close with anyone except your new family. Your already existing family will be killed or compelled to forget about you. The siblings may even use their compulsion to have your family go against each other, breaking your family from the inside out.

They'll make sure to take very good care of you from now on, you won't ever have to worry about being abandoned or left to fend for yourself. You'll have four very capable family members to stay by your side, loving and protecting you for the rest of your soon to be immortal life.

PC:1.69.54.1020 / Mac: 1.69.54.1220 Console: Version 1.35 Happy Holidays Simmers! It’s time to go back in to Create a Sim! Where in this update you will find 100+ new skin tones, customization sliders for skin tones and makeup, and three improved base game hairstyles! Every skin tone now has a value slider that allows you to change the light to dark value of that skin tone, unlocking a much wider variety of skin tone options for you to play with! You will also find that our skin tones are now filterable to warm, cool, and neutral tones (as well as miscellaneous that covers our occult skin tones).

The new makeup sliders add more choices and opportunities for you to customize your Sims, and express your Sim’s style! Hue, saturation, value or brightness, and opacity are now available to modify on the makeup. We have locked some of the sliders where it did not provide an optimal experience or make sense for the makeup. Expect us to continue our work on these issues into the future to provide you with more. In addition to the customization opportunities provided, you can also save custom swatches as you tweak your sliders to get the perfect look. When you click on the swatch (for skin tones and makeup) as you modify the sliders, you will have an opportunity to save your custom settings, so you can re-use it later without having to remember your perfect looks! Did we mention that we made some hair updates? We did - we updated a base game child hair (cfHair_BraidedPonyTail), and we added a second version of that hair that removes the baby hairs (cfHair_BraidedPonyTailPlain). And we updated a base game male hair that you may find difficult to recognize from the original hair (ymHair_flatTopTextured)!

We have updated the Main Menu!... Again! The idea behind this change is to create a more cohesive experience and give Packs a more proper space as we continue to grow our content lineup. As a nice bonus, we highlighted the Gallery in a more meaningful way to inspire you.

Sims 4

Sketching so much that the Digital Sketch Pad just quit on you? Never fear! Freelancer Sims that use the Digital Sketchpad will now be able to complete designs without being reset abruptly.

Happy Birthday to all! Sims will now properly Age Up. Adulting is hard but they will make it, don’t worry.

Fixed an issue in which Doors, Windows, and Arches had cutouts when being reflected in Mirrors. Rorrim Rorrim no eht llaw, ohw si eht tseriaf erutaef fo meht lla?

Sims that do not have the Fishing Skill, or have not been Fishing at all, will not get notifications about identifying Fish. THEY WERE FISHING WITH THEIR MINDS.

The following careers have added the “Take Vacation Day” option, yay!Editor Russkii note: I didn’t want to add each line in each pack for this fix, it would have looked weird and robotic so that is why I chose to do one bullet point for all in this section.

Child Sims will no longer forget they are in their Sleepwear when they go to school. Though in these times of Work and School from Home, I don’t blame them one bit.

The Sweet Escapes Country Toilet will no longer be Comfortable AND Uncomfortable at the same time… There can only be one!

Sims with the Best Selling Author Aspiration can now complete their task of writing 3 Best Sellers.

Fixed an issue in which resized objects would disappear when they were part of downloaded Gallery items.

We revised our Careers (Pack specific and not) and we made sure there were no Chance Cards that were repeated constantly.

We noticed we had added the option to Clean Up Toddler on kitchen and bathroom sinks for both Toddlers and Children by mistake, so we removed it for both age groups from the sink… but how would have they fit? Like… how? These are the questions that keep me up at night.

Build Snowpal interaction is no longer available on non-natural ground (For Simmers that own Seasons and/or Snowy Escape). That's why it's called a Snowpal, not a Floorpal!

Get to Work

We made a clarification on the Xenophilia moodlet when interacting with Alien Sims. It should no longer say “From Discovering Aliens” but now it correctly reads “From Interacting with Aliens.”

Fixed an issue in which childbirth was not possible if Simmers changed the color swatches of the Surgery Tables. Now listen, I have heard about renting whole hospital wings for a birth in real life and other eccentricities, but this… was really something.

Get Together

Male Sims will no longer get Pregnant after receiving calls from NPC Sims.

City Living

NPC Sims will now text and call with invitations to Festivals. I personally welcomed the calm and quiet of my phone not beeping about constantly. But I can’t miss a Festival!

Sims rejoice! Yard sale customers will no longer invade their Home Lots and use Household objects. It is a Yard Sale… OUT in the yard, not an Open House.

Did you ever regret trusting some Sims enough to give them your apartment keys to constantly get visits from them for Milk and Juice? You can rest assured that they will no longer visit you for this purpose. I think some neighborly love is appreciated, but this went beyond the proverbial “May I have a cup of sugar?” type of situation.

Fixed an issue in which interactions to participate on GeekCon contests would not appear when interacting with objects.

We decided to give a bit more clarity when displaying the location of Festivals, so now it will display as “Near <insert location>” and not a distinct location that is not entirely correct. This is true for Festivals in Snowy Escape as well.

Cats and Dogs

Pets will no longer sleep in random places when told to sleep on their Pet beds. In my world they can sleep where they are most comfortable, my conspiracy… allegedly.

Seasons

Sims can now Shower in the Rain… Jury is still out on Singing and Dancing.

Sims will no longer “lose” their shovels when performing other autonomous activities while performing the interaction “Shovel Snow.”

Our friendly neighborhood Snowpal has been properly renamed to Chill from Chil. Everything I knew before was a lie… a LIE!

Ever felt like the Holiday spirit has just been too much to handle, and Father Winter starting to show up everywhere and not letting you do much of anything getting a bit… out of hand? Fear not! Father Winter will stop replicating himself* to spread holiday cheer. *Note this fix is not entirely retroactive, new saves should see this without issue. Existing saves will correct themselves over time.

Get Famous

Duck Security SCROO9E Super XL Smart Vault will no longer disappear after Sims Woohoo in it… you can say Woohoo can be romantic and magical, but maybe not to this extent?

NPCs from the Actor Career sometimes would never show on Set, making gigs impossible to complete. We've spoken with their union reps and everyone has agreed to stop this ridiculous strike. What were they striking about? Was there even a Strike? We may never know.

Island Living

Mermaids and other Occults should no longer be able to make hybrid occults. How were they making them? Oh boy, I'm not sure if it's appropriate for me to give you the mermaid-birds and spellcaster-bees talk.

Randomly generated Mermaid Sims will no longer be seen without some features in affected Simmer Saves. However this fix is not retroactive, so it should be seen fixed in new saves.

Pizza delivery to Lagoon Look Lot has been fixed to arrive promptly. This is Sulani Deep Lagoon Pizza, home of the 2x1 Mermadic Kelp Pizza and the Salty Llama Combo, may I take your order? <Descriptive Simlish on the line> Uh huh… uh huh… <Indescribable Simlish on the line> Yes, we now can ACTUALLY deliver to Lagoon Look… <Interrogative Simlish on the line> Yes, we told our delivery Sims that they need to deliver it there and not keep the pizza for themselves… like give it to the actual client. <Surprised Simlish on the line>

Discover University

Has this ever happened to you? Your Sim is ready to make an offering to the Sprites only to find a crystal stuck without being able to move it? No longer a problem, Sims now can remove offerings so all their rituals can resume. Sprites rejoice.

We fixed an issue for our Console Simmers that wouldn’t allow them to close the Humanoid Robot’s Behavior Module Menus correctly.

Fixed an issue that would cause items to be repossessed when loans were fully paid. That is NOT how it worked Repo Person… NOT how it worked.

Sims with Research & Debate Skill 3 or higher will no longer be able to “Convince to” with Toddler Sims.

Masquerade Secret Society Masks are now properly unlocked in Create a Sim when joining the Secret Society.

Fixed an issue in which Heckle animation was sometimes not being performed autonomously by Sims while playing Ping Pong.

Eco Lifestyle

Fixed an issue that triggered the Off-the-Grid notifications after traveling to different Lots in Evergreen Harbor, even when they are not labeled as Off-the-Grid.

We spoke to all Eco Inspectors, and they have agreed that they should NOT be charging the Energy efficient appliances fine if your appliances are fully upgraded to be super efficient and amazing. I mean all that work and still get fined? Not in this house!

Fixed an issue in which some placeholder text was showing in notifications after Dumpster Diving.

The Americana Station Speakers will now play Music… as the prophecy foretold.

When the We Wear Bags N.A.P is active, Grim Reaper will not be partially invisible when appearing on a Lot. Grim Reaper contributes!

Living the No Appliance lifestyle? We’ve got news for you! Sims will no longer be penalized for not having “Eco-Friendly Appliances.” No appliances, no fines!

Snowy Escape

Vending Machine Canned Soups and Drinks won’t spoil anymore. Time to stock up!

Sims can no longer go on Hikes while holding their Toddlers.

Space Heaters will now be able to be placed on Lots from Inventory. Sharing the warmth everywhere!

Fixed an issue in which the Shoe Removal Sign in 5-1-2 Kiyomatsu was not working properly. We also added Shoe Removal Signs in 5-1-1 Kiyomatsu and 2-4-2 Wakabamori.

Sims will now be more visibly furious when having the appropriate furious sentiment toward other Sims. “Yes, I’m mad!... No! This IS my furious face!”

Fixed an issue with some animations that would stutter while Snowboarding or Skiing. We also made sure that Sims with a high level of those skills would not always choose the Bunny Slopes.

Izzy Fabulous’ Star Simmi Rank was just too fabulous so we had to correct it to be one star less than displayed. Don’t worry Izzy, you are a full 4 stars in my book, you are that fabulous to me.

After much debate of whether it is the Cave Shrine or the Mountain Shrine for Hiking destinations we finally decided to just call it Mountain Shrine.

We revised the Snoop-Proof Bamboo Blinds and it is now possible to drop’em like they’re hot with the Thousand Words Window.

NPC Sims will no longer “take over” the Slopes for themselves for an indefinite period of time, now they will be sharing with all Sims the joys of the Slopes.

Fixed an issue in which Sims would get highlighted in the Sentiment Panel as if receiving new Sentiments every time traveling is involved.

Sims with Rock Climbing Skill 7, or higher, are able to autonomously climb the Tall Wall (Such tall! So much wall!). There is no need to not face what makes you uncomfortable… autonomously.

Had a chat with Yamachan and asked if he was ok, he seemed to start random conversations and then randomly say goodbye without reason. We are happy to report that he is OK now and will try not to do that. Give us a hug Yamachan.

Food Stalls at Mt. Komorebi Festivals won’t be closing shop randomly during Festival hours anymore. <guitar and piano intro> Closing time, open all the Stalls and eat all the food in the world...Closing time, turn all the lights on and let Yamachan greet you heeeere…

Create a Sim asset ymHat_EP10HelmetGoggles has been fixed to no longer display clipping around the neck area as well as we made sure no facial hair is removed when wearing this asset.

Dine Out

Experimenting with photo frames will no longer use the same picture of an Experimental Meal when displayed.

Hot Pot meals are now part of Restaurant Menus! I miss the times I would go to eat Hot Pot at a restaurant. One of my favorites has a conveyor belt that carries your fixings never leaving your table for a thing. *happy sigh*

Vampires

Vampire Sims will no longer be affected by temperature, so they won't be constantly obsessed with lighting fireplaces trying to get warm.

All I Wanted Was You: Karl Jacobs x Deity of The Inbetween! Reader

“Hi, I’m Karl, what’s your name?”

They smiled fondly.

“(Y/N)”

They never knew they could miss something like a silly introduction so much. Maybe it was because they knew it would never be experienced by them again. Other people would have his attention focused on them, even if just for a greeting. They were Icarus, flying too close to the sun, and falling to their demise. 

There were other time travelers, but none as captivating as him. They recognized how fatiguing it could be to travel to different times and places constantly, and completely outside of your own will. But somehow, this one ‘Karl, his mortal name is’ maintained a shocking sense of self, as well as optimistic spirits. They longed to be a part of a timeline where they could be together, whether romantically or platonically.

As a deity, they were not meant to form attachments, especially with mortals. They knew that even talking to mortals was dangerous, so why they decided to form a friendship with one is a mystery. Maybe it was the idea of having an escape from the monotony of their position. One could understand why a being could get a bit tired of little to no change for hundreds, if not thousands of years.

So they sought out that change. They began to follow him to the dimensions he traversed. They’d install themselves as a main character in the story he was telling, so they could form some sort of short-lived bond with him. Shockingly, their higher gods, the ones who created the Inbetween they reside in, permitted this behavior. They allowed the younger deity to form these superficial bonds, so long as they followed a single order.

“You may not pursue nonplatonic bonds with this traveler, or any after him. You can continue befriending him in universes apart from his own, but anything beyond that…”

“Anything beyond that and we will erase his memories of your presence altogether. He will forget every timeline you enter with him, and he will never be able to interact with you here, in The Inbetween.” 

They knew what the consequences were. They knew it would hurt them. Yet they still chased after him. Everything was fine, they would become his friend in all his stories, they would watch with glee as he wrote in his books, knowing that they were apart of it. This all worked out fine, until it didn’t.

Diary #3

There’s always one constant when I travel, and that’s (Y/N)

They’re always in the timelines I visit, and they always go to befriend me each time.

Could they be like me? Are they a time traveler too?

I should see if I can find them, in the present.

Do they even exist in this time?

I’m going to find out

It’d be nice to have someone who understands for once.

I could show them my library.

This made (Y/N)’s heart flutter. He wanted to get to know them? He wanted to show them his library, one of the most important things he has? Their mind raced with thoughts about what this might mean. Does he feel the same way I do? Is this what mortals call love? I should reveal myself to him, I could be closer to him if only I-

They then remembered the deal they had, they may not befriend him in his own time. Their heart sank, this was their chance, they could’ve been more than a character, they could be a companion. The idea warmed them, to be his companion. 

They debated internally until they realized Karl had left the room, he no longer wrote in front of them but had left the secret room, presumably to meet with one of his friends. They huffed and brought themselves back to The Inbetween, where they proceeded to sulk, watching travelers come and go, dazed from the fatigue of traveling through time, to different dimensions. 

They continued to join Karl in his adventures through time, until one incident where they forgot themselves. They got too close to the sun, and they fell.

“Oh god, the lights are going out again,” (Y/N) called out in frustration. They were having a conversation with Karl, and they felt they were finally getting close to him. Lyaria had been found dead, and the group suspected (Y/N), as they had been the one to hide in the ballroom. Karl had taken them to the secret room, to discuss their supposed guilt, but was cut short by the lights going out, meaning somebody was going to get murdered. He looked past them and his eyes seemed to be following something. “We need to go, now,” he said urgently. Before they could respond, Karl was pulling them to the upstairs bathroom. “Let’s hide in the bathtub,” They suggested, and Karl nodded. As they sat with their legs tangled from the lack of space, Karl whispered “I know you’re not from here. You’re like me, aren’t you?” (Y/N)’s eyes widened. How could they respond to that? “I… not, exactly? You’re right I’m not from here, I’m, from a complicated place. I’m a deity, and I’ve been keeping my eye on you. That sounded creepy, I just meant that I wanted to make sure you stayed safe and I-” He cut them off “No, no, I get what you mean. You just wanted to help, I appreciate it. It’s comforting to have someone to share this with.” He had smiled at them then, and they realized how close their faces had gotten. They kept staring at his lips, and they thought of all the daydreams they had involving him. All of which were completely inaccessible to them. Their eyes locked onto his, and suddenly he had gripped their face in his hands and pulled them towards him. They captured their lips in his, and for that moment everything was enchanting. They had finally felt the feeling that human literature went on and on about. The fluttering in their abdomen, the warmth that spread throughout their body, the overwhelming contentedness. For that moment, they were just a normal person, kissing the boy they liked. They pulled apart and stared into each other’s eyes for a moment. They smiled at him but then felt their vision go blurry and they realized their mistake. Their body began to slump as the world fell away.

That was the last time they ever got to see Karl. Well, that’s not exactly true. They could always see him, they just couldn’t touch him. Or speak to him. Or have his precious giggle directed at them again. The worst part is, they never got to speak about it with their superiors. they never brought it up, and they were terrified to bring it up . So, they sat and watched as he forgot all of their adventures, the kiss they shared, their presence entirely. It hurt so bad. 

It was even worse when he got engaged.

Not only did he forget them, he also fell in love with other people. They couldn’t even be mad, they were wonderful people. They felt genuine love for him, and they kept him safe. They fell back into the monotony guarding the dimension came with, and tried to push away the pain. 

After all, they only had themselves to blame.
