I saw this thread on reddit and it made me curious

(For the purposes of this question, let's assume you're playing a casual game with a friend and testing out a new Standard deck.)

Just saw a post of someone saying that Daniel (from Interview with the Vampire) is so far into the closet that at the time of the Dubai interview he doesn't even realize he's queer.

And I really don't think that's true for his character.

He wrote articles about AIDS in the 1980s (later published in a book). He frequented gay bars in the 1970s (and possibly later). He's had sex with men. He's not repressed. (ETA: not repressed about the gender of people he's attracted to, anyway)

Now there's a lot we don't know about Daniel's life, so it is open to interpretation, I'll admit. But it really feels more to me that he's written to be someone who's, like, a 1 on the Kinsey scale. Like, his longest romantic relationships were with women. His primary motivation for being at gay bars in the 1970s really was to score drugs. (Tho that wasn't his only motivation). When he tells Armand "I can be on my knees in a minute" it really is just him "bargaining with desire" not expressing his own desire. He was definitely attracted to and intrigued by Louis (and flirting with Louis) in San Francisco, but the promise of sex alone probably wouldn't have convinced him to go to Louis' apartment. And for sure there is so much tension between Armand and Daniel in that Dubai apartment, you could cut it with a knife...it's just, y'know, both sexual and angry.

Daniel's a character with a lot of nuance in his sexuality. His sexuality is fluid. He's a character for whom his motivations for having sex are not always purely about desire (though desire is wrapped in it). And I love that! Finally a character whose sexuality is muddled...who doesn't fit into any boxes (not even those created by other queer people)...and yet who doesn't seem to be at all confused by himself. By the time we get to Dubai, he knows who he is, in terms of his sexuality.

And that doesn't make him less queer. His muddled queerness isn't a problem to be fixed. Hell, that's true even though Daniel might not even call himself queer or bisexual. This show has earned having a character do that. Like, the beauty of there being so many queer characters on this show is that no single character has to carry the weight of representation. So their sexual identities can be muddled and stay muddled.

random hill I feel like dying on today: ice cream requires a metal spoon

if the ice cream is properly frozen a plastic spoon is obviously inferior and likely to break. plastic spoons only work for ice cream you buy at an ice cream shop to eat immediately because those places keep the ice cream right on the edge of too soft, so the servers can scoop reasonably quickly and don’t hurt themselves. the upshot is you have to eat the ice cream very quickly to avoid ending up with a nasty runny mess; it’s a bit stressful, especially if it’s a cone and/or there are multiple flavors

anyway, casual ice cream places will always give you some kind of spoon solution so you will only ever have to provide, and thus to decide on, your own spoon, for ice cream that’s sold in >1 portion sizes (I don’t want to argue about pint tubs; I will say you pint-at-a-sitting eaters are very probably getting diminishing returns) and kept in a cold freezer, eg at supermarkets, where the goal is for people to be able to get it home, so it needs to have more than a five-minute half-life.

look, idk, i think ice cream should be hard enough that you might need a little muscle to dig into it the first minute or two, but you get to take your time over it and enjoy it? eating ice cream shouldn’t be a race against time! sure it makes scooping a bit more difficult but there are solutions. maybe they don’t work at scale for multi-hour shifts. or maybe shop owners save enough money setting the freezer at barely fucking cold that they don’t care

probably michelin chefs will disagree with my whole premise here and prefer to serve ice cream barely cold enough to retain its shape. but they also are probably giving you one tiny tear-shaped scoop of it on a plate of something else, basically as a condiment. that is not my central use case for ice cream. i want it separate from other things (which it will just make soggy as it melts. no! bad! retvrn to chantilly) and i want to graze meditatively on it whilst comfortably seated

That's it and that's the truth. I have read the books and yes. Every relationship is very complex and most of them run very deep. But no one in both louis and armand's lives can lessen the fact that they love each other. Just look at how obvious their love is in the books:

It was the love of Louis which had at times crippled Lestat, and enslaved Armand.

They have different kinds of relationships with many people. It doesn't change what they feel for each other. It doesn't take away from it.

The reason i wanted to say this is because i think people don't always understand the significant role they play in each other's lives. I know it's seen as a threat to most popular ships in this fandom but it's the truth.

Of course it is somewhat toxic and it has its highs and lows. But so does every other relationship in the series

Not to be weird or overly judgmental of other historical fiction media and media that’s target audience is children, but, I really like the way Liberty’s Kids (and TURN ~ obviously though TURN is a historical Amrev drama first and factually correct second, I do seriously recommend the factual book it’s based on of the same name…) but I really like the nuance and ambiguity of the 18th-century and American Revolution in all its aspects without being overly coarse or cynical of the subject matter, each of them give, you can tell it’s written by competent people.

I liked Victoria from Netflix's Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

It felt like she cared too much, and it wasn't valued there. Not sure what the reason was, either she wasn't able to show it, or they put emphasis on different things.

It was slightly disappointing to see her making a commitment to come back, especially after both boss ladies said that they couldn't see her as a leader. I didn't like how her need to prove herself forced her to agree to staying at the place that hurt her.

Oh! The end! She hangs up shackle-pompoms! Good for her!

Strangely, I am a bit wary of Reece, her dancing is exceptional, but her interviews make me wonder how she manages to be so nice, and I am left with an impression of a cold-blooded killer*

Speaking of women that are killing it, it's the management; not many could elevate the team to the heights where hoards apply to work as the second job, full of impossibly high demands, earning only ginger cents**

There was also a lot of talk about Jesus, and a lot of talk about proving yourself, and a lot of hours put into the work.
