RE: 5x05. I have no idea how much I'm supposed to read into this, but that has never stopped me before:
It's VE Day. Havers is back in England. The post office, telephone system, communication infrastructure etc all still work. So where is Cap's sense of urgency coming from? He knows the full name and regiment of a serving officer, a letter will get where it needs to go, they're very good about that over there. Yes, Cap's been waiting, but its been six years, he can wait a little longer-- hang out in the bushes until he sees Haver's car drive away and bang on the window, if he insists on being an insane person (<3). Figure out where he's billeted. Japan hasn't surrendered yet, so I suppose there's a chance Havers could get shipped to Burma or something and potentially die there, but he's not going to go straight from the cocktail reception to the troop ship, especially if everyone there is about to get "Hitler defeated"-levels of drunk. ("They're all red tabs, surely decency and decorum--" they are going to roll those old soaks out of there in wheelbarrows)
The urgency isn't because Havers might die. I think Cap knew his time was short.
He's a middle aged man in tolerably good shape, all that ration food aside. He make good time on his morning jogs, and his biggest ailment is 'creaky knees'. "Widowmaker heart attack out of nowhere" isn't an unheard of COD for someone who seems otherwise fine, especially someone who has been under a fair amount of stress (six years of wartime, including the fucking Blitz would do a number on my heart) but his sudden relocation makes me pause. It's only been about a year since he got relocated away from Button House, right? What was all that about? It's presumably still requisitioned, given that they're throwing a swanky victory party there and Heather Button is nowhere to be seen, but has the weapons program been disbanded? Or was there some reason to pull the CO out of a high-stress position and send him to the beach to take potshots at seagulls? (I am being glib here-- the coast was NOT a stress-free place when you can see your enemy just across the Channel). I genuinely forget what he said he was doing in season three-- was he even still in the army at all, or did they send his ass to the Home Guard? Even they got a campaign ribbon.
I think Cap made one last push to get to the front, and while its very clear that this dingus should under no circumstances be on the front line (<3) they humored him with a medical-- and found something really troubling. Or maybe he went in of his own accord, the old flutter, or maybe it was just a routine checkup. Either way he got some very serious news, so sorry old boy, just one of those things, could be any day now-- best make sure your affairs are all in order.
Hence the single-minded desire to meet, once last time. Everyone else clearly drove-- did he walk all the way from the train station, down the country lanes? Did he feel a little short of breath scaling all those walls? Did every set-back and stressor make him more determined-- just give me a little more time, just a little more time...
It could also be that he just got yelled at so hard he died of it, which is almost certainly how I will go, but that was my immediate impression and it has not left me, nor have I known peace. I know there's a few holes in my theory but I haven't talked myself out of it yet. For me the kicker is that he experiences at least ten devastating emotions in the last moments of his life, but "surprise at entering cardiac arrest" does not appear to be one of them. It looks more like grim acceptance. Stoic in the face of death-- a soldier to the end.

I'd like to hear 3 from you, I bet it's some cute Sully family stuff
3.) An off-screen scene you wanted to see?
YA DARN RIGHT IT’S SOME CUTE SULLY FAMILY STUFF, IT’S ALLLLL THE CUTE SULLY FAMILY STUFF BABEYYYY
For real though, I would’ve adored to see more of this. Especially when the kids were very young. Consider, for example:
Jake constantly carrying his baby(s) around to all his olo’eyktan duties.
Neytiri telling them all the traditional Omatikaya stories and singing them songs (according to the visual dictionary one of the earliest beads on Neteyam’s songcord represents the first lullaby he remembers being sung to him like excuse me??! 😭)
Mo’at recognizing Kiri’s inherent connection to Eywa and kinda taking her under her wing
Little Kiri going around nonchalantly befriending all the animals like a big blue Disney princess…to the point that she gets her ikran wayyyy earlier than usual just by asking it to be her friend (that part’s canon lol)
Jake’s own Na’vi language skills improving exponentially as his kids start learning to talk
The general mix of wholesome and chaos as Jake and Neytiri learn to be parents for the first time and all the stuff that comes with that, especially given how quickly they had their first three, them going around trying to wrangle their little toddler army…but despite the chaos they just love each other and their kids so much, the RDA is gone and the clans are at peace and they’re just so happy right now and wouldn’t have it any other way—
like bruh give me three hours of that and I won’t even have a heart anymore because it will have all melted in to a great big puddle of sugar-coated sap on the floor 😭😭😭 we got very brief little snippets of it at the start of the movie and it was wonderful but gosh dangit I want mooooooooore aahhhhhh
oh, here’s a more specific silly scene that I was discussing with @barking-in-the-dark recently:
So imagine that Jake and Neytiri need a babysitter for Neteyam and Kiri when Lo’ak is ready to be born. Mo’at can’t do it since she is of course assisting with the birth, and Jake’s next thought was OH! NORM AND MAX!
So now human!Norm and Max are stuck with a pair of comically oversized not-quite-toddlers for a few hours
Norm quickly gives up and leaves for about 10 minutes to link up with his avatar. Max swears those were the most chaotic (non-war-related) 10 minutes of his life.
Neteyam is already walking at this point and he wants to be everywhere. Kiri isn’t yet (I headcanon that Neteyam started walking significantly earlier than Kiri did even though they are probably less than a month apart in age, partly because he is described as a natural athlete and “golden child” and partly because Kiri is just too easily distracted by her surroundings to think much about walking)—anyways, Kiri can’t walk just yet but boy howdy can she crawl and if you take your eyes off of her too long she will disappear, she practically needs a balloon tied around her waist so her caretakers can keep track of her
Spider, currently around 2 years old, also happens to be in the lab at the time and that kid can climb
so poor Max is now having to chase after Neteyam (who may only be year old but Na’vi as a species are big so he already comes up to Max’s torso), stop Spider from getting into all the equipment that should be way out of his reach but isn’t because he moves like a monkey, AND keep a constant eye on Kiri so she doesn’t wander off and vanish chasing some stray insect or something
It gets a lot better when Norm returns in his avatar, but those 10 minutes were rough lol

My thoughts on the new CCS OVA
Some spoilers due to the changes from the manga
Pros: - ALL THE SAME VOICE ACTORS AND OST AS THE OLD ONE AAAAARGH PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT THEY ALL STILL SOUND AMAZING I AM SO HAPPY - My heart still gets super excited. I can't believe I'm alive to see this scene animated. AAAAAAHHHH <3 - The new song by Tomoyo THANK YOUUUUU - I like seeing Kaho and Eriol holding hands. The manga version of them drawing their faces close together creep me out hahahaha Cons - I know there's not enough time but where's the meeting with Rika and Chiharu and Yamazaki? I always loved that part of the end where she meets up with everyone who showed support and love in the end. Ah well. (Also I am aware Rika's VA passed away so I should have seen this coming but still) - WTF is going on with the colours in this animation? It's so damn saturated. I wonder if the DVD version would be better but I'm not keeping my hopes up. - WHY IS THAT AFTER CREDIT ENDING SO SHORT I WANTED TO HEAR THEM TALK TO EACH OTHER A BIT LONGER - IN FACT THIS WHOLE DAMN OVA IS TOO SHORT I DEMAND MORE I TELL YOU MOOOOOOOOORE
