𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬 ♱ various
+ yandere stuff below the cut. you already know what to expect, so view with discretion. i’ve used this post as reference to these headcanons. not proofread! i kind of rambled, too, so…
NEUVILLETTE
Subtype: Controlling, Observing
Variant: Brainwashing and Conditioning
Having held the title of Iudex for decades upon decades, there’s not a soul in Fontaine who could challenge Neuvillette’s authority. He’s the perfect embodiment of justice across the land; his words have a certain weight that can sway opinions and perspectives. For his darling, this proves to be a misfortune. Even though the Iudex wouldn’t outwardly rely on violence, he has the mind and the right words to persuade his darling against ever leaving his side. How could you ever oppose the spirit of justice that Neuvillette possesses? His experiences have gained him unparalleled acuity. This astuteness often renders his darling obedient. Neuvillette’s goal might not include placing his darling beneath him, but he also relishes at this power more than anything else.
AYATO
Subtype: Controlling, Monitoring, Overprotective, Actor
Variant: Keeping Tabs, Glassware
Ayato’s tendency to dominate heavily relies on leading the Kamisato Clan at an early age. Half of his life has been prepared for control, and he has all the avenue to help him enact this authority. Born and bred to mingle with his retainers, Ayato knows how to play innocuous to gain advantage. He possesses a keen sense of observation; nothing that his darling does ever goes past his attention. Despite being leagues away, Ayato never hesitates to seize the potential of the Shumatsuban to keep tabs on his darling. Freedom is a bitter pretense; you know you’re being watched from every corner of Inazuma regardless of Ayato’s absence. As the first-born son, it’s his responsibility to take care of everyone, and it’s his ultimate goal to reduce his darling into a hopeless mess who can turn to no one but him.
DILUC
Subtype: Removing Nuisances
Variant: Physically Violent, Murderous
Diluc would die first before he lays a harmful hand on his darling. However, the wrong people might meet their untimely ends if they dare touch you. His façade has been carefully morphed to that of immovable indifference, but the simmering rage is quick to explode whenever Diluc faces a dilemma regarding his darling. Anyone who ventures to stand between him and you would be hunted down even to the pits of hell. Contrary to this side of him, Diluc makes careful deliberation on how to eradicate the forces which threatens your relationship with him. This character isn’t owed to the good reputation his family name bears, instead it is due to Diluc’s careful nature. Rushing will get him nowhere; he hates messy work. If he decides to kill someone just to have you for himself, he’d plan the whole thing to perfection.
CHILDE
Subtype: Removing Nuisances, Overprotective, Attention Seeking
Variant: Making an Impression, Doll
Childe is a weapon made of flesh and bone. Fighting fills a huge part of his being; it’s harmless to say that violence is a friend he’s known at an early age. These tendencies stretch out for the protection of the people he values. Aggression is his first answer to any threats against his darling, and aggression he utilizes to ensure that you do not run away from him. Just thinking about Childe’s potential is enough to turn your blood cold. Behind his handsome smiles is a person who wouldn’t think twice resorting to violence. Having absolute confidence in his combat abilities, it’s often that you will find yourself watching his prowess in battle, as he has a penchant for fighting those he deems as a worthy opponent. Childe yearns for your validation above all else. Your praises are his fuel and your rejection is the bane of his existence.
WRIOTHESLEY
Subtype: Controlling, Removing Nuisances, Monitoring
Variant: Physically Violent, Physical, Isolating, Confinement
Wriothesley is held on the highest regards inside the Fortress. In the prison, there is no law but his words, and the prisoners know better than to offer him meaningless respect. He has a gentle side, don’t be afraid, and it’s solely meant for his darling only. However, his desire to protect you from outside forces tips back and forth between a noble cause and his wanton need to isolate you from the world. Why do you even want to leave the Fortress? You have everything and more down here. Why do you even think that you can escape to the surface? When you have no ally to aid your goal? You are a dove in this massive cage. Surely, the prisoners can gift you all the sympathy in the world, but they still have the right mind to avoid tempting the Duke’s wrath. At the end of the day, the rest of them can offer you nothing but apologies, because their lives— and yours— are in the hands of Wriothesley.

Probably been said already but I'm having a break today and therefore I have no filter.
So we have basically agreed that one of the main motifs of Dunmeshi is that eating food (especially food made of monsters) equates to the ability to take up space, the necessity of making your needs known and heard in order to survive.
Thinking about what that says about the characters. Readmore because long.
Most of the world is pretty down on the idea: they don't want to admit someone would resort to that, let alone find joy or satiation in it.
Senshi is open and unbegrudging. He not only enjoys it but he spreads the knowledge and ability wherever he can, and invites others to find that joy too.
Chilchuck admits the necessity, takes some joy, but remains wary. There are circumstances where he is encouraged to enthusiastically enjoy, and circumstances where other factors outweigh his enjoyment for the food's flavour.
Izutsumi is picky, and refuses to eat food she doesn't like, which has parallels, but honestly I think her character speaks more to the themes of freedom and restriction in the story than to the themes about exerting your will and identity on your surroundings. But still, there is something in her desire to eat only what she wants, when she wants, independent of others' needs for food. And her tension over wanting to have an uncomplicated relationship between I caught it = I eat it, ignoring intangible contributions from others, or contributions not directly related to hunting.
Kabru has a deep revulsion for it. His own background and circumstances mean that even if the food is good, he's, at least to start, incapable of enjoying it because of what it represents to him.
Mithrun (slight spoilers this paragraph) never chooses to eat, he is only fed when others decide he needs food. He is not capable of either enjoying or disliking food, not in any meaningful sense.
Laios GLEEFULLY enjoys food, and expects everyone else to as a matter of course. In Laios's mind, everyone who doesn't enjoy monster food must have something else going on that he can't understand. He wants people to enjoy food as much as he does, and wants, like Senshi, to invite that enjoyment. He openly, uncomplicatedly, unreservedly, loves to eat.
Falin I have ... Thoughts about but they involve a lot more reading between the lines so I would need to make a whole separate post. Suffice to say for now that she enjoys it, but nobody knows that about her or expects it of her. That's the very base, no-nuance reading.
Marcille. Oh Marcille. Marcille says she hates monster food at every opportunity. She rejects it in a way that almost makes her the "voice" of repulsed society, especially at the beginning. She is rigid about what food she does and does not enjoy. But almost every time she is given monster food and ends up eating it? She LOVES it. She is ECSTATIC to be eating it. She INDULGES.
Anyway, there are other themes and motifs that interplay with these but just saying. Just saying the characters have some Important Themes going on here.

Rain code Spoilers below!
I made it guys, took me 2 weeks and 3 WIP posts but here it is, the final version!
Details are a bit blurred because tumblr pixelated the living hell out of this but I am so happy it's finally done!
Ramble down below about the whole piece, it's pretty long.
This piece was a journey, this started at a much smaller piece with just Makoto and Swap!Yuma (I have no idea how to refer to him) sick and just that, then my brain wanted to add caretakers, which then lead to the desk, shinigami and everything else.
About the actual process but I definitely will not do pieces like this any time soon. I sadly didn't plan ahead and had to make up the anatomy as I went, definitely should have gotten references, both would have made it easier to pinpoint the anatomy and I wouldn't have spent so long. The sketch phase was definitely stressful but I feel like it was worth it, Spending hours on getting the hair how I like and cleaning it up was definitely worth it, made coloring easier and more fun with the colors and cleaning the sketch eliminated the need I always feel for rendering.
Moving to what possessed me to add about 4 additional characters into this (if shinigami and amapal can be considered characters). Yuma and Makoto (the non sick pair) were the first two to be added, they were added pretty early when I still had my composition sketch and were easily to put in, what reason for them? Pure need for my brain, there is no other reason. Ama-pal and Shinigami were added just from a stray thought, not much to them. The desk is an amalgamation of all the knowledge I could gather and fit, the papers I decided to never add text to, the wet cloths, the stray tissues, the 2 thermometers, 2 cups/mugs, some medicine as well, and of course, the last resort paper towels when it's truly desperate. This was definitely a challenge, I don't usually draw props, so doing this was fun (I gave up mid way on truly doing details, they aren't the main focus so less detail). I also added temperature on the thermometers but it might be too blurred, pixelate, or something else.
Generally tried to give more casual outfits, Makoto and Swap!Yuma are just in a T-shirt, the colors being a darker and more de-saturated versions of the colors of their original colors. Yuma is just wearing a regular business? shirt and the shorts from his WDO uniform. The shirt on non-sick Makoto just felt like it fit, the vampire shirt will forever haunt me. Tried to make them look as sick as possible (I added extra red on the nose but idk if its visible), definitely fun experimenting with what color the flush should be and what opacity it should be, there is also the sweat (Hopefully it's still visible, there are also either details I won't mention).
This took me 12 hours in total and 30 layers of madness to fully finish this but hey, I had a good time in the end. I am going to add the "no dramatic lighting " version or the one before all the color adjustments and effects:
And last for the whumpcode CEO; @pixelatedraindrops
Thank you everyone of the patience and the support, I am going to doodle now! Byee!
(Officially my poster child, so proud of this one, gonna ramble about to my friends guys)

Yusuf is there when Nicolò enters the old temple, not a vision of him, no portal behind him that will take him somewhere Nicolò cannot follow yet again before he has the chance to reach him, just Yusuf. He's alone, his head tilted upwards and eyes closed, illuminated by the shafts of sunlight that fall through the cracked ceiling. The sight of him - here and safe and whole, finally, after everything Nicolo's fought through to reach him - takes his breath away.
"Nico," Yusuf says, and opens his eyes to look at him. He smiles, and he's still Nicolò’s Yusuf, even after everything that's happened.
Nicolò can't wait another second, then, sheaths his sword at his back and walks up the stone steps towards him. Yusuf's smile widens, and then he's stepping into Nicolò's already open arms, laughing. "I missed you."
"Missed you too," Nicolò says. He kisses Yusuf's temple, holds him close. "So much, Yusuf, you have no idea-"
Yusuf leans back, cupping Nicolò's face in one hand. "I know. It's okay. I'm here."
But Nicolò knows him well enough to know something's wrong. "What is it?"
"It's not over, yet." Yusuf steps out of Nicolò's arms and back a few steps, leaving him cold. "There's so much more you don't know yet, but we're running out of time. He will return, soon, and we're not ready."
"Tell me what I need to do," Nicolò says immediately. He can't bear the idea of Yusuf disappearing again, not now when he's finally here, when every other time Nicolò has tried to reach him he's been a second too late. "Anything, and I'll do it, whatever it is. Just tell me what you need."
Yusuf smiles again, sad. "It's not you, Nico. We need more time. And I can buy it, but-" He cuts himself off.
"Then I'll help you."
Yusuf shakes his head. "You don't understand. For this to work, I need to reform the seal, and I can only do that by" - there are tears in his eyes, now, and dread running down Nicolò's spine - "by sealing myself away along with it."
Nicolò realises just a moment too late what that means. "Yusuf-"
"If I seal myself here, in the past," Yusuf continues, "when you return to our time, it will be just strong enough to hold. You will have the time you need to finish this. And once all this is over, the seal can be broken in our time."
"I can't," Nicolò says. "There has to be another way. This can't be it."
"It's the only choice we have," Yusuf says. "I cannot - this was always my path, Nicolò."
She's manipulating you, Andromache had said, the goddess. She's using Yusuf to make you do what she wants, can't you see? If Nicolò hadn't understood then, he does now - neither of them ever had a choice in this. Yusuf was chosen because Nicolò would follow him anywhere, and Nicolò was chosen for the same reason.
Nicolò realises something else then. "If you seal yourself here, you'll be trapped for thousands of years."
"I'll be asleep," Yusuf says, soft. "It'll be like the blink of an eye. So when this is all over, you'll have to come wake me up." He smiles, then, even through his tears. "Just like old times, no?"
And before Nicolò can say anything else, the air around him begins to glow gold, condensing around Yusuf, who tilts his head back and closes his eyes, and Nicolò cannot move, frozen in place by something beyond his control. All he can do is watch as the light gathers around Yusuf, blindingly bright, until Nicolò cannot see him anymore. Whatever's holding him releases, and he runs towards Yusuf even though the light hurts his eyes, and just as he reaches out the light fades.
Before him is what looks like a crystal, tinged orange, clear enough that he can see Yusuf inside, his eyes closed. He looks like he's just sleeping, like this is one of the mornings Nicolò had had to wake him but had paused for a moment just to watch him.
Nicolò lifts his hand to the crystal. It's freezing cold when he touches it. Yet again, he's too late.
"I'll come back for you," he tells Yusuf, even though he knows Yusuf can't hear him. "I swear it. I'll finish this, and I'll come back for you." His voice is trembling, but he can't let himself break down now, not when there's still work to be done. The faster he finishes his task, the sooner he can wake Yusuf.
(Nile is the first to ask when he returns through the gate, waiting for him with Andy, Quynh and Sebastien nearby. "Where's Yusuf?" she asks, looking behind him - the plan had always been that Nicolò would bring Yusuf back with him, after all.
Nicolò can't bring himself to say it out loud.)
--------------------
It feels like an age before Nicolò returns to the temple, now in the present. It's over, finally - the five of them have sealed the demon king away for good. The others are outside.
The crystal is overgrown with vines, now, just like their old favourite meeting place on the island where all of this had started. Its surface is scratched and clouded with age, but Nicolò can still make out Yusuf inside it, looking exactly as he had when Nicolò left him in the past. He hates to think of the crystal here, alone, for so much time.
There's a glowing mark on the crystal's surface that hadn't been there before. Nicolò approaches it carefully and places his hand over the mark.
Almost immediately, glowing cracks begin to grow from where his hand touches the crystal, spreading across the whole thing until it's glowing as brightly as it had when it was formed, but he can't look away. When the light dies down, Yusuf hovers in the air for just a moment before whatever spell had held him there finally breaks, and he collapses, but Nicolò is there to catch him, sinking to his knees and cradling him close. He doesn't move for a moment, and Nicolò is terrified, because what if something had gone wrong-
Yusuf gasps awake, his eyes fluttering open. He looks around frantically before catching sight of Nicolò above him, who nearly sobs with relief, holding him impossibly closer.
"Nicolò?" Yusuf whispers, his voice hoarse. Nicolò nods, unable to speak just yet, blinking back his tears and brushing Yusuf's curls away from where they've fallen into his eyes.
Then Yusuf asks, "Did I oversleep?" and Nicolò has to laugh even though it comes out sounding more like a sob, kisses his forehead and smiles. "It's over, then?"
"It's over," Nicolò confirms, and then, "I love you."
Yusuf sits up and wraps his arms around Nicolò's neck, buries his face in Nicolò's shoulder and holds on tightly. "I love you too."
(When they return, Nile is the first to them, hugs Yusuf so tightly he laughs, and then it's Sebastien's turn, then Andromache and Quynh both.
They choose to stay on the surface, all six of them. And neither Yusuf or Nicolò are the same people anymore - sometimes Nicolò wakes screaming, sometimes Yusuf gets a distant look in his eyes and it takes a worryingly long time for him to come back to himself. Sometimes there are things Yusuf still can't tell Nicolò, and vice versa.
They make it work, though. They find a quiet place in the woods, far away from the temple and any danger, and they're safe, and happy, and together.
It's all Nicolò's ever wanted, really.)
