they werent lying that knuckles series barely has knuckles in it
#i pirated that shit Btw just so we're clear. also gonna talk about it a little bit in the tags#nothing too spoilery but also might not wanna read if you want to go in knowing absolutely nothing? idk#anyway he WAS a main character still he was present for a decent amount of the first couple episodes#but the amount of screentime he gets just starts dropping after that . hes barely there at all in the second half ???#and it feels like theres a lot of scenes mostly focusing on wade and his problems and not near as many for knuckles and his whole deal#overall it feels more like a wade show with knuckles in it than a knuckles show with wade in it. which sucks#and human characters having plot relevance isnt the problem here i dont mind human characters at all i think they can be really fun#its the fact that the human characters are taking over the story and spotlight when the show is called knuckles#and all the marketing makes it look like knuckles is the main focus#and i also would have preferred if they just went with a differnet character to be knuckles' human friend#because i dont particulraly care about wade. and the knuckles (and sonic and tails) i know would not be friends with cops </3#well at least the story wasnt knuckles training wade to be a better cop like a lot of people were expecting but thats like.the bare minimum#also aside from the issues relating to knuckles' screentime (or lack of screentime) i thought the ending was unsatisfying#regardless of all that though there WERE some parts i enjoyed or found kind of funny or whatever. because knuckles so cutesy as always#knuckles being a cute little guy is the most important part of the show actually#and i liked the parts with sonic tails and maddie even if they were only there for like 5 minutes#(i really wish those three had gotten more screentime. i feel like they could have easily worked in at least one more scene with them)#and its a minor thing but the opening sequence is cute. was honestly expecting just a title card or something#overall the show is just . kind of okay i guess. not the worst thing ive ever seen but still disappointing ? idk how to explain..#my expectations also werent very high in the first place#so maybe im being a bit more generous than i would have been otherwise. idk#and i definitely would not recommend this to anyone who already dislikes the sonic movies . youll probably hate this more#like people who thought the human characters got too much screentime in the second movie would lose their minds if they saw this

I feel like Wanda serves her purpose of explaining why Wade is the way he is. Also the thumb thing was pretty funny ngl
I agree! And at the same time, they're fairly similar too. Though Wanda can seem a bit more asshole-ey, it's usually in the stuff like. Starting shit for seemingly no reason. Other than that, she comes off as more antagonistic because of her framing as antagonistic to Wade specifically (like when we see montages of past Shabbat dinners, or her being suspicious of things Wade says).
Although frankly how they act during the Shabbat dinner and how their mother (Wendy) handles it is also just...fairly realistic to me? Like, sure. A bit of it felt dramaticized personally, but aside from that, it made sense for the characters' personalities. Both Wanda and Wade are (for lack of a better term) a bit childish, especially when it comes to each other. And, as someone who has a number of siblings, even when you're adults things can devolve into, well, childish arguments or fights. Whether she started anything or not (and despite the fork thing, a definite escalation of the situation, while one could tell Wade was trying not to engage at the beginning), you can see some realism in the way that Wendy pretty much becomes exasperated by the situation and focuses more on the fact that her kids are fighting at all than who started what. As a person who was once a younger person, I've also been on the receiving end of...dealing with your parent(s) seemingly branding the fight as a "everyone is being bad here" thing, even when you didn't escalate or start anything.
Or in short, that was a fairly real situation to me, down to how the characters acted (especially given their personalities) and how they each chose to handle the situation. To me one can tell that it was at least partially based upon some real life experiences of people involved in the show.
And I'll be real with you anon. To me, Wanda's level of rudeness/assholeness during...the scene where she purposely ignores her mother asking her to help with Shabbat traditions, until she stops bothering to get Wanda to participate, is kind of no different to me than the level of rudeness/assholeness in the scene where Wade purposely mispronounces Pachacamac's name, until the echidna just gives up and allows him an "easier nickname" to use instead.
And ahsjsjwjsjs the thumb thing. I think I was largely uncomfortable looking at it, but all in all it was kind of funny 😂 I love that the creators thought well enough into their new characters (even side characters) to be able to include moments like that. Even if the Whipple family (excluding Pete) is closer by the end of the show, Wanda never stops being who she is and she never gives up on her rivalry with her brother just because everyone is on better terms now. I love it😂
Anyways, thank you for the ask, anon! 😊

So, thoughts on Chris Thorndyke? I've seen a ton of people see him as the worst thing about Sonic X with a small minority even using him as a reason to dislike Sonic X with Tom and Maddie being preferred over him?
im going to be honest i don't mind chris thorndyke. in my ideal world sonic x wouldn't have needed him, because I hate the whole two worlds thing- the story should have just focused on sonic and not all the new original characters. ideally it would have been an adaptation that fleshed out events in games (especially classic games, where theres' not much of an established story) and relationships between characters. i complain about the human characters a lot with the movies but im not super fond about it for sonic x, either.
the thing about sonic x, however, is that all of their human characters are at least a little bit zany. tanaka and ella and chuck and topaz are likeable and memorable characters because they're fucking weird. they're fun. the sonic movies sort of treat maddie and tom as "average" people and they become boring in comparison to the extraordinary. especially since the sonic movies don't have the benefit of a LOT of time like sonic x does. sonic x can afford a few human focused episodes because they have like twenty more to go through. the sonic movies have a max of like two hours to balance the plot and the characters. maddie and tom aren't as interesting in comparison to the plot or the mobian characters.
also, people rag on chris a lot, but i think that's mostly because they don't engage with his character. he's a child who's neglected by his well meaning but busy parents. he makes a real, genuine connection with sonic, after spending a lot of time feeling isolated, and of course he's going to be upset when he has to lose his best friend. he's literally twelve years old! he's going to be emotional and reckless because he's genuinely immature. and i think that makes him compelling, too- he's a three dimensional character. he wants to be a good kid but he's going to make brash and selfish mistakes.
he's not my favourite character, mainly because i don't care for the rich character archetype, but i am not fond of people trashing on chris just to turn around and praise tom. like every criticism people have for chris can easily be turned on tom. "chris steals the spotlight from other sonic characters!" who do you think was the main character in sonic 1 because it sure as hell wasn't sonic. "chris was selfish for not letting sonic go home!" well first of all he DID let him go home. its a similar situation to elise from 06- they know what they have to do, and they will, but it's HARD. tom was selfish for endangering sonic and then initially wanting nothing to do with him. "chris is mean to helen." tom is mean to rachel and crazy carl.
i don't think chris was the best way to go about sonic x, but i definitely like him better than tom. at least when he's a dick he has the excuse of being literally 12 years old. but i do think giving sonic a younger kid as a companion was a wise choice on sonic x's part- it matches the storybook series, when sonic gets transported to a new world and helps a person with their issues while saving the world. it feels weird with tom and maddie, especially since they're forcing this nuclear family dynamic with him.
anyway tldr: chris is fine for the story sonic x wanted to tell with the two worlds theory. sonic movies missed out on giving sonic a human companion closer to his age instead of the weird family thing they're pushing.

Freedom United Volume Series
Based on the Sonic the Hedgehog incarnations that I value, such as (games/comics/cartoons), this volume series will become my redux of the entire saga and continuity. It will include game adaptations, as well as more from cartoons, movies, and comics. I'm also returning that balance between lighthearted, comedic fun, and deep, emotional drama the original became known for back then.
Blood, profanity, graphic death, and other amounts will depend on the type of situation. It's honestly perfect in terms of the kind of presentation I'd like in a Sonic story to become: intense stakes and plenty of dark moments while not being exclusively those things and knowing when to keep things zany and lively.
For instance, the Mobians and Humans exist in the same world. Robotnik can become both comedic and threatening at the same time. Knuckles is a lot more badass and not some blockheaded idiot who's constantly the butt of jokes. And Amy's characterization is more in line with her Boom counterpart.
Another thing that I would revise is that Sonic isn't always the end-all-be-all solution to everyone's problems, and too many characters get the boot simply for the sake of giving Sonic the spotlight. The bottom line is that other characters can become used as well. I will give them that chance.
As for the Sonic pairings, I don't care that much whether or not characters get together. It all depends on how the pairings become executed, and that's all that matters to me. I mean, as long as they aren't pushing it into people's faces or putting it everywhere.
I will NOT insert OCs into the story, whether they are Mobian or Human, because the Sonic series has a shedload of other characters that could potentially be valuable in the story. Whenever I read a Sonic story and see an OC character as part of the main cast, I tend to ignore them. Now, I want to go on the record to clarify that I am NOT hating good OCs or sending any harassment to anyone else. As much as I detest the idea to include OCs in stories, I never condone that sort of behavior to good people.
I pretty much don't like any stories that the main characters are OCs, or the story's emphasis is on these OCs. I'd quit any story almost immediately when I feel one of those coming. I pretty much avoid all fanfics with OCs because of it. Don't get me wrong, I have read a FEW stories that I liked that had OCs in them, but I can tell you that ALL of those OCs didn't have powers and were not parts of the story.
OCs can exist, but be wise about it. People who read fanfiction want to see the characters they love with new twists and turns, not to see something else happening to have the characters they love in it. OCs are okay, but I don't make them perfect and have them replace the people we love.
Aside from that, I might remove any unnecessary story concepts and flesh out new ones too. The plot will be in a future society shared by modern HUMANS and highly evolved animals called MOBIANS. Humans live in the cities of urban areas, while Mobians occupy the forests or an opposite side of a border.
Rarely do the two societies interact, but there will be a backstory between them that'll involve discrimination, jealousy, and conflict. It'll all start as the way they were, but try to stay tuned as I develop the entire series with new twists of my own!
