I think one of my biggest fantasies in life is being able to live somewhere/with someone that I can come and go as I please. Have my own car, not have to rely on other people or explain why I can’t be home of take care of people/the dog/etc. at all time. People think I’m greedy for wanting a well-paying job but having to take care of people you’re dependant on is really shitty and money would 100% solve this problem.

“It’s Sam,” She says.

Her dad looks at her, caught off guard. “What?”

“Sam,” she repeats, heart pounding. “I wanna be called Sam.”

Dad looks down on her, towering, and Sam wonders if she’s ever going to be able to look him at eye level. “Sam,” He sounds out, testing, and she sees his eyes dart over to his wallet and she knows he’s seeing the picture of the beautiful blonde woman that resides within. “Why?”

Sam shrugs. “Because it’s me,” She responds.

“It’s Sam,” She says.

Dean cuts off mid-conversation. He twists around in the driver’s seat, trying to catch her gaze. “Hmm?”

“I wanna be called Sam,” she says, eyes cast down at his newly-acquired driver’s lisence in the cup holder. “Sammy makes me sound like a kid.”

Dean grins. “You are a kid.”

Sam sighs, loud and gusty. “You weren’t a kid when you were twelve.”

“Yeah, well,” Dean says, facing forward again and turning the key. “I’m me. That’s different.”

“No it isn’t,” She says, ready to get louder. “How is it different?”

Dean takes his hand off the ignition and looks at her again. A beat goes by, and he shrugs. “Okay, Sam,” he says.

The teacher looks up from her attendance sheet. Her classmates continue to stare (they always stare) at her frizzy hair and too-large jacket and boots that go higher than they should but that’s not what’s bothering her this time.

“Sorry, Sam,” She says, and that’s the end of that.

Dad looks up from the table in Bobby’s library. The map he is holding down curls over his hand from one side. “What?”

“Sam,” She repeats. Bobby and Dean are watching her now too, and she resists the urge to sink down into her jacket. “And I don’t want to stay in the car. I want to help.”

“You’re fourteen,” Dad says shortly. He doesn’t comment on her name. “You know it’s not time yet.”

“I can shoot,” Sam says. “I can run. I can do it, I promise.”

Dad gives her a longer glance. He almost makes eye contact. “Maybe when you commit to the training,” He says. “I’ll consider it. Prove to me that you really want this, then I’ll think about next time. For now, we need you in the car next to the phone and the books, in case we need backup. That’s your role for right now.”

Sam opens her mouth, ready to make her case, but Dean inclines his head, shakes it slightly, and it’s enough to make the fight seep right out of her. Bobby’s eyes dart between them and his brows furrow, but he says nothing.

Dad senses it (he always does) and turns back to the map, fingers running down the crumpled lines. Bobby and Dean edge closer and Sam stays back, looking at the bowed heads and feeling the static at the back of her mind.

The pause is loaded. Dad’s heaving breaths stutter, like he’s caught off guard. “What?” He says, voice softly dangerous.

“It’s Sam,” she repeats, and not even Dean’s shaking head stops her this time. “Not Sammy. Not Samantha. Sam. It’s Sam.”

Dad huffs out a breath. “You just have to throw everything away?” He says, finally. “Not only what I taught you, not only how your brother protected you. You also have to throw away the name she gave you?”

Sam’s hands tighten on the straps of her bag. She sees Dean lean over, put his head in his hands. She’s never seen him give up before. “It’s my name,” She says. “Nobody else’s.”

“In a family,” Dad shouts. “There is no mine. There’s us. There’s nobody else but us. You think the world will let you get away with whatever you want? You think they’ll understand you? You have no idea!”

“You don’t!” Sam shouts back, feeling the burn as the words come out. “You never understood me! I’m just a little girl to you. I’m her little girl to you! I’m so much more than that.”

Dad breathes hard. “You walk out that door,” He says, and Dean’s head snaps back up. “Don’t you ever come back.”

Sam looks at Dad’s face (he’s serious) and then Dean’s (he’s terrified) and then looks out the door (it’s freedom) and she knows that there was never a question.

She wants to look at them (at Dean) and say I’m sorry and I didn’t want it like this but it’s too late, it’s the only time she’s going to be able to do it.

“Okay!” Sam yells, tears in her eyes, reaching out, the cool doorknob feeling warm in her hand. “Goodbye, Dad!”

As she slams the door shut, she swears she hears, muffled by the wood and by the beating of her own heart, “Sam?”

In 2005, as part of our divorce agreement, my ex and I decided to keep the same auto insurance but under separate policies. We had been with this company for years. My policy was on auto pay meaning that the payments were taken directly from my account. He walked in to pay his. About 6 months after the divorce, I was pulled over for a routine traffic stop and was told I was driving an uninsured vehicle. Without insurance, my registration was also invalid. Both tickets totaled 1K. My car was taken into impound. I checked and found the officer was correct. On good terms with my ex, I told him what happened. He said for the past 6 months, each time he went in to make a payment, the girl HIS was already paid. Realizing what had happened. They were applying my payments to his automobile. I was furious. I notified the agent who initially did not want to accept blame, but since the payments were automatic and my account number was on each payment they took, they were responsible. The error was compounded by the fact that the cancellation notice went to HIS address (how dumb was that!) So I had no way of knowing that I was cancelled. I was without a car for 2 weeks and lost my job. After much haggling and many sleepless nights of wondering what to do without a job or a car, the insurance company finally admitted blame, paid the impound fees of $1,250.00. The agent also said they would handle the 2 tickets totaling 1K. FAST FORWARD TO 2010 in my state, the county did a scofflaw sweep and I was summoned to court with over 5 thousand other delinquent drivers to address unpaid tickets. The order was come to court by April 30th or be arrested. Realizing this had to be a mistake, but fearful of the law, I stood in line for over 5 hours in blazing heat, then sat in court another 5 hours waiting for my day in court. I was immediately threatened with arrest because the 2 tickets were not paid. Up to that moment, I had no idea the insurance company had not paid the 2 tickets. This time, not only was my insurance and registration cancelled, my license was suspended due to the age of the infraction (5 years). In front of the judge, I called the agents' office only to be told by the secretary that they had no intention to pay the ticket. Paying to get the car out of impound was enough. When the judge heard this she was shocked and let me off with a promise to pay in 5 days. She made me promise not to drive. With no way to get home but drive, I took a chance, and was pulled over. The officer informed me that due to the vast number of outstanding cases, tags bearing our county name would be targeted for a while (talk about a police state!). I showed him my documents from the court and headed home. This is a nightmare. Would I have a case if I filed suit against my insurance company for failing in their fiduciary responsibility to a 16 year client in good standing? By the way this company is one of the largest in the country.""

My daughter was in a car accident on Feb. 25. She was traveling straight in the southbound lane, when a rushing man in the northbound lane turned left in front of her. The driver admitted that he was upset because he had been following a school bus for the last 20 minutes and his friend, whom he was trying to pick up, was late for work. He stated that when he saw the driveway that he cut from behind the bus to turn in then realized from the skidding that he turned in front of a car. His insurance company is still investigating and waiting for pics of the scene and his friends statement. I was told by his insurance company (USAA) that witnesses not listed on the police report could not be used, but his friend is not on the police report and they are waiting for her statement. NC State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and the driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way. The driver was apologetic and admitted several times around a number of people that he must have blanked out or was daydreaming from the frustration of the school bus. USAA is saying that they need to make sure that my daughter was not 1% at fault, meaning speeding perhaps. The officer estimated her speed at impact at around 40 mph and the speed limit is 55mph. She hit the drivers back tire of his Jeep Wrangler (small truck) causing him to rest in a small trench or ditch ion the side of the attempted driveway. The front passenger side above the front tire and the front by the headlight is damaged on her car. She tried to avoid him, protect her younger sister (13) and avoid veering to much left in fear of hitting the school bus. My girls were terrified when I arrived 15 minutes after the accident. USAA stated that she may have had time to instanly stop, but she tried everything that she could do. In my opinion, she should have never been put into that situation. USAA is saying that points of contact are off, but my insurance agent said that she hit the back tire because a Jeep Wrangler is only 5 ft long and he was not towing a boat or driving a common sized vehicle. Plus the driver admitted to pushing down on the accelerator when he realized what was happening. I just need to have someones advice on this matter before hiring a lawyer. Thank you.""

The night of the incident where I couldn't swallow, and was in pain! we had guests over and had a few beers! I gave the attending ER doctor all information including I had drank beer an hour before I got there. OK, now, For the 16 hours at the hospital and the multiple blood tests, everybody including the Dr's said everything looked good! and the Dr. that discharged me explained to my wife in detail about my blood work, said things were fine. So, why would my CHP (Capital Health Plan) health insurance company be contacting my primary? Especially about alcoholism counseling, this has NEVER been an issue in the past! I'm so upset! I've been with my primary for over 15 years and due to a knee injury he prescribes me mild pain killers, and Florida Law makes him take a urine sample every 3 months! Again this has never come up. Ok the situation is as follows: I am selling my car for a new one. I have asked my current insurer to transfer my policy to the new car which is fine. However I then questioned about temporarily insuring my old car under the policy and they wanted a ridiculous amount of money for a week - I also do not know how long it will take to sell the car. I was in an accident last month in my brand new Volvo (not even a month old!). I was rear-ended, while I was at a stop sign. Damage is to the rear bumper, pretty bad, looks horrible...especially for a new car! No one was hurt, just shaken! We did not immediately file a police report. We exchanged information, and the the person who hit me told me that they would pay for my repairs out of pocket, and that they didn't want to get the police or insurance involved. Bad part now is, I never got their insurance information, just license plate, DL, addresses(basically everything BUT insurance). I contacted a friend of mine, who is a police officer, and they stated that I can issue a summons to the person who hit me for careless driving, and I will have to go to court. This is basically to show them that I'm not messing around. All I want is my BRAND NEW car fixed!!! I'm NOT going through my insurance because my deductible is $1,000, and the damage is less...not only that...it wasn't my fault! My insurance company advised me to have person who hit me's insurance take care of everything, at no cost to me. Here's what I need to find out...Can I send the person a demand letter, basically stating that I want them to have their insurance take care of everything? I have tried to call them, and they send me to voice mail, so reasoning is not an option any more. I don't really know how to go about this?! I want to try this on my own, and not get an attorney involved. I just want to tell them that if they fix my car, I will drop summons and further proceedings (like small-claims court, which I WILL sue for additional $$ for dealing with all this).
