I love how we all collectively decided it was time for Verlaine to get his ass out of that dirty ass basement and go save us.

Serious Tamlin meta question. Do you think it’s possible that Tamlin’s betrayal of Rhys pre-ACOTAR was sparked by jealousy towards his friend, in addition to being pressured by his father and brothers? Because I can’t help but wonder if there was some simmering resentment there that made Tamlin’s self-justification of murdering his friend easier to swallow, especially as Rhys had the one thing that Tamlin didn’t: a family that loved him and had his back.
Adding on to this, I love the parallels between Tamlin and Feyre regarding their families: both were the third, overlooked child that suffered neglect/abuse at the hands of their siblings and father; both had distant mothers that favoured their spousal relationship with their fathers over concern for their children; both grew up without the love they needed, and while they found comfort in their shared pain, they weren’t able to give it to each other in the end. I know there’s a lot of talk of Tamlin idealizing Feyre to the point of blindness, but Feyre was guilty of this too to an extent, and I think this more than anything is what doomed their relationship (and thank god Rhys and the Inner Circle came in to show our poor girl what a loving family could actually be!).
I thought the explanation Tamlin and Rhys both give is Tamlin simply lacks power? He wants to be Rhys's friend, but he's also in the middle of a war and he is beholden to his own High Lord. So when his father comes to him and demands information, can Tamlin say no? I don't think he could.
I don't think Tamlin divulges that information from a place of malice or even resentment/jealousy. I think he does because he's a solider and soldiers obey orders. That's not a justification, merely an explanation. It's clear he feels regret for what happened, but in this moment, both Rhys and Tamlin have made fatal errors. They're on opposing sides of a war- Rhys should have known better than to tell his enemies son ANYTHING he didn't want repeated, and Tamlin should have tried harder to prevent innocent civilians from being murdered based on knowledge he himself provided (he must have known what was about to happen).
I like your analysis of Tamlin and Feyre's relationship. I do think they were looking at each other through rose tinted glasses and had put the other on a pedestal, at least in the beginning. Both Feyre AND Tamlin are the others saviors to some degree. Tamlin takes the burden of providing for her family off of her and lets Feyre explore true safety for the first time in her life. I would argue Feyre doesn't really have a strong sense of self when she first meets him, and here is this man who wants to take care of her. After a lifetime of feeling neglected, of starvation, and the stress of "if I fail, everyone dies", that must have seemed like paradise at first.
And I think Tamlin sees Feyre as the potential savior of his home- the woman who will free them if he provides her with a little kindness and attention. I would argue that Feyre and Tamlin are never on an equal playing field because he conceals his intentions from the start, but I won't argue that he didn't come to love her deeply.
I just don't think they ever really understood each other. They met during the worst periods of their respective lives and they bonded over their trauma, but who you are when you're just surviving isn't who you are when you're thriving, if that makes sense? What Feyre needed as a starving, desperate human is not what she needed when she had the safety to really come into her own. And who Tamlin was when he needed to free his home wasn't who he was when he was back to full power.
And once they were out of the worst of it, you see the cracks forming.

Thank you for answering! Laswell as a beta makes since. I was pretty sure she wasn't an omega, but I was less certain when it came to the other two options.
I have a follow up question, if you don't mind, in regard to the dynamics in 141. So, I know that there's Price/Gaz and Ghost/Soap and even Soap/Gaz, but is there anything with Price/Ghost besides being pack mates? How does it work with two alphas? And can there be Ghost/Gaz and Price/Soap, or does each beta kinda stay with their alpha?
I hope that makes sense. This is my first poly a/b/o fic and I'm super curious about how all that works. :)
Aaah you're so welcome!! Laswell wouldn't be in the position she's in if she was an omega, at least in the world this story takes place in. Omegas don't really get the opportunity to work, much less hold any sort of power since they're very much treated more as second class citizens than anything. (That's not to say there aren't cultures in the world that allow omegas to have power, but in the ones we're dealing with in the story, omegas don't get that opportunity.)
I will never mind getting questions I love discussing things and fleshing things out. Some things are ambiguous on purpose currently, but I'm always down to explain things as much as I can!
As far as the dynamics go with the pack, it's essentially Price as pack alpha, as the leader. As he is sort of in regular canon, he's in charge, he makes the decisions, he makes sure everyone is taken care of. Things would look slightly differently if they weren't also military, but that's something else entirely lol. Ghost is what's considered a second alpha, basically just second-in-command. If there's a decision that needs to be made that involves the pack, Price and Ghost would discuss it together and make that decision together. Packs can be much larger and have multiple alphas, and how pack alpha/second alpha/etc and that whole hierarchy is chosen depends on the pack. Of course in TF 141's case, the military took care of all of that for them.
They all operate as one unit, despite Gaz being bonded to Price and Soap being bonded to Ghost. They're all one pack under Price, and really the reason they've bonded that way is because there's four of them, two alphas and two betas. They could have not chosen alphas to bond to, and in larger packs there may be more betas than alphas and some may choose to bond, or have alphas they're closer to, or they might not. That doesn't make them a weaker pack or affect anything really, it's just down to personal preference.
That was just a really long way to say that yes Soap/Gaz, Price/Soap, and Ghost/Gaz could and does happen. They're not entirely exclusive to each other. That's why the reader mentioned that even though she'll be claimed by Price, Ghost could also claim her if he wanted since he's another alpha in the pack, and why she's able to be with Soap as well. Price/Ghost could happen, though I think a lot of that is just me. I can't really see them being together all that much, but that's not to say it couldn't happen. 👀
Aah I'm so honored to be your first!! I'm more than happy to explain things (as much as I can without spoiling too much lol)

I love how this route is framed as a series of unfortunate mistakes that culminate in tragedy. The Hunters happen to fall for a trap set by the Church to get to Skadi. Mizuki finds out whats going on and warns you but at that point its already too late to gather a proper rescue team of effective Rhodes Island allies; they're out of time. So Doctor and Mizuki are forced to head into the depths to deal with it alone, and that leads to tragedy. i love that. it makes it feel like the entire abyssal hunter situation really is balanced on a knife's edge and could easily go bad, even if we know they'd never do it in the main story.
I'm also so into the seaborn lore we're being given here. The highest level of seaborn are known as "Firstborn" and Skadi's Isharmala, far from being the one and only supreme being, was actually just one of those. We also see through Mizuki's ascension and Isharmala degrading into just another beast after their defeat that these statuses can change. Lesser seaborn can rise and higher seaborn can be brought low. And what triggers this bad timeline is the Church of the Deep "driving mad" whatever Firstborn caused the Profound Silence in the past and fusing it with Skadi to awaken Isharmala and trigger a new ocean apocalypse. its nice to start getting some specifics about the seaborn after two events where their lore was kept pretty vague.

Mustelid Fact Monday #2!
European pine martens have been proven to help reduce the numbers of invasive grey squirrels in the UK.
Pine martens will hunt both, but are much more likely to catch grey squirrels. Red squirrels evolved alongside the martens, thus learning how to avoid them. They are also smaller and weigh less, which makes it easier for them to escape to higher branches.
In areas with an established population of pine martens, grey squirrel numbers are stastically lower.
