you know, a really random praise i have for RF5?

is that RF5 has my favorite Plain Girl

like, every game except for 4 has one romanceable girl who's just... really normal. she's clearly supposed to be the default love interest, especially since in 1-3, she was very prominently on the boxart.

RF had Mist, RF2 had Mana, RF3 had Shara... and RF5 has Priscilla.

and here's the thing. Mist, Mana, and Shara were absolutely never characters i ever considered romancing. i didn't hate them or anything- i even liked having Shara around as a friend quite a bit- but there just wasn't enough to any of them for me to consider them as serious prospects. they were the boring option.

(which is honestly surprising if you know me- historically, i've got a tendency to get really incredibly attached to the more plain characters in series' that have otherwise more bright and colorful casts. look at my obsession with Tsugumi Hazawa from Bandori. but in Rune Factory 1-3, the Plain Girl just kinda faded into the background for me.)

but Priscilla in Rune Factory 5? she's battling neck-and-neck with Ludmila for the title of my Second Favorite Bachelorette (Lucy's easily snagged first place). she's WILDLY likeable

i've actually been thinking about Eve getting really hyped for inheriting the Hazawa family business. like, she gets more shifts and keeps telling Tsugumi she's read for them to take the next step and she starts learning some management (they're a bit older in this scenario) but Tsugu just kinda doesn't know if she wants that?? she actually was wondering if she wants to take over the cafe, if she even has to?? her parents are still lively enough?? like, its an open path for her but she's still not sure if she wants to take it

also on the other hand her parents absolutely love their (not yet) daughter-in-law, they keep teaching her about all the inside things about running your own business and other stuff they've never mentioned to Tsugu

She’d been working so hard- With Afterglow, obviously, but also the café, schoolwork, her student council duties, and practicing with Yukina-senpai, Maya-senpai, and the others... She knew, realistically, that she was taking on too much work. Just like she always did. But, still... She felt like she needed to do the most she could- To catch up to her friends and stop holding them back, to make her parents proud, to be the best Hazawa Tsugumi she could—

She didn’t want a repeat of last time, though. She still remembered the looks on her friends’ faces when they saw her in the hospital that day, as clearly as if it were yesterday- The concern and love they’d all shown her. How they’d all come running the moment they knew. ...She couldn’t do that to them again.

Her shoulders slumped as she let out a long sigh, tired eyes finally shifting back towards Himari. “...You’re right, Himari-chan. I don’t want you to have come all this way to study together just to stop because of me, though...”
