Tags for BBC Merlin Fics

Since this post of general tags seems valuable, here is a specific one for my fellow Merlin readers and writers!

Can you guys believe that there are only 34K fics in our fandom that are tagged? When we have 62K+ fics!! There are so many hidden gems out there that honest to god changed my LIFE and deserve all the recognition in the world

So here is a guide for what are the most used/searchable tags in our fandom!

you sobbed, heaving up stupid yellow carnations while sitting on the cold, hard floor of the school bathroom.

you wretched up the damned flowers. they fell ungracefully into the toilet which sat in front of you.

your knees hurt from sitting on them for so long.

if only you could tell him how you felt. it would finally all be over, one way or another. maybe with your feelings being requited.

or maybe with you choking to death, the only thing with you while you die being the stupid fucking flowers.

you coughed again, pale yellow petals fluttering to the ground elegantly.

it was a stark contrast to how, just moments after that, you were coughing your lungs out, flowers flopping down into the toilet in large clumps; stuck together by mucus and blood.

you wheezed and wheezed and wheezed until it felt like there was nothing left in your lungs and your throat was burning and your knees were bruised.

you sobbed and sobbed and sobbed until there were no more tears left.

you coughed and coughed and coughed to the point you thought maybe just dying would be better than this fucking hell.

you curled into a ball, crying. crystalline tears ran down your cheeks, falling onto your clothes, the ground, anything.

if only you could fucking talk. why were you like this? why were you fine with your friends, but so terrified to talk to anyone? to everyone?

to him?

maybe, just maybe, if you were different you wouldn’t be in this situation.

if only you weren’t so pathetic, so stupid, so scared.

you hated yourself. you hated yourself so, so much. who the fuck was this terrified to talk to people, but opened up so easily once others talked to them?

who knew if he would even read it? he received dozens of confessions everyday.

he wasn’t even halfway through when he burst out laughing.

”what the fuck is this?” he snickered, holding onto his locker so he wouldn’t fall from how hard he was laughing.

”what pathetic fucking weirdo confesses from an anonymous letter? are they too terrified to say it to my fuckin’ face?”

he continued reading the letter.

when he was done, he crumpled it up and threw it away behind him, still laughing.

”that’s so goddamn stupid.”

unfortunately, the crumpled up letter hit you on your head.

not embarrassing, right?

well, it wasn’t until scaramouche saw it had hit you.

”oh, sorry,” he exclaimed in a voice dripping with mock sweetness.

”didn’t see you there.”

it would’ve been fine until his next comment, which you unfortunately overheard.

”these dumb fucking bitches. they’re so stupid, can’t even move out of the way. what are they, blind?” he muttered under his breath, tone condescending.

you burst into tears right then and there, unable to stop the overflow of emotions.

you walked away as quick as you could, wanting to kill yourself right there.

”so emotional, and over what?”

his laugh rang down the hallway, following and taunting you.

you don’t know what had come over you that day. before that you had always tried to keep your emotions in check, always tried to stop the tears from coming out in front of people you didn't know.

maybe hearing your crush degrade and insult you had just struck a chord or something.

weak coughs wracked your frail body, using up the little energy you had left.

you were on your death bed (quite literally! you were laying on your bed while dying).

honey yellow flowers surrounded you, their sickly sweet scent making you feel nauseous.

you choked up another batch of the flaxen flowers, watching them flop forward onto your bed sheets, staining them a dull crimson because of the blood on them.

with half lidded eyes, you stared at the carnations. your mind was hazy, and your vision blurred.

if you recalled correctly, they symbolized disdain and rejection.

So a few weeks ago, I was at school camp, and one of the teachers that was there that isn't my regular teacher was like.. very chill with my being occasionally nv.

He asked me a question and I answered in ASL (not expecting him to understand or anything, but it's the fastest way for people to realise I can't talk). He had one confused moment where he asked if I could hear him then, and I nodded, and that was the only question he asked me. He talked a bit, I accidentally taught him something in sign, it was a fun interaction. He didn't ask me any confused questions when he heard me talk later, he just treated me like anyone else and I hadn't really realised most people don't before that. I never even told him I'm selectively mute, but he just.. rolled with it.

So, yesterday, there's this basketbal tournament thing, and I was late, and I walk in, and here's the same dude from camp, and he spotted me and he FLUIDLY FINGERSPELLS 'HELLO' AT ME.

After we met, he went and LEARNT that. Like... I don't even know how to descibe the feeling I got when he did that. He obviously didn't learn it for me, because the chance of us meeting again is fairly slim, but... he probably learnt it because of me, and... I don't know what to do with that but it feels good in a way I haven't felt before.

PSA: THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BLACKLIST TAGGING

About Tumblr's Filtering Options:

Tumblr's tag filtering can only filter out the exact tag as is actually on the post.

Wildcards (*) do not work with tumblr's tag filtering system. As such, blacklisting #*example* to catch as many possible different tags as possible doesn't work. Even if it did, it would also then pose the same false positive issue as content filtering. Exact wording is important!

Correct spelling is necessary for tag filtering to work. Do not censor your tags.

Symbols and fancy copypaste fonts do not usually work in the tag filtering system.

Neither do they tend to work in URLs, meaning your tags might not work for navigation on your own blog.

Tumblr's post content filtering searches for exactly what the user asks to be filtered.

This may lead to false positives if the filtered word is part of another, unrelated word (example: posts about "writers" will be filtered for people who block "rite").

Tumblr's post content filtering is limited to 200 filtered words and/or phrases.

Both systems only support adding filters one at a time, and only to one system at a time. This can be both time-consuming and/or exhausting for some people to do, whereas it takes less time and energy for you to tag in a simplified manner.

How Many, Many People Wish Content Warnings To Be Tagged:

Nothing more, and nothing less. If your posts even mention a thing, simply tag it as that thing, because each extra word you add to your tags is another tag that has to be filtered.

It is more helpful to have it tagged as the full content itself for filtering, and you state in the body of the post and/or in additional tags that it is only a mention, vaguely referenced, etc. rather than explicit descriptions and/or details.

And I kid you not, I found some of the best goddamn fics out there by sheer coincidence because they weren't tagged right and they remain overlooked because of this fact

Herbert and Dan have such a weird relationship. I wonder why Herbert stays with Dan because if he got Dan to join him that easily it wouldn't be hard to find a person just as willing.
