2p Russia during Spooky Season Headcannons

He’s likely written down plot 5,769 to torment and kill 2p America in one of the many journals he keeps. [Al pranked Viktor again by egging his house, teepeeing it, and also having a well-covered pitfall that Viktor fell into and broke his arm] 

“I’ve had enough of this bullshit. Stupid American has to pay piper.” 

Viktor either likes to serve his Karma cold like the ice tundra he was born into, or he’ll make a Rube Goldberg-like machine that seems to have an anti-climactic end, only to have it be devastating. The delayed devastation will be something that fucks all up Al so much to where he will have to reincarnate his entire body, not to mention the fucking recovery time will be a month or so. [For perspective, it takes at least 24 hours-78 hours (usually) for any nation to recover if they’ve been fatally injured]

Night owl. Viktor enjoys the solace of the night. This works for him since being around too many people or just people, in general, annoys and drains him. Since it’s Fall, sunlight is far more scarce. Viktor will also enjoy strolls through the forest under the guidance of the moonlight if, for whatever reason, he’s unable to sleep or concentrate on any task he needs to complete or a hobby of his. 

Viktor loves going to movie theatres when they’re mostly empty. He goes to see the yearly installment of whatever popular horror movie is out. On occasion, he will be impressed by a breakout masterpiece or some film director's magnum opus, which will make him want to rewatch a movie. [By rewatch, I mean it’s background noise for him while he knits, does chores, or cooks.] 

Viktor knows of the best-hidden libraries and bookshops and the best Halloween displays for the top books of the season. He likes to pick his top 5 and read through them to see which ones are the best and rank them in his journals. 

The dude can carve some intricate pumpkins. I’m talking about hyperrealistic-looking monsters from Russian folklore. Viktor even carves other things such as ghoulish faces, eyes, and ghosts [that somehow he made to look translucent with just a candle and his X-ACTO knife.] These will be the main decorations that adorn his house.  

Some of his other favorite decorations are spiders and their webs. 

He will always dress as the Grim Reaper because he has bright scarlet eyes, a menacing demeanor, and a terrifying aura. Plus, with the hood obscuring half of his face…. Yeah, his citizens know full well he’s not to be fucked with. [unless you really just give no fucks and don’t have a vested interest in having a quality of life or…being alive] 

In the bar Viktor frequents, the owner had cut a deal with him: Be here in Sept & Oct dressed as the Grim Reaper and let people trouble him for a picture, and he gets paid in any Vodka he can drink for the night, his own special place in the bar that won’t be crowded by people, and fifty Rubes per hour. To Viktor, it's not a bad deal. The owner even had a scythe commissioned to be made with Sterling Silver to make sure he could look as accurate as the Grim Reaper as possible. 

On the actual day of Halloween in the morning [3:33 am], he’ll throw a dart at the map of his nation and where it lands will be where he seeks out a mystic babushka to get his fortune read.

something 2015ish (means 22 episodes, 40ish min log) -> limitless tv show (continuation of the movie), kind of white, mc is manic pixie dreamboy but he wears the coolest sweaters, fun times. i would take that drug.

if you are good with horror and have not watched mike flanagan's stuff id rec it. if you are not good w horror i would still rec haunting of hill house because it is heartwrenchingly beautiful. but ya it has scary points.

i watched mrs davis recently and the tv show is bonkers, but episode 9 pays off bcs the reveal is great. perfect if you are like a person who has worked with code and programming. also there is jesus there and he lowkey hot.

@undercat-overdog prompted me for a writing update, so here’s one last New Year’s exception to my principle of This Blog Is Mostly Other People’s Gorgeous Art:

Word count for the year: 42,712

Number of stories posted to Ao3: A robust 74 (shortest was 128 words, longest was 1,572 words; ficlets are my thing, folks). All are Silmarillion (or adjacent) or Lord of the Rings.

Most popular story: I don’t track hits (mental health recommendation!), but the most popular by kudos are my Legolas/Gimli fics, for sure. Light a Little Fire in Me and Deep in the Ancient Forests of the World are the top two there. In the Silm fandom, Sweet Falls the Rain (Maglor, Elrond, and the tender pains of parenting) and A Lightning Kindled (my Russingon-Glorthelion angst monster).

Fic I spent the most time on: Probably Settle Your Wild Heart (Celegorm/Aredhel, two ways), my first multi-chapter, 1,000+ word fic.

Fic I spent the least time on: Surprisingly, This Blood Will Tell (a Thranduil backstory with a twist) which I wrote in a mad overnight fugue state from a fabulous prompt by @gellalaer.  

Favorite thing I wrote: Still my Glorthelion series, The Flower and the Fountain. I had a mad month of Glorthelion earlier this year, and have recently added a few new fics to that series. I love those guys!

Story I’m most proud of: Probably Fugue: Three Voices, Four Entries, about an arsonist Fëanorian Erestor and all the twins in his life, building off a character idea of @idrilsscribe‘s. It’s very dark, but with a sort of happy ending.

Funniest: Tough choice here; depends on your tastes. Avant Garde (Maglor premieres a new work) or the series The Importance of Peer Review (anthropologist Finrod wreaks havoc Arda-wide).

Saddest: Also tough, since I kill people off all the time in very canon ways. I think History Will Be Kind To Me, For I Intend to Write It (Pengolodh, Eöl, Aredhel, Turgon, ‘nuff said), or To This, He Had No Answer, in which I killed a child to introduce Finrod to mortal death.

Least Popular: Call Me Out of the Gloaming, by kudos. This is rarepair Egalmoth/Rog, and was very fun to write for @antares0606.

Favorite Opening Line(s): This is hard, because I write in so many different moods. But here’s a taste from My Bones Divide and Shake, the first fic in my series about Celegorm and Oromë:

Celegorm will never find words to tell the story. It is beyond speech – a tale better suited to the ecstatic shriek of the mouse as the owl stoops, or the hare beating a mad tattoo before the crouching fox. Top Scenes from Anywhere You Would Choose to Have Illustrated: Oh, anything! I am not a visual artist and greatly admire people who are (hence my general rule on this blog about the proportion of images vs. words). Maybe the Celegorm & Oromë stuff, or pregnant Melian in Blood of My Blood, Bone of My Bone, or Maglor playing silence in 4′33″.

New things I tried: Everything! This is my first year sharing anything I’ve written, and it’s been fun seeing what resonates with others.

Fic-writing goals for 2023: Keep doing it when I feel like it; don’t do it if I don’t.

Favorite Thing(s) I read: So many favorites are already in my pinned Masterlist post or my fic recs posts. Go read them all! Three recent delights towards the end of the year are:

Tell It Slant, by Kaz, What Joy We Might, by Cherepashka, and The Hopes and Fears of All the Years, by Verecunda. Not sure about tumblrs for those folks, but if you know them, tell them I love those works!

To Kill a Rose is one of my favorite things I've done. I wish I had more than a month to work on it, but given the time I had, it turned out really good I think. So, with bigger time slots now, the shorts should be better quality moving forward, too, which is something else I'm super excited about.

Recently, I've started thinking about how magic works in the Asterix universe.

Let's start with the Druids. It's obvious the exist and they're well respected among the common people. They participate in an annual festival, where they compete to see who has produced the best potion. Asterix, the village's greatest warrior, always makes sure that Getafix is ok and sometimes he doesn't even act without Getafix' consent. Even Vitalstatistix, the village's chief, asks Getafix for advice. And Getafix' opinion is always respected.

We have seen Getafix producing more kinds of portion, not just the magic portion that gives its consumer great strength. Like that one time where he profuced a magic potion that healed or made Asterix jump like a grasshopper.

I know I'm late to the fandom, but I just wanted to share the similarities I found among "Six: The Musical":

"No Way" - "Get Down": Both songs address Henry for the same reason: to prove him wrong! Catherine wants to prove to Henry that he's wrong about divorcing him, as she has never ever has done something to upset him or cause him pain ("If you could just explain/ a single thing I've done to cause you pain/ I'll go/ No?/ You've got nothing to say/ I'm not going away/ There's no way!"), meanwhile Anna states that Henry was wrong about him calling her "ugly" ("You, you say that I tricked ya/ 'cause I, I didn't look like my profile picture/ Too, too bad that I don't agree!")

"Don't Lose Ur Head" - "All You Wanna Do": Both pop songs address the audience and they follow a "storytelling" structure, with both Anne and Katherine explaining how their life was before Henry, how they met him and what they did to deserve their "beheadings", caused by their childlike and immature personalities ("I wouldn't be such a b- if you could get it up!/ Oh oh!/ Here we go!/ Is that what you said?/ And now he's going 'round yelling "OFF WITH HER HEAD!"/ Yeah, I'm pretty sure he means it/ Seems it", "Thomas is there to lend a helping hand/ so sweet, makes sure that I'm ok/ and we hang out loads when the King's away")

"Heart of Stone" - "I Don't Need Your Love": Both songs are ballads, specifically dedicated to their loved ones - Jane to Henry and Catherine to Thomas - and expressing their grief that they can't enjoy their lives with them - Jane because she died from childbirth and Catherine because she's forced to marry a man she doesn't love. However, each one ends on a different note, as Jane's song continues to be sad, even to the end (as, you know, she died), whereas Catherine's ends on a positive note, as she survived and she was finally free to marry the man of her dreams (even though said man turned out to be an asshole).

there’s a big difference/divide, of sorts, of the way people write smut on tumblr and how they write it on ao3. which i love because you get the joys of consuming two different kinds of writing styles and don’t risk the chance of getting sick of smut only being written one way or the other.

now…going off of that, not only are the writing styles different but the attitudes of the people who post on tumblr and who only post on ao3 are literally night and day sometimes. like the vibes on ao3 are never toxic, never deteriorating (at least from what i’ve seen/been a part of). where on tumblr if you write about one villain / fictional fandom / character someone has a problem with you’re going to hear about it for days. or you’ll get the good ol judgement post indirected at you.

long story short: tumblr is like the girl who thinks she’s a cool girl, and has all the qualities to be a cool girl, but is too stuck in her own mind and letting people kill their vibe and confidence to be that cool girl.

and ao3 is the cool girl who is literally moisturized and unbothered, just vibing and eating a fancy charcuterie board. 

+ to the people who have the mindset of ‘you only gain traction when you write smut on here’: while this is slightly true since most people lean towards the fics with smut, don’t let that deter you from writing what you’re not comfortable with or from holding back writing that 6k fic of angst and fluff!

not EVERYONE is only here for smut, and smut is not everything, can it spicen up a fic and make you go insane? absolutely. but it’s not EVERYTHING a fic can be or is intended to be.

so don’t let anyone convince you otherwise, a good angst fic can hit harder than a smut one. everyone likes what they like and prefers to write what they like etc etc, don’t hold yourself back with the ‘i need to write smut for popularity’ agenda some push on here!

Me: I really love and appreciate the fact that Ren never gives any indication that he values Nora for her physical appearance. It’s a nice way to shake up the typical m/f dynamic by having her compliment him rather than the other way around, and it fits into the popular headcanon that Ren is somewhere on the asexual spectrum. It’s also really nice to see that a woman like Nora, who is energetic and bubbly and crazy and SO MUCH TO DEAL WITH, can be valued for those very qualities, not despite them.

Also me: If Ren Doesn’t Tell Nora That She’s Pretty Sometime I Will break Through My Screen And Do It Myself

Something I’ve noticed during my rewatches of the show is that Brooklynn’s…kinda clumsy???

It’s not super obvious, but there’s some moments that I don’t think others get the equivalent of, like when she drops her phone in the gyrospheres, falls over on what are essentially flat surfaces while running from dinosaurs (Indominus in season one, Baryonyxes in season two), and has this whole mini battle with a cup that almost falls down the stairs that anyone else in the group could have probably just grabbed in one swipe without having to toss it around and then fling themselves on it. There’s probably a few more that I’m forgetting, too.

My point is. I. LOVE. How that’s included. Usually when a girl character is clumsy it’s basically her whole personality. “Oh she’s SO clumsy cuz she’s QUIRKY and RELATABLE and not a Mary Sue because she’s FLAWED!!!” She bemoans how clumsy she is. Everyone around her makes a big deal out of it. It’s used repeatedly for comedy and “Oh my, she fell down onto her love interest!!!” I’m SO sick of seeing it. So for it to be included as something so subtle that it’s almost a headcanon is ridiculously refreshing, and actually WORKS as something endearing the way it’s supposed to be because it’s not being hammered into you.

this is from an ask i received. i copy pasted and replied here as a text post since i can’t put “read more” on anon asks and it’s quite long hehehe. to the anon who sent me this, i give you loads of my love, thank you so much for everything !!

i just read earned it and i have a couple things i’d like to say to you if you don’t mind. before i start, i completely understand if you don’t want to share this ask or even read at all which is fair. but if you do decide to read it, i know that one person such as me cannot change the decisions a writer had made such as discontinuing a series but i hope that this allows you some sense of peace or happiness towards your creation and end of earned it. i’m actually writing this is my notes before i send it to you so that’s how you know i truly mean it. buckle up baby!

i’d like to start with this; i just read and finished all the remaining chapters of earned it. i don’t know how to say this without sounding arrogant or cocky which truly isn’t my intention here, i promise so i’ll just say it as is. i swear to ever loving god, i’ve scoured the entirety of tumblr, ao3, fanfiction.net, wattpad, everything and anything, and it still isn’t very often that i find works like these, far and few between dare i say. ive looked through almost everything i could get my hands on to read in the jjk fandom and dear god, do you manage to keep on surprising me. i’ve read majority if not all your works along with following you on ao3 and tumblr, and i must say. i truly am so fucking impressed. completely and absolutely fucking floored if you will. the amount of plot twists and pure emotion you managed to put into this is only something i can dream of ever creating.

i cannot lie, it truly my hearts to think that people gave you so much shit over this to which ended in you deciding to discontinue along with your lack of interest which at least, is understandable unlike the hate. i literally cannot comprehend how people would be unhappy with the outcome so far after reading it since it was beyond fucking magnificent in my eyes. it kept me on my toes the entire time whilst never managing to bore me once and as someone with adhd, thats fucking hard to do, i’ll admit it. props to you. and as much as i want to grovel and beg for crumbs, something, anything to know about how it ends, i know that that will most likely accomplish nothing to both you and i so decided to just say this.

thank you for writing this. thank you for not only writing it but dealing with the experience of unwanted and negative criticism to the point you had to stop and discontinue it whilst also being generous and amazing enough to keep it up so other people could still read it. i really hope your proud of earned it and how it turned out so far, because if i were you, i’d be so bloody fucking proud i wouldn’t know what to do with myself.

my friends often tell me i overstep my boundaries and i really hope i aren’t doing that with this but i just really, truly, wanted to express my genuine appreciation and thanks towards your writing and towards you as a writer that puts out content, not to mention for free!!!!, for people like me. i also don’t want to seem as if i’m glorifying earned above all your other works, because that’s not what i mean. your writing is just… just fucking chefs kiss. sorry, my brains starting to run out of words at this point but oh my god. thank you for letting me experience the experience of earned it even though there was no proper end. i’d rather have that than nothing at all. and maybe i misread this entire thing, maybe you are goddamn proud of your work, which you fuckinf should be considering the pure quality it is. once again, chefs kiss!!

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve reread this and teared up a little bit because you know… I’m so shocked like I really have no idea what I did to receive such a sweet message because I’m just writing silly fanfics when I’m feeling it yknow? Or at least that’s what it seems like because it turns out I have a huge impact on others and I’m able to make people happy like I’ll never EVER get used to that feeling and I mean that in a good way !! Both are discontinued but Earned It was discontinued bcos my dumbass killed Naoya there and he was my favorite so I lost the motivation and it was all my fault SOBBSSS. as for Reckless though, yeah I’d say it was mostly the hate I got for it that demotivated me into continuing it :// but if this ask is meant for Earned It, then yes thank you so much for the kind words as well, though I didn’t really receive hate for it so no worries !!

and aaah anon im…I’m at a loss for words lmao but the part where you said where you would be proud if you wrote it, that’s really…LIKE IDK it just hit me bcos oftentimes I look at something I poured my heart into, but then I’d have days where I’d be like YIKES that wasn’t a good one. its so easy to forget the effort we put into something when we’re affected by external factors. and yeah even though I really don’t want to continue either series anymore, thank you for leaving me the important note of being proud of myself <33 

although the series (earned it) wasn’t really something I’d properly executed and planned for, I do remember being passionate over it and feeling truly excited to update. even if it didn’t end out the way I wanted it to, it’s still something I poured my heart on and that’s magnificent on its own, so I’ll be prouder of myself from now on <33

no worries bb you are not overstepping any boundaries at all !! believe me when I say this ask truly do means a lot to me – more than you’ll ever know. messages like these are what keeps me going, as feedback is important to writers, but most of all it’s the genuine support and sincerity that gets to me.

Attempt at this number two, electric boogaloo, because the first one killed my laptop for half a second and that was long enough for it to eat my entire answer when I had maybe three sentences to go sksks. Have I learned anything from this..? Well.., almost not. I started typing this on Tumblr and then thought better, SO. Here we go.

I was originally going to do this for both of your favorite boys of mine, but considering I was already getting long asf with just Astor's (and you just put a Shay ask in my box this morning, I see you), we will spare the masses and do only one boy, lol.

♠: What sort of fashion to they prefer?

I once tried to maintain that Astor’s fashion choices weren’t complicated, and then I kept putting him in glamors with lots of fancy fantasy belts and clasps, so I’ve just… kind of admitted defeat. Astor mainly prefers some sort of robe ensemble as a mage, or, better yet, gods, just let him wear a pretty dress. Really. He doesn’t often consciously choose to “dress up” to impress anyone, though Eden will flatter him regardless, and he’ll blush about it because actually he’s still a teenager, nevermind that he’s 33 years old. Still, for all of his appreciation of pretty, dangling necklaces and whatnot, he still prefers majority functionality over fashion, but he would certainly prefer at least a tad of the latter.

And Twelve help Eden when he gets it in his head to dress a certain kind of way on purpose. The man is adorably oblivious more often than not, and yet… when he knows, you better watch out. The things he can achieve when he realizes… hey… he IS a pretty boy!!!

♣: Is there anyone who could be considered their greatest enemy?

Astor doesn’t really tend to make or keep enemies… Or they tend to be matters he needs to resolve rather than keep around. Y’know. You’d think you’d usually want to resolve that kind of thing.

But if I had to name names, Astor’s two strongest grudges, grievances… what have you, have probably been Ilberd and Asahi. They’re the two that have managed to actually infuriate him to one degree or another, and that’s not exactly common for Astor. Unfortunately, he’d trusted Ilberd at one point and probably even looked up to him as the Crystal Braves’ commander, and that… all went down the drain rather dramatically and very poorly. And there’s a personal edge to it, too, considering he spent… a few weeks in… “hospitality” is not the word Astor would use. But he spent some time with Ilberd and the Braves after the Banquet. Not exactly willingly. And what he did at the Wall quite frankly sickened Astor. All of those hopes and dreams and faith, and this man had twisted it for his own gain. He’d lied to them. And Astor had very little faith that the man had ever genuinely seen any of his comrades as the “brothers and sisters” he had so often called them. Maybe through his own blinding lens, but certainly not in a way Astor respected.

Asahi did… something similar. Manipulative, using, that kind of thing. The difference was Asahi also… disturbed him, I think. The way he openly took joy in it. The way he goaded them into breaking the charade of peace. It was decidedly unnerving.

And he would’ve been content to never see either of them again, but… can’t win ‘em all.

♦: What qualities would they notice in another person that would drive them away?

Sort of branching off of the last one, the obvious answers are manipulative tendencies, a willingness to take advantage of others, especially if they just seem… too pleasant about it. A great example of something like this was actually the Sage quests, but I won’t really dig into the details because spoilers, but tldr, there was someone who acted like they wanted to help, but they were just… unnervingly pleasant about it. A little too keen to be like, “and everything was happily ever after! Isn’t that lovely?” Might’ve been, if you hadn’t been plotting against them in some way, wouldn’t it?

Of course, Astor tends to be… generously trusting and overall willing to give second chances if there’s any expressed remorse or sense of desire for change, even if it's just a smidgen. He doesn’t generally like giving up on people. Which makes it very, very hard for him when people he cares about won’t let him help. Him and Eden actually got into probably their… first and only, so far, proper argument in Bozja. Both of them are stubborn at the best of times, and Astor’s a healer main through the bone. He promises you will feel better if you actually rest. It is not a burden to him for him to help.

That said, he also… doesn’t really like intervening without consent. A no is a no, as it should be, but he can’t help but still worry. Especially if it's genuinely hurting them. If he trusts someone, he wants them to be able to trust him back. And it’s always rocky when you thought that was the case and it gets tested. Case in point, in Bozja, him and Eden got frustrated enough with each other that they didn’t speak for a few days. It all worked out, thankfully and… probably obviously, these idiots love each other too much, but… it was a rough week or two for them to get through.

♥: Do they find themselves drawn to romance or repelled by it?

Alright, if you know Astor, you’ve probably heard that he can be… a bit a lot oblivious. Until he’s not. Sometimes, he can call it when he sees it. But a lot of the times, it does take… some time and maybe a bit of spelling out for him to realize someone is into him. Dude, he’s just happy you’re happy. He’s a Golden Retriever. Sometimes, the thoughts aren’t all there, okay?

But he absolutely a helpless fucking romantic when he’s in it. Especially about Eden??? Have you met his wife??? His lovely, beautiful, talented, amazing wife? Has he told her today that he loves her? Has he told you, his friend or bystander that happened to ask him about her, that he loves her a lot? Spare yourself getting him too drunk and asking about her because he might not be able to stop himself. He just LOVE his wife. Those sappy romantic posts you see about super cool loyal husbands? Astor. Astor would leave a social event because he misses his wife, Tails. He just misses her a lot.

Really, like, it comes down to just his general joy in others being happy. And when he’s in a relationship and he can be part of that happiness??? Isn’t that the most incredible thing??? Love is so awesome???? So, yeah. He’s… a sap, actually. He’ll melt in your arms. In his wife’s arms. It’s great.

this is definitely gonna be a ramble-y post but i’ll neaten it when i’m done. (edit:  didn’t really but I’m sick of this sitting here already)

I’ve put this under a cut for obvious reasons. There’s more things I didn’t like about this book but I forgot most of the plot immediately after reading it.

Given the usual time skips in Clare’s work you’d think this would be 6 months down the line and Livvy would have been completely forgotten about and is mentioned sporadically to motivate the main characters. 

I’m not really buying the shock of Livvy’s sudden death i would say Clare’s done a job here and she’s certainly tried, but i’m not buying it.

Her treatment of Gay Characters (capitalisation necessary) is bad but so much worse with Alec than any others and i hate reading about her Alec bc of the way she infantilises him. Also has Clare seriously not found any way to solve problems in her own fictional universe without constantly reintroducing the same guy??? (who is also just a bunch of stereotypes of queer men) (Magnus)

you don’t need to use two separate images to describe people moving in the background, it’s fine.

why is Christina using Spanish pet names when we’ve never seen her using Spanish conversationally before? also, ( and this is a very specific thing to to be so worked up about like 4 years after i read it the first time) but why do whatshisname and Christina have to talk in English instead of implying the conversation was in Spanish but had been translated or even mention it at all? (okay, coming back in later to say that she does use Spanish randomly in this book, Clare has a habit of making Latine characters use Spanish randomly to show they’re Latine.

isn’t Mark 20 or something? I’m legitimately confused about these lines.

there’s no need to suddenly start using fancier language for two whole sentences. also you can just say she visited a wax museum or even Just Madame Tussaud’s (which i’m guessing is the place we’re talking about). also: why is all the dialogue in this book so stiff and overly formal? I know they’re in shock and some of them are functionally strangers but it’s still so off from how people normally speak. (I’m willing to excuse the faerie characters because everyone who writes faeries makes them speak super flowery but that’s it)

there’s no break between Mark and Helen’s POV.

 I’m pretty sure than Simon is secular, why is he suddenly sprouting hebrew? (CC makes no effort to show him engaging with judaism in any form and has him Christmas shopping at one point in tmi)

wouldn’t that make it much easier to break in? (this is needlessly pedantic, I know)

A lot of people said that Emma just becomes a way to talk about how amazing Julian is and I’m beginning to see that. She focuses on the sound he makes walking along a hallway way too much. (Also: coming back a week later to add that Julian just gets worse and worse and for a character that we’re supposed to love(?), he has absolutely no redeeming qualities.)

Doesn’t witchlight only light up when a shadowhunter is holding it? I remember that from TID.

The rally with Dearborn feels like an attempt at the bit at the beginning of 1984 where they’re watching the propaganda video and the woman is crying out for big brother. also, there’s no way to write people chanting someone’s name that doesn’t make it feel like mediocre fanfiction, huh? The whole scene is very over the top and not at all like the actual process of radicalisation. 

who thinks like this? Who thinks about themself like this?

The descriptions of the shadowhunters at the funeral are weird. Emma is described as putting on gear then wearing a dress, Christina has a gear jacket over a dress and Ty is in full gear.

she’s not even being subtle about stealing plot points from the tv show, is she?

why does she keep choosing random words to translate into Spanish? It isn’t necessary unless the word also means a specfic type of that word. A vela isn’t a specific type of candle, that’s just the Spanish word for candle. 

Doesn’t Jonathon Shadowhunter creating runes go against tsc canon? No one could make new runes except Clary because of her extra angel blood. (I should know, I read the fucking Shadowhunter codex). (there are more instances of CC creating thing that go against canon but i kinda got bored of making this list after here)

(I know the answer to this one is just CC’s incest fetish but) Why did everybody just let Christina get engaged to her cousin?

I have to say that my suspension of disbelief lasted longer than I thought it would but it ends with Julian killing a Rider with a D&D figurine.

The whole Thule bit feels like it was copy-pasted from ao3 (While we’re on the subject of copied from ao3 “Ragnor Fell lives” is such a “saw it on Tumblr” cop out)

how did the cohort get Jaime? It’s not explained and I wish it was.

Julian sucks. capital-S Sucks. For the guy Emma is facing Losing her Shadowhunter life for and going into exile for, he’s a dick, with emotions he comes off as creepy, over-sexed and obsessed. Without he’s somehow even worse.

Zara calling Cl*ce disgusting and being called wrong for it is such an obvious dig at the people who criticised Clare when she wrote them nearly fucking in a ditch when they thought they were bio siblings. (I’m p sure they’re also adopted siblings and they consider the same man their dad, so it would still be incest.) 

Also, she’s so one-dimensional and every scene with her, especially in the last 1/2 of the book was exactly the same. (emma attacks her but decides to let her go which was a ~mistake~ with consequences (consequences being “we see Zara again”))

It's not even a subtle D*mbl*dore's Army rip-off, huh?

I take back all the things I thought about Clare improving as a writer, chapter 33 makes literally no sense, also cannot do dialogue or consistent characterisation. (how did any of these get published, TMI especially)

Once again, Clare seems to be stealing plot points from the TV show. (Of course there’s going to be some overlap between the show and books even after it diverged from book canon but it’s getting pretty ridiculous at this point, isn’t it?). 

Okay, every woc in this book is here to further the white protagonists’ story (which i guess is the purpose of supporting characters but the white supporting characters do fuck all) And i get they have their own love interests but it was super forced (don’t @ me for this, Kierarktina had potential but it was all rushed in the second half of this book because Clare realised what a cash cow it was)

Diana gets a little tropey (Speaking as a trans person) but her treatment b Vlare and the other characters was okay. I do wish she was allowed more personality than “no one can love me or know me because I’m trans” (it’s stupid and overused) and “helps the Blackthorns and Emma”. (also Clare knows that you don’t stop taking HRT, right? it isn’t a limited course, it’s not Gender-Changing Antibiotics.)

My final thing is that it went on way too long, like, insufferably long. (you’d think long enough to explain some plot holes, but no.)
