Stitchy Sunday!

As predicted, this is a day late, but I was off having a lovely cottage on the lake weekend with my friends followed by a Hobo Johnson concert. We're just going to pretend this is on time.

As promised, today is the final outfit reveal for my Simon-inspired Ren Faire wings!

I didn't get to make any of my other adjustments (like stronger magnets), but I did discover that the magnets are adjustable, meaning I can loosen or tighten the screws they're on to make the wings sit a little higher/lower and ensure the wings aren't tilted. I made them as tight as possible (so they sat as high as possible) and tbh I had no issues with them?? Was this the fix I needed all along?

When we arrived at the fairgrounds, I put the wings on, and as I tightened the straps the rivet popped off the left strap. I thought "Did I just do all this work to break them at the last minute and not be able to wear them?" Yet I was oddly calm, resigned to my fate. I asked Kat to see if she could jerry-rig it just in case. She slipped the disconnected top strap through the adjuster-thingy and... it worked??? We are unsure why this was so successful, but I had NO problems with it all day.

I got lots of comments, complements, and a few picture/video demonstration requests, validating my own belief that the wings are cool as shit. The LARPers were especially impressed. And becuase the fair was expanded this year, including more open space and less crowded walkways, I was even able to walk around with them open for a bit! And I didn't knock anything over inside the booths, either!

I also got my first trinkets from trinket-traders because they liked my wings!

I did not come prepared with my own trinkets as I have never been cool before, so I'm workshopping some ideas for next year, including: polished rocks (dragon horde shinies), painted bottle caps (perhaps with a dragony logo on each one?), sea glass (does require effort of going out and finding the sea glass...), scales (not sure what they'd be made of, though. 3D printed and painted? acrylic? gotta be a simpler solution...). Suggestions welcome.

Bonus: As we watached the joust, I of course started to build a Snowbaz Ren Faire AU based around the semi-scripted joust performances we have each year. I doubt I'll ever write it, but it's fun to think about!

I would like to thank Kat for being my Ladie's Maid every year and helping me get into my corset and, now, wings. Also for driving. I would also like to thank Dropout's D20: A Starstruck Odyssey and Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives for being my companions throughout this project. And of course, thank you to all of my Simon Snow friends for the enthusiasm and encouragement along the way!

Bastille @ the Wiltern (aka How Dan Smith Kissed Me)

Okay friends, strap in, this is gonna be a ride -- partially because I’s super excited, and partially because this is my ONE CHANCE to get revenge for the millions of SPN Con breakdowns I’ve had to read over the years, lol. ((BUT, because I am a nice nice Stitch, I shall put a read more break and you can scroll to the bottom if all you want to read is the kiss part lol.))

To start off, dis me and mah buddy Mikey ( @gnaist​) 

We have known each other since fucking JUNIOR HIGH, and (as I told him last night,) there are v v few people I enjoy enough to tolerate them for over twenty years, let alone still actively want to see them. Dis guy? He dat guy. :) And he also puts up with me with minimal complaining. 

Mikey and I share a birthday week, and we usually do something together (just us) during September to celebrate. This year, he was sweet enough to agree that our Birthday Shenanigans™ should take place at the ONE gig Bastille’s playing in LA -- not because he's a fan, but because I am. #FriendshipGoals

So first, I got all dolled up, with fancy pink and purple hair and Bastille-themed nails:

(That’s 00:15 for their song Quarter Past Midnight, a ∆ , and a letter for each member of the band: Charlie (guitar), Woody (drums), Will (bass), Kyle (keyboards), and Dan (lead singer))

Then, I drove to Mikey’s and gave him his half of our newest tradition: Birthday Socks!! One for me and one for him. 

We had dinner at this awesome patisserie close to Mikey’s awesome new place (shoutout to him for Adulting and buying his first condo!) We also got cake because Birthday Shenanigans™.

The food was super tasty, and the cakes were CHOCOLATE AF (don’t talk to me about my allergies, okay? Is mah BIRTHDAY)

We were running late, so we actually ate in the Lyft (the driver was nice enough to let us, and we were careful not to spill.) We got to the Wiltern at 7pm, JUST as they started letting people in.

Once we got in, we got overpriced (but very tasty) drinkies (Birthday Shenanigans™)

And then Mikey informed me that if we were going to a concert, we were getting merch. (Mikey is v v wise and a literal doctor, so I 100% believe anything he tells me.) We got shirts!

He got a cute Quarter Past Midnight shirt (that was also unusually soft and high quality,) and I got the tie-dye one that’s based off Dan Smith’s actual shirt. I’mma cut up the collar like I do with all my shirts because I hate t-shirt collars.

Then we went inside the actual theatre, which is an Art Deco beauty. They’d taken out all the seats, but the orchestra section has many shallow levels/risers, and people could basically choose which section they wanted to stand in. There was a bar INSIDE the theatre. The lighting was too low for good pics, but you can sorta see in this:

The very front pit and center section were filled with people who hadn’t sauntered in four hours late with chocolate mousse cake -- but there was space off to the right where we could stand and only two people were in front of us. YAY!

Then we waited. And waited. AND WAITED LIKE WTF PEOPLE?? I figure the Wiltern wants to give people time to buy drinks and stuff, but two HOURS???

Finally, about 9pm, the support act came on: a female singer named Fletcher? Anyone heard of her? Anyway, she was really good, had a gorgeous voice -- although we couldn’t understand what she was singing, but that was more because of the mic set up. 

(Das her. V petite and blonde and has a looooot of songs about breakups, lol.)

Once Fletcher finished her set, there was another break while the road crew set up Bastille’s equipment. It was sort of fun to watch, because they’re all English blokes so they’re chatting away in cute accents while they’re doing the setup.

And then, FINALLY, Bastille came on stage. 

And it. 

Was.

WORTH IT.

They went hard from the moment they stepped on stage, and kept the energy up the entire time. 

I cannot fully express to you how electric they are live -- but let’s just say that all the good pictures are Mikey’s because  a) he is the bestest of friends and played cameraman for the evening -- but also b) I was too busy jumping around with Dan to get any actual images of Dan jumping around

He even raced up to the balcony during Flaws, WHILE SINGING and dancing. (I was a bit disappointed he didn’t come by where we were standing, but I was also happy for the balcony peoples because you don’t normally get to interact much in the balcony. Also: ART DECO!!!)

Dan Smith’s voice was PEAK HONEY, and he did all the songs I hoped he would: The Draw, Blame, Quarter Past Midnight...hell, I’ll just show you the set-list, which I got to see after the show:

(The girl holding it was the one who got to keep it -- she was super sweet and a HUGE fan who’d been to tons of concerts but had never gotten a hold of a set-list, so we were all happy she finally got one! :D) 

SIDENOTE: 

During the show, there was this moment in the song Bad Blood where Dan came over to the side of the stage where we were standing. Now, the camera lens makes it seem like we were farther away than we were, like this:

So the band could see our faces, too. So during Bad Blood, Dan’s singing, and I’m singing along with him (like a goober) and I raised my hand like you do when you’re feeling a song...

and he RAISED HIS HAND BACK AND SANG TO ME!

For like, two seconds, but still. It was a MOMENT.

After that, I was floating on Cloud 9 -- so when the concert ended, I was ready to call it a perfect night. But when we went out (the back exit, as it was closer,) Mikey mentioned that because the line had stretched around the far corner of the Wiltern, we’d never gotten a chance to get a pic of the actual marquis. 

So we paused, and I looked back at the theater alley and thought -- huh, I wonder if they might...come out afterwards? Mebbe sign a few things? I has this nice shirt I spent too much money on...mebbe they sign my nice shirt, eh?

So Mikey went to get his pic of the marquis, which came out FABULOUSLY:

And then we settled in to wait at the end of the alley where we thought they might come out. Turns out, we were at the wrong end. So after like, 30 mins of waiting on one end, we (there were like, 20 of us) meandered over to the OTHER end of the alley, where the band’s cars were waiting and the crew was loading out the equipment. 

BTW, the Bastille crew? Super sweet, English and American, and those boys fucking HUSTLED. They were rolling 300-400lb equipment into this semi, basically doing the world’s largest game of Tetris, trying to fit everything in. We was all v v impressed. 

They also brought us water?? Because we’d been waiting for an hour and a half at this point and they felt bad, like...?? AND THEN, they gave us the balloons from the set!!

And all the fans were really nice, and started taking the bunches of balloons apart so that everyone who wanted a balloon could have one (I got a green one, mah favorite color!)

So we’re waiting. And waiting. And WAITING GODDAMN DON’T THEY HAVE CLOCKS IN ENGLAND??

The crew finishes loading, the semi backs out, still we wait. Their manager finally comes out and says that yes they’re coming out, but probably only going to take a couple of group shots with all of us/not sign anything or chat. Why? Because the boys are exhausted. He tells us they’ve flown from England to Sacramento to Vegas to LA in 3 days and played 4 shows, soo... understandable situation. 

EXCEPT for this one fan, who started whining at the manager. “I didn’t wait ALL THIS TIME for some fucking group shot, I want a SELFIE!” “I need Dan to take a pic of me with my SIGN!!” (She kept harping about her sign... is no even a good sign?) 

Then, when it looked for a second like maybe the boys weren’t coming out at all, she snaps “You PROMISED they were coming!!” >:( The tone of this person’s voice, man -- you know the one? Like she’s Sharon at the Walmart and they were out of stock of Pantene Pro-V or some shit and they OWED HER some gotdamn PANTENE and where is the manager?? Ugh.

Anywho, the boys come out. (Except Will. He might have already fallen asleep, IDK lol.) But there was a Dan and a Kyle and a Woody, and they all not ONLY took some group shots, but DID give hugs and stuffs.

(Dan apologizing profusely because someone gave him a shirt for a present and he hadn’t realized that there was an image of a nekkid lady in the art collage on the front, and we were all ladies and he didn’t want us to feel uncomfortable or think he was a misogynist so he covered it up oh god he’s such a cinnamon roll I cannot!)

And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for: THE KISS.

So, during the interminable waiting, (literally, TWO HOURS PLUS, you guys!) several of us started chatting -- during the chat, it came up that I has made a Bastille art. I showed the ladies this pic:

because we were all talking about Dan shaving his head and I was trying to convince them it was actually kinda hot, lol. 

They really liked the art!! :D So much so that they convinced me (after many prods and encouragements) to show the art to Dan. And I was gonna do it, honest! I was super brave and not at all terrified.

But then came the whole they’re too tired thing and I was like, eh, mebbe no? 

And THEN, Superbitch Fan was standing right next to me DEMANDING that Dan take a selfie with her and her sign. (Which he did, like a sweetheart.) Then when he went to turn to me, Superbitch decided she didn’t like the first pic, and PUSHED IN FRONT OF ME AND PAST THE SECURITY BARRIER to demand he take another one.

Which he did, like a sweetheart -- but then turned past me, probably so she couldn’t grab him again. So I figured, lost cause, right?

Wrong. As he turned back, I was holding the phone out, but not quite up, kind of undecided -- and it caught his eye. 

Daniel Campbell Smith GASPED, CLUTCHED HIS HEART

and said “Wow.” Looked at the pic, then back to me, said, “Did you...”

And I held it up and said “Um, yes, I made you...an art?” (Because you know, what are words and why would I, a writer, know how to use them?)

And he just gaped, like HE had no words -- and then leaned in and KISSED ME ON THE CHEEK.

And not a peck, either?? Like a firm, full on “you are amazing and so is your art thing thank you so much” kiss for several seconds??

AND MIKEY GOT THE PIC!

TL;DR:

It may be blurry, but there it is! Immortalized for all time, the moment Daniel Cinnamon Roll Smith liked my artwork SO MUCH he had to kiss me to say thank you. 

And then, dear friends, I died. 

I have, in fact, been writing this diary from my condo on the edge of the Lake of Fire in Hades. Because I’m dead.

♪ The Knights of the Alder - Band AU: Headcanons (part 2) ♪

this is part two of me gushing about my daydream Band AU, this time sharing random headcanons

here's part one btw

Aiden is the lead singer

the other's do background vocals sometimes

I'm not sure if Halea or Talon would be the drummer of the band but I lean towards Halea because I think it would fit her best

they sing duets too. sometimes it's Aiden and Talon, but oftentimes it's Maya singing with Aiden

Maya has a very lovely singing voice

she was too shy to sing in front of people at first but when she got closer with the others and they encouraged her, she felt comfortable enough to do it eventually

the band would also totally make one of those unplugged sessions

Talon loves those sessions especially, because he's a huge fan of acoustic songs

I feel like their band would make very cool and badass music videos

Talon and Aiden write a lot of songs together, later it is mostly love songs

they are dating, but they didn't make it official at first so they kind of had a secret relationship for some time

but some fans were on to something and the two decide to have their fun with that and mess with their "shippers"

like, they never confirm their relationship when asked, but they constantly drop hints and watch people make wild theories

in one music video Aiden wears a Shirt that belongs to Talon (one he was often seen wearing) and there are whole videos of people being like "they're dating and i can proof it"

in an interview someone once asked "Who are you thinking about when singing love songs?" and Aiden answered "Apple pie."

eventually they do confirm their relationship tho

they do have a YouTube channel where they do acoustic covers, just the two of them

speaking of dating, I like to think that at some point at the beginning some fans were like "we're pretty sure some of them are dating but we don't know who is dating who"

I imagine Aiden, Talon, Halea and Maya would be that kind of band that interact with their fans a lot

for a while Halea got her hands on the band's official snapchat account and used it mainly to cause chaos

they also do stuff like reading tweets about themselves (doesn't matter if thirsty ones or hater comments or just opinions and nice comments about them in general) and other "games" like "never have I ever"

one tweet said something along the lines of Talon being the bad boy of the group and Aiden, Halea and Maya burst out laughing because that's just so unrealistic

Talon always tried to keep up the baddie imagine a bit, but was completely outed as a big softie when in one interview he said the two big loves in his life are music and Aiden

their first tour is sold out in no time and honestly they are sorta overwhelmed at the first concert because where do all these people come from?

for Halea, touring is actually the most fun part of being in a band, while Maya prefers studio work, Talon likes that they get to travel around when on tour but he also thinks it's low-key stressful

Halea is also the one who talks a lot during interviews and Maya is doing surprisingly well, too, despite always being anxious over interviews

Talon absolutely hates interviews at first and Aiden is really awkward in them at first but he gets better

when on tour in a new city, the boys like to take some time for sightseeing, dressing up so no one recognizes them. you notice, they like to be sneaky

Halea and Maya regularly have spa days when on tour

for Aiden the music had always been most important, he couldn't care less if they are popular or not as long as he gets to play music and have fun with his friends, because that's what makes him happy

but Aiden is still happy that people love their music just as much as he does

Talon, Maya and Halea would say quite similar things when asked

the four of them often say in interviews that they're more than just a band, they're family, and they are happy to make this incredible journey together

PARIS - PART TWO.

What's that, stress isn't as high as it was before? Ooh, what is this?

Yeah, things have got easier here in the chaotic French capital. It is reassuring that the only stresses are ensuring the person you live with uses the right bins for their waste; speaking in French to a clothes store assistant, and shouting at constantly buffering Wifi whilst trying to watch the RNCM's excellent University Challenge performance back home.

Other inconveniences included a first French lesson where the tutor turned up for a grand total of ten out of a possible ninety minutes of tuition and being promised certain things for no money and having to pay money. Seems to be a bit of a theme here in France.

Deception.

Now, I think that's the rant over. I'll let you know if I think of anything else. Honestly, venting is healthy.

In grander news, I had my first two oboe lessons at the Conservatoire. Full of inspiration they were, willing me to think about commitment to music and expressing everything I desire. I also spent a grey Wednesday afternoon going through my real ambitions for the future (I started typing 'future' and it autocorrected to the 'FU' emoji, I don't know if that's a sign or...), and although most revolved around living in a cute house and going for pastries in Berlin with Cameron, I made the link between this and focussing my oboe playing on getting into orchestras and material that will help me achieve this. It's difficult with long-term ambitions, as they evolve, but to have more ideas than I did before is refreshing.

One of my aims for the last month was to be practising 3 hours a day and making reeds 1 and a half to 2 hours a day everyday. However, in recent days I have more and more realised the importance of keeping stress at bay, as well as good sleep and lifestyle to fuel excellent practice habits. 3 hours may not be a regular achievement right now, but a healthy and happy way of living, including mostly excellent practice, is. So that's nice.

Niceties in the last couple of weeks have included video calling family and Cameron, which has been delightful. It was deeply difficult not being with my boy for his birthday, but with his visit to Paris on the way, I am going to do all I can to provide some extended celebrations.

I have also visited some of Paris' most interesting neighbourhoods. A stroll through the Buttes-Chaumont Park made up one Tuesday afternoon. Last Saturday it was time for Rue Montorgueil, hailed as the best street in Paris by many for its melting pot of traditional French offerings and new innovations. This included Paris' best doughnut at Boneshaker Doughnuts, which, I can see why it has that unofficial title. The balance of lightness and flavour was something truly unrivalled. There is no doubt I will be making a return.

There was also the iconic Tuilleries Garden, full of majestic statues and a vivid rainbow of pristine flowers and greenery. Magnificent.

Being followed by patisserie at Bo & Mie, it was a good day.

Yesterday it was the turn of the 3rd arrondissement, full of adorable cobbled streets, edgy cafés and a divine apple tart from Poilâne Bakery. Simple things done well, what a great thing.

And to top it off, there was a SUCCULENT SHOP. I couldn't bring myself to go in, but I am almost certain I will be in the near future. Also, the plant in my room left by my host is looking a bit worse for wear, so it may have to be out with the old and in with the new!

I met up with some other exchange students to go to a lovely vibraphone/guitar jazz concert on Friday evening. It was nice just to let go; let passing thoughts come and go from my mind; let the music conjure up peaceful emotions, and let myself be inspired. Afterwards we attempted to go to a bar for drinks, and for some reason that didn't really work out so having lost everyone else, one of the students and I took three trams home and that was the end of that.

Yesterday I finally received my box of belongings from my mum, via her friend who lives just outside of Paris. She was lovely enough to come all the way to my apartment and drop it off. Of course, a cup of tea and some macaroons were awaiting as a huge thank you for all the help she has offered before and during this trip.

And today I have been a hermit, confining myself to the apartment while the rain has poured and poured. Mind you, it has brightened up now, just in time for the sunset, but I have got through two whole operas, this blog post and video calling my mum, so good job me.

Now it's time to make myself some terrific tea and get ready for Strictly. Oh yes, it's back.

I got super busy again!!! I know mission 5 will be posted tomorrow but for mission 4 I'll share some of my favorite moments for my groups!! I think I'll try to send links to videos in a separate message because I'm not sure if I actually can but I'll try!!

I actually find it pretty hard to come up with favorite moments lol I'd have to say my favorite seventeen moment was their ode to you tour!! I was actually able to go and I have such fond memories of the concert that I think it has to be my favorite memory of seventeen.

For txt this isn't exactly a moment with a video but my favorite memory with txt is trying to introduce my roommate to them!!! I showed her all of the teasers and music videos and she was very adamant about the fact that she gets a weird vibe from Heuningkai!!! A bit more of a personal memory but still my favorite one!!

With treasure it has to be an episode of their variety show!!! They did an episode where they took care of little kids for a day!! It was cute and I always go back to it if I'm feeling down!!

With verivery is currently minchan's cover he did when he came back after his break!! I also really love their variety show!!! The editing team is SUPER IMPRESSIVE!!! And funny!!!! Like the going seventeen staff is really good too but the veriveriland staff is just as good in a different way!!!

And with onf, I don't remember if I mentioned it or not, but their road to kingdom introduction is one of my favorites along with their it's raining performance!!!

WOAA, i’ve always wanted to go to a seventeen concert, i have heard that they are really really amazing, like they are able to really connect with the public and make them have a great time, and i also want to live an aju nice encore, i just want to go AJU NICE!! infinite times

Is so nice being able to talk with your friends about your favorite groups, i don’t really have any irl that like Kpop, but i do have a friend that used to like it, he always lets me rant about it even if he doesn’t follow the groups, i really love him a lot

I will watch treasure variety show as soon as i havefree time!! i wanted to watch another variety show but some editing kills it for me, for example, i’m not really fond of how Finding SKZ season 2 is edited, and i watched it and ofc was funny, but they edit did take out points for me. I’m looking forward to watch it

The cover is so so good!!! i think i will download it to put it on spotify, i love how soft his voice is, is like, it remainds me of like these velvet like cloth they use in clothes, like not soft in like a lullaby way but in a gentle but firm way, idk if that makes sense. i don’t acually like the original song, but this one is so good.

Maybe i’m wrong but onf seem very tall, are they?? or they just have tall energy?? btw that stage was super cool, and the way they used those kind of courtains was super cool, I feel like the RTK stage has a weird shape (like physically) is kind of like a tunnel, props to them for knowing how to create different ambients with that.

Also!! I finally saw VERIVERY cover of mansae!! it was amazing!! i really like how they kept the original style but added theirs too, the guy who said (sorry for not knowing his name) “wanna walk with me?” killed it.

Okay my favorites moments!! here we go!!

Loona is the first one who comes to me, i think my most emotional one was seeing their debut finally, i remember waiting literally a year for it, and seeing how it got pushed around, and getting to know the girls one by one, and seeing the flavor of every sub unit, they were all so so different so when they realease Hi High, it was like all of that wait and styles came toghether, aside from that their first win is also one of mine favorite moments, kind of bc of the same reasons, and just thinking on how much they waited and how heejin had to wait so much and endure even more (she tought she had been scammed at some point) , it just makes me cry. their recent win is also super cute bc is the first one with haseul!! (she is not the one who is crying) and you can see them carry her around and is adorable. 

That on Loona sentimental moments, now, for amazing stuff i can show you their cover of Cherry Bomb that even got the attention of SM CEO, the song they did for inmortal songs (HIGHLY recommended, it has classy spy vibes) and the cover of sunmi’s full moon they did for halloween, those are all amazing stages.

With seventeen i don’t think i have a particular fave moment, but when the annoucement of their contract renewal came out i got super emotional, i kind of realized there how happy they had made me on this shitty year, it got me suuuper emotional. Like knowng they are still there and i can look forward to them, it was nice. On a light hearted note i adore the “the tag” and “let’s go seventeen” gose episodes, they are really funny and show their personalities really well.

Oh, idk if i told you but lately i been getting into stray kids, and while i don’t have an emotional moment with them their dududu stage on kingdom is pretty crazy, the actor of deadpool became a fan bc of it. One of the things i like about them is how they take stuff and transform them in something that is so laudly and  unapologetically stray kids (wich is kind of funny bc while their music is so strong/ agressive their are one of the softest groups i have seen, not saying bc i like them is just more like, they wouldn’t start a fight with you, ever, i can see other groups getting into fight, like a mix on situation and members personalities (fight as in not a bad fight, more like light wrestling or playful fight) but they are kind of soft in that, they look intimidating but i promise they are not)
