idea where Kenny is desperately trying so hard to confess to Kyle and just say I love you but somehow every time they get interrupted by something or someone and Kenny is a man of very few words and its hard to get alone and eventually Kyle’s on the brink of insanity like “fucking SAY IT KENNY” and violently shakes Kenny so much he doesn’t even hear it clear the first time

Could i request tweek x flirty reader who is always flirting with him, and when he’s in front of his friends please <333
tweek x flirty reader
OF COURSE , 16-17
you had confessed to him publicly Infront of his friends! well you did say you wanted to talk in private bc of how crowded the halls were. like it was soooo crowded, tweek insisted you tell infront of his friends so it wasn't your fault. you sighed at his persistence and suddenly some kids pushed you closer to tweek causing you to pin tweek to the lockers you smirked at the chance and confessed, he literally was red af. earning a bunch of oo's from rest of team craig. after 9238 attempts to try and talk to you so he xouls accept your confession he was pushed by tolkien and finally accepted you.
you being a girlfriend and you being a friend is like two different people, back then when you see tweek you'd just say hi tweek or most times just wave and smiles but now you would say things like "hi handsome" or anything that starts with a hi and ends with a nickname, then kiss his cheeks and proceed to put your hands over his shoulders. everytime you do this every single fucking time he'd blush like crazy and would twitch even more bc of how shy he is. he loves it sm it drives him crazy, its his new coffee
or how you feed him when he's too shaky to hold the spoon or fork himself. he loves it sm, you'd always flirt with him, tease him and such. one time you saw him with team stan, you said hi and almost kissed him on the lips but before your two lips could meet you pulled away and winked at him then leave since you had something to do. team stan was so shook. he has a lovehate relationship with how you treat him, he loves how you treat him but hates how he couldn't do anything back or tease back bc he'd fold first.
onetime though you were playing fight with him and he played chase with you, you looked back not paying attention to whatever was infront of you, then someone turned the corner and tweek pulled you to him holding your waist, you two were really close and that was the most boldest thing tweek did. you blushed at it too, he then quickly let go bc he was nervous.
his friends are so fed up whenever you flirt with him fr, its like seeing kenny but a girl and actually loyal. tweek loves it though, even though sometimes he looks mad, trust me he loves it<3

LOTS of smack talk
Tumblr media
Through the open window of the upstairs bedroom of the Marsh house on Tegridy Farms, a war brewed. The sounds flowing out the window stood in stark contrast to the peaceful night. A silent breeze rustled the budding cannabis plants, a soft movement that seemed to snap in the other direction as a wave of shouts pushed against the calm wind.
“Good to know Stan’s still in last place where he belongs”
“Well at least I’m not Kenny who needs an extra lightweight character to be farther than 6th”
Zooming into the room, a chaotic scene stood in stark contrast to the peaceful night. Various bags of chips scattered Cheeto and Dorito crumbs across the ground to be pulverized into the rug by sock covered feet. A hand pushed aside one of the bags, sending another wave of crumbs onto the ground as they reached for a can of soda.
Kenny lifted the can to his lips. He drank with one hand angled to the side of his face to keep his eyes on the television screen. Finishing the drink with a loud sigh, he returned the drink to the ground to refocus his attention on the game. And on shit talking Stan.
“Sorry I don’t listen to people who still drink Svedka.” He remarked, leaning his shoulder to the side as the cart with Dry Bones drifted around a corner. The trial of the cart sparked orange then purple as the speed boost charged. Dry Bones shot forward once the curve ended and pulled ahead of the NPC Bowser kart.
“That’s rich coming from someone who chugged a week old borg with mountain dew and pinot.” Stan retorted.
I gasped from my spot on the bed, attention breaking slightly to give Kenny a disgusted look, “Ew dude! Why the fuck did you do that?” I asked despite knowing the answer. There’s only one person who would make Kenny do something stupid like that. The one person who hasn’t been invited to the monthly Mario Kart tournaments in years because he’s a stupid idiot bozo.
“Cartman bet me $50 I couldn’t do it without puking-” Kenny’s response shifted tone as a red shell sent his cart flying off the end of the track “HEY WHAT THE FUCK KYLE! I WAS ALMOST WINNING!” He shouted as the perpetrator snickered on the floor.
“Yeah, because 4th place is winning- god dammit!” Kyle cursed as his own cart slipped on a banana peel. My character threw a fist in the air to cheer the successful sabotage.
“I really don’t know why you guys care so much about what place you get,” I mused as my kart pulled across the finish line, the large 1st Place symbol in the corner of my screen announcing the victory, “You’ll never be able to beat a god anyway.” A comical evil laugh boomed from my mouth, my arms raising to the sky as though calling upon the heavens to thank for my continuous win streak.
Butters jumped up from the beanbag to add another 15 points to my total bringing it to a strong 45 after I’d won the two races prior.
“I literally sent three blue shells at you. How the fuck did you still win?” Stan complained as he fell back against the bed, control dangling loosely from the wrist strap wrapped around his hand.
Butters jumped in with a finger raised, “Oh well that’s because they look on the reddit forums during our philosophy class-” I leapt from my spot, rushing to reach Butters before he revealed my secret. My hand covered his mouth as I gave him a pointed ‘don’t you even think about it’ look.
Turning back to the group with a shaky laugh, I waved off what Butters had almost said. “A Mario Kart god never reveals their secrets. Can’t have the mortals trying techniques they can’t master.” I gave Butters a pat on the shoulder, adding a warning squeeze before returning to my remote. Love the guy but he’s going to be the death of me one day, I swear.
“Yeah, yeah” Kenny rolled his eyes, “I was just warming up anyway.” He stretched his arms above his head with an over exaggerated yawn. Grabbing his remote in one hand and a soda can in the other, he readied himself for the final race of the first round.
“Okay? Then get better already? I’m hoping for a little bit of competition this time. Stan might even beat you if you keep racing like shit.” I snapped back at him with a wicked grin. A middle finger pointed my way came from Stan alongside some grumbled comebacks that weren’t loud enough to be heard.
We all readed ourselves for the final tack, hearts racing in sync as the counter ticked down
3…
I hovered my finger over the accelerator. Not yet.
2…
Four fingers simultaneously pushed down on the controller as wheels spun in place on the screen.
1…
Butters gripped the whiteboard marker in his seat, falling victim to the infectious adrenaline of the room.
GO!
And we were off.

Warning: cursing and suggestive themes (not in bajis)
Tumblr media
Hakkia shiba
Does not know what to do😭😭
Should he keep looking at them or look at something else
Obviously his older sister taught him better
But your boobs are giving him a mean glare
He still gets flustered around you despite being together for almost three years
You’re obviously doing it on purpose
Because it makes him turn into the shy teenage boy he was growing up
And because it’s also fun
“Kai, babe why are you staring on my boobs?”
“Huh-what?”
He’s been caught
He was embarrassed and tried to come up with a lie
He started to sweat and turn red
“I wasn’t looking at your um chest, I was….was admiring the fabric. Yeah that’s what I was doing!”
You wanted to laugh
He walked up to you and hesitantly pinched the top of your top with his fingers
“Very good fabric indeed, taka-Chan would really be proud of this”
“Here. You can give it to him then”
“Please don’t take off your shirt”
Baji Keisuke
Now his mom taught him better then this 🤨
But he’s a 15 year old teenage boys
He’s still immature for his age 😭😭
Would literally throwing things at them just to see them bounce off
And he’ll giggle about it too😒
“Keisuke stop throwing shit at my boobs”
“Or what? You gonna throw something at me?”
Cocky little shit
You wanted to strangle him with his own goddamn hair
You glared at him and thought for a moment before smirking
“Imma tell your mom, that’s what I’m gonna do”
You got up and ran out of his bedroom
“Mrs.Baji!”
“Wait no I’m sorry!!
Kazutora Hanemiya
Doesn’t know how to act when starting at them
Spending so much time in prison did not help him
At all
Came out horny and desperate I guess 🤷‍♀️
All your doing is leaning down picking up stuff from off the floor trying to get the house clean
But it ain’t gonna be clean if Kazutora keeps staring at your boobs
He’s supposed to be helping you not staring you down 😒
“Torá, baby. Stop staring at my boobs and get to work the house ain’t gonna clean itself”
“Sorry”
He was sulking while cleaning
Like cmon now
Like you know he wanted to get some but at least make it look like you’re trying 😒
“Torá~”
Almost dropped the poor broom
The way you called his name is 😩
“Umm yes?”
“If you clean properly, I’ll let you get a good look at them. In the bedroom with no shirt or bra. How does that sound?”
He turned red and got to work
House was squeaky clean in the spam of 20 minutes
And of course you gave him his prize for helping you clean
Didn’t leave him hanging one bit 😉
Ken ‘Draken’ Ryuguji
Is respectful about it honestly 😒
Knows your doing it on purpose sometimes
And he just goes along with it
He takes off his shirt Bc he knows you’ll be looking at his pecks
You two are even 🤷‍♀️
But sometimes it catches him off guard
You entered his D&D shop because it’s the only play that has AC in it
The AC in your apartment building broke down
Which result in leaving you in sweating
Your sat in the back of the shop with only a tight ass tank top and your hair up fanning yourself
He walked in and saw you
Your boobs made him take a double take on you
Bc your laying on the couch, sweating( he find that hot 😒) with your hair tired up exposing your neck.
You could feel him glaring on your tits
He never realized how big they were honestly 🙄
“You wanna take a closer look at then Kenny?~”
He goes tenses
“You wanna see my pecks?
“Touché”
But Y’know inui May or may not have walked in on you two making out on the damn couch 😒
Sanzu haruchiyo
Doesn’t really pay attention to them tbh
He only notice when he’s high
He must be on that good shit sometimes because he mistook your breast for two huge watermelons
He hit your boobs and you slapped him
Made him sleep on the couch that night 😒
But when he does stare at them it’s because he’s just horny
You just wanna do something cute with your boyfriend
But you can’t because he’s having a staring contest with you tits while you two have a movie date in his house 😒
“Haru?”
“What?”
“Keep your eyes off my boobs and keep your eyes on the screen”
He did that
But he’s eyes just kept going back down to your chest
Kind of sick of it tbh
“You want me to take of my shirt so you can stare at the closely?”
“Can you?🥺”
Mf no 🤨
Watch the damn movie
You took of your shirt so he can have his damn fun with them 😒
You did not finish the movie
You ended up on the floor when he was done
Hanma shuji
Can’t keep his hand to himself
Seriously it’s a problem
Watching TV
Shuji has his hands inside your bra holding your boobs up
Cooking something?
Oh he’s pinching your nipples 😒
Trying to sleep
Not happening because he has his hand groping your boobs like his personal stress ball
“Shuji please get off me your distracting me for doing my homework”
“I’m not doing anything”
“You’re literally motorboating my damn tits”
He has the audacity to laugh
Little mf 😒
“You like it cmon now”
“I actually do-OW Shuji did you just bite my nipple?!”
‘Hehe~”
You slapped the back of his head
And was pouty the whole day
Request open

wrote another fic. have some heel gentleman’s club, doing gentleman’s club things. like making out and being drunk.
it’s got some angst because the best friends break up.
rated m/nsfw.
it’s on ao3 too, if you have an account, you can read it there
-----
Orange was drunk, that much was obvious. Swaying back and forth, leaning heavily against Chuck as they sat together in the locker room. He passed the half-empty bottle of Kentucky Gentleman back to Chuck, managing to slosh the cheap whiskey over both of their fingers.
“You know that we still have a match tonight, right?” Chuck asked after taking a deep drink from the mouth of the bottle.
Orange shrugged and a part of Chuck registered that their lips were touching the same place on the bottle, a sloppy indirect kiss in some ways. He had tracked the way Orange’s tongue ran over the rim, pink enough in his swimming eyes that he couldn’t help but stare.
“Fuck it.” Orange slurred out, far too late to be a response to Chuck’s question.
He could only laugh, putting the bottle up to Orange’s mouth in a silent question. Orange leaned back in response, head tipping back into Chuck’s lap as his feet came up to rest on the bench. Chuck’s knuckles were white as he fed Kentucky Gentleman to Orange, watching the way his throat bobbed as he drank, swallowing mouthful after mouthful of shitty whiskey.
“You were always drunk during our matches back in the day,” Chuck said, and it sounded fond as he sunk fingers into blond hair, short fingernails rubbing over his scalp in a way that had Orange shivering in his lap,”we were unstoppable.”
They definitely weren’t, but he certainly felt unstoppable with Orange at his side. After what Trent did to them, it was easy to sink back into their old ways. The deal was sweetened with a pliant Orange Cassidy practically purring in his lap.
Trent had gotten a taste for those singles matches, leaving him and Orange behind as he decided to go on his own. It pissed him off and it pissed Orange off, who knew him less than Chuck did, but knew that their friendship meant a hell of a lot to Chuck.
Trent made him want to be good. And, now that he was climbing the singles ranks by himself, Chuck couldn’t find it in himself to be good anymore.
It was easy to bring Orange over to his side, there was no doubt in his mind that Orange would follow without even needing to be coaxed. No matter how hard they tried to be good, they weren’t good people. It had been simmering, beneath the hugs and the ringside antics, the cracks had started to show.
They weren’t the Best Friends, not anymore. Hell, maybe they never were, no matter how Trent still looked at him like they were still fine or some bullshit like that. Or like what they used to have mattered after the dust settled, like he needed Trent or some bullshit like that.
He had the heavy, warm weight of a drunk Orange in his lap, nuzzling up to his crotch, he didn’t need Trent. They were the Gentleman’s Club now, had a new song and everything, pyro and shit. It was badass too, made them look like they were a threat.
And they were a threat. Who knew that plying Orange with alcohol like he used to back in the day would make him as lethal as it used to be, keeping him at a healthy buzz was enough to wake him up.
His fingers skated up Orange’s shirt as he planned his revenge against Trent, sliding over his toned stomach almost absentmindedly. He figured that he couldn’t commit literal, actual murder, but he was planning on hurting him regardless. Trent still hadn’t accepted his challenge though, no matter how many times he offered it.
PAC once hurt someone that Kenny Omega cared about to get him into a fight but...well...Trent really had no one those days. He used to have Orange, he used to have him, but now Chuck and Orange only had each other while Trent was all alone.
A part of him wondered if he would even come if he hurt Orange. If he broke that pretty face, made him bleed. Chuck carded his fingers through Orange’s hair, returning the bottle to his lips yet again. His eyes fluttered behind shut eyelids, lashes quivering. He was flushed and shaking in Chuck’s lap, one eyelid cracking open to look at him with an unfocused blue eye.
“Chuck…” He mumbled when Chuck finally pulled the bottle away from his lips.
Chuck’s eyes tracked a stray droplet, setting the bottle aside to drag his thumb over it. He pressed it against Orange’s lips until he parted them, letting Chuck push it into his mouth. The tongue that ran over his thumb was hot and wet, making him shiver and groan softly.
“Good,” he said, voice soft and breathy, “what’s up, babe?”
A part of him thought that he might tug Orange over, fuck up into that hot little mouth right there in the locker room. He was half-hard from watching him tongue fuck the end of the bottle, and he wasn’t too drunk to get it up like Orange probably was. Probably wouldn’t have been the first time that the AEW locker rooms had seen that sort of action, and Orange was certainly drunk enough to go along with it.
“Y’think Trent misses us?” Orange asked, slurring his words and effectively killing the mood.
Chuck scowled, finger tightening in his hair hard enough to make Orange hiss softly.
“Who cares?” He said, snatching the bottle up again.
He pressed it against Orange’s lips, forcing him to drink more despite the green-ish tinge to his skin. Anything to shut the asshole up, even if it was going to make him sick before their match. They could use it to their advantage if he puked all over the canvas anyway, it would be a hell of a surprise. A gross one, but it could work. Kind of like how Orange used to spit orange juice at people back in the day.
Nah, that’d be a little too gross. His nose wrinkled at the thought of it and he pulled the bottle away from Orange to take a swig of it himself.
The idea of the orange juice, though, that had some merit.
“You ever think about bringing back the juice?” Chuck asked after a few moments, hand moving from Orange’s hair to curl his fingers lightly around his throat. “Nah. It’s a DQ.”
Chuck laughed at that, grinning broadly down at Orange. His thumb stroked over a bruise on the column of his neck, one that he had left a few nights back. Neither of them bothered to hide the marks they left on each other’s skin, they didn’t care enough to be shy about the new angle of their relationship.
“You think I’d let them DQ us? I’d take care of the ref while you do your thing, don’t worry about that.”
Orange seemed to consider it. Either that, or it took a little too long to process from how wasted he was.
“Can I put some vodka in it?” He said and Chuck laughed, squeezing slightly around his throat. “Of course. Just remember to spit it, don’t just suck it all down in the middle of the match.”
They were better off without Trent, he just...got in the way. So it was better, a haze of alcohol and yellow overhead lighting blurring his vision of Orange’s handsome face in his lap. A fuzz of a halo around him, but neither of them were anything close to angels.
Still, he looked like he could’ve been one at some point. But they were never good, and that was the problem with trying to play as anything close to morally upstanding.
Chuck leaned down at the same time Orange moved up, licking the taste of cheap whiskey and cheaper orange juice out of his mouth. It was a filthy kiss, his hand still on Orange’s neck and the sound of people clearing their throats around them. Like their opinions mattered or something, he slipped Orange some extra tongue because of it, pulling him up by the throat to straddle his lap.
He let himself get lost in the kiss and the way Orange’s body felt against his, cupping his hip with the hand that wasn’t still resting on his neck. Orange’s own hands moved over his body, one sliding into his hair, the other on his shoulder.
A startled, familiar gasp cut through the silence of the locker room. Chuck cracked an eye open to look in the flushed face of Trent. He moved his hand down and cupped Orange’s ass, letting a smirk spread across his lips. Orange moaned into his mouth, oblivious to the new person watching them. He coaxed Orange into grinding against him, feeling the beginnings of a very hard-fought erection stirring in Orange’s jeans.
Trent looked like he was at a loss for words, face flushed as he tried to look at anything but the show they were putting on. Chuck tucked his hand in Orange’s back pocket, sliding him down to sit on the bulge at the front of his trousers, grinding up against his ass.
“What do you want?” He said, breaking the kiss.
Orange let out a soft whine, like he was going to tell Chuck exactly what he wanted him to do, until he noticed that Chuck was looking over his shoulder. Instead, he tucked his face into Chuck’s shoulder and began to mouth at his neck, looking to leave some matching bruises. Trent looked more than a little lost, worrying his bottom lip between his teeth, like he had forgotten why he had come to see them.
“You’re...uh. You’re on next, you need to go.” He said, not meeting his eyes. “Guess we’ll have to pick this up later then,” Chuck said in response, drawing his hand back and letting it crack against Orange’s ass, “c’mon, babe, let’s go kick some ass.”
Orange slid out of his lap, tucking himself under Chuck’s arm as he stood. It was mostly to hold himself up, partially for the closeness as he eyed Trent over his shades with a slight sneer on his face.
Standing across from Trent, he could remember what had happened as clear as day. When Trent decided that he had taken things too far, when the match ended and Chuck just kept going.
It hadn’t been his fault. They had gone after Orange, had put him out, made him bleed. It was just retribution, especially when they went after Trent next. Proud and Powerful were ruthless, they couldn’t stand up against them if they just sat to the side and let them do whatever the hell they wanted.
Chuck ended up with the pin, but it didn’t matter. Not when he had caught the sight of Orange’s battered little face, bleeding all over his shirt and jacket. The hours he’d spend trying to get the blood out, they wouldn’t be worth it if Chuck just stood aside and did nothing.
What the fuck was he supposed to do? What kind of best friend would he be if he just let them beat the shit out of Trent and Orange without stopping them?
And, if the only way they were going to respond was through violence? So be it.
He still remembered the way it felt to have Trent pull him off of Ortiz right before his boot made contact with his nose, robbed of the chance to see that violent red splatter everywhere. Robbed of his chance for revenge for Orange, he turned and pushed Trent back.
Chuck knew that he wasn’t fine, but...but seeing Trent across the room? It brought it all back, and he reached for the bottle that they left on the bench to take a deep swig of it, throwing his free arm over Orange’s shoulder and dragging him in even closer.
Orange hung off of him, seemingly uncaring as he lazily reached for the bottle. Chuck let him take it, eyes still on Trent because he really was at a loss for words. A small part of him wanted to forgive Trent, a larger part knew that Trent didn’t think he needed to be forgiven. That Chuck had been the one to fuck up, and that was why they couldn’t say anything.
They could say what the other wanted to hear. Or they could just move on without each other, a part of each other’s lives that were in the past. But Chuck still wanted his revenge, and he frowned, pushing past Trent.
“Chuck, I-” Trent started, cutting himself off when Orange pushed the bottle into his hands. “Save it for when I kick your ass in the ring.” Chuck sneered, shouldering past him.
They left him in the locker room, cradling the now-fully-empty bottle of Kentucky Gentleman. He couldn’t stop to think about consequences or closure or even revenge, although that was always on his mind.
He’d get his revenge. But, first, they had a match to win.

50 Years of Going to Shows, Pt. 9: Jazz in St. Louis
I am in the middle of my fourth year of attending shows at Jazz at the Bistro and it is a great joy to have this formative music back so centrally in my life, to make this my go to music, to think about music in jazz terms.  From that first Johnny Winter blues jam, I’ve always been drawn to virtuosic playing.  Certainly rock and ur-jam band guitarists were a start.  But I saw Norman Blake flat pick amazingly in those early years and later Celtic fiddlers and box players amazed me.  Chamber music but also Irish sessions have an intimate conversational aspect.  But it’s jazz that has it all.  I sensed that in the early 70s and it’s where I’ve come home to now.
I kept my eye on jazz before the Bistro, particularly through Webster University’s wonderful jazz faculty and their performances.  I would return to tried and true recordings, starting with Miles, Monk, and Mingus and Bill Evans at the Village Vanguard.  I knew I couldn’t miss Sonny Rollins when he played UMSL’s performing arts center in 2009 and had even better tickets for a return a few years later that he had to cancel.  He was vital, transforming from a tentative, slightly stooped old man into a flurry of ideas dancing lightly around the stage delighted in the choruses he unfolded for himself and others.  He had a guitarist (not a pianist), a trombone, drums and percussion, and Bob Crenshaw.  Standards and Ellington.  But it was a bit of a one off.
It has taken season packages at Jazz St. Louis for four years now to get the engagement and focus that I now have. It’s fitting that the first one was Bill Charlap and his trio.  That configuration is where I’m glad to start, going back to Oscar Peterson when I was 8.  I’m almost too vociferously anti-musical theater, except jazz musicians have done wonderful things with and burnished the Great American Song Book.  Charlap is one of our key curators.  But these aren’t museum pieces in his hands; they are a dynamic legacy kept alive by use.  There’s taste, drive, invention in tradition.  Just like that Johnny Winter concert in early fall of 1969, there was something I had to have more of.Next up was Vijay Iyer, also in a trio.  A different aesthetic but he worked a jam into Epistrophy, so tradition prevails.  And the piano trio’s elasticity continued to win me over.  The Bad Plus begins the year in St. Louis and we were where the rebooted when Orrin Evans replaced Ethan Iverson.  I saw them once with Iverson, couch toured that opening run of BP2.0, saw them last year and plan to see them next in January.  I started to get them seeing them live, seeing how the compositions work and how they work them.  I think they’re a little warmer and organic with Evans, just as smart and clever but grounded.  I’ve seen Benny Green swing hard and Cyrus Chestnutt do so as well but then throw in a good chunk of French Impressionism.  Emmet Cohen’s band was the foundation for an odd mix of horn players I wanted to see:  Marquis Hill and, for a second time, Melissa Aldana.  The five of them didn’t quite jell, but the Cohen trio is a working band I would see again.  Kenny Barron was a monument of taste and command and Chick Corea was impish, a grand old man of the music in spite of himself.  There were standards but also a glorious exposition on Paco de Luca’s Zyriab, pulling together the Arabic roots of Flamenco.  So, piano trios always with the Bad Plus, Christian Sands at the Sheldon Concert Hall down the street (where I saw Eliane Elias with Marc Johnson do wonderful Brazilian stuff but also some superb jazz evoking Bill Evans), and Connie Han ahead.
Now, we’re Miles Davis’s hometown and folks know that.  The SF Jazz Collective came to the Bistro in 2017 with a program of his music (wide ranging—Tutu and Bitches Brew as well as Nardis for an acoustic ensemble) as well as compositions from band members in the ensemble.  It’s a grand concept—a four horn front line with vibes and rhythm section, with some general stability but it’s morphed over the years.  Everyone composes and arranges and they celebrate a composer each season.  Our band was Sean Jones, David Sanchez, Miguel Zenon, Robin Eubanks, Warren Wolf, Edward Simon, Matt Penniman, and Obed Calvaire.  They return to the Sheldon this year for an In a Silent Way tribute with mostly the same folks—so anther chance to see Sanchez and Zenon who were particularly impressive.  Russell Gunn evoked Miles’s Blackhawk set with Jimmy Cobb holding down the drum chair very capably at age 90.
After piano tours and Milesiana, there are tenors.  So I couch toured a conversation and partial set with Benny Golson—not quite in the room with a legend but a vivid experience.  I am intrigued and enthralled at the playing of Melissa Aldana who crafts vivid lines that fill space quite fully (she has some great trio work) with ideas rather than tone.   Her own quartet had over active drumming from Tommy Crane whereas the Emmet Cohen show pulled her in multiple directions (blusier, mostly) than she quite fit.  She is a star in Artemis, but shares the front line with Anat Cohen and Ingrid Jensen, but she is one star among many.  So I haven’t quite heard the ideal Aldana show.  But I am glad to keep trying.
I’ve been able to see Joshua Redmond twice.  As great as his tenor invention is, his band (with Aaron Goldberg) was what impressed me most.  The way longstanding bands like this (and Branford Marsalis’s with Joey Caldazzaro) think together is very special.  Marsalis and Caldazzaro would magically complete one another’s thoughts and both tenors took great delight in what their bands could do, soloing all the better because of it.  In these bands, but most of them, including the trios, I an struck with just how good drummers have become, really playing music beyond rhythm.  Allison Miller has a Jazz Night in America video on “melodic drumming,” so it was a treat to see her with Artemis, listening so hard but happily to inflect the music so well.  She was almost the one to keep one’s eyes on, except that Anat Cohen exudes such unbridled joy at all times.  Her quartet show was a real highlight of 2018-2019.  I am so glad she and Ben Goldberg are making the clarinet a modern jazz instrument.
Joe Lovano came through with the brilliant and adventurous John Scofield who plays with Phil Lesh and Warren Haynes.  I find myself shying away from jazz guitar preferring the piano.  But that was quite a show as was Scofield again with Jack DeJohnette’s Hudson project which jammed out originals and The Band/Hendrix/Joni Mitchell very well.  DeJohnette has quite a palette of drums and especially cymbals.  We were 4 rows back on his side so we had a literally ringside seat for that magic at the Sheldon.
I have made a point to hear the likes of Marquis Hill, Robert Glasper, Stefon Harris, and, most recently, Terence Blanchard to hear how hip hop is being incorporated into jazz as funk was in my youth and rhythm and blues was in the ‘50s.  My younger generation didn’t bring that music home, so I don’t have that sensibility.  But I would be an old fart in extremis if I didn’t welcome those influences.  That said, I am more intrigued with how SFJAZZ takes the essence of electric Miles into acoustic music than vocoders and loops and reverb.  But, every time these newer shows have lots to delight in, including drummers who move the beat around and are not confined by any strictures.
The music is supposed to grow.  And I get to watch it.
--------------------
This entry is the last one of this 10 part series this Fall celebrating the 50th Anniversary of concert going, marked by my second one from 11/4/69 with Led Zeppelin.  Yes, this is part 9, but, rather like the Beatles releasing Abbey Road before Let It Be (actually, not like those monuments at all), I have already posted a part 10 about the shows I didn’t see.  But, wrapping up with jazz makes a certain amount of sense.

Wanna See Me Rant? Too Bad, It’s Happening
A lot of people don’t like South Park and don’t watch it because of the crude humor. I’ve just been thinking about this a lot, especially in light of the most recent episode, Put It Down, and I feel like it’s more sad of a truth than ever. The crude humor gives it a very bad reputation and, like, I get that? I’m not into the gross jokes – and I’m calling out I Shouldn’t Have Gone Ziplining specifically here, thank you very much, let’s not even get started on the Red Rocket episode, Christ, boys.
But there are so many good points too that often get overlooked because people are so hyperfocused on the gross jokes. Like, first, I hate most crude humor? Adam Sandler’s more recent movies (like Click) are the bane of my existence. I couldn’t even finish watching the new Baywatch movie because it was nothing but poorly done and pointless sex jokes. I firmly believe that comedy is meant to be funny.
And South Park is.
A really good episode that was focused on gross humor was Pee. It was one of my favorite episodes. I thought that it was hysterical – also I totally agreed with Kyle, public pools are gross!
But, like, I always wish that people could go beyond the humor and the gross jokes so, uh, if anyone is interested in knowing why I, personally, think that South Park is a great show check this out?
*Canon gay characters before shows actively tried to be PC and put gay characters in. Garrison, Sparky, Satan, Big Gay Al and Mr. Slave have been staple characters for years. Big Gay Al was first seen in Big Gay Al’s Big Gay Boat Ride which aired September 3, 1997. The entire episode was about how it was A-Okay to be gay. In 1997. We’re in 2017 and Disney still hasn’t had characters that are as openly gay as South Park.
*Timmy Burch. Just – fucking Timmy Burch. He first appeared in The Toothfairy Tats 2000, which aired on April 5, 2000. To this day, Timmy (along with Jimmy Valmer) are two of the most praised handicapped characters that have ever graced animated television. Timmy is in a wheelchair and has a limited vocabulary – most assume that he suffers from cerebral palsy, something that I agree with. Despite this, he is constantly seen playing with the other kids, being involved in the scams that go on, and even having entire episodes based around him. Timmy loves heavy metal rock, is a conniving son of a bitch when he wants to be, and there are never jokes made about how he is less than other kids, which is something that is frequently done in comedies. Timmy never gets a redemption episode because there is no point in the series where he has to prove himself better, or even equal too, the other kids. At the same time, his disability isn’t ignored – the other kids grow very concerned when Father Maxie explains that you have to speak to confess your sins to God, and the episode is spent actively trying to find a way around this for Timmy.
*Kenny McCormick. That is all.
*A better explanation – Kenny McCormick is poor. He is dead ass dirt poor. His family lives in a trailer that, minus the cars and the rats, resembles one of the houses my family used to live in. Representation of every kind matters. South Park frequently pokes fun at the Food Stamps system, citing problems that my family has had to endure. They make fun of how church food drives are run and the food given out – using conversations that are almost verbatim for thoughts I have had, while sitting in line for the food pick-up at a church who goes out of their way to make you feel small, insignificant, and less.
*On Novemeber 16, 2011 we were given the pure relief of an episode called The Poor Kid. This has gone down, for me, as one of my all time favorite episodes of any show that I have watched, ever, period. This episode is perfection. South Park doesn’t shy away from using real life situations in their show. They handle subjects that other series, even live-action shows, refuse to cover. Like how being taken away from your abusive home isn’t always the best, like how the foster care system is falling apart and failing, like how a big brother would do anything to keep their little sister safe and happy. Honestly, if you never watch any other episode of South Park, you should still watch this episode. Cartman is there for what I can only describe as background comedy that no one pays attention too because what is happening with Kenny and his sister is so fucking real and important.
*There are episodes where it’s nothing more than kids being kids, and it gives me life. The Losing Edge from 2005 instantly comes to mind.
*Back to the serious bits – this is a show with countless characters that suffer from various mental afflictions, and those issues are handled in realistic, believable, and understandable ways. Characters that come to mind instantly are Tweek, Stan, Kenny, Cartman, Butters, Linda Stotch, Randy Marsh, Thomas – honestly, the list is seemingly endless. Tweek’s anxieties and paranoia are something that I relate to on a personal level. We see episodes that feature characters who have bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, paranoid schizophrenia, tourette’s syndrome, alcoholism, addictive personalities, hoarding problems, multiple personality disorder, and dementia (this episode was heartbreaking). We cover Asperger’s (another one that hits home for me, personally), suicidal tendencies, child abuse, and other problems that are faced in the real world.
*Eric Cartman is an asshole and that is never shied away from. But it’s also shown that he’s an asshole with no parental guidance, no rules that he’s made to follow at home, and a distinct array of mental problems.
*Jimmy fucking Valmer is a bad-ass on crutches. No line will ever be funnier than “are you going to break both of his legs, PC Principle? Are you really?”
*They make fun of every religion equally. I see a lot of people who refuse to watch the show because it’s “antisemetic” and, uh, yeah, Cartman’s kind of a dick in that regard? But he’s also a ten year old boy in a fictional universe filled with dumbass adults that have never taught him better. Also, something people tend to forget is that one of the creators of the show is actually Jewish. We have seen Catholicism, Judaism, Christianity, Scientology, Buddhism, and several other religions poked fun at.
*Gnomes.
*Chef Goes Nanners is an episode devoted to explaining that, by viewing something only according to race, you’re still being racist. In fact, they tackle racism a lot. The character Token Black is literally introduced in an episode that makes fun of how many shows (most shows) have a singular black character, the token black character, that is meant to make their show diverse and just makes it seem racist and stupid.
I could actually continue to site a fuck ton of other episodes. South Park is one of the longest running shows, ever. It’s on the twenty first season. To this day, I have never seen a show more diverse, more ready and willing to tackle issues and problematic topics, than South Park. It makes me sad that so many people write it off as stupid, immature, and a waste of time because it is so, so much more than that!
Basically I just have a lot of feelings about South Park and am tired of seeing it get shit on so often by people that have literally never watched a single episode of the show.

Your EDM Playlist: Time for Some ‘Action Saxxon – Jungle Odyssey’ With Saxxon and Liondub International
We don’t get to cover a lot of jungle here at Your EDM. It’s not that we don’t like jungle – quite the opposite, actually – but despite its recent resurgence in more mainstream bass music, jungle record labels tend to keep to themselves and are a bit protective of their material. It’s understandable, really, with all the rampant sampling that goes on with tracks from this patriarch of bass music. Jungle beats, breaks, amens and vocals have been sampled so much in other bass music genres and EDM at large that it’s almost impossible to trace the source tracks, even if you know where to look.
Needless to say, we were delighted when Liondub International and one of its most prolific producers, Saxxon, decided to open up access to Your EDM not only for its new jungle releases but also to give the bass music community a much needed bass music history lesson. Saxxon’s new huge album Action Saxxon – Jungle Odyssey came out on September 21 and features 23 Saxxon-packed jungle raves featuring artist collabs from all over the bass music spectrum. AK1200, MC Coppa, Navigator and Blackout Ja are just a few of the artists on this LP which, while the tracks are more recent, is still quite the bass music history lesson in itself. It does commemorate ten years of Liondub, after all.
To give jungle fans old and new even more of a crash course in junglist tings, Your EDM asked Saxxon to come up with a playlist of his top ten jungle tracks of all time, and he did not disappoint. These tracks form the bedrock of jungle and, effectively, all of bass music. Pair that with this new LP and you’ve basically got a junglist PhD! Get ready to skank, rudebwoys.
Die – Special Treat
I will never get sick of this floating bassline and sample combination. One of so many insanely good DJ Die tracks that stand the test of time.
youtube
LTJ Bukem – Music
I thought Logical Progression was really pretentious when it was happening, mainly because of the people who were into “intelligent DnB” had a superiority thing going on, funnily enough, and that didn’t compute in my junglist brain. Take trendiness away, add Danny’s charm and PFMs ingenuity and you got a golden era of sound to enjoy.
youtube
Just Jungle – Pause Tearout
Trouble On Vinyl and boy is it big trouble. Does literally exactly as it says on the tin and these amens are beautifully engineered. Pretty sure you could play this as a new tune today and no one would question it.
youtube
Rebel MC- Champion DJ
Come on admit it! Every DJ loves a track that bigs up the DJ! This one features an amazing vocal flow and tune combo. Full of foundation vibe.
https://youtu.be/Kx_8FEgO7rk
Shy FX ft David Boomah- On The Run
David Boomah graces a lot of early Shy FX numbers so hard to pick one. But this one rocks and I’m fortunate enough to have a Saxxon Dubplate of it. This Style and many other Ebony Records tunes I have great memories of. “Becoming a wolf…”
youtube
Dillinja – Unexplored Terrain
This one is super deep other worldly jungle hard step at it’s best!
youtube
A-Sides – Tear / Big Request
Two stone cold A Sides tearout tracks. Tear with its intense powerful vocal intro building and building to such a pleasing subs and amen drop. Big Request has always sounded so pushed but I absolutely love it just as it is. Big and powerful. Both tunes would go off today.
youtube
Kenny Ken – Everyman
Everyone loves a bit of Kenny and this tune sums up a lot of his respectful tendencies. I have to ask to remix it!
youtube
B-Jam – Dr Funkula (DJ Hype Remix)
Both mixes of this put a very cheeky smile on my face. If only modern melodic jump up had this much charm!
youtube
Zinc – Super Sharp Shooter (both mixes)
If you weren’t spelling out the title and hanging on the big swish sound before the drop were you even raving? Love the extended bassline VIP too!!
