Omg you ship book rhaegon and lucemond before the show? One of the rare few (sorry i just saw your prev ask while browsing those two tags). Because of that i would love to know your thoughts seeing these two ships pop off because of the show (especially lucemond since its top 3 popular ship in hotd fandom). What does it feel like seeing these crack ship before in your head to suddenly gain sm popularity now? Also i really want to know the difference between the book ships and the show ships and why the book ship attracted you initially? Thanks in advance if you ever answer!
hi! no need to apologize πŸ₯° Yeah I shipped both of these pre-show and it was definitely an experience. There were 0 lucemond fics and only 2 rhaegon ones to which I still have them bookmarked out of nostalgia πŸ™ˆ
about the first question: my thoughts upon seeing these two ships pop off are kinda contradictory. For rhaegon, I'm glad people see the potential but due to hotd portrayal lots of the fics are smut (which I have no problem with ofc but I generally prefer plot fics) or some characterizations are entirely based on the show (like Aegon being an airhead and only a toy with 0 ambition /Rhaenyra being manipulative and always in control etc) So i leave a kudo for support and hope I'll find what I'm looking for later.
With lucemond I have a better luck because the community is much bigger, and there's so much variety to choose from. I'm very satisfied with them rising to top 3, and I hope they stay there.
So I'd say overall a mixed of bittersweet and smugness. Trust me, if I had a coin for the amount of times I've been called delulu for shipping these ships pre-show I'd be rich by now. There's also a certain amount of validation that comes with finally being able to actually speak about these pairs without worrying too much that a mob will start throwing you tomatoes. And all fanarts are absolutely a treat. 😊
in regards of the differences between book ships vs the show ships, keep in mind i don't speak for the entire rhaegon/lucemond community and I know a big bunch will even disagree with this:
for lucemond, I admit the show did more for them in certain aspects. Like growing up together, certain camera angle choices etc The big difference is again the characterization - which the show ignores a lot. Basically what hotd does is change traits but keep the results the same. So for example, Aemond in the show is supposed to be this calm/in control guy who is into philosophy and history and is more "suitable" to be king compared to his elder brother, but then you have his canon actions (insulting/challenging/chasing an envoy) coming up and that hardly makes sense. In f&b the antagonism is built more properly and you can see why the characters do what they do.
for rhaegon, we didn't even have any scene of the two together (a crime truly) but lots of people find the actors attractive and others love the people-from-opposite-side that goes on with team black/green. So I'd say show rhaegon is mostly vibes while in the book i found things to grab onto.
In f&b we already get seeds to plant the idea from the moment Aegon is born. Otto constantly brought up the succession order so many times he was fired because of it.
Then there's the entire post-daemyra drama when Rhaneyra is still looking for a husband and Alicent kept suggesting for Aegon to be betrothed to Rhaenyra. We learn from that paragraph that "the two half-siblings had never gotten on well" which let's be for real, already sets for an interesting drama if the marriage was to happen.
We also have Aegon's first refusal of the throne before Cole added preasure. β€œMy sister is the heir, not me. What sort of brother steals his sister’s birthright?” I've seen some people (usually antis) believing that perhaps he never said this and the Septon lied to make him look good. Well, I say that's bs because I always believe the truth in f&b is somewhere in between so this moment definitely happened and given how we knew the two didn't even get along in childhood, I find it a very interesting development.
And of course I can't forget Rhaenyra's iconic death - which is by Aegon's dragon and I can delude myself into getting some crimes of passion β„’ vibes
As for lucemond, I don't really have anything deep to say. πŸ˜…. The fight that costed Aemond his eye + the quote "Prince Lucerys might have been able to outfly his pursuer, [...] but the day was as black as Prince Aemond’s heart" were kinda enough for me to go πŸ‘€ oh he truly hates him..... You see, the fight that made Aemond lose his eye was kinda more brutal; he had 3 kids to deal with, not 5. And they were all so young in comparison. Jace was 6, Luke 5 and Joffrey 3 while Aemond was 10. He was able to beat them all until Lucerys slashed him across the face and I imagine he took such a huge hit on his pride because of it.
When they all have the family dinner years later we're told that "Aemond had become a dangerous swordsman [...] but remained a wild and willful child, hot-tempered and unforgiving." So I thought those scenes + lucerys death kinda serve the obsessed tropeβ„’ which I'm very into
I hope my reply was intelligible β™₯ it's 3 am as I'm writing this so I imagine i may have not explained some stuff properly. Either way let me know and thank you for the ask.

Im not gonna argue with anyone about kaia's acting b/c it isnt the best mostly b/c she comes across as lifeless and unnatural. She def benefits from the fact shes a nepo baby and white. However I will defend her in bottoms, b/c its sometimes more about casting then it is acting. Kaias character is supposed to come across as one dimensional, a sterotypical popular high school girl who everyone aspires to be with she doesnt have any substance outside of her looks which is juxtaposed with this idea that a girl like her wouldnt be interested in somethink like bare knuckle fighting. Her role doesnt require dynamic acting and I would argue someone like zendaya wouldnt work b/c shes to dynamic and would go against the one dimensionality of how character was written. Certainly could this role have gonna to a black woman like laura harrier ( who also cant act) yeah totally but I think kaia works as that character, that doesnt mean shes a great actor . She still struggles with basic things such the inability to convey emotion.
Also austin, I like austin hes very dynamic but Im also not 100 convinced. Hes a great character actor evidenced by dune part 2. He was great in elvis fantastic even. He clearly puts the work in and willing to work on his craft. But after watching bike riders early this year and two episodes masters of air, he was very underwhelming dont know if he has the longevity as a lead ( hopefully he changes my mind b/c he seems like a cool dude and I want him to succeed). Hes struggling mightily with accents and in bikeriders he was overshadowed by jodie comer and tom hardy also even mike faist (for his very small role in bikeriders but hes extremely sensitivity and empathetic in portrayal as an interviewer). His latest stuff he comes across as one note and places too much emphasis on a huskier/smoky voice that at times sound more distracting and hinders the character.
(Though for MOTA im still in wait and see mode cause I havent seen the entire series yet)
Re: Kaia...
Sooo... basically, what you're saying is that they gave her a character role that she basically already embodies (dull, lifeless, etc) because that's how her acting already is in real life? Am I understanding this correctly lol? πŸ˜…
That's fine if you liked her in the "Bottoms" movie (we all have different tastes). I didn't even see the movie (it just didn't look funny at all to me πŸ‘€), but I saw enough clips lol πŸ˜…
Re: Austin....
Interesting take on Austin. πŸ€” I haven't seen him in Dune Part 2 or The Bikeriders yet, so I can't really speak to those films... yet. πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ
But I thought he did great in Elvis. πŸ‘πŸΎ
Maybe he IS a character actor? Nothing wrong with that. There are PLENTY of great character actors in Hollywood, and that's where they thrive. ☺️
I honestly haven't seen much of his work post-Elvis to really judge. πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ I'm excited to see more of his work in this phase of his career. I've only seen clips of him in OUATIH and I thought he was great in that. He's really good at disappearing in roles, which I like. So far, his characters have been diversely DIFFERENT ever since the play he did with Denzel Washington, and I love that. Sometimes, it's hard to imagine I'm watching the same actor lol πŸ˜† πŸ˜‚
Maybe you're so used to seeing Austin in character roles that when he plays someone quieter and less "out there" you are bored lol πŸ˜†
Like I said, I haven't seen him in "The Bikeriders" yet, but it's hard to imagine anyone outshining Tom Hardy, coz Tom is just.... πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ
Prior to "Elvis", I'd only seen Austin in fluff TV shows like "The Carrie Diaries" or "Switched at Birth", etc. So I've seen him in various different roles PRE-Elvis.
So far, I'm enjoying MOTA, and I'm interested in seeing where his career takes him in this era. I'm just glad he's getting to do more of the type of work that he wants to do now in his career. 😊
Re: His voice....
Austin's voice has ALWAYS been deep imo. πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ Deep and slightly raspy.
Here are some old clips....
I think when he got older, it just got a bit huskier.
I really don't think he's putting anything on. Don't pelt me with tomatoes but I actually sort of suspect (I only said SUSPECT) that he kinda ruined his voice a little when singing for Elvis all those years. I'm a singer as well, and it can definitely happen. I had vocal nodules that changed my voice (I could barely speak at one point). I had to go through vocal therapy for many months in fact for it.
My voice is fine now, thankfully lol πŸ˜†, but if you've developed vocal nodules, they can for sure change the quality of your voice. So, he might just have vocal nodules. I don't suggest getting them surgically removed if anyone has them, but vocal rest, along with changing ways in which you vocalize can help diminish them.

I discovered your Cases series recently after I finishedy playthrough of ME1 and 2 and am at Priority Earth on 3. And I am head over heels in love with your portrayal of Vakarian. I love him the way he is in the games of course, but there's something special about the way you write him especially that endears him even more to me. It's like he's still that same little shit from 1 but maintains that maturity through the other two games minus the Reaper-induced trauma and Sidonis' betrayal. And Jane, oh I adore Jane so so much! She's so kind and bouncy and made of sunshine and she has this gravitational pull to her that just makes her so irresistible. Her relationships with not just Garrus but with the other characters as well really shine through her interactions with them. I just really really love the way you write.
First, so sorry it took me so long to reply to this. I have butterflies in my brain and I get so distracted in life! I hope the end of ME3 went well! I've only finished it once and was very careful to get the ending I wanted (and I pretend the bad stuff doesn't actually happen, is it obvious why I write fanfiction and au specifically, lol). I definitely don't think of writing Garrus as more in line with his canon personality as much as I should! He's become my own little version of what Garrus might be with a very different history. I'm glad a little bit of his bratty attitude carries through! And while I have sort of worked in betrayal trauma via his ex who abandoned him, that's no where near as bad as his team being trapped and killed! I'm just ecstatic that you like Garrus as I write him 😊 And au detective Jane is just worlds different than how I'd write canon Shepard (I think, lol...I don't write her much so I can't be 100% sure). Detective Jane has so much less trauma and doesn't need to be a tough soldier. She's also not in charge of much, and I think that level of responsibility and military leader holds makes a huge impact on who they are. So, Detective Jane has room to be a bouncy ray of sunshine who makes people happy. I see that as something innate in Shepard whether in canon or au -- she's someone who wants to make the world a better place. Detective Jane accomplishes that through spreading kindness and happiness. So happy you enjoy the way I write. This comment gave me a huge smile and a big boost of confidence! I'm thrilled that I can share stories with you and that you enjoy them ❀️

I truly love the dynamic between these two as well and it's about to get a whole lot more interesting in the future πŸ‘€. I'm glad you think the portrayal is realistic, that's truly what every writer hopes to achieve and I'm glad I was able to 😊
