Hi, who are you?

I'm the admin behind faraway-sunshine, this Sunny askblog. I go by He/Him pronouns. Currently I'm 17, so a minor, but I'll be 18 in less than a year.

What made you start this blog?

I have some experience running askblogs before, particularly in the Undertale/Deltarune fandom. I was creatively burnt out when I finally played Omori and fell in deep.

I've had some mental health struggles before, though not to Sunny's extent, thank goodness. I'm still on a road to recovery though.

Why is there a date at the bottom of every Sunny post?

I headcanon the events of the game to take place in mid-to-late June, 2000. When I made this blog at the end of July, I thought it'd be fun to have it sync with the real-world clock minus 24 years. It's honestly such a help for my creativity at times, and keeps things moving.

My headcanon also places Sunny in the Eastern Standard time zone, on the east coast of America. I don't live in America, I'm in New Zealand, so sometimes I schedule posts to appear in a better time. Most of the time though I can work without that.

This also means I don't know what it's actually like living through those times, so I do a bunch of research and may take a few liberties. At least Sunny's probably not the most up to date with the times himself!

Does this mean you'll handle X topic in the way they would have back then?

Short answer: It varies.

Long answer: Sometimes. My general rule of thumb is to link it back to experiences and frustrations still present now; for instance, the annoyance of not being taken seriously in therapy or not knowing how to tell the difference between a crush and someone you admire platonically.

Although I'm neurodivergent and LGBTQ, I'm not a racial or cultural minority, so I try not to deal with the negative side of those topics as much due to not wanting to represent it falsely.

This does mean I might use some outdated language at times, such as referring to part of the autistic spectrum as Asperger's or DID as MPD. Those are very brief though, as I don't like putting a huge load on a label.

I also promise not to use any slurs, even those I might reclaim, or to turn discriminatory violence into a major plot point.

Sunny has a life outside the blog, and I have a rough calendar of events that occur to him. There's a few special ones that happened before, such as a couple sleepovers and his first day back at school.

Events are interactive in that you can react to them, but not in that I often have an idea of how things go on that's hard to sway. It's not impossible to change that ending though!

Hi --- From the sound of this ask, you're someone who follows me, and as such I wish you hadn't sent this on anon so that I could reply privately, but here goes.

I assume you are talking about this post? That's the closest thing that I can find in my reblogs to what you're describing, though a lot of what you say about it here isn't actually true.

The post does not call Jewish people white --- it says that the way the Holocaust is presented in mainstream education seems designed to portray Jews as perfect white victims who didn't even fight back, which is obviously not true. (The fact that it's not true, including the white part, is what the Twitter user is pointing out.)

It also never claims that the Holocaust was not overwhelmingly targeting Jews, and I honestly don't know where you got that.

Also, I can't speak to where you went to school, but as a middle class white American, I actually was not taught anything in school about the Herero and Nama genocide, the presence of armed Jewish resistance to the Nazis, the fact that Hitler was inspired by the Armenian genocide, and certainly not that he was inspired by the genocide of indigenous peoples in the United States. (I did in high school learn that the Red Army liberated the camps and that people other than Jews were targeted as well, including Romani and disabled people; I have, however, had friends who were surprised to learn this as adults.)

You seem to think this post was criticizing the way that Jewish people talk about the Holocaust, but unless you think that Jewish people are in charge of all education policy (which would be a weird thing to think?) I don't see how you're getting that at all. The post specifies it's about Holocaust education, which I read as the things people are taught in school.

For what it's worth, I have found that Jewish sources of information about the Holocaust are actually less likely to fall into these traps than mainstream American ones, just speaking from my own experience.

I will say I'm not thrilled with the way the Twitter user makes the leap to saying that this type of education is deliberately meant to further zionism. I think that's a stretch. I reblogged it anyway because I thought it was overall making good points. I might wind up deleting it; I certainly take it seriously when something reads to Jewish people as engaging in anti-Semitic tropes, and if you have more to say about why you think this does that, I truly am happy to listen. I don't really see it that way, but as a goy, I often miss things.

But yeah. I feel like this would have been a better convo to have non-publicly, and I wish you hadn't chosen to go the anonymous route. I don't know what to make of statements like "You seemed like a reasonable person for a long time yk." coming from an anonymous ask. Are we mutuals? Have we interacted? Or are you basing this assessment purely on my online presence? in this screenshot, he uses being a minor as an excuse as well , despite a good deal of the IRLs and DAs it is speaking about also being minors . being a child is not an excuse for being uninformed , nor is it an excuse for fakeclaiming and insulting other minors . didn't provide any proof yet to the contrary , so here is a rentry debunking the paper it linked . nat is also mutuals with a number of IRLs and DAs and has not been open about these views before so he is fakeclaiming beings who he knows actively interact with him . additonally, it is receiving support from its mutuals for this behavior , most notably @/stellxron (edit blog @/starburstedits)

in this comment , mintaka uses her own disabilities as an excuse , even though neither of those are psychosis , the disability that is being discussed here . she also has compared a panic attack and paranoia to delusional attachments in the comments of another post . additionally , she implies that all or most therians are zoophiles , something which is ableist even if she has disabilities . a large deal of therians are autistics who have always felt more connected to animals , and even as an autistic herself , it is still ableist to imply that they are "zoophiles."

Ok, so I just read your Q'tskraal post and I know it was was literally posted yesterday, but I have a question. What if a child was disabled enough that they literally could not complete Q'tskraal? Also, how would the Galra in general react to a disabled child? What about a child that was seriously injured by an adult? And finally, do the Galra have an equivalent of neurodivergence, such as autism or adhd?

So because I'm not sure whether you meant to ask this in terms of physical or mental disability, I'm going to address both while still attempting to keep this answer as short as possible (which, because it's me, is still not especially short rip).

What with the Empire's emphasis on strength as a core cultural value, they've naturally invested a great deal of time and energy into prosthetics, something we see plenty of evidence of in canon—bionic arms for Shiro / Sendak / the Beta Traz Warden, a bionic leg for Ezor (s07), bionic eyes for Sendak (again) / Branko / Ranveig / Janka, and what is seemingly some sort of respiratory apparatus for the Archivist—and considering that this technology is so apparently commonplace in Imperial circles, I imagine that any and all of the Empire's physically disabled children would be offered whatever aids they required long before their Q'tskraal. As I said in my post on albinism/melanism, "Imperial medical science is excellent, and their prosthetics are often superior to the biological counterpart," meaning that there's little reason any child with a disability of this nature would be unable to participate. As for less obviously visible but still physical disabilities, such as chronic pain, I would be inclined to say that the galra, with all their millennia of scientific advancement and quintessence experimentation, have likely found a way to mitigate these conditions if not cure them entirely.

Mental disabilities, however, are quite often more complex and nuanced than their physical counterparts.

In imperial circles, mental health is almost entirely destigmatised; as with everything, there are always exceptions to the rule, but broadly speaking the galra don’t think of poor mental health as any more a show of weakness than, say, a broken limb… it’s simply a medical issue that needs professional treatment and support so that the affected individual may be as happy and healthy as they are able. [...] For things such as PTSD / anxiety / depression / OCD / bipolar / schizophrenia, psychiatric service animals (such as Laika!) are quite common throughout the Empire, and the support and companionship that they provide to their assigned individuals is considered invaluable.

So disabilities of this nature would be taken into account by the organisers of any given Q'tskraal during the planning stage. Said organisers do, of course, ensure they are intimately familiar with which members of the community will be eligible to participate when the time comes, as this ceremony is such an important one, and all pains are taken to ensure that any and all necessary accommodations can be made for all those that might require them (such as designing a Q'tskraal that avoids any individual participant's notable triggers).

Neurodivergence as a whole would, I think, exist in most (if not all) sentient beings across the universe, because brain chemistry is so varied and complex that I fail to see how it could not? To use your examples, the galra likely wouldn't know autsim or adhd by the same names that human do, but I've no doubt they'd have an equivalent! Just as with physical disabilities, every effort would be made to best accommodate any neurodivergent participant's needs as illustrated in the previous paragraph, so that they too may participate on equal footing with the rest of their peers. That being said, these things do exist on a spectrum, and this brings us to the most severe of intellectual disabilities / developmental delays, which I am,,, wary of addressing incorrectly, because I know that infantilisaion is a huge issue faced by the disabled community, so I //obviously// do not wish to add to that in any way. That being said, the purpose of a Q'tskraal is to serve as a marked transition "from the role of protected to protector" which, if an individual's condition were exceedingly severe (ie. the person in question will never mentally progress beyond a certain age, or be able to function independently in any way) is not a role they would be called upon to fulfill. Such a person would instead become known as ghijmiitah—translated from zaalkh to mean "frozen youth" and thought by those who believe in reincarnation to be souls newly born of Sa—remaining a very much loved and cared for dependent throughout their entire lives, and being attended to by the local community as a whole.

As for how imperial citizens would react to a disabled child, I've addressed almost this exact query before—

By virtue of being galra, any given individual would be considered a beloved child of Sa, and there is an inherent and entirely unmatched value in that; the true glory of the Empire is, after all, only as brilliant as the kindness and dignity with which its most vulnerable members are treated.

—and so whether the disability in question is mental or physical, it wouldn't matter! Children are immeasurably precious to the galra, so any half-decent member of the Empire would be nothing less than unfailingly gracious and compassionate, as to do otherwise would be widely viewed as a disgusting breach of etiquette and quite the indictment on the individual's character. To answer your final question, any adult who (deliberately) harmed a child would not only be tried to the fullest extent of the law, but as such a thing goes against the very core values of Imperial culture, they'd also become a social pariah and likely be disowned by their blood-family for their unthinkable actions.

As with anyone, I have my own personal triggers and squicks. I try to incorporate all areas of whump on this blog, but there are a few things I will not post. They include: 

TATs involving the whump of underaged characters 

Whump that is sexual in nature

Mental Illness

Disabilities

Chronic pain/illness

If your submission implies that a character is a child or very young in any way, I'm not going to publish it. Kids in danger is a very touchy subject for me and has the potential to trigger me.

Note on COVID: I know it’s scary out there right now and that TAT can often touch on subjects that may be upsetting to some during these strange times. Every TAT I get dealing with a sick whumpee is tagged with “illness” or “sick” so feel free to blacklist those if you want to avoid possible COVID triggers. I also tag any post that specifically mentions Covid with "covid"
