Really wish authors would realize that their social media “brand” doesn’t have to be them shilling their novels in every post they make.
#this is mostly for indie authors since there's a number I follow for my job but god
#a lot of them complain about social media burnout and how they feel like they're marketing into a void and it's like yeah!
#You're not an ad!
#and like most people don't pick up a book because they came across the author's social media page where they constantly ask people to buy
#their book
#they might stumble across the person's page and like the content and decide to pick it up if it interests them
#like I didn't buy Iron Widow because Xiran constantly posted about her book and why you should buy it
#I bought it because she made interesting content and was knowledgeable about it so I wanted to read something similar
#and like...no one likes ads
#people don't like ads so much that they will pay money to stop ads
#Teasers and cover reveals are fine but GOD it shouldn't be your only content!
#Thank you for listening to my vaguepost
#I'm just so tired of social media and being advertised to
#I have a lot of respect for indie authors cause that shit is hard but Sturgeon's Law is real
#I've had several authors reach out asking how to market better and the first page of their manuscript had tense switches and it's like...
#maybe edit your book before you invest thousands of dollars into self-publishing it?
#idk I'm rambling now Audrey out
