There was a series of chirps and beeps as the glowing died down. Then… a bit of music played before a speaker turned on, “Welcome to your Interactive Redefined Intelligence System, or, IRIS. Please state-”

They all looked at each other, save for Zane, who was searching his database for any ‘IRIS’ robots.

Kai turned to Zane, “Iris? What’s that?”

“I- I do not know.”

“Who made it?”

“I don’t know.”

“Well, why-“

“Is there anything you do know?” Nya sighed, already annoyed at Kai’s questions.

“No,” Zane mumbled.

There was a shift in the metal as IRIS sat up. Sorta. It was still partially covered in scrap.

The speaker started again, still choppy, “Please- -name.”

Kai chimed in again, “Is it broken?”

“Of course it is,” Jay rolled his eyes.

“Zane Julien.”

Cole raised an eyebrow, “What?”

It turned to look at him, “Zane Ju- -meeting you.” Its joints seemed stiff, almost rusted.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, too,” Zane hummed, looking it over, “Your name is Iris?”

The machine creaked as its head turned to look at him and smiled, “Yes. My- -IRIS.”

“I think it’s broken,” Kai mumbled, only for Nya to elbow him.

“Broken?” The gears creaked as the head tilted, “My shell is fully intact.”

Cole peaked over Zane’s shoulder, “What do you do?”

The eyes blinked, “I… do not recall.”

Nya paused, “Excuse me?”

The head turned to smile at her, “Excuse you from what?” Kai rolled his eyes and left.

Zane scanned it again, “Is your programming alright?”

“My programming is-” static cut off the voice.

The eyes flickered red, “Improper startup. Please rest- Booting.” They all looked at each other in confusion, especially when it stood up, “Welcome to your Interactive Redefined Intelligence System, or, IRIS, ZANE JULIEN. What is my directive?”

“We were hoping you could tell us,” Jay sighed.

“Improper formatting. Please restate.”

Zane gently pushed Jay behind him, “What is your purpose?”

“My purpose is-” it paused. “My purpose-”

Jay softened, “Do… you not have one?”

“I- am unaware,” the eyes flickered the same white. It blinked, its body loosening from its stiff stature. Then she looked at them, “Who… are you? Where am I?” Her voice was quieter.

“I’m Zane Julien,” he held out a hand, “And you’re Iris.”

She turned to face him, looking at his hand with confusion. She held out her hand, but didn’t shake his, only copying him.

“This… is going to be an issue,” Nya pinched her brow.

A.N. - I had a free class period so I got to finish this!! I’m actually really excited to do a full multi fic thing and I think it’ll be a good challenge for me. I might do some projects on the side, but this will be my main focus ♥️

INT. PENTHOUSE ELEVATOR ENTRANCE - NIGHT

The entire group, except Lila, has assembled outside the entrance to Rourke’s office. Quinn walks up to the screen, cufflink in hand, as everyone watches expectantly.

QUINN: Okay! Here I go!

She presses the cufflink up to the screen. It flashes red and displays “GENETIC MATCH NOT FOUND.” Craig imitates a “losing horns” sound effect.

ZAHRA: Well. So much for that.

Aleister hesitates for a moment... then steps forward, taking the cufflink from Quinn as Estela crouches by the elevator doors, examining them.

ALEISTER: Perhaps it requires a certain... er... technique?

Estela stands and smacks the screen in frustration as Aleister presses the cufflink to the panel, while placing the palm of his free hand against the screen as well. The screen dings and flashes green, displaying “GENETIC MATCH CONFIRMED. WELCOME.” The elevator doors slide open, and Estela peers at Aleister suspiciously as the rest of the group cheers.

ALEISTER: You see? It merely took some finesse. (to Estela) ...What?

Estela shakes her head and turns away, entering the elevator. One by one, the rest of the group files in, and Sean hits the button labeled “Penthouse.” The doors slide shut and the elevator whisks them rapidly to the top of The Celestial.

When the doors finally open, they reveal a spacious and sparsely decorated room, wall-to-wall windows providing a breathtaking view of the island and the stars above it. Quinn gasps at the sight.

QUINN: I don’t believe it... it’s so beautiful!

MICHELLE: And empty. There’s nothing here.

GRACE: I dunno about you guys, but I don’t see anything like a computer or a phone. This is a dead end.

IAN: There’s gotta be something here. Let’s all split up and look around.

Everyone agrees, and starts wandering around the massive room, searching for something. Estela walks around a large marble pillar in one corner of the room, and finds a set of folders similar to the ones Alyssa found in the shelter’s security office. She flips through them: they have photos of Jake, Diego, Michelle, and Quinn on them. She shoves them into her bag while no one is looking. Alyssa joins Sean, who is staring out the windows at the stars.

ALYSSA: Find anything out there?

SEAN: I dunno. Something about the stars... it bothers me.

ALYSSA (shrugs): They look like normal stars to me.

On the far wall, Ian examines a clear glass table. Estela joins him.

ESTELA: This table. What is it?

IAN: It’s too heavy for glass. Plus, it’s the only piece of furniture up here. There’s gotta be a reason for it.

Estela peers closely at the table.

ESTELA: Wait... I’ve seen something like this before. Aleister! Over here!

Aleister looks up from where he and Grace were talking, and the two of them walk over to the table.

ESTELA: I think this might be a computer. Try that cufflink again.

IAN: A computer?

Aleister nods and pulls out the cufflink once more, making a show of pressing it against the table as he puts the palm of his free hand on the surface at the same time. Estela watches intently, resting a hand on the table and gazing at it. The moment Aleister’s palm and the cufflink both touch the table’s surface, a holographic display activates above the table, startling the three of them.

ESTELA: This is it. We’re in.

The others turn at the sound of the holographic computer’s activation, and crowd around it excitedly. Zahra cracks her knuckles and steps forward.

ZAHRA: I’ve got this.

She interacts with the computer for several moments while the others watch her work. Finally, a pleasant ding sounds from the computer, and a hatch opens in the ceiling, revealing a small, circular drone.

ZAHRA: Got it! And... huh?

She looks up, noticing the drone for the first time. It hovers down to eye level and activates a lens on one side, projecting an image of a blue, holographic woman with a striking resemblance to Lila.

I.R.I.S.: Greetings! I am an Intelligent Reactive Imaging System, colloquially referred to as “I.R.I.S.” How may I assist you today?

Everyone stares at the hologram in shock.

I.R.I.S.: Error. Visual input registering as frozen.

DIEGO: Uh, no... we’re just... uh...

Jake is the first one to snap out of it.

JAKE: Alright, Princess Leia, we’re here lookin’ for a satellite-

I.R.I.S.: Incorrect designation. I will respond to either “I.R.I.S.” or “Intelligent Reactive Imaging-

ALYSSA: Ha! Finally, someone you can’t nickname, Top Gun!

JAKE: This is gonna be a real headache, isn’t it?

DIEGO: Points for the reference, though! She does look just like the hologram from-

IAN: Getting back on topic! I.R.I.S., we’re here looking for a satellite uplink. Can you help us find that?

I.R.I.S.: Certainly! Please input the activation codes to continue.

A new screen appears on the computer display, requiring an input. Ian hands Zahra the paper with the codes on it, and she puts them in. The computer dings.

I.R.I.S.: Codes confirmed! Satellite uplink activated.

SEAN: Great! Can you connect us to the U.S. Coast Guard?

I.R.I.S.: Scanning... Error. All outgoing communications have been locked down. Personal override from Everett A. Rourke required to continue.

Jake throws his arms up in defeat.

JAKE: Well! This was a big fat waste of time!

QUINN: At least we tried, though...

GRACE: Wait a minute! I.R.I.S., are there any vehicles available on the island? Like planes, or boats?

I.R.I.S.: Scanning... Yes. There is a small aircraft currently locked in the hangar at the La Huerta airstrip, flown here several days ago by one Jacob L. McKenzie-

ZAHRA: Any vehicles that haven’t exploded?

I.R.I.S.: A variety of seagoing vessels are also available at the Rourke Marina. Unable to confirm or deny unexploded state.

The group stares at one another.

SEAN: Where is this “Rourke Marina?”

I.R.I.S.: Celestial facility schematics available. Would you like me to provide them?

ALYSSA: Uh... duh?

I.R.I.S.: Error. “Duh” is not a recognized response.

IAN: ...She means “yes.”

I.R.I.S. nods and projects a map of the southwestern portion of the island. A point just south of the Celestial is highlighted.

JAKE: Nice. How far is this from here?

I.R.I.S.: Approximately 6.72 miles.

IAN: That’s not bad. We can walk that.

RAJ: I dunno... I’m not really a hiking kinda guy.

ALYSSA: Me neither. We can take breaks!

SEAN: Anything to get outta here. Let’s do it. Tomorrow, we’re going home.

After a night of smiles and food, the kids wake from their slumber at the Quarr’tel Cottages. As they exit the building, they come across a familiar girl. Taari’s eyes light up as he smiles.

Taari: Zh’en!

Zh’en flinches and sees the group. They wave towards her while she waves back, trembling.

Zh’en: He-hey... guys...

She takes another gaze towards Taari and blushes. She quickly looks the other way and runs. Taari is left confused while the other kids smirk at him. The Vaanti boy turns to the group and pouts.

Taari: We’re just best friends, you guys!

Everyone else: Suuuure...

Taari leaves and goes on ahead towards the Quarr’tel Gym while the others laugh and follow. As they reach the gym, they are reunited with Blight and Vishakha. The two best friends spot the kids.

Blight: Ah, there you are!

Vishakha: Are you guys ready?

Kaitlyn: More than ever!

Reginald: Absolutely!

Elena: Ready to kick some a--

Vishakha: Language, big Sis.

Elena covers her mouth and chuckles. Meanwhile, Taari looks around for Rachel and Meg.

Kaitlyn: Hey, where are your sisters, Vishakha?

Reginald: Yes, and where is Katherine, Blight

Vishakha: Oh, we asked them to go ahead towards Ursidae Town to meet up with my other sister and plan my performance.

Mika: You have a fourth sister?

Vishakha: Yep. Her name is Samantha.

Everyone enters the gym and they are immediately greeted by I.R.I.S. 

I.R.I.S.: Greetings, children, Blight and Princess Vishakha. The L1Ch-qU33n is waiting for you at the battlefield. Please step into the teleportation pod to reach it.

Blight: Thanks, I.R.I.S.

They then enter the pod and are instantly transported to the Quarr’tel Gym battlefield. Zahra is laid back at the audience seats and spots her visitors.

Zahra: You’re here. Terrific.

Zahra makes her way to her side of the battlefield while Blight, Vishakha and Mika take their seats to watch the battle.

Zahra: So... who wants to go first?

After the three battles, Zahra meets with the kids at the center of the battlefield.

Zahra: Well, you guys seem to have improved a lot ever since the Pokélympics.

Taari: Thanks, Miss Zahr--

Zahra quickly puts at Taari with an intimidating look.

Zahra: “Zahra” is fine, squirt! No need for the “Miss”.

Taari trembles and nods while the group chuckles. Zahra composes herself and pulls out four of her badge.

Zahra: For pwning the L1Ch-qU33n in the Quarr’tel Gym, I reward you the Corvus Badge.

Corvus Badge - 3 out of 8 Badges Collected.

The four kids store their badges in their cases. Afterwards, they thank Zahra and shake hands with her, even though she doesn’t want to. Blight, Vishakha and Mika rejoin the kids on the battlefield.

Blight: Alright, I guess it’s time for us to head to Ursid--

Vishakha: Not so fast, Jester!

Blight turns to Vishakha in confusion. 

Blight: What is it, your Highness?

Vishakha: I’ve been wanting to do this ever since I caught you in Orderve City.

Blight: Yeah?

Vishakha points at finger towards Blight and grins in determination.

Vishakha: Let’s battle!

Blight: ......

Vishakha: ......

Blight: ......EH?!?!

Blight VS Vishakha

After the battle between the two best friends, everyone regroups at the Gym entrance. Zahra points northwards.

Zahra: Ursidae Town is that way. The journey will take at least a day if you keep moving but stop once to rest and revitalize.

Blight: Thanks, Zahra.

The two techies fist bump and salute each other before parting, while everyone else say their goodbyes.

Vishakha: See ya soon, Z.

Reginald: See you at Ursidae Town soon.

Mika: Bye!

As the group make their way towards the northern gate, Zahra secretly speaks with I.R.I.S.

Zahra: I.R.I.S.?

I.R.I.S.: Yes, L1Ch-qU33n?

Zahra: Make sure they stay on the path and don’t wander off somewhere dangerous.

I.R.I.S.: Understood.

Or… when Zane finds a strange piece of metal

“And I’m sure you know all about scrap,” Kai shot back.

“Ha ha, real funny, Kai,” Jay huffed, shifting through the debris.

Nya sighed, “Quit bugging him. You know he’s only going to get upset.”

“That’s kinda the point, sis,” Kai shrugged.

Zane had long tuned them out, idly scanning the piles of metal in search for the ‘Thingamabobber attached to a doohickey’, or, more likely, parts of a piston. A small chirp let him know that he found… something. As he walked over the loose scraps, it shifted to reveal a hand.

A metal hand.

He bent down to run more diagnostics. MODEL: Unknown MAKE: Unknown MAIN MATERIAL: Chronosteel and Steel PURPOSE: Unknown

He paused, a chunk of an old toy sliding down as he stepped back. CHRONOSTEEL: Used to sap the elemental powers of others LAST KNOWN CREATOR: Chen

“Whatcha got there, Zane?” Cole chimed from behind him, peaking over his shoulder, “Oh, man, is that a hand? Some old robot?”

“I- Yes. It is.”

Cole crouched next to the protruding metal, poking it, “What’s it do?”

“I’m not sure…”

“Huh?” He glanced up at the Nindroid, “What do you mean?”

“I mean, I do not know their purpose. They’re of an unknown origin.”

Cole hummed, “Weird.”

“What is?”

“You, probably.”

Jay tensed, glaring at Kai, “You know what?”

Nya pinched her brow, “Leave it, please.”

“But he-”

“Yeah, leave it, Jay.”

They continued to bicker in the background, leaving Nya to check out what Zane and Cole were inspecting. “What’s that?”

“We don’t know,” Cole shrugged, “Some random robot, I guess.”

She hummed, tapping the hand. “Well,” she sighed, “seems sturdy. Maybe a prototype for something.”

He started cooling his fingertips, “They’re made of Chronosteel.”

That certainly got their attention, “Chronosteel?” Even Jay and Kai perked up. The last time they dealt with it, they had to deal with faux anacondrai and a deranged father.

Zane let the hand drain a bit of his power, barely enough for him to feel it.

Then the scrap heap started to glow a soft white.

Author’s Note- OMG I FINISHED!! I’ve got Chapter Two in the works rn and I want to post at least one chapter a week, if not more. I’m really excited for this one because I get to do some world building! The Chronosteel will be explained later, dw ♥️ This is the shortest chapter, just to set the scene. ‘MISSION #1: DISMANTLE A BOMB (with Y/N ugh)’ was what Sunghoon wrote in his journal on his way to the city courthouse. Ever since he became a spy, he bought a journal and wrote everything he’d learnt. He hopes that he will have to buy a second one in the future, as his first and current one would be filled with missions he would do.

“What are you writing?” You ask as you drive the van, focusing on the road, thirty seconds away from your destination

“My first mission,” he replies, subtly stuttering.

“First mission is always the most important mission of a spy,” you state, parking the car behind the courthouse, “we’re here. You stay outside and I’ll get the equipment.” You got out of the car and opened the trunk, pulling out the items you two needed. You handed Sunghoon a pair of scissors and went to a wall of the courthouse.

You threw the grappling hook at the rain gutter and backed up to let Sunghoon climb first. He was quick to climb so it took you less than a minute to catch up. You two were standing on the roof, no sign of the bomb lying anywhere.

“The bomb could be tinier than we think, so we have to look carefully,” you informed, walking around. Sunghoon walks over to the chimney and pulls out a pipe bomb, showing it to you. “Or it could be a pipe bomb,” you deadpan.

“We have thirty seconds left until this thing blows up—twenty-nine now,” he mentions, looking at the timer ticking. He pulls out a pair of scissors and busts open the back of the bomb, revealing many colourful wires. “Um,” he says as he scratches his head.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. Beomgyu just taught you this!”

“He did! There was only red and black on the test. This shit has the whole rainbow!”

The bomb beeped faster and faster. You two only had twenty-four seconds left. “It’s the wire connected to the detonator, it’s on the right,” you say. Sunghoon looks at you with confusion. “The blue one! Cut the blue one, you idiot!” You yell. He cuts the blue wire and the timer turns off. You both sigh in relief and eventually glare at Sunghoon with threatening eyes. “I’ll let Gyu know to never pair us together for a mission.”

“Hater.”

A few minutes later...

I.R.I.S.: And now to introduce our next contestant. She is the first place winner of the previous contest that took place in Orderve City. She also happens to be one of Vishakha’s favorites. Introducing Mika and her Espeon!

Mika and her Espeon rush out of the curtains and wave at the audience. With a smile on her face, Mika begins her performance.

Mika: Alright, Espeon, use Psyshock!

Espeon’s eyes glow as she conjures small spheres of psychic-energy and hovers them around the stage, illuminating the contest hall.

Mika: Good! Now, use Signal Beam!

Espeon charges the gem on her forehead and fires a prismatic beam towards the psychic spheres. The spheres puff into pink smoke and covers the entire stage. Mika and Espeon are concealed in the smoke.

Mika: Use Psychic, Espeon!

Espeon’s eyes glow and takes control of the giant smoke using telekinesis. She then spreads the smoke across the floor in the entire hall, like how a smoke machine functions. Mika then places her hand on Espeon’s head and calmly says...

Mika: Last one, use Synchronoise.

Espeon nods and the two take a deep breath. Mika quickly begins to sing with confidence, while Espeon amplifies her voice with her own psychic powers and Synchronoise. The entire crowd marvels at Mika’s soothing yet powerful voice.

Taari: Woah...

Reginald: She’s like...

Elena: Celine Dion...

Reginald: Exactly.

Mika finishes her performance with a last high pitch note and the entire crowd does a standing ovation. Mika and her Espeon smile at the cheering crowd who rains the two with roses.

Blight and the other contestants watch from the curtains.

Blight: Wait... when and where did the crowd get roses?

Kaitlyn: Look! There’s a guy there with a Roserade, using Petal Dance.

Blight: Oh! Makes sense...

The pink smoke clears and Vishakha stands from her throne to comment on Mika’s performance.

Vishakha: I gotta say that you have been killing it with these performances, Mika. First, a giant green owl, and now, a singing concert?! You guys have great talent!

Mika: Thanks a lot, Vishakha.

Mika and her Espeon happily walk out of the stage as I.R.I.S. reappears.

I.R.I.S.: And now to introduce our final contestant. She is the first place winner of the first contest of this year that took place in Metropeal City. She is also one of Vishakha’s favorites. Introducing Kaitlyn and her Serperior!

Serperior slithers from the curtain with Kaitlyn mounting her on the back. Kaitlyn then gets off of Serperior and begins their performance.

Kaitlyn: Right then. Serperior, use Grassy Terrain!

Serperior screeches and a field of plant life start to cover the entire stage. Grass grows from the floor; vines cover the walls and the ceiling; and flowers bloom from all the green.

Kaitlyn: Great! Now, use Leech Seed then Aqua Tail!

Serperior swings her tail and throws a bunch of seeds at the center of the grass field. Small saplings start to grow from where the seeds are thrown. Her tail then glows blue with Water-type energy as she leaps up and slams her tail on the ground. The water then helps the saplings grow into a large tree, with the top reaching the ceiling.

Kaitlyn: Use Leaf Storm, Serperior!

Serperior circles around the tree and a tornado of razor sharp leaves start to whirl around the tree. The leaves then leave lots of cuts across the tree, with some leaves piercing through it. It’s almost as if Serperior is trying to do wood carving.

Kaitlyn: Now, finish it with Aqua Tail!

Serperior’s tail glows blue again as she slams it at the stump of the tree. The sliced parts of the tree then fall of to reveal a giant wooden statue of Kaitlyn and Serperior. The two then do the same pose as the one in the statue.

The crowd clap their hands as the sunlight from the glass ceiling glistens the wooden statue. Kaitlyn and Serperior bow while Vishakha stands from her throne to give her comment.

Vishakha: You really have a thing for carving statues, huh? That’s two in a row, Kaitlyn and you’re rolling. Keep up the amazing work!

Kaitlyn: Thank you so much, Vishakha!

As Kaitlyn returns backstage, Vishakha turns to her sister, Rachel.

Vishakha: She’s got potential, you know? She might even beat me...

Rachel: You think so?

Vishakha: Mhm.

After the performances of all of the contestants, I.R.I.S. calls for an intermission while the results of the judgement are being tallied. 

Recommended Music: Contest Lobby (Pokémon)

Taari, Reginald, Elena and Vishakha reach the back stage and regroups with Kaitlyn, Mika, Blight and Zh’en.

Blight: Yo!

Kaitlyn: Hey, guys!

Mika: Did you enjoy our performances?

Zh’en: H-Hey...

Taari rushes to Zh’en with a smile.

Taari: You were so awesome, Zh’en! I couldn’t stop dancing after what you did!

Zh’en: Hehe... Thanks, Taari...

Taari grins and jumps around, while Zh’en smiles and rubs her head shyly. Everyone else gives them some space to enjoy each other’s company. Reginald walks over at Kaitlyn and Mika. 

Reginald: You guys were phenomenal as always. Your performances get better every time I see a new one!

Kaitlyn: Thanks, Reggie!

Mika: That really means a lot.

The three friends high five and hug each other. Vishakha and Elena approach Blight and Katherine. 

Vishakha: Well if it isn’t the cookieless man.

Blight: Shush...

Elena: Your performance rocks. Pun intended.

Katherine giggles and hugs Blight. Blight looks over at Katherine and hugs her back.

Blight: Well, I had to do my best, since the two people I love the most gave it their all.

Katherine smiles and pecks Blight’s cheek, while Vishakha lightly punches his arm.

Vishakha: Gee. Thanks, Jester.

Katherine: Thank you, Blight. 

Vishakha then approaches Mika and Kaitlyn.

Vishakha: You guys never cease to amaze me.

Kaitlyn: Well, we have to work harder to achieve our dreams.

Mika: We won’t lose no matter what.

Vishakha grins and hugs them both.

Vishakha: Just remember; whatever happens, always have someone who has your back... who keeps you motivated to work harder... who always picks you up when you’re down...

While Kaitlyn and Mika hug her back and smile, Vishakha looks over at her uncle Blight and Elena. Kaitlyn and Mika look over at Taari, Reginald, and at each other. The three smile, knowing that they have such important people in their lives.

A few minutes have passed and the audience returns to their seats in the contest hall, eager to hear the results of the contest. Vishakha and I.R.I.S. take the stage and call upon the top three contestants.

I.R.I.S.: Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. It’s now time for us to announce the top three contestants of Ursidae Town’s Contest.

The auditorium becomes quiet as tension fills it. I.R.I.S. accesses the files regarding the results. She then announces the third place winner.

I.R.I.S.: For third place, we have Mika and her Espeon.

The audience claps at the mention of Mika’s name, as she approaches to receive the Bronze Ribbon. Meanwhile, Taari, Reginald, and Elena clap as Mika enters the stage and receives a Bronze Ribbon. Vishakha approaches her and pins the ribbon.

Vishakha: Congratulations, Mika. Your singing voice was amazing to get you this far.

Mika: Thank you so much, Vishakha.

The two smile at each other and exchange hugs afterwards.

I.R.I.S.: For second place, we have Zh’en and his Sableye!!

The audience cheers loudly at the mention of Zh’en’s name. She happily enters the stage while Taari cheers loudly from his seat. Reginald and Elena smirk at him. Vishakha approaches Zh’en and pins the ribbon.

Vishakha: That was a perfect first performance, Zh’en. You have a bright future ahead of you. Keep it up.

Zh’en: Thank you, Vishakha!

The two exchange hugs with a smile. 

I.R.I.S.: And finally, the moment we’ve been waiting for. For first place, we have… Blight and his Noivern!!

The audience bursts into a deafening cheer. Taari, Reginald and Elena lose their minds and started jumping around. Kaitlyn, Mika and Zh’en clap excitedly while Katherine covers her mouth with her hands and cries tears of joy as Blight runs to the stage. He and Vishakha grin at each other proudly. Vishakha then pins the ribbon on his outfit.

Vishakha: Congratulations, Jester. You really are awesome! I told you that you won’t regret this decision. I saw the thrill in your eyes earlier.

Blight: Heh. Thanks, your Highness. And you’re right; I don’t regret it. It’s the most fun I’ve had all year.

Blight reaches for a handshake but Vishakha shrugs it off. Instead, she pulls her uncle into a tight hug. Blight smiles and hugs her back.

I.R.I.S.: That’s it for Ursidae Town’s Contest. The next contest takes place in Aegis Town. Till next time, ladies and gentlemen! Thank you and good night!

After the contest ends, Kaitlyn is backstage and leans onto a wall. Vishakha enters and sees her.

Vishakha: Hey...

Kaitlyn: Oh, hey, Vishakha...

Even though Kaitlyn tries her best to hide it, Vishakha can still see her sadness.

Vishakha: Kaitlyn... you’re...

Kaitlyn: I know... I know... I lost...

Vishakha pulls Kaitlyn in a comforting embrace and tries to lift her spirits up.

Kaitlyn: I didn’t even get to be in the top three....

Vishakha: Sshh... don’t think about that too much. Just keep moving forward. Failing hurts. I know. I’ve been there. But someone once told me; “One will never know true success without first knowing failure.” And from that moment, I didn’t let my failures break me. Instead, I let them teach me, train me into someone better.

The two girls pull away.

Kaitlyn: You really think that I’ll be as good as you?

Vishakha: Yeah... Heck, maybe you’re even better!

Kaitlyn giggles and smiles.

Kaitlyn: Thank you, Vishakha...

Vishakha: There we go! A smile!

The two pull each other into another hug and rejoin the others.

Recommended Music: Surf and Sand (ES)

After the contest, the kids are hanging around the lobby. Hugs are exchanged as the kids start to congratulate Mika, Kaitlyn and Zh’en.

Reginald: That was truly the best contest I’ve seen so far.

Kaitlyn: I’m so excited for the Grand Festival.

Mika: Me too!

Taari smiles and turns to Zh’en.

Taari: I hope you get to join the Grand Festival, Zh’en!

Zh’en: Yeah... I hope so too.

Zh’en smiles at Taari with confidence. Mika and Kaitlyn nod at each other and approach the Vaanti girl.

Mika: We’ll give you a chance, Zh’en.

Zh’en: Hmm?

Kaitlyn: It means that Mika and I won’t participate in the next contest, since we already have a place in the Grand Festival.

Zh’en: Really?

Mika: Mhm!

Blight: Plus, you have a higher chance of winning first place if the three of us don’t enter.

The kids turn to Blight.

Taari: You’re not participating in the next contest, Sir Blight?

Blight: Nope. I have more pressing matters in Aegis Town. Like speaking with Aleister.

Reginald: My father?

Blight: Yep. He hired me for a special Rourke International project. It’s classified.

Kaitlyn: Do your best and good luck then!

Blight: Thanks.

Vishakha approaches the group.

Vishakha: Come on. We’re having an buffet special in the hotel. You guys must be so hungry.

The stomachs of the kids growl and they laugh at each other. They join up with Blight, Vishakha, Katherine and the rest of the Aryndelle Princesses for a celebration. The group spends the entire night, bonding and partying to their heart content. They eventually go to sleep and get a good night’s rest.

The next day, Taari, Reginald, Kaitlyn and Elena are gathered in front of the Ursidae Gym. They all take a deep breath and nod at each other with determination.

Taari: Ready?

 Reginald: Absolutely.

Kaitlyn: Yeah!

Elena: Let’s do this!

Taari grins and looks at the Gym.

Taari: Here we go!

POKÉMON AUTUMN VERSION CHAPTER 3: Pwning the L1Ch-qU33n - Blight VS Vishakha

Blight is stunned by Vishakha’s challenge.

Blight: B-Battle?! Now?!

Vishakha: That’s right! Besides, it’s been so long since our last battle which was like... six months ago.

Blight sighs.

Blight: Yeah, true. You are my favorite opponent.

Vishakha grins and takes her position in the battlefield.

Vishakha: Then let’s do it!

Blight takes his position as well. I.R.I.S. instructs the two to call out their Pokémon.

I.R.I.S.: Challengers, please unleash your partner Pokémon for this battle.

The two best friends grab their pokéballs and call upon their partners.

Blight: Come out, Mimikyu!

Vishakha: Pikachu, I choose you!

Mimikyu comes out of her pokéball and slowly lands on the battlefield, using her disguise as a parachute. Meanwhile, sparks fly from Pikachu as she quickly lands on the ground after coming out of her pokéball.

I.R.I.S.: Let the battle.... COMMENCE!

As soon as I.R.I.S. starts the match, Vishakha takes the first move.

Vishakha: Alright, Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!

Pikachu charges a large dose of electricity and unleashes it towards Mimikyu.

Pikachu: Pi... ka.... CHU!!!

Blight grins.

Blight: Harness it with Wood Hammer, Mimikyu!

Mimikyu’s wooden tail grows large and glows green as she uses it to block Pikachu’s attack. She then harnesses the attack with her tail, making it glow lime-green this time and combining both Grass-type and Electric-type.

Blight: Now, attack!

Mimikyu leaps and swings her tail horizontally. A slash surging with lime electricity makes its way towards Pikachu.

Vishakha: Use Iron Tail to split it in half!

Pikachu’s tail glows white and she leaps off the ground. While in the air, she swings her tail vertically once the slash reaches her. The slash splits into two smaller slashes and they pass by Pikachu and Vishakha.

Vishakha: Is that all you got, Jester? Pikachu, use Quick Attack!

Like a blur, Pikachu immediately tackles Mimikyu as the Disguise Pokémon is thrown back.

Blight: Let’s make this interesting. Mimikyu, use Mimic!

Mimikyu regains composure and mimics Pikachu’s Quick Attack. With such high agility, the two Pokémon quickly disappear from where they are standing. They are now no longer seen by everyone in the building.

Taari: Where did they go?!

Kaitlyn: I can’t believe they’re THAT fast.

All everyone can see and hear are quick flashes and sounds of sonic booms as Mimikyu and Pikachu collide. After a minute of collisions, Mimikyu and Pikachu eventually appear back in the battlefield, beaten up and exhausted. The two best friends grin at each other.

Blight: Looks like we’re evenly-matched, your Highness.

Vishakha: True... but not for long! Pikachu, use Thunder Punch!

Pikachu clenches her fist and electricity begins to surge through it. She then charges towards Mimikyu.

Blight: Not so fast! Mimikyu, use Shadow Claw!

Mimikyu’s eyes gleam red as her claws from under her disguise come out and begin to glow purple, surging with spectral energy. 

Mimikyu: KYU!!

She then clenches her claws and charges towards Pikachu.

The two Pokémon collide their fists and a burst of electricity and spectral energy spreads throughout the battlefield. Mimikyu and Pikachu are blown away by this. They continue to hold their ground as Blight and Vishakha continue to come up with aggressive strategies. However, after seeing their Pokémon close to their limits, they know that they can only use one more move before it’s all over.

Vishakha: I guess it’s almost over. Right, Jester?

Blight: Suppose so.

The two best friends grin at each other and send out their last command.

Blight: Use Wood Hammer, Mimikyu!

Vishakha: Pikachu, use Iron Tail!

The tails of both Mimikyu and Pikachu start to glow as they leap off the ground and make their way towards each other. They swing their tails at each other and once they collide, a puff of white smoke bursts.

Reginald: Damn it. I can’t see!

Elena: What happened?!

Mika: Who won?!

As the smoke clears, everyone gets to see who won the match. Pikachu is revealed to be exhausted but still standing while Mimikyu is revealed to have fainted and is now lying on the ground.

Blight: WHAT?!

Vishakha: I WON!!

Vishakha cheers as she runs towards Pikachu. She picks her up and hugs her tightly.

Vishakha: We did it, Pikachu!

Pikachu: Pi~ka!

Blight, meanwhile, walks towards Mimikyu and comforts her.

Blight: You were great out there, Mimikyu.

Mimikyu: Kyu...

As they return their Pokémon back to their pokéballs, the two best friends approach each other and shake hands. Soon after, Vishakha smirks.

Blight: What?

Vishakha: Don’t you remember what happens after these battles?

Blight: Oh yeah...

Blight and Vishakha immediately pull out their own notepads and pens. The others seem confused about what’s going on.

Mika: What are you guys doing?

Blight: We’re recording our battle.

Vishakha: We always do this in each of our battles to see who has the most wins so they could rub it in the loser’s face.

After recording, Vishakha smiles.

Vishakha: And would you look at that! I’m only 50 wins away from beating Jester!

Blight: Pffft. You wish.

POKÉMON AUTUMN VERSION CHAPTER 3: Pwning the L1Ch-qU33n - Reginald and Elena VS Zahra

Reginald and Elena look and smile at each other.

Elena: Reginald and I would like to have a tag battle against you.

Zahra becomes intrigued by the request.

Zahra: Interesting... Well, I have seen two prodigies fight against each other, back in the Pokélympics. I would love to see you two working together.

Reginald: We’re happy to oblige.

As the three take their positions in the battlefield, I.R.I.S. acts as referee.

I.R.I.S.: Trainers, please call out your Pokémon.

Reginald, Elena and Zahra throw their pokéballs.

Zahra: Let’s go, Zoroark and Krookodile!

Reginald: Come out, Nidoking!

Elena: I’m counting on you, Lapras.

Krookodile and Nidoking heavily lands on the ground. Zoroark, meanwhile, does a series of front flips before lightly landing on the ground. And lastly, Lapras just immediately comes out on the ground from her ball and roars. Reginald and Zahra quickly look at Elena.

Zahra: ....Are you serious?

Reginald: Are you sure you want to use a Pokémon with such limited mobility in this battlefield?

Elena: Don’t worry. I have a plan.

Reginald: Well, it better work.

I.R.I.S. begins the match.

I.R.I.S.: Let the battle... BEGIN!!

The moment I.R.I.S. starts the match, Elena commences her plan.

Elena: Lapras, use Ice Beam!

Lapras charges a cerulean sphere in her mouth and fires Ice Beam on the ground, turning it into a makeshift ice rink. Reginald quickly understands the situation.

Reginald: I see. You planned on lessening the friction on the ground so that Lapras can move around it.

Elena: Exactly. Now, let’s start our assault. Use Waterfall, Lapras!

Lapras begins to cloacks herself with water and slides through the ice ground. She then boosts her way towards Krookodile, as a water-element spear.

Reginald: Nidoking, use Megahorn!

Nidoking glows lime-green and grows larger as he readies himself. He then uses the ice ground to slide his way towards Zoroark. With the power of Megahorn and the speed of Nidoking, the attack is guaranteed to be, not only super-effective but also super strong.

While Reginald and Elena’s Pokémon charge towards Zahra’s, the Catalyst grins.

Zahra: Don’t think that you guys have it easy. Krookodile, use Aqua Tail!

Krookodile’s tail is cloaked with water as he slams it on the ice ground. The cold temperatures of the ground quickly freezes Krookodile’s Aqua Tail. He then strikes the incoming Lapras, changing her course of attack, as she now makes her way towards Nidoking.

Elena: What the?!

Reginald: Nidoking, watch out!

But with the low friction on the ice ground, it’s difficult for both Pokémon to stop. Eventually, Lapras hits Nidoking with Waterfall when they collided.

Zahra: Now, use Night Daze, Zoroark!

Zoroark crosses his arms and breaks it, releasing a shock wave of Dark energy. The shock wave blows Lapras and Nidoking away. They are thrown and lands on the icy ground, taking a lot of damage.

Reginald: Tch!

Elena: Damn it...

Zahra: That’s the problem in that plan. If your attacks miss or are redirected, it’s tough to stop it.

Reginald and Elena grit their teeth as they come up with something. They suddenly remembered Blight’s words.

[FLASHBACK]

Blight: When in the state of a battle, you have to make sure that you’re unpredictable so that your opponent won’t come up with a countermeasure.

[END OF FLASHBACK]

The two prodigies look at each other with a plan in their heads and grin.

Reginald: Nidoking, use Megahorn! This time on Krookodile.

Zahra shakes her head.

Zahra: Here we go again...

Nidoking, this time, gets on all-fours and boosts his way towards Krookodile using his hands. His horn then grows large and glows lime-green as he makes his way towards his target.

Zahra: Zoroark, use Shadow Ball to stop Nidoking!

Zoroark conjures a spectral sphere and fires it towards Nidoking. Reginald smiles.

Reginald: Now, use Ice Punch to traverse the field!

Nidoking grins and cold air begins to surround his hands. Using Ice Punch, he creates a small ice wall on his right side. Everyone, except Elena, becomes confused as to what Reginald is planning to do. The ice wall then moves and pushes Nidoking, sliding him sidewards in order to avoid the Shadow Ball. Blight stands, surprised and impressed.

Blight: Woah! Traversing on ice with using that kind of strategy? I’ve never seen anything like it.

Zahra: Tch! Keep using Shadow Ball, Zoroark, while you use Snarl, Krookodile!

Krookodile opens his mouth and conjures a sphere of dark energy. Along with Zoroark, they continue to fire dark and spectral spheres towards Nidoking, while the Drill Pokémon continues to outmaneuver the attacks. He is now almost close to Krookodile.

Zahra: Damn it. Slide out of the way, Krookodile!

Krookodile attempts to do what he’s told but was unable to. He looks down to see his feet frozen in place. Everyone looks at Lapras using Ice Beam to immobilize the Intimidation Pokémon.

Nidoking then raises his head, with his horn pointing towards the ceiling. Lapras then fires Ice Beam towards the Megahorn and encases it in ice. With a guaranteed hit on Krookodile, Nidoking no longer creates ice walls to maneuver. Zahra takes this opportunity.

Zahra: Quick! Use Snarl!

Krookodile opens his mouth and conjures a sphere of dark energy. He then tries to fire it to Nidoking at point-blank range, but with fast instincts, Nidoking quickly creates an ice wall between them, using Ice Punch. Krookodile fires and the attack and ice wall collides. An explosion of dark energy and a few shards of shattered ice damage Krookodile. Nidoking, reaching his target, then swings his horn on Krookodile’s side and launches him towards Zoroark. 

The Intimidation Pokémon is then thrown in the sky, making his way towards Zoroark. However, he was only able to hit an illusion. After landing, Krookodile attempts to get up but quickly faints after suffering so much damage. 

Elena: Where’s the real Zoroark?!

Reginald squints his eyes and spots something appearing next to Nidoking.

Reginald: There! Nidoking, watch out!

Zahra: Use Extrasensory!

The real Zoroark shows himself and slams his palm on Nidoking’s chest. He then fires a beam of rainbow-colored Psychic energy and launches the Drill Pokémon towards Lapras. The two collide once again and take a lot of damage. Lapras winces in pain while Nidoking struggles to get up.

Zahra: Use Flamethrower on the ground!

Zoroark breathes fire and releases it on the ground, melting all the ice and giving Lapras and Nidoking no more chances to beat her.

Elena: No!

Reginald: We can’t give up yet...

Zahra: I think you should now... Zoroark, use Night Slash!!

Zoroark’s claws glow purple as he dashes towards the two injured Pokémon.

Reginald: Use the last of your strength to unleash Ice Punch, Nidoking!

Nidoking slams his fist on the ground and creates a dome of ice around the three Pokémon. He eventually faints after one last struggle. Zahra is confused by this.

Zahra: Are you.... trapping them all in?!

Elena smirks.

Elena: Not much. Lapras, use Signal Beam!

Lapras charges a prismatic sphere on her horn and fires it towards Zoroark. The Illusion Fox Pokémon quickly dodges the attack while continuing his way towards Lapras. What he doesn’t know, however, is that the beam wasn’t meant to fired towards him. 

The beam makes its way towards one of the dome’s wall and the latter acts like a mirror, reflecting the beam back towards Zoroak. He quickly notices this and tries to dodge but the attack grazes him. He stops in his tracks to wince in pain, but is given no time because the beam hits another wall and makes its way back towards him. The beam keeps getting reflected and Zoroark is hit by a barrage of reflected beams. Eventually, after taking too much, Zoroark faints and the ice dome melts.

With only Lapras left, I.R.I.S. ends the match.

I.R.I.S.: With Zoroark and Krookodile unable to battle and Lapras being the only Pokémon standing on the challenger’s side, Elena and Reginald wins!

Zahra smiles, impressed by the strategy of the two prodigies. 

Zahra: Now THAT was a battle...

She then approaches her fainted Pokémon to comfort them before returning them to their pokéballs. Meanwhile, Elena approaches Lapras to celebrate with her, and Reginald approaches Nidoking to comfort and congratulate him.

Elena: We did it, Lapras!

Reginald: You were amazing, Nidoking.

Zahra approaches the two trainers and grins.

Zahra: Heh. Amazing battle, you two.

Kaitlyn takes a step towards Zahra.

Kaitlyn: I would like to go.

Zahra: Great. Now, which Pokémon am I gonna use?

Kaitlyn clutches her Mega Bracelet.

Kaitlyn: Actually... I want to try that Special Challenge...

Zahra: Huh? But I thought Reggie is usually the one who asks for that.

Reginald shakes his head and explains.

Reginald: I’ve been giving it a lot of thought ever since the Pokélympics... And I’ve decided to only take on the Special Challenges of my mother and father.

Zahra: So, Aleister and Grace’s Special Challenges only, huh?

Zahra shrugs and walks off towards her place in the battlefield. She motions Kaitlyn to walk towards hers as well. The girl nods and does it so, while the others take their seats. I.R.I.S., acting as referee, instructs the two trainers.

I.R.I.S.: Please proceed with calling out your Pokémon in this Special Mega match.

Kaitlyn and Zahra pull out their respective pokéball and call out their respective partners.

Zahra: Let’s do this, Houndoom!

Kaitlyn: Go, Lucario!

Lucario comes out of his pokéball, flipping, before doing a superhero landing on the ground. Meanwhile, Houndoom pounces from his pokéball and lands on the ground, with flames ready to come out of his snout.

I.R.I.S.: Now, commence Mega Evolution.

Zahra’s wrist device opens up, revealing her Mega Stone. She taps the stone and starts to chant.

Zahra: From the Darkness, rises the Lich Queen and her servant, Cerberus... Houndoom, MEGA EVOLVE!!

Houndoom begins to glow as he undergoes Mega Evolution.

After the process, Houndoom howls while flames engulf around him. On the other hand, Kaitlyn raises her arm and taps her Mega Stone. She then begins to chant.

Kaitlyn: Let your Aura flow as you unleash your true power... Lucario, MEGA EVOLVE!!

Lucario crosses his arms and closes his eyes as he begins to glow and undergo Mega Evolution.

After the process, Lucario roars while blue energy surges through him. With both challengers’ Pokémon Mega Evolved, I.R.I.S. nods.

I.R.I.S.: Let the battle.... BEGIN!

The moment I.R.I.S. begins the match, Kaitlyn takes action.

Kaitlyn: Lucario, use Double Team and Bone Rush!

Lucario duplicates himself into multiple clones and they all conjure a glowing blue bone staff. They then rush towards Houndoom.

Zahra: Don’t think that just because you have the numbers. Houndoom, use Dark Pulse!

Houndoom fires a beam of purple rings filled with Dark energy towards one of Lucario’s clones. After the clone disappears, Houndoom picks up the fallen bone staff with his snout.

Zahra: Now, use Fire Fang!

Houndoom’s fangs bite through the bone while being engulfed in flames. Eventually, the bone is lit on fire and Houndoom readies himself. Lucario and his clones begin to surround the Dark Pokémon.

Kaitlyn: Attack!

Lucario and his clones charge at Houndoom, but he and Zahra grin.

Zahra: Sweep them off!

Houndoom bites one of the ends of the burning bone staff and swings it into a circle, creating a flame ring. The ring expands and hits most of the Lucario clones. The real Lucario and his remaining clones were able to leap towards Houndoom, avoiding the ring. They then ready their bone staffs as they close in on Houndoom.

Kaitlyn: Use Water Pulse!

Before they could attack, Lucario and his clones uses Water Pulse to imbue their staffs with Water-type to further increase the damage towards Houndoom. However...

Zahra: Quick! Use Shadow Ball!

Houndoom looks upwards and opens his mouth. The bone staff is still placed on his lower jaw as he conjures Shadow Ball. He then uses his upper fangs to bite the sphere, harnessing its powers. Afterwards, he bites the bone staff again, imbuing it with Shadow energy, turning the flames purple.

Zahra: Now!

Houndoom throws the bone staff upwards and proceeds to dodge some of the Lucario clones attempting to strike him. He was able to take a few hits but still stands. He then catches the falling bone staff with his tail, wrapping one of its ends. Houndoom parries and blocks every other Lucario clone trying to attack him. Some attacks, however, were still able to hit Houndoomm but he stands strong. And when he spots the real Lucario landing towards him, he does a back flip. Because of this, the flaming bone staff skids on the ground, creating a slash of shadow-imbued fire that makes its way towards the real Lucario. The Aura Pokémon tries to block the attack with his bone staff but it was too strong. His staff splits in two and he is pushed back while receiving super-effective damage.

Kaitlyn: Lucario!

Lucario still manages to stand up after taking that much damage from Houndoom. With both Pokémon at low health, their trainers come up with a plan.

Zahra: Looks like it’s time to end this. Houndoom, use Shadow Ball and Fire Fang again.

Houndoom conjures another Shadow Ball and imbues it with Fire energy using Fire Fang. Blight is surprised by what Zahra is planning.

Blight’s Thoughts: Don’t tell me... Combo #13 - Stygian Spheres...

Meanwhile, Kaitlyn grins at Zahra’s challenge to her.

Kaitlyn: Fine. Lucario, let’s finish this with Aura Sphere.

Lucario puts his hands together and creates a blue ball of energy in between them. He keeps charging his attack, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. After a few tense seconds, the two trainers shout.

Zahra: NOW!!

Kaitlyn: NOW!!

Lucario and Houndoom unleash their spheres towards each other. The moment the two attacks collide, they explode and a large dark purple smoke is formed, obstructing everyone’s view. Zahra grins at the situation.

Zahra: Sorry to tell you this, li’l girl. But this is Houndoom’s combination #13, Stygian Spheres. Since he’s the Cerberus of the Lich Queen, having three heads... he fires two more at a very fast pace.

Houndoom quickly clears the smoke with two more spheres of shadowy flames making their towards Lucario. However, the moment Lucario appears in view, he is seen holding a bone staff and in a batting stance. Everyone else, including Zahra, are startled.

Zahra: What?!

Kaitlyn grins and explains.

Kaitlyn: Knowing that you’re good friends with Sir Blight and you’re really good with combination moves means that you have to come up with something like this. Now, it’s our turn to shine. Lucario, use Bone Rush in our own improvised combo move, Burning Homerun!

Lucario grins as well. The second the two Stygian Spheres are inches away from him, the Aura Pokémon quickly swings his staff, sending the spheres back to Houndoom. With the Stygian Spheres moving at very high speeds, Houndoom was unable to dodge it in time. He was struck by two very strong attacks.

Zahra: ...Heh...

Zahra smiles, impressed by Kaitlyn’s smart thinking, but then quickly turns to Blight in a rage.

Zahra: Blight, you bitch! You better update your Combo List cuz your combos are now getting easily countered!

Blight smiles shyly while everyone else laughs. Zahra approaches Houndoom. who has now reverted to his regular form, and comforts him, before returning him into his pokéball. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn approaches Lucario, who has also  reverted to his regular form, and celebrates with him, before returning him into his pokéball.

Zahra approaches Kaitlyn and grins.

Zahra: Heh. Good work, li’l girl.
