Enhancing Security and Style with Id Card Ribbon
Introduction
In today's digital world, identification plays a crucial role in various aspects of life. Whether it's for access control, employee identification, or event management, ID cards are widely used. To enhance the functionality and appearance of ID cards, the use of ID card ribbons has become increasingly popular. This article will delve into the world of ID card ribbons, exploring their benefits, types, installation methods, maintenance, and the role they play in custom lanyard printing.
What is an ID Card Ribbon?
An ID card ribbon is a consumable component used in ID card printers to produce high-quality, durable, and visually appealing ID cards. It consists of color panels, overlay panels, and sometimes specialized panels for additional security features. When the ID card is printed, the ribbon transfers the necessary colors and protective overlays onto the card surface, resulting in a professional-looking and long-lasting ID card.
Benefits of Using ID Card Ribbons
Using ID card ribbons offers several benefits, including:
Enhanced Visual Appeal: ID card ribbons allow for vibrant and accurate color reproduction, making ID cards visually appealing and easily distinguishable.
Increased Durability: The protective overlays applied by the ribbons protect the ID cards from scratches, fading, and general wear and tear, ensuring their longevity.
Customization Options: ID card ribbons come in a variety of colors, enabling organizations to match their brand colors or create visually distinct identification solutions.
Security Features: Some ID card ribbons incorporate specialized panels that add security features to the ID cards, such as holographic overlays or UV printing, making them more difficult to counterfeit.
Types of ID Card Ribbons
There are different types of ID card ribbons available, each catering to specific printing requirements. The most common types include:
Full-Color Ribbons: These ribbons allow for high-quality, full-color printing, ideal for producing visually appealing ID cards with photographs and detailed graphics.
Monochrome Ribbons: Monochrome ribbons are used for single-color printing, often in black or grayscale. They are cost-effective and suitable for simple ID card designs.
Resin Ribbons: Resin ribbons are used for printing on plastic or synthetic ID cards. They offer excellent durability, chemical resistance, and UV resistance, making them suitable for applications where cards may be exposed to harsh environments.
Overlay Ribbons: Overlay ribbons provide an additional protective layer to the ID cards, ensuring their longevity and resistance to scratches and fading.
Choosing the Right ID Card Ribbon
When choosing an ID card ribbon, several factors should be considered:
Printer Compatibility: Ensure that the ribbon is compatible with your ID card printer model to ensure proper functioning and optimal print quality.
Printing Requirements: Assess your printing needs, such as color requirements, single-color vs. full-color printing, and the level of durability required for the ID cards.
Security Features: If enhanced security is a priority, consider ribbons that offer specialized security panels, such as holographic overlays or UV printing.
Budget Considerations: Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of different ribbon options, keeping in mind the desired print quality and durability.
How to Install an ID Card Ribbon
Installing an ID card ribbon may vary slightly depending on the ID card printer model. However, the general steps involved are as follows:
Open the printer's ribbon compartment.
Remove any protective materials from the new ribbon.
Align the ribbon cartridge with the designated slots inside the printer.
Insert the ribbon cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
Close the ribbon compartment and ensure it is securely locked.
Follow the printer manufacturer's instructions to align the ribbon properly.
Maintaining and Cleaning ID Card Ribbons
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of ID card ribbons, regular maintenance and cleaning are essential. Here are some tips:
Keep ribbons in a clean and dry environment, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures.
Avoid touching the print surface of the ribbon or exposing it to dust and debris.
Clean the printer regularly, following the manufacturer's guidelines, to prevent dust or debris from damaging the ribbon during printing.
Custom Lanyard Printing with ID Card Ribbons
ID card ribbons can be used in conjunction with custom lanyard printing to create a comprehensive identification solution. Custom lanyards can be printed with logos, slogans, or any desired design, while the attached ID card can provide identification and access control functionalities. This combination offers a professional and unified approach to identification in various settings, such as conferences, trade shows, or corporate events.
Tips for Effective ID Card Ribbon Usage
To make the most of your ID card ribbons, consider the following tips:
Design Eye-Catching ID Cards: Utilize the full-color printing capabilities of ID card ribbons to create visually appealing ID cards that stand out.
Incorporate Security Features: Take advantage of specialized security panels offered by certain ribbons to enhance the security of your ID cards.
Regularly Inspect and Replace Ribbons: Check the ribbon status and replace it when necessary to ensure consistent print quality and avoid interruptions in the printing process.
Train Staff on Proper Ribbon Handling: Educate employees on how to handle ribbons correctly to prevent damage and ensure smooth printing operations.
Keep a Stock of Ribbons: Maintain an adequate supply of ribbons to avoid running out during critical printing periods.
Conclusion
ID card ribbons play a crucial role in producing high-quality, durable, and visually appealing ID cards. By leveraging their benefits and understanding the various types available, organizations can enhance their identification systems and create a professional image. Additionally, the combination of ID card ribbons with custom lanyard printing offers a comprehensive solution for identification needs in different settings. With proper maintenance and effective usage, ID card ribbons can contribute to the overall security and efficiency of any organization.

Headmate nametags!
It's pretty simple but eh, why not share what it is and how we did it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just three examples of nametags.
So here's the supplies list:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/PG-Safety-Lanyard-Black-1-Count/164213552
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pen-Gear-Plastic-Name-Tag-Badge-ID-Card-Holders-3-3-8-x-2-1-4-Clear-12-Ct/885720811
Key ring
Notecards (blank ones, not ruled)
Scissors
Markers
And it's pretty simple.
Cut the notecards to 2 ¼" × 3⅜" (or eyeball it to fit into the card holder)
Write the name of a headmate on two cards. This is a chance to stylize with your own flair. Pick colors the headmate likes and/or play with the font. We used this website to explore different font styles: https://www.fontspace.com/
Put them in separate holders but facing opposite directions (put one in one holder, and the other in another holder with the writing facing the back).
Repeat this for all of the headmates getting name tags, except put the first card into a holder that has one reversed (so that from the front it shows one name, and the back another).
When you get to the last name, put the backwards facing card into the first holder in step 3.
Stack them up so that the duplicate names are next to each other.
Slip a ring through the whole bunch. A keyring has been working for us so far. We tried a binder ring but it got loose and kept falling off.
Hook the lanyard on and you're done!
You should have a name tag that shows the same name on both sides (that way when the nametag inevitably flips about, your name is still visible). You pop the ring off of the lanyard and flip to the name of the new fronter when you switch.
If we could manage to get documents and printers to do what we want, we'd some day like to print out our pictures on these nametags so that folks know what we look like. We'd also like to get the nametags laminated for durability. But in the year or two that we've had these, we've only needed to replace the cards themselves once!
We know this doesn't work for systems that are too large or ones that have trouble knowing or sharing who's fronting. But we've found this really helpful around friends and family. (Bonus points: folks we aren't explicitly out to don't seem to notice enough to say anything. Closest we got was someone commenting "what? Worried you'll forget your name?" To which I replied "yup!" And they left it at that. So it doesn't seem to even be as overt as we imagined it would be!)

hi all! i got the november 2023 YA fantasy fairyloot box a few days back and wanted to share with you. the theme of november's box is "alchemy of us" and the book this month is The Scarlet Alchemist by Kylie Lee Baker. it's the first book in a series set in ancient China, and this fairyloot edition has the prettiest sprayed edges and gorgeous endpaper art (i'll share photos of these in an upcoming post). i'm super excited about this book! a few years ago i fell down a rabbit hole of fantasy novels set in ancient China, so The Scarlet Alchemist sounds right up my alley. additionally, in the author interview pages, Baker mentions that she takes inspiration from Full Metal Alchemist. i'm curious to see how that plays out.
the november box came with a lot of fun goodies i haven't seen before from fairyloot, including a hanging pocket organizer which i laid flat for the photo above. (i struggle with these photos. i wanted to hang up the organizer and have all the items peeking out but it wasn't going how i imagined it so i did a floor layout instead. i did my best!! lol). there's an id card holder with a detachable lanyard and cell phone loop, so you can choose how/where/if you want to attach it. the id card holder is inspired by the Vampire Academy book series, which i haven't read, but i'm enjoying the theme of it anyway.
additionally, there's a calendar based on Sarah J. Maas' books (the title on the box reads "The World of Sarah J. Maas Calendar"). i haven’t read Maas' series either so i’ll probably give the calendar to a friend, but it is a really fun calendar set. there’s a wood block with a notch in it, and then a card for each month of the year, with character art in the background. the cards have pretty foil lettering and edges, too. maybe i should finally give in and read acotar?
a few more things, of which we've previously seen iterations: this box came with the next two tarot cards to add to the ongoing tarot deck, and it came with the third installment of the hollow books series! the "advanced alchemy" book in the photo is actually a hollow book with a magnet closure. it can be used to tuck away items on a bookshelf: knickknacks, valuables, bookmarks, etc. there's also an author letter and spoiler card, both with artwork on the opposite side, and a bookmark version of the spoiler card art.
and that's everything for this box! thanks so much for reading. as a heads up, i put my fairyloot subscription on pause for a month, so i will not have a post about december's box for you all. i'm taking a month to determine whether i want to continue my subscription or not. as much as i love receiving these boxes, i've been in a very specific reading mood over the past few months and am not at all caught up on the fairyloot books i've received, so it might not make sense to continue ordering them. gotta make sure i'm spending my money wisely etc. i'll post an update in january on whether i decide to continue my subscription.
hope you're doing well. ✨

[ID: a drawing of a person dressed as a human Fluttershy. They have brown eyes, yellow triangle ears, yellow feathered wings, short pink hair tied in a low bun, and small pointed teeth. They're wearing a darker yellow cardigan, white tank top, teal skirt, and a teal lanyard that has a card in a pink holder. They're smiling with one hand held up, and behind them is a green square with two instances of Fluttershy's cutiemark. End ID]
For halloween, we are a pony (based on the movie design but also my design has a bit of extra flare, and this one has ro-ification as well)

FairyLoot Unboxing
Alchemy of Us November 2023
More and more, FairyLoot just isn't living up to my expectations. When I first subscribed, FairyLoot was my favourite box, but now I prefer the others. Part of it might be that I'm just not that into YA Fantasy anymore. I don't know.
The featured book is "The Scarlet Alchemist" by Kylie Lee Baker. I'm not interested in this book - I'm over the magical royalty thing, it's such a common trope, and I've read some really bad ones lately. This edition has a completely redesigned cover, which is much nicer than the original. It's got really impressive stencilled edges, and full artwork endpapers. The foiling on the hardcase is nice, but it's pretty basic, and only on the front.
The first item is hanging storage pockets. This is inspired by the featured book of the month. I already have one of these from a previous box, which I dutifully hung on the back of my bathroom door. And I have never once used it. So I won't use this one either. It's an alright design, and I really like that it matches the rest of the box, but it's probably not a colour I'd choose to decorate in.
The next item is a desk calendar. This is a cool design - it has twelve foiled cards - one for each month - with a wooden stand. Unfortunately, it's based on characters by Sarah J. Maas. I've only read one of her books, and I hated it. So again, I won't use this.
Next is an ID holder with a lanyard. It's inspired by "Vampire Academy", which I haven't read, and probably won't. I already have one of these from a previous box (a lot of repeats this month) which was a nicer design - but I don't have anything to use this for, I'm not in college, and my work doesn't have ID cards or anything.
The last item is the next in the secret book collection. I do really love these, they're hollow books designed for storage. I've got a few of these, and they're really nice. This one is designed to look like an Alchemy textbook.
This month's tarot cards are Juliette and Roma from "These Violent Delights".

It was easy for Borna to step through the shadows, appearing in the alley close to her sanctuary. She turned to look back, and smiled to herself when she saw Frank step through the shadows after her, his hands in his pockets and, for all appearances, was a normal teenage boy.
“This is it.”
Frank looked over the old, abandoned building. It was a former plantation building, converted to a morgue back in the 1950s. Perfect for her use. “It doesn’t look like a safehouse.” He told her, though he reached a hand out to stroke along one of the old pillars. Borna smirked, and tilted her head towards the old oak doors.
Frank didn’t bother to open them, but simply phased through the wood, stepping past as if they were simply not there. Borna followed him, and they looked around the decrepit interior.
“Remember what I told you.” Borna hummed, and she felt the power flex around Frank, as he concentrated on what was there, instead of what he saw.
It was busy, tonight. Borna caught Frank’s elbow just in time to move him out of the way of a bedraggled spirit, who blubbed at him, black water spilling out over the delicate cream carpet.
“Take this to the dining room, and someone there can give you a meal that you would like.” A man nodded at Borna, and someone else took his place at the desk. “Evening, decided to come home for a rest?”
“No rest for the wicked. This is my new Banshee, Frank.” She indicated the teen, who was openly gawking at the spirits that were passing by.
“Nice to meet you. You guys hungry? Fresh cream cakes and sweets in the dining room.” He held out a hand. Frank shook it carefully, and stepped back.
“Maybe later, I need to set a room up for him.” Borna hummed, leaning over a counter and plucking a key from it’s holder. “The balcony room should do just fine, the en suite still works, right?”
“Yeah, though a yokai tried to haunt the ladies’ room down here. I added extra talismans and it shouldn’t be a problem.” He turned to look at the desk, groaning. “I’d better get back to it. Nice to meet you, Frank!”
Frank waved as he was led upstairs, trying to restrain himself from gawking at more spirits. “What is this place?”
“A…hotel. We offer a brief respite for ghosts passing on.” Borna led him up the luxurious hallway. “We serve our purposes here.”
“So…the desk worker-?”
“Waylon’s a manager. Technically, he’s an onryo, he was murdered when someone tried to change him into a bride. Forcefully. They seek vengance for what happened to them. Waylon had tried to blow the whistle on bad practises at work…and now he’s a manager who gets his vengance giving one pillow instead of two.”
Borna unlocked the door, and pushed it open. Frank let out a soft sound of wonder as he stepped inside. It was the kind of opulent bedroom he’d only seen in movies, rich dark woods and soft white bedding.
“Bathroom is through there. I’m going to my room, end of the hall here, for a shower. Downstairs and on the right is the dining hall, you can eat there, tell them I sent you, or Waylon will vouch for you.” She handed him the key. “Enjoy your stay, Frank.”
He clutched at the key and nodded, as she stepped away from him, his eyes open in wonder. Months, they’d been by each other’s sides, as he cried, and she called. He closed the door behind her, and turned to look at the room again.
The walls were a soft, baby blue, with a huge bed. An ornate desk sat against a wall, and next to it was a balcony, framed by heavy curtains. Frank moved to sit at the desk, setting his key on the side, and jumped when he heard a knock.
“Uh…come in?”
Waylon shifted in, holding a tray. “Hi. Thought I’d bring you some food up, and your ID. Flash that and you’ll never have to pay for food or drink downstairs.” He smiled. “I can retake the photo, if you want.”
Frank scooped up the lanyard and inspected it. As he tilted the plastic card, a holograph flickered in the light, an ornate B. “Thank you. Thanks, for everything.”
Waylon slid the tray of food, sandwiches, cakes, and a tea set onto the desk. “If there’s anything else, or you feel like you want something but don’t want to come down, pick up the phone and dial 1. It’ll ring the front desk.” He winked. “I’ll see you later.”
Frank sat down as the door closed, and picked one of the small sandwiches up. It had been a while since he ate. But, as he nibbled at the small sandwich, it was nice to do such a small, human thing again.

MCM Comic-Con London October 2022 pt9
Alright got distracted a bit (wonder what happened hahaha) but finally the merch I did get other than the teeny gengar.
Just a mystery bag and an art print but great finds imo. The mystery bags have random-ish selections of smaller merch inside related to the shows on the bag. There was a choice of Naruto, Black Butler, Jujutsu Kaisen, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun and No Game No Life here. Of those I’ve only watched NGNL and Black Butler so I went for the one looking like it’s the rarer merch: last NGNL bag in the batch for sale at the time I found the stall. A good collection of tit-n-tat: mousepad; stacks of posters/cards/bookmarks; cleaning cloth; badge; cushion cover; character stand and keyring; movie tie-in id badge holder, lanyard.
And ahhh this delightful print! Sadly the frame is due later this week but it still looks great. It stood out as being completely different in style and topic amongst the other selection of art available and of course it’s the type of piece that catches my attention. The colours, details, that classic 80s-90s style! It just pulls up the rest of the fight into your mind right? It doesn’t matter if the viewer is the target or just another mook - she’s won this long night of blood and death. An utterly radical piece! According to the stall banner and name it is by Sonia Leong at Sweatdrop Studios’ stall, her character Rua!

for all your cosplay needs here’s this id badge for Martin. I used it recently for my own outfit and it prints well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i made it using clip studio. if you want to modify it for any of the other institute employees go ahead! it was made with the font Optima Bold. i just sized it in google docs and printed it out
i got the other parts from walmart. the frame is: “Pen + Gear Vertical Durable Plastic Metallic Badge Card Holder” (but you could adjust it to fit whatever holder you need)
and you could pretty much use any lanyard here, i just got a plain black one.
