Mastering Identity Cards: A Comprehensive Guide to Designing, Printing, and Costs
In today's world, identity cards hold immense importance in verifying personal information and establishing individual identities. Whether you're an organization in need of custom identity cards or an individual seeking an ID card, understanding the process of designing and printing is vital. This article will serve as your ultimate guide, covering the advantages of professional ID card designers, exploring factors that affect ID card printing prices, and providing insights into finding nearby PVC ID card printing services.
The Vital Role of ID Card Designers : Designing an ID card goes beyond mere inclusion of a photograph and personal details. Professional ID card designers bring expertise to the table, creating visually appealing and secure cards that effectively represent an individual or organization. They possess knowledge of design principles, typography, color schemes, and graphical elements, enabling them to craft unique and captivating ID card designs that align with branding and individual style. Furthermore, ID card designers assist in selecting appropriate security features, such as holograms, barcodes, QR codes, or magnetic stripes, enhancing card security and preventing counterfeiting.
Unraveling the Factors Influencing ID Card Printing Costs : Several factors contribute to the overall cost of ID card printing. The complexity of the design, the quantity of cards required, and the printing technology employed are key determinants.
Customized ID card designs with intricate graphics or special features often incur higher printing costs, while simpler designs prove more cost-effective. The quantity of cards ordered can also impact pricing, as bulk orders frequently qualify for discounts.
The choice of printing technology plays a significant role as well. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) stands as a popular material due to its durability and versatility. Different printing techniques, such as direct-to-card printing or retransfer printing, affect pricing. Direct-to-card printing offers a cost-effective solution for designs with fewer colors, while retransfer printing allows for full-color, edge-to-edge printing, ideal for intricate designs albeit at a potentially higher cost.
Finding PVC ID Card Printing Services Nearby : Locating PVC ID card printing services in your vicinity requires careful consideration of several factors. Begin by conducting an online search for reputable printing companies or service providers. Scrutinize customer reviews and peruse their portfolio to ensure they possess the necessary expertise and experience. Local printing services offer distinct advantages, including quicker turnaround times, direct communication, and the ability to inspect the final product's quality. Online directories and business listing platforms facilitate the search for nearby PVC ID card printing services. Take into account their proximity, pricing, delivery options, and customer support.
Prior to finalizing a printing service, request samples or proofs of previous work to assess their quality standards. Additionally, inquire about their printing equipment and technologies to ensure they meet your specific requirements.
Identity cards are indispensable tools for identification and verification purposes. Whether you're an organization or an individual in need of an ID card, understanding the process of designing, printing, and associated costs is crucial. Entrusting professional ID card designers ensures visually appealing and secure cards that accurately represent your identity. When considering printing options, factors like design complexity, quantity, and printing technology influence costs. By utilizing online resources and local directories, you can conveniently locate nearby PVC ID card printing services, guaranteeing an efficient and satisfactory printing experience.

Bazaar - Mischievous
This delightful set was inspired by this behind the scenes footage from the Bazaar shoot, where Zhehan is playing around and puts a teapot lid on Junjun's head:
Ahh, this is so good. Here's a few pics from this as well just because we all deserve it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love these outfits so much that I bought the jacket. It's actually the same jacket they are both wearing, the sleeves have zippers that you can detach them completely like Junjun is wearing, or fully zip them closed, or have it anywhere in between like Zhehan is showing it here. Naturally it looks nowhere near as good on me!
Alright, so first up we have the diorama. These just arrived in my sea shipment, so I was very excited to pull them out and set them up. This is a foamcore printed set. It's actually double sided with a totally different scene on the other side, but I'll leave that side for a different fig set (the suspense, I know!).
Tumblr media
In retrospect I really wish I had bought two sets, so I could have both sides set up separately next to each other. The foamcore is pretty tough but not that tough, but I don't want to be pulling the set in and out of the tabs and cause excessive wear and bending. I ordered these on pre-order, and unfortunately the seller didn't have any extras, so I'll have to poke around on Xianyu.
Tumblr media
Zhehan with the blue streak in his hair was clearly one of his own favorite looks, by the way he set his profile pic to it back in the day, and it's definitely one of mine.
Tumblr media
I adore these winky expressions! They're cute from all angles.
Tumblr media
As you can see in this post, Zhehan's ponytail over-weights him in back, and he topples right over, so on bases they go.
Tumblr media
Wow, I really like this diorama, the colors just pop.
Tumblr media
A shot from above so you can see the teapot lid on Junjun's head and the detail on Zhehan's hairstyle. I'm enjoying the color coordination of the blue eye with the blue hair, it's very fun.
Tumblr media
And a closeup so you can see their adorable faces and playful expressions! You can also see the detail on their outfits. The moon and star here that they're wearing for each other is a nice touch. I also like Zhehan's stripy socks! The paint bled a tiny bit but you can't really tell where you're just looking at them in your hand.
Tumblr media
The Chinese 小谋深算 xiǎo móu shēn suàn on the box card Google Translates to "little tricks" or "scheming", which I've taken the extreme liberty of translating as "mischievous", assuming it has to do with them being playful and Zhehan putting the lid on Junjun's head. It works for me!

Day 29 7/26/2021
Hiiiiii! Look at me catching up teehee.
Today marks one month on the atoll! It went so fast!
This morning, Ben and I did a shorebird survey on the runway before breakfast. We saw sooo many cutie shorebirds. They have the best calls too! I’m definitely getting a better handle counting and identifying them, but still need some practice. After seeing lots of cuties, we headed to the galley for some yummy pancakes. I put peanut butter on mine. Yum! Later in the morning, Ben and I responded to some emails and did some excel data organization. Very fun stuff! Before lunch we started our smart shell acceptance test. So we collected some foliage and put it into a large container, picked up 3 hermit crabs, and put them in the container with two of the smart shells to see if they traded their shell for the 3D printed shell which resembles a PVC cap (crabs were seen using PVC caps as shells in the past). We started by watching them for 15 minutes and then left them for 3 hours to see if they accepted the shells. They didn’t. They were very disgruntled and were just trying to escape. I don’t blame them, but I’m eager to see one try the shell out. At lunch, I had a PBJ. MMMMMM YUMMMMY. In the afternoon, Ben and I headed to Strawn to transplant some Pisonia babies to a field near their mama tree. This will hopefully give them a better chance because they were all clumped together under the mama tree and would likely not all survive. It was pretty tough digging them out without disrupting their fragile little roots, but really fun to get my green thumb on! While we were moving the little babies it was very hot. No wind and lots of sun. Luckily the heavens blessed us with lots of rain about halfway through so we cooled off real nice. After planting, we explored a bit and looked for sooty tern nests. Then we headed to Southern end to switch out our caller and decoy colony SD cards. Everything looked good so we headed back to the boat. I had driven on the way there which was fun and was planning to drive back, but had some troubles starting it up and the wind and waves were rocking us quite a bit. I got pretty frustrated because I had a lot of trouble lifting the engine. I had to fling my body back to get it up and I just wish I was little stronger. Then I couldn’t get it started and was already a little on edge so wasn’t thinking through what could be the problem. Turns out I had turned the throttle a bit forward in my struggle to lift the engine. As a safety mechanism, the engine won’t start if the throttle is turned. The whole time I just thought I wasn’t strong enough to pull the belt lawnmower starter thingy (you know what I’m talking about…hopefully) and then I gave up and had Ben do it. In retrospect, I should have just taken a breath but I just felt a wee overwhelmed. Anyyyywayyy we headed back to camp in the rain, put away the boat, and I rinsed off. Then I headed to the lab to try and catch up on my blogs!! It’s been driving me nuts how far behind I am. I made some progress and headed to the galley for dinner. Marsha made beer battered fish (fried tofu for the veggies), french fries, chipotle mayo, and a yummy cesar salad. For dessert, I had a super yummy blueberry scone. It was quite the treat! After a tummy full of french fries (my absolute favorite thing just like my Mama!), I headed to the commons (big screened in room where we watch movies, play games, and attached is a little gym with a ping pong table) to do more blogging while watching The Office. The Cocos (Lauren, Ryan, Andrew) and Ben joined too! They played Mario Kart on their Nintendo DSesss (? what’s the plural of DS haha) so that was fun to listen to them play. I miss video games (might have my Mama put my DS in the little package she sends me :))). I was also really happy to get more pictures and VIDEOS!!?…up on my blog. I got an app to transfer the photos I take on snorkels onto my phone which is wayyyy faster than downloading. Underwater photos coming soon!! It took a good chunk of the evening to get everything uploaded but it was so nice chatting and listening to music with everyone.
After everything loaded, I headed off to bed for some sleepies.
Tumblr media
Smart shell acceptance trial with purple hermit crabs.
Tumblr media
I forgot to post this with my Sunday entry. Look at this hermit crab using a coconut crab claw as a shell. What the heck!!

Everything You Need To Know About Bizzit’s NFC Business Cards
A Bizzit card is the Smart Business Card that all working professionals need! Just ONE business card for a lifetime. Regular paper visiting cards have been an inconvenience that has been ignored since the beginning of time. Let me give you some examples,
A fresher that joins a new company would get their own stack of 100-200 paper business cards. A year later, once they are promoted they get a fresh stack with a change in designation. After which, they decide to move to another company during the year and there they receive another fresh stack of paper business cards. In this process, more than 100 paper visiting cards enter the trash can without even being used!
Let’s take another instance, say an employee goes for a meeting and exchanges their visiting card. The receiver will either lose that small piece of paper or take an image of the card and toss it into the bin.
So eventually, EVERY single paper business card ends up in the trash at some point! Yet companies continue to print thousands of cards for their employees.
In a world where the usage and wastage of paper is tremendous, and is causing depletion of natural resources, it is time that everyone considers minimising the use of paper in their daily lives. Bizzit came to existence with the sole purpose of eliminating all the issues persistent with the traditional paper visiting card.
Bizzit’s Smart Business Cards are customised according to the needs of each customer. They are made with a premium matte pvc and have a metallic gold print. They look and feel extremely premium but are very affordable too.
Let's discuss how a Bizzit Smart Business Card works.
All of Bizzits Smart Digital Visiting Cards are equipped with NFC technology that makes it so easy to use.  The user can simply tap their Smart card on a smartphone using NFC technology. This instantly transfers the information from the card to the receiver’s smartphone in the form of a personal mini website.
In case the smartphone is not compatible with NFC the QR code option is also available on the smart card. In this case, the user can scan the QR code using their camera and be redirected to the same profile.
If the user’s designation or other details change in the future, they can easily login to Bizzits portal using their username and password and update any of the details instantly.
How can the user edit their digital profile?
The user can directly visit https://user.bizzit.in/login-page/ and login using their personal username and password that is provided in the package after receiving the card.
How to Use the card?
These Smart Digital Visiting cards work on both Android and iOS Devices:
On Android Devices, the users need to switch on NFC from the settings to use the tap feature. Then the user can then directly tap below the back camera for the profile to pop up.
If the smartphone is not compatible with NFC, the user would have to use the QR scan option.
In IOS Devices, the users can directly tap a Bizzit card behind the phone near the camera to use the tap feature. They can also scan the QR code to access the profile.
What are all the ways that your profile can be shared?
There are three ways you can share your share you details with another person using Bizzit‘s Digital Smart Visiting Card
Tap & Share:
Tap the card behind an NFC enabled smartphone and instantly share your profile!
Scan & Share:
Scan the QR code on the card using your phone camera or google lens to instantly share your profile!
Link Sharing:
Copy your personal mini websites URL and share it with your pre-existing contacts!
Digital Visiting cards can make your contact sharing experience much easier and effective and memorable.  It acts as an ice breaker during the most awkward meetings and can instantly boost your image. Apart from all this, using Bizzits Smart Business Cards directly contributes to the reduction of stacks of paper business cards having a positive impact on the environment. Bizzit cards are a one time cost for a lifetime of contact exchange and impression building. With login access and the ability to change details the user would never need to print another business card again.
Why should companies move to smart business cards by Bizzit?
Let’s understand what happens if companies do not move to using Bizzit. Every new employee would need a new stack of business cards and every employee leaving the company would be wasting their old stack of business cards. Along with this, if the employee’s details change then the stack gets wasted. And lets not forget, every paper business card eventually ends up in the trash.
So save not just money in the long run but the environment too!
As a token of mutual respect for networking, standard cards have travelled across millions, even billions of hands to date. With technology and business models advancing at a rapid pace, this significant component of networking too, has taken on a new shape and size. The digital business card allows you to share your contact information and more with a single tap on a smartphone. By using the NFC technology or by scanning the QR code.

LINOLEUM FLOORING REPAIR SERVICE IN  WICHITA KS The Linoleum Flooring Repair will At Handyman Services Of Wichita, our experienced flooring experts can provide the best Linoleum Flooring Repair in Wichita KS at a very reasonable price. We take pride in offering the best Linoleum Flooring Repair. Our Handyman Services Of Wichita experts take pride in providing the best service in the Wichita KS area. Repairing Linoleum Flooring Linoleum was a common original flooring material in historic houses throughout Wichita KS. In most cases, the original linoleum has been lost to time or damage. Often another flooring material was laid over the original linoleum. If you are lucky enough to uncover an intact, authentic, inlaid linoleum floor in your historic house, you may be able to save it. However, be aware that a historic surface will never look new. But you can repair minor damage to your original linoleum that will show the patina of the aging process. Linoleum was made in large sheets with linseed oil, resins and canvas.Handyman Services Of Wichita Linoleum was designed in two ways: an inlaid version made by laying different solid colors of linoleum pieces into a pattern, and a printed version with a pattern printed only on the linoleum surface. Many companies today make a product often called linoleum that is made with polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The flooring industry today calls this sheet vinyl or linoleum. Assess the Condition of Your Linoleum If you remove another flooring material that was laid over your original linoleum, it will leave behind glue, rips, and nail holes that you can repair. If your intact linoleum is the inlaid version rather than a printed design, your repairs will be much easier. However, if your original linoleum is the printed variety, the pattern may have worn off. Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible for a house or building owner to restore this missing surface. Gather Your Tools and Supplies To repair minor damage to original linoleum flooring, you will need to gather the following tools and supplies: ●    White vinegar ●    Liquid dishwashing detergent ●    Five-gallon bucket ●    Shellac repair sticks ●    Carnauba-based floor wax Repair Your Damaged  Linoleum Follow the three steps below to repair your original linoleum:    Clean the linoleum surface with 1/4 cup of white vinegar and several drops of a liquid dishwashing detergent mixed in a five-gallon bucket of hot water. Rinse the cleaned surface with clear water to remove all the dirt and reveal the appearance of the original linoleum surface.    Repair cracks, small tears and gouges in the surface by filling them with shellac. Most woodworking supply companies on the internet sell shellac sticks for repairing furniture finishes. These shellac sticks come in a variety of colors that can be mixed to match the affected areas of your linoleum. Follow the manufacturer's directions to install the shellac stick.    Wax the linoleum surface with a carnauba-based floor wax, which is similar to car wax. Carnauba is derived from a plant and produces a durable finish. Follow the wax manufacturer's application instructions closely. Repair Cuts, dents, scratches, or burns up to the diameter of a quarter in size can be fused with the help of a liquid seam sealer. Larger holes or tears may make it necessary to replace some or all of your vinyl or linoleum floor. The good news is that this type of flooring tends to be decorated with some kind of attractive motif. Designed to hide dirt and other marks, this feature makes it simpler to discreetly patch a damaged area; cut it out along the lines of the pattern and insert a new piece of flooring. Stains can often be avoided by promptly wiping up spills and cat or dog "accidents." Use a mop or soft cloth with a cleaning fluid labeled safe for vinyl floors. Carefully scrape up as much as possible of tacky or waxy substances like chewing gum, candle drippings, or glue, with the help of a plastic spoon or the edge of a credit card. If a stain remains, rub gently with a non-abrasive scrubbing pad. Then dab with isopropyl alcohol. Rust stains should be treated with lemon juice. Scuffs and shoe polish marks can usually be rubbed away with a pencil eraser. Then clean as for Stains, above. Peeling corners indicate that the glue which held your flooring in place has dried up. Clean out all grit and grime from the area and scrape off loose adhesive. Apply fresh vinyl adhesive and weight the floor down for a 24-hour period. Open seams may be repaired in a similar manner if the edges can be brought together in a neat line. If they have deteriorated, utilize a metal transition strip to close tidily. Bubbling may be due to air under the floor. Slit a tiny hole with a needle or utility knife and press out the air. Then apply a small amount of new adhesive and weight. Use seam sealer to fill any holes that you made. Maintenance Use a doormat at all entrances to prevent tracking in particles that might scratch your floor. Clean regularly to remove dirt and debris. Sweep or vacuum and damp mop on a daily basis. Use non-abrasive cleansers and stay away from bleach or other harsh chemicals. Never soak the surface with water. Avoid walking on the floor with high heels. Your flooring will also be vulnerable to scrapes and gouges from your furniture; investing in felt or rubber footpads will offer protection. If you have to move furnishings  or indeed, any heavy object  across your floor, lift rather than dragging, pulling, or pushing. Repairing Linoleum Flooring Linoleum was a common original flooring material in historic houses throughout McAllen TX. Linoleum was made in large sheets with linseed oil, resins and canvas. Handyman McAllen Linoleum was designed in two ways: an inlaid version made by laying different solid colors of linoleum pieces into a pattern, and a printed version with a pattern printed only on the linoleum surface. Chapter: Thirty Five.
Chapter Index
Story on Wattpad
Maggie.
I didn't wanted to get up as early as Don had gotten up to. I knew why his Mondays started suspiciously early, and this one wasn't any different. He had the commission thing at 9 but he was up and at it at six. Again, I knew why. His NA meetings were Mondays.
I don't know if he knew I knew he still went, because even I thought he had stopped going, that he thought he was too good for them. That wasn't the case, he'd been clean for almost two years now and ever since I detoxed him he attended the meetings.
I felt the bed sink in next to me, then Don's hand crawl up from my waist to the side of it. He leaned in and gave me a kiss on my jaw, then moved down to my neck.
"Remember the commission is at 9, hopefully I'll be done before lunch, I don't know how long it's going to take but I'll take a taxi now and you can come pick me up then"
"Okay" I groggily replied, feeling another kiss on my neck, then the bed move again as Don got off it and walked out.
I was about to drift to sleep for another hour or so when I heard my coffee machine start, it was an expresso machine and thus, it needed to be manually handled, meaning: someone was in my kitchen.
I stood up and walked down, thinking maybe Don was going to miss the meeting to get in time to the commission.
Donald wasn't in my kitchen, it was Raymond. Drinking from a little cup the coffee from the expresso machine and eating some croissants Don knew I liked, which I why he always brought them for me on the way back from his morning run.
He slid a cup to me as I fixed my hair a little.
"I'm planning on going back to bed, thank you" I said humorlessly "and yes, Ray, you can totally eat one of my croissants"
He chuckled and cleaned his fingers with a tissue.
"I need to speak with Agent Ressler"
"Too bad, he's not here"
"Then where?"
"Why do you want to talk to him?" I sat down in the stools near him.
"Agent Keen is being targeted by an assassin I'm sure the bureau would like to have behind bars"
I just sighed and crossed my arms over the table.
"He's in a meeting, NA meeting. It's a few blocks away from the White House, in Cardozo I think" I said reluctantly.
"Thank you" he replied shortly, then searched in his jacket and pulled out a  piece of paper. "There's a building in downtown DC that I need you to check out." He took a little piece of paper and handed it to me "it's an office building, it's the sixth floor I'm interested in. I need you to go there and inspect it thoroughly. Walls, floor tiles, accomodations, even the brand of tea the secretary drinks"
I just took the paper and sighed.
"We're close from finishing Maggie, I appreciate your help"
I nodded again and felt a tap on my shoulder as Raymond walked behind me and exited my house from the French doors of my back yard.
I took a shower and dressed up to go out and do this thing for Raymond. Might as well get it all over with before having to go and pick up Don.
The office building wasn't tall compared to the ones around, 20 stories, quiet side of town. Clearly old since the lobby was really marmoly. I climbed up the elevator to floor six with a purse to my wrist and my phone in my hand, opened on the camera app and taking photos of everything.
Senior year Drama Class don't fail me now.
"Hello" I leaned into the desk, measuring it's height with mine. "I need an appointment with Dr. Huffnaggel please"
The desk was made out of refined light brown wood, PVC exterior, on the other side there was a computer, the usual office supplies, no personal effects which was good, a chair in which the secretary was sitting on.
She looked up at me and gave me a warm smile.
"Yes of course, what's the motive of the consultation?"
"My uh" I pretended to sutter. The walls were pale white, the letters of the office behind the secretary read "Dr. Oren Huffnaggel, marital therapy and counselment." I had to get a good look at those to make out the font.
"My husband has just been admitted to the army and-" I still had it, I covered my mouth while tears striked down my eyes. "I'm just so anxious and I can't stoop thinking he's going to die" I whispered at the end. I quickly cleaned up my tears and gave her a weak smile "sorry, it's just been too hard for me, I haven't slept a full night in days and-" thank God she interrupted me, because I was running out of things to say
"Why don't you take a seat and I'll get you some water"
I nodded while she motioned and the seats behind me. As soon as she was out of sight I shamelessly took pictures of the place, the doors, the lights, the floor tiles, the couch, taking a closer one to get the fabric right, the decorations and such.
I sat down when I heard the click of heels coming back to the reception area and waited for the secretary to hand me a glass of water. I gave her a thankful nod as I took a little sip, then watched her go around the desk and write something down a paper. She doubled back and handed me a little card
"Given the urgency of the situation in can set up an emergency appointment at 10, how does that sound?"
I let out a little sigh of relief and took the paper
"Yes, that sounds amazing, thank you so much..." I waited until she told me her name
"Dorothy, and it's no problem. I'll see you tomorrow" she gave me a sweet smile and returned to the desk when another person came in. I left the glass in a side table and stood up.
Perfect, I could review the pictures today and tomorrow I could come back and settle some things if I'm not sure.
It was still early for me to go back home so I got to work. I printed the pictures, then headed to one of the providers Gina had when it came to costume made furniture. I spent maybe an hour looking through samples of fabric to get the one in the couches look the same, then I headed to the paint shop and got the colors for the walls outside and inside, the tiles were difficult because they were this hideous green and I didn't know if I'll be able to get the right pattern.
While moving from a shop to another I got a call from Don, saying that he was good to go. It was well pass lunch time but I was still hungry.
I drove down to the White House and parked a few blocks ahead, switching seats while I waited. Don liked to drive.
He came around a few minutes later, opening the door and handing me a little bag while he took a seat.
"What's this?" I said peaking inside.
"I don't know, it's one of those YOLO bags"
I laughed, throwing my head back a little, he chuckled a bit too. He could be really funny when he wanted to.
"You mean a swag bag?" I said between chuckles.
"Yeah one of those" he cut the corner and began driving "don't eat anything of it though, it might be poisoned" he playfully warned.
"Well, I'm hungry so might as well" I fished something out of the bag and gasped "I freaking love cake pops, you have no idea." I unwrapped the cake pop and gave it a bite. I hummed in content and looked at Don. He looked a little upset "you okay?" I said, touching his arm.
"We'll see. For now, Hamilton, Equinox? Where do you want to eat?"
"Au Bon Pain" I named, digging in the bag again.
There was only one spot in a side high table which we took, I ordered a César salad and Don ordered a turkey sandwich, and since it was lunchtime rush hour, we got served fast.
"So, how did it go at the thing?"
"I don't know, the Director and I stated out cases and-"
"The director of what?" I asked, stirring my salad around.
"The Director of Clandestine Services, who is also a member of the Cabal. I think he's the one Reddington has been targeting this whole time"
"Mmm" I hummed and nodded "and then what?"
"And then, Laurel Hitchin will take the case to the President and give us his decision"
"And she's what of the President?"
"She's the National Security Advisor"
"Is she the cake pop lady? Is that why you said they might be poisoned?" I joked, he smiled and looked up at the TV. Frowning, he took his phone out of his inner pocket and dialed.
I looked up and watched the screen above us. The Breaking News were about Liz Keen being shot and killed during an FBI raid that clearly hadn't happened under Don's approval. He said a few words on the phone, then hung up and turned back to his meal.
"That's not true right?" I asked, referring to Agent Keen.
"No, it's not. Navabi has been trying to reach me to get my opinion on how we will handle this new case Reddington gave us, seems like they did a good job."
"You've got a good team A.D Ressler" I teased, making him smile and finally look at me.
He'd been really distraught today and I had gotten so used to having him over me all the time, now that I had gotten nothing all day, I missed it.
I reached out and ran the back of my hand on his cheek, making him lean his head to the side and place a kiss on my hand.
"Hi" I said with a smile. He took my hand and gave it another kiss.
"I have a lot on my plate today" he said in an apologetic way. I gave him a little smile and nodded
"I know" I replied. He leaned in to give me one short kiss before standing up and clearing our bill.
While we walked out, hand in hand, I spoke up, making noise over the little uncomfortable silence.
"I was thinking to invite my sister this weekend, you know, I have to set up the guest bedrooms and such. I'm trying to keep myself occupied you know, since my boyfriend is never home"
When we were getting close to the car he pulled me by the hand and made my chest bump up to his, leading his hands to my waist.
"Your boyfriend is never home? Sounds like a real douchebag" I chuckled and led my hands to his neck
"He might, but he catches baddies for a living and looks very hot doing so. He's a keeper"
He smiled again, looking down at my lips and leaning in to kiss me slowly. He finished off with another kiss on my forehead and unlocked the door of the car.
"Want me to drop you off somewhere?" He asked. I climbed on the passenger seat and twisted my eyebrows at him.
"It's my car, so I'm dropping you off somewhere and move along with my business. I have a lot on my plate as well"
He snorted a little laugh and turned the engine on.
I knew he knew I was working with Raymond, and it was a little weird that he didn't ask. But I was relieved as well, I really didn't like lying to him.
That night he was not at all happy. As soon as I saw him walk to the kitchen where I was and tore off his tie, I worded myself carefully.
"Cake pop lady screwed you over?"
"Damn right she screwed me over, he set me up to work with the Director. Share Intel. He wants Liz and Reddington dead, and having him there while we're still in touch with them is going to make me give explanations I don't want to give. Everything Reddington is doing-"
"I'm going to stop you right there" I rudely interrupted "I'll listen, but first. Have you ever seen anything like this?" I pulled out a picture from a Manila folder and showed it to him. It was a statue of a stupid horse I had to get.
"No" he said a little upset "Maggie this is-"
"Important, I know, which is why I got the unimportant stuff out of the way. Now sit, I'll listen" I motioned at the stool next to me
While he sat down I turned off the computer and closed it, watching as how he unbuttoned  his shirt and sighed.
I stood up and placed my hand on his forehead, moving it sideways and messing up his hair a little. He pulled my by the waist while I rounded his shoulders with my hands.
"You've been doing great. And you're being forced to work and to trust people you don't want to. I'm confident in you Donnie, I know you'll pull through this"
I hugged him and made him rest his head on my shoulder as I ran my hand on his neck, putting a little pressure on the side of his spine, he was really tense and knotted up all over.
After a while he placed a kiss on my neck and pulled the computer closer to him.
"Here, I'll help you find that stupid horse"

I’ll say this for Great Lakes Comic Con, I never fail to have a good time there – it’s always been a good show all the way back to that first year that Maddie and I discovered it when we were looking for an alternative to Wizard World Cleveland. I skipped this one last year mostly because there were no guests that I was interested in and as such, it fell prey to the streamlining of my schedule. This time around however, not only were they bringing in the actors from the old Shazam series, but they were also bringing in one of my bucket list writers – Jim Starlin. His run on Batman is transformative, and the combination of him, Mike DeCarlo and Jim Aparo are my definitive creative team for that book.
Nevertheless, I woke up that morning with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. It was an early departure, primarily because Starlin had capped his signing line to 25 people per hour, due to a hand injury. I know from experience that means you better get over to that table and grab a line ticket as soon as the show opens or you may not get to meet the guest – I’ve been burned on Bruce Campbell this way and almost lost my opportunity to get George Perez to sign my stuff. On the other hand, I would’ve preferred to have shown up around Noon and wasn’t sure if I’d have enough to d all day. Still, I have faith in Great Lakes and so I drug myself out of bed and made the long, arduous journey to Deee-troit!
I was pleased to discover that the line wasn’t as long as it had been on my previous trip, and I managed to make it over to Jim’s table just after 10:30. I was able to secure a place in line between 2 o’clock and 3 o’clock – that was going to make things difficult with the costume, I’d probably have to get in and out of it a couple of times but at least I was going to get my books signed! Ticket secured, I made my way over to the Shazam booth where the guys were friendly and happy to see me. Bringing in superheroes from these old 70s shows reminds me a lot of Akron Comicon’s old philosophy and I’ve always enjoyed the selection that Great Lakes brings in. Across the sprawling, massive dealers room floor I found some fun blind boxes of Ghostbuster stuff as well as one dealer unloading a ton of Walking Dead swag for a buck apiece. I grabbed Lucille pens for Amy and Lydia, as well as a pack of Pokémon cards for Maddie. At the door, the freebie station was set up and people were handing out promotional items for the Harley Quinn movie – tiny hammer and bat keychains as well as posters and enamel pins. I’m not proud. I loaded up. Lydia would be delighted with the tiny Harley hammer that I brought her home. Right near the entrance I spied a vendor selling Spider-man Essentials volumes for two dollars apiece and picked up two of the huge trades and headed back to the car. It was time for a swag dump and a change of outfit.
Fortunately for me, Michigan was having a mild winter so it wasn’t too terrible as I lugged the Skeksis costume in, wearing only the sweatpants and shirt that went underneath it. I geared up and took a look at the clock – I’d have to get back into civvies in two hours, but that would allow me plenty of time to make a couple of rounds through the floor.
In the week between Zip Con and Great Lakes, I had completely reworked the left arm so that it now held a staff. The hand, staff, and arm were all one piece, repainted and sculpted out of Great Stuff and PVC but this would be my first time walking around with it. I’d also drilled a hole in the neck connector so that I could drop a nail through the joint, securing the head to keep it from falling off again. There in the front hall, I had people coming up to me for photos before I had even completely suited up. After my experience at Zip Con and with the addition of the staff I was feeling much better about this costume and was happy to see how well received it was at the show. One young man in his twenties came up to me and told me he recognized it – not from the new Netflix series, but because his parents used to play the movie for him all the time on VHS! Another person confided in me that The Dark Crystal was one of the few films that genuinely scared him as a kid and gave him nightmares. I smiled and told him I was glad to have contributed to his psychosis.
As I made my way to the back of the convention floor, the people over at Guy Gilchrist’s table spotted me. Gilchrist is a Henson alumni, and bills himself as Jim Henson’s cartoonist. His assistant jabbed at his arm, drawing his attention up and away from the piece he was working on. His eyes widened in amazement and he exhaled deeply in wonder. He invited me over to get photos and showed me a photo of him with Jim Henson “This was taken right around the time he was creating you!”. It meant a lot to hear how impressed he was with the costume, he insisted on signing a Dark Crystal print for me and told me to come pick it up once I was out of costume.
I checked the time, Tom DeFalco‘s panel was about to start and I figured I’d be able to make it through about half of it at least before I have to shuffle out of the suit. Some of the con staff were nice enough to open the door to the panel room for me and I slipped into the back corner. DeFalco was just beginning his talk and had been handing out notes. He grabbed the moderator and handed a stack f papers to him and then pointed to the back.
“…and let’s get one of these over to the… Creature… In the back.”
I enjoyed DeFalco’s talk about his approach to creating comics. This is another one of those things that great Lakes does really well, and I remember having a similar reaction when they brought Jim Shooter in for a talk much like this. I was disappointed when I had to slip out, but time is ticking away and I wanted to be in normal clothes to meet Jim Starlin.
I carried my bundle out to the car and decided it would be too much trouble to get the lizard feet off (they are the hardest part of the costume, and it always takes me forever to wriggle out of them. I usually don’t take them off until I get home actually) and decided to just put my jeans back on over top of them. It had warmed up enough that I left my leather jacket in the car and just wore my sweater, topping it off with a hat to cover my hair, mussed from the costume.
Starlin himself was warm and congenial.
“Batman was always my hero,” he told me. “ I mean back then, it was either superman Batman or wonder woman – and then maybe a little bit later the fly or the Jaguar, but it was really mostly Superman Batman and Wonder Woman”
He looked at my copy of Death in the Family as he was signing it.
“It was a shame, after we killed off Robin, somebody in merchandising realized it was a problem, and all of a sudden I was kind of persona non grata at DC. Work just dried up. Fortunately, there were some openings over at Marvel and I ended up working on a little thing call the Infinity Gauntlet – so I can’t complain too much!”
Before I got back into the costume, where I would stay for the remainder of the show, I managed to swing through and do a bit more shopping. No quarter bins, but plenty of 50 Cent bins and I managed to score some Punisher and Green Hornet. I was shocked when I discovered a bunch of Hulk and Star Trek issues in one those 50 Cent bins, all signed by writer Peter David. David is one of my favorite writers and I actually go out of my way to meet him at Hall of Fame Comicon a couple of years ago. I can’t for the life of me understand why these are in the discount boxes, but I wasn’t complaining. I grabbed as many as I could find and came home with a stack of new stuff to read.
I spent the last two hours of the show back in the Skeksis outfit. I hadn’t realized how much muscle it would take to carry around the staff. It’s not that it was heavy, just that used muscles in my forearm that I’m not used to flexing all the time! About an hour before the costume contest, I saw a familiar costume style walk in, a cosplayer I’d seen around Michigan a few times – he’d spent most of the day in a diffrent costume, but now was in his new hydra suit which managed to place during the costume contest. Backstage and waiting for the contest to proceed, I had fun fooling around with some of the other contestants – hypnotizing one of them with my staff and joking with some of the others. This time with the other cosplayers is consistently my favorite part about doing costume contests – it’s not about whether you win or lose, it’s about who you get to know!
As the show drew to a close, I slunk out quickly and quietly- exhausted and ready to hit the nearest McDonald’s for some hydration on the way home. Still, despite my fatigue, I had fun and can’t wait to come back.
Great Lakes Comic Con 2020 I’ll say this for Great Lakes Comic Con, I never fail to have a good time there – it’s always been a good show all the way back to…
