Soulmate marks are indicative of your soulmate's favorite thing.
And one of the batkids has absolutely none.
Sure, they've got freckles (an embarrassing amount, actually), scars, the occasional beauty mark; but no soulmark.
This means a few things; their soulmate doesn't exist, they haven't been born yet, or that they died before said batkid was born.
Seeing as Soulmates can be entirely platonic, even becoming family units later, not getting a soulmate until later in life is not unheard of.
So that batkid is waiting for their soulmate to be born, lowkey embarrassed that they're going to inevitably follow in Bruce's footsteps.
Until a chance encounter with a Soulmark specialist while they're in their civvies changes absolutely everything with one sentence.
"Oh wow, your soulmate must love stars to cover you up with the constellations of them."

The world without magic is weird in some ways, for everyone, but it's even worse for the ones who have always used it, whenever it was necessary. Mid remembers how Joshua always has this little fireball around him whenever it was dark. There are so many things he needs to learn again, without this magic, and it's surely a bit unpleasant because it has always been there for him, but Mid is willing to help as much as she can.
When Mid suggests they start a fire to just sit and relax because it's getting late and they are still quite far from the Hideaway, she notices the confusion on Joshua's face, and she chuckles softly. "Yes, I know how to light a fire, and I brought everything we need. Cid taught me years ago. What would you do without me, mmh ?" she teases, squeezing his hand gently before she sits, getting everything started.
"Just look." Flint, wood, steel. It's really not that complicated, but it probably can seem complicated for someone who'd used magic for his entire life. In a short moment, the fire was lighten. Mid smiles proudly before she leans her head on Joshua's shoulder. "Next time, you'll do it, and you'll be coached by your dear Lady Midadol!" she suggests happily.

There's this one Odyssey translation I've read (okay, listened to- it was an audiobook) where Telemachus addressed Eumaeus as 'father Eumaeus' while Odysseus was in the same room.
In my head, Odysseus was lowkey jealous of Eumaeus to hear his son call him 'father' and the next scenario after he reveals his identity goes-
Telemachus: "So father, what do we do now?"
Odysseus: *sulking* "..."
Telemachus: "Father?"
Odysseus: "Call me dad."
