🤯😭😢 My expressions when I realised the common thread linking (nearly all) my favourite female characters from KDrama-land. All were products of a single parent home (single mother) and in three of them, TG, IHYV and BE, the mothers of the FCs were murdered either onscreen or offscreen. OMG, that’s truly horrifying and tragic 😭😭😭
(Made me love them even more 😭😢)
There are good reasons why I especially love “Coffee Prince” and “I Hear Your Voice”. Their treatment of their FCs were some of the most satisfying and beautiful for their respective genres, and never fail to give me the best kind of buzz (despite their difficult beginnings). And TG and BE have painted a gorgeous - if painful - portraiture of “strength” in surviving trauma for their (main) female characters.
(Though I have to admit that I do not like BE - at all - on a personal level despite thinking it is a brilliant show. However, I do love Yoo Jae Yi with no qualifications, so there is that).

True friendship is not measured by the length of time you've known each other, but by the depth of the bond you've built.
The family of #IHYV is a testament to this, as we've grown together over the past 10 years and our connection only continues to strengthen
My @jongsuk0206 #LeeJongSuk is life.

I’m disappointed that WYWS devolved into a typical procedural/case-per-episode legal drama. There was so much potential to be more original!!!

a few people seem confused as to why people are so disgusted by Backstreet Rookie
“but you watched Goblin and I Hear Your Voice” you say in a gotcha tone
so lets go over the webtoon this lovely drama is based off:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they meet, she gets him to buy her cigarettes squeezing his arm into her chest - he “looks” mad but he gives in
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as a thank you, she kisses him - to which he responds by weirdly flapping his tongue...
*vomits*
he goes home....and thinks about her
he was supposedly mad before, but whats the last thing he does before we get to the 3 year time jump?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he jacks off.
so yes, perhaps the age gaps in IHYV or Goblin weren’t preferable - but last i checked neither were about the sexualisation of a 17 y/o and a 29 y/o man who gets off thinking about her.
the director literally had to say the drama is "far from the point of concern in the original work" - he knows what his source is, he knows its disgusting and frankly if you ask me, him trying to take such a story and making it "family friendly" is him normalising such disgusting behavior ("oh its an innocent love" kind of thing)

Start up ep 1-3
Finally watched this and awwwwww what a good and heartwarming feels so far. Really love ep 1 (i cried a lot). Everyone deserves a better life and lot s of love (except mom and in jae maybe). I know many people roots for Ji Pyeong (because it's Kim Seon Ho) and his character is very caring and lovable. Love his relationship with Grandma.
I also love Dalmi (Suzy is so so damn prettyyyy). I love and rooting for her character success.
I also love Nam Do San character, he's just so innocent, and kind. I actually love both of the ML. I didn't care with who Dalmi will end up with. I care for their Samsan tech success though.
This drama written by while you were sleeping, IHYV and Pinochio writer right? I can see Kim Seon Ho character will be like Jung Hae In in WYWS.

Reliving the feels from “I Hear Your Voice” (2013) before it leaves Netflix.
I love this drama for its simplicity, fable-like and humanistic themes/messages. The main pairing also ticked off all the boxes for some of my favourite tropes/ship dynamics. As a total package of writing, themes, characters and “romance”, there is no KDrama I love more than IHYV (so far). An emotive, heartwarming, heartbreaking, funny and satisfying show from the beginning till the end.
While I have had the good fortune to watch quite a number of remarkable female protagonists in KDramas, Jang Hye Seong (as well as Go Eun Chan and Kang Gil Young) have remained top favourites, and her relationship with Park Su Ha also one I treasure above many.
(Though not being partial to Lee Jong Seok, I have had to warm up to the character. By the end, however, PSH became one of that rare KDrama male characters which I love, so PSH will always have a special place in my heart).

TIDBIT's
Staff love explosion lately.
Lee Jong Suk is pretty decent person.
I work in TV, and I’d already heard a lot about him from staff members who worked on ‘IHYV’. But now that I have seen it for myself, I can testify that the rumours are not just rumours.
He is like a child sometimes, but is instantly serious and earnest towards his work and other people. He is very humble despite his youth.
When Lee Soon Jae sunbaenim was waiting backstage, he looked at the list of Top 10s Stars and smiled when he saw Lee Jong Suk’s name; he said that they were in a sitcom together a little while back and that he is a good kid who works hard on his acting. We were so surprised to hear that, because this sunbaenim is famous for seldom praising people.
It’s only after you meet Lee Jong Suk that you understand how he just gives this aura of pleasantness. His friendliness is not an act but quite natural — making you feel that it is just how he acts normally.
His lack of “star disease” makes people like him, his lack of “actor disease” makes you like him even more, and his utter lack of arrogance just wins you completely over.
Since I work at a TV station, I often feel that the people who are obsessed stars are quite embarrassing (T/N: probably because this person knows what the stars are actually like). But I think Lee Jong Suk is deserving of your love, he is really a good actor.

So I realize as I am rewatching W that the reason I fell down the Lee Jong Suk rabbit hole now was because I was watching the new Lee Min Ho drama, King The Eternal Monarch, and was thinking “Ah, parallel universe and figuring it out. This is kind of like W.” But obviously I would not jump to watching W because I am going to watch I Hear Your Voice  first because it is much better. But now I have been through Pinnoccio and IHYV and we’re in W  and oh my GOD!  Why is this poor man constantly being cast as a traumatized orphan with eventual amnesia?
Also - HE SHOT HER. It never fails to piss me off. But seriously, LJS went through a tortured orphan phase and it was quite intense.
Also the first rule of parallel universes is that you WILL end up incarcerated. This poor girl. Lee Min Ho managed to get out pretty quickly but I just remembered that LJS in W is going to force her to write herself out of his memory and she ends up stuck in the comic and starving and yeesh W is a LOT.
I could see a dramedy with a cell full of people who all ended up there because of having no identity.

I like period dramas (I am watching My Country on Netflix and I am loving it so far through the tears), I like tasteful romances but not ones where the female character seemingly has no personality and all she ever does is get in situations where she needs to be protected or saved by said male. I also don’t like heavy stuff like drugs, sex, murders and excessive gore. I would like to hear your personal favorites too?
You have excellent taste, and by that I mean it mirrors mine :)
All of the below are personal faves that should meet your criteria. No wimpy heroines, serious dose of romance, no drugs and murder grossness.
The Princess’ Man - a period drama about star-crossed lovers - she is the cherished daughter of a royal who plans a coup, he is the scholar son of a loyal family. Angst, romance, gorgeousness, tough moral heroine, hero who goes from funny and chill to destroyed wreck and back to sane, etc. On viki.
Worlds Within - a slice of life and romance between TV directors and the most addicting perfect thing ever. On viki.
Moonlight Drawn By Clouds - a lighter period romance with the heroine having to pretend to be a eunuch and having a romance with a progressive crown prince. on viki.
Queen In Hyun’s Man - our heroine is an aspiring actress, our hero is an 18th century scholar who acquires the power to time travel to the present under perilous conditions. This one is sheer perfection - smart and swoony and amazing. On viki.
Healer - despite the name, not a medical drama :) Our hero is an errand person (think errands involving danger) and heroine an investigative reporter. Conspiracies, true love, and hilariousness as she treats his meek alter ego as a friend. On viki.
City Hunter - one of my most rewatched faves. Our hero has been taken from his mother and brought up as a tool of vengeance by a man I labeled as Daddy Satan. He finally sends his finely honed tool to Korea but he doesn’t count on his coming across spunky and warm presidential bodyguard, cohabitation, and all the other amazingness. If you love tough OTPs, feral boys becoming human and general awesomeness. On viki.
Haechi - it’s about intrigues, crimes and a polymath’s path to the throne. I love it. On viki.
Slave Hunters - one of my all time favorites and arguably the best period kdrama I have ever seen (and you get to see Jang Hyuk who plays Bang Won in MC in arguably his most famous role). A former nobleman turned slave hunter, a slave woman pretending to be a noblewoman, and a general made a slave intersect paths on an epic collision course. On amazon prime.
It’s OK It’s Love/Padam Padam/That Winter the Wind Blows - gorgeous melos with amazing cast and nuance. The first one is rather lighter than the last two. First two on viki, last one on netflix.
Encounter - A romance between a high powered lady executive and a very nice younger man, this one is so mellow and yet involving. On viki.
Gloria - if you want something longer and slice of lifey and dramatic all at once. This baby is 50 eps.  It’s worth it though. It follows a bunch of characters - a hardworking woman who has to take care of her disabled sister and dreams of being a singer, an icy tormented illegitimate son of a rich family, a small time gangster, a suicidal ballerina. It’s wonderful. on viki.
Faith/The Great Doctor - that’s the one I am rewatching now. A modern day plastic surgeon dragged to a fantasy version of 14th century Korea by a skilled warrior with an enormous death wish in order to heal a dying queen. If you like Outlander minus all the grossness and the raping and what not. On viki.
Mr. Sunshine - solid, gorgeously filmed period drama set at the turn of the century revolving around a bunch of disparate Koreans dealing with Japanese occupation. The first ep is hard going and has some odd english but it’s excellent after that. On netflix.
Pinocchio/I Hear Your Voice/While You Were Sleeping - all on viki. These three have the same writer/star team and are awesome. Pinocchio involves rookie reporters but also the OTP is a girl who has a (made up) condition where she cannot tell a lie and the guy is a survivor of a brutal family tragedy and they grow up together; IHYV is my fave of the three and is about a burned out lady prosecutor and a young man who can read people’s thoughts who are tied together by a tragic event (OTP is OMG) and WYWS is about people who can see the future in their dreams.
Extraordinary You - my favorite kdrama of all time, aired earlier this year. Our protagonist realizes that she is just that - a character in a comic book, and a minor one with a tragic set up at that. She decides to change that. It starts out as a funny high school story and becomes a heartbreaking, swoony lesson in metaphysics. This one is probably better if you at least read some manga before. On viki.
Crash landing on you - airing now (on netflix) - my current obsession. The premise is nuts (a rich SK heiress accidentally gets blown to NK and is helped by a sexy NK captain) but the execution is amazing.
Goblin - an immortal goblin (think a cursed human) who used to be a legendary general, seeks to find a “goblin bride,” the one woman who can end his existence. His paths cross with a student who can see supernatural entities, a grim reaper who remembers nothing of his past, and an idiosyncratic chicken shop owner. This one is everything. On viki.
W-Two Worlds - our heroine is a daughter of a comic artist who can cross into the comic world. Our hero is the comic protagonist who has just discovered his whole world and past are a fake and a lie and a story. On viki.
Bridal Mask/Gaksital - I have no idea if it’s your bag but I love it. In 1930s occupied Korea, a Japanese collaborator ends up being a freedom fighter. It has everything. On viki.
I’d love to rec Legend: the First King’s Four Gods or Empress Ki but I don’t know legit sites that have them.
I didn’t post MVs because some people don’t like the spoilers even that minor, but I’ve always found those are a good way to check things out.
I can keep this going for a looooong time, I’ve been watching kdramas since 2006 :)
ETA: can’t believe I forgot IRIS!!! But only the first installment.

I do not have my shit together this week. My life is probably going to go through several upheavals in the next few months before it settles. I’ve applied to a local coding school in order to change careers. I don’t know if Ive been accepted yet, but I do have some prework I need to focus on. I don’t know what this transition means for my writing, so we will just fumble through this together ^^;;
So, a game ^^;;
The Rules:
Pick a character or characters from any of my current works–nothing new please. Romance, bromance, sismance, and friendships are all welcome and encouraged!
Pick a prompt from this list (a number between 1 and 31 is fine)
You may request five prompts, but each prompt needs to be a separate ask AND follow the format or it will be ignored
For the dramas with more than one story you will need to tell me which story and which ship or I will just pick for you
Off Limits: Silver Lining–YoungSang; Silent Scream–YoungSang The reason is that I’m working with a specific outline and drabbles might interfere. All other relationships in those stories are open.
I will write a drabble for each request.
If you want any of your requests to be treated as Anon, just tell me and I will make a separate post instead of answering the ask.
If you send extra requests, I will hold onto them, but there is no guarantee I will answer them any time during the run of the game.
I’ll make a post closing the game, but it’ll be open until probably Thursday.
Ask Box is HERE
Here is what your request should look like:
17, Letters from the Joseon, IHYV
Here is what I’ll respond with:
“There is just something about him.”
It has been two weeks since Soo-Ha returned to her. She put Kwan-Woo off long enough and there was some information she needed to give him. They walk through the market and she tries to keep her eyes open for anything interesting but she keeps getting distracted by her thoughts of Soo-Ha.
Her past husband and Kwan-Woo both had pleasing bodies and both of them cared for her past mindless rutting. For some reason she expected a younger man to be more selfish with his body.
But Soo-Ha held her after they made love. He spoke to her during the act. There was something very generous about him.
“Are you sure about inviting him into your household? You are a widow and people talk.”
“I’m sure. He’s very insightful, Kwan-Woo. I think if you spent more time with him, you would understand why I...He’s asked that I not invite you over anymore. I told him that these walks were too important to give up but I can respect his request.”
“And that is why I don’t spend more time with him,” Kwan-Woo mutters.
