India is a very big country and so is our economy which manifests and bifurcates in numerous market domains, such as agriculture, manufacturing, retail, transport and logistics, IT, space exploration, education and training and so many others.
Now, cutting short to Robotics and its engineering, this field has a great potential and unleashes benefits of a wide spectrum but then, this country also suffers a dearth of talent and skills which is a blow deathly enough to hold back our advance of progress.
Tech news updates in India are valuable knowledge.

Can BSc Data Science take over vanilla BTech/BE - Times of India
Tumblr media
Time to move with the flow as an unprecedented growth will be seen in AI, Machine Learning, E-commerce, Blockchain technology while demand for vanilla engineering degrees will fade out With the heavy usage of Data Analytics and AI to build predictive models for corona patient and infection identification, data scientists will be in high demand in a post-covid world. While this might accelerate the demand for data science courses, the vanilla BE/BTech degrees would need a strong AI component with at least a minor specialisation to help solve real-world problems.
“Institutes must realise and embrace this change proactively and offer focussed courses on AI/ML at both UG and PG levels. There is also a need to carry out research in these fields in healthcare related topics and encourage entrepreneurship using AI/ML technologies,” says Ranjan Bose, director, IIT Delhi. He adds further, “The world is evolving at a phenomenal rate, and so is the demand for new areas in engineering. In the post-covid world, we expect to see unprecedented growth in the areas covered by AMOEBA: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Optical Communications, E-commerce, Blockchain technology and Autonomous Vehicles. This is going to drive industrial growth with a rising demand for engineering education in these domains.”
But then, even as AI, and data science continue to hold sway, there is a need to make each engineering stream industry-relevant, by infusing AI-related courses. “CSE, EE, AI and DataScience have been lucrative fields for the last few years (or decades), and this does not seem to go away soon. Ultimately, if each engineering field trains students on contemporary technologies used in the industry and more sectors of the industry are opened up locally, hopefully, all engineering fields will have good prospects in terms of career growth and remuneration,” says Vineeth N Balasubramanian, head, Department of Artificial Intelligence, IIT Hyderabad.
Way back in the 1980s, BE/BTech degrees in India were gateways to live the American dream, fuelled further by the growth of the IT and ITES industry. However, their demand started to plateau post 2008. “The IT and ITES firms continue to hire engineers due to lack of any other better option and invest substantially in training them to be data scientists and AI specialists,” says Sundar Raj Vijayanagar, board member of Vijaybhoomi University.
“But over the years, the need for AI-skilled engineers even before the pandemic has become imperative, which is why a student majoring in civil engineering and pursuing a minor in AI will be more in demand than a vanilla civil engineer. This is due to the wide application of AI in all fields to ensure optimised use of scarce and expensive resources,” Vijayanagar reasons.
Citing the Linkedin Emerging Jobs Report 2020, he states there are currently over 1.50 lakh positions open for a qualified data scientist in India alone. This number is expected to grow multi-fold in the coming few years. As per this report the top three emerging jobs of the future are AI specialist, robotic engineer and data scientist. A reason why, it is time to move with the flow.

On a song: A Yakshagana performance in progress at Jeppu in Mangaluru on Monday. Yakshagana is one of the most popular folk theatre forms of Karnataka. It is noted for its music, colourful costumes, vigorous dance movements, subtle expressions and extempore dialogues. Yakshagana has two main variations, each of which has many variations: Moodalapaya (the eastern form which is popular in north Karnataka) and Paduvalapaya (western style also known as coastal Yakshagana). Of the two, the coastal Yakshagana is more popular for the great sophistication that it has achieved over the years by the efforts of artistes, thinkers and researchers. Paduvalapaya is performed in three coastal districts of Karnataka‒Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada.  TRADITIONAL STAGE  Regardless of where the Yakshagana is performed, at the back of the stage there is always a raised bench or table on which two persons (bhagavata or the playback singer and maddalegara, the artist who plays the percussion instrument maddale) can sit. In the region with Mangalore at its centre (which includes Mangalore, Sullia, Puttur, Sampaaje, Bantwala, Belthangady, Karkala, Kasaragod (Kerala), Kodagu etc.) the tenkuthittu or the southern style is dominant       IASbhai WINDUP:  HALF DISAPPEARED It was estimated that Karnataka had about 8,000 Yakshagana scripts. Of them, half might have disappeared due to various reasons. The teamwork by about 100 professionals, including software engineers, has resulted in conservation of 934 scripts in the digital form in less than a year of launching the project. The number of digitised scripts is expected to touch 1,000 by March-end. Scientists identify drug candidates against virus
HEADLINES: Scientists identify drug candidates against virus       WHY IN NEWS: They investigated 26 of the SARS-CoV-2’s 29 genes, which direct production of the viral proteins SYLLABUS COVERED: GS 3:Diseases       LEARNING:  For PRELIMS the whole world is experimenting with drugs ! You should be aware of this latest update .       ISSUE:  Nearly 70 drugs and experimental compounds may be effective in treating the COVID-19 disease, a team of researchers reported on Sunday night.
Tumblr media
A researcher working on a vaccine against COVID-19 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Some of the medications are already used to treat other diseases, and repurposing them to treat COVID-19 may be faster than trying to invent a new anti-viral from scratch. To come up with the list, hundreds of researchers embarked on an unusual study of the genes of the coronavirus, also called SARS-CoV-2. To infect a lung cell, the virus must insert its genes, co-opting the cell’s own genetic machinery. The cell begins to produce viral proteins, which are used to produce millions of new viruses. Each of those viral proteins must be able to latch onto the necessary human proteins for the process to work. FINDING: In the new study, the scientists investigated 26 of the virus’s 29 genes, which direct production of the viral proteins. Researchers found 332 human proteins targeted by the virus. Some viral proteins seemed to target just one human protein; other viral proteins are capable of targeting a dozen human cellular proteins. Researchers sought drugs that also latch onto the human proteins that the virus seems to need to enter and replicate in human cells. Intriguingly, some of the possible treatments are drugs used to attack parasites. And the list includes antibiotics that kill bacteria by gumming up the cellular machinery they use to build proteins. But some of those drugs also attach to human proteins. The new study raises the possibility that this side effect might turn out to be an anti-viral treatment. One drug on the list: CHLOROQUINE: kills the single-celled parasite that causes malaria. Scientists have long known that it can also attach to a human cellular protein called the sigma-1 receptor. And that receptor is also the target of the virus.       IASbhai WINDUP:  The World Health Organization announced it would begin a trial on chloroquine, among other drugs.      SOURCES:THE HINDU/DAILY CURRENT AFFAIRS for UPSC CSE Prelims & Mains

Sense of the House: Lok Sabha members, led by Narendra Modi, applaud the work of health workers. The decision was taken before the House convened at 2 p.m. (later than the usual time of 11 a.m. as flight disruptions delayed the arrival of MPs to Delhi) after a meeting was held by Speaker Om Birla with floor leaders of various parties. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said it was an extraordinary situation and that the Finance Bill needed to be passed. Adjournment sine die means dismissing a sitting of Parliament for an unspecified period. In other words, when the House is suspended without naming a day for reassembly, it is known as adjournment sine die. The ultimate authority of adjournment sine die lies with the presiding officer of the House(Speaker).
