“Sometimes, it takes a wrong turn to get you to beautiful places.” I was on my usual weekend hike when I decided to take an unfamiliar route. It was 8 am and there weren’t too many hikers around. As I decided to go deep into the woods, no one was down that trail but I went anyway even though I know that there is a good chance I’d encounter wild animal/s such as bobcats, coyotes, or a mountain lion 😂. Ahh the adventurer in me - something I never knew about myself until I moved to Thousand Oaks from Manila. I walk further and found a picnic spot and sat down on this wooden, dirty bench. The calming rustling sound of the trees and the sound of the flow of the water in the creek made me think of the things I have been through and wow... I just realized that it has been good 8 years since I decided to heal.. and it was amazing… Similar to getting lost in this hiking trail, was me - in many times - got lost in life. Looking back at the memory of turning my back away from the toxic lifestyle, beliefs, habits, and people - was hard but otherwise, empowering. Eventually, finding my true self just like how this dirty trail led me to beautiful hidden places I didn’t know existed. I appreciate and love my life more than ever. With it, a changed mindset. Instead of worrying or fearing not finding my way out, I started to trust and try my best to have the courage to keep going. I know now that getting lost is a redirection that was meant for me. Deep within I knew that things didn't work out because it wasn't for my highest good. I didn't understand the why at the time but I chose to trust. Years later, the "why" became clear. I understood why things happened the way they did and im so grateful for the dead ends and the redirections. It's so clear to me now that everything was indeed happening for me even when it didn't seem like it at the time. Overcoming the fear of getting lost / failing / being out of your comfort zone: If you dare to do it, the reward of finding yourself again and taking on new perspectives may be just around the corner.
