Walking into this commercial arcade in San Juan, you immediately sense the harmony between the architect and the structural engineer. The interior atrium opens with a stunning expanse that bathes in natural light, creating an inviting and vibrant atmosphere. This openness, combined with the thoughtful orientation of the building, allows for seamless transitions between different areas. The split levels add a dynamic aspect to the space, with strategically placed ramps and walkways ensuring that it remains accessible to all. The exposed steel framing provides robust structural support and lends an industrial elegance to the overall design. This collaboration between designers showcases refined tastes and thoughtful creativity, creating a community-centric hub that stands out.

The inclusive collaboration design process between the Akasha Academy and Team SMA has been awarded by the international STIR (See Think Inspire Reflect) editorial team with an extensive article publication in the category THINK.
Thank you STIR, Amit, Soumya, Devanshi, Prachi and Jerry for the well-timed feature as we just embarked on the third phase of the collaboration. The article talks about the journey, with the fantastic members of the Akasha Academy, of embracing natural sloping land and design with nature to create an inspiring, healthy, self-sufficient and meaningful environment. It is about listening to the land, finding out where the land was happy and where it was hurting.
We are glad to share with you the most recent situation of the stabilization of a serious 2020 landslide. The Gabion walls, Utis (Alder) trees and Vetiver grass are doing well. A bamboo pavilion will soon follow. Stay tuned!

I found something interesting at LAX! Toilets for pets? Airports have always been designed for people in transit, but good design remembers that travelers come in all shapes, sizes, and species. A door like this marked Pet Relief Area might seem like a small detail, but it speaks to how architecture adapts when we finally acknowledge the full spectrum of those who move through a space. Travel is stressful, unpredictable, and sometimes dehumanizing, but for the lucky few on four legs, at least someone thought to carve out a moment of comfort.

The commercial arcade in San Juan is a brilliant example of the extraordinary results achieved when an architect and a structural engineer collaborate seamlessly. The interior atrium, with its openness and abundant natural light, promotes a sense of community and interaction. The building’s orientation and split levels ensure a seamless flow, with well-designed ramps and wide walkways making the space accessible. The steel framing, both functional and aesthetically appealing, demonstrates the refined tastes and creativity of the design team. This harmonious blend of architectural vision and engineering expertise has resulted in a beautiful and functional space serving as a dynamic community hub. Job well done!
