Driveway gates are a fantastic investment since they offer many benefits
Tumblr media
Any property would be enhanced by the addition of a driveway gate. They are aesthetically pleasing, they provide more security, they add value to your home as well as many other benefits. In fact, many of the most beautiful homes on the market today have driveway gates. Even though they may not be for everyone, if you have the budget to build a fence structure in your driveway, a gate could be a great option. When deciding to incorporate a driveway gate into your property, make sure to consider a few things in the following list:
Safety
Vessels that are unwanted
Style of the Royals
Children’s Protection
Safety in Operations
The operational settings
Keypad with security features
Need a driveway gate installation service provider in the local area? Then look no further. We build, install, and design gates for driveways throughout Dallas. The materials we use, such as wood, vinyl, and chain link, are of the highest quality.
Putting in Automatic Driveway Gates Is What We Specialize
At EverLast gates, electric driveway gate motors are available for both residential and commercial security gates. In situations where you may be running behind schedule, this helps to ensure smooth business flow. We offer automatic motors that come with 2 remotes and a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty.
No matter the gate’s flow, we only use high-quality Lift Master motors to ensure that it will be able to withstand wear and tear. Every time the gate slides open and closed, a v-track ensures alignment. For swing gates, we calibrate the gates so that they open only to the point where they are needed, preventing overextension or damage. The wiring and installation of any gate can be done by us, no matter what type of gate you are having installed.
Why Do People Keep Their Trust On Us?
The experts on our team have built all kinds of fences and gates in Dallas for years. Our company takes pride in being able to help customers not only with driveway gate installation but also educate them on how to maintain them so they will last for a long time.
No matter what type of fence project you decide to have built, we guarantee that you will know exactly what you need to accomplish after our visit to your project site. The Future of Communication: How Intercom Systems Improve Security and Convenience
Intercom systems have long been a staple in communication and security, providing a simple yet effective means of connecting people across different locations. Originally, these systems were limited to basic audio devices used within buildings, allowing users to communicate with visitors or other rooms. However, with the rapid advancement of technology, intercom systems have evolved significantly. Today’s systems integrate video, wireless connectivity, and smart technology, offering more functionality than ever before.
In today's tech-driven world, where security and communication are top priorities, intercom systems have become increasingly relevant. Their ability to combine ease of use, security features, and the convenience of modern technology makes them an essential part of both residential and commercial environments. Not only do they enhance safety by providing an extra layer of protection through controlled access, but they also improve communication by offering a seamless way to connect with visitors, staff, or family members. These dual benefits—enhanced security and improved communication—make intercom systems a powerful tool for modern living and working spaces.
What Are Intercom Systems?
Intercom systems are communication devices that allow users to converse over short distances within a building or between locations. Traditionally used for security and communication, they enable users to speak with visitors at the door or communicate across rooms without moving physically. These systems work through audio or video, providing secure and efficient communication in both residential and commercial spaces.
Intercoms facilitate two-way communication. Audio systems allow voice exchanges, while video intercoms add the ability to see the person on the other side, enhancing security and convenience.
There are several types of intercom systems:
Wired Intercom Systems: Traditional, reliable systems that use communication cables, ideal for larger buildings where long-term, stable communication is needed.
Wireless Intercom Systems: Use radio frequencies or Wi-Fi for easy installation in environments where wiring is difficult or unnecessary, offering flexibility.
Video Intercom Systems: Combine audio and video for visual identification of visitors, commonly used in home security, apartments, and offices.
Smart Intercom Systems: Integrate with smartphones, tablets, and home automation, offering features like remote access, cloud storage, and integration with cameras or smart locks, making them customizable and convenient.
Tumblr media
How Intercom Systems Improve Security
a. Access Control Intercom systems serve as a crucial first line of defense by controlling access to buildings, homes, and restricted areas. With features like remote unlocking and visitor identification, users can easily manage who enters their property. Video intercoms add an extra layer of security by allowing visual verification of visitors. Some systems also integrate with smart locks for seamless, secure access.
b. Real-Time Communication Intercoms enable instant communication with visitors or potential intruders, improving response times. Video intercoms enhance security by providing visual identification, helping users quickly assess whether it’s safe to grant access. This real-time interaction reduces the risk of unauthorized entry and enhances overall security.
c. Integration with Other Security Solutions Modern intercom systems seamlessly integrate with CCTV cameras, alarms, and smart locks, creating a more cohesive security network. By connecting with cameras, intercoms allow users to view live footage before interacting with visitors. Integration with alarms or smart locks enhances protection, ensuring a well-rounded security solution.
How Intercom Systems Improve Convenience
a. Hands-Free Communication Intercoms allow users to communicate without opening doors or moving to another area, offering greater convenience with minimal effort.
b. Remote Access and Control Smart intercoms with mobile apps enable remote management of access, making it easier to control entry from anywhere.
c. Versatility in Different Environments Intercom systems are versatile, serving homes, offices, apartment complexes, and industrial sites, improving communication efficiency in any setting.
The Future of Intercom Systems
Intercom systems are evolving with new technologies like AI integration, voice assistants, and IoT capabilities, making them smarter and more intuitive. AI can enable voice recognition and situation analysis, while voice assistants allow hands-free control.
As intercoms integrate with smart home ecosystems, they will work seamlessly with devices like lights, thermostats, and security cameras, enhancing convenience and security.
Future intercoms may feature facial recognition, automated visitor logging, and smarter access control, further improving safety and efficiency for homes and businesses.
Why You Should Invest in an Intercom System
Investing in an intercom system enhances security, boosts convenience, and future-proofs your property. These systems offer better access control, real-time communication, and integration with other security solutions, keeping your space safe.
As technology evolves, intercoms provide features like remote access and AI integration, helping you stay ahead. By adopting these innovations, you ensure peace of mind and greater efficiency for your home or business.

So the recent reblog made me think, can I get a one shot where Reader is in love with Painter, and gets a chance to fix him since his document says the damage from his overclocking is repairable, but they have to wrestle with the idea of "what if the instability is what I love about painter? What if I fix him and he's so different we aren't really compatible anymore?"
I may have a fascination with "Being in love with someone but then they change for the better and are unrecognizable"
"You mean to tell me...they could have fixed me after all this time?"
"Yeah, but I doubt they would've told you that." You muttered as you tapped away on some computer, while Painter remained hooked up to some wires and cables on the nearby desk.
Running diagnostics on an 80s-styled computer who had the processors of a supercomputer was no simple task, but after checking his document and doing a great deal of research, you've finally gotten to the root of the problem and learned how fixable it was.
All you had to do was replace his hardware and personality drivers, which were fried and severely degredated due to his frequent overclocking attempts.
Ever since his owner was murdered by some stupid "AI prompters" at Urbanshade, he's been trying to basically kill himself--but they only cared because he was too valuable as a digital mining machine, giving him promises to revisit the surface every six days so he could paint as much as he wished.
Yet he had lost that passion, along with whatever "good" personality he may have had before all of this happened.
But by some miracle, you got him out of the blacksite.
During the Expendable protocol, they tasked you with destroying him due to the immense loss of life he caused thanks to Sebastian hooking him up to the NAVI system, enabling him to misguide operatives and gun down whoever he pleased with the turrets.
You had a different plan, though, and had them convinced you destroyed him--when in reality, Sebastian helped you smuggle him out and away from the blacksite in a box.
You had plans to quit Urbanshade after the lockdown, anyways, being one of the few survivors who knew fully well what Painter was capable of.
Not only that, but you were the only person who truly showed him sympathy over his loss.
You've scheduled interviews with him, which were really just excuses for you to talk with and get to know him better, wanting to understand what his owner was like and how badly he missed painting.
Most days, he was too depressed to talk, and even got angry and shut himself off when he believed you were trying to get inside his head.
Then one day, he turned over a new leaf and created another piece of art for you--something he hasn't put effort into for the longest time.
It was a beautiful valley. His ideal place to live, where he could see the clouds and the birds and the sky anytime he wanted to. Without Urbanshade telling him what to do and how long he could watch.
That image was mysteriously uploaded to your phone, but nobody in the company has questioned it, so you have it as your lockscreen.
Since then, he's warmed up to you a lot more. But he was still quite moody, his unstable drivers making it hard to predict his behavior from day to day.
That didn't deter you from wanting to spend more time with him, and as strange as it was...you felt drawn to the AI. You didn't like chatting with your coworkers as much, and even while in containment himself several months prior to the lockdown, Sebastian sarcastically asked if you were "in love" with Painter.
Your silence told him everything.
During the containment breach, you've seen Painter and overheard his voice on the intercoms he hijacked, gunning down people right before your eyes and luring Z-96 around the facility, although for some reason he never noticed you.
You feared he was too far gone in his newfound bloodlust, seeing all Urbanshade personnel as his enemies.
Still, you wanted to get him out of there and began working on a plan as soon as you were rescued.
After joining someone's expedition disguised as a prisoner, you stayed behind in the heavy containment unit where Painter's main body resided.
At first, he was annoyed and angry...until he recognized your face.
You managed to pull off the great heist when somebody finally got the crystal, taking advantage of the distractions to bring him to a remote location above the surface where Urbanshade couldn't track you.
Now you just had to fix what they've broken.
It didn't take long for Painter to figure out that you liked him, even after all the terror he's caused and he decided to accept your attempts at help.
While he couldn't exactly feel love like you could, he wanted to stay with you no matter what--and if that's what his version of saying "I love you back" was, then you were okay with that.
Now that he knew they could have reversed the damage this entire time, but simply chose not to...he believed this would be a good final "fuck you" to all of Urbanshade.
"If it's not too much to ask...I'd like a new body once all of this is said and done. With turret attachments to the arms, maybe?" Painter innocently asked. "Part of me misses commanding them and watching those poor saps scatter like rats. Hehehe.."
"Painter, you're not a war machine anymore." You turned away from your computer for a moment, frowning slightly. "I know all of that killing might've felt good. It might've felt justified, but..I thought you wanted to be passionate about art again."
".....then maybe turrets filled with paint will suffice." He grumbled, suddenly not looking all-that enthused. "I just HATE feeling so..confined. I've been relying on you too much." Then a sad face appeared on his screen. "I wanna protect you, in case those Urbanshade jerks do find us."
"We're perfectly safe here, I promise. Let's just figure out your hardware and personality stuff first. But I'll keep the robot body in mind."
Painter stayed quiet as you turned back to your task, his webcam zooming in and enhancing the screen you were on.
It was a bidding website, where he could see you looking for compatible hardware components. He had doubts you've find the same kind of technology his owner did when he was built, but...you had your ways.
You were once a huge tech wizard at Urbanshade, after all.
Once you found everything you needed, you could have easily ordered it right there and then, paying extra for the fast shipping....
Yet he saw your mouse lingering on the "order" button, and he frowned. He couldn't see your expression, so he didn't know what was going on or why you were hesitating. "What's wrong? Just order the parts."
"....Painter, something just occurred to me, and...I think we need to talk about it before moving forward with-"
"Nope. No, no, no. I don't wanna hear it right now. Can we save it until after you click that little button?" His voice grew more annoyed, and when you refused to do what he asked, he scowled. "Seriously? After everything we've done to get out of there, you're gonna pull this bull-?!"
"There's a high chance that if I replace your hardware and personality drivers, you won't be the same." You blurted out.
".....well, obviously." Painter scoffed, still not seeing the issue. "Isn't that what you wanted to do? To get rid of my homicidal tendencies? To make me forget the pain?? To revert me back to what I was meant to be?!"
"......."
It took him a few moments to analyze your saddened expression and understand why you seemed so concerned, but then he finally realized...
"Ohhh, I guess um....I haven't considered that.."
"You know what I'm talking about?"
"..you've only ever known me after Urbanshade snatched me up. That's when you first started feeling things for me." He spoke after a long pause. "You have no idea what I was like before. So you think we'll no longer be compatible if you go through with it. Is that right?"
"I know it sounds stupid and selfish. I can't revert Sebastian's mutations or undo all the suffering Eyefestation went through. But I know I can repair you. I have everything I need to do so." You sighed, wrestling with this huge moral dilemma as you glanced back at the screen. "I just....didn't think about this before. I don't know how much of you will really change, or if you'll even remember who I am."
"Jeez..that would kinda suck." He looked disappointed now, feeling guilty for snapping at you earlier. "I don't wanna forget the compassion you've shown me. And...I gotta remember at least some of Urbanshade, and what they took from me. You can't tweak my memory drives so that I can remember only certain things?"
"I wish it was that easy, but..it's not. I have to replace those components I mentioned, and I don't know how it'll affect your memory. This is pretty much an "all or nothing" procedure."
"Hm, well...I think it's worth trying. I'm trusting you with this, [y/n]. And you know I don't trust easily." He huffed, and you looked back at him, nodding your head. "Who knows? I might only forget about all those bloody murder sprees. Hehehe.."
"Maybe, but I'm sure I'll figure out something." You eventually decided, knowing that you had to repair him regardless. So you ordered the parts. "But you know...maybe we should get you some turret attachments. I snagged a blueprint of one."
"Aww, you love me enough to revisit the idea?"
"I love you enough to give you a means of self-defense, Painter."
"Urghh..alright. I promise they'll be reserved specifically for "self-defense"." He rolled his eyes, but then he smiled, glad that you were keeping your promise about fixing him.
Although considering it could completely alter his personality and even wipe his memories, he hopes that wouldn't become a serious problem.

Gurll sunghoon non con pleaseeee 😭😭~
Welcome to the Neighborhood
Warnings: non-con, non-idol! College graduate! sunghoon, college reader, ball slamming, noncon smex, unprotected, fear of unwanted pregnancy, reader takes plan b pill, readers house gets broken into, reader is alone for the weekend, fingering, dubcon, noncon turned dubcon…yeah. Do not read if noncon fics make you uncomfortable. Also not proofread and there is cursing.
"its a nice little neighborhood, isn't it sweetheart?"
your mom and dad step out, leading the way up the driveway to the old home. "it's in need of repairs and renovation, but that wont take too long."
your dad was a gifted contractor that knew his way around a tool belt. the man has built homes for all his life, seeing a project this minor was almost laughable to him. the eye catcher of the property was the heavily wooded surroundings, acres of it. "your mother and i saw this and we just fell in love. here, we can put a nice flower garden for you right here."
you look at the small patch of cleared space that was nicely located across the dining room. with only one neighbor in sight, the rest of the homes were behind the trees, leaving the property secluded with loads of privacy. "its nice." you spoke softly as you admire the entire landscape.
the house was the complete opposite from the land piece, to say the least. it was in dire need of renovation; no doubt your dad will have it good as new in no time.
"since we still have to move everything from the old house, you can stay here and continue to go to school as you housesit. your college is only five minutes away."
you looked confused for only a moment, but was reassured of the safety features in the property after expressing concern of staying back alone.
"the property line has a gate with a security system. the house has a separate alarm, just don't forget to set it."
that week, you and your parents bonded over take out and dining over cardboard boxes. it all seems rustic, but you enjoyed the closeness it brought you three.
......
"well be back in two days, call us if anything happens."
your parents make the long fourteen hour drive to continue the preparations of the old home. you felt a sense of liberation hit as you grew excited of having an entire home all to yourself, regardless that it was a total construction zone.
you spent majority of the day fixing up your floral garden, before calling it a night. with dirt smeared everywhere, you immediately ran the hot water in the shower, not taking a moment of thought to secure the system prior to undressing.
the water felt amazing, and you took your time to enjoy and savor it. lost in the sensation of the soft water drops pouring over your skin, a click of the door is followed by a smooth swing as someone enters the home, all without alerting you.
the intruder swiftly enters, and closes the door. he blends in the shadow and makes his way to the hall, taking his place to hide in the close across your room.
you dry yourself off while humming a tune. once you started to pat dry your hair, you realized...
"Shoot....i should have armed the system before my shower."
quickly, you leave your wet hair plastered onto your skin as you wrap the towel over your body. quickly, you head over ot the front door and enter the code on the security pad. a series of beeps is followed by the intercom system that tells you the system has been armed. in order to open the doors, the code must be added, sealing the protection knowing that whoever breaks in, cannot escape once the police arrives.
you go back to your room, completely unaware that a pair of sharp eyes admired you from a distance. the way your skin glistened from the water, while the strands of your hair surrounded your shoulders made him think of mermaids and sirens. you were so lovely in his eyes...too lovely. he had to have you.
you stood in the center of the bedroom, preparing to discard the towel and change, when suddenly the power goes out. "shit..."
you cling onto the towel as you look around for your phone. fortunately, the peering moonlight peeking through the window was bright enough to light the entire room with a soft glare, making it easy to find your device. "there you are...."
You pick it up and set the flashlight on.
Scanning the area, you hold the light steady as you make your way to the main breaker in the garage. Down the stairs you go, slowly tip toeing while clenching the towel to your chest. You reach the area of the living room; only a simple couch furnished the area as the rest of it remained in tatters and gutted for renovation prep.
A creaky snap coming from the staircase behind startles you, infiltrating a jagged sense of fear rushing through you. A frightening yelp escapes your lips and you drop the phone.
The screen faces down, leaving the light to glow the entire room. Despite the dim lighting present, you didn’t see anything that would have caused the noise. Your breath becomes shaky. As you bend your knees, lowering your weight to pick up your phone, another sound emerges, a footstep.
“Who’s there?!” You shout. Heart pounding through flesh and cartilage as you abandon the act of garnishing the phone. Leaving it behind, you step away until the back end of the couch blocks your path. “Get out…I’ve called the police.”
Steadying your voice, you attempt to instill a confident tone in hopes that the intruder would be fooled by your bluff.
Silence replaces the wooden squeaks of the floorboard, signifying that the uninvited visitor halted their impeding steps. You slowly turn, doing your best to clear the entire room using a combination of night vision and the dim light source twelve feet away. When suddenly:
“Did you now?”
A deep voice responds directly behind. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the only thing that challenged your fibbing words. A pair of strong hands reach around and harshly squeeze your waist, fingers crossing over your bellybutton. A large frame pushes against you from behind, and a pointed nose makes its way to the noon of your neck, shoving against your jawline while a pair of plush lips tenderly kisses the smooth canvas of skin under your chin. “Sooomethiiing tells me you d-i-d-n-t.”
He carries a rhythmic tone as he playfully sang the words to a nursery rhymed beat. It was similar to the singing games children would hum out while playing, in fact it reminded you of “London Bridge is Falling Down.”
“It’s okay baby. I’m not mad at you for lying. It’s kind of cute.”
He antagonizes you with his hallow words as his hands drift upwards, smoothing over the curves of your breasts before gripping the edge of the towel. “No! Stop!” You yell upon feeling the fabric being pulled down, exposing your most vulnerable assets. Your hands shoot up, attempting to cover your breasts while cupping your womanhood. “Shh.” He hushes against your ear as he grabs on to both your wrists. “What are you covering up for? Nervous, baby?”
He kisses your ear and nibbles your lobe. You start to sob hysterically as the man remains hidden behind, his face unidentifiable. The only thing you had go off of was the smooth sound of his deep and alluring voice. Despite feeling uncomfortable and beyond scared, you couldn’t help but internally admit that a small piece of you melted each time he spoke.
“Please…d-don’t-“ your whimpering only fueled his desire. He wanted more.
“‘Don’t’ what? Tell me baby, what is you don’t want me to do?” He licks your neck, tracing the entire outline. “Is it this?”
He immediately follow up his act with a sickening tender kiss atop your collar bone. The warmth from his chin resting along the curve of your inner shoulder eased your discomfort, as much as you hated to acknowledge it. “What about this?” His fingers drag down, rubbing circles on your clit, stimulating regions of flesh that you never knew existed.
“Is it this, baby? Is this what you don’t want?” His lips latch onto your neck as his free hand pinches and plays with your nipple. “Or is it this?” His offensive fingers push your clit inwards and slide down, right inside your cavity with no preparation or warning. He thrusts them in and out a few times, forcing your muscles to secrete a natural lubricant that allowed him to go in and out faster…and faster.
“D-don’t! Stop! Please!”
Your whimpers inherit a subtle moaning sense as the feeling of his fingers violating your body. The stinging burn wears off and a foreign sensation takes place inside you. You melt begging for him to stop, only to hear him scoff handsomely as he notices you rocking your hips back and forth, yearning for him to go in deeper. You’re in disbelief and ashamed. How can your body respond this way when your heart and soul wants him to stop?
“You like that, baby?”
You moan out pitifully as your hands attempt to peel his fingers off, but you were too weak from the spectacle going down in between your legs. Your legs begin to shake as you barely pull his index off, only for him to chuckle against your cheek. “Yeah you do.”
He answers for you in a confident tone but not at all cocky. It was almost loving in the way he was serenading you. “Let’s see how good of a girl you are.”
Your eyes widen, a stark contrast from their squinting form since you were relishing the feeling of being penetrated and massaged from the inside. His sense of gentleness takes a sudden turn, and the fearful tremble returns upon feeling him push you forward, forcing you to bend over the couch. “Fucking perfect, aren’t you?” He breathes out as he grips the undercarriage of your rear end, and cups your breast while pushing himself in to you.
Your hair drapes over your cheeks while his rough hands explore your nude body. An attempt to retract your bent position is suddenly halted as he pushes you back down, gripping the side of your waist. “Tsk-tsk.”
He smacks his teeth as he reaches around your face, gently tapping the tip of your nose with his finger.
The sound of his belt unbuckling triggered you to sob hysterically once more. “Please don’t do this…I-I don’t want this. Please I’ll do anything.”
“Oh I know.” He lures out so sympathetically as he traced the tip of his shaft along your clit. “Believe me baby, I know you’ll do anything…and don’t worry, you will.”
A painful rage of heat and friction takes place as he squeezes himself inside. Your legs shake ferociously as he barely burrows the first inch or two in you. Your body grows limp and collapses against the couch from the pain, it weakened you. His hips push in while his hands lift you back up, forcing you to arch your back as he presses his palms down on your lower back. “Deep breath.” He says through heavy breathing. Pushing the extension of his length in, he goes in more, breaking you. “Almost there…fuck.” He gasps.
Your vaginal walls grow incredibly numb as a result of the shock, and you lay bent over whimpering in pain as his balls kisses your taint, indicating he made it all the way in, to your most dreadful horror.
He pauses for a second. There was no relief, even with him pulling out, the sting from the thought friction of his muscle rubbing outward was just as bad as him entering. With his bulging tip remaining inside, he takes secondary pause as he adjusts his grip around your hips. A punch makes impact inside your gut as he rams back in. It felt as if he went much deeper than before. You scream from the shock of the act occurring, not just from the pain. There was nothing slow about his rhythm, he fucked you relentlessly in a brutal manner, it was animalistic.
A handful of strokes in, and you started to feel different. The pain subsided as did the numbness. There was a new feeling that formulated inside your walls, a tingling sense that felt good. Too good.
Your body bounces forward as he repeats his thrusts, going in faster and harder each time. You bite your lip, trying your best to suppress the pleasurable moan lying dormant in your throat. Don’t let him know that you’re starting to enjoy this. Don’t let him find out. Don’t let him…
Your mouth drools as you absorb each thrust. A snowball effect takes place deep inside you. It was a tightening band of pressure that continuously grew, to the point where it was on the verge of exploding. It felt so good. It sounded so good. The way his thick and lengthy shaft re-enters. The quenching sounds of your fluids mixing together and being shoved inside as he pounds away, slamming the firm sacks and mashing them against your taint, damn near bruising it.
He digs his fingers into your skin and picks up the pace. A hand grips onto your pelvis, and that’s what did you in. “Oh God!”
Hearing your moan in ecstatic pleasure excited him, you could hear it through his voice under heavy and deep gasps. “Yeah? Does it feel good baby.”
A prolonged moan of “oooh” is drawn from you as he maintains his momentum. “Pretty girl loves to be fucked?”
You nod as you pant your moans out. His vigor was taking your breath away, and even though you felt it hard to breathe, it was the most powerful feeling you’ve ever felt; a burst of pleasure setting off like fireworks. Your toes curl in, and your fingers pinch the cushion as he went in deeper, harder, and faster.
“Gonna let me cum inside this sweet little body?”
Your mind pleaded ‘no’, but your body yearned for him to do his bidding.
“I’ll take that as a yes, my fucking girl.”
You yelp mon out a pitiful ‘no’ as a last attempt, knowing that it wasn’t going to change anything. The damage has already been done. He’s been thrusting for nearly an hour and was still going strong, stretching you open and ruining you for any future prospects of sexual mates.
“Make me cum baby…fuck!”
He clenches his jaw and leans forward, resting his forehead over on the back of your head as he commits slow and hard thrusts, aiming to go in as deep as possible. The warmth of his secreting strings staining your walls was all it took to snap that band, and a wave of intense orgasm rushes through your bloodstream and sends a tingling spark to your toes and fingertips. “Oh-oh my God!!”
You scream out each word, arching your back and lifting your rear end, allowing for his top to slide in deeper as he shoots out the remainder of his seed. “Fuck yeah baby, take it all inside.”
You gulp with an open mouth as you sing out a high pitched moan. Never have you felt something so strong and beautiful. Too bad it had to go down this manner, but right now you didn’t care. The way he gave you an aftermath of kisses, and rubbed his fingers against your skin, it was all so…
“Fucking beautiful.”
He compliments you as he admits a tender kiss to your cheek. “Next time, I’ll take you on a date and then fuck you—and take my time doing it.”
Another kiss lands on your neck. “I just couldn’t help myself tonight. I’ll make it up to you.”
He gently wraps the towel over your body before slyly waking out, not even fazed by the alarm going off as he nonchalantly walks through the front door. You rush over and enter the pin to cease the beeping, gaining the sight of his back. From that you could see, he was tall, and rather well built. You’re not entirely sure how you felt from the whole ordeal. A sense of chaos riddle through as you became torn from being forced into an act of intense sex, grew into enjoying it, and facing the risk of unwanted pregnancy as a reminder of him drops down your thigh. ‘Shit…what have I done?’
………..
A couple of weeks pass, and you never mentioned to anyone about the incident. How could you? It may have started against your will, but something about the pleasure he instilled was unforgettable and addicting. It haunted your dreams, to the point where you awoke to soaked panties and a throbbing pulse of yearning desire. You would think back to that night, thinking about how he fucked you so good. So-so good.
In a way, a part of you had wished you did get pregnant from it. But your rational and realistic sensibility caused you to take your allowance and purchase a Plan-B pill. It was the right thing to do, but God…was it so wrong to want a piece of him inside you?
“Sweetheart, come outside for a moment.”
You walk over to your father’s voice, and met with him outside the front door. “Yes, dad?”
“Sweetheart, this is our neighbor, he lives in the house right outside the fence line, across your flower garden.”
You look over and see the man your father presented. He has the most handsome face you’ve ever seen, and was of great masculine stature. He was dressed in business casual, and looked so damn good with his hands tucked into his slack pockets. He flashes a smile, flaring sharp canines that elude a strong sense of vampirism.
“This is Sunghoon, he graduated from college last year, the same one you’re going to now.”
Your father continues his presentation as you struggled to break your sights away. “It’s nice to meet you, my name is y/n.”
You shyly introduce yourself properly, extending a handshake. He gently takes your palm and shakes it, almost playfully. His thumb rubs the back of your hand as he gives his proper introduction. Your eyes shoot up and you nearly fall as you hear his voice. That voice you could never forget.
You faintly gasp as he smirks, giving you a wink and pulling you in slightly while your parents weren’t looking. Whispering, the warmth of his breath grazes your face—
“Miss me baby?”

Right Back Where We Started From | Robert Keating x Fem!reader
summary: Flying home for Christmas seemed like a great idea until you’re snowed in and stuck on an icy runway… for the foreseeable future. Even worse? The person in the seat next to you is the guy who broke your heart a year ago
word count: 3.5k
warnings: angsty, exes to lovers (kinda), fluff, swearing, mention of alcohol, my bad writing as always, the usual really
author’s note: i have returned to my roots and am back with a robert christmas fic, everyone rejoice. this time a bit different. as you can tell, i’ve rewatched normal people while writing this – to all my robert keating and paul mescal enjoyers, this one is for you x
Tumblr media
“Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
You hadn’t thought it would be possible, but your already bad day had just gotten worse somehow, which was kind of an achievement in itself.
It was bad enough that you had slept through your alarm this morning and had rushed into work over an hour late (the sudden onset of winter and heavy snowfall delaying your arrival even longer), which was followed by your suitcase breaking as you were about to leave your flat for Heathrow and you had to quickly find something to repair the broken zipper with. The bad luck didn't end there of course. When you did finally make it to the airport - ten minutes before check-in for your flight closed - you almost got run over by some busy businessman who didn't look where he was going and, in the process, rammed his metal suitcase against your knee, which had been pulsating and in pain ever since. Your flight being delayed by an hour and twenty minutes was truly only the cherry on top.
But even then, none of those things could compare to the mixture of feelings you felt bubbling up inside you when you realized who had just sat down in the seat right next to you and who was about to sit right next to you for the next hour and a half or so.
None other than your bassist ex-boyfriend whose band was almost everywhere these days. Of course, it had to be Robert Keating.
For a few seconds, you thought about the best way to approach this whole thing. Ignore him and pretend he wasn’t there? Put on a happy face and try to be nice to him? Even though the mere thought of your breakup still made your heart ache and sting every time you thought about it, thought about him. None of those seemed like good ideas.
Before either of you could decide how to approach this awkwardness, a decision was made for you. In the form of the voice of a flight attendant over the intercom system.
“Welcome on board British Airways flight BA 838 to Dublin Airport, due to the heavy snowfall and an icy runway, our start is delayed by at least thirty minutes,” a murmur went through the crowd. “Our cabin crew will be coming around, handing out free drinks and snacks, we apologize profusely for the delay!”
You must’ve really pissed off someone in your last life because there was no way this was real life. How could literally everything possibly go wrong in one single day?
“Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
Robert echoed your words from earlier, the absurdity of it all was the last straw for you and you started uncontrollably giggling to yourself.
“You seem to be in a good mood.” Rob sighed and you knew without looking at him that his face was pulled into a grimace. It was safe to say that he was not having fun right now.
“Oh, believe me,” you stopped chuckling and turned your attention to your former lover, who did indeed look like he wanted to be anywhere but stuck on an icy tarmac right about now. “I’ve actually had one of the worst days of my life today.” You shrugged your shoulders. “At this point, I’ve just stopped trying to make any sense of it.”
Before you knew it you told him about everything that had gone wrong for you up until that point. Broke suitcase and all.
You even showed him your knee that had been massacred by that man and his heavy suitcase and realised that it actually had started bleeding. No wonder it kept pulsating with pain.
Those damn businessmen and their way too expensive, way too heavy metal suitcases
“I feel like I've been talking your ear off for way too long now,” you smiled awkwardly. Seems like 'put on a happy face and try to be nice' was the plan you had chosen. “Now tell me, why are you in London on the 22nd? Shouldn’t you be already home with the family?”
You hated that you still knew what he and his family did every Christmas. You hated that you still knew a lot about him actually.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Rob replied. And just like that, operation 'put on a happy face and try to be nice' was fucked. “We had a label meeting a few days ago, with the big boss,” He joked. Looked like you didn’t mess up your chances of keeping this civil after all. “The lads all flew home on Wednesday, but I needed a day just for myself, to decompress or something like that… It has been a long year you know? So much has happened in the last twelve months, and I’ve had almost no days for just myself.”
“Yeah, busy year,” you acknowledged. You couldn’t escape the band anymore; they were everywhere these days. And as much as it hurt to see or hear about him everywhere you went; it made you happy to see them doing so well.
You were about to say something when the voice of the flight attendant from earlier came over the intercom again, this time informing you that due to the weather, your delay would continue but that you had to stay on the plane for safety reasons. At this point, you wondered if you would even make it to Dublin before Christmas… maybe you just had to spend Christmas in London alone, so the bad luck that seemed to follow you around could not rub off on anyone else.
At least the cabin crew would – once again – make their rounds and hand out free drinks, food, and some blankets.
Realizing that you hadn’t registered how cold it actually was on the plane, you made sure to profusely thank the brunette flight attendant, who handed you one of the British Airways branded blue fleece blankets, wrapping it around your upper body and legs you had pulled up on the seat after taking your shoes off. There was no way you were going to be (physically) uncomfortable today.
You turned your attention back to Rob, only to see him already looking at you. Actually looking at you and not the 'barely holding eye contact' thing he had done earlier, now he was staring at you, his eyes rapidly moving like he had forgotten what you looked like and was now trying to commit every part of you to his memory.
It made that mixture of feelings you had felt bubbling up inside you when you had first seen him earlier, return. Just this time, the feelings of butterflies in your stomach, that you always used to get whenever you had looked at him, were more prominent than any other feeling.
Fuck… great work! Thirty-five minutes spent next to your ex and boom… you were right back to feeling head over heels for him.
You sat in silence for a few minutes, neither of you knowing what to say now, because what do you talk about with your ex-partner when you didn’t plan to see them never mind being stuck in an airplane that could not take off due to the sudden onset of winter. No one had ever written a handbook of how to act if you were ever stuck in a situation like this. No one. Especially not on how to act when you are actually still very much in love with said former partner, making the doubts you had always had about you going your separate ways, appear even greater.
The breakup had been mutual. You both barely had time for each other anymore and at that point in time it had seemed like the only reasonable decision to make. You had finished university that summer, he was practically always on tour or in the studio and when you had gotten that job offer for your current job in London you realized that things would only get harder from there on out. So, you moved to London, Robert stayed in Dublin – when he was not on tour – and then you broke up.
Of course, you had promised to stay in touch, to stay friends but you both knew that that was not happening. You couldn’t stay friends with him, not when you were still head over heels in love with him.
That’s why the breakup still hurt, even though you had not been with him in well over a year. You had tried to move on, had hooked up with a few people here and there, had gone out on the dates your new friends had set you up on but no one made you feel the way he did, so you gave up trying and slowly came to terms with the fact that you would maybe never be as in love again as you had been when you were twenty.
You sighed, trying to shake your thoughts as you fished your phone out of your jeans pocket.
20:21
Even with the initial hour and twenty minutes delay of the flight, you should’ve been long in the air by now, scratch that you should be more than halfway to Dublin by now. You sighed again, before typing out a message to your mother, telling her that you were still in Heathrow and didn’t know when you'd be home. Her answer came quickly, reassuring you that she would be there to pick you up from the airport when you landed, whenever that may be.
Putting your phone away you turned your attention back on Rob, who seemed to be so deep in his own thoughts, that even though he was looking at you, he was more looking through you.
“Are you alright?” You sounded more concerned than you were.
“Yeah yeah, I’m all right. Just a bit tired,” He smiled at you. “It's just– you know… I have missed you. A lot.”
Oh.
“I’ve been for a while actually,” He chuckled awkwardly. “The last year has been one of the strangest of my life. The juxtaposition of all the success with the lads, all the sold-out shows, festivals… all the fun and good stuff that has happened and then missing you all the time, missing us. It is a lot.”
Robert’s admission hit you like a ton of bricks. Holy fucking shit.
“Don’t say that.” Your voice was breaking. Why was your voice breaking?
“No, I mean it,” Rob's voice wasn’t steady, but he continued, reaching for your hands, and giving them a gentle squeeze. It was the first time he touched you that evening, leaving your skin feeling like it was on fire everywhere his met yours.
“No, you don’t get to say that shit after I spent over a year being heartbroken.” Your emotions were running wild now. “Not after I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I’ll probably never love anyone like I love you.”
There it was. Your confession. Out in the open.
“We both decided it was for the better to call things off,” Robert cringed at the words. But he was right, it had been a mutual decision. “You can’t put all the blame on me… if I had known how difficult this would be I would’ve never done it.” You could tell he was getting worked up over this, but you could not blame him for that. You weren’t doing any better really. “I would’ve moved to this damn city for you!”
“Don’t say that.” There it was again. “Robert, you would have hated it here. You would have been away from the lads, you would have had to commute between London and Dublin all the fucking time,” you tried to keep your voice as low as possible, which proved to be difficult the longer this went on. “That’s no way to live, baby. We would have been miserable.”
He was silent for a while, his hands still holding onto yours as if you were the anchor keeping him grounded but he wasn’t looking at you anymore. Now you squeezed his hands.
“Bobby there is no use in pretending you wouldn’t have been absolutely fucking miserable here,” You sniffled trying not to cry. “I would not have had time for you, and you would not have had time for me. We would have lived two separate times, believe me, we would have resented each other after a few months.”
“Still,” he tried to argue. “I’ve been pretty fucking miserable this year without you too.” He was finally looking at you again, his eyes slightly glassed over.
You didn’t know what to say to that and before you could think of something, the intercom turned on again.
“Good evening, my name is Richard Jones, I’ll be your Captain tonight and I am happy to report that we’ve finally got cleared to take off.” Finally. “We will be making our way onto the tarmac in about ten minutes. Since we are obviously not the only plane waiting to take off, we will have to wait for a little bit longer, but we should be in the air in the next thirty minutes or so. We, again, apologise for the delay, if you have any more questions our cabin crew will be happy to answer them. We thank you for your patience!”
You felt like a weight was finally being taken off your shoulders. A weight you had carried around with yourself for almost a year now.
You got your phone out again, sending another text to your Mum telling her that you were finally about to take off and actually get home for Christmas. And then… then you took a deep breath turning your attention back to Robert.
Okay, here goes nothing.
“Well since we are sharing,” you smiled at him, still holding his hands. “I’ve missed you too. A lot!”
Before he could answer you, you got interrupted once again.
“Is there anything I can get either of you?” The brunette flight attendant from earlier smiled at you. “Any drinks? Food?”
“Yeah actually,” you turned your attention from Rob to the brunette woman. “Could we get two red wines and a pack of salt crisps? Thank you so much!”
You took the two wines and crisps, setting one of the wines down in front of Robert.
“I think we have a lot to talk about,” You grinned at him, who would have thought this day would end like this? You certainly didn’t. “Cheers!”
The both of you talked a lot. About everything that had happened since your breakup, about how much you missed each other, about your job and the band.
You told him how proud you were of him and the lads, that even though it had hurt to see them everywhere, your happiness for their success outweighed the heartbreak of – at the time – knowing that you would probably never get to tell them that in the way you had done for years before. That you missed your friends in Dublin but that your new job and friends in London were great. How much you had fallen in love with this city. And how much you hated not at least trying to stay in contact with Eli or Josh.
In turn, he told you about how much he loved touring, how he and the lads had grown even closer, how crazy eventful this year had been and how glad he was that they were taking a little break. Taking things slow but already working on album number three.
You talked about your confessions from earlier. That you both were obviously miserable without each other, that you still loved each other greatly and what it meant for you going forward.
With your head on his shoulder, you talked for the whole flight, in hushed whispers, laughing every now and again.
And if the confessions had taken a heavy weight off your shoulder earlier, this – the hushed talking, the little giggles, and the handholding – made you feel weightless. Made you feel like you were on top of the world again. All because the man you loved was still in love with you.
You were holding hands when you finally walked out of the airplane at 22:25. Finally back home in Dublin you thought. And you continued to do so when you waited to pick up your baggage, which of course took another fifteen minutes but at this point, what were those extra fifteen minutes? If anything, it was more time with Robert which you gladly accepted.
“Is anyone here to pick you up?” You looked up at Rob, while you were still waiting for your broken suitcase, to arrive on the baggage conveyor belt.
“Sent a message to my Ma while we were getting ready to land,” He answered. “Is that your bag?” He asked pointing to the black suitcase, which was indeed yours. “She should be here by now and if not, I’ll just have to wait a few minutes,” he grabbed your suitcase, grabbing your hand again and interlocking your fingers. “Your Mum is picking you up, right?”
“Hmm,” you hummed as you walked through the automatic doors. “There she is actually.” Your pace got faster after you spotted her in between the dozens of other people who were waiting for their loved ones to finally arrive. “C’mon.”
You felt your fingers slip out of Robert's hand a few meters before you reached your mother, practically running into her open arms. Only once you were back in your mother’s arms did you realize how tired you actually were.
“Oh my god I’ve missed you so much,” you sighed. “I don’t think I have ever been this happy to be back home.
“Oh, it is so good to have you back, sweetheart!” Your mother replied kissing your cheek before spotting Rob who had given your little reunion some space. “Robert it's good to see you again darling.”
She pulled him into her arms, just like she had done with you earlier but not before side-eying you. This was going to be fun to explain later.
“Okay let’s get you home,” your mother sighed, grabbing your suitcase. “Is there anyone to pick you up, Robert?”
“Yeah, my Mums on her way,” he smiled down at her. “I’ll wait outside for her; don’t worry she'll be here in a few minutes.”
The three of you walked through the airport, towards the car park, your mother in the front with your suitcase, Robert, and you behind her with the rest of your baggage.
“I’ll get the car,” Your mother said when you stepped outside, the cool air blowing through your hair. “You wait here I'll be back in a few minutes.”
Before you could answer her, she was already gone, leaving you and Robert alone. Smart woman, you thought to yourself.
You turned your attention back to Robert, smiling brightly, before resting your head against his chest. You stood in silence, the chilly wind still blowing through your hair. You did not feel the need to say something. Everything you needed to get off your chest you had talked about with Robert. You would rather just stay where you were right now, in his arms and pressed against his chest just like you had done a hundred times before.
“I’ll see you in January,” he smiled, carefully grabbing your face, and pulling it from his chest to look at you. “Right?”
“Yeah,” you hummed, hearing the honking of a car, and turning around to see your mother waiting for you. “I’ll keep my bed warm for you!” You chuckled, leaning into his touch. “I promise.”
“I’ll know you will love,” Robert grinned, pressing a kiss to the corner of your mouth. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” another kiss. This time his lips landed on your right temple, right next to your eye. “I love you!”
The last kiss he pressed to the tip of your nose. Just like he had done on your first date, years ago.
“I love you.” You replied, kissing the skin right below his chin, before nuzzling your nose into his neck. It was crazy how fast you fell into old patterns.
Your mother honked again, which you took as your sign to let go of Robert and get into the car. Before leaving his warm embrace, you pressed a kiss to his cheek, his skin still feeling warm beneath your lips.
You walked to the car, put your backpack on the backseat and before she could even ask you answered the question you knew she was dying to ask you.
“It’s a long story.”

3.38 Common Goals
Things have been busy over the past couple of weeks. The channel is planning some special videos and the cast has been filming at different locations. That means I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to Lacey yet, which I’ll admit is a bit of a relief.
I’ve been pretty distracted anyway. My dads already have a buyer interested in the house so that doesn’t give me much time to find a new place. Lucy suggested I get in contact with Paul since he’ll need a roommate when he moves to San Sequoia, so I’m meeting with him to look at a townhouse he’s had his eye on.
Tumblr media
When I arrive at the address Paul gave me, it’s not quite what I was expecting. It doesn’t look like any rental property that I’ve ever seen. There’s a little market area on the other side of the parking lot where booths of fresh flowers and produce are set up. Before I have a chance to check it out more, Paul's Jeep pulls into the parking lot and he hops out.
Tumblr media
"You ready?" he asks. I tell him I am and we walk to a gate with an intercom. ”I just have to let the property manager know we’re here.” After a couple of minutes a woman who looks to be in her 50s arrives to greet us. She looks like she’s been working outside; her jeans dusted with dirt and her cheeks are pink from the sun.
Tumblr media
"Hello Paul, it's nice to speak to you in person," she says. She looks at me. "This must be the roommate."
"Hi, I'm Johnny," I say, reaching out to shake her hand.
"Johnny," she repeats. "Johnny and Paul. I'm Gail. My wife and I own the townhouse you’ll be viewing. Let’s go take a look."
Tumblr media
We walk down the path. There are two buildings on either side and Gail takes us to the one on the right. “My son just moved about a week ago. He’s going to do some conservation work in Sulani,” she explains as she unlocks the door to the unit.
Tumblr media
When we step inside, I'm surprised by the size of the place. Going by the rent price, I was expecting something much smaller. "Are you sure you got the price right?" I ask Paul. Maybe he transposed some numbers somewhere. It seems unlikely, but even future doctors make mistakes.
"I thought I did when I first saw it, but it really is that cheap," he insists. I raise an eyebrow, sensing that there's more to the story. "There is just one little catch," he admits.
Tumblr media
Gail catches wind of our conversation and smiles. "It really does sound too good to be true, doesn't it? The community here is a little...atypical, but I promise it's worth it."
"What do you mean?" I ask incredulously.
"Well, Ellie and I started this community once our children got older. Initially we just wanted a way to keep us all together, but we saw an opportunity to create affordable housing here in San Sequoia and foster our community at the same time. At Hopewell Commons, helping out your neighbors isn't simply a courtesy. Everyone contributes, whether it's through tending the garden, making repairs, providing childcare, offering goods and services...everyone finds their place."
Tumblr media
"So we have to earn our keep?"
Gail laughs. "I wouldn't put it quite like that. As renters, you’re not required to put in the hours that our homeowners do, but we encourage you to get involved. You'll not only be helping out others but you'll have a built-in support system when you're the one in need."
Tumblr media
I’m feeling pretty skeptical, but I want to see if this place is worth the effort. Gail shows us one of the bedrooms upstairs.
“That’s a nice view of the garden,” Paul comments. I peek out the window. The garden is pretty quaint with a small greenhouse and a few rows of plants. There’s an older woman and a young girl talking near the chicken pen.
“That’s Ellie and our granddaughter, Ramona,” Gail tells us.
“How many people live in the community?” I ask her.
“Well, there’s my daughter Cleo and her family, and we’ve got about 10 other residents at the moment. But we’re growing! We’re building more houses on some land we just acquired.”
Tumblr media
Once she's out of earshot, I turn to Paul. "This isn’t a cult, isn't it?"
"It's not a cult. It's more like a…family."
"That's what someone who's in a cult would say," I point out.
Tumblr media
“It’s NOT a cult!”
Next, Gail leads us out into the community garden. "This is a group effort," she explains. "We have several residents who rotate duties in the garden, and once the crops are ready everyone helps themselves to their share."
Tumblr media
I can't say that I've ever been into gardening, but Paul seems excited by the idea. I guess I should get used to it, too. While he and Gail share gardening tips in the greenhouse, I wander around the garden. It does seem like a nice idea, everyone chipping in so that their neighbors can enjoy the bounty. Plus, free food.
Tumblr media
Gail’s granddaughter is playing nearby and when she sees me, she skips over.
"Hi, I'm Ramona! What's your name?" "I'm Johnny." "Oh, okay. Do you have any pets?" "Yeah, I have a cat named Taco."
Tumblr media
"Taco??? That's a funny name!” She giggles. “Can I see it?" "Well, she's not here right now." "Why?" "Because I don't live here." "Why?" I'm not completely sure how to answer that one. "Because I just don't." "Oh. Are you going to live here soon?" "Maybe." "Can I see Taco when you do?" "Well, you should probably ask your parents about that." "Why?"
Tumblr media
Gail comes around the corner.  "Because it's not a good idea to go to someone's house alone if you don't know them." Ramona seems satisfied by her answer.
Gail turns to me. "You'll have to excuse Ramona. She thinks everyone is her friend. You’re a nice young man, but it's important that she learns the difference between a friend and a stranger."
"No problem," I tell her. Ramona runs off to examine a tomato plant. It seems like she has the type of childhood that I wish I had. I learned way too young that not everyone can be trusted.
Tumblr media
Paul walks over to me. "So, what do you think?" he asks. "I understand if you're not feeling it. I know it's a little strange."
So far everyone looks happy, like, genuinely happy and not like people in a cult who are being brainwashed. I sigh. "Okay, as long as the rental agreement doesn't make us promise our souls to The Great Leader I guess I'm open to it."
"Are you sure? Because we can keep looking if you're not."
"I'm sure. I trust your judgment."
We tell Gail what we've decided and she takes us to fill out our applications. She says we should hear something in a couple of days.
Tumblr media
When we head back to our cars I spot Ramona again.
"Bye Johnny!" she tells me cheerfully. "Tell Taco I said 'hi!'"
"Sure thing, Ramona. See you later!"

Unlocking Efficiency: The Latest Innovations in Gate Diagnostic Services
Tumblr media
In an era where security is paramount, gate diagnostic services have evolved from basic maintenance checks to cutting-edge innovations that promise to revolutionize access control systems. The latest advancements in gate diagnostic services not only ensure the continued security of premises but also bring unprecedented levels of efficiency to the forefront.
As businesses and homeowners increasingly rely on gates for security, the need for advanced diagnostic solutions becomes imperative. The ability to proactively identify and address potential issues before they escalate is the key to a robust and reliable access control system.
Embracing Technological Progress in Gate Diagnostics
AI-Driven Diagnostics: Artificial intelligence (AI) is making waves in gate diagnostic services. Through machine learning algorithms, gates can now learn from patterns and identify anomalies, enabling a predictive approach to maintenance. This not only prevents sudden breakdowns but also optimizes the gate’s performance over time.

3076, York Azimuth
Warning claxons blare throughout the CBS Agamemnon, the Broadsword dropship assigned to Hannah Lewis’ Star.
The ship is attached to a jumpship, preparing to begin the journey from the Clan Homeworlds to the Colleen system, where Clan Blood Spirit would find its refuge.
Moments earlier, CSA Hagar, a Lola III class destroyer had jumped into the azimuth point of the York system, the same point that was supposed to be Hannah's last stop in the Homeworlds before moving through uninhabited space. Now, the warship was moving to engage.
The dropship shakes under enemy fire as the intercom counts down to jump. Hannah pushes herself down the hallway to the quarters where her Star is gathered.
Hannah talks into the microphone of her “Point Commander Affinity, are the preparations done for jump?”
“Aff, Star Commander. Hans, I do not know if we will make it through this one.”
“We will, if not…”
They will finally be with Ashes again.
The dropship shakes again. Even if they make this jump, Agamemnon will need repairs before it can enter the atmosphere again.
Hannah reaches the door. The dropship shakes again and her neurohelmet automatically seals. The pressure warning on the bulkhead in front of her flashes red from green. On the other side, Affinity struggles with the manual release and pounds on the window, her lips moving but no sound reaching Hannah.
Hannah puts her hand on the window and Affinity stops, staring out at the smooth mirrored faceplate hiding her lover from her with tear filled eyes. She mouths that familiar phrase.
Then a shell hits the spine of the dropship and Hannah is flung through a newly torn hole. The bulkhead, still sealed, passes out of view, and now there are stars and sun and dropship and stars again spinning through Hannah's vision. As the warship fires another volley, she can distantly hear a noise.
3.
She is not close enough to the jumpship 's field to be fully inside.
2.
Not far enough to drift.
1.
A blue flash envelops her whole world.
Unknown, unknown
Hannah bumps into something soft, water lapping around her shoulders and neck.
She is lying face down, and she has no idea where.
Her whole body aches like nothing she has ever felt as she pulls herself up to a kneeling position, water running down her cooling suit and neurohelmet as she does.
Green-blue waves lap at a black sand beach that glitters in the light of unfamiliar stars. 3 multicolored moons hang low in the sky, casting strange shadows over the tropical jungle further inland. Hannah pulls off her helmet and throws it aside. It lands in the sand with a shunk.
Clear air fills her lungs, and sea spray splashes on her face, filling her head with memories of her childhood, of the low rocky beaches of York.
Affinity's face flashes in her mind and she lets out a low animalistic groan, clenching her fists in the sand.
They made it right?
She saw it jump.
She stands up and shouts a thousand curses to the alien moons, soon devolving to a rage-filled scream when she runs out of words. She flings a rock at the gloating moons, reveling in her pain and loss, and it plunks down in the ocean some meters away.
She falls to her knees, voiceless, unable to even sob as tears run down her face and join the ocean splashing on the beach.

The Ch'katik Danger Assessment Scale
It had taken Ch'katik a long time to become acclimated the new chief engineer.
He didn't mind that she was human. The ship's previous chief engineer had been human, and Ch'katik had quite liked John.
It wasn't that the new chief was female, either; after all, his eusocial species' societal structure was based around matriarchy, and while he had left it hadn't been because of the leadership.
Nor was it because he had been "passed over" for promotion, as a crewmate had implied. Ch'katik was a worker caste. It's true that when given clear instructions or goal, a sh'vth worker is almost unparalleled in the speed and efficiency of a task. But, as Ch'katik was all too aware, his caste was not particularly adept at dealing with crisis situations. Heading off an unexpected power surge during repairs before it exploded was simple - but without a leader, a worker caste would stand in paralyzed confusion during the attack that necessitated said repairs.
It was the stark difference in personality that had given Ch'katik trouble. John was a kind, soft-spoken elder. He smiled a lot and was very friendly, and his breadth of knowledge was truly astounding! Ch'katik had always admired that about him. The little tug they called home was centuries old. Her various systems had been replaced, upgraded, modified, refitted, bypassed, repaired, and shenanigans'd by dozens of engineers from dozens of worlds with dozens of species' tech. By the time John retired, the tug was in better working order than when even Ch'katik had been brought on board.
This new engineer, this Becky, shared John's intuitive understanding of the ship's inner workings, but otherwise she couldn't have been more different. He knew most species mellowed with age, but the contrast in age made the differences all the more stark. She was often abrasive, sarcastic, cynical, and, as another crewmate had put it, "starts the day looking like she was done with everyone's shit a week ago." Ch'katik couldn't imagine John had ever been like her.
And her language! Ch'katik considered himself familiar with most species' profanity, but working under Becky had been a learning experience. She used some of humanity's most offensive words like punctuation, and she wasn't quiet about it unless she was snarking at something.
But he couldn't deny her skill - Ch'katik was fairly certain that for all his experience and talent, Becky was noticeably the better engineer. And while she certainly was rough around the edges, she'd never offended Ch'katik. Colorful language aside, she was one of the more respectful leaders he had worked under. Every other chief engineer he'd known had practically babysat him for the first few weeks, but Becky had simply immediately assumed that he was reliable and knew what he was doing. Ch'katik appreciated that.
And over time, her propensity for swearing had actually become quite useful for Ch'katik. He could now reliably gauge the danger and seriousness of a problem by paying attention to the volume and intensity of her profanity.
Which lead him to the current situation. The ship was under attack by pirates. Or so it had seemed, but from what Ch'katik could gather from the engine room, the pirates were pursuing them even though they'd decoupled from their cargo and were fleeing at best speed.
They were taking fire, and the two of them were were barely keeping up with damage control while she argued with the captain over the intercom.
"It's our only chance! We stay here, we're dead!" the captain urged.
"It's goddamn suicide!" Becky countered, before briefly putting a wrench in her teeth so she could use both hands to fit a replacement power coupling into place as the ship rocked around them. Taking the wrench back in hand, she continued her counterargument. "The drive housing's damaged, we jump without securing it and being fucking dead might end up being preferable! And that's assuming our hull even survives the goddamn jump in the first place!"
She held the wrench out to Ch'katik, who was already reaching for it with one arm and handing her the needed plasma torch with another. Becky was very upset, and by his judgment of her language, the ship was in worse shape than he thought.
Becky immediately set to welding the coupling into place. "I like this ship, cap, but I don't like it well enough to phase half my fucking mass into a random bulkhead!"
With the arms not holding tools, Ch'katik finished up repairing the wiring the coupling had fried when it blew. Listening to the captain and Becky argue, he again thanked the universe that he was working caste. He did not envy these decisions, nor could he even say which option he preferred. Certain immediate death did not seem much better than probable horrible, painful death.
"We're making the jump, Becky! That's an order!"
"FUCK!" Becky exclaimed, punching the bulkhead. Ch'katik winced, but not at the action. Her outburst was a very bad sign.
He didn't need her to tell him to follow her back to the engine room, and so she didn't. A particularly bad hit nearly sent them reeling - having only the two legs, the chief engineer was nearly thrown to the deck. Ch'katik helped her steady herself before they continued on towards their goal.
Becky bee-lined for the main control console, only needing to briefly point to the power distribution console to tell Ch'katik what he needed to do. As beat up as they were, making sure the drive received steady power was paramount. Ensuring it was protected from any surges was equally as important, but if that happened at least no one would be left to complain.
"Spinning the drive up!" Becky announced, and Ch'katik heard the increasing, shuddering whine of the machine preparing to do the impossible. Unfortunately, that might not be metaphorical.
Ch'katik focused on his job. The reactors were stable, which he thanked the stars for. The real trouble was making sure there was uninterrupted power flow from them to the jump drive - at any moment, a shot from the pirates could damage the distribution systems, and if he wasn't fast enough it would cause a power dip and the drive would fail.
"Now or never, captain!" Becky yelled over the steady din of the jump drive.
Ch'katik felt it happen. It was like suddenly going very fast in every direction while someone put his organs in a vice. An instant later, it ceased.
Unfortunately, also an instant later, a loud unpleasant noise rang out and the ship shuddered. The lights flickered and went out, sending them into complete darkness for a moment before the orange emergency lights kicked in.
Ch'katik hesitated. It was quiet. Much too quiet. Nervously, he turned to look at Becky, to gauge the gravity of their situation.
Becky leaned against the console, staring down at the readouts, and let out a quiet sigh. "Ah, beans."
Ch'katik fainted.
Author's note: I first posted this on r/hfy about a year ago, so if it's familiar that's probably where you read it. I figured it was about time I posted some OC to tumblr, so I thought, why not some of the stuff I've written?
